What's the best way to test yarn for pilling?

Saw some yarn yesterday that I LOVED but it looks like it might pill terribly. It's been discontinued, so I want to buy a ball and swatch it right away so that if it's actually good I can buy up a bunch more before it all disappears.

How would I test my swatch for pilling? Just send it through the laundry a bunch of times?
