Hi Gina, I have a poll idea that I'd like to share, so maybe you can make it if you think it'd be interesting!

So I was thinking a "how I joined the fandom" poll (all of these apply to both the band and any of the boys' solo stuff, except ofc the xfactor and larry one), with choices like

• saw them on xfactor

• heard their music on the radio/any streaming app and liked their music

• heard of them from a friend/acquaintance and were curious

• saw their photograph in a newspaper/article etc and found them attractive

• read an article/interview about/with them and they seemed interesting/likable

• saw them in an interview /concert video and they seemed fun people

• saw larry videos and were intrigued/wanted to learn about the theories/ shipped them

• other (please specify in the tags)

It'd basically show what drew fans in: their looks, their music, dynamic, personalities, relationships etc etc.

I'm personally super curious to know everyone's answers so I hope you wouldn't mind doing this Gina! If you can think of any other answers feel free to add to, or rephrase any of the choices!

Hey! I saw you answering that ESNY is not about his father. What is it really about according to you?

I interpret it as a song about the realisation of how things won’t change. In my opinion, it’s about the heartbreaking moment of finding out that some cages are made of gold and it had already been built around him.

It’s about the way homophobia is still very present even when they conceal it under layers of sequins and rainbows.

It’s an old curse.

There are a few recurrent themes that hint it for me:

- the swimming pool: in two ghosts it’s ‘we’re just two ghosts swimming in a glass half empty’; in falling he literally floats in a room full of water; in lights up he dives in the water. golden is a bit more optimistic. There’s water in the mv, but in the song he says he has found an antidote (loving you is the antidote). It’s symbolic for feeling underwater.

- the antidote: the use of this word is interesting to me because in medicine, antidotes are not meds by definition. They just interact with the meds to reduce their actions. Also antidotes are usually used in context of intoxication. They “fight” against the poison. Interesting, because you don’t refer to medications for diseases such as cancer as antidotes. You call it a cure, a therapy, a treatment. He’s not talking about a health disease, he’s not talking about cancer. It still worked in that case though, because it is a song that a posteriori you would read as a sad song for someone you lost. It’s not the type of song I can imagine someone would write a priori for that reason.

-Brooklyn saw me empty at the news: it’s about his first stunt that opened the door to their oh so lovely American careers. It’s clearly about H-a-ylor (that’s why you have the welcome to new york and Dont let it break your heart back to back responses).

It’s probably one of the saddest songs in his discography.

Hi Marte! Because I wasn´t there during that times and because of that massively annoying Blondie´s album re-edition many larries remind others how things were with this stunt, I just found out that funny contrast between photo of the Blondie left alone on the boat while Harry was in the hot tub with many men looking totally heartbroken (irony). It reminded me last year´s last LA show where Harry looked totally off and like he´s just done with everything, 2 days after that show came BUA (and Harry was spotted at Ferrari probably spending his money from this awful stunt like a patch for the horror he had to go through) and then few days later when his latam tour started he was literally glowing!

Anyway my question is - some says Harry was with Louis on that vacay after h*ylor breakup....is that true?

I'm trying to remember the timeline here. I'm pretty sure he was not because it was so short.

Louis flew back from NYC on the 8th of december (with that lion) and the rest of 1d. Harry stayed back to stunt. H and TS went to Virgin Gorda after new years, then broke up, he went to Necker Island for a day or two, went back to Virgin Gorda for a day or two and then went home. Here is a timeline of sorts. Louis was home for christmas and threw a new years party.

Louis looked ecstatic in the pap pics of Harry being back as did Harry, so i'm guessing he weren't there with him.

To the anon saying FL is about C H never said it ARTICILES DID! Before FL came out it was said FL is for his heartbreak over C & how cherry had a VM to H from C. THEN FL came out we found out it wasnt a VM it was C half a convo to someone else C was on the phone with & H just happened to be recording himself strumming the notes of cherry while in the same room odd. Also about townes the media tried to say Carolina is about a small town girl T but the link makes it clear T is not a small town girl. T had major connections T didnt meet H by accident. holy ground: it has remained in my top three on red for almost 8 years and honestly it slaps and deserves more love than it gets. idk how much love it gets now, but it could always use more. it was a great way to start the red tour tbh (yes I know she performed it after state of grace but STILL) and taylor performing it during the lover era sent me into a spiral. because she performed a sw*ftgron song in 2019 and some of y’all can @ me all you want about calling it a sw*ftgron song when it was written about joe jonas ????????? but I have photographic evidence of The Fucking Door With A Joke They’d Made that did not belong to joe jonas and I will never let you forget it

Hello Gina! I’m sorry for asking, I went through tags but I couldn’t find it.

I’m newbie and just going through 1D songs and found Perfect. What I understood besides both HL wrote the lyrics is that it’s supposed to be a stunt song about TS but I also understood larries are making fun of it because Louis is also the author of the lyrics so it’s weird writing a songs for a stunt why HL were together all the time. When searching the tags I found gifs from live performance and both HL are looking at each other with a smirk but I don’t understand the contex.

So I just don’t know what to think about the meaning of the song, of the fact that it involves stunt and also that both HL were writing it.

Hi, darling. Well, it's not really weird. I'm sure the band was told they needed to include some sort of song that could be connected to H*ylor. It's only unusual because HL never wrote together, so it's kind of funny that this is the one song they did do it for. I don't think it says anything about whether HL were dating at the time or not.

As for the smirking, I think you'd have to show me the exact gifs, because the only one I specifically recall is Louis smirking at Harry singing the line "If you like having secret little rendezvous", and I'd just interpret that as Louis likes having secret little rendezvous. LOL!

I think the song is just very much meant to allude to when H was "dating" T*ylor as it drops lots of context clues, especially the bridge Harry sings: "If you like cameras flashing every time we go out/If you want someone to write your breakup songs about". There's not much more to the song, IMO.

Mine was through my daughter, who was 6 when This Is Us came out in 2013. I decided to do some research on this British boyband to see if they were appropriate for kids. 😅 She and I ended up seeing the movie three times, then buying it and watching it at home. She was a Niall girl (she has a thing for blondes… She was very disappointed to learn it was fake). I couldn’t take my eyes off of Harry and was just like, “Who tf is this kid? He’s mesmerizing”.

Researched a little more — most of what I found was about H*ylor and Hendall, so I thought he was straight 🤣 — wound up on Tumblr somehow, and within a day or two had fallen down the rabbit hole of fredddieismyqueen and Larry and haven’t looked back since.

I was on Twitter for some time and i made an online friend. we were very close and we even facetimed a lot. then on my account i tweeted that i didn’t believe louis was a father, AND THEN THE NEXT THING I KNOW IS THAT SHE BLOCKED ME IWNDIEJFOENFIEJD?! i’m pretty sure she’s like a solo harrie now who loves h*ylor and stuff idk. i also remember i was in a group chat with this one person and we were mutuals. then i tweeted something about carolina being about cocaine, and this person unfollowed me. It’s so crazy. In general, I think if someone leaves the fandom and you have lots of things to talk about that don’t revolve around fandom, you can maintain friendships. But it’s very difficult when a friend is shitting on someone or something that’s really important to you.

In regards to the anon about zourry, I came to fandom late in 2016. I actually didn't like Louis and looked for all the signs to prove that he and Harry weren't in a relationship. The first thing that stuck out to me was Zayn and Liam's dynamics and then it became abundantly clear that Louis and Harry were indeed together despite my best efforts to find evidence to the contrary. I believed the narrative around Louis at the time but have to say he's my fav now (don't tell the other boys).

It hurts so much to know how much Louis' shitty image is ingrained in people's mind because of the way he's been portrayed in the media. I also entered the fandom "not liking him". I say that in quotes because I honestly didn't give it much thought, but the first few things I saw about him were the negative stories and I just believed them. Until I looked into it. And honestly it didn't take more than 10 minutes to find loads of posts about how amazing he is.

I'm also laughing at old you trying to prove Larry was fake and failing. LOL! So glad you found your way here. (Glad I did, too! oh my god I could have been a H*ylor truther)

So, i follow like three het harrie accounts on ig bc i like to see what they say and how they react to the stuff that happens related to harry, and today with all this pap pics they're literally making lockscreens of their hands tangled (they aren't even holding hands properly but, well) and putting Taylor swift songs on the stories and saying how much they wish it was them and how good HS3 is going to be bc harry is oh so very happy and in love with Olivia hashahajaha i literally see it and sometimes think they're being sarcastic but, sadly, they're not

this kind of stuff is what makes me wonder how will all this people react to him being with L, you know? i laugh about it but deep down i think it's awful to imagine this people throwing homophobic comments towards h bc he isn't what they made up in their heads (fed by Harry's team ofc)

stunts are so fucked up but i think rn I've learned to let it pass and laugh about how ridiculous they are.

Hi sweetheart. Yeah... a lot of those het harries are straight up gross and say they would unstan if they found out he was gay. But I think by the time he does come out it really won't matter one bit (certainly not to him, but I don't think it will make any dent in his fan base over the long run). The way they hold on to the idea of H*ylor is so tragic. He literally looked so sad the whole time. It's like they don't see him at all, just the fantasy they have of him.

Wait if people are sharing orgin stories I would love to share mine. I first found out about larry back in early 2012. I was watching 1D videos on YouTube and then youtube recommend me a "Louis and Harry favorite moments" video. I at the time had only ever watched 1D funny moments/interviews so don't know how a larry video was recommend to me [YouTube knew I was meant to be a larrie.] I thought this video would be another 1D type funny moments video [just of L&H only] but come to find out it was insinuating L&H are together. So that evening I kept watching a ton of larry proof videos in the recommend side bar and by 3AM I was a major larry shipper. I became a full larrie [like I knew for a fact they were together in love] after the haylor fiasco that happened later that year. The NY kiss, the I loved you first interview, the Louis hating talking about haylor, and the I'm happy their good friends if that interview made it was so obvious. I never looked back after that and have been a larrie every since.

Ugh. The I loved you first video. Pain. I love how H*ylor turned you into a Larrie. 🤣🤣🤣
