📽 NIGHTMARE ALLEY 📽 Blockbuster TobiView ▪️ Guillermo del Toros neuer Film entführt uns in die Zeit Ende der 1930er/Anfang der 1940er Jahre und thematisiert zu Beginn die zu dieser Zeit viel durch die USA ziehenden Wanderzirkusse mit ihren Gauklern, Kuriositäten und Hellsehern. ▪️ Mit einem bis in kleine Nebenrollen sehr namhaften Cast (Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, Toni Collette, Ron Perlman u. a.) wird ein düsteres Thriller-Drama erzählt, in dem sich dunkel gehaltenen Bilder ungefähr ab der Filmmitte mit glamourösen Einstellungen abwechseln. Das Produktionsdesign, die Ausstattung und die Kostüme vermitteln sehr gut das Gefühl, sich in der Zeit rund um den Ausbruch des zweiten Weltkrieges zu befinden. Das Kriegsthema wird zwar ein paar wenige Male kurz angerissen, aber nimmt keinerlei Einfluss auf die Geschichte selbst. ▪️ Die überzeugende Story selbst ist eine Neuverfilmung des gleichnamigen Romans von William Lindsay Gresham, der 1947 bereits verfilmt wurde und im deutschen unter dem Titel “Der Scharlatan“ veröffentlicht wurde. ▪️ Die Inszenierung gefiel mir gut und der Film ist einnehmende. Die Laufzeit sprengt allerdings in meinen Augen etwas den Rahmen. Eine etwas knackigere Erzählstruktur hätten dem Film vielleicht sogar gutgetan. Bei 151 Min. sind gewisse Längen kaum vermeidbar, aber auf der anderen Seite hält der Streifen den Zuschauer permanent bei der Stange. Man stellt sich unweigerlich immer wieder die Frage, in welche Richtung der Film steuert. ▪️ NIGHTMARE ALLEY ist eine wunderbar erzählte düstere Geschichte über menschliche Abgründe, Manipulation, fehlgeleitetes Vertrauen und dem typisch amerikanischen Traum vom raketenhaften Aufstieg und dem damit verbundenem noch tieferem Fall. Director: Wes Anderson Writer: Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola Three brothers reunite for a train trip in India. After my disappointment with the Royal Tenenbaums, I was a little nervous to watch another Wes Anderson film, especially one that most people have barely even heard of. However, Anderson reminded me of why he's one of my favorite directors of all time. His quirky style worked for the comedic timing perfectly, with bizarre characters that made the weak story more enjoyable. The movie did drag out a bit, but it was still entertaining nonetheless. Anderson's signature slow motion scenes were more effective in this than they have been in any of his previous movies. The performances were good from all cast members, & it left me wanting to see more big roles for Schwartzman in the future. It may not have been necessarily one of my favorites of Anderson, but it definitely is still a really well-made film worth seeing.  The acting is once again top-notch here from Brody, Wilson, and Schwartzman, and Anderson's use of music is again incredibly fitting and beautiful while also being perhaps less frequent and distracting than his other films, allowing less room for accusations detractors frequently make that Anderson is nothing more than a glorified music video director. Also this movie uses various Satyajit Ray compositions in an acknowledgment of one of his cinematic idols and main inspirations, not only for this film but in general.  ¨The Darjeeling Limited¨ is a rich, complex, detailed, and gorgeous film which is a unique and fascinating look at some familiar thematic material recurrent in Anderson's work. It's not a perfect film, but it's definitely one of the best films of Wes Anderson. Taika Waititi fungiert bei dieser Dramödie oder nennen wir es satirisches Drama als Autor und Regisseur. Seine Adaption landete bereits 2012 auf der Liste der besten unverfilmten Ideen Hollywoods. Sehen konnte ich diesen für sechs Oscars und zahlreiche weitere Preise nominierten und bereits ausgezeichneten Film heute am 28.01.2020.

Inhalt: Der Junge “JoJo” wächst in der Obhut seiner alleinerziehenden Mutter während des 2. Weltkriegs auf. Er versucht, den zunehmenden Faschismus um sich herum zu verstehen, ist Anwärter der Hitlerjugend und erschafft sich als Stütze einen imaginären Freund - Adolf Hitler. Als er herausfindet, dass seine Mutter das jüdisches Mädchen Elsa auf dem Dachboden versteckt hält, muss JoJo seinen fanatischen Antisemitismus und seine Ideologie hinterfragen.

Im Film erleben wir bekannte Darsteller wie z. B. Scarlett Johansson als Rosie Betzler, Sam Rockwell als Hauptmann Klenzendorf, Rebel Wilson als Fräulein Rahm, sowie Alfie Allen als Finkel. Allen voran begeistern aber der 12jährige Newcomer Roman Griffin Davis als Johannes “JoJo” Betzler und Thomasin McKenzie als Elsa. Neben seinen Aufgaben hinter der Kamera übernahm Taika Waititi die Rolle als (imaginärer) Adolf Hitler.

Trotz des ernsten Hintergrundes sehen wir einen Film der lustig, herzlich und menschlich ist. Neben satirischen Szenen mit komödiantischen Zügen wird das gezeigte im Laufe des Filmes zunehmend ernster und emotionaler. Nach locker heiterem Anfang zieht es einem zu einem gewissen Zeitpunkt emotional quasi den Boden unter den Füßen weg. Der Zuschauer wird aber mit einem wohligen Gefühl mit dem Ausgang des Filmes zufrieden sein. Definitiv empfehlenswert!
