One of BLM early works.
One of BLM early works.
I completely agree with Murphy, that is no reason for an arrest. However CNN & Snopes both confirmed Freddie Gray had a rap sheet of 20 criminal court cases, the majority involved selling illegal substances. Selling drugs, suspected of being a street-level drug dealer, who was most likely violating his probation and then resisted officer’s instructions and then arrest, should be enough to interact with Gray.
AGAIN! Something weird happened in the back of that van. I truly believe the officers were “grossly negligent” and Gray should be healthy and living out his life behind bars. If we can find common ground on that AND that the violence that took place after his death was wrong, THEN we can have a productive conversation on the events.
I always found it interesting that this was turned into a racial, political movement. The majority of the 6 officers were minorities, did their lives matter?
 Direct Quotes:
Mobile phone video from a bystander shows Gray's arrest on 12 April around 08:40 local time (13:40 BST), on Presbury Street in the Sandtown neighbourhood of the city.
Billy Murphy, a lawyer hired by the Gray family agrees. "Running while black is not probable cause," he said.
Ms Mosby called the stop "grossly negligent". She said that Gray had asked for medical help and complained of trouble breathing.
Officer Miller's document says that Gray "suffered a medical emergency" while he was being transported and that he was "immediately transported to Shock Trauma via medic".
He arrived in a critical condition.
Briefing the media on the results of an autopsy on Monday, Deputy Commissioner Jerry Rodriguez said Gray "did suffer a very tragic injury to his spinal cord which resulted in his death". Mr Murphy said that Gray's "spine was 80% severed at his neck".
Demonstrators have taken to the streets to protest against excessive use of force. In early days, most of the protests were calm.
On 27 April, a funeral service for Gray was held. That afternoon and evening rioters tore through parts of Baltimore leaving a path of debris, burnt or smashed cars, and looted storefronts. The National Guard was dispatched in an attempt to restore control and the mayor ordered a curfew between the hours of 2200 and 0500.

@bisabutler 🔥 If We Must Die an excerpt from the poem by Claude McKay 1889-1948 If we must die, let it not be like hogs Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot, While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs, Making their mock at our accursèd lot. If we must die, O let us nobly die, So that our precious blood may not be shed In vain; then even the monsters we defy Shall be constrained to honor us though dead! In honor of the Black people who have been unjustly slain. #breonnataylor #ahmaudarbery #georgefloyd #michaelbrown #tonymcdade #sandrabland #shukriabdi #ericgarner #freddiegray Zouave, 2020 **there is no paint on this artwork* The Zouaves were of the most decorated units of the French army who came from north, west and East African French colonies. The Zouaves were used on the front lines of WWI and suffered heavy casualties in France while still being under colonial oppression at home. This was inspired by photo of a likely Senegalese soldier in Paris in 1915 Cotton, silk, wool and velvet, quilted and appliquéd, 54” x 88” Private collection *the fabric on his pants is called Kofi Annan’s Brain after the former and late UN Secretary General known for his brilliance. #SupportBlackArt #BisaButler https://www.instagram.com/p/CBTPrTHh1AX/?igshid=vh3743fotj1b

"What are you following me for?” Trayvon Benjamin Martin (February 5, 1995 – February 26, 2012) was a 17-year-old African American from Miami Gardens, Florida, who was fatally shot in Sanford, Florida by George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old Hispanic American. Martin had gone with his father on a visit to his father's fiancée at her townhouse at The Retreat at Twin Lakes in Sanford. On the evening of February 26, Martin was walking back to the fiancée's house from a nearby convenience store. Zimmerman, a member of the community watch, saw Martin and reported him to the Sanford Police as suspicious. While on the call to police, Zimmerman began following Martin. Several minutes later, there was an altercation and Zimmerman fatally shot Martin in the chest Following Martin's death, rallies, marches and protests were held across the nation. In March 2012, hundreds of students at his high school held a walkout in support of him. An online petition calling for a full investigation and prosecution of Zimmerman garnered 2.2 million signatures. A national debate about racial profiling and 'stand your ground' laws ensued. The governor of Florida appointed a task force to examine the state's self-defense laws. Martin's life was scrutinized by the media and bloggers. The name Trayvon was tweeted more than two million times in the 30 days following the shooting. More than 1,000 people attended the viewing of his remains the day before his funeral, which was held on March 3, 2012 in Miami, Florida. He was buried in Dade-Memorial Park (North), in Miami. A memorial was dedicated to Martin at the Goldsboro Westside Historical Museum. . . . . . . . . . . #trayvonmartin #blacklivesmatter #sandrabland #ericgarner #georgefloyd #breonnataylor #tamirrice #ahmaudarbery #philandocastile #altonsterling #mikebrown #freddiegray #michaelbrown #amadoudiallo #blm #stephonclark #walterscott #nojusticenopeace #oscargrant #atatianajefferson #bothamjean #icantbreathe #black #antwonrose #sayhername #korryngaines #seanbell #aiyanajones #joke_300 #sayhisname https://www.instagram.com/p/CK_nawbDCWD/?igshid=155cp1gh05fvv

It’s difficult for me to put words into how I’m feeling, but I have a duty/obligation to use my platform and voice. I don’t have the answer, nor do I feel the most educated on the subject, but I do know I can be a part of the catalyst that sparks more awareness and attention to this conversation. 👊🏿👊🏾👊🏽👊🏼 - Below is a caption I’ve seen others posts that I feel connected with as well as a short guide for safely protesting. - I have privilege because I can do all of these things without thinking twice: I can go birding (#ChristianCooper) I can go jogging (#AmaudArbery) I can relax in the comfort of my own home (#BothemSean and #AtatianaJefferson and #BreonnaTaylor) I can ask for help after being in a car crash (#JonathanFerrell and #RenishaMcBride) I can have a cellphone (StephonClark) I can leave a party to get to safety (JordanEdwards) I can play loud music (JordanDavis) I can sell CDs (AltonSterling) I can sleep (AiyanaJones) I can walk from the corner store (MikeBrown) I can play cops and robbers (TamirRice) I can go to church (Charleston9) I can walk home with Skittles (TrayvonMartin) I can hold a hair brush while leaving my own bachelor party (SeanBell) I can party on New Years (OscarGrant) I can get a normal traffic ticket (SandraBland) I can lawfully carry a weapon (PhilandoCastile) I can break down on a public road with car problems (CoreyJones) I can shop at Walmart (JohnCrawford) I can have a disabled vehicle (TerrenceCrutcher) I can read a book in my own car (KeithScott) I can be a 10yr old walking with our grandfather (#CliffordGlover) I can decorate for a party (#ClaudeReese) I can ask a cop a question (#RandyEvans) I can cash a check in peace (#YvonneSmallwood) I can take out my wallet (#AmadouDiallo) I can run (#WalterScott) I can breathe (#EricGarner) I can live (#FreddieGray) I CAN BE ARRESTED WITHOUT THE FEAR OF BEING MURDERED (#GeorgeFloyd) White and white passing privilege is real. Freddie Gray should be celebrating his 33rd birthday today. Terence Crutcher should be celebrating his 46th birthday today. Their lives matter, and they deserved to grow old.

Day 10, in Minneapolis A city mourned the murder of George Floyd (say his name), prayer and reflection, tears and profound sadness. Mostly peaceful protests WORLDWIDE, because this is about more than a singular government sanctioned murder. Disappointment reigns supreme as true colors are displayed like a peacock's tail with all the colors of the rainbow. The silence of some seems complicit while the comments of others is profoundly surprising! The truth shall set you free they say......when someone shows their true colors give them a coloring book not your time. Cutting them loose can be cathartic; An experience becoming prevalent.
There are those that want this outrage to go away, why do they have to post so much, we know, this is just an example of a small percentage of officers, it doesn't apply to me, it's not all of us; even though the world watched as an American citizen cried for his mother while he took his last breath. Is this your definition of greatness? For some, greatness is a relative term, but isn't that privilege?
We are being challenged as humans to GET out of our comfort zones and fix this travesty of justice . If peaceful protests make you uncomfortable, you won't wear NIKE, you protest the NFL and vilify a player, if comments made during precious award ceremonies disturbed you, if you RAGED at Beyonce's words and can't understand why people need to remind the country that black lives matter too, perhaps you are on the wrong side of history and really don't care about your black, brown and tan friends. [ clearly the notion of peaceful protest is just a charade ]
Crucial conversations are starting, they are not easy, yet eye opening. A commonality of purpose and humanity is the theme. We must not forget, we must not become complacent, things must change. Stay in power and protest!
