Today in Great Lakes shipping history. June 20th.
Seaway Queen nears completion in 1959.

1959: On June 20, 1959, the SEAWAY QUEEN began her maiden voyage. The vessel was appropriately named, as at the time she was the largest Canadian vessel on the Great Lakes, the 2nd largest on the Great Lakes overall (behind the EDMUND FITZGERALD), and she entered service the same week that Queen Elizabeth II and President Dwight D. Eisenhower formally dedicated the St. Lawrence Seaway. She was one of the more popular and classic looking vessels on the Great Lakes.

Caught a Great Lakes freighter unloading stone at Zilwaukee Michigan today.

This is located on the Saginaw River. I’ve been to this boat launch park many times but never saw one of these. It is very huge.

That is a tugboat nestled in at the rear. The tug is the one who has the tall tower. The ship has left and I’m waiting to see if they will get it turned around before I have to leave. Edit: I did not see the ship as it left. Also, it you look on the big white platform you can see a man up there. Yeah, this was huge!!

Went out with some of the roommates as one last hurrah before summer hits in full swing and takes everyone in different directions in life.
I'm the oldest of the group, and they all just graduated and I'm a semester behind. It's been a bit rough for me, emotionally. But it'll be okay.
I start my full-time summer co-op gig tomorrow and I meal prepped a bit for it (just lunches while I'm at work). It was nice, I would've cooked a bit more if it weren't already late and I need to readjust to waking up early.
Enjoy your summer, everyone! Mine will be filled with machinery and florescent lights.

Finally unlocked enough of the freighter base building tiles yesterday to begin revamping mine seriously instead of just fooling around testing out how the tiles fit together. So did another delete-everything-I-could-manually followed by a reset, and then rebuilt it all again.
Just back of the flight deck I eliminated the hallway completely and instead have it open up directly into a 3x2 room where I have the planetary scanner, teleport ring, short range teleports to further into the base, and a save point that’s in line of sight as soon as you come through the ring, so I remember it give it a tap. Short of plonking it directly in front of the archway into the flight deck, this gives me the fewest footsteps to the planetary scanner when I’m doing fast exploration as described in a previous post.
Beyond that is a single corridor tile with a ladder up, to a single tile corridor running side-to-side between a storage area (port) and a planting area (starboard). They’re colour coded and have matching short range teleporters down to the first room so that I don’t need to use the ladder. There’s also a universal trade terminal right at the storage room end of the hallway, for easy selling of harvested materials or excess stuff drawn out of storage. Did try out the storage area as a single massive room of storage pods, but then decided I preferred the arrangement I previously had of a ring of connected storage rooms wrapping around a central storage area built of the older tile set.
Going back down to flight deck level, in back of the ladder corridor is the fleet command area, which is another 3x2 tile room, the outer four of which are fleet command stations; I can add additional tiles to either side of that if I hit a point where I want to send out more than 4 expeditions at a time.
Back of that is a single tile corridor, and then a cross corridor with another ladder at the junction (that ladder will lead to a crew quarters area eventually, right now it’s just a dead end). In line with the front-to-back corridor is my construction overseer’s office. A couple tiles to port is the armourer, and then a couple beyond that is a 3x3 area for my mechanic, four stellar extractor cores, and a large refiner. Going starboard from the overseer is a 3x3 room for my scientist and examples of all the glitch items plus some other thematic decor (creepy decorative items from the scrap metal dealer). There are short range teleports to the mechanical and science area.

1961: CANADOC sailed on her maiden voyage.
2023: Making her second arrival to the Zenith City, Viking Polaris stuns beneath the bridge at blue hour.
2023: The peaceful water makes Polaris look like she’s gliding on ice.
2023: Polaris passes the 1000 footer Indiana Harbor in the evening glow while outbound for Thunder Bay, ON. She’ll be back this fall for one last trip in 2023

The captain's quarters area on my freighter. It's not terribly large; there's a single tile hallway from the expedition control room, then a 2x2 room that's been split into two 2x1 spaces with a wall and airlock.
The space directly off the hallway has been set up as a living/office area. The next space is a bedroom area. And then there's an airlock leading to an exterior wrap-around balcony, which runs right up to the underside of the starboard stairs.
In that final image you can see the exterior of the greenhouse/kitchen area that's perched up on top.
