Frederick Robert Williamson (born March 5, 1938), known as The Hammer, is an actor and former defensive back who played mainly in the AFL during the 1960s. He is known for his film career, starring as Tommy Gibbs in the film Black Caesar and its sequel Hell Up in Harlem. He had other notable roles in other films such as Hammer, That Man Bolt, and Three the Hard Way.

Born in Gary, he was the oldest child born to Frank, a welder, and Lydia Williamson. Williamson attended Froebel High School, where he ran track and played football. He graduated in 1956. He left Gary to attend Northwestern University on a football scholarship. After playing college football for Northwestern in the late 1950s, he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers. When during training camp he was switched to their defense, his attitude over the switch prompted him to play his position with too much aggression, and the coach of the 49ers asked him to quit “hammering” his players. Thus, “The Hammer” quickly stuck and became his nickname.

He acted in films such as Three the Hard Way (1974), Take a Hard Ride (1975), One Down, Two to Go (1982), Original Gangstas (1996), and On the Edge (2002). In October 1973, he posed nude for Playgirl magazine. His early television roles included a role in the original Star Trek episode “The Cloud Minders” (1969), in which he played Anka. He played Diahann Carroll’s love interest in Julia.

He has had another career as a director and producer. His first film as a producer was Boss Nigger (1975), in which he starred. His second film as a producer was with Mean Johnny Barrows (1976). He has since directed over 20 features. He relocated to Rome and formed his own company Po’ Boy Productions, which started to produce actioners including Adios Amigo (1976) and Death Journey (1976).

He has been married twice. His first marriage was to Ginette Lavonda (1960-1967). He married Linda Williamson (1988). He has at least three children. He has black belts in Kenpō, Shotokan karate, and taekwondo. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Last week I was looking up natural insect repellents and most websites said diluted mint oil would work so I ordered some. When it came, I googled for recipes and the top results, which never appeared before, said it didn't actually work 😒

On Monday I looked at lots of simple tutorials for Froebel stars so I ordered a kit that would let me make 25 for recyclable present toppers and tree ornaments. But now I have the strips, I can't find a tutorial that makes sense so I'm really struggling to make them properly 😣

I need to stop buying stuff and learn that even when I research products beforehand, it doesn't mean I won't get buyer's remorse...

3D Paper Snowflake - The 6 point monster in bottom center. I glued anywhere it’s stapled instead. Also for the center instead of stacking all of them, stack three points then stack the other three and put them on top of each other crossways like >< if that makes sense, instead of having them all one way like > I made mine out of 4″ square paper.

Kusudama Flower Ball - Upper left corner, half of one and 3 more flowers, 3 to go before I’m done. These take A WHILE. I have also made ones out of slightly larger paper and left them at half for a table top decoration. This one is made with 3″ square paper.

Swedish/Woven Christmas Star - Upper right- made with the same 6″ x 1/2″ strips as shown in the video. If you make this out of fairly stiff paper it makes a nice tree topper. There are other variations with more strips/weaving.

Froebel Star- Top middle. I linked this particular video because this takes fairly long strips of paper and she shows how to glue shorter strips together if your paper isn’t long enough. I used the same strips as with the woven star, glued together so they’re 12″ x 1/2″

3D Paper Stars-  Bottom right & center right. I did these in both 3″ and 4″ squares. They’re kind of weird to stick together in the end, it’s like you’re gluing empty space, but somehow it works?

Paper Dahlia- Bottom left. I used 2″ squares, didn’t count exactly how many because I had to make more. Maybe 50? I think I’d like to leave this one with just a couple outer rows next time and open in the center like a wreath, or maybe put some greenery in the center or something.

Another 3D Paper Snowflake- center, both 3″ and 4″ square paper.

Origami Diamond- center left. Easy as heck to fold, kind of tricky to glue together. Thicker paper would make this dead easy.

Note- I used Alieene’s Tacky Glue with paperclips to  hold things in place until they dried on all of these. Hot glue can be  handy too, especially doing the final assembly of the kusudama, but I am  lazy and didn’t feel like getting mine out. 

Also amusing, I’ve crafted my way through The Magician’s Nephew (which will never be the first book to me.) and am now starting into The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Part of the cover was the base for the dahlia.

Frederick Robert Williamson (born March 5, 1938), known as The Hammer, is an actor and former defensive back who played mainly in the AFL during the 1960s. Williamson attended Froebel High School, where he ran track and played football. He graduated in 1956. After high school, he left Gary to attend Northwestern University on a football scholarship. After playing college football for Northwestern in the late 1950s, he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers. When during training camp he was switched to their defense, his attitude over the switch prompted him to play his position with too much aggression, and the coach of the 49ers asked him to quit "hammering" his players. Thus, "The Hammer" quickly stuck and became his nickname. He acted in films such as Three the Hard Way (1974), Take a Hard Ride (1975), One Down, Two to Go (1982), Original Gangstas (1996), and On the Edge (2002). In October 1973, he posed nude for Playgirl magazine. His early television roles included a role in the original Star Trek episode "The Cloud Minders" (1969), in which he played Anka.
