Wir laufen durch das verrückte Heckenlabyrinth und suchen dabei auch nach geheimen Verstecken, nach verborgenen Bereichen des Levels. Man muss sich nicht nur genau umschauen, sondern die unterschiedlichen Fähigkeiten der Helden kombinieren, die Pfeile und Seile der Diebin, die magische Kiste und Levitation des Magiers, sowie das Schwert und den lichtstrahlreflektierenden Schild des Ritters. Nur in guter Kombination lässt sich das Level bewältigen.

What's cooking

I still read tumblr (on my unhinged reblog-account than my Very Official this account) but I'm much more active on Bluesky where I even occasionally talk about work, whereas my creative hobbies are getting archived on pixelfed.social

As for news, big and small, I was hit by the terrible Situation of video games, and was furloughed (kind of like laid off, with option to return) from my position as Game Director and Lead Writer at Frozenbyte last year.

However, I got an opportunity at the same time to do an amazing little VR project for a Finnish museum of all places! They wanted someone to write them a screenplay for an edutainment game set in the early 1900s and it just so happens I read a ton of non-fiction books on the subject two years ago, because it's one of my eras of particular interest in Finnish history. I was the best (and probably only) fit in the whole country for the job! The game should be out later this year (for all those teens excited to learn about life in 1906 as a teenager.)

It's my last days on it, and then I go into the big unknown. A lot of Finnish video game makers are unemployed, it's all a bit scary and frustrating at the moment, but can't do much about it. I have a lot of short courses lined up for myself, I'm doing an Open University project with a UOAS about virtual nature digital products with mental health benefits, a four-day course on interactive fiction at the Adult Education Institute, and a number of shorter one-day courses on careers, leadership, etc. with my union (I get hundreds of courses with them every year but I usually don't have the time to join them normally.)

To keep myself going on mentally, I've started taking up traditional art after two decades of a break from drawing and painting, not because I'm terribly good at it, but because the doing of these things with my hands is very good for my soul.

It looks like it's going to be a while until my name is shown on the end credits roll. I do want to continue working with games and storytelling, even though it absolutely feels like an uphill battle right now.

Somehow, things will get better, eventually.
