A thing about the interpretations of Fedya’s character I’ll truly never get over.
Tumblr media
In the 1991 adaptation of «Князь Серебряный» we see this little silly hyper queer dude. By ‘hyper queer’ I mean it, like, that’s really a lot for the general Russian public even nowadays
He’s kinda too feminine for those times & is not secret about that at all, even getting dissed by other characters for that (bruh 😭 you guys are just petty and jealous)
And then. Then we have this Soviet gigachad
Tumblr media
He’s a warrior. An oprichnick, a professional assassin with no mercy, one of the many of Ivan’s loyal hounds
One would not easily call this interpretation openly queer, but just you look at those heart emoji eyes, when he sees Ivan irl
Tumblr media
And their relationship in general just feels more… Genuine. Not too much, not too little, it just hits REALLY different and oh boy, do I love that

Гости въехали к боярам во дворы!
Did I really make this meme just for myself? Yes, yes I did. Have I actually watched this video everyday for the past 2 months? Yes, yes I have. Am I learning Russian just because of this movie? Да- да, я такой.

Man, I think Fyodor Basmanov in the Russian artist Phobs' artwork looks like Mozenrath. And the vibe is the same, and the characters are similar, it seems to me.
Artist: Phobs ( Anastasia Kim from publishing house "Bubble")

so these are ivan the terrible and fyodor basmanov (the actors from the 1991 version)
I really didn't want to find this likeness but I couldn't help it
robert de niro and ralph macchio in cuba and his teddy bear 1986:

they would have been perfect at the time for a remake of ivan the terrible... the "toxic" relationship, the physical resemblance, female ralph, robert so perfect with that hair and beard…. it's like I've been robbed

Collage of fragments of different films. Conrad Veidt as Ivan the Terrible in the "Das Wachsfigurenkabinett" (1924) directed by Paul Leni, and Mikhail Kuznetsov as Fyodor Basmanov, oprichnik, in the film "Ivan the Terrible" / "Иван Грозный" (1944) directed by Sergei Eisenstein. In my opinion, they look really cool together.

Sergei Eisenstein (with all the soviet passion) scolded German film expressionism, however, in "Ivan the Terrible" he tried to match the methods of directors of the Weimar era and even looked for an actor for the role of Basmanov, most likely on the young Conrad, who was the personification of expressionism in 1920.

bisexual goals: back in 16c tzar Ivan the Terrible ruled in Russia and he had personal guards called oprichniks and there was this one named Fyodor Basmanov and apparently they fucked so loudly that one of the other oprichniks, a German mercenary named Heinrich von Staden, mentioned that in his memoirs
and now almost 500 years later people make crack edits about them
