DP x DC: The Most Dangerous Card Game

Ok so Danny has essentially claimed earth as his. And he is fully aware that there are constant threats to the planet. Now he can’t stop a threat that originates on earth (that’s something he’ll leave to the Justice league) but he can do something about outside threats. Doing some research on ancient spells, rituals, and artifacts, he cast a world wide barrier on the planet to protect it from hostile threats so they cannot enter. This will prevent another Pariah Dark incident. However, barriers like this come at a price. You see, there are two ways to make a barrier. Either make one powered up by your own energy and power (which would be constantly draining) or set up a barrier with rules. The way magic works is that nothing can be absolutely indestructible. It must have a weakness. The most powerful barriers weren’t the ones reinforced with layer after layer of protective charms and buffed up with power. Those could eventually be destroyed either by being overpowered, wearing them down, or by cutting off the original power source. No, the most powerful barriers were the ones with a deliberate weakness. A barrier indestructible except for one spot. A cage that can only be opened from the outside. Or that can only be passed with a key or by solving a riddle. So Danny chooses this type of barrier and does the necessary ritual and pours in enough power to make it. And he adds his condition for anyone to enter. 

Now the Justice league? Find out about the barrier when Trigon attempts to attack, they were preparing after he threatened what he would do once he got to earth. How he would destroy them. The Justice league tried to take the fight to him first but were utterly destroyed, so they retreated home to tend to their injuries, and fortify earth for one. Last. Stand. Only when Trigon makes his big entrance…he’s stopped.

The Justice league watch in awe as this thin see-through barrier with beautiful green swirls and speckled white lights like stars apears blocking Trigon and his army’s advance. The barrier looks so thin and fragile yet no matter how hard the warlord hits, none of his attacks can get through and neither can he damage said barrier. That’s when Constantine and Zatanna recognizes what this barrier is. Something only a powerful entity could create. For a moment, the league is filled with hope that Trigon can’t get through yet Constantine also explains that it’s not impenetrable. And clearly Trigon knows this too for he calls out a challenge. 

And that’s when, in a flash of light, a tiny glowing teenager appears. He looked absolutly minuscule compared to Trigon and yet practically glowed with power (this isn’t a King Danny AU though).

And that is when the conditions for passing the barrier are revealed. And the Justice realize that the only thing stopping Trigon and his army from decimating earth. The only way he can get through….is by beating this glowing teenager in a card game. 

Not just any card game though. The most convoluted game Sam, Danny, and Tucker invented themselves. It’s like the infinite realms version of magic the gathering, combined with Pokémon, and chess. And Danny is the master. So sit down Trigon and let’s play.

After Danny wins, this happens a few more times with outer word beings and possibly even demons attempting to invade earth, yet none have been able to beat the mysterious teenager in a card game. Constantine might even take a crack at it and try to figure out how to play. He’s really bad though. Every time this happens, the Justice league worry that this might be the time the teenager looses. Yet every time, he wins (even if only barely). 

Meanwhile, Danny, Sam, and Tucker have gotten addicted to the game and play it almost daily. Some teachers might seem them playing the game are are like ‘awww how cute’ not realizing this game is literally saving the world. Jazz is just happy they aren’t spending as much time on their screens playing Doomed.

Gabi finds herself nodding along. Just like that, they were formulating a plan together— a cohesive unit. If only Selene could see them now. Surely this was innocent, though, this little venture? Surely it was innocent the way she watches the curve of his adam's apple rise and fall when he talks? Observes the contrast of his shirt collar against the golden of column his throat? It was so perfect— so smooth, and unmarked, that pretty tan, so perfect for her to—

—There's the clink of his shot glass being set on the counter, the rattle of hers following.

At least Gabi can blame her pink cheeks on the alcohol. She rocks forward a half-step playfully.

"Don't leave me behind."

Though, Gabi has never been some wilting flower— she's not afraid to raise her elbows into an offensive position as she and Matty begin to dive into the fray.

It's hardly a stroll in the park.

Everyone is in various stages of undress. Some are coiled around a partner, lips locked, others are dancing freely, limbs outstretched like flowers reaching for the sun.

A stray arm strikes out erratically; a cup is attached to the a hand, and Gabi reaches out to block it automatically before it tips over and spills the contents onto Matty's perfect head!

Her eyebrows raise incredulously, an unspoken 'did you see that?'

Perhaps the jungle juice was giving her magic powers. Incredible reflexes, or something, to protect this handsome man.

"So what is this party for?" Gabi picks around a stray heel on the floor. It's companion is kicked off and thrown into her path, causing her to stumble minutely, place her hand against the column of his spine. Oops. Just for a second. One brief, warm second. "Because you've managed to pull off a replica Coachella in here."

Workshopping names with Gabi sounded like an activity he'd very much like to participate in. He'd do it all night, if he had to.

Matty watched as she tilted the shot glass back. God. She was hot. She was perfect. He followed suit, swallowing his own shot with ease. It felt nice and warm and he knew it wouldn't be long before he felt that, too.

He felt her hand brush against his arm. It was fucking electric and the little bit of encouragement that Matty needed. She was likely feeling the same. He couldn't hide his smile, nor the amusement in his eyes.

He followed Gabi's gaze to one of his plants -- all the way across the living room. There were dozens of people standing in their way.

"Well. We better be careful, then. You know, stick together, secure the scene…"

He placed his shot glass on the counter.

"Stay close to me. I don't want to lose you."

...I got a little lost in the weeds thinking about the time between Ming Yi's ascension and his death, and decided that this is my favourite possible scenario (think Lord Vetinari and Leonard de Quirm).

Is Ming Yi a prisoner? technically yes. Does he have any interest in leaving? not in the slightest, he is fed, gets given any of the tools or materials he wants, and gets work on his own projects without any interruptions except for the occasional conversation with He Xuan! it's like the ideal possible retirement after living a VERY busy mortal life!

I think what bothers me about Beastars season 3 is how it's almost scared to have its characters fuck up...?

I'm mostly thinking about the scene where Melon and Legoshi meet. In the anime Legoshi catches up to him and is then shot by Melon because Yahya didn't make it in time. But in the manga Legoshi and Yahya do catch and manage to cuff him. But when Yahya leaves to call for backup, Melon and Legoshi start to talk and Legoshi lets him go. And THEN he gets shot with his own gun. It's a good way to establish Melon as a very manipulative, clever and remorseless character but also shows an interesting dynamic: Legoshi sees his mother in Melon. He sees his future child in Melon. And because of that he HAS to save Melon. Because he won't be able to live with himself if he can't.

But I think the anime cut that because they were worried people would go "why did Legoshi let Melon go is he stupid?" and they wanted to keep Legoshi's uwu pure wolf boy can do no wrong image he had going for him. Anyway. More proof that show writers should not be allowed to have twitter.

thinking about post-game ammabel and heinrix lately (haven't been able to really play and pretty much on the cusp of the final act)

and I was thinking yesterday about how terrifying master of whispers heinrix would be for anyone who *isn't* ammabel

he's former inquisition (and how the fuck do you even become former inquisition). he's extra paranoid about inquisition agents and the risk that they'd seek to endanger ammabel to get to him. he's already commented (in his ambient dialogue on dargonus) on how unguarded her nobility are, saying things that he could easily construe into a heresy charge. he'd have an enormous network of spies and operatives reporting to him on every minor comment or action.

and - most of all - he's completely and utterly devoted to ammabel. he's exchanged his devotion to the imperium with that to her.

he really does become her bloodhound, sniffing out any possible (even vaguely possible) conspiracy to her or her dynasty. rip to the dynasty's subjects.

Buck takes a step towards Eddie, twigs snapping beneath his boots, and his voice is low when he responds. “Do you have any idea how fucking incredible you look right now?” Eddie flushes and takes a step back, stumbling a little on the roots of the tree. “Buck, what are you -?” Buck walks Eddie backwards until his back is flush against the tree and grabs both his wrists, pinning them above his head. He presses himself flush against Eddie’s body so they’re forehead to forehead, chest to chest, thigh to thigh. He’s pretty confident Eddie can feel his growing erection as he presses himself against Eddie’s sharp hipbone. “You’ve been looking so hot, so edible this entire time. I will admit, I was a little sad when you didn’t join me for any of the competitions but then you sat down on that bench and all I could see were those perfect thighs of yours. i was thinking about that ask i received the other day and how uncharacteristically upset the topic had made me when i usually just think "mh. gross!" and move on, and after mulling it over a while i realized it wasn't about the topic at all, it was the ask itself that freaked me out. i've mentioned sporadically before (for obvious reasons lol) that i used to be involved in fandom discourse when i was younger and that!! fucked me up quite a lot. between exacerbating my ocd and straight up getting cyber stalked (i almost feel guilty using that word, like i don't deserve it but. yeah that is 100% what happened to me), the topic is something I have very complex and personal opinions on but that i hate talking about in public because it still sets off my fight or flight response.

i know some people in the fandom are like "let me know if i ever rb someone who wrote/drew gross stuff" and that's entirely their choice and i respect it. but for the record, i am not one of these people. please, for the love of god, i am asking this genuinely do NOT come into my DMs about this, I don't want to know. assume I'm either living in blissful ignorance or my blacklist already covers me quite nicely & i wanna keep it that way. i vastly prefer the discomfort of stumbling into something unprepared and deciding what to do about it on my own, to the utter pit of dread i get whenever i open a message that starts with "hey just so you know-". i have blocked multiple people in the past over it. i WILL block more. be warned.

ok but not enough people are intrigued and obsessed and fascinated by connor mcdavid in the way i and others on this site are. like yes, yes i could ramble on and on about his skill. he is the best player in the world. period. you can't challenge that and if you are... are you blind? potentially uhm, how do i say this lightly, not smart? etc? there's no contention there, everyone knows it. and he's fast, and whatever. but i don't care about that. that's mcdavid. that's the man that i used to be so annoyed with because no one would shut up about him even when he wasn't even playing (and that's still annoying to me tbh it just happens less now). that's the star player on a team i used to hate when the avs played them ( idk why, i just always hated playing the oilers even when i started getting a soft spot for them). but, and i've said it before, mcdavid isn't connor.

connor is the one i'm so fascinated and intrigued by. it's not his hockey iq or his speed or anything. what i'm obsessed with is that haunted aura he carries everywhere and i mean everywhere. he just seems so... out of place? like you can almost tell he doesn't quite fit in. which is a little ironic and sad for the best player in the world, isn't it? but accurate, too. he's so unique and set apart and burdened with expectations that he wouldn't be allowed to be normal even if he tried. and you can see it clear as day. everyone jokes around about him having no personality but what else is he supposed to do when he gets asked the same question a million times anymore? i'd look just as haunted and annoyed if i were him.

but here's the thing. he's not just that broken boy either. he's a bit of a goof, actually. and it still surprises me, but he is. he's a silly fucking guy. i mean he goes out there and just lights it up, every night. and then you come to find out that he was the one organizing those stupid post-game berets and the plungers and shit? like i'm sorry? you're telling me the face of the league and one of the guys known for being incredibly dry, did that? and that he's out here helping with the all-star stuff, being sweet and showing (at least in part) some of his real self to these little kids who are growing up idolizing him, and being lovey with teammates. he's slipping on the ice hugging the team made of people he loves with all the passion he can muster because god he just wants to win it here. with them. FOR them. he wants to so so bad and it hurts.

like seriously i could go on and on about this guy. about how if people would just give a shit they would see the real person he is - haunted and silly in full - behind the layers of stress about expectations so high they're unachievable, annoyance with the same stupid questions being thrown at him, and the pressure to be the perfect star. if they would just care enough to pay attention to how he smiles at leon or how he cellys or how he hugs his teammates like they're his lifeline they would see connor, not just mcdavid. they would see the love and the care that shapes those haunted eyes. maybe. just maybe.

anyway connor mcdavid is an enigma and a weirdo and i love him so so much and i'm so so fascinated by him 🫠🫶
