Guys, I think Gable has true faith.
I just can’t get the church scene out of my head. We learn beforehand that Gable is someone who had religion used against him in his upbringing, so he understandably rejects it. He doesn’t think any higher power should have influence on how he lives his life, and he obviously disagrees with the people who use god as an excuse to be hateful.
But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t believe he’s a monster. That kind of abuse runs deep, and even if you know it isn’t true, it’s hard to reject all those influences when they’ve been ingrained into you since childhood.
That’s why the holy water burned Gable, and no one else. Because despite how much happier he seems now, despite how he very much accepts the fact that he’s queer; the people who raised him believe he’s a sinner. And deep down, he still believes it, too.
Because Gable has clearly never truly healed from his abusive upbringing, he accidentally makes the belief true. The water burns him because he believes it will, and he believes he’s bad and wrong because the water burns him. He can’t change it, and he knows that. He doesn’t want to. It’s not like he can just go back to the way things were now. So the only choice is just… to continue living. And hope he’ll never encounter anymore physical “proof” of his internal biases so he can live the life he chooses.
I wish Eddie had been there in the church with him, I’m sure he would’ve had something comforting to say as a queer man himself. But the help Katie, Naomi, and Jade were able to provide was already so beautiful; even if Gable wasn’t in a place to really see it. The three of them were willing to burn right along with him, to show him he’s not alone. They wished for it. And they haven’t even known him that long. This coterie is truly something special.
This scene has completely opened up what the concept of true faith can be in the world of darkness for me. Private Nightmares is already such a beautiful story and I really commend Xander and Alex for going there and exploring these themes. I think it has the potential to be really healing for a lot of people.

Finally found time to watch the first two prologues of ‘Project Ghostlight’.
I am really liking the vibe of the Beast as confidante, therapist, but something ever so slightly threatening at all times. The way Alex closes in on the player at the end of each prologue is a fascinating take on the Beast, both gentler and scarier than Jason Carl’s interpretation.
GABLE
I love Gable. I love the exploration of queer identity through vampirism, and Xander’s incredible vulnerability in the scene. He’s already tragic in interesting ways, and they’re inevitably going to get more complicated.
I think this Chronicle might well be set in LA, given that he moved somewhere to be a dancer, although conceivably it could be NY or Chicago, but given the implications of the whole ‘casting couch’ situation Gable is in, it seems very LA.
I also like that we don’t immediately know what clan our players are. It lets me speculate! I know that stereotypically, Gable would be Toreador. But I honestly find myself hoping for either Ministry or Salubri, because I love more obscure clans.
Very excited for this character and for Xander in this game.
EDDIE
A much more contained character here, more defensive and prepared than Gable was, so we maybe learn less about him. We know he’s a father, but rarely sees his son. We know he has a hard time picking his favorite thing about himself, and that the thing he likes least about himself is that he won’t live forever.
So we know the man has an ego. And it’s likely damaged relationships in the past for him. We also know he’s a ghoul, or was, and was hoping to be turned. Sounds like he was regularly fed on by various vampires, and was eventually turned by one of his ‘regulars’.
As for clan, personality-wise he gives off powerful Ventrue vibes. But if he’s turned by a regular, it’s a lot harder to say which clan ended up picking him. He could be just about anything, despite seeming fairly Ventrue.
SETTING
As I said, it feels LA to me. A city of broken dreams and great ambitions. Almost certainly modern. I’m interested to see how Alex ends up spinning Kindred society, and which slice of society we’re playing in. It feels like it could easily be Camarilla rather than Anarch, but we’ve been given so little to go on that I’m mostly shooting in the dark on that one.
Either way, I’m very interested to see what sort of world they build, how it’s similar to the By Night games and how it differs. Honestly, I’m especially excited to see how it differs, because seeing how different groups can interpret the same system is always fun.
I can’t wait to see who ends up as the next prologue! We still have Aabria, Mayanna, and Gina to go, if I recall correctly.

On January 31, 1961, Marilyn attended the premiere of 'The Misfits' at the Capitol Theatre on Broadway, accompanied by her co-star Montgomery Clift. Arthur Miller was also present with his two children, Jane and Robert, but Marilyn avoided seeing him, as their divorce had been finalized just a week earlier, on January 24. She wore a black dress designed by John Moore in honor of her co-star Clark Gable, who had passed away on November 16, 1960, after suffering a heart attack—just days after completing filming for 'The Misfits' on November 4 at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. 🖤
