I'm genuinely so excited for gencon, it made me do my homework early and I'm gonna do my exam today. So that it won't risk getting in the way of gencon.
Things I'm going to do that I'm most excited about:
Combat Classes for: sword, knife, longsword, saber, kendo, And rogue stage fighting
Introduction to dice making class
Panel on Eberron With Keith Baker AND it'll give out a commemorative d20 as part of it
Panel with critical role artists (not the players themselves, but people who work on the comics and such)
TAZ book launch event for the latest comic book WITH copies of said comic book handed out as part of it
McElroy TTRPG liveplay panel
Signing & selfie with the McElroys (Minus Justin lol)
And those are just the panels!!! Not even all of them. I also have panels for making a hollow book box, making a dice set bracelet, and a panel on gamemaster & writing (specifically bridging between being a gamemaster and being a writer, which is great for me, the writer who wants to gm at some point)
There's also going to be the merch room (so many DIIIIIICE) and assorted other open things. The biggest tabletop gaming convention in North America!!!!!!! I'm PUMPED!!!!!!!!!
#speculation nation#im still a little sad the critical role players wont be here this year. theyve attended in the past.#but that's ok!! still plenty of other things to do. and im excited about meeting the mcelroys in person hfkshfkd#actually a little nervous about that one. i havent been as interactive with their stuff in recent years#but im still an old TAZ fan and have enjoyed their stuff since 2016. that's so long ago!!!! i'm gonna die!!!!!#hfkshfkd my thursday is the most busy. 7 panels that day alone. out of a total of 15 across 4 days.#aka i have Almost half of all my panels just in one day. i will be a busy bee. thats why im gonna pack food lol.#im just vibrating. my first gencon!!! it's so exciting!!!#and im excited about getting personal experience with combat forms for enriching my action writing#and im excited about getting a preview for dice making bc that's smth ive wanted to get into for years now!!!!#and im also just thinking about how many Fucking dice there will be. my personal wonderland.#my sister mentioned that there will be a section for miniatures Specifically the maps that will be used in games later#which will be so fun to look at. i love looking at cool miniature models.#im going to be kind of obnoxious maybe hfkshfkd so im sorry if ppl dont care about my con happenings.#but i havent been to a convention since 2019 and i am EXCITED!!! WAHOO!!!!!!!

At my SDCC panel, I showed eight images from eight products that we’ll be previewing over the next two weeks (at MagicCon and GenCon). I’m going to post the images here for you all to discuss. I’m going to make each image its own post.

Transgender Deathmatch Legend II launches on October 29th. There's been a lot of previews over on my blog; the Rules of a Fight, a post about Character Creation and the full opening essay; Looking Up at the Lights.
You might have read the original game. You can watch a demo of the original game over on GenCon TV or listen back to the Party of One episode. The rules have been revised since then (which you can see in that preview post) but the thrust of play remains the same. If you are interested in the game and want to learn or see more there's loads out there.
Strangely for me this makes it kinda hard to think of what else to talk about to promote that campaign that isn't repeating the same stuff over and over again. I'll likely do some previews of the different scenarios this week. But first I thought I'd talk about the different pledge levels and the box set on offer.
(fun fact: I made the box set mock-up image very suddenly cause BackerKit told me my cover image was too scandalous to use as a main image for the project)
(what's the charge? Etc etc but yeah the project had to be flagged as NSFW which has got me worrying about if that'll kill the reach)
Anyway so the first pledge levels are PDF, then the first physical tier is the core book which will be printed as A4 landscape with horizontal wiro-binding (calendar esque). There are then levels which include signed versions of the core book and the book plus donating community copies.
After that there is the deluxe box set. That'll include the book, a deck of cards and a custom token for moving across maps. The first stretch goal to the campaign will involve creating a supplement of playable characters (titled Hot Rising Talents) which will immediately be added to the box set for all backers at that level.
(from there there's also signed versions of the box set, plus box set with community copy donations and there's a limited tier where you can name a wrestler on a poster line up I'll build into the layout)
It's close! Like 15 days away, and being honest the numbers are starting to worry me, so's the possibility of the art being a problem, and I'm also running into some personal stress as the same time. (It's the Hangman Page line; I'm angry, I'm frustrated, I can't sleep at night, and so on)

Image previews from GenCon surrounding the actual Magic the Gathering sets from now until the beginning of 2026. Sorry, but they have way too many Universes Beyond sets coming out. You know, the product that wasn't supposed to be every quarter year but actually is? Yeah, no thank you.
Anyways, as far as real MtG goes, I'm excited. So after 'Wilds of Eldraine' and 'Lost Caverns of Ixalan', we'll be going back to Ravnica for a murder mystery. This is only for one set and is not tied to the guilds. There will be a stand alone product that incorporates the characters and storyline into the game of Clue for that game's 75th Anniversary.
Next, though I'm not too terribly a fan of westerns, I think Outlaws will be fun, at least. And perhaps a little nostalgic as I used to watch the Western Channel with my uncle when I was taking caring of him. And the set will take place on a new plane but with some familiar villainous faces.
I'm glad a new Modern Horizons set is coming out and with double-sided cards now. Not much was said about it besides the double-faced cards will help bring even more mechanics to a MH set.
After that we have 'Bloomburrow' which is set on a plane of talking animals, no humanoids so all the creatures will be true to scale. A mouse character will be the size of a mouse, etc. And after that will be 'Duskmourn' which is set on a plane that is surrounded by a haunted mansion. I'm guessing that the concept is similar to Ravnica being covered in world-city. So Duskmourn is a world-haunt?

18. TSR - The Strategic Preview #4 (1976)

The second issue (although it says 4 because it continues the numbering from Strategic Review) of the TSR inhouse pamphlet isn't particularly relevant to D&D, but it is fun. It starts off by stating that the company has had a coup by adding the miniature gaming magazine Courier to their own magazine Little Wars, but then goes on to give us the fact that TSR has managed to get The Playboy Mansion (at Lake Geneva) as a venue for GenCon X.
That's right, there was a Playboy Club there and a bunch of nerds got to play D&D in the rooms populated by Bunnies and everything... The 70s were a crazy time. Also it shows how TSR and GenCon was an absolute bro club at the time.

i was incredibly excited when i saw that legend of the five rings was going to be a major focus at asmodee's gencon booth but all the news they've been previewing has left me cold. a bunch of con exclusive collectibles, two boardgames, a roguelite autobattler video game, and an adventure module for the shitty dnd 5e l5r port. sad sad day

🦚🌸 Heres a preview to a brand new piece that I've been working on. The muses haven't told me what the name to the piece is just yet. ^^;; I'm thinking of putting together a big metal paper print, originals(this piece included) and variant sales in line with the upcoming Gencon/Otakon online weekend. July 30-Aug 2nd. Let me know your thoughts. 🥳 #puillustrated #preview #gencon #otakon #upcoming #timedevent #original #eyes #untitled #watercolor #ink #pen #art #wip (at Volo, Illinois) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCjZYSzDnYx/?igshid=eix52g4jqoek
