With cooling towers each large enough to hold London's Big Ben tower inside, the United Kingdom's mammoth Drax Power Station is transitioning from burning coal to relying on biomass wood pellets. Eventually, says its parent company, the Yorkshire facility will capture CO2, from smokestack emissions and route it to giant storage reservoirs under the North Sea. But critics question whether Drax's burning of “renew-able” wood, mainly from North American forests, is any better for the environment than burning coal.

i think that veganism as a political movement has a lot of interesting things to say about how food agriculture has been shaped by consumerism and the way its alienated the average westerner from food production especially around meat. its a cruel cruel industry for everyone involved and it sucks.
unfortunately it also overwelmingly falls victim (like a lot of other socially progressive political movements lol) to a complete inability or perhaps a refusal to engage with rural indigenous communities especially in the global south. which is ironic because (like a lot of other socially progressive political movements) much of their theoretical framework for reforming society Depends on rural indigenous communities especially in the global south ^.^

i'm actually in disbelief. labour won the election for the first time since i hit double digits. lib dems also have a fuckton of seats. the tories have their worst election result on record, smashing the last one by 50 less seats and making another record by having four former pms lose their seats (last record was one, i think?).
genuinely just amazed that we've finally overthrown the tories. it's unbelievable.
also chesham and amersham kept the lib dem mp they elected in the 2021 by-election after having tory mps for literally the entire history of the constituency, despite a 20% boost in turnout (52% vs 72%). absolutely fantastic.

as a north american who's a huge britcom fan it's so interesting to me that it feels like every other british comedian originally came from a double act (which seems much less popular here)

I think that the worst thing honestly is knowing that we could try our absolute hardest and shout the loudest we can and spend the most money and it still wouldn't change the availability of these things for well-wishers outside the UK
and the ABSOLUTE worst is that even on the list of 'maybe someday we might consider the idea of coming to your section of the earth' for these things is that Australasia is like... maybe 4th? and even then 100% guarantee it would happen in Australia, never New Zealand 🫠

For some reason the dream I had last night was double apocalyptic: first there was a huge volcanic eruption (the kind where it exploded) far away but close enough for the shockwave to reach us and then toxic ash fall so everyone was stuck indoors (except I had to take the dogs* out for a walk eventually so they could relieve themselves and one of those dogs being a Rottweiler turned out to be a good thing bc he protecc) but a few hours later it started raining ? Which ok it washed away the ash BUT IT KEPT RAINING and I looked out the window and saw water levels rapidly rising until ground floors were entirely under water (in our house we were currently on the first floor) and it kept rising and the power cut off but I still had mobile phone reception incl 4g and the last I remember before I woke up was checking the news and seeing a map of Europe and it was all water except for a few tall mountain ranges. Like all of it was just gone and we were sitting on the floor at the highest level of our house knowing everything around us for hundreds of km in any direction was also under water
* I don’t have dogs and haven’t since I was 18

is it an american thing to think that europe and the european union are the same thing cause i have seen 2 americans in the past week say that the uk left europe or isn't european anymore and sorry but i have legit never seen anyone who wasn't american think this. like i have plenty of non-european friends who don't think this. it just seems to be specifically americans. or maybe it's just bc most of the english-speaking internet is american idk
in any case, if it needs clarifying: the uk did not leave europe, it left the eu. the only way the uk can leave europe is if we physically cut the island out from the ground and translocated it to a different continent. preferrably we'd cut britain out of europe and just project it into space and leave earth a better place (leave northern ireland behind though, they didn't ask for any of this)

Europe Aircraft Leasing Market: Rapid Development and Value Trends Forecast (2024-2032)
The Europe Aircraft Leasing Market is on a trajectory of rapid development, driven by evolving value trends and a robust aviation sector. As European airlines and operators navigate the complexities of fleet management, leasing has emerged as a strategic solution to meet both current and future needs.
Europe Aircraft Leasing Market showcases the following key aspects:
Fleet Expansion and Modernization: European airlines are increasingly turning to leasing to expand and modernize their fleets. This approach allows them to quickly integrate new aircraft models that enhance operational efficiency and comply with environmental regulations.
Economic Uncertainty and Flexibility: Leasing provides airlines with greater financial flexibility amid economic uncertainties. It allows operators to manage capital expenditure more effectively and adjust their fleet size according to market demand.
Technological Advancements: The adoption of advanced technologies in leased aircraft supports better fuel efficiency and lower emissions. European airlines benefit from these innovations without the long-term financial commitment of owning the aircraft.
Regulatory Pressure: Europe’s stringent environmental regulations drive the demand for modern, eco-friendly aircraft. Leasing offers a practical solution for airlines to meet these requirements while minimizing financial risk.
Geographical Distribution: Key markets in Europe, such as the UK, Germany, and France, are at the forefront of the leasing trend. Their well-developed aviation sectors and strategic positions contribute to the overall growth of the market.
The forecast for the Europe Aircraft Leasing Market is characterized by robust growth and ongoing development. As airlines continue to seek flexible and cost-effective solutions, leasing will remain a vital component of the region’s aviation landscape.

In the summer of 2022, I was on set for a pre-light on a separate project when I was tapped for a Zoom meeting with Plimsoll Productions from Bristol, UK. Before our intro call, I was unfamiliar with Pilmsoll's work. Still, I was delighted to meet Producer/Director Stephanie Thompson and learn about their incredible work in the nature documentary space. The project she was working on was so exciting because it was so unlike the typical commercial projects I do. The ask was simple; Stephanie and her team of three would be traveling to Chicago to film a segment on the Peregrine Falcon for a new show called "SuperNatural Planet." Not only did they need a local producer to help with permits in the city, but they needed to permit rooftops of skyscrapers! In addition, they were looking for a drone team and an FPV pilot to film shots of the birds in flight as well as film from the "bird's perspective," giving the audience an intensely immersive experience of what these incredible birds see as they dive down the sides of the tallest buildings in the city. What a great creative challenge!
My Production Coordinator Katie Kranz and I dove into this immediately, bringing on Skeye Hawk Productions, made of Joekean Tang and Nick Blaising, as our Drone team. They added an expert FPV drone pilot, Paul Nurk, to the team, and with the three of them at the aerial helm and my locations team pulling permits, we were firing on all cylinders!
Throughout the nine-day production, we supported Stephanie and her team with production resources, transportation, and equipment rental needs. The footage that her DP, Christopher Openshaw, and our Drone team were able to capture began to tell a story of these city-living Peregrine Falcons and the cycle they go through as they train their young to hunt and survive in the city of Chicago. Months later, I caught up with the Plimsoll team to see how the post-production process was going. Then, I learned that Benedict Cumberbatch was to lend his Voice to the series, another highlight of this project. When released on Disney+, our Chicago-based portion was featured in episode 2, "Bloodline." It was a thrill to have been a small part of this incredible series, but the proper credit goes to Stephanie and her vision for capturing the beauty of nature in the concrete jungle that is Chicago.
I am going to continue asking until someone answers the question. What the hell happened to this beautiful piece of cinema? Where is Super/Natural Planet? It's not like you don't need a few more good feathers in your sagging cap, Disney. This was a well-received and reviewed documentary, and Nature films are usually boring. This wasn't.
WHAT HAPPENED?
