“WILL THE EX-KAISER RE-ASCEND GERMAN THRONE?” Owen Sound Sun Times. March 13, 1933.  --- News from Germany is quite disturbing at the present time. The Republican flag has been replaced by the flag of the Ex-Kaiser Wilhelm, by order of President Von Hindenburg, with the Hitler flag having equality with it. Europe is much concerned over recent events in Germany and there are hints of another war.
From left to right: EX-KAISER WILHELM, CHANCELLOR HITLER PRESIDENT VON HINDENBURG
[AL: A key lesson from reading Canadian coverage of the Nazi seizure of power is that even the most anodyne newspaper coverage was rightly concerned about what this meant, and had Hitler pegged as a dangerous militarist. It was only later, at high levels of press and politician, that a pervasive effort was made to make his government seem reasonable and normal.]

QUESTIONING THE STORY OF GERMAN MILITARISM IRON AND BLOOD: A MILITARY HISTORY OF THE GERMAN-SPEAKING PEOPLES SINCE 1500 That is a big book. Hefty. “Not through speeches and majority decisions will the great questions of the day be decided, but by iron and blood.” — Bismarck in 1862 “Because of a focus on the two world wars, with perhaps a glance back to the Franco-Prussian war of 1871, a myth has evolved of a specifically German way of war.” Another myth is “of a unique German genius for war based on superior technology, skill and martial spirit. Even today, Hitler’s Wehrmacht is admired by many military types, especially in America.” The equivalent to the modern “shock and awe” of America is the blitzkrieg of World War II. (I disagree with this point.) “Conflicts within or involving that strange entity, the Holy Roman Empire, the collection of mostly German-speaking states dominated by Habsburg Austria,  made the German way of war quite different from those of unitary states such as England or France. The quasi-autonomy of the component parts, which nearly all maintained their own armies, required a decentralised and collaborative approach—the antithesis of the authoritarian model that emerged later.” “Iron and Blood delves into politics, economics, technology and social developments. Its long view of Germany’s military history, magisterial detail and acute analysis provide a new understanding of what was once Europe’s warring heart.”

The long preparation of class struggle from above
(translated from perspektive-online.net)
The Salami Tactic: What sounds like a funny strategy from a party game is a tried and tested means of influencing public opinion in German politics. Whether militarization, the asylum debate, Agenda 2010 or the upcoming budget – over the span of months, rather uncomfortable facts are made acceptable and - at first glance - unobjectable. How the class war is being waged from above and what traps we must not fall into. - An analysis by Fridolin Tschernig
Three days after Russia's attack on Ukraine, the discussion about the introduction of a military draft started again. Since then, the idea of compulsory military service has flared up again and again in Germany. Slowly but surely we are supposed to be prepared for it. However, the population is still rather divided on such issues, not least because the overwhelming majority tends to reject a "war-ready" Germany with a "leading role in Europe".
As a trick, however, the state is discussing compulsory social service in order to be able to introduce compulsory military service via the back door. The idea is to gradually get the population in line and then present them with a fait accompli. If we're constantly being bombarded with confused arguments as to why compulsory military service is absolutely necessary, at some point we won't be so sure ourselves whether compulsory military service is really such a bad thing or not.
As a result, the actual steps towards compulsory military service remained largely opaque to us. A constantly changing discourse, which takes on different forms at different times, can quickly have surprising consequences. It's like the movement of the sun across the horizon: if we look at it every minute, it never seems to change its position. But if we wait three or four hours, it may have already set.
What we have seen since February 2022 in the case of compulsory military service can be seen in many of the attacks from above. Agenda 2010 did not come out of nowhere either: since 1982, social benefits for refugees have been gradually cut. From then on - and later with the Asylbewerberleistungsgesetz („Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act“) - a catalog of cuts and sanctions was drawn up that reduced entitlements to a minimum. Together with extensive agitation by BILD and preparation by politicians, such as the Schröder-Blair-Paper.
We can also see this in the refugee debate. The AfD, whose most important topic is the refugee issue, occupies a special position here. But politicians in general are also working with the media to spread more and more hate speech and lies. We recently saw what this leads to in the discussion about Berlin’s public swimming pools. And on New Year's Eve, we can once again expect increased incitement against migrants. This is how politicians legitimize the intensified terror of deportation and the further abolition of the right to asylum - and there is no great outcry.
The whole thing can also be observed on a small scale: for example, increased police deployment is legitimized long in advance for actions on the street. The propaganda together with the special rights for the police before the G20 summit in Hamburg 2017 or the „Day X“ Demonstration in Leipzig 2023 serve as prime examples. These smaller campaigns are then used again to restrict the right of assembly throughout Germany. But, of course, this will also be done in stages, from state to state.
Last but not least, this also applies to the current discussion about the budget. Massive cuts will be made to social services in the future, that is certain. Politicians have been insisting for months that "we" have to make savings. Cuts have already been made at municipal and state level, youth centers have been closed and much more besides. Here, too, we are being bombarded with the wildest justifications and the first steps have already been taken in the direction of the budget cuts.
But why all this? Why do those in power want to impose their attacks on us piecemeal instead of all at once. Why is so much energy being expended on repeatedly stirring up debates and pushing through the smallest changes through day-to-day legislation? The answer is obvious: to prevent us from reacting.
After Agenda 2010, hundreds of thousands took to the streets to demonstrate against the cuts. Such mass protests in a very short space of time are not at all to the liking of those in power. And so they are trying to prevent similarly large-scale resistance by taking these small steps, massaging opinions and normalizing the issues to the public. The whole thing is called "salami tactics". It describes a process in which a small slice is repeatedly cut from a large whole instead of putting everything directly on the table.
This tactic is used in Germany for all issues. At present, attempts are being made to push through all changes as slowly as possible and as quickly as necessary. But even this tactic is subject to fluctuations: In politically dynamic times, in which the ruling class has to rearm faster and faster, decisions have to be implemented without long preparation. One example of this is Scholz's turnaround. In just a few hours, the entire geopolitical orientation of the Federal Republic of Germany was changed.
In order to understand how the class struggle is waged from above, we cannot avoid taking a long-term view and seeing through the strategy. For example now: We don't know exactly when, how and where cuts will be made. But we do know that we are facing massive cuts in the social sector. The extent of this is being concealed from us. But exposing this is precisely our greatest strength. And that's what we need to focus on again and again.
„The reintroduction of compulsory military service is a decicive signal.“ said Bernd Althusmann (CDU) on 27. February 2022.
„With around 200,000 soldiers, the Bundeswehr is too small.“, opined Patrick Sensburg from the reservist association on 28. April 2022.
„I would like us to have a debate about compulsory social service“, encouraged President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on 12. June 2022.
„It was a mistake to suspend compulsory military service“ – War Minister Boris Pistorius on 27. January 2023.
„Compulsory time strengthens our democracy.“, alleged Steinmeier on 26. Mai 2023.
„It is important and right to initiate the debate on compulsory social leave,“, SPD Commissioner for Care Claudia Moll on 22. July 2023.
„We need this stable backbone more urgently than ever, which is why I brought the idea of compulsory social leave into the discussion.“, Steinmeier said at a „town hall“ on 16. September 2023.
„Now is the time to talk about compulsory service“, added CDU parliamentary group leader Johann Wadephul on 26. November 2023.
And just in time for the Festival of Peace War Minister Pistorius prophesied on 09. December 2023: „The discussion about it [compulsory military service] will pick up speed“.

According to documents obtained by Grist and Type Investigations through a Freedom of Information Act request, the FBI’s Minneapolis office opened a counterterrorism assessment in February 2012, focusing on actions in South Dakota, that continued for at least a year and may have led to the opening of additional investigations. These documents reveal that the FBI was monitoring activists involved in the Keystone XL campaign about a year earlier than previously known.  Their contents suggest that, long before the Keystone and Dakota Access pipelines became national flashpoints, the federal government was already developing a sweeping law enforcement strategy to counter any acts of civil disobedience aimed at preventing fossil fuel extraction. And young, Native activists were among its first targets. “The threat emerging … is evolving into one based on opposition to energy exploration related to any extractions from the earth, rather than merely targeting one project and/or one company,” the FBI noted in its description of the Wanblee blockade. The 15-page file, which is heavily redacted, also describes Native American groups as a potentially dangerous threat and likens them to “environmental extremists” whose actions, according to the FBI, could lead to violence. The FBI acknowledged that Native American groups were engaging in constitutionally protected activity, including attending public hearings, but emphasized that this sort of civic participation might spawn criminal activity.  To back up its claims, the FBI cited a 2011 State Department hearing on the pipeline in Pierre, South Dakota, attended by a small group of Native activists. The FBI said the individuals were dressed in camouflage and had covered their faces with red bandanas, “train robber style.” According to the report, they were also carrying walking sticks and shaking sage, claiming to be “Wounded Knee Security of/for Mother Earth.” “The Bureau is uncertain how the NA group(s) will act initially or subsequently if the project is approved,” the agency wrote.  The FBI also singled out the “Native Youth Movement,” which it described as a mix between a “radical militia and a survivalist group.” In doing so, it appeared to conflate a specific activist group originally founded in Canada in the 1990s with the broader array of young Native activists who opposed the pipeline decades later. Young activists would play an important role in the Keystone XL campaign and later on during protests against the Dakota Access pipeline at Standing Rock, but the movement had little in common with militias or survivalists, terms typically used to describe far-right groups or those seeking to disengage from society.  The FBI declined to respond to questions for this story. In an emailed statement, a spokesperson for the Minneapolis field office said the agency does not typically comment on FOIA releases and “lets the information contained in the files speak for itself.”
[...]
Environmental activists and attorneys who reviewed the new documents told Grist and Type Investigations that law enforcement’s approach to the Keystone XL campaign looked like a template for the increasingly militarized response to subsequent environmental and social justice campaigns — from efforts to block the Dakota Access pipeline at Standing Rock to the ongoing protests against the police training center dubbed “Cop City” in Atlanta, Georgia, which would require razing at least 85 acres of urban forest.  The FBI’s working thesis, outlined in the new documents, that “most environmental extremist groups” have historically moved from peaceful protest to violence has served as the basis for subsequent investigations. “It’s astonishing to me how such a broad concept basically paints every activist and protester as a future terrorist,” said Mike German, a former FBI special agent who is now a fellow at the nonprofit Brennan Center for Justice.

OLIVER PATRIDGE for rock of love with JACKSON ROTH!! a bachelor challenge by @rainymoodlet <3
★⠀›⠀introducing OLIVER PATRIDGE a 33y/o retired militar and a current vet ! click below to learn more about him !!
🌾! STORY
From his first little steps, Oliver was always a farm boy. He grew up in Henford-on-Bagley with his grandparents, running barefoot across the grass while surrounded by animals, from the smallest goats to the largest horses. He was never afraid of falling and getting dirty, much less of the animals that more than once gave him what he deserved for being meddlesome, but it was all part of learning. Once he finished his compulsory studies at the small town school, he didn't have many outlets and much less idea what he wanted to do. He only knew that he didn't want to lose his freedom sitting in an office chair in front of a computer. So, taking advantage of his good physical shape, he entered the army as a veterinarian and years later joined the K9 where he met Koda, a German shepherd with whom he quickly became friends. Despite the constant risk to his life, Oliver was happy, until when trying to save one of his mates he suffered a serious accident where he lost his left leg and complete hearing in his right ear. Koda lost an eye in the same accident, so they both retired to Brindleton Bay where they opened their own small veterinary clinic.
🌻! FUN FACTS
☆ › He uses a prosthesis on his leg and a hearing system, so he hates when people talk to him on his right side. ★ › He was engaged to a woman until he realized he was gay, today they are best friends and have a daughter in common. ☆ › Since he grew up in a religious environment, he never accepted his homosexuality until he was twenty-eight years old. ★ › He loves baking for the people he loves, and also he has even learned to make pet friendly desserts. ☆ › Despite his clumsiness he is a great horse and motorbike rider.

If I see one more post about "trump almost getting assassinated means its the end of the world he's guaranteed to win the election now" I'm going to scream.
First of all, stop doomposting. Get your head out of that mindset, and if you can't get out of that mindset, not filling your dash with doom will genuinely help.
Second of all, Trump was already almost guaranteed to win. If you're anywhere that is not on Tumblr, Biden's polling numbers are atrocious for individual states as well as nation-wide.
~60% of Americans disapprove of Biden.
~67% of Americans want Biden to step down and let another candidate run.
Instead of spending your time crying about how everyone needs to
"Vote for Biden, because even though he's actively commiting genocide right now, at least he promises that he will protect abortion rights and trans rights if he's elected into power for another four years!"
aka
"Vote for Hitler, because while he may not like other people, at least he promises to not take away the rights of Germans here in our country!"
Instead of supporting a genocide (voting for Biden, and trying to convince people to vote for him which is the opposite of beating a dead horse) and thinking the world is going to end if Trump gets elected, you should be
1) Research your other candidate options for November. It takes a single google search of "Presidential election candidates" and it'll come up with countless polls and articles about who all of the independent and third party candidates are.
2) Organizing within your local community, or at the very least, just. Get out there and get to know people. Get to know your neighbors, your cashiers at the local grocery store, join a local gardening Facebook group and start a small food garden, in the ground or in containers. Make some community connections, so if shit hits the fan, you have a local support network, and can help each other.
3) Listen to Palestinians. Listen to Indigenous people. Listen to Black activists. Listen to the marginalized groups who have been begging for years, decades, for people to see that there is no "Lesser Evil" if the side wearing blue hat continues to commit genocide, murders minorities, puts kids in cages, continues to put unlawful embargos on entire nations, and continues to commit war crimes and attempt to topple the governments of other nations.
Project 2025 has been the Republican plan for when they get elected for the last 40 years, they just so happen to have a fancy PDF to fear monger with this year.
The entire world is not going to end if Donald Trump gets elected, and if you truly do think it is, instead of attempting to convince people to vote for a man committing genocide that more than half the country disapproves of, how about you spend your energy on convincing BIDEN to halt all military aid to Israel and to use the troops HE stationed in Israel to actually give aid and prevent more war crimes?
Oh wait. He can't do that, he's already committed so many war crimes. they already dressed up as aid workers and slaughtered 300 innocent people for the "sake" of 2 hostages that Israel has refused all actual negotiations to return them, because Israel literally doesn't care about hostages, it just wants all of Gaza gone and under Israeli control.
You don't fucking bomb the place you think hostages are in, you don't go around slaughtering innocent people if you care about hostages, including slaughtering your own people you're supposedly there to rescue.
Biden literally said that if there were no Israel, America would have to invent its own. His opinion has not changed one bit, and you can see it every time he and his group call college students protesting genocide "outside actors", when he further militarizes the police so they can shoot, beat, and maim peaceful protestors. When he claims to have seen photographs of beheaded babies that don't exist and continues to spout claims long -debunked about October 7th.
"violence does not belong in our politics, but only when it doesn't involve me sadistically supporting crimes against humanity and genocide"
Anyways this post is long and rambling.
Tldr: stop acting like its the end of the world if Trump gets elected. Instead of screaming people need to vote for Genocide Joe, focus your attention on getting him to step down so another candidate can take his place in August. Look up third party candidates, and organize in your local community.
And, don't forget your daily clicks!

Submitting my thoughts as an Indian and Pakistani fan of GG, but I'm kinda disappointed that a lot of analysts who cover Zepp don't seem all too concerned with looking closely at aspects of South Asian culture and history or anything outside of India when it comes to Zepp. Yes it is Indian but you can't discuss India and just magically divorce it from shared cultural ties with Pakistan (and by extension Bangladesh, however I am not Bengali and thus can't speak much on it.) For example Gabriel's blue uniform is so clearly based on a veshti combined with the female air force uniform for Pakistan, or that Zepp's symbol is based on the Garuda Commando Forces logo- even the uniforms of said force match much closer to Zepp's uniforms than any stated "inspiration" I've seen. Hell even the slavery system within Zepp is a reflection that our countries still struggle with caste and class based slavery on a much larger scale (it's affected my own lower class family). This isn't even to mention Potemkin who seems much more tied to how Indo-Pak militarism, nationalism, and facism can affect areas like Kashmir. People are quick to call "German and Russian" influences but the only ones I remotely even observe as a brown person are literally just Pot and Gabriel's names. I dunno. It's just vexing to me. Like it's a country made by dissatisfied Indians post-crusades, so the idea that the old government was somehow less south asian is like. Weird to me. Like there's nothing to indicate that other than people conflating out architectural styles with Russian ones too. Like a lot of Zepp seems to resemble Rajasthani and Punjabi (both sides) architecture in particular but I'm just saddened knowing nobody will look that far into it simply because they might not have that same cultural attachment to it.
Side note I'm also not a fan of how Daisuke refuses to give names to Zeppian characters that match with their ethnic background. For every Leon Mining, Gabriel, and Potemkin, we could've gotten like... actual references to our rock and metal scene. Even "Zepp" as the country name dissatisfies me. Creators and fandoms have such a bad habit at making something or acknowledging something as "South Asian" and then refuse to elaborate on it beyond a few visuals. It feels gauche.
Something something the prevalence of ki not being touched upon for any of South Asia / Zepp by extension within GG is also a major annoyance when we share a lot of faith based aspects with regions like China and Japan.
This has been kinda long winded but holy shit fighting games really just annoy me sometimes with how they treat South Asia as a whole. I just feel it very strongly with GG in particular since Daisuke was very close to peak. So close. I will say he clearly put in a lot of effort that non-south asians probably wouldn't recognize at a first glance, but the smaller details surrounding Zepp and some of the assumptions made about Zepp fandom wise combine into a "nobody will get it like I do" situation.
It's genuinely very cool to see someone's perspective and analysis on it who has more experience and understanding than most western gamers. I appreciate you sharing!

okay but if we’re going to go with theatre major phoenix we need to go full fucking theatre major phoenix
like he shows up in germany the first time like “if there’s time for it i’d love to catch a show while i’m here, germany has such a vibrant theatre scene”.
and edgeworth's like “absolutely we can make that happen, i believe there’s a major schiller production running at the moment and it should have english surtitles”.
and phoenix is like “oh yeah no i’m sure it’s really solid but actually there’s a shakespeare production i’m interested in”.
edgeworth is like “okay odd choice for someone supposedly interested in the german theatre scene, but yeah who can say no to shakespeare". but they get there and it turns out it's this like peak weird experimental avant-garde german theatre production of coriolanus that’s set in a bdsm club. for like four hours edgeworth keeps looking over at phoenix like “what in the actual fuck is happening right now right now” but no matter what is happening onstage, phoenix just keeps watching it intently, finger pressed to his lips, the same pensive furrow to his brow that he gets in court when listening to testimony.
but afterwards when they're sipping their after-show aftercare tea in the lobby phoenix is waving his arms all over the place as he's like “SUCH an effective use of consent! the way they just continually wove it into everything. the almost brechtian emersion it created. the way it laid bare the underlying themes around consent of the governed. and then tying that in with the obvious angle of the performative masculinity of militarism and an audience that demands to be played to, and drawing the comparison between that and both bdsm AND theatre itself. an obvious comparison of course, but SO well done! just wow!"
and edgeworth who still hasn't quite managed to process anything beyond that first moment when coriolanus walked onstage in full leather daddy get-up and has a white-knuckled death grip on the after-show aftercare blanket wrapped around his shoulders just nods weakly and croaks out a vague “i'm glad you enjoyed it”
like he's gotta be into weird and experimental theatre. he can't have been a theatre major and NOT be into weird and experimental theatre. sure he'll go see the schiller production and enjoy it, but bdsm coriolanus is what gets his Theatre Kid blood pumping, y'know.

I have MANY pending books to read, whether diaries, reports, story books, Brazilian Pracinhas and Nurses and much more.  But to save time, I decided to just read a few quick articles to prepare this post.
All pointed here is in a historical view.
Brazil was officially the only South American country to send troops to the conflict under its flag.
Historically, Brazil's actions prevailed in Italy.  It was where Brazil sent its troops, and its participation in the war was delayed as Brazil wanted to maintain its relations with both sides and remain neutral throughout the conflict.  After German and Italian attacks suffered by Brazilian ships, Brazil gave up its neutrality, siding with the Allies.
American military bases were built in the Northeast region of Brazil and Brazilian troops received American training.
"In 1939, with the beginning of the Second World War, Brazil remained neutral, in continuation of President Getúlio Vargas' policy of not defining itself by any of the great powers, only trying to take advantage of the advantages offered by them. Such "pragmatism " was interrupted at the beginning of 1942, when the United States and the Brazilian government agreed to transfer air bases on the island of Fernando de Noronha and along the north-northeast Brazilian coast to receive American military bases (if negotiations had not result, with Vargas and the military insisting on maintaining neutrality, the US had plans to invade the Brazilian northeast, codenamed Plan Rubber).”  (WIKIPEDIA)
"Natal, the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in northeastern Brazil, has a very important strategic global geographic position. This fact made the city host the two main American military bases during the Second World War: the Naval Base and Parnamirim Field – at the time it was the largest US Air Force base on foreign territory.”  (WIKIPEDIA)
// Getúlio Vargas flirted with the Fascist ideology even tho, he went to ALLIES' side. 💀
HCs: (don't take them too seriously)
⚠️ Remembering the following content: we are still talking about Hetalia, so my HCs and lore are not absolute truth, but my perception of my oc's participation during the conflict.  Even though it has a historical basis behind it.  And also, this is historical fiction (ofc, it's hetalia).  WWII is an extremely sensitive topic to many. I ask for caution, I will be careful with what I have to say.
— Alfred used his charm and charisma to make Mayara fight alongside him (Good Neighbor Policy). What worked and they formed an alliance based on a mutual exchange of interests.
— Mayara had developed a strange feeling that intensified for Alfred (something between admiration and wanting to be like him, a complex feeling, which perhaps was confused with platonic love and which sought certain privileges in that alliance), even if she was reluctant to give end her neutral stance towards the conflict (something similar to what happened in WWI).  She would later do this after torpedoing of vessels by German and Italian submarines, retaliation due to Brazil's accession to the Atlantic Charter;  thus, she broke ties with the AXIS and declared war on Italy and Germany.
— In my universe, Mayara also served as a nurse, and spent most of her time with Alfred, often tending to his wounds.  Sometimes just chitchatting together or learning about militarism and things like that. He trained her. He was the one who supported her.
— I changed my conception of another topic, which was May's direct participation on the battlefield.  I think that Mayara, in addition to serving as a nurse, also fought on the front line when necessary (due to the fact that she was the representative of Brazil) and needed to be on the front line.  In my former HC she didn't go to the front. (I disagree with the 2021 me xd).
—  I don't believe that Alfred reciprocated any kind of feelings for May. She was an important piece for him, and so he courted her, to secure a new ally.  It was a benefits relationship.
— Besides Alfred.  There were FEW times where dialogues with England took place, this was due to the participation of Anglo-Brazilians on the English side (if I'm not wrong, in the area of aviation, but I need to delve deeper into the topic).  An almost tiny interaction compared to the prevalence of Alfred's actions, which was immensely greater and also generated impacts.
PS: I don't ship BrAme/AmeBra, they are just friends.  However, Mayara, as I said, had strange feelings for him at some moments in history (I was reading an article about diplomacy 🇧🇷-🇺🇸, I realized that Brazil had a greater interest in getting closer to the USA for economic and regional power, that is, an admiration that aimed for benefits/just as the US aimed for strategic support/Mayara would support Alfred in anything, as she thought she would get support in return).
I used the word "courtship" as it was stated in this old History book (which I no longer have).  Alfred... used his charm against May. Lol.

Europe in 1914, at the beginning of the World War 1.
In 1914, Europe was on the brink of World War I. The major powers included the German Empire, Austro-Hungarian Empire, Ottoman Empire, and the Monarchy of Russia. Tensions were high due to complex alliances, nationalism, and militarization. The Triple Entente (France, Russia, and the United Kingdom) and the Triple Alliance (Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy initially) were key alliances, but political dynamics were shifting. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo triggered a chain reaction, leading to the outbreak of World War I in August 1914.
