Sunshine pushes the seeds into their little cups of dirt, wriggling happily where she’s sat on top of the workbench. Mountain’s favorite playlist to work to plays over the little speaker in the corner of the greenhouse, and she jabs her finger into the soil in time to the music. A cool breeze seeps in from the open doors, fresh and floral spring air intermittently cutting through the humidity as they work together to prep herbs and pepper plants. It’s easy; no place she’d rather be. Sunshine croons along with the rich tenor voice of the song, tail thumping against the leg of the table. 

The song fades out and another one begins, the bass plucking out a simple two note rhythm. Mountain perks up from his soil mixing station, looking over to Sunny with a goofy grin on his face. She knows the song, and his routine to it, but it doesn’t make her any less giddy. He sways his hips when the guitar comes in, walking over to her as he snaps his fingers perfectly on beat, miming the drum opening and crooning (slightly off key but still on beat):

I’ve got sunshi-i-ine . . . on a cloudy da-a-ay. He holds his hands out to her. When it’s cold outsi-i-ide, I-I’ve got the month of May. His hands are gritty as she takes them, hopping off the bench and smiling big. 

I. Guess. You’d. Say. He leans in, pressing their noses together. What. Can. Make. Me feel this wa-a-y? He grabs her by the waist, pulling out a giggle as he pulls her into the middle of the room, right into a patch of dappled afternoon sun.

My gi-i-irl . . . talkin’ ‘bo-out my gi-i-irl.

My girl! Sunny jumps in. I’ve got soooo much ho-oney, the bees envy me. She mimes the trumpets in the background with fingers in front of her mouth.

I’ve got a sweeter so-o-ong, Mountain continues, than the birds in the tre-ees. 

We-e-ell. I. Guess. You’d. Say. He lifts her up by her bum, bouncing her to the words as he sings them into her jawline. What. Can. Make. Me feel this wa-a-y? 

Sunshine giggles ferociously and kicks her feet. His scruffy beard tickles her neck and she squeals: “Mount!” 

My gi-i-irl . . . talkin’ bout my gi-i-irl. The earth ghoul spins her around and peppers her in kisses—big, noisy ones that tickle her skin even more. His voice cracks as he tries to hit the high notes on the ooh’s, to which Sunny shakes her head at him, presses their foreheads together, and teasingly sings the correct notes against his lips. He chuckles and pecks at her lips. The instrumental bridge slows them down, and Mountain places her back down onto the ground. But he doesn’t let her go, taking her hands instead and pushing and pulling them in alternating directions with a silly flair. 

“How’re you so perfect, my sweet, sunshine-y girl?” he asks her.

Sunny rolls her eyes and smiles. “Do you like me or something?” she jests. 

“Maybe just a little.” He lifts one of her hands and kisses her knuckles. A little olive blush graces his cheeks, and it’s the cutest thing she’s ever seen. 

Sunshine tugs her hand back when he doesn’t stop kissing it, yanking him back to their task. “Come on, loverboy, we’ve got seeds to plant, yeah?”

“Do you want to switch for a bit? I know that,” he gestures to her stack of seedling trays, “gets tedious after a while.”

“You just want to stare at my ass bending over the soil bags.” 

Mountain just shrugs. “Guilty.”

chapter 5: til the earth starts to crumble and the heavens roll away (i'm yours)

The last leg of the Re-Imperatour doesn't go quite as expected. But that's alright.

The incredible @ghuleh-recs drew art for this chapter, and I cannot believe I managed not to gush about it for four weeks. (well, I did tell one irl friend. but anyways) Thank you so much, Liss, it is amazing and I've been staring at it for weeks.

The band spends two sold-out nights in Los Angeles. Papa pulls the ghouls aside, a meeting hours before set-up for the first Ritual, gathering them into something like their pre-show huddle.

"I got word from the Clergy. These two are to be filmed," he informs them. "I want you at your best the next two nights. I know it is short notice, but I have faith in you. Perform your best, play it up. Make it look good for the cameras, sì?"

The ghouls all nod, grinning at one another.

Despite having come out of their shell, Aeon's still quiet when they want to be. They perform, play it up, soaking up the audiences' attention, but most of all, they watch.

I was looking through old art and I realized I never showed this before- but I have a Ghoulette OC / Sona cause why not 💁, Her name is Kailani (injuries on her body are NOT IRL injuries, they are just based on fictional ideas for her character design & backstory!!) (Also ignore the shadows are in different positions. I was tired)

I based her to be the clergy's catering ghuleh when big events occur, such as; ceremonies, funerals, parties, celebrations, etc.

We're getting there slowly but surely on the costume! ❤ This is without makeup, my contacts or my fangs though.

Still waiting on my contacts in the mail and I'm going to get my fangs today. The makeup I already have, it's just not Halloween yet! But say hello to Sister of Sin Ghoul bc honestly I had a kind of interesting take on it.

(Please excuse the awful explanation below)

So, I've been thinking of a concept for this costume for a while now and I really believe that ghouls are pure towards God for most of their lives, living as regular Nuns in a convent or maybe they're a higher-ups, more respected priest. Something traumatic happens to them during their lifetime-- maybe a challenge given to them by Satan-- and they turn their backs on God.

God, in turn, punishes them and makes them into beasts- ghouls- to be feared by other people and set an example for those of the faith so hopefully no one turns their back again. The ghouls ridden and pushed away are invited by Papa Nihil and the clergy to join them, and are reaccepted into another group.

It's still something I'm working on- explaining to others why tf I'm wearing a nun costume AND a nameless ghoul mask- but I'm getting there and hopefully this is interesting to someone.

Hey, Ghuleh! Did you ever participated in sociological research as an interviewee? Would you agree to do this if you were asked? I'm just thinking about my bachelor thesis on ficwriters and test the water...

I have been a research participant before! It’d really depend for something fandom related though—even if I’m not really a dc writer or anything, I’ve written just enough problematic stuff to be wary about outing myself, and I have some irl reasons to be extra concerned about privacy and cybersecurity, so it’d have to be a lot more anonymous than what I’m used to for me to even consider it.

Lmao, Mr Ghuleh laughed a lot at this. Also his edgy-teenage-boy commentary after I explained Skeptic to him (he's anime-only) was that he, like Skeptic, does enjoy 'making people act like puppets and dance on strings and do unwilling things.'

You're not entirely wrong, though--he's 6'3" and pretty lanky so he's got a similar build to both of those dudes, and he's got kind of fluffy messy hair like Shigaraki. And outside of the physical characteristics, he and Shig have a lot in common. Angry nerdy gamer boys who want to destroy society, etc. I really do love a tall, awkward man.
