What's a Grand Design and what's it got to do with comics? Well it's a creator takes a property and makes a single (fine, maybe two or three) issue(s) comic covering the entire history of them. So here I did the jokey version starring an (offpanel) Dave working on a new project.

Based on the stats I found, the Beano has been on the go for 84 years. So doing some maths, dropping an issue a week, that's somewhere around 4300 plus issues by today's reckoning. Add in about 219 different strips across the years, that'd be a big project regardless who undertakes it...

Actual Grand Design comics are the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Incredible Hulk Grand Designs. Also there's a couple of unofficial ones kicking around inclyding an Image Comics one. Fascinating reads.

Love his Doom - maybe Scioli channels Kirby better than any other artist going.

My take on Coco Pommel for the 1920s AU!

As a Korean-American immigrant and designer fresh out of university, Carol works tirelessly as an apprentice for the fashion house, Polomare, in hopes of joining the prestigious fashion scene of New York City. Unfortunately, due to Polomare’s unsavory business model of imitating the more innovative houses of Europe, she finds herself unfulfilled and desperate for new opportunities.

Grand Design and back to some nonsense! What is a Grand Design? What are they in comic terms? And who on earth is Chris on about?

Basically, it's where a comic creator, usually one who does the art and the writing, does a comic project wherein they chronicle the entire history of a character or team in a condensed format. Two or three issues or something.

Only 3 and a half Grand Designs listed here are real. One is probably too big to be real and the rest... probably will never happen.
