favorite color: blue! but specifically, like, light-supersaturated-yellow-undertones-blue. blue himalayan poppy kind of blue (see below). tumblr "post now" kind of blue. clear summer skies kind of blue. not navy/baby/cadet/royal (yes i'm unreasonable levels of intense about this. i don't hate navy/baby/cadet/royal blues but i prefer a lot of other colors over them and feel very maligned when i say my favorite color is blue and ppl assume it's that. anyways.)

Neil Young’s “Old Man” Goes Full Circle …

… perfect for a “Teacher in Transition”
Before I go any further, the title of this article doesn’t infer in any shape, form or fashion that I accept any personal identification as “old.” I hold true to my code of never participating in any unctuous old man talk, not relinquishing the middle age label for at least three more years, and then I give not a damn what other folks might label me. Age is purely a state of mind; but I’m not blind, I am getting older. C’est la vie. My preferences will not change, my personality will still be …uh, loud and I shall not conform.
Clear? Now, there you go; I can now elaborate on my title and the songwriter Neil Young’s masterpiece of music, of which he has many, “Old Man.” I’ve been a devotee of Neil’s music for decades, be it his solo work, with Harvest or CSNY; all his music strikes a deep chord in my spirit. It’s very personal and when I hear a song or two, I’m inspired to pick up my guitar and pick a few of his songs …far from his level of talent, but with all of the emotion. Fear not I’m not charging any cover fee, like it or leave it I suppose. That being said, his song, “Old Man,” has what I think is a universal connection to we human beings regardless of our age.
When I started playing this particular tune in my late twenties, I didn’t clearly see the similarities between a man in his twenties and an older gentleman. You gotta consider at that tender age my life experiences were few, my wisdom limited and my maturity wasn’t nearly as prolific as it is at fifty seven. Not bragging about being wiser than the next guy, but am very aware of my dummy mindset of twenty eight and how much I’ve learned since those years. I see much more in the song now a days. With time being so fleeting, I feel like both of the characters in Young’s song; as if I’ve come full circle like the singer of the lyrics.
You have to think that the young man in the song was wise beyond his years or has talked with the old man at length and picked up some advice. It is the largest of short comings being young, that being an unwillingness to listen to elders. Younger folks have a skewed perception of time: when they come across a person over the age of thirty, that person is old and was probably born that age. I should’ve listened more, but I guess I picked up some wisdom, I see myself in both people in the song. The young and old men both yearn for a love of devotion and experiences in life that are genuine. I detect a slap at materialism being a balm for life’s struggles and an understanding that time flows quickly and few superficial moments stand the test of that flowing movement of time.
This concept is an essential realization that if learned as a young man is like gold; if learned during the hectic halcyon days of career and parenting, then you’re not immune to open mindedness; if as an elder, then better late than never. The concept? We all simply want to love and be loved, and we want our life to have some meaning. Regardless of the age, it is what we seek, we just don’t know to attain that goal or know what fails to satisfy. At twenty eight, the twenty four year old in the song was me, but I didn’t recognize the older one. At fifty seven, I see I am both of them and I’m still need someone to love me the whole day through. I still want life to be filled with things that won’t get lost. If you don’t dig Uncle Neil, so be it; but wisdom is where you find it. Listen to the older folks …

You're the Suicide Squad's getaway driver and you're got a serious crush on their commanding officer, Rick Flag.
You were what one might call a liability in the operation. You weren’t a soldier under Amanda Waller’s thumb, and you weren’t a prisoner that she could threaten. You were purely there for the thrill at first. But you kept coming back for him. Rick Flag. The commanding officer of your dreams, a real hero. You weren’t sure if you idolized him or wanted to fuck him. Maybe it was a bit of both.
But as you sat in the car and eyed up the team sprinting out of the building, you skipped to your getaway song - Brianstorm by Arctic Monkeys - and revved the engine.
“Punch it, Baby!” Harley cackled as the three prisoners (plus Rick) slammed themselves into your vehicle.
You didn’t need to be told twice.
You thought it over as you narrowly evaded enemy trucks and sped down a dirt road. You were technically working for the law, so they shouldn’t need a getaway car, but they always were getting themselves into tight spots so you supposed it made sense.
It was a few minutes of beating drums, wild guitar solos, and Harley’s cackles as the playlist continued (House of the Rising Sun by the Animals came on just as you dared to slow down). You finally looked over to your right, and raised an eyebrow.
“You doing alright, Colonel?” You took stock of the dark, wet blood covering the left side of his face and the way he was cradling his right fist.
“Never better, darlin,” he offered you a signature smirk and you gave a nod before turning back to the road. You were on a main stretch now, paved and full of other vehicles. You’d likely lost your pursuers but it was your job to get away from them, so you kept an eye on the horizon behind you.
“How you always seem to be in the right place at the right time blows my mind, kid,” Boomer huffed a relieved laugh from the backseat.
“That’s sort of my job,” you replied in kind, smirking into the rearview mirror as you pulled onto the highway that would take you straight back to Belle Reve.
“You don’t talk about your job much though, I noticed,” he pushed and you rolled your eyes. You didn’t talk about yourself, and you didn’t talk about how you got into the getaway business.
“I like to have an air of mystery,” you caught the amused smile Rick tried to hide and brushed your hair back out of your eyes.
“What I’m wonderin,” he continued as if you hadn’t spoken, his accent coming through as he leaned forward through the gap between you and Rick. “Is how a pretty young thing like you got involved with a cold hearted bitch like Amanda Waller.”
You tightened your grip on the wheel (hopefully imperceptibly), and offered a light smile over to him.
“We’ve all got a past, Boomerang Man. Mine didn’t land me in prison, but I’m still here working for you weirdos,” you laughed and signaled your exit towards the Louisiana based metahuman prison.
“I’ll get your story some day, sweet cheeks, you’ll see,” he leaned back as you showed your identification to the guard and pulled into the penitentiary.
After you let the three prisoners off at their dropoff location (like a bunch of kindergarteners going to school), you pulled up to the employee parking area.
“You sure you’re alright?” You were quieter this time, worriedly glancing over at Rick again now that you were alone.
“Don’t you go worrying about me, pretty girl,” he pulled out all the stops with the cute pet name and the thousand megawatt smile, eyes warm and inviting. You were a goner, and you immediately dropped the subject. “I’ll see you in the debrief room,” you sighed after he’d closed the door and pulled the vehicle into your spot.
Another day, another debrief with that fucking psychopath Waller.
You smoothed down your jeans and t-shirt, you might work for the (wo)man, but you weren’t about to dress like a stuck up business person, or like a prison guard. You were too young for that bullshit.
“Baby,” Amanda Waller greeted you as you passed her into the meeting room. You hid your smirk, as you always did, when you took your seat. You’d forged all of your documentation upon taking this job, knowing that you didn’t want this woman knowing anything about your personal life. She didn’t know your real name, hell, she might not even know that Baby was your pseudonym. You sort of felt bad that you hadn’t ever told Rick your name, but you couldn’t risk it.
The debrief was a mess. You’d gotten out with the information the team went in for, but two out of the four of them were injured. Including the Colonel.
“Seems like the only person doing their job here is the fucking chauffer,” Waller spat before turning her eyes on a still-bloodied Rick Flag. “You can do better than this,” she spoke quietly before walking out. The others emptied out, leaving you leaning back in your chair, cotton candy pink Barbie™ t-shirt nearly glowing in the fluorescent lighting.
“I think you’re going to give her an aneurysm. She doesn’t know your identity and you don’t follow the dress code,” Rick had his eyes closed at the end of the long table, but he somehow knew you were alone in there together. You bit your lip. So she knew ‘Baby’ was a pseudonym. Good to know.
“She can’t get rid of me, she needs me,” you shrugged, nonchalant, but this was the wrong answer and you knew it immediately. You’d been working with Rick long enough to see the telltale signs of stress. Tightened shoulders, biceps bulging in his uniform, that vein struggling at his throat.
“You should be out there living your life, Baby,” his eyes shot open, darker than you’d ever seen them. “You shouldn’t be working yourself to death for Amanda Waller. Not like me and these guys. You don’t have a reason to be here,” you looked down, picking at the skull ring on your middle finger. You did have a reason. You were addicted to the feeling of being near Rick. You were obsessed with the way he spoke to you, the way he leaned in close when he was joking around with you, the way his eyes lit up when you made him laugh.
“I’m not about to tell you my life story in an audio and visually recorded meeting room,” you finally spoke, tone harsher than you intended. You stood, turned away from him and towards the door, your voice carrying as you exited. “You’re gonna have to buy me a drink if you want to get anything out of me.”
You didn’t look back to see the slack-jawed look on his face as you sauntered out of the debrief room.
You were in the deep swamp lands of Central Florida this time. Not your favorite place to be. You were blasting the air conditioning in the car as Stick Up by grandson blasted through the car stereo, your favorite angry song to listen to. This wasn’t a job you wanted to be on, but you had a contract and you were making money, and you got to work with Rick again, so it was alright. But it was a new team. Harley was out of jail and Boomer was injured from a prison fight. They were the two people you normally worked with other than Rick.
You had a gut feeling that something was going to go down, but you didn’t know what.
“Start the car!” one of the new members shouted and you frowned. The car was on already. But whatever, you shifted into Drive and waited for Rick and Co. to make it to the car. Only it was just the one guy. He hopped into the backseat and stared at you with wide eyes.
“What are you doing, get us out of here!” He was shouting but you aggressively put the car into Park.
“Where’s Rick? Where’s the rest of the team?”
“Dude, get us out of here!” The man was clearly panicking, and you glanced over at the building the team were supposed to infiltrate, biting your lip.
“Baby, why aren’t you moving?” Waller asked in your ear.
“It’s just the circus freak dude, no Rick, and no team members,” you replied calmly. “What are my orders?”
“Get us out!” The circus freak dude in question (you didn’t bother to ask his name), was bemoaning your existence from the backseat and you snapped. You jerked the center console open and pulled out your gun, pointing it back at him.
“Shut your mouth, or I’ll shut you up myself,” you put all of your fear, rage, and contempt into your glare, staring down the psycho prisoner just enough to put the fear of a woman into him, and he backed down.
“Colonel Flag is alive in there, but he’s the last one. Get in there, pick him up, and get out,” you grinned, shark-like at Waller’s voice. You could do that. You revved the engine, put the car into Drive, and hauled ass towards the building. You tuned out the moaning and wailing from the backseat and flicked the switch that activated your enhanced shields. With that in place, you drove straight towards the brick building at full speed. You could do this. You could do this. You hyped yourself up and didn’t flinch when the car made impact with the wall, immediately breaking through and skidding into a large open room. You looked around, assessing the group of men with guns pointing towards a closed door. Rick must be in there. You flipped another switch, this one with a gun sticker above it, and pulled at the steering wheel to aim the guns that came out of the front of the car. When all of the men finally turned towards you, you opened fire on them.
You’d killed for Waller before, usually by hitting people with the car, and while this was thrilling, you’d never had to actually use a gun on someone before. When they were all down, you pulled the car up, trying to ignore the crunching of bodies under the tires and opened the passenger side window.
“Get in the fucking car, Flag,” you screeched, and the door creaked the tiniest bit open. Rick peeked his head out, looked around for a hot second before locking eyes with you, and walked over before putting his ass in the passenger seat.
“I didn’t know the car had a gun in it,” he muttered, scratching at the back of his neck.
“Oh she has several,” the circus dude piped up from the back, and Rick side eyed you before promptly yelling at the other for leaving him behind. You took that as your cue to get the fuck out of there.
“You haven’t said anything in two hours,” Rick finally said as you entered Louisiana. He’d been on the phone with Waller for a while and then writing his debrief up on his phone.
“I’ve never shot anyone before. It’s a tad stressful,” you didn’t let on how nerve-wracking it had been to think you’d lost him, but you especially didn’t let on how freaked out you were about opening fire on a group of over a dozen men. You shrugged and kept your eyes on the road. He nodded in understanding. You didn’t want to talk about it. You appreciated his silence. When you finally dropped the circus dude off you had about six minutes before making it back to Rick’s dropoff.
“Baby?” He asked as you slowed down for a stop sign. You hummed in question, but he put his hand over yours, and you kept your foot on the brake as he shifted the car into park. You looked over at him, a frown on your face until he reached out and cupped your jaw with one calloused palm. His thumb brushed over your bottom lip and it felt like time wasn’t passing anymore.
“Thank you for coming back for me,” he murmured, and damn you thought he might kiss you. He didn’t, though. He tucked a stray piece of hand behind your ear, the feel of his fingertips caressing your neck made you shiver, and he smirked at the sight. It suddenly dawned on you.
He knew exactly what he did to you. He knew exactly how he was making you feel. That turned you the fuck on. He was teasing you.
“I think I’d like to take you out for that drink tonight, darlin. Maybe you’ll give me a good story. Maybe I’ll finally get your name,” he was so close to you, and god but you wanted to kiss him. But as you leaned in, he leaned back with a growing grin.
“Who knows, maybe you’ll get what you want, too,” he whispered before sitting back in his seat. “I’ll grab you after the debrief,” and that was him dismissing your advances until a later time. So, you put the car into Drive and pulled up to his drop off location. Luckily it had taken all day to get back to Belle Reve, so you’d only have to wait for the debrief to be over and it would be around eight at night. You’d finally get a drink with Rick tonight. You smiled to yourself as you pulled the car into your spot. Things would be changing.

SYNOPSIS:   Karen and Claire spend the evening at The Triangle nightclub and she meets Andrew Ma, her boyfriend. Although he is a musician, the name of his band has Claire thinking that there may be more to him than meets the eye.

  CHAPTER 62
 “Hey Claire! We’re here,” Karen exclaimed enthusiastically as the two girls’ taxicab pulled up outside the hottest nightspot in town, The Triangle nightclub.  
Getting out of the cab, Claire took in her surroundings, and the club appeared to be a refurbished warehouse in a trendy area of Hong Kong. It was a sleek modern three storey building with a triangular shaped roof with steel beams intersected in the same shape jutting out under the roof line. A large neon sign graced the front of the building again in a triangular shape advertising the nightclub’s name which blinked on and off at intervals alluding to what the premises was used for.  It was very impressive and the glows from the muted ground lighting led the way to where two burley bouncers were standing vetoing those who wanted entrance to the establishment.
The two women excitedly made their way toward the club and joined the line of patient patrons cordoned off beside a succession of velvet ropes that stretched along the footpath. The vibe was already lively for those waiting to gain entry and Claire could only imagine that inside would be similar.  Several couples started hugging each other in excitement as the queue began to move forward happy that they were getting closer to the entrance.  There were beautiful young girls dressed in provocative mini dresses eager to enter and see what conquests the night would bring and then there were the male patrons who could be seen eyeing off the girls in line. Karen turned to Claire, rolled her eyes and smiled as they studied the dynamics of the people queued up.  Whenever a patron was let in through the double doors, they could hear the powerful beat of the dance music blaring from inside the nightclub. Laser lights were seen rapidly changing colours in the windows as well showing that there was one heck of a party going on inside.
As Karen and Claire edged closer to the front of the queue, it was obvious that The Triangle enforced a dress code to ensure that a certain type of clientele was in attendance at the venue.  All the hip young Hong Kong clubbers were dressed to impress as too were the two friends. The Triangle certainly was the place to be seen as was evidenced by people being turned away. They noticed the crestfallen looks of one couple banned for wearing sneakers and jeans who were denied entry to the club by the door bouncers.
“Are you excited?” Karen asked enthusiastically glancing at Claire.
“I am.  Thanks for asking me.”
“This is the trendiest new nightclub in town and although it’s only been opened a little while it’s busy every night.”
“How do you know all that Karen?”
She leaned in and smiled spiritedly, “Because my boyfriend is in the band playing tonight.”
“Ah. So that’s why where here? To hear your boyfriend’s band?  And here I thought this was just going to be a girls’ night out,” Claire laughed in response.
“Of course, that’s why Claire, but not the only reason,” she answered with a bemused grin on her face, “And it’s because … I really, really want you to meet him.”
“Well then, I hope they let us inside so that I can meet ...?”
“Andrew ... Andy Ma.”
“What does he do in the band?”
Karen gave Claire an enigmatic smile. “He plays the guitar and other things.”
“Sounds intriguing. Is he any good at these other things?”
“What?” Karen replied a little taken aback by her questions.
“Is he a good guitar player?” Claire clarified looking at her friend.
“I think he is, but I’ll let you be the judge of that once we are inside.”  
Since they had been standing in line, the queue had grown longer and stretched as far as the eye could see, nonetheless they gradually moved closer to the front of the line as they waited to enter.  Finally, it came to their turn.  When they approached the two muscular security bouncers at the main door who were screening those who they would let enter into the nightclub, the two women smiled broadly.
“Hello ... Jimmy.”
The very large, stoic man showed little emotion. “Hey Karen ... You here to see Andy again?”
“Yeah ... but this time it’s a surprise for my friend.”
The bouncer gave Claire the once over as he ran a handheld  metal detector over her body,  then did the same to Karen.
“Sorry ladies but I need to see some I.D.  Not you Karen but your friend here ... I will need to see your identification lady. Legal reasons you know.”
“Sure.”
“I need to see your phone too.”
“Why?” Claire requested for explanation.
“We have a strict no photo policy in order to protect the clubbing experience of our patrons.”
Rummaging in her purse she drew out her driver’s licence and her phone.  The bouncer gave the licence a perfunctory glance but he placed some tape over the smart phone camera lens before giving it back to her.
“Is that all?”
‘Yes, you are free to enter now.  Enjoy yourselves and Andy’s performance.”
“Thanks Jimmy:
“Come on Claire. Let's go in and have some fun."
“Yes let’s.” Claire replied as the two friends made their way inside The Triangle nightclub for an evening of revelry.

Claire’s eyes had to adjust to the darkness after first entering the club and when they did, she slowly glanced around inside. The two girls stood on a platform overlooking the main area with a curved stairwell leading down to the main dance floor.  The interior of The Triangle was grand, opulent and so massive. It was very impressive and certainly was a trendy and upscale establishment with luxurious furnishings and expensive décor.  
It featured a sunken dance floor and upstairs there was a balcony with large banquette style booths to sit and chill in. There was another grand double staircase leading up to the balcony plus the one down to where people were dancing, awesome lights and mirror balls hung from a high ceiling, there was a photo booth, a DJ section and a large stage where a live band was playing.   Claire wondered if that was Karen’s boyfriend’s band, if so then they had the crowd in the palm of their hands.  There was also a long lit up bar that took up one whole wall and a smaller, more intimate bar on the balcony level.
Obviously, it was the place for celebrities, movie stars and the well-heeled to hang out.  What stood out too were the neon signs aligned on the walls and the large signage with The Triangle name emblazed in lights.  There were multiple levels for action and interaction, and Claire noticed that patrons were jiving to the music in the dimly lit interior. It appeared that Jonathon Randall had done his homework and The Triangle was a very lucrative nightclub for it was obvious that business was booming. It was very crowded tonight and clearly, he had a great investment that would more than likely bring in a considerable amount of revenue.
It was evident too, that The Triangle had a fast-paced, loud, and raucous atmosphere. The music was even louder than what they had heard whilst waiting outside and seemed to reverberate through Claire’s whole body.  The pulsing beat of the bass frequencies coming through the huge sound system almost felt like her spine was turned into a vibrator that shook her entire body. Making a quick summation of her surroundings, she noted several things that stood out. The blaring bass, amplified through the speakers from the guitarist on stage seemed to make the room shake as dancing bodies tangled together.  She also noticed that people had crowded the bar area as well where guys were buying a few drinks to muster up the courage to speak to a hot girl. If some of the patrons were taking drugs it was difficult to say given the emotional high and happy atmosphere that was evident as soon as they had walked in the door.
Karen too, looked around at those gathered, then she glanced at Claire exclaiming happily, “Electrifying isn’t?”
The music was loud, very loud and the two girls could hardly hear themselves speak.  “What?”
Laughing, she repeated her words a little louder this time, “I said it’s exciting.”
“It is,” Claire replied leaning in and nearly shouting her answer at Karen’s ear.

Making their way down the staircase into the hub of the action, they were surrounded by bodies everywhere on the dance floor and the pounding rhythm of the music from the live band had the crowd pumping with excitement. The revellers seemed to be having the time of their lives as they either danced on the different levels of The Triangle to the pulsating live music, or stood listening to the band play on the stage and moshing with arms thrusting in the air and head-banging to their favourite songs of the five-man group.
You couldn’t really see the dance floor as it was wall to wall people bopping to the rhythm. The whole scene seemed so exciting and couples on the dance floor were engaged in all types of dancing rituals from the sexual mating of attraction to the uninhibited dance movements like no one was watching them. Beautiful women and handsome men were checking out each other no doubt canvassing for a sexual partner for later in the night, while others were trying to engage in conversation in some of the quiet areas set apart around the dance floor.
The atmosphere was electric.  Laser lights illuminated the dance floor, and light reflected off the large mirror covered disco balls hanging from the ceiling, danced across the walls.  Multicoloured strobe lighting, rigged to follow the music, blinked on and off while changing colours to the beat of the music.  The light shows only intensified the experience of the revellers, for those dancing looked like they were moving in slow motion. Moving light beams flashed from the stage and the smoke billowing from the smoke machine only complicated visibility.  However, there was just enough light for Claire to make out faces in the crowd and she adjusted her glasses to activate her surveillance of the patrons for Fergus’ benefit back at Section One. But as yet, she could not make out anyone of significance.

Karen and Claire cautiously made their way through the crowd and across the dance floor as best they could. They were jostled from time to time from those dancing but they managed to make headway through the crowd if they stayed on the periphery.   Karen lead the way, however, in the loud atmosphere it was nearly impossible to hear anything but the music and a few random snippets of shouted conversation from each other. Tapping Claire on the shoulder Karen pointed to some seating across the room.  “See that empty booth over there,” she practically shouted as her voice was drowned out in the noise.
“Yeah.”
“If we get separated … I’ll meet you there. Okay?”
Claire nodded that she had understood her instructions as she unobtrusively cast her eyes around the venue ever vigilant.  She also activated a camera hidden in her necklace, to provide Section One with a broader view of the interior of the club.  She surveyed the crowd for anyone that stood out as well as noting where the security guards were posted around the venue.  Glancing up to the balcony she noticed members of the security team watching inconspicuously over the clubbers below.  However, the two women unfortunately did get separated from each other in the crowd and Claire got swept up in the revelry taking place on the dance floor. She felt a hand reach out of nowhere from between the gyrating bodies, cop a feel of her derriere, and then vanish as quickly as it appeared.  If the move was intentional or accidental it still caused her to glance around to see if anyone looked suspicious.
Casing the crowd for any anomalies, Claire’s nose was assaulted by the familiar smell of alcohol, tobacco smoke, perfume and sweat from the dancers packed tightly together.  She continued to make her way through the crowded throng to the other side of the room, but another douche bag materialized out of thin air. Grabbing her hands, the man twirled her around the dance floor then held her flush to his chest while pressing Claire’s arms against the sides of her body.  Holding her tight, he started rubbing his crotch against her backside.  Unfazed, Claire merely dropped her weight down swiftly by mimicking a fast squat.  Then she shifted her hips to the side and using her open palm struck hard and fast to his groin area until he released his grip.  Lunging forward slightly, she quickly threw her elbow back to the man’s belly and he doubled over in pain.
He let go and grabbing his stomach cowered away, muttering under his breath, “Bitch!”

Making it to the other side of the dance floor, Claire saw Karen waving to her and made her way over to where she was waiting.  As she sat down, Karen nodded towards where the band was playing on stage.
Leaning her head close to Claire’s so that she could hear her every word, she asked, “Do you see that tall, good looking guy singing and playing the guitar?”
“Which one? ... There are five of them Karen.”
The handsome one obviously.  The one with the long, dark hair and moustache. He’s the lead vocalist. Well? What do you think?” She asked inquisitively.
“Not my type but whatever floats your boat,” Claire replied laughing.
“Well I think he’s adorable.”
“That’s all that matters then.”
“I’m sure you’ll like him too, when you meet him.” While they waited for the band to finish their bracket, they watched the patrons having a great time until the band took a well-earned break.  However, the music didn’t stop, neither did the partying and dancing. There was a DJ booth located at the opposite end of the dance floor.  Some of the crowd took this chance to have a rest and get a drink while others filed over to where the nightclub’s resident Disc Jockey began to play a mix of songs of the most broadcasted tunes from the Top 40 as well as recorded dance and pop music through the powerful PA system.  The replacement band began setting up their instruments while Andy Ma’s band packed theirs away.
While the crowd was engaged with the DJ, the other guys in the band left the stage to meet up with several eager groupies hanging around trying to catch their attention, or girlfriends who were waiting for them. When Karen’s guy had finished placing his guitar on its stand, he came down the stairs to where she was waiting for him. Smiling she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him. Claire watched their intimate interaction as they kissed each other again.  Then with their arms around one another they headed in her direction.
“Claire ... this is my guy,” Karen gushed smiling up at her man then back at Claire. “Hi ... I’m Karen’s neighbour Claire.”  She smiled at the tall man thinking that they made a lovely couple. “I’m Andy. I’m the bass guitarist and lead singer.”
“So, it’s you who is responsible for that pulsating beat that had me thrumming to my bones.”
“Yep ... Guilty.” Andy replied placing his hands in the air then grinning at her.
“What’s the name of you band?”
“Dragon.”
The name made Claire do a double take, but she remained calm and said, “You’re bloody good by the way.”
“Thank you, Claire.”
She thought he was a little reticent with his answers and didn’t really look her in the eye as if he was quite shy and reserved, which was a little strange given that he was the bass guitarist and lead singer.  Usually they were more extroverted but perhaps that was just for show.  However, the name of his band gave her cause to reflect. Was there some connection there to the Rising Dragons or was it just symbolic of Chinese culture that the dragon was revered?  Either way, it was food for thought and made her look at Andy Ma in a whole new light. Did Karen know that he may be someone that was not really who he said he was?  She seemed to be besotted with him. She would hate to think that her friend had been duped by this guy, just because he was a rock star and good looking.
When he sat down Andy possessively placed his arm on the back of Karen’s chair and the looks that they were giving each other made Claire feel like a third wheel.  The two had eyes only for each other and so Claire made an excuse to give them some alone time.
“I’m going over to the bar to get a drink; can I get you guys anything?
Without taking their eyes off each other Andy said, “Thanks Claire. I’ll have a beer.”
“Me too,” Karen replied enamoured with her guy.
The message was received loud and clear that they wanted to be alone, so Claire got up to leave the booth. “Okay you two ... I’ll be back in a jiff.”

Once more she had to navigate her way through the gyrating bodies on the dance floor as she made her way to the bar. It was the fastest way across the room to the bar and this time she twirled around from time to time giving Fergus a clear view of the patrons at the nightclub. Her body moved to the rhythm of the music as more sweaty bodies brushed up against her.  Luckily, she didn’t come across the guy who had called her a bitch and she hoped that Fergus had a facial of him just in case he was a triad member.
“You getting this Claudel?” Claire whispered as she strolled over closer to the bar to order some drinks. “Yeah.” “Anything?” “No nothing yet. None of the faces that you’ve captured so far are recognizable in our system.” “Maybe Jonathon Randall’s not here tonight.” “Maybe.”
“Anything on the guy I decked?”
“Nothing showed up in our data files.  He’s an innocent.”
“Pity.”
When Claire finally arrived on the other side of the room, there were people four deep at the bar trying to hold out cash hoping that one of the bartenders noticed them and that they could order their drinks or cocktails. There were mostly men at the bar and a few attractive women were flirting with the single guys obviously enticing them to purchase more drinks and drive drink sales up. No wonder Jonathon Randall had good business acumen.  He certainly had the formula for making money.  Alcohol reduced inhibitions and it was the natural choice to boost a guy’s courage towards interactions with the fairer sex and judging by the four deep queues then this was a possibility.  They jostled each other to make their way back out from the throng of people at the bar without spilling the drinks they had paid for but sometimes with little success.
Claire, however, succeeded in returning to Karen and Andy without spilling a drop. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ The DJ had finished his session and the dancers were now milling around on the dance floor or chatting at the tables on each level. Karen, Andy and Claire engaged in polite conversation in their booth as they waited for the backup band to begin their repertoire.   When the group finally belted out a rock tune, the throbbing beat of the music was so ear-splitting and pounding that they could barely hear themselves speak.
Leaning towards her friend, Claire shouted trying to be heard above the din.  “This rock music sure is deafening isn't it?” But she still wasn’t heard.
“What?  What did you say?” Karen asked. “Never mind.  It’s not important,” Claire replied giving her a wry smile.
However, Karen wasn’t paying much attention to her or the band, as all of her attention was focused on her boyfriend.   Andy Ma and her friend sat huddled together oblivious to everything and everyone but each other as he whispered sweet nothings in Karen’s ear.  
Sitting back in the booth, Claire unobtrusively scanned the room this way and that, to give Fergus another 180-degree view of the setting.  Many couples were still dancing while others were sitting with friends relaxing and having drinks. Out of the corner of her eye Claire noticed several young Chinese men acting a little suspiciously who may be a possible lead to Jonathon Randall but it seemed that nothing was forthcoming.
Taking a little sip of her drink of whisky, she immediately thought of Jamie.   This was his favourite drink and she could recall the way she loved to watch as he savoured the taste on his lips. That thought then turned to the taste of his lips on hers and Claire suddenly had a feeling of melancholy wash over her.  She missed him terribly and wished he was here now doing the things that Andy was doing to Karen. The sound of his voice as his warm breath caressed her ear was just a memory that she desperately wanted to repeat.  The lilt of his beautiful Scottish brogue when he’d contacted her on his return to Section yesterday was better than nothing, but she wanted him here with her.  She wanted him so very much that she hurt and she was a little jealous of the intimacy between her friend and her beau.  “Oh Jamie … I wish you were here,” the voice in her head repeated again and again until she had to forcibly give herself a little shake to bring her back to reality.
She needed an opportunity to nonchalantly broach the subject of the owner of The Triangle, Jonathon Randall.

Claire’s patience was rewarded when she finally found an opening when Andy Ma eventually turned away from his girlfriend and reached for his drink. He took a mouthful of his beer and looked over at Claire as she took another sip of her whisky.   Fortunately, there was a little lull in the music, so she took the chance to ask him a few innocuous questions and to find out a little more about him.
“Karen is always talking about what a great guy you are Andy and I can see why.”
“Thanks Claire.  I think she is wonderful too.”
“You’re a terrific musician too.   So, is this your first gig at the nightclub?”
“No, the band is the resident one now.  Jonathon Randall liked us so much that he offered us a permanent booking if we wanted it. We can still do a tour from time to time so it is a win-win for all the boys.”
“Is he the owner?”
“Yeah.”
“I was told at the bar, that the man who owns the nightclub is cute and … very good looking.”  
“Who? Jonathon Randall?  I don’t think I’d call him cute … good looking maybe … but girls might think that.”  He answered with a chuckle.
“Does he ever come here?” He took another swallow of his drink.  “Sometimes.” “Oh … Is he here tonight?” Claire inquired enthusiastically.
“No, he’s not ... He’s having a party next Saturday night, so, I guess he is off planning it tonight instead.” Claire leaned towards him as if she was to tell him something that shouldn’t be eavesdropped.  She lowered her voice.  “I’ve also heard that he’s rich ... very rich. Is that true?”
Andy smiled smugly as he sat back, “What do you think?”
“I think that he probably makes a packet from this nightclub. Karen said it is full every night.”
“Yeah ... you could say that! I guess he’s just a savvy business man.”
“I’d love to meet him.  I’m unemployed at the moment.  Perhaps he might give me a job.”

Unfortunately, Andy Ma didn’t have a chance to reply as that little lull disappeared as the band once again began to crank up the volume of their latest rendition of an AC/DC rock and roll classic.  The infectious beat of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap soon had the crowd jumping again and even Claire pumped her hands in the air along to the music.  Andy and Karen joined in the merriment too as the crowd went wild for the song and screamed along with the chorus with the lead singer.  Then when the lead guitarist did a solo riff the crowd went nuts.
The pulsating rock music continued for several more songs until the band finished their set and also took a well-earned break to make way for the return of Andy Ma’s band, Dragon.  Once the music stopped, there was excited chatter from those on the dance floor who had been listening to the previous band playing. Flushed patrons made their way to the bar for a much-needed drink, while others returned to where they were sitting for a breather before they would be back on the dance floor once more when Andy’s band returned to the stage to play.
Once the replacement musicians had finished their session, Andy got up ready to make his way back to the stage for his band’s next bracket.  
“Sorry girls ... gotta go.  We’re up next.”  
Karen was reluctant to let him go and grabbed hold of his arm.  She raised her face to his and Andy bent down and gave her a quick kiss and a hug.  Sadly, she released her hand but trailed her fingers down his arm until she clasped his hand.  Andy pulled away and Karen slowly let go little by little until she had no choice but to let him walk away, although she tried to savour each touch until the very last moment.
He was about to move away when Claire asked eagerly, “Do you think Karen and I could get an invite to his party next Saturday?” “It’s a private function ... but I’ll see what I can do.” Claire flashed him a megawatt grin. “Wow! Thanks ... that would be great.” “Enjoy the rest of the night girls ... See ya babe!” Then turning towards Claire said, “‘Bye Claire. Nice meeting you.”
“Same Andy, ... See ya on Saturday,” she added hopefully knowing that if he could pull off an invite then she would finally meet Jonathon Randall.

Healing allies and damaging enemies: making music in League of Legends
How Sona relates to ludomusicology and performance

In the world of online games in which players choose a character with a specific skill set to represent them, game developers keep pushing the boundaries and coming up with exciting new playable characters that are based around a certain theme. In League of Legends, a five-against-five online multiplayer game, there is a total of 148 champions, each of them designed with distinguished abilities, backstories, and themes. 
In this blog post, I will be taking a look at one champion in particular: Sona, maven of the strings. Sona is characterized by music. She plays a magical instrument called the etwahl, which looks like a traditional Japanese koto, but sounds more like a harp. While playing any champion in League, players can decide themselves whether they want to use an ability or not: it all depends on the situation a player is in. This means that, in theory, a Sona player could stay silent all game, or they could make music as they wish (as the game allows them to). Most of the decisions a player makes are based on the game, however, and not on making and enjoying music. So what makes playing Sona in League of Legends musical?
Sona has a diverse set of abilities. Her automatic attacks sound like single notes on a harp. She also has four abilities: “Hymn of valor” damages enemies. “Aria of perseverance” heals and shields allies. “Song of celerity” speeds up herself and allies, and her ultimate (“crescendo)” stuns all enemies in range. When one of these abilities is cast, a chord is audible. The chords match the abilities: a quick arpeggio signals speed, while a rich major chord signifies a safe haven. 
To activate one of these abilities, the player has to press a button, after which the action happens. This is an example of Alexander Galloway’s concept of an expressive act: “These are actions such as select, pick, get, rotate, unlock, open, talk, examine, use, fire, attack, cast, apply, type, emote<1>.” Regarding Sona, the sounds are heard when she casts an ability or attacks. In Galloway’s matrix of types of game sounds, these would qualify as diegetic operator acts, which are actions initiated by the player that exist in the game world<2>. These sounds are also an example of Karen Collins’ kinesonic synchresis<3>. They are the result of a player action, like pressing a button or clicking a mouse. The immediate sound of Sona’s etwahl is the result of the player interacting with the game. In this case, Sona’s sounds could also be qualified as supradiegetic cues (sounds that exist in both the game world and the real world, usually directed to the player). The instant feedback reassures the player visually and audibly that the system works and it alerts other players that a certain ability has been cast.
There are different ways to define types of play. To do so, I am going to use the play taxonomy by Roger Caillois (explained by Roger Moseley), which first divides play into two categories: ludus and paidia. Paidia is centered around free play, whereas ludus has rules and values the player should follow. In each of the two categories, there are four more ways to divide types of play. These are agon (competition), mimicry (imagination), alea (chance) and ilinx (physiological effect)<4>. 
When playing Sona, the player is engaging in ludus: there are rules about how Sona should be played and what items and other power-ups (such as runes and summoner spells) should be used on the champion. A player is also unable to cast an ability when they do not have enough resources (mana) or when the cooldown timer is still ticking after casting. However, there are always players pushing the boundaries. There are many interesting actions and interactions in this virtual arena, this magic circle. Some players literally go out of bounds. Others disregard the competition element for a while. With regards to Sona, players have actually taken the sounds she makes and remixed those sounds. In short, Sona-play (and any other champion-play in the game) can be classified as ludus play - but players will always test the limits in a paidia manner. 
League of Legends is a competitive game where players fight against five enemies alongside four teammates. Sona will always be competing against other players, which clearly indicates the agon at play in the game. There is an option to play against NPCs, or to create a ‘custom game’, in which a player can try things out by themselves. The five-against-five online game mode, however, is by far the most popular. Other than agon, there are also significant elements of mimicry in the game. A player chooses Sona to represent themselves and to be her for a game.
People who are interested or experienced in music will probably be more likely to choose Sona as their champion, since they identify with her themes. Another reason players might choose this musical character, is because they want to identify with the themes: they want to see themselves as musical, even if they are not: “Identifying with a game character or role means to perceive oneself differently from a non-gaming situation, with one’s perceived attributes being more similar to the game character with which one identifies<5>.” So a person might not be musically gifted at all, but still wish to be. They could roleplay musical characters to fulfill that desire. Kiri Miller has found that people who play Guitar Hero feel like they have actually played music, even if they are not able to in real life: “Even though you haven’t actually put out the guitar riff, the game makes you feel like you have<6>.” This is the case, even if the performance is schizophonic, like with Sona. Her music is prerecorded and plays when the player hits just one button, which demonstrates the split between the sound and the source of the music<7>. 
Identification with a videogame character is not surprising: as Alexander Galloway puts it shortly: “one plays a game<8>.” Galloway argues that there must be a kind of action in order to interact with a game. Otherwise, it would be a static object with rules and code<9>. This is also true for music instruments. A music instrument will not produce any sound if there is no interaction between player and object. The actual movement involved in games is pressing buttons and clicking with a mouse, which is not that different from pressing the keys on a piano or saxophone. In both cases, the person is a player, and the object needs some sort of action to work. This might result in players feeling close to Sona.
This mimicry entails performance as well. Every player chooses a character to perform and embody for one game. They can choose to play aggressive, defensive, or protective. Characters can also display certain ‘emotes’, optional actions like laughing or dancing. These emotes can be used to frustrate other players or to demonstrate skill - since it takes time to press these buttons, while the emotes themselves have no in-game use - or just as a humorous gesture. This is often done with champions who have a distinctive dancing animation or laugh (like Lux). During Sona’s taunt, she holds her etwahl like an electric guitar, and, as expected, we can hear an ironic electric chord. Using ironic obnoxious movements as a seemingly sweet, protective champion can add a comic counterpoint for players to enjoy.
In the end, Sona is a small part of the group of 148 champions in League of Legends. She is only part of the game approximately 2% of the time. Players choose Sona because they identify with her, or because they want to identify as being musical. Performance plays a big part in this ordeal: identity and musical performance and actual game performance. Playing Sona is more than healing allies and damaging enemies - it is associating yourself with a musical identity during the game and after.

Viv Albertine, une éthique de l’insoumission

J’ai un goût particulier pour les livres qui traitent du désespoir que la vie domestique peut causer aux femmes. « La femme gelée » d’Annie Ernaux ou « La condition pavillonnaire » de Sophie Divry ont déclenché en moi des sentiments contrastés et exaltants. Il y a d’abord une certaine horreur suscitée par les contraintes qui enserrent les héroïnes. En parallèle, ces lectures libèrent un souffle bouillonnant, lié au fait d’imaginer en miroir une vie différente. La volonté de s’en distancier ne vient pas d’un jugement sur le mode de vie mais au contraire d’une identification très forte. Je me sens puissamment proche d’elles, un « putain ça pourrait tellement être moi » jaillit de toutes mes cellules. Et donc il y a l’admiration. Pour la force vitale dont témoigne l’état neurasthénique dans lequel l’ennui et les tâches permanentes et vides les plongent. Leur façon de s’éteindre renvoie, assez tragiquement, au fait qu’elles aspirent à tellement plus que ça.
Sorti en 2014, « De fringues, de musique et de mecs » de Viv Albertine, (ou « Clothes, clothes, clothes. Music, music, music. Boys, boys, boys », comme assénait sa mère pour résumer ses centres d’intérêt) rentre dans cette catégorie. Mais les points de résonance n’en restent pas là. Ce bouquin m’a subjuguée sur 560 pages d’affilée sans temps mort. La guitariste du groupe The Slits revient dans son autobiographie sur les années punk en Angleterre. A regret, je n’ai pas beaucoup d’accointance avec le punk (je n’aime pas trop les cris…) mais j’ai été surprise d’adorer ce que j’ai écouté des Slits. Les influences dub qui imprègnent la basse et la batterie, le côté joyeux et sale gosse, le chant délié, acrobate d’Ari Up… Comment voulez-vous ne pas être séduit au visionnage d’une telle vidéo ?

L’exercice qui consiste à décrire un moment d’émulation au sein d’une scène musicale à partir de sa propre expérience n’est pas évident. J’ai détesté “Just Kids” de Patti Smith pour la teneur de sa relation avec Robert Mapplethorpe, qui met un point d’honneur à l’entraver sous prétexte de protection - démarche qu’elle voit comme une attendrissante preuve d’amour. (On a envie de hurler DUMP HIM pendant tout le bouquin.) Mais au delà, le livre me semble échouer à rendre vivante la galerie de portrait qu’il dresse. Et c’est sur ce point précis que « De fringues… » est exceptionnel. Albertine raconte la fin des années 70 en se situant au plus près des garçons et des filles qui constituent le microcosme punk. Elle ne cite pas les noms des gens avec révérence, elle n’évoque pas les lieux en les entourant de mystique. Elle décrit des circulations et des activités qui sont celles d’une constellation d’adolescents, enflammés et en marge. Oui, il y a de la violence, oui ils vivent dangereusement vite. Mais il y a un effet désacralisant à revenir sur ce moment de l’histoire de la musique à hauteur d’individu. Le fait de s’arrêter sur les vêtements que les gens portent, sur les squats où ils vivent et répètent et sur leurs façons de communiquer (personne n’a le téléphone donc n’importe qui peut débarquer chez soi à peu près n’importe quand) ancre le récit dans des formes tangibles de sociabilités juvéniles.

Une des plus belles réussites de l’ouvrage réside dans la finesse avec laquelle Albertine restitue la personnalité de celles et ceux qui l’entourent. Il lui suffit de quelques paragraphes pour faire exister un Sid Vicious complexé et tête de nœud, ou pour donner vie à l’exubérance et la vitalité fracassante d’Ari Up, la chanteuse et fondatrice (à 14 ans…) des Slits. Ce traitement sans fard et cette acuité psychologique, Albertine se l’applique à elle-même. J’ai très rarement lu un livre en ressentant, non pas des bouffées de tendresse pour son auteur, mais de l’amour, du vrai. Un tombereau d’affection chauffée à blanc et une envie de le crier sur les toits. L’artiste restitue le temps qu’elle a passé à ronger son frein face à l’envie de faire de la musique sans jamais considérer en être capable, tant il est impossible à l’époque pour une jeune femme de s’imaginer une guitare à la main. Il y a une honnêteté brute dans la façon dont elle fait état de son hypersensibilité, des maux de ventre que ça lui cause, de son attention tourmentée aux autres et de la façon dont elle ne baisse jamais sa garde devant ceux dont elle redoute le jugement (Sid Vicious, again). L’esprit critique dont elle fait preuve n’épargne personne, ni elle-même, ni la scène à laquelle elle appartient. Si l’éthique de l’impulsion créative sans technique et l’enthousiasme autodidacte ont représenté une idée fondamentale du punk, elle rappelle que la course à la performance allait bon train et qu’il fallait démontrer une bonne dose de technicité pour être pris au sérieux. A ses yeux, le mouvement n’était pas beaucoup moins rigide qu’un autre.

La masculinité n’est pas pour rien dans ces valeurs dominantes. Personnellement, j’ai plus souvent entendu des femmes que des hommes exprimer les difficultés techniques du processus créatif dans la musique. Dans « De fringues… », ça ne loupe pas. Albertine retrace ses premiers pas à la guitare et son perçant sentiment d’imposture. Assumer ce genre de tribulation permet à l’autrice de rentrer dans le détail de la création musicale, « ce fameux stade où le son qu’on a en tête ne sort pas, avec l’excitation et la tension créative que ça suppose ». C’est à la fois passionnant et trop rare.
Ça m’a fait doucement rigoler de lire dans « Lizzy Mercier Descloux, une éclipse » de Simon Clair (une excellente lecture) qu’un certain Seth Tillett décrit les mecs de la scène no-wave comme « anti-machos » : « A la limite, nous préférions la posture de l’écorché vif fragile ou du junkie tragique ». Je veux bien croire que les codes de la masculinité se sont renouvelés depuis Led Zeppelin, mais mec dans QUEL MONDE on a vu l’ethos de l’artiste torturé participer à limiter la domination masculine et à faire une place aux meufs ? Savoir qu’Albertine a longtemps refusé d’officialiser son couple avec Mick Jones des Clash pour ne pas être vue comme la « copine de », et donc pour exister par elle-même, m’a semblé presque rassurant. Ça m’a confortée dans le fait que dans tout milieu musical, la « copine de » est une place maudite.

Après une jeunesse à cracher à la gueule du monde et à déglinguer des chambres d’hôtel, adopter un mode de vie dans la norme est une épreuve. Les pages sur sa vie de famille sont à la fois fascinantes et un peu terrifiantes. Là où le bouquin achève de me bouleverser, c’est lorsqu’Albertine narre la façon dont elle s’est réinventée, à coup de talons dans la fourmilière de la conformité domestique. Elle ne s’est pas seulement sortie du marasme, elle en a fait de l’art. Elle a nourri la musique qu’elle a composé dans la deuxième partie de sa vie d’artiste de l’apathie qu’elle a vécu. « I hate my beautiful, clean, white, pristine, neat, tidy, interior designed, architect built, minimal… shoes off ! » chante-t-elle dans Confessions of a MILF, extrait de The Vermillon Border, sorti en 2013. Après son divorce, sa vie solitaire de quinquagénaire, dotée de son espace, d’amis et de temps pour écrire et faire de la musique, m’apparaît comme un rêve. Viv Albertine constitue l’incarnation la plus punk des femmes qui trouvent dans l’âge mur une félicité qui leur a manqué pendant la majorité de leur vie. Il serait temps de ne plus attendre.

RE-VISION
We laughed, we cried, we raged against the dying of the light, which was the ending of our favorite shows. Sitcoms have been there since the dawn of tv… From a CRT television to a flat-screen to our laptops to all-powerful OTT platforms, sitcoms have come a long way. But there is always that one show, that one sitcom you can watch over and over. Whether it’s before you go to bed, during your meals, or after finishing the most boring assignment ever.
The one with a character you admire, the one whose dialogues are like your second language, you got the idea… Right! We’ve seen it so often that we are aware of all the details. So what if we tell you that now you can change it and show people your perspective. Show them how it could have been if these sitcoms were shot in this day and age with you as their interior designer. So now, you’ll have the same people as before but with the needs of today’s world.
Whenever we propose a design for our clients, we try to incorporate every requirement of them. But our ideas are based more on our experiences and less on the profiles of the users. Because well, for God’s sake we just met them!! So if we are provided the possibility of knowing our client inside out, can we now propose the best-suited design for them? (Of course, we can!)
Having said that, ARCH8 is here with yet another competition for you all, this time an interior designing competition. We shortlisted 3 most famous sitcoms of all time: Friends, Big Bang Theory, and How I Met Your Mother.

Character Sketch
A little something to help you out.
1. MONICA: Monica is a chef in her early 30s. She is obsessive about things being clean and in order. (‘ Things shouldn’t be just ‘health department’ clean, they should be ‘Monica clean.’) She likes to host gatherings and invite people over for dinners and parties. She is the ‘mother ‘ of the group and can be sometimes dominative.
2. RACHEL: She has switched jobs from being a waitress to an executive at Ralph Lauren. All her friends come to her for fashion advice. She likes to shop. Rachel is very careless (as she says,” I shouldn’t be allowed to make decisions anymore.”) She is funny, spirited but pretty self-involved. She does not easily get along with other women (“That’s OK, Girls tend to not like me”).
3. CHANDLER: Chandler is a funny guy (Jokes are his ‘thing’). Chandler works in statistical analysis and data reconfiguration but nobody knows where he works (he’s a ‘transponster’). Chandler’s generally embarrassed by his parents, his job, and his relationship status. His sense of humor helps him cope with all of these problems. He is notoriously sarcastic. He is the highest-earning member of his friends’ circle.
4. JOEY: Joey is an actor whose work can be seen in the show “Days of Our Lives”. He is a child at heart and a foodie (Joey doesn’t share food). He likes all the kitsch art. He never gets in a serious relationship. He is dim-witted but good-natured. He likes to play foosball and is a big fan of ‘Baywatch’.
5. SHELDON: Sheldon is a theoretical physicist. He lives his life with rules and regulations and is obsessed with logical reasoning. He is interested in comic books and science fiction. Sheldon comes off as a stereotypical nerd and really has no qualms about it (but he is not crazy, his mother got him tested). He is socially awkward and likes to spend most of his time at home and at work.
6. LEONARD: He is an experimental physicist. He is a huge fan of Star Wars, science fiction, and comic books. Leonard is extremely nerdy and mainly associates with people who fit this description (“12 years after high school and I’m still at the nerd table.”). He also plays the cello. He is lactose intolerant. He lives in the apartment by Sheldon’s rules and regulations.
7. TED: Call him an architect, a hopeless romantic, or a know it all, you can say that he’s the embodiment of it all. Since college, Ted has been in many toxic relationships where he was considered an outcast or “not traditionally cool” i.e dorky. Interests… telling stories, falling in love, believing in destiny, avoiding confrontation, Renaissance Faires, crossword puzzles, Star Wars, breakfast foods, show tunes, girls who play bass guitar, giving “the best” gifts, and reading serious literature. (Random girl: What made you want to be an architect? Ted: Well you know, the soul of an artist, hands of a master craftsman… it was inevitable)
8. MARSHALL: Though he is arguably the kindest member of the group, he never shies away from a spirited debate, usually shouting “Lawyered!” if (well, “when”) he wins. A lawyer who’s madly in love with his partner in crime, Lily (his fiance). Creator of a funk band called “The Funk, The Whole Funk, And Nothing But The Funk”, he is a 6’4, supernatural (i.e Bigfoot, loch ness monster, and ghost) nerd and a foodie with a passion for star wars and playing (and winning) board games.

The Proposal to be presented on One Landscape Oriented A1 Sheet. Proposals may be presented using any technique of your choice (sketches, diagrams, 3D visualizations, model photos, CAD drawings, etc.) Team code (UIC) to be mentioned on the Top Right-Hand corner of the sheet. The proposal MUST NOT include ANY INFORMATION (name, Organization, School, etc.) that may give away your identity. All text must be in ENGLISH, with a MAXIMUM of 150 WORDS for project explanation. All dimensions should be imperial or metric units.

1. What is the nature of the competition? ‘RE-VISION’ is an open idea design competition challenge that is open for students, professionals & any individual with a creative mind.
2. Who can participate in the competition? Architecture students, Architects, Interior Designer, Civil engineers & anyone with creativity can participate in the competition.
3. How many members can be a part of a team? A team can have a maximum of 3 members. You can also participate individually.
4. Will every participant get a certificate of participation? Yes, every participant who submits a panel will receive an e-certificate.
5. What should be done in case a payment mode is not available in a particular country? We request the participants to write about the issue at [email protected] to get other payment options in such a case. We will send all possible payment methods.
6. How will a team get its Unique Identification Code? The Unique Identification Code ( UIC ) will be mailed to your registered e-mail address within 24 hrs after completing the registration process. There is only one UIC code for all the team members of a team.
7. What is the use of a Unique Identification Code? All the participants are requested to use their UIC at the top right corner of your submission as it is your identity for the competition-related processes.
8. What to do if a participant does not receive the UIC after making payment? In such cases, the participants are asked to mail their payment receipt [email protected].
9. Does the 150-word limit include legends & one-liners in the sheet? No, the 150-word limit is for the proposal explanation only and it does not include the legends & one-liners on the sheet.

Would anyone be interested if I set up a community Minecraft server?
A few friends and I have had a small server up and running for a few months now, and it was actually a really good bonding experience - I hardly knew some of them to begin with, and now we’re really good friends.
This server thingy is mainly going to be a fun place to hang and get to know each other, good for those of us (me included) who suck at casual conversation without a common medium like a game!
Development is still in progress (getting there!), but I wanted to see how many people would be interested in joining? O: Questions, concerns, comments, warnings, etc are welcome too!
Server will be vanilla with added features. You’ll be able to connect without having to mod your client. The HUGE list of custom stuff is under the cut!
Server settings:
Server will be vanilla (running Spigot) with plugins
Server will run in "season" installments, resetting every predefined period of time (3 months?, with each old map being put up for download). This prevents old players from getting bored with lategame and gives new players an opportunity to get ahead.
Server's goal will be to foster interaction by bringing people together, and thus will be opened to the general community and pretty much anyone who wants to join
Server will be SFW. There will be a toggleable filter for swear words. All slurs (that I can think of) will be filtered without the ability to toggle off.
Server will have a Discord Server set up, for chat about the game, announcements about updates, content suggestions, bug reports, etc.        • While joining the Discord is not required, it is highly recommended,          as that’s where I will post update changelogs, crafting recipes, etc!
Server will still run on a whitelist (with multiple Moderators who have the power to whitelist)        • To join you must have EITHER:                • A main mode of identification (twitter, tumblr) that is NOT                  purely a pron or RP blog/twitter.                • A friend/acquantance in the server that can vouch for you.       • This requirement is an attempt to reduce the potential for conflict.         Thus, any attempts to circumvent the system will thus violate the         condition stated and you will not be let in.
Server will have the following settings:        • KeepInventory: ENABLED        • PVP: ENABLED, with option to disable in Claims, detailed below.        • Difficulty: Normal or Hard - we can vote
Server will additionally have 2 (soon to be 3) minigames, separate from the normal Survival world:       • Mob Arena - PvE gladiator arena where players choose a class         and use swords, bows, and abilities (moves) to slay waves of mobs         and bosses with powerful abilities of their own.       • Hide n’ Seek - Infection-style Hide and Seek with classes.       • Super Punch Bows (Coming Soon(TM)) - Super Smash Bros         style PVP gameplay, but with Punch CCLV, Knockback CCLV bows         instead. Very fast paced.
Server will have numerous Runescape references. Deal with it. c:
Server updates will be relatively slow, especially once school starts again, as I (Accell) am the only developer.
The ONLY in-game rule:
DON’T BE AN ASS. Do NOT intentionally try to ruin the time of others. Harassment will absolutely NOT be tolerated. Note that this definition DOES FORBID acts of “trolling.” Violations will be up to the discretion of staff members who witness the act or receive the report.
Plugin Changes (AKA custom stuff):
Each new player starts with a Tier III and a Tier VII Quantum Tablet, detailed above.
The End is disabled until the very last week (or two?) of each season. This way no one person can jump the gun and kill the dragon on like the second day.         • To combat the unavailability of cool stuff for most of the season:                 • Elytra will very rarely spawn in Nether Fortress chests.                 • Shulker shells will rarely spawn in woodland mansion chests.
Loot Chests (blacksmiths, mineshafts, etc) will contain loot on a per-player basis and cannot be destroyed. Each player will get different loot from a chest.
Chat overhaul - allows you to set a nickname and ignore/block users, which prevents you from seeing their chat messages and PMs.
Custom death messages, complete with puns and pokemon references.
Teleport Tablets - Craftable; one use; Saves a location when used and teleports you back to it when used again. Can be cloned by crafting an activated with an inactive one.
Quantum Tablets - Craftable; one use; Teleports you to a random location within a set radius. Upgradeable up to Tier 7.         • Max Teleport Radius = 512 * (2^(t - 1)); where t = tier of tablet.
Teleportation Tokens - crafted with 1 diamond or 3 emeralds, this item allow ONE usage of the /tpa or /tphere commands.
Lodestones - Craftable; structures that can be placed and used to teleport to other placed lodestones.         • Can be set to one of 3 modes:             • Public - anyone can see this lodestone and teleport to it.             • Private - only you can see and teleport to this lodestone.             • Passworded - anyone can see this lodestone, but only those                who correctly type a password can teleport to it. The owner                will not have to type the password.
Land claiming - Claim an area to protect it so that only added members will be able to build on it. Claimed areas are also immune to explosions.       • Protection Options:             • PVP can be toggled on and off by the claim's owner.             • Protection can be toggled on and off by the claim's owner.
Chests and other containers can be locked with a sign, preventing others from peeking in them.
Nametagged tamed animals cannot take lethal damage and thus never die. Tamed animals can be untamed with Untamers (craftable, looks like a Red Mushroom) if you no longer want them.
Entity data can be collected with an item called an Inspector (craftable, looks like a Redstone Comparator). Right Clicking an entity with it will write data to the item's description.
Wolves become more interactive, such as:       • Wolves can be pet with Sneak + Left Click.       • Wolves have Affection hearts, viewable via Inspector, which         increase if fed Beans, which are uncommonly found in loot chests.       • At 1 or more hearts of affection, Wolves will play Fetch with you         (Right Click with stick to throw).       • Wolves have 2 Quirks each, which give bonuses like extra speed,         lower attack, ability to shoot fire, etc, viewable via Inspector.       • Wolves have a 1/4096 chance to spawn Shiny. Shiny wolves can          be bred with the same chance.       • Shiny parents gives the baby Wolf a higher chance to be Shiny.         Holding a Shimmering Charm (craftable item, looks like a Nether         Star) helps, too.       • Wolves will remember whether they were tamed or bred and in         which season it happened, viewable via Inspector.
Horse stats (Speed, MaxHealth, JumpHeight) can be upgraded with 3 types of Biscuits, found in loot chests.
Cauldrons can be used as stew pots by Right Clicking it with foodstuffs. Provides 3 servings of Homemade Stew when scooped with bowls.
Bricks and Nether Bricks can be thrown or shot from dispensers, dealing damage based on distance travelled. Nether bricks also ignite victims.
Guitars (craftable, looks like a Wooden Shovel) can be used to play sounds. Book n' Quills can be used in conjunction to write sheet music with a fancy GUI.
Pets! Killing certain mobs has a low chance (affected by looting) to drop a Mind, Body or Soul of that mob. Crafting all 3 together will make a pet, which can be placed and picked up.       • Current pets (More to come Soon(TM)):                • Rabbit            • Polar Bear        • Bat                • Silverfish        • Spider
Bleach can be brewed by adding a Poisonous Potato to water bottles. Bleach gives Poison and Nausea, and can be made into splash and lingering variants.
Prismatic Dyes rarely spawn in certain loot chests, and can be used to dye leather armor with a custom RGB or Hex code.
You may store a maximum of 5 items (5 single items, NOT 5 stacks) in a special Safe Deposit Box (accessible via command) to keep between season resets. This is meant for keeping sentimental items, not for getting a head start!        • Entities may be stored by using a Pokeball (craftable).          Only passive and tameable mobs may be stored in this way.        • The following limitations apply to stored items:                • No equipment (armor/tools), enchanted books, or materials                  (diamonds, ingots, etc), except for Skulls. Leather armor can                  be stored if it has no protection enchantments.                • No items that require a certain progression to obtain (blaze                  rods, slimeballs, end stone, etc), except Dragon Heads and                  Dragon Eggs.                • No functional blocks (beacons, enchant tables, brewing                  stands, etc), except for Lodestones.
