I’d did similar one time when making some GIF animation from my previous CNY (Chinese New Year) 2018 artwork. Not bad when looking back on my Filipino pal’s, though.

And another round for my Filipino pal’s Gundam model sketches. Just goes to show, he still enjoying his favorite long running franchise.

What were your thoughts on Kira and Flay's sex scene?

Uuuhhhh Idk if I'm the right person to ask. I'm not really a huge fan of Gundam Seed to begin with. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. I only made one post gushing about Lacus's character design, but that's about it. (I didn't mention about how I couldn't care less for her character)

So yeah, I didn't pay enough attention or bothered to look harder into it, so my memories of this show are really muddy. I've never been a fan of Flay to begin with (I'm not saying I didn't find her sympathetic, I just don't like her) I just remember feeling REALLY uncomfortable and icky during that scene, and I think I decided I didn't like her after that. That's about it, sorry if I couldn't give a more interesting answer.

Okay this is gonna have a BUNCH of pics under the cut cuz we're gonna cover all three of the X Gundams from... Gundam X, the base X, the X Divider, and the Double X. But I hafta lead this post by saying that Gundam X, the show, is criminally overlooked, it is SO GOOD.

The characters are well written, unique, and engaging, the world is one of the more unique settings Gundam has ever tackled; post apocalyptic, and its commentary, on war, on humanity, and on the Gundam franchise itself, is well handled, meaningful, and hopeful.

Also its the anime the "I'm a healer but..." meme image originates from. Yes really.

The HG kits are perfectly serviceable, if a bit standard. The highly reflective rainbow sparkly stickers for the base X Gundam look great if you hit them with light right, and the gold ones, while not as sparkly, light up equally well on the DX. I loooooove the X Divider's whacky shield, which is also a harmonica cannon, and two arrangements of extra thrusters.

There is an interesting aspect of gunpla progression represented here with these kits. The X and Divider have the exact same bodies, which makes sense as they have the same body in the show, but when you move up to the DX, its not just a mild cosmetic change to the armor. The DX is essentially a generation newer in terms of engineering, most noticeable in the hip joints which are no longer ball joints, which makes the kit itself feel as further advanced of the other two kits as the machine itself was advanced of the same machines in the show. I doubt that was on purpose, but it is kinda funny.

My first "official" toy-haul for 2024 got here a few days ago, but I was too busy trying to prepare my Sessho's head sculpt for repainting him, that I kind of forgot to resize these photos. DX Also, shipping... that was so ridiculous! For no reason!

Also got an Eren Yeager Final Season Hugcot mini figure, which I am very happy with. All these figs I am super glad I got. The FFVII keychains, the Sasuke stuff. The Byakuya look up figure is adorable! The only thing I am pissed with, is the freaking extra-mega-large shipping box. For absolutely no reason whatsoever! *sigh* There went over $100USD thrown down the drain, for literal no reason. I'm super angry at that, I probably won't recover from it soon enough in a literally sense, and monetarily.

Japan 2020 - Day 5

Our continuing Tokyo travels take us to a dark warehouse, an abandoned museum and some tasty beverages.

Friday 28th February 2020

Tokyo

Today was out last day staying with Hiroshi and Aiko, they were getting married on Saturday and we needed to get out of their way.

Aomi, Koto City

We headed out early to catch the train to Aomi (青海) an area of reclaimed land in Tokyo Bay. To get there we travelled across the Rainbow Bridge which is 798m long! At night the towers that support the bridge are lit up in rainbow colours.

After getting off the train we enter an area known as Palette Town (not to be confused with Pallet Town from Pokémon) we walk between two buildings, into the circular area in the bottom right of the picture above, the VenusFort Venice-themed mall on the left and the Toyota City Showcase on the right. We were meeting up with Oli's parents, they had just gotten back to Tokyo from sightseeing elsewhere in the country.

We had some time to kill so we had a quick look at what shops and eateries the mall had to offer but decided to head in to the Toyota City Showcase, I'm not really in to cars but they did have some interesting exhibits of what they though cars might look like in the future (with jet packs... what do you mean I already made this joke 🤫) You can see more about it here.

We walked through the Toyota City Showcase and on the other side we found the Daikanransha (大観覧車) Ferris Wheel, Oli suggested we ride it, I was initially hesitate because it seemed expensive but I realised that I was on Holiday and I should try and experience things if I can.

We opted for one of the smaller 360­­° view cars and got some lovely views, the sky was nice and clear and it did the job of killing some time while we waited.

When Oli's parents arrived we headed in to teamLab Borderless, I won't be able to do it justice here, it's a visual and auditory experience, when you enter you get lost in a giant maze and lose track of time much like Ikea.

It's mostly dark except for projectors shining lights and imagery on to the walls, in other areas LED strips hang from the ceiling, these were controlled by the visitors from an app, to add a bit of interactivity.

On the left is a sign showing different kanji's and the pictographs and on the right the corresponding symbols appear in the app.

This is a great place to come and take some beautiful selfies, though beware some areas feature a mirrored floor, so skirts may not be the best choice of clothing. Although these areas are often in side rooms so you don't have to go in if you don't want to.

We had been in here for awhile and I was starting to get hungry, I left Oli and his parents and decided to head over to the food court of the mall next door. I didn't take any pictures here, it looks just like a mall food court with Venice theming and lots of Japanese food.

Just a short walk from the mall in Palette Town is the Unicorn Gundam Statue (実物大ユニコーンガンダム立像) I don't anything about Gundam but it was impressive to see such a big structure just standing outside I had to stop by to admire it.

II had hoped to visit The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (日本科学未来館) but unfortunately it was closed from today until 17th March 2020, I'm sure it'll all have blown over by then.

I met back up with Oli and we headed back to Hiroshi and Aiko's place, we had to change at Tokyo station so took the opportunity to stop off at the Pokémon Center Tokyo DX (ポケモンセンタートウキョーDX) here I picked up an squishy Oddish and a Snivy plushie. There's also a café where you can enjoy cute Pokémon themed food and drinks, but we didn't try it this time.

It took until the last day we were staying with Hiroshi and Aiko for me to check out their nearest BookOff, it was a short walk away from the station, practically on the way to their apartment. There I purchased a Wii Remote, the idea being I could use it with the Wii U I had bought to test out the Taiko no Tatsujin Drum Controller before I took it home.

Hiroshi and Aiko kindly let us store some luggage at their place so we could carry on our journey across Japan with just one suitcase each, before we left they took us out to a local restaurant.

We met up with Oli's parents again and visited Junpei (じゅん平) for some okonomiyaki, Hiroshi took care of ordering for us all which was nice not to have to worry about. After the meal Hiroshi and Aiko left as they had a busy day tomorrow. We stayed in the restaurant for another drink, Oli's dad wanted Sake 🍶 but was having some trouble communicating with the waitress, I watched her trying to work out what drink he wanted for a moment. She was asking questions which didn't seem to relate to sake, I suddenly remembered that the word Sake just means alcohol and that in the west the drink we know as Sake is called Nihonshu (日本酒) with this information we were now able to narrow down the choices from alcohol to a specific beverage.

After our drinks we hopped on the train to Shibuya, the station was being renovated and it was quite confusing to navigate after escaping we then found road works blocking our way so it took us a little longer to get to our AirBNB.

Once there we then had the confusion of working out how to get in to the building, but Oli found the code for the door and we got inside. The small apartment featured two sofa beds, a small kitchen, a washing machine a small shower room and an even smaller room with the toilet. While seated on the toilet you could reach out and touch the wall in front of you.

Tomorrow was the big day for Hiroshi and Aiko, I was invited to the wedding reception in the evening, so I had big plans to explore Akihabara on my own.

My Games of the Year 2023

Oop! Thanks to backtracking old posts, I never thought of making the 2023 version of what is a yearly tradition in this blog. In no particular order except for Number 1.

#1 Blasphemous 2

After the painful yet enjoyable penance of the first game (300+ hours in this point), it's crystal clear that my anticipation for this game was off the charts. When it was released, played it on the first day, and everything about it was beyond my expectations.

Simply put, I love this game as a sequel, and really shows how things turned out in Cvstodia after the Ending C of Blasphemous 1. The macabre art combined with gameplay is stellar (its upgrade and accessory systems are [chef's kiss]). The soundtrack might be my most repeated game soundtrack this year.

I can't wait for the DLCs that this game will deliver soon :)

#2 Super Robot Wars 30

Funny how I remember my first time playing this game- or a Super Robot Wars game at that. I only remember my brothers playing the dai-2-ji SRW G on Gameboy, but playing it myself, I felt so intimidated at first and wondered why the hecc my units were moving on their own (I somehow pressed the button to make the battle automatic).

But after my brother taught me the ropes of the game, 101 hours later, I'm still having a blast with this game. The interactions of the pilots and upgrading all these robots aside from the addictive gameplay, this became my gateway for a whole new world. And by the time I write this, I've watched the MSG 0079 movie trilogy, and I'm almost at the end of my 50-episode Zeta Gundam watch, and it's all thanks to this game :) and a meme featuring Kamille-

#3 Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book DX

As I go through the many titles of Atelier that are available on Steam, I have tried an iconic title, but I guess I wasn't in the mood to play THAT one. While that game will wait its turn, I tried out Sophie, and as expected, this is the wholesome fluffy kind of game you'd expect from the franchise but the more I get into it... Yeah, there's really nothing like the Atelier formula to soothe the soul. Gathering and synthesizing? :insertpachameme:

The soundtrack is top-tier as well, and Sophie is such a cute character! She's so true to herself until the end, like- sure, she has growth as an alchemist but personality-wise, even I'm content in a protag that didn't have to "change" at the end per se. She's good the way she is, and that's refreshing for me. Also, special shoutout to best boi Harol HAHA. And hello to Logy!! (Still playing Escha and Logy~)

#4 Fatal Frame 4 / Project Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse

A dream come true of a game. Once stuck in Nintendo Wii hell, I never thought it would escape that dungeon. After seeing Fatal Frame 5, I had high hopes that this would make the light of day, too. Thus, the happiness I felt when we'd get the opportunity to play an official release of the game THIS YEAR.

I barely remember the videos I watched related to this game, so it felt like I was finding everything out the first time, and the spooks this game gave me aaaa love it. I love the twist here since it's NOT because of a maiden that happened to fall in love that was at fault in this game. The settings and atmosphere are amazing, too. Writing this, gah, I'll replay this right after haha.

Honorable mentions go to: Hi-Fi Rush (I liked it, but somehow I suck at rhythm games ajshksd) and Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn (I already listed this as in the top 5 in 2021 and this is DLC, while Blasphemous 2 is a different beast haha) ♥

Gunpla-kun DX Set

Won’t lie, I’m not always a fan of character designs that are supposed to be ���marketable,” but look how cute it is! This is also my first Eco-pla (which, if you don’t know, is a Gunpla made with recycled plastic), and it was an interesting experience. This type of plastic has its own qualities, being easily marred and the colors being only surface level. It’s definitely a different experience.

The Good: While this build was very simple, only taking me around 4 hours even with waiting for paint to dry, it was still fun and the build has a few tiny tricks to it that made me smile. It also has two build configurations; one standing RX-78-2 and one integrated into a runner.

The Bad: Unfortunately, even though I didn’t abide by it, the instructions recommend not swapping between those configurations due to some fragility in the plastic. My only other issues were from me experiencing this plastic-type for the first time, and learning its qualities while building.

The Details: I added a lot of paint to this one. Top down starting with the head, I dotted the vulcans with panel liner, I painted the area around the eyes and the face vents black, and painted the rear peripheral camera red to match the forehead. I considered sanding the horns, but wasn’t comfortable doing so at the time, though I’m pretty sure you can if you’re careful.

For the torso, arms, and legs, I panel lined the collar and chest vents, added yellow to the belt buckle then went around it in red, and painted the hands black. I painted the backpack black and panel lined the beam saber handles, but because of how small and fragile they are, I broke one off on accident. Luckily it holds a beam saber, so I sanded down that spot flat to look like it was removed. I panel lined the knee and ankle joints (though I probably should have painted them) as well as the bottom of the feet, and re-painted the toes red because the sides looked somewhat marred and I wanted to cover that up.

And for the accessories, I painted the beam red, the rifle black, and its scope yellow with a Gundam Marker because it’s yellow. For the shield, despite the fact that I had the box next to me and eight RX-78-2s behind me, I somehow forgot that the shield is red with a white border, and swapped the colors around, so it ended up white with a red border. Which is doubly silly since the shield is cast in red, so you’d think I’d pick up on the context clues there. Anyway, I dotted the holes with panel liner, and lightly went over the cross with a yellow Gundam Marker to finish it up.

Overall, I could recommend this one for a number of reasons. Getting to handle an Eco-pla, being a good entry-level paint kit, or just being a cute, fun build. I wouldn’t say to go out and buy it now, but if you’re shopping for Gunpla, I’d say to throw it in your cart if it’s in stock. I might even follow my own advice get a second one and do it in my own colors.
