thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes! and also to the two people who sent me kofis hehe I think I am going to buy a hat :) (I keep my hair short because I am sick all the time but the only ballcap I have is a washed out navy blue one I inherited from my grandpa! obviously I need a cute pastel one if I'm going to be wearing cute pastel clothes more often!)

and now we will look at the cute kirbs people drew for me!! they all make me very happy and they are all very cute!! I am saving them all to my computer (with attribution) so I can keep them forever :>

note: happy birthday to our kirbs!! this is short and sweet and i hope you like it!

You could hear the sounds of the party through the connected apartment walls, music and voices blending together to make one aggravating melody. It wasn’t like it was an ungodly time of the night, or that they were really being that loud. In fact, it was only eight p.m. and you could only hear the sounds of their music because the speaker was directly on the wall of your bedroom. It was more based on the fact that you weren’t invited, even though you wouldn’t have known anyone except for the man of the hour.

Kirby had been your neighbor for the last year, and you would like to say the two of you developed a friendship during that time. It started off as just polite conversation and passing glances when you’d see each other, then it turned into Kirby asking for your phone number and the two of you were texting as often as you could. However, when Kirby got injured at the beginning of this hockey season, you felt it shift towards something that had more potential than a friendship. 

When Kirby got injured, he was texting you all day, skirting around asking you to come over because he wanted your company, but never asking because he felt too desperate. Eventually you got tired of his subtle suggestions and flat out asked him if you could come over because you had a bad day. From then on, you spent more time at his apartment than your own, and you’d even met a few of his teammates by accident.  The two of you also often straddled the line that separated platonic and romantic, though neither of you dared to actually cross it in fear of rejection. 

The faint sound knuckles rapping against your front door broke you away from your thoughts, piquing your curiosity because you hadn’t been expecting anyone. You threw your blanket off your legs and slipped out of your bed, toeing your warm house shoes on before making your way to the door. With furrowed brows, you slightly stood on your toes and looked into the small hole in the door and saw the last person you expected to see. 

“Kirby,” You called out as you pulled the door open, your eyes wide in confusion, “What are you doing here?”

“I live next door,” He joked, his smile growing as you playfully rolled your eyes, “You weren’t there.”

His voice dropped, hesitant and careful as he knew he was going to be treading through unfamiliar waters with you. He knocked on your door with a purpose, a mission to stop dancing around the way he felt, but that didn’t mean he was going to be confident about it. In fact, now that you were standing right in front of him, he almost wanted to back out in case he was reading you wrong.

“I wasn’t invited,” You shrugged, trying to come off nonchalant and not like it bothered you, even though it did.

“You’re always invited,” He spoke, his voice soft as he notices the way you slightly retreat, “You can always show up at my door no matter what.”

You open your mouth to respond, but Kirby pushes his way by you, slipping his shoes off before he goes and takes his usual seat on the couch. He places his arm on the back cushion as he turns and looks at you, his eyebrows raised as he waits for you. Shaking your head in amusement, you let the door shut behind you before following his actions. 

You tuck your legs underneath you, your body angled in his direction as your knees press against his thigh. Kirby’s eyes drag along your figure, and you’ve got these thin, plaid shorts on paired with a shirt Kirby is fairly certain belonged to him. Your hair was loose around your face, your cheeks slightly pink the longer you felt his stare on you.

“You can’t stay forever, you know. They’ll notice you’re gone,” You bashfully spoke, fingers pinching at the hem of your shorts.

“I told Slaf where I was going,” He states, his fingertips slightly grazing your shoulder as you relax against the couch, “I’d much rather be here, anyways.”

You snap your gaze up to meet his own, his blue eyes bright despite the minimal lighting decorating the living room. It was your turn to take him in, to notice the way his facial hair had been cleaned up and his shirt clung to his arms. He was wearing his leg brace over his jeans, the material so tight on his thighs you’re surprised they haven’t torn at the seams. 

“Kirby,” You cleared your throat, peeling your eyes away from his thighs, “I’m not taking you from your birthday party. Wait! I have your present. I’ll be right back.”

You dart off the couch and down the hallway to your room, but unbeknownst to you, Kirby decided to follow after you. Your apartment was the exact layout of his own, just flipped, and he’d been in it so many times he knew where your room was. He heard you mumbling to yourself as you searched through your closet, but you hadn’t heard him follow you into the room, so you slammed into his chest when you turned around.

“Jesus,” You gasp as Kirby’s hand instantly grasp at your waist and you try to keep his gift in your hands, “I didn’t know you were behind me!”

“Sorry,” He chuckled, his eyes flitting down to the bag in your hands, “Was too excited to know what you got me, I guess.”

“Well,” You step away from him, “Here you go.”

You hand him the bag, chewing at your bottom lip as your heart pounds in your chest. You always get nervous when you get someone a gift. What if they didn’t like it? What if someone else already got him the same thing? The anticipation kills you, and that’s why you always choose to put them in bags rather than wrap them up in wrapping paper.

Kirby pulls out the few pieces of tissue paper, his eyes narrowing in confusion as he sees a box sitting at the center of the bag. He glances up at you as he dips his hand into the bag to grab the mystery box, giving you a soft smile when he notices nerves swimming in your eyes. The second he recognizes the box in his hands, his eyes widen in shock.

“No way,” He exclaims, the bag falling to his feet as his eyes dart from you to the box, “No way! Y/N, where did you find this?”

“I won’t reveal my secrets,” You giggle, relief flooding your veins at his excitement, “I know you said you really liked it, but couldn’t find it anywhere in stores anymore, so.”

Kirby stares at the box of cologne in his hands, his brain tripping over its own thoughts as he tries to figure out what to say. Of every gift he’s ever gotten, this is by the far the most heartfelt. He’d mentioned to you once, months ago, how he hadn’t been able to find this cologne for years and the fact that you’d gone and found it just solidified how he felt about you. 

You watch as Kirby’s eyes meet your own, a multitude of emotions swirling in them as he places the box on the dresser next to him. He takes a step towards you, watching to see how you react to the newfound proximity until you’re nearly chest to chest. Your heart slams into your ribs as you crane your neck to look up at him, your tongue swiping at your bottom lip.

“Can I kiss you,” Kirby’s voice is low and careful, gaze dancing all across your face.

“I’d be mad if you didn’t,” You breathed out through a wave of confidence.

 It felt like time slowed as Kirby cups the back of your head in his hands, pulling your mouth to his own until your lips were molded together. You wrap your arms around your neck, pulling him closer into you. He slowly backs you against the wall, carefully tugging on your hair as he slips his tongue into your mouth. You let a quiet moan vibrate against Kirby’s mouth, and that’s when he pulls away.

The kiss, while short in time, was full of so much built up emotion that it left the two of you breathless and panting. Your eyes are still closed as you let your head hit the wall behind you, your arms still looped around his neck as his fingertips press into your hips. Kirby dropped his forehead to your shoulder, nothing but pure bliss floating around him.

“I’ve wanted to do that for a year now,” He laughed to himself.

“What took you so long,” You teased, opening your eyes as you dragged your hand up to tangle in his hair.

“Didn’t know if you felt the same,” He sheepishly admitted, lifting his head to look at you.

“Oh, yeah, because I spend all my free time helping all my injured neighbors,” You playfully rolled your eyes, a smile toying at your lips, “I hope you like your gift, Kirbs.”

“I love it, but you’re the only gift I need.”

AUGHAHGSBABDH....I LOVE ALL OF THEM SOSOSO MUCH <33 BUT HERE'S SOME OF THE ONES I THINK ARE VERY COOL (plus my thought process when drawing them)

6. cmonn... its kirby. kirby from kirby. he's such a wonderful fellow and so awe inspiring and cute and manifestation of love and friendship. he's a bonus but how could you not love him.

5. pitch!!!!! i love him i love him i love him. og birb with g r e e n colors and squeaky little design. plus he's super fun to use in DL3 :] to me he is a 7 year old kid who wants to be included with the big kids, and tries to act all cool and tough to impress them (but he really just loves his mama). i like drawing him with giant ahoges/head feathers, as well as giving him that long side-beak that i'm pretty sure i got from pato from pocoyo??

4. susie is amazing and wonderful and has a beautifully complex character that more people need to recognize!!! she's a capitalist and constantly has a condescending sales representative demeanor, but at heart she's just a playful girl who loves pink and ice cream and her dad that never got to have a full childhood to experience them. ALSO cyborg susie! i like to think her father let her choose one body modification each year on her birthday, but after the portal incident, she's been giving herself so many alterations that she's barely organic anymore (her voice is very AI sounding to me). uhh i like drawing her with little stars on her cuffs, and as of late i've been making her hair very fluffy (it has the same texture of a barbie doll)

3. RIBBON AAAA!!!!!!!!! i'll admit as a kid i did not like her but god she is a joy. that is a little girl! look at her! i love the idea of her being just a weird little chihuahua girl who performs seances regularly and knows the entire history of weaponry. also her being the crystal knight/guardian of ripple star headcanon!!! 🗣️🗣️ she is 100% the queen's adopted sister prove me wrong. lastly, i try to draw her as heart-shaped as possible— wings, head, hair, bow, eye highlights all vaguely resemble a heart and that is my biggest rule when i draw her. her little coat thing is inspired by @//somethinginworl 's design <33

2. bandana dee is my heart and soul and we tolerate ZERO disrespect for him here. even in canon, he's got one of the most well-defined personalities and backstories for a non-villain character! (in my heart he is the waddle dee from 64 and you can pry this from me with my cold dead hands) he's grown sososo much and i love how hal recognizes his development :]]] he may never amount to the same power as kirby, but goddammit if he doesn't have a heart and will of a true warrior 💜 i don't have a lot of idiosyncratic design choices since he's such a simple character, but his bandana ears must always be HUGE you hear me.

1. um. if you can't tell. i am very normal about adeleine. her moves in SA are super fun to use (and challenging), and oh my goshhhh the angst potential here. i am begging hal to bring her back in future games, especially with the more ancients-focused lore being incorporated recently. at heart though, i just really adore seeing her draw and paint amidst all these magical creatures in her life <3 she's slightly shy but super passionate, and is definitely kirby's big sister with her advice (especially in the storybooks!) and nicknames for him (kir-kun/kirbs in the manga). i caved long ago and gave her curtain bangs, and i really like dressing her up and experimenting with different outfits! *breathes heavily* the happy little artist kid makes me a very happy little artist kid 🫶

thanks for listening to my ramblings! in all honesty all of the kirby characters are my favorites and choosing just 5 is very hard and thought-inducing! :]

I have! I got it very shortly after it came out, I had a really good time with it. I've been slowly replaying it recently with my partner, they were kind of fond of kirby just by proxy but since we started playing they adore bandee now and say he never gets enough screen time XD I'm glad you also had fun!
