Let’s say hypothetically I wanted to know if you have any high recommendations towards any specific otome game that are available on switch

I would reccomend

Code Realize, both the first game and the two fandiscs are on switch but it was the first english otome otome on ps vita if i remember correctly. Protagonist's touch is poison

Jack Jeanne, co created by Sui Ishida and his sister. One of the most unique otome games I've played in terms of story and gameplay. I feel this one can be enjoyed by most people like even if you're not the target audience, it reminds me of those shounen manga you would mistake for shoujo lol

Cupid Parasite, the most lighthearted on the list but it still has plot/story. Very fun, colorful, and funny, it manages to be these things without overdoing it and being annoying. The fandisc just came out

Hakuoki, very much a classic its been released on multiple platforms but the switch port that combines both vita/pc versions is coming out this year keep an eye out. I would reccomend waiting for the switch port though. Shinsengumi with a twist

Collar x Malice, combination mystery/thriller. It also has a fandisc if you want more. Play Bustafellows if you like this one

For the actual ask portion:

Altaïr would probably be annoyed at Uzui at first because he’s so flashy. They’d probably spar and Altaïr would start to respect him after understanding that, underneath all that ‘flashiness’, Uzui is strong and has conviction (side note: Uzui’s three wives makes me think Makio - Maria, Hinatsuru - Adha and Suma - Kadar XD)

Ezio would think of Sanemi as having skills and potential but he won’t like his attitude. AC2!Ezio would definitely butt heads with Sanemi a lot, especially after he sees how Sanemi acts around his younger brother (since he doesn’t know the whole story) and he’d definitely try to act like a nice big brother to Genya, Brotherhood!Ezio and Revelations!Ezio would not be provoked by Sanemi and act more like an older brother/mentor role that Sanemi doesn’t want at all and thinks is super annoying.

Haganezuka would totally like Ratonhnhaké:ton because Ratonhnhaké:ton would take care of any weapon he receives from Haganezuka. Ratonhnhaké:ton will also be willing to listen to Haganezuka talk about swords for houurrrss. Achilles would have to be the one to smack Haganezuka to get out of the homestead after giving Ratonhnhaké:ton his sword. (Why is Achilles there? Idk, crossover???)

All I can think of is Arno getting adopted by the Kamado family. Tanjuro is quite frail and he’s been sick for a while now so their meeting would probably remind Arno of his late father. But, man, just imagine Arno dancing Hinokami Kagura…

Oh god. Enmu would totally fuck with Jacob using his dreams/nightmares. Like, every pain and weakness Jacob has, Enmu would take advantage of it. Worst of all? Jack the Ripper's actions would definitely haunt Jacob till the day he dies so Enmu using Jack in the attack would really hurt. Enmu wasn’t even a good person as a human but considering Jacob’s luck and bad judge of character? Absolutely won’t be surprised if he invites human!Enmu to the Rooks as a ‘doctor’.

I think Bayek has a good chance of taking out Yahaba. Dude got an actual flaming sword in the main story and I’m sure Reda would have a weapon made of Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand and Scarlet Ore for some reason and, as long as Bayek understood how Yahaba’s blood demon art works, he’d be fine. Bayek took out giant gods (in the Animus), he can take out this demon.

Oh, Aya would not like Daki at all. She might even be reminded of Cleopatra a bit because of her arrogant and dismissive personality which wouldn’t help the situation. They’d definitely fight and… Aya would probably need help on this one. I’m not sure if she ever got into any Isu BS that ended in a boss fight so I can’t be sure how she would handle fighting Daki and her obi attacks. Human!Daki though? Aya would definitely recruit her and her brother to the Hidden Ones if she found them as kids. But if she saw her as her usual cruel self? Yeah, Aya’s not going to like her.

My thoughts on the Okita musical. Pictures and rambling under the cut for my non-Hakumyu followers who probably wish I would just shut up about it already.

So, I don't know if I made it clear before, but I think Okita's route is my favourite in the game of what I've played so far, and one of my favourite characters. I think I waited too long to finish watching the musical after playing it and wish it didn't take me so long to finish watching it, because my memory is already getting a little fuzzy on the details of the game even though I think I still remember a fair bit of the overall story. I just felt like I was having trouble being certain about some of the differences but then again, it's OK not to compare and just enjoy it mostly for what it is.

I've posted about it already, but the song about Okita's relationship to Kondou was really moving to me, and the first time I watched that song I cried a little. Kondou and Okita's relationship makes me soft.

While I found Kaoru a really compelling villain in the game and we did get his backstory in the musical (plus the actor playing him was really into being evil) I'm still not sure I connected with him in the same way. The moment below where he reveals Chizuru is his sister is funny, though, because of Chizuru's shocked expression. Perhaps unintentionally funny, but that reaction shot got me.

And of course their duet together is so much fun, anachronistic microphone and all.

Other than Kaoru, though, who is the main demon in this story, I felt that the inclusion of Shiranui, Kazama, and Amagiri felt a little extraneous and forced in. I guess to some extent they comment on things and are another rival to fight, but I didn't feel they added enough to the story to warrant the demon clan song. But maybe that's just me.

As for the development of Okita and Chizuru's relationship, I thought the way they portrayed it was pretty satisfying.

I liked the way they did this dream scene, the transition was so quick I was wondering "How did they do that?" Of course, it's an ensemble member playing Okita in the dream, but it took me by surprise. I love theatre magic! Also, this scene gave us a sense of how Okita is feeling, which I liked.

I liked how things came together with repeating the dream scenario again, having it play out in his head before "rewinding" to reality to show him coming between Kaoru and Chizuru before Kaoru can hurt her. I think it was perhaps a bit messy, I was wondering why Okita looked like he was falling through the air, but the message came across for the most part.

Interestingly, I think one of the things that his musical does really well (and what I've seen of some of the others, this is the case in the other musicals as well) is the blood-drinking scenes. When I first got into Hakuoki I found those scenes kind of uncomfortable even though I understood the purpose and still liked the story. I don't usually like how the characters are drawn in the CGs for those scenes in the game, but I think the scenes in the musical convey the tenderness and intimacy really well. Even when Okita is literally licking Chizuru's hand in the first one in this musical, there's something touching and tender in it, to me. Maybe I'm a freak, but that's how I felt watching it.

I was quite happy to see they included the one where Chizuru and Okita drink each other's blood. This might not be the most popular opinion among fans, but I think there's so much intimacy in that scene, it almost makes up for the fact that Okita and Chizuru don't kiss in this musical. The scene is one you can only select in the game for the bad endings, but I think it should be included with the good ending.

The way they sing "Aaaahh-aaah" together as they both bear themselves to each other, the fact that what they sing together uses the melody from Paint It Blood, the way they each sheath their swords at the same time at the end. Aaahh! I didn't cry, but I pretty much turned into a pile of mush, it was so satisfying and moving. I think I'm using those words too much, but I'm not sure how else to say it right now. I just loved the way it beautifully brought the characters together and the way Paint It Blood became a love theme.

Speaking of emotions, the reprise of Yaisa! Yaisa! Yaisa! gave me some!

Hijikata imagining talking to Kondou-san as he continues to fight... oof.

I thought the confrontation scene between Okita and Hijikata, which was one of the scenes that moved me the most in the game (partly because of the actors' voices), was also pretty good in this. We don't get to actually see Okita hit Hijikata in the game, it's not in the CG, but it definitely hit home in the musical the emotions Okita was feeling.

And then finally at the end of the musical after Kaoru has been defeated, we finish with another hug and notice Koaru's body in the background. I think a hug does make more sense than a kiss given the situation, and I just really like this tableau. Chizuru has lost a lot, and will lose Okita eventually, but right now they hold each other, and he wants to protect her.

So yeah, good job on Okita-hen, everyone (she says, about ten years after they already made it). I wouldn't be averse to Shinkai Okita-hen, which is a surprise to no one. Maybe we can even let them kiss this time? That CG is a really nice one...

Souji: has several poorly healed bullet holes in his body, has TB, is a rasetsu, can’t follow his calling in life (killing people for Kondo), is being babysat by Yamazaki who he loathes, is being babysat by Chizuru with whom he is in a situationship that none of them plans to make clearer in the foreseeable future, is worried for Chizuru.

Chizuru: the love of her life has several bullet holes (‘because of her’) in his body and is a rasetsu and she can’t do a lot to help him get better, is babysitting Souji (notably difficult to babysit), is in a situationship with Souji, Souji and Yamazaki have actually called a truce for the first time in their lives to force her to rest.

Yamazaki: has to babysit Souji (notably difficult to babysit) who he can’t stand either, has to babysit Chizuru too because she doesn´t take good care of herself, can’t attend to any of his other duties for the Shinsengumi, has to witness the situationship between Souji and Chizuru every single day.

Dr Matsumoto: has to come once a week (idk) in the middle of this and has to try being professional.

Yukimura:....Toshizou-san, Toshizou-san!

Hijikata: Hey hey, why are you so flustered?

Yukimura: Quickly take a look at this...

Hijikata: That's a branch of sakura. Where did you pick it up?

Yukimura: I picked.... no, I got this...

HIjikata: Nn.... catch your breath first then talk about it

Yukimura: Ah, okay.... fu.... good. Do you remember how that on the road into the village, that there was a family t on the road to the village, there was a family/were families that planted sakura tree?

Hijikata: Yes, I remember. There was only one tree... could it be that it was cut down?

Yukimura: No, it wasn't cut down. It just so happened that when the family was pruning the flowers on the tree, that I was passing by...

Hijikata: I see. Then you brought back this branch of sakura.

Yukimura: That's right

Hijikata: It appears that there are a lot of buds... it'd be good if they could blossom smoothly

Hijikata: You guys keep coming into to my room to see this branch of sakura, and keep getting in the way of my work. Take this sakura branch and put it into your room.

Yukimura: Eh.... but...

Hijikata: It's fine, hurry up and take it. Someone might come into this room at any moment, and that would cause problems.

Yukimura: I understand...

Hijjikata: (narrating): I thought that was the end of that... you really love meddling... What, don't you remember? From that day onward, each time you brought tea, you'd give me a report about the sakura. And just like that, when the buds bloomed, you rushed in as flustered as you were like today——

Yukimura: I, I'm truly sorry. But, I wanted to quickly tell you...

HIjikata; I didn't say that you shouldn't come to tell me about the sakura. However, it's better to decide if it's urgent or not in advance. whether it is urgent or not, it is better to judge in advance. It won't matter if you're running here without panicking.

Yukimura: Having said that...

Hijikata:......Forget it, you still specifically came to tell me. It's blooming beautifully.

Yukimura: Yes!.... So, can I decorate your room with these sakura?

HIjikate: Up until now, they've been used to decorate your room, and I don't think they necessarily need to be put back in my room for a particular reason.

Yukimura: But, I have always felt that sakura suit Hijikata-san.

Hijikata: What does that mean?

Yukimura:....The first time I saw Hijikata-san.... No, I don't know why I've felt this way.... Ah, no, it's not just because I feel like this. I don't know why, but I've always felt that Kondou-san and I are different, and have always felt that's something special in Hijikata-san's gaze at sakura...

Hijikata (narrated): What you said at that time surprised me. I didn't expect a girl who was ten years younger than me could see my innermost thoughts. But what surprised me more was what happened next——

Hijikata: You're so perceptive in that way, even though you're dressed as man, you're still...

Yukimura: Eh...?

Hijikata: I don't mean anything weird. Isn't it cliché that a woman's intuition is always right or something

Hijikata:....I have special sentiments towards sakura. Seeing these types of flowers always fills me with an incredible feeling. It should be said that they always make me feel distraught...  will always make me feel distraught... Do you have any opinions when you see sakura?

Yukimura: I, I just think that they're beautiful...

Hijikata: Sakura all bloom together at the same time, and in the blink of an eye, they all  wither away. They're just like a samurai's way of life, and I like that myself like [about them?]/like that point myself. However, I wasn't certain that this sakura branch would bloom... Even if they're able to blossom, they can only bloom for a short time before withering.... I feel that this somehow hints at our future in the Shinsengumi in a sense.... which is why I didn't want to look at it, and gave the sakura branch to you. You and Kondou-san weren't hindering me, it was this sakura branch. I was really concerned about it... and I really hate myself for acting somewhat feminine. I obviously don't want to look at it but am worried a lot about it. I hate this... This sakura branch makes me feel very irritable... Of course, now that it's bloomed, can it be treated differently. It's blossomed so beautifully, and is fascinating to look at, this is really nerve-racking.  

Yukimura:.....

Hijikata: I... no, we won't be as fleeting as the sakura. We're still going to bloom in the future... How can we wither away.

Hello! I just wanted to say thank you for your hard work in translating Hakuoki FDs ^^. I am grateful that I'll be able to have more Hakuoki contents that I otherwise wont be able to enjoy because of language barrier

This might be a pipedream but I really, really hope they'll localize the fandisk one day. I know that people complain about too much Hakuoki but we literally only have the original game and their ports in eng and not any of the FD materials!

That aside, I am curious about how would you rank the Hakuoki guys from your most favorite to least favorite? Saito seems to be a favorite of yours (great taste btw :D)

I will get my copy of Ten’un no Shou some time this year so I still have a lot of work ahead of me ! If they localize the video games, I will have more time for my other projects (the R18 Hakuouki fangames and the doujinshi hakuouki mangas)

About rating, it’s something I do every year just for me and it’s funny to see that my tastes and opinions change over time 🤷‍♀️ also I have two ratings, one for my favorites and one for Chizuru. I will give my rating for favorite in this ask.

My 2022 one would be… Saito, Kazama, Hijikata, Ryouma, Souma, Heisuke, Yamazaki, Sannan, Okita, Nagakura, Harada, Iba.

When I started getting invested in the game (2018 I think ? I’m a late comer to the Hakuouki fandom) it was more

Saito, Ryouma, Souma, Sannan, Heisuke, Okita, Kazama, Nagakura, Yamazaki, Harada, Hijikata, Iba.

It’s funny to see how some of my opinions changed with some fandisks, replaying, or other media like fanfictions or doujinshi manga. Probably that list will be outdated next year since it will change again ! But one thing that will never change : Saito is ma boi.
