The "Rubens Vase," an Agate Hardstone Carving of c. A.D. 400,
Carved in high relief from a single piece of agate, this extraordinary vase was most likely created in an imperial workshop for a Byzantine emperor.
It made its way to France, probably carried off as treasure after the sack of Constantinople in 1204 during the Fourth Crusade, where it passed through the hands of some of the most renowned collectors of western Europe, including the Dukes of Anjou and King Charles V of France.
In 1619, the vase was purchased by the great Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640). A drawing that he made of it is now in Saint Petersburg, State Hermitage Museum, inv. 5430.
The subsequent fate of the vase before the 19th century is obscure. The gold mount around its rim is struck with a French gold-standard mark used in 1809-1819 and with the guarantee stamp of the French departement of Ain.
A similar late Roman agate vessel, the "Waddesdon Vase" or "Cellini Vase," in now in the British Museum, London.
The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore, Maryland.

"The Release from Deception,"
Carved from a single block of marble, it depicts a fisherman being released from netting by an angel, allegorical to the man being liberated from his sins.
So intricate was the work that 18th-century philosopher Giangiuseppe Origlia described it as “the last and most trying test to which sculpture in marble can aspire.”
Queirolo worked alone on his magnum opus, without an assistant or even a workshop. Even other sculptors refused to touch the delicate net in case it broke into pieces in their hands.
The masterpiece is housed at the Sansevero Chapel in Naples, with several other miracles of marble. Namely, "The Veiled Christ" (1753) by Giuseppe Sanmartino and "The Veiled Truth" (1750) by Antonio Corradini.
Francesco Queirolo (1752-1759)

Ok, I did some review of my fav carving channels' videos, and tried a different approach to the initial image transfer and the carving, much better results!!
Vash's hair was a WHOLE THING xD
I'm still waiting on the bigger pieces of rubber and have to print off a larger image, but all going well, I'll be trying my first big stamp of one of @shelternmberone 's Vash pieces next weekend! Might even do a two-colour print of it if it comes out well <3

Did. . .Did I share my curse removal cards? 'Cause I've been working through variations of curse removal scratch off cards and I've been really enjoying them.
Tumblr media
Version on the left is the orginal version that I handed out a PAXU. The carved stamp and other cards are teh second version. I'm working on version 3 now!
Under the scratch off is various fairy tale solutions to curses (and some additional ones I thought were entertaining)

Hand carved stone thylacines + mouse.
Hand in carved slate and soapstone, using a metal pick. Been doing theese for fun recently, not sure why, i think it just gives me an excuse to sit outside. And i like the permanence of stone, it makes me feel like im preserving something that will still be around for 1000s of years, even though its unrealistic. Im proud of them, but i know they arent very good, its hard to keep detail.

I work on the smallest ones. No bigger than an A5. On the left, it's an adaptation of an old fanart where the cardinal is holding two rats and asks ‘how do you want to die? plague? war? or fuck to death’. On the right is another old fanart that I've left almost unchanged.
