Comfy cozy Rotomblr ask game
//Fuck it, we're making one of these for everyone stuck in the middle of winter. Don't forget to send an ask to the person you reblogged from and at least one person who reblogs it from you.
🔥 What is your character passionate about? What really gets them excited?
🛏️ What's your character's sleeping arrangement like? How many plushies, how many pillows? Do they want more?
🕯️ What gives them hope? What do they consider a light in the darkness?
🎉 What's their favorite winter festivity tradition? If they don't celebrate any, why not?
🍙 What's your character's comfort food? Is there a special way of making it?
🍽️ Does your character have any special dinnerware that they use, like a happy birthday plate or a favorite pair of chopsticks?
📘 What's a story that feels cozy to them?
🎶 What kind of music do they consider familiar and comforting?
🦆 Would they prefer to winter somewhere else, or are they comfortable where they are?
❄️ What's their favorite thing to do in the snow?
😇 When things are cozy and peaceful, are they afraid? Why?

Today, June 6, Mia's five celebrate their first birthdays! Yep, these little fluffs turned 1 years old! Hooray!🎉
We all watched together how the grew up and became more and more manulish, learnt how to put paws on a tail, played snow balls, came through their first winter and really fluffgrew! Snezhinka (Снежинка) even became a social-media star and a mascot of New Year Capital of Russia!
All five fluffs - four brothers and their sister - are still living in Novosibirsk zoo. Guys still don't have names because the zoo has a plan to give them away to other zoos.
The most intriguing questions — who is their father? We still don't have a solid answer to this question, but you have to know that Mia has dates with three manuls that spring — Zelenogorsk (Зеленогорск), George (Жорик) and Earl (Эрл) 💞
Happy first birthday lovely fluffs! We wish you to be the most happiest manuls on Earth and live long!💫
1 and 2 — Snezhinka, 3, 4 and 5 — manul-boys.

Never Been Kissed
Book: Open Heart, Book 2 Pairing: Dr. Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Dr. Sawyer Brooks) Rating: General Category: Fluff Word count: 1.8K Summary: Ethan helps Sawyer with one of her New Year’s resolutions. A/N: I woke up with this idea yesterday and hammered it out last night so I could post it in time for NYE. Please forgive any errors. Happy New Year!🎉🪩🍾
Events/Prompts: • Participating in CFWC Holidays 2023 • Participating in Choices Flashfics Week #66 Prompts 🫤3: “How much worse could it get?” • Participating in Choices Holidays Winter 2023
Tumblr media
Sawyer had never kissed anyone on New Year's Eve.
Every year, for as long as she could remember, she rang in the new year with her family. The tradition was due in part to the fact that it was also her father's birthday. Twelve years away at school, but she always returned home for the holidays, never missing the annual event. Even last year, her first in Boston, she was able to make it home. A trip made possible by the plane ticket Ethan had given her for Christmas, a generous thank-you gift for helping him with Naveen.
In recent years their family party grew to include significant others and their babies. Everyone had a special someone to kiss at midnight. Everyone but Sawyer.
When she broke the news to her parents that she was staying in Boston for New Years, there was disappointment on both ends of the line. A couple weeks had passed since she returned to work, and the medical leave she took to recuperate from the attack had already eaten up more time than she could afford. She couldn’t spare any more time away. Her parents were understanding, and Sawyer found a silver lining in that she finally had a special someone to kiss at midnight this year.
At least that was the case until she looked at her schedule a week later. Zaid accommodated her request for extra shifts, allowing her to make up clinic hours. But given that she worked a double on Christmas, she didn’t expect another on New Year’s Eve. She should have known better. It was one of the busiest nights of the year in the emergency department.

After a quick coffee break at Derry’s, Ethan helped Sawyer put her coat back on. He took the cream colored beanie that she pulled from her pocket and fitted it over her head. “Nice bunny tail,” he said, gently swatting the giant cotton ball sewn to the top of her knit hat.
“Watch it, Mister, or you won’t be getting any of this tail for a while,” she turned and shook her rear end at him.
Just before they headed back inside the hospital, Sawyer squeezed his hand. “Sure you don’t want to volunteer and stay for another shift?” she asked, looking up at him with a puppy dog pout.
The first time Sawyer returned to work after the attack, with her landlord in tow, it had been a complete disaster. Though things had gone better this time around, Ethan kept an eye out for any signs of distress. She had her ups and downs, and he couldn't help but worry about her. "Is everything all right?"
“Yeah, it’s fine. You don’t need to worry. I promise,” she tried to assure him, sensing his concern. “I’m just going to miss you tonight, that’s all.”
Ethan could still feel something was off, but dropped it.

It took him twice as long to get home with New Year’s revelers heading to their festivities around town. After a light dinner, a satisfying workout, and a long, hot shower, Ethan settled on his couch. The apartment suddenly felt too quiet, too empty. He missed his girlfriend. Since Sawyer began picking up double-shifts, they had not had a lot of time alone. Sure he got to see her at work. But it wasn’t the same as curling up together on the couch and talking about their day, or kissing whenever they felt like it, or waking up in each other’s arms.
Hoping it would provide some distraction, he turned on the television and watched the local news. When the weather segment began, Ethan grew bored. He reached for a book on the coffee table, finding Sawyer’s notebook underneath. He recognized it from their DT meetings, where she took meticulous notes and sometimes doodled during their brainstorming sessions. She must have forgotten it the last time she stayed over.
The way her mind worked fascinated him. She could be discussing the differences between apples and oranges when… Click! An idea would pop into her head to check their patient for uneven skin texture, giving her the lead needed to reach a successful diagnosis.
Curious to know her thoughts about their current, undiagnosed patient, Ethan picked up the notebook and flipped through the pages. They were filled with detailed notes from each of their team meetings. Random side notes littered the margins. Tacos or burritos? He chuckled, wondering if the question was part of a diagnostic brainstorm, or if she was just hungry at the time. Turning the page to a more recent entry, he found Sawyer’s notes from a meeting he conducted last week. Ethan had attempted to inspire the team by conducting a goal-setting exercise. He asked everyone to jot down a few professional and personal goals for the new year.
Tumblr media
Several emotions washed over Ethan as he read her goals. She was cute as hell, but his heart broke a little knowing how much weight she still carried on her shoulders.
On the TV, the New Year’s Eve countdown now aired. A correspondent stood in front of a large crowd of people gathered in Times Square. “…And according to folklore, a kiss at midnight brings luck and strength to that relationship for the rest of the year. So, who will you be kissing when the clock strikes twelve?” Ethan looked down at her list again. Is that why she wanted me to stay tonight? Was that the reason she seemed so… disappointed?
A timer in the corner of the TV screen counted down the time to the famous ball drop. Forty minutes until midnight.
Ethan never paid any mind to superstitions. Thinking back to the events of the past two years, he thought to himself, “How much worse could it get?” He shuddered at the thought, bolting to his closet where he threw on a pair of jeans and a sweater, then slipped into his running shoes. He was not going to take any chances, and most importantly, he was intent on giving Sawyer whatever she desired. If she wanted a kiss at midnight, he would make it happen. Keys and jacket in hand, the door to his apartment slammed shut behind him.
Ethan stepped into the atrium and checked the clock behind the reception desk. Fifteen minutes until midnight.
He pushed through the doors of the emergency department a couple minutes later. It was eerily quiet. The calm before the storm. In about an hour, the waiting room would be packed with reckless and unfortunate party-goers. He didn’t see Sawyer anywhere, but wanting to confirm, Ethan inquired at the triage desk.
“Happy New Year, Dr. Ramsey,” the triage coordinator greeted.
“Happy New Year, Anabel. Have you seen Dr. Brooks?”
“About an hour ago? She mentioned trying to catch a quick nap before the midnight rush.”
“Thank you.”
Ethan made his way to the on-call room nearest the emergency room. When he opened the door, the beds were full of sleeping doctors, but Sawyer was not among them. After a quick peek in the cafeteria, he headed up to the Internal Medicine floor. The hallways were dim and quiet at this time of night. He checked all the obvious places. Staff lounge, empty. Resident locker room, empty. The on-call room was also empty, save for a pager that someone had left behind. Duh!
“Could you page Dr. Brooks, please?” he asked the nurse sitting behind the circular desk. Not a moment later, the pager in his hand started to vibrate.
Of course. He wondered if this was the universe mocking him for his skepticism.
Jan, the night supervisor, quietly exited the patient’s room behind him. “Hey kiddo, I thought you went home a few hours ago?” She noticed the pager in his hand. “Did someone page you?”
“Uh, no. Jan, I’m looking for Sawy- for Dr. Brooks? Have you seen her?” he asked.
“No, hon, but I’ve seen several folks making their way up to the helipad for the fireworks. Maybe she’s up there?”
Yes! She loves fireworks. Ethan looked at his wrist. Five minutes until midnight.
After thanking the nurses, he walked with purpose to the elevator bank and punched the up button. Come on, come on! Four minutes to midnight.
When he reached the seventh floor he jogged to the helipad entrance. The automatic glass doors slid open and a frigid gush of wind hit his face. With only the light of the helipad beacons, Ethan frantically scanned the gathered crowd. She’s not here. Dammit!
He checked the time again. Two minutes until midnight.
As he turned to head back inside, he noticed a large chunk of snow falling from above. It fell from a secluded section of the rooftop that few knew how to access. Naveen referred to it as “the bird’s nest.” He shared its location with Ethan, and in turn, Ethan shared it with Sawyer. It was a place they could go when they needed a minute of peace. To his surprise, he saw what appeared to be a snowball floating in midair. Wait… not a snowball. A bunny tail!
When he reached the stairwell, he glanced at his watch again. One minute until midnight.
Climbing the stairs three at a time, he quickly ascended two flights of stairs, bursting onto the ninth floor. Thankfully these hallways were lined mostly with administrative offices and were completely abandoned given the late hour. Sprinting to the end of the long hallway, Ethan pulled on a door marked “Authorized Personnel Only.” He launched himself through the dark doorway and blindly climbed another flight of stairs.
Just as his hand reached the door at the top of the staircase, he heard an explosion on the other side. Midnight.
Sawyer jumped when she heard the steel door crash against the stone exterior of the building. Turning around, she saw Ethan. Steam puffed from his mouth as he tried to catch his breath.
With the sky sparkling behind her, he grabbed the sides of her face, and crashed his lips onto hers. Once the urgency had subsided, he changed the angle and kissed her again. Deep and tender. When he pulled away to give his lungs a chance to expand, Sawyer could see the fireworks reflected in his eyes.
Tucked in his embrace, she smiled up at him. “What are you doing here?”
“Helping you keep your New Year’s resolutions.”
She looked at him confused. “Wait... how did you know about that?” She hadn’t remembered mentioning it to him, or anyone for that matter.
“You left your notebook at my apartment.” He reached into his pocket and handed her the pager. “You also left this in the on-call room.”
“Shit. Please don’t tell my boss.”
“You’ll have to silence me with another kiss,” he smirked.
“Well, if that's what it takes...” she laughed, standing on her tiptoes. She brushed her lips against his and whispered, “Happy New Year, Ethan.”
Before claiming her lips again, he whispered back, “Happy New Year, Rookie.”

Modern Tommy Shelby x reader
This is pure fluff 🥰
Taking off the jacket of his suit, Tommy discarded it over the bed, his eyes roaming across the bedroom finding you looking outside, leaning on the window frame. His eyes stopped for a moment in the dandelion he bought for one of your anniversaries.
Tumblr media
It was beautifully captured in a resin crystal ball, the smile you gave him when you opened his present was priceless.
In silence, he wrapped his arms around your midsection, earning a little jump of surprise to feel him suddenly.
“Is everything alright?” He asked. His breath fanning over the skin of your neck.
“Yes… it’s just a bit overwhelming with the wedding, the guest list and I don’t have a dress yet.”
His lips stopped kissing your neck, a smile replacing.
“But why are you so worried, darling?” You found his eyes looking at you in the window reflection. “I’d still marry you if you show up wearing a potato sack.”
That made you chuckle before turning around in his arms. “I know you would.”
“Then it’s all set.” Tommy winked squeezing his hands on your hips slightly while you shook your head. “No? Fair enough… as I can’t and won’t be doing the wedding planner’s job, my only suggestion is forget about the wedding for one day, Charlie’s coming tomorrow to spend the weekend with us, so why don’t we have some fun?”
“Oh! You know how to?” You joked earning an eye roll from your fiancé.
“What kind of fun?”
“Family fun, I don’t know you’re the creative one from us.” He added playfully bumping his nose with yours before pulling you to the en-suite bathroom.
****
“Hi Y/N!” Charlie shouted you from the door, a big smile decorating his face as he saw you waiting in the queue.
You waved at him and immediately felt his positive energy bring you back to life, all other worries melted away.
But his teacher made you go through a hard time when she mentioned they didn’t get a call to notify that Tommy wouldn’t pick up Charlie from school. As if they were friends.
“Is alright, Y/N and my Dad had a sleepover and-” But you covered his mouth before Charlie could continue with his explanation, while a soft blush covered your cheeks.
“I understand, let me call my fiancé.” You stated taking out your phone, flashing your engagement ring at the teacher. Your Tommy asked last minute if you could pick up his son from school.
A few minutes later, you were giving Charlie a little speech of how important safety was, and how only Grace, Tommy and sometimes you were the only ones allowed to pick him up. Kids could get tricked so easily, get taken away in a blink, besides taking care of Tommy’s son was a huge responsibility.
But Charlie, being a kid, he quickly changed the topic.
“Y/N...”
“Yes sweetheart?”
“Can we make a water balloons war for my birthday?”
“But it will be in winter, it’s going to be cold...”
“Oh.” Charlie looked down, his happy bubble was deflated.
“Unless...”
Anthony, Tommy’s new driver looked at you through the review mirror, he suddenly felt concerned. “Mr. Shelby instructed to drive you straight home.”
“We’ll be quick, I promise.”
“If I get in trouble...”
“Don’t worry Anthony, I will tell Dad it was Y/N’s idea.”
“Hey!” You protested, but then went on to tell Anthony to stop at the shopping mall. You only needed a few things.
After all Tommy asked you to think of something fun, didn’t he?
***
“Mr. Shelby, you got back earlier.” Frances frowned, but took his suit jacket from his hands.
Frowning back, Tommy stopped to look at her. “Y/N texted me, said something important came up.”
“Oh...”
Squinting his eyes at her, Tommy tilted his head confused. Why was Frances acting like that?
In a reflection, he moved his hand to the holster, to take his gun.
“You might want me to keep that one away and use this instead.” Frances explained, offering him a piece of paper and a plastic gun.
Tumblr media
But before he could react, Tommy got a shot of water straight in the back of his head.
Time seemed to stop right there. Frances was holding her breath.
Slowly, Tommy turned around to find you pointing your water gun at him.
Even Charlie stopped laughing.
His eyes were covered by his Raybans, but you had an idea of the dead look he was giving you.
“Pum pum!” You imitated the sound of a gun. But as a mischievous smile appeared on his face, you added: “Shit... run Charlie!”
Frances was worried about the decorations, terrified of a flower vase falling to the floor, but felt more relieved when you and Charlie took the water war outside.
Tommy was used to guns, all kinds. Apart from horses, he had a massive collection of weapons, yet he had never used a water gun.
“Charlie get down!” You advised, shooting Tommy again, failing this time.
Tommy laughed, a deep and contagious sound that took him by surprise.
Charlie rolled over the grass in a very dramatic motion, as if with that Tommy wouldn’t point his weapon and shoot Charlie straight in the forehead.
“Hey that's not fair, he’s only a child!” You scolded him coming from behind a tree.
But it was a mistake, because Tommy took the chance to shoot you straight at breasts-level. Now you had two wet circles that made your bra visible.
Making a face and giving him a dead stare, you asked him; “Are you kidding me?”
“You are the one who came up with the idea, love.” Tommy winked at you and for the first time in a very long time, you noticed he was having fun.
“Yes you need to relax.” Splash. “Urgently.” Splash.
In response you shot him straight in the face.
Taking his handkerchief from his pocket, Tommy stared into your eyes intensely.
“You know you’re going to pay for this later right?”
Biting your lower lip, you nodded. Excitement running to the spot between your legs.
Heart beating fast, happiness pouring, deep laughs was all could be seen right there in that moment. Even Cyril joined the outside fun at some point, but soon he preferred a quiet time and went to rest under a tree.
“All against Charlie!” You shouted directing the water gun to Charlie’s back.
The kid squealed in delight and ran off to hide behind his father’s car.
Tommy stared at the scene before him, how did he become so damn lucky?
Charlie would spend the entire weekend with the two of you, so you would be able to enjoy some time together, and with you hanging around, Charlie surely would be having a good time granted.
After calling for a truce because he was really tired, so the three of you went to sit on the picnic blanket Frances set up thinking Mr. Shelby would want some rest, she really thought of everything; setting a jar of cold lemonade, sandwiches and some cookies. She knew listening to Mr. Shelby laugh was one of those very rare moments that doesn’t happen everyday, so she thought of prolonging it as much as possible.
As spring started to blossom, the flowers around Arrow House got impossibly gorgeous, the clean fresh air from the country house combined to the incredible weather relaxed her.
You needed this, after so many days planning, worrying, you couldn’t take it anymore.
“I don’t know how you will be able to make me move from here.” Tommy joked too content resting his head on your lap.
“We can camp out!” Charlie proposed.
“I can get a snake bite here.” You made a terrified face to Charlie.
The kid chuckled, dimples showing just like his father’s. “There are no snakes around Y/N and if they are, Dad can defend you.”
You chuckled. Starting to run your fingers through Tommy’s hair, the longer parts at the top anyways.
Opening one of his eyes, Tommy found a dandelion right next to his body. Taking it into his hand carefully he placed it in front of your face.
“Make a wish.” Tommy requested.
“Do you remember?” Your face was full of surprise.
“Of course I do, that’s how I got you to accept be my woman. I wished for it.”
Closing your eyes momentarily, you remembered the afternoon when Tommy asked you to be his girlfriend, he showed a dandelion and said he made a wish, he wanted to get to spend the rest of his days with you.
“Should we make a wish?” Tommy proposed.
Wrapping a hand around the one in which he was holding the dandelion, you and Tommy blew watching the small piece flying away.
“Charlie I want to ask you something really important.”
That caught the Shelby’s attention. Both father and son looked at you intensely.
“You know how I don’t have anyone to walk me down the aisle… would you like to give me away to your father?” You tried to fight the lump that had created in your throat.
Tommy held his breath, he didn’t expect it, but deep down he knew how much it would mean to you.
As seconds passed by, Charlie’s smile grew bigger until he threw himself into your arms squealing a loud yes!
“This is the bestest day ever!” Charlie beamed, wrapping his arms around each other, bringing their heads together. “Do I get to wear a tux just like Dad?”
But he couldn’t wait for a answer and immediately took off running telling Cyril what you just asked him.
You looked at Tommy touched by his son’s words.
Knowing that Charlie was a happy kid was all your fiancé wanted.
“Can I ask what your wish was?” You asked resting your head on his shoulder.
“This.”

Life is Beautiful with You
Fandom: Outer Range, Rhett Abbott, f!reader
Summary: Things have not been exactly what you expected since Rhett proposed, but that doesn't mean you love him any less.
Word Count: 1624
TW: Fluff, Steamy Moments, Allusions to Reader being shorter than Rhett
Notes: @footprintsinthesxnd requested a super fluffy Rhett fic so I hope this is what you had in mind 💖 Thank you to @green-socks for beta reading for me!
Happy Birthday, Lewis Pullman! 🎉 In celebration, here is some loving fluff for my favorite cowboy!
Tumblr media
It had been difficult moving in with Rhett. Not because of him, God no! He was everything you had ever wanted and living together had just solidified the fact that you never wanted to be apart from him for the rest of your life. However, living in his family home with his parents, brother, and niece was not what you had imagined when he had proposed. Yet, it also wasn’t a surprise when he brought it up seeing how devoted he was to them, even if they didn’t show him the same devotion in return.
Life on a ranch was completely different from anything you had experienced before. You grew up in the heart of Wabang and while it wasn’t a large town, it was still very different from the Abbott’s ranch. You weren’t used to having to get up at the crack of dawn to help take care of the animals, or helping Rhett’s mother with breakfast, or coming in every evening smelling like sweat, cows, and manure. Rhett constantly told you that you didn’t have to help with the chores, but how were you supposed to just sit there and watch as everyone else worked around you? So, you continued to get up with everyone else, bit your tongue, and pushed through, despite the fact this wasn’t what you wanted for your future.
But this… this almost made it all worth it. Standing leaning on the railing of the porch, you gazed out across the wide open pastures as you watched the sun sliding steadily down towards the horizon. You could see the individual sunbeams as they streamed through the sparse line of trees on the edge of the yard, making the red and yellow fall leaves seem to glow in the dimming light. The wind drifted gently across the open pasture before curling itself around you, the first hints of winter chill hidden within causing you to shiver slightly as it kissed your freshly washed skin.
Suddenly, a pair of strong arms encircled your waist, pulling you back against a firm wall of muscle. Leaning your head back, you allowed Rhett to lean his chin on your shoulder. For several minutes, the two of you stood there in complete silence, just staring off into the distance as the sun sank lower and lower, causing the sky to morph between the entire spectrum of colors.
As the clouds above began to take on a darker hue and the first stars began to shine through, you sighed, “It’s so beautiful, isn’t it?”
“You sure are.” His voice was like a rumble deep in his chest that vibrated through your body.
You rolled your eyes as you playfully swatted your hand back against him. “I’m serious, Rhett.”
“So am I,” he whispered as his lips brushed softly against your ear. Then he lifted his head and took in the sight before you. “But you’re right. It is somethin’ to see. I guess I just got so used to it, I never take the time to pay attention anymore.”
“I could see this every night for the rest of my life and I don’t think I could ever get tired of it,” you murmured contently. The warmth of being wrapped in Rhett’s arms had taken that slight chill from your skin, making the peaceful moment all the more perfect.
However, your perfect moment was shattered seconds later as Rhett softly asked, “Does that mean you don’t want to leave like we talked about?”
Sighing, you said, “That’s the great thing about the sun, Rhett. It follows you wherever you go. We don’t have to be on this ranch to watch the sunset together.” He nodded softly in agreement, his chin brushing lightly against the side of your head, but you could feel the way his body sagged slightly at the statement.
Turning to face him, his hands slipping down to wrap around your hips, you said, “I know what they mean to you, but you can’t stay here forever. Perry got his own place when he and Rebecca got married. I know we aren’t there yet, but we will be soon. And I’m not saying we have to leave Wabang. I just want a place that’s just ours. Where we don’t have to worry about who is home or if we’re being too loud or if someone left the bathroom door unlocked when we are in the shower.”
Rhett’s cheeks flushed and you knew he was replaying that faithful afternoon in his head. As mortifying as it had been, at least Perry had been the one to walk in instead of his daughter. That was not something you wanted to have to explain to a kid.
Reaching up, you cupped his face between your hands and tilted his head so you were staring into his eyes. “But… if this is what you really want. For us to stay here under your parents’ roof, I’ll do it.”
Rhett’s brow furrowed, his eyes searching yours for some sign you didn’t mean what you were saying. “Really? But you said you hated it here.”
“I don’t hate it. It’s just not what I imagined for our future.”
“What did you imagine?”
Smiling, you released your hold on his face and wrapped your arms around his waist instead. With your face pressed against his chest, you said, “I don’t know. A little place closer to town with a backyard where our future kids and dogs could play.”
“Kids and dogs? Since when did I agree to either of those things?” Rhett asked, but you heard the laughter in his tone.
“Oh yes, didn’t you know? We’re gonna have 10 kids and 12 dogs and we are naming them all Rhett junior,” you teased.
“Even the girls?”
“Especially the girls.”
“Damn,” he whistled. “Gonna get mighty confusin’ after a while.”
“That is true.” You pretended to reconsider. “Okay, how about 2 or 3 kids and a few dogs? And they can all have their own unique names.”
“That sounds like heaven, sweetheart.” He paused and when he spoke again, his happy, playful tone had faded. “But I just don’t know about right now. With winter comin’, we need to get everythin’ ready for the snow and there’s extra feedin’s for the cattle. I just…. They need me here right now.”
“And I don’t?” You closed your eyes and counted to ten trying to keep your anger in check. But even then, there was a sharp bite to your tone as you said, “I just wish you would stop trying to make them happy because, I’m sorry, Rhett, but no matter what you do, they’re never gonna appreciate you the way they should. It’s just not gonna happen.” You lifted your head to stare at his face. “So for once, think about what you want, not about what they want, or even about what I want. What do you want?”
Rhett bowed his head until his forehead rested against yours. “I want you. I want you and those kids and the dogs. I wanna start our family together, I wanna grow old together, and I wanna never live another day without you.”
He pressed his lips against yours and you melted, all the residual frustration left in your body evaporating in an instant. Your hand slid up the back of his neck to thread into his hair as he dipped you back slightly so you were bent over the porch railing as you lay limply in his arms. His kisses began to travel south, first across your jaw, then down the curve of your neck, until he reached the swell of your breast.
You moaned softly as he pulled the neck of your shirt down, exposing your chest to the cool night air. His hand started to slip into the waistband of your shorts and– Bang!
Both of you bolted upright at the sound of the porch door slamming shut. You had gotten lucky as the newcomer hadn’t turned on the porch light and between Rhett’s broad frame blocking most of you from view and the encroaching darkness of night, you had time to readjust your clothes before Cecilia got close enough to see what you were doing. When your chest was properly covered, Rhett suddenly spun you around so you were now standing in front of him, a barrier between him and his mother.
If she noticed how flustered and out of breath you both seemed, she didn’t comment on it. “Hey, kids. Dinner will be ready in about five minutes, so come wash up.”
“Thanks. We’ll be right in.” You leaned back against Rhett and immediately had to stifle a giggle as you realized why he had practically thrown you in front of him. You shifted your weight from one leg to the other, using the movement to hide the fact you rubbed your ass against the bulge in Rhett’s jeans. His nails dug into your arm and you had to bite your lip to stop another giggle from escaping.
Cecilia gave you both a strange look, but just turned and went back into the house without another word. As soon as she was gone, you burst out laughing. Rhett was not as amused. “I oughta whoop your ass for that.”
You responded by rolling your hips against him again, eliciting a needy moan from your fiance. “You know I would love that, but I don’t think you want your mom to come back to see what is taking us so long.”
Rhett leaned his head against the top of yours and muttered, “You were right. We need our own place…. Now!”
You chuckled as you placed a kiss on his cheek. “Whatever you want, baby. Whatever you want.”

Happy birthday in advance!!
If it's still unclaimed, could you write something for the "swimming" prompt? And if swimming is already spoken for, an alternate choice would be "Because you're a jinx!" While Steve, Eddie, and/or Robin are my favorites, any characters that you are inspired to write about would be great.
Thank you! I hope the entire month of April for you is filled with creativity and fun!! 💜🎉🥳
and a happy birthday to you too! 🎉
When Max thought of what she missed the most in California, the beach was always at the bottom of the list.
Sure, it had been fun when she was younger, but that was when it was just Max and her mom. Before Max started skateboarding and found it more enjoyable than burning her bare feet on the sand.
Before her mom remarried and Billy was supposed to be her brother.
Max always hated Billy. But in the first week after their parents’ marriage, Max had tried to connect with Billy. See if there was something else under his spitfire attitude and resentment.
It was a Saturday morning and Billy was lifting his weights when Max had asked him if they could go to the beach.
She saw how the muscles of his bare back had tensed up. The sudden hitch in his breath. His eyes wide and distant in the mirror.
Then Billy had spun around, one of the weights breaking through the drywall just inches from Max’s head. She had cried out but forced herself to be silent when Billy had yanked her towards him by the collar. He had leaned to her face, spitting at her as he growled, “Don’t ever ask me that again, you little bitch.”
When Billy had let her go, Max ran to her room and muffled her sobbing into her pillows.
Since then, she never looked back once at the beach. Not even years later when they moved out to Hawkins.
But here she was: facing the waves while the heat radiating from the sand made her sweat. It made her faded surgery scars itch and rustled the ever so-deep flares from her metal-fixed bones.
“You doing okay?”
Max tore her gaze away from the waves. Steve was crouching under her umbrella, dripping wet from the ocean. His hair was ridiculously flat. Max bit the inside of her cheek so she wouldn’t laugh yet at the future image of Steve bemoaning the loss of his infamous poofy hair.
“It’s hot,” Max admitted. She used to miss the permanent heat. She never liked the Indiana winters even with the fluffiest coats and sweaters. But now she was starting to pray for a December snowfall.
“Did you need the towels soaked again?” Steve asked.
“Please. I’m dying over here,” Max pleaded. Back in March, she would never make another dead joke. Back in March and April and May, she had to chew the guilt with the shitty hospital foods whenever she caught Steve’s fallen expression. As if Max was a lost ghost and he was the only one who couldn’t get her to the other side.
But March was four years ago. Today was a lazy Saturday in May and Max can make as many dying jokes as she could and it always caught everyone off guard that had them spluttering for breath while Steve and Lucas laughed their asses off.
Suck that, Vecna.
Steve gently pried off the towels that hung on her arms and around her neck. As he dosed them with one of their many cold water bottles, Max stared back out into the ocean.
Mike, Lucas, Robin, and Eddie were in the middle of another ruthless round of water volleyball. Dustin and Erica were picking through the tiny shells on the shore. El and Nancy were sunbathing while Jonathan and Argyle chatted. Mike and Will had walked off somewhere, probably for something gross.
It was nice. But the longer she had stared at the waves, the more they called out to her.
A long time ago, the crashing waves reminded her of the broken drywall and Billy’s spittle on her face. Sometimes she had a nightmare of walking in the water, only for a riptide to pull her out into the vastness where she eventually had no choice but to sink underneath the surface where the infinite darkness greeted her.
Max had assumed that it was literal. But it had turned out that the riptide and darkness was just Billy. And then it became the Upside Down and Starcourt. And then it was Vecna.
She was so scared then.
“I think I want to swim,” Max said.
Steve stopped as he was about to place a freshly-soaked towel on her arm. “Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
Steve made an affirmative noise and stood up. “You need any help?”
“Maybe you piggyback me to the water?” Max gave him the best puppy eyes she could muster. “I don’t wanna burn my feet.”
Steve sighed but she caught him smiling, “And when you want to get out?”
“Steve, it’s a crime to leave a girl in the ocean!”
He laughed as he crouched down in front of her, his arms outstretched to carry Max. She managed to slide out of the beach chair and land firmly on Steve’s back, wrapping her arms around his broad shoulders. The wetness of his back slightly soaked through the front of her baggy shirt and swimsuit.
“God, I swear you used to be lighter,” Steve huffed, already running towards the water.
Max laughed as she bounced, “No, you’re just getting old!”
The waves grew louder as they approached. Max spotted Lucas turning around just in time for Steve to splash into the water, dashing through the first wave. She swore she saw Lucas breaking into a joyous grin and waving to her with a whoop. It made her heart swoon.
Steve stopped suddenly. A particularly large wave was about to break in front of him.
“Ready?”
If he had asked Max that years ago, she would’ve said no. Or maybe she would agree just for the sake of being pulled far from the shore’s reach and accept what waited for her in the depths.
Max said with a grin on her face, “Born ready.”
Steve torpedoed into the wave just as it broke and crashed onto them. Max was immediately plunged into the forgotten warmth of salt water. It went up her nose and she closed her eyes too late so it stung her eyes. She clung tighter around Steve as the water roared in her ears.
When she broke through the surface first, Max’s first reaction was to laugh.
It was kind of dumb to be scared of the ocean after all this time. But it definitely helped when her family was here too.
