Kyoko Kagawa and Kazuo Hasegawa in A Story From Chikamatsu (Kenji Mizoguchi, 1954)
Cast: Kazuo Hasegawa, Kyoko Kagawa, Eitaro Shindo, Eitaro Ozawa, Yoko Minamida. Screenplay: Matsutaro Kawaguchi, Yoshikata Yoda, based on a play by Chikamatsu Monzaemon. Cinematography: Kazuo Miyagawa. Production design: Hisakaza Tsuji. Film editing: Kanji Suganuma. Music: Fumio Hayasaka, Tamezo Mochizuki.
Kenji Mizoguchi's A Story From Chikamatsu, which has also been released under the built-in-spoiler title The Crucified Lovers, is based on Chikamatsu Monzaemon's 18th-century play The Legend of the Grand Scroll-Maker. It's a romantic drama about doomed lovers that Mizoguchi and screenwriters Matsutaro Kawaguchi and Yoshikata Yoda have expanded into a fable about greed, injustice, and the subjugation of women. The lovers don't even start out as lovers, but circumstances force them together. Mohei (Kazuo Hasegawa) is a somewhat overworked apprentice scroll-maker who is thrown together with his master's wife, Osan (Kyoko Kagawa), almost by accident. The master, Ishun (Eitaro Shindo), is a miser and a philanderer, and the circumstances that initially put Mohei and Osan together are almost the stuff of farce: Osan knows that Ishun has been harassing the pretty maid Otama (Yoko MInamida), trying to persuade her to become his mistress, so Osan hides in the young woman's room one night to try to catch her husband in the act. Instead, Mohei goes to Otama's room and is discovered there with Osan. When Ishun finds out he accuses her of adultery, which as we've been shown earlier in the film is a crime punishable by crucifixion. In addition to this crime, Mohei has also been accused of forgery: Ishun had refused to give Osan's brother a loan, so Mohei agreed to help Osan by using Ishun's seal on a receipt, having been assured that the money would be repaid quickly. When confronted with the forgery, Otama intervenes on behalf of Mohei (whom she secretly loves) and says that she asked for the money. The upshot of all this complex of subterfuges, ultimately caused by Ishun's greed and lechery, is that both Osan and Mohei are forced to flee Ishun's household. They determine that suicide would be more honorable than crucifixion, but when they discover that they are in love with each other, they decide that life in hiding would be preferable to death. Things do not go well, of course, but in the end Ishun gets his comeuppance too. There is perhaps a little too much plot and the outcome is foreseeable, but Mizoguchi's mastery of atmosphere, aided by Kazuo Miyagawa's cinematography, lifts the film high above the melodrama. It's at times a strikingly claustrophobic film, whose boxlike interiors sometimes suggest the grids of Mondrian paintings, underscoring the entrapment not only of the lovers but also of those victims of their own avarice, indifference, or subservience who would punish them. When we're not inside, we're on crowded streets, and even when the lovers escape into the countryside, they're adrift on a fog-shrouded lake or framed by the stalks of a bamboo forest, hinting at prison bars. For some reason, perhaps the overcomplexity of the narrative, A Story From Chikamatsu doesn't hold the honored place in the Mizoguchi canon of Ugetsu (1953), The Life of Oharu (1952), or Sansho the Bailiff (1954), but it's still the work of a master filmmaker.

Mackenyu Arata (who became an internationally popular actor for his roles as the main character in the live-action "Knights of the Zodiac(Saint Seiya)The Beginning" movie and ZORO in the live-action "One Piece") and Min Tanaka star in this serious drama series “House of the Owl”about a Japanese, hidden political and financial mastermind known as the "Owl". https://x.com/takigawa_w/status/1790365255169904916?s=46&t=8Vf8aUwk_B-ZbQ5UAGv05w The owl sees everything with eyes that can see anytime, even in the middle of the night. Seventy-year-old charismatic Ryutaro Ohgami (Min Tanaka) has four children. His eldest son, Ichiro (Masanobu Ando), is unreliable, does not get along with his wife, has a Ginza hostess as his mistress, and is planning a new luxury restaurant without borrowing funds from his father so that he can leave his father's influence. Yumiko (Kyoko Hasegawa), the firm eldest daughter, has two seemingly happy children with her handsome trading company man husband, but her husband is doing shady deals (of a different kind than an interpreter for famous Major-League players) behind her back. The second son, Ryu (Mackenyu Arata), does not get along with his father, and after studying in the U.S., he returns to Japan to work for a small non-profit organization without contacting his family. One day, Ryu bumps into a beautiful American woman while jogging in the park, and her phone falls into the street and breaks. Ryu promises to pay for it, and when he asks for the woman's contact information, she gives Ryu her business card, which says "reporter" on it. Risako (Nakata Seina), the youngest and second daughter, aspires to be a singer-songwriter and is already 25 years old, but she has a natural singing voice and talent for songwriting and is expected to make a major debut. Risako tells her father, Ryutaro, about her dream, but Ryutaro is afraid that Risako will be swallowed up by the darkness of the entertainment world. One night, the son of Takeuchi (Masatoshi Nakamura), a candidate for the next prime minister, is killed after a bar fight. The son was also suspected of being on drugs. The murder suspect is caught, but "commits suicide" in jail. Overall, the story has a cool taste and a serious development. A scandal involving a politician, Ichiro's mistress, Yumiko's husband's ruinous dealings, Ryu starting a relationship with a beautiful reporter, Risako going for her dream, and their lives are vividly depicted. Hisako Manda's restrained performance as Ryutaro's wife, Kyoko, shines. The show's portrayal of the Tokyo club (the one with hostesses)scene, with Tae Kimura's performance as a hostess, adds a touch of realism that makes the show feel all the more authentic. Tae Kimura's performance as the hostess Ryutaro values as a source of information has a realistic feel as if she actually works at a club in Tokyo. What sets "House of the Owl" apart from other Japanese TV drama series is its serious, captivating depiction of the family's struggles, without resorting to over-the-top acting or exaggerated music. There is none of the over-the-top music, over-the-top acting, or over-the-top (unintelligible) jokes that are common in Japanese dramas, nor are there any male celebrities from famous entertainment companies that have caused scandals in Japan, nor any female casts from dozens of female idol group members performing not-so-good songs and dances. Thus, we can calmly observe the whereabouts of this charismatic, mastermind owl, Ryutaro Oogami, and his family. And just as real owls have natural enemies, those who are after "owls" are also heavily represented. If you have watched the episodes carefully, you may be shocked by the series of events that occur in the latter half of the season. The series culminates in a shocking series of events that will leave you eagerly anticipating the next season. This is a must-watch for anyone looking for a drama that offers a glimpse into the complex lives of a family caught up in the world of politics and finance. I can't wait for the second season. #HouseOfTheOwl

Sooooo... This took much longer than expected in terms of research. And just as long to rank. HOWEVER!-
*Drum rolls*
The 40 Mom Tier List:
Ranking the Mom's of the 40 Characters!
S Tier:
Tamako Yukihira - Taught her son that making mistakes is part of success, introduced her son to a new passion for cooking, etc. Cool Mom points for sure.
Rachel Phantomhive - Even she had asthma, she tried her best for her family while she alive. Took care of her children, disciplined them when needed, and took joy when her sister played with them when she couldn't. She was even there for sister when her husband died and tried her best to cheer her up.
Hiroko Kastuki - She's a caring and supportive Mom. AND SHE'S ALIVE! S Tier for sure. :D
Hinata's Mom - Same as Katsuki's Mom. Caring and supportive. We like supportive Mom's in this household.
Nanako Hasegawa - Top Tier Mom, supportive of her son's passions and offered advice during his feed with Reki. She even asks for advice from her late husband's photo when it comes to her son, which shows how much the two mean to her.
Kie Kamado - Took care, supported, and raised of all her children while she was alive, so that counts for something, right? S Tier.
Kotoko Fujioka - Someone Haruhi tries to model after, so that counts for something.
Mitsuko Serinuma - Supportive and caring of her daughter and son, especially with Kae's biy troubles. She even supports her otaku's shenanigans without much of a fuss from what I've seen. Of course, she got worried when she locked herself in her room, though.
Senna - Cares for her child avatar or not. Supports her even though it sometimes means letting her go perform her duties as the Avatar, no matter how dangerous.
Trisha Eldric - CARED for her family and supported them even though she was mourning her husband all the while.
Sachiko Fujinuma - Known to be caring and dedicated to her son.
A Tier:
Ursa - Look, aprt from taking care of Zuko however she could, she was also part of how he remained strong after all those years and taught him that trying even though things get tough was a strength of his. But Azula. Enough said there. Plus, if you want to include the comics, then much more of a reason may be.
Inko Midoriya - She takes care of her son and supports his decisions even though it takes convincing sometimes, say how she wanted to keep him from U.A. that one time. Buuut, as much as it pains me, she did sort of unintentionally cause some issues to form in Deku the day he was prescribed as quirkless. So A Tier instead of S Tier.
Kurumi Saiki: Now, she's personally one of my favorites; she is part of why Kusuo rarely ever uses his powers for wrong reasons. BUT, she also sometimes fails to be an actual parent to both her children who were probably barely raised, if at all because of their fastmature news compared to her and Kuniharu. Not to say she didn't try, but considering Kusuke and Kusuo's sibling hood, Kurumi get A Tier. Still like her though.
Sukuyo Mankanshoku - Now correct me if I'm wrong, you guys (I wanna finish this fast, and I've hardly watched Kill La Kill before sorry), but she seems like a sweet mom. She takes care of her childern, discipline, and even makes meals fo Ryūko as if she wer her own. But she has shown to be a bit oblivious like Kurumi when it comes to the safety of her children, so that's probably one of the only reasons she's not in S Tier.
Kyoko Honda - Reeeeally wanted to give her S Tier, but even if she helped form Torhu moral compass and all that with her wisdom, she did go into a depressive state once her husband passed away leading her into neglecting Tohru and even considering suicide. So, A Tier is the least to do here.
Mrs. Kageyama - A little overworking and doesn't know that her son is hanging with Reagen of all people in all honesty(no offense to Reagen dudes), but supportive.
Kuchel Ackerman - Worked as a prostitute sooo... She cared for Levi, she did, but if only she reached out to someone to take care of him while she was getting sicker. Not saying it was without reason, but she unintentionally did leave her child to starve if it weren't Kenny. Well, I'm not giving her B Tier, but I'm not giving her D Tier either.
B Tier:
Maho Fujiwara - I didn't find much on her and I've never watched much of Love is War, but since she's diplomat, overprotective, and Chika barely mentions her, Imma say she tried her best, but could do better. Feel free to tell me if I should move her up or not.
C Tier:
Yugi/Hanako's Mother- Now I tried to research about her but... well after her son left, well she sort of-... Well, committed sewerslide. Yikes. She only gets D Tier because she didn't treat them like nothing while she took care of them.
D Tier:
Hiromi Shiota - Projected her desires onto her son by making him present as a girl so that he could live a life she wanted. Not very caring or nurturing if you ask me. Then again, she not F Tier.
Leano - Chose her appreance over Legoshi. If you know then you know.
F Tier:
Raygo: No. Just no. NO. (If you know then you know)
Isabella: Season 2 didn't do it for me, so she gets F Tier as she deserves.
Kikyo Zoldyck - Do I really need to explain this one? Do I REALLY need to explain this one? N-O.
Iruma's Mother - Yeah, if you read the first ranking of the Dad's, you know what she did. No S Tier for her.
Bonus, some honorable mentions here:
Kya, Midori Nendo, Mrs. Nanase, and Mrs. Neogi
@the-ravenclaw-werewolf , you like? Please help me fix the ranking if you feel I was too harsh/soft on one of these Mom's. Remember to take a break please! :D

Sera Myu Music Festival 2022 Blu-Ray
Event was held at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Stellar Ball in Tokyo from November 17th – 20th, 2022.
I missed it by less than two weeks since I wasn't in Japan until December of that year. I doubt I would have stood a chance getting tickets.
Can we also talk about how excited I am to have Japanese Blu-Rays being the same region where I live? Makes it so much easier!!!
Back cover of jacket.
Performance booklet and musical performance dice.
Disc set. The performance on Disc 1. Bonus features on Disc 2. I love how all of them are also huge fans of Sailor Moon. Soundtrack for musical on CD 1. Special performances for the different guests on CD 2.
I haven't see a Sera Myu in a while so a lot of the music was new to me even if it had been out for a few years.
Sailor Moon: Riko Tanaka
Sailor Chibi Moon: Chise Niitsu
Riko Tanaka has a great voice.
Sailor Mercury: Kaon Maekawa
Sailor Mars: Rei Kobayashi
I can't be the only amused that the actress' first name is Rei, right?
Sailor Jupiter: Kisara Matsumura
Sailor Venus: Marin Makino
Sailor Uranus: Shinjyu Terada
Sailor Neptune: Ayana Kinoshita
Sailor Pluto: Chisato Minami
Sailor Saturn: Yuzu Ide
Tuxedo Mask: Riona Tatemichi
Princess Snow Kaguya: Sayaka Okamura
Luna: Yune Sakurai
Human Luna: MARISA
I was fortunate to see Riona Tatemichi perform as part of the America Tour for the Super Live in 2019. I really loved seeing the bonus section with the senshi that were also on tour.
Guest Performances varied by date and time:
November 17 Show 1: Akiko Kosaka, ANZA
November 17 Show 2: Akiko Kosaka, ANZA, Toshino Akamine, Misako Iwana, Emi Kuriyama, Akiko Miyazawa
The original Sera Myu cast performed La Solider on the first night. Loved it!
November 18 Show 1: Tomomi Kasai, Cocona, Yui Hasegawa, Takae Obana, Hoshinami
November 18 Show 2: Shu Shiotsuki, Sayaka Fujioka
November 19 Show 1: Reona Hayashi, Samejima, Yui, Kyoko Ninomiya, Mayuka Ida, Yuko Nakanishi
