"another charles pole and max win" me personally i know the only reason charles is fighting versus the rockship that is redbull its purely because of how well he manages the car and how much he has to fight it for it to be able to be competitive and guess what! is not enough! because the sf-23 is still a tractor and rbr have won almost every race this year! and they've dominated the past 3 seasons! and i think the amount of poles he has had just shows how good of a driver he is and the potential he has to show when he finally has a car that will fight alongside him, not against him

McLaren fucked it up today, there’s no doubt about that. To give the driver in p2 preferential stops and then act shocked that the undercut that almost always works, worked, is insane. And with such an insane strategy blunder, they put themselves in a lose lose situation.

Oscars say back whilst Lando gets the preferred strategy on multiple occasions and never pushed it or questioned it. Maybe he would’ve asked to swap places back had McLaren never mentioned it, but it would seem out of character.

Let Lando win the race and they’d have tons of people calling them out for blatant favouritism and saying they robbed Oscar of his first win. Let Oscar win and you’ve got the current situation.

Oscar has shown immense consistency and incredible performance for a driver who’s only in his second season, the fact he is that close to Lando and is capable of winning races is a testament to his skill and talent. Don’t let McLaren’s mistakes distract from the incredible driving we witnessed from both of them today. Both drivers are Grand Prix winners, both drivers are capable of maximising points and if they continue like this there’s a genuine shot at the constructors, but maximising points relies on both drivers trusting each other and trusting the team around them.

McLaren fucked up, don’t use that to take away from the drivers.

Scenario: its the qatar grand prix race weekend, and baby piastri is making her first appearance at a race. (requested)

Pairing: oscar piastri x fem!reader

A/N: this was a CHALLENGE considering the lack of content involving oscar with kids, but i think it turned out okay! god bless girl dad oscar 🫶🏻

— SATURDAY: SPRINT RACE —

“There is our race winner,” the commentator narrates as Oscar gets out of his car. Off comes his helmet, then his bevalavca. “Smiles all around for the Piastri family as his wife congratulates him,” he continues. You smile at Oscar, holding Joey with one arm as you embrace him. He wraps his arm around you, the other going around your daughter, careful not to hit you or her with the helmet in his hand. “You did so good, Osc,” you tell him, pressing a kiss to his cheek as you step back. Joey reaches out to Oscar, and he takes her into his hold, one of the Mclaren crew members taking his helmet and head piece off of his hands.

“There goes baby Piastri, into the arms of her father. What a sweet sight. Alright, post races interviews are hosted by Mark Webber, and we will see you guys in the cooldown room before that.”

“Into the cooldown room we go and,” the commentator pauses, laughing at the sight, “There goes Joey, chasing down Oscar, as usual,” he says. Oscar smiles to himself, knowing his daughter is right behind him. Despite the adrenaline of winning the race, the Qatar heat had not been kind, and he decides do sprawl out on the floor, the cool ground soothing his hot skin. “Max joins Oscar on the floor, and as expected, there goes Joey, mimicking her dad,” the commentator laughs again as Joey lays down in the same position as Oscar.

The older australian smiles, handing Oscar a mic. “Well, who’s this little lady?” Mark asks, despite being Joey’s godfather. It’s evident that he’s no stranger to the young girl, as a wife smile spreads on her face, chubby cheek’s prominent due to the action. Mark smiles and reaches out, tickling her arm. She giggles and curls into Oscar, instinctively tugging her hand away. Mark laughs, then turns his attention to Oscar for the actual interview, all while sweet his sweet little Joey is snuggled into him.

Charles on the difficulty of Max winning 3x WDC in a row

🆑: definitely is extremely hard. I haven't achieved one... yet, of course, the target is to achieve many, starting with the first one as soon as possible. But in the meantime, Max achieved to win two, and the third is just a matter of time. He deserves it. He had another incredible season. He's been there in every condition, on every track. Yes, they have the best car. But he's doing an exceptional job. He just deserves it, because he's the one driving the best out there at the moment.

Lando helped Oscar by holding Pérez back. And everybody thinks it's a normal teamwork. And yea you see? That's what "helping" ur teammate is. And that's what we AND the team wanted from Oscar but Oscar fans were all acting like "helping" means Oscar should park his car and let lando walk all over him. I literally had to tell them many times that McLaren historically has never been a team like Redbull or Mercedes to do that. They won't let lando just take Oscar's rightful wins. "If lando needs help from his teammate then he doesn't deserve the wdc" lmaoo now would u say that Oscar did not deserve the win yesterday? Helping just means holding cars back, no unnecessary teammate battles when there are cars that would take advantage of the situation etc.

I love Oscar, for goodness sake he's my favourite driver and IM SO HAPPY HE WON!!!!! But it wasnt Lando's fault what happened, those team orders were shit and what happened on the race will obviously put a bad taste on both of their drivers' mouth

While I do think Oscar deserved the win since he drove very well today, imo after that shitshow that was that second pitstop, Lando also had every right to keep p1. Its fucked to prioritize a driver and then forcing him to swap with his teammate

We cant forget that Lando is atm p2 on the drivers championship, and yes there's a big gap to Max but every point counts. I've been seeing people calling Lando selfish for what happened and yea if he had taken the win he would have been selfish, but then we do admit that past WDC were selfish and praise their doings. Why do we negatively accuse only Lando of being selfish?? Its hypocritical.

Lando could have been really selfish and taken the win and the points for his place in the championship, but he didnt and that shows how much he cares about his teammate. Many drivers, like Max let's be honest, wouldn't have done for their teammate what Lando did today. And maybe Lando took alot of time to do the swap but we need to recognize that he wasnt put in a easy position, he had a decent gap when Oscar left the pitlane and had a chance to get more points, how many drivers would have jumped to that chance?

Its McLaren's fault period. Oscar isnt blaming Lando and Lando isnt blaming Oscar, there's no need to make drama where it doesnt exist. McLaren screwed both drivers and in fact Lando is more disappointed with his race start than with what happened later on.

The radios that were shared between the pitwall and the drivers weren't pretty and shows how much the team was at fault. Lando wasnt made aware that he would undercut Oscar, then he was given a "deal" that he would swap positions when his teammate reached him, ofc he would make a gap like any other racing driver would do, and then he was frankly guilt tripped in live tv to let Oscar pass through. I wouldn't be happy if that happened to me and I dont think anyone else would be.

BOTH drivers were put on a tough position. McLaren did shitty strategy calls and then tried to fix the things on the worst way possible, playing with their drivers' feelings, ofc Lando will be pissed!! This was weird and this shouldn't be what racing is.

Once again I'll say that I'm very happy for Oscar's win, I'm very proud of him and I think he totally deserves it!!! Still I think we all should acknowledge that McLaren screwed both of them and that it's normal they aren't feeling well with how the race ended, we should let them sort everything out at their own pace and not be accusing or talking badly about any of them now.

Now we need to wait and see if this decisions will affect anything in the long term but we'll see.

I've never seen so many people against someone chasing a championship. Even in 2021 there were plenty of Max fans. Norris only has his cult of fangirls, who are going to win him DOTD champion, but he doesn't have the support of anyone who actually knows wheel. I’m surprised many ppl only recognize shipping drivers who are really good friends irl otherwise they call it silly fans’ fabrication.

Lestappen is the type of ship in which Max and Charles don’t need to pretend to be intimate friends but they both care each other so much. This has begun from their childhood rivalry in karting times. Caring doesn’t definitely means they care about each other’s daily life. They recognize each other’s capacity that “you deserve to be my No.1 rival forever.” You can find many cases that they care much more about each other’s performance (even Red Bull recognized it!) and their desire to compete with each other. That’s their biggest tense. They’re not friends but still each other’s biggest fan.

Let’s speak honestly: one of the best Grand Prix so far!

Quite incredible that after the whole conspiracy theory about Mercedes sabotaging Lewis in favour of Russell, they f*cked up George strategy (hard tyres, really?) and scored a podium with Lewis. Anyway, happy for him! Can’t wait to see him in Ferrari next year!

The bagarre between Lewis and Carlos: it was a fair enough move. I care about rules and how they were written but it’s racing. You must race. Hard racing is not “illegal”.

Ferrari disappointed me too much. I can understand a bad race (Canada) but two in a row? After bringing improvements this weekend? There is something to change and it must be changed NOW! I wasn’t delusional, I wasn’t expecting Ferrari to win a WDC nor a WCC but to secure the position as second on the podium was the bare minimum. In my very personal opinion.

Aston Martin is even there? Hello? Guys you have Fernando Alonso, make him win again, thanks! Apparently Lance is asking his dad to reach to his wallet and bring home Adrian Newey. At this point I’m not sure Adrian is enough to make them win. So sorry for them, I like Fernando and he deserves better.

Nice work from Alpine, still a lot to improve but hope to see what will happens to the French.

Very disappointed also by Williams and Racing Bulls, Albon has showed his potential, deserves another chance. Hope they will give him a better car. For RB the car was just off, too difficult il for both Ricciardo and Tsunoda to show their worth.

in relation to your post talking about how daniel absolutely deserved the wdc shouts he (deservedly) got another interesting tweet the other day was "is prime ric better than what leclrec has shown so far" and while there were (pleasantly) many people agreeing that yes, prime daniel was better, so many people also kept talking about how he couldn't touch leclrec, which goes on to show you recency bias is crazy!

Ah yes I have seen that tweet the other day. I was also pleasantly surprised at the amount of people agreeing that prime Daniel was better. I think one of the replies pointed out that the only thing that Charles has over Daniel is his one-lap pace, which I completely agree with.

I have to admit that I am a pretty new fan, so I cannot objectively say who between Daniel and Charles was better in 2020. But I feel that people rating Charles highly come to a large extent from him beating Seb at Ferrari, but that was a Seb who had been worn down by the years of frustration there while Daniel beat the Seb who was still young and was coming off winning those four championships.

I know Charles fans are going to come at me, but it must be acknowledged that he can sometimes be error-prone (tho admittedly his bad luck rivals Daniel’s), something which Daniel never was at Red Bull. The only glaring bozo moment of Daniel’s at RB that I can think of is him tapping the walls during Q2 in Baku in 2017.

Another comment that I recently saw on twitter was how whenever Daniel sniffs out the possibility of a win, it’s like something comes over him and it’s like nothing can stop him from getting that win. It’s like he’s said, he’s never left a win on the table and I think this is something very few drivers have. I don’t think even certain world champions could pull the wins he did and in the circumstances that he won them in.

The reason why we still get Monza 2021 discourse in big year 2024 is because a) McLaren hasn’t since been able to win another one and b) Daniel had no business winning it for the season he was having. And yet, when he saw the opportunity for that win, it’s almost scary to see that calm focus with which he went after it.

very late bc i had a busy week but belgium gp/mid-week news round-up:

glad for charles' pole, it's always good to see him do what he knows best but frustrated at the amount of lost positions. lots of work during the summer break for sure.

still, i think the gp went for the best only because i don't think anyone was happy. mclaren suffered quite a bit with lando down there, red bull clearly don't have the race pace to go 11-1 in three laps anymore and mercedes who were supposed to maximise their points streak in relation to the rest of the top 4 actually managed to lose a double podium and get a dsq. looking at it, really the team that should be the happiest is ferrari who somehow managed to get a podium they didn't really deserve lol

idk i think i had more respect for james vowles but then kinda realised he's not that special (although being a very methodical person and this being really helpful for williams in their rise) but the way he sold out sargent when he theoretically kept touting how much he believed him was nasty.

now, wheatley leaving red bull is a big blow. he's really in the known of the regs and that's how they caught so many teams slipping in the past (and how they frauded their way into a wdc in 21). he def deserved a slot as a team principal at some point, but there would be no way red bull would want to promote him when he's the best at what he does and horner is winning the arm wrestle atm.

wheatley + binotto at audi is smth to pay attention now. binotto's at a more engineering role apparently, so he's also in his element. let's wait and see!
