Reverse unpopular opinions: Anne of Burgundy and John?🦉
Theyyy <3
Everything I read about Anne gives the image of someone who would've been really sweet and as a Medieval Women Enjoyer I support her in bagging that squeaky toy of a man 💜🦉
John often forms this image- especially when I read the Shakespeare plays- of this very ends-justify-the-means, no-nonsense kind of person, so the details of their dynamic provide a fun new dimension to personality
^ this is so sickeningly sweet *voice crack* what the fuck
Also I know they were considered largely successful in their time, but rip Anne and John you would have killed it as modern era with the whole Double Income No Kids thing you had going on
Reverse Unpopular Opinion Meme, send me a topic and I have to be nice about it

She speaks English well but her accent marks her out, he speaks English well but his accent marks him out. They are outsiders, strangers in a land not their own. Her fingertips ache to touch him, to hold his hand and feel that she is not alone.
the world anew by heartofstanding
This one line is a rather beautiful summation of why the beginnings of Catherine de Valois and Owen Tudor's relationship is so relatable. It is so human, that need for connection in a strange land.

Young Mary de Bohun and Henry V look quite similar to each other ( the former is from the Psalter of Mary de Bohun c. 1380 and the latter is from the Records of the Duchy of Lancaster c. 1402). I now adopt @heartofstanding 's headcanon in her fics about Harry resembling Mary the most amongst the Lancaster brothers.

Is the Edward II bio by Kathryn Warner worth a read (despite the "Edward survives" theory)? I read some articles on Edward (especially about his representation in fiction and how homophobia works on this) by her on her website and I thought she seems to be someone with an interesting perspective on Edward... Should I try?
Hi! I'm really sorry, I haven't read her biography on Edward II so I can't comment. @heartofstanding have you read it/would you recommend it?

A Histories Ficathon XIV story for @heartofstanding ❦
The rumours are true: something is not quite right about Queen Margaret of Anjou. It took him walking into her den to find out.

@heartofstanding tagged me in this meme months ago and unfortunately it took me this long to get to it because I had a mild crisis over how long it's been since I've read a novel, let alone one that I loved 😅 so this is nine of my favourite novels (not books, because if I included manga/short stories/comics/etc this would be giant)
0The Picture of Dorian Gray -- Oscar Wilde// Pyrrhus-- Mark Merlis//The Scarecrow--Ronald Hugh Morrieson//Unnatural History--Kate Osman//Tunnels of Blood--Darren Shan//The Coffin Dancer--Jeffery Deaver//Hero--Perry Moore//Frankenstein--Mary Shelley//One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest-- Ken Kasey

Since I had to answer this, I'm making you answer this: rank the Lancasterlings in order of your interest. 😈
oh nooo you can't do this to me 😭 it's hard 😭
Probably Humphrey lmao. He's got so many fun things going on with him: survivor's guilt, younger sibling idolizing his one of his older brothers only to unhealthily project that onto said brothers' son, super divorced™, tragic ending on and on and etc. It's fun to compare the way I was introduced to him (via Shakespeare plays) where he was mostly sweet and well-meaning verses irl Home Fry who is, to borrow academic language, kind of a messy bitch. It's a fun contradiction that's fun to play around with, honestly! Also, given my own interest area, I think he deserves props for being a last standing youngest brother royal uncle who didn't give into the darkness and disappear his nephew.
John. He's been somewhat a pet of mine since I first saw my first production of Henry IV. I just think he's neat :) I feel like you can also have a lot of fun with the irl guy, (which we often do 😂 ) There's also some accusations of him being kind of cringefail from the French perspective which is fun
Philippa! She makes me wish I was more acquainted with Sweden's situation in the 1400's, since it seems like she left behind a good amount of documentation to learn more about her :')
Blanche. I wish we knew more about her... I also wish she could've killed Ludwig with hammers.
Thomas. There's such open expanse when it comes to him, but I feel like there's quite of bit of ...not really knowing what to do with him I guess? Even with Billy Shakes, he shows up to say a few lines in Henry 4 and then dip 😭 But I think he's a fun additional mirror to hold up to Hal to examine how they're similar and different :')
Henry V. Legitimately interesting! Dad issues, guilt complexes up to here, surrogate dad/eldest daughter-son. I feel though, given his status as an English king, it doesn't really matter if I contribute to any interest in him myself, even though I do think he's a fun squeaky toy, given that generally he'll always be first to get it anyway ¯_(ツ)_/¯

last line tag game
@oldshrewsburyian didn't officially tag me to post the last line I wrote in my most active WIP but she said you could consider yourself tagged if you want so I'm gonna do it anyway.
And Johann had stared fixedly at his shoes as he pronounced the words, for he had known even then that they were true, before he had ever known why.
Pre-university Johann Faust was a sad little noodle who definitely took the Lutheran catechism very seriously, except for the hopeful parts.
Tagging @themalhambird, @skeleton-richard, @heartofstanding, @heroticisms and anyone else who wants to do it (obvs if I tagged you and you don't want to you don't have to!)

It's from my new ficlet series "Devils Torn Asunder" for Frau Faust.
I think all my writer friends have been tagged, so whoever wants to do this, you're tagged.

1, 9, 10 and 15 for the ask game!
1: Recommend your favourite fic ever.
well, that's one hell of a question! perhaps the only must-read for doctor who is Time v.3.0 by Teyke, a haunting and terrifying fic about the time war. nonetheless, it is not necessarily my favourite fic... i honestly don't know what that is. In Due Time We Shall Reap by Thascalos is beyond explicit, but, well, formative influences (aka 'that thing you read over and over again at A Certain Age') are formative influences whether or not you want them to be, i suppose. don't bury me by petroltogo is haunting.
as far as humour goes, The Grand Sci-Fi Fuckathon of Hitler and Stalin by yonderdarling is the funniest thing i've ever read. yes, really... don't drink whilst you read it. runners-up for Funniest are: How Now, Brown Monkey by Liadt and The King of Tallstoria by the_alchemist. all i can really say, i suppose, is don't give medieval kings candy crush.
it's unfinished, but i'm currently putting The Red Rose of York by medieval_scribe up there. Like Gods by Ade. Continuitas by skazka. Mary on a cross by Neolina_W. thou child of my right hand by heartofstanding. (shattering! i am not sure at this point that i am capable of identifying a favourite piece!) Periapsides by avani. No Indifferent Judge by edwardianspinsteraunt. sincerest apologies if you have not, for some strange reason, whiled away the hours haunted by baldwin iv.
of comfort and despair by damnedscribblingwoman is definitely an all-time favourite, and i really mean it this time.
anyway, here is the actual answer: Queenmaker by La Reine Noire (lareinenoire). delightfully fucked up.
9: Recommend a fic from your first fandom.
Le Donne Che Piangono (The Weeping Women) – The ‘Thrice Cursed’ Remix by aralias. The Boy Who Killed Time by Netgirl_y2k. , said the nightmare by patrexes. Burn Your Biographies by JaneTurenne. (i promise these are categorised. they really are.)
The Chronicles of The Oakdean-Smiths by PinkPunk010. Any Port Manteau In A Storm by yonderdarling. (actually, i recommend all their works, along with MayFairy. speaking of...) The Definition Of Trouble by evilqueenofgallifrey (MayFairy). probably not quite so good as i remember it, but the only good execution of 'twelve/missy lovechild' i've seen, so...
17 Reasons Why Romana Is Better Than The Doctor by calapine.
Girl in Every Port by tree_and_leaf. No Sacrifice: the What Are We Doing In Love? Remix by hhertzof. A Life Full of Compromises by paranoidangel. read the old stuff. it usually pays off.
did this say 'a fic'? suddenly i can't read.
10: Recommend a fic from your latest fandom!
What Twisted Webs We Weave by The_Purple_Opossum. obviously.
15: Recommend a gen fic!
Thick Skull by thehappybones. both sweet and inventive
