HeIsTheArtist Takes a Cinematic Approach on “Dreaming In Emerald City” EP

Christian R&B artist HeIsTheArtist is proud to announce the release of his new EP “Dreaming in Emerald City”, available worldwide on July 28th. Taking influence from legendary movies “The Wizard of Oz” and “The West Side Story”, the singer-songwriter packs this 6-track EP full of Broadway-style Neo-Soul with a contemporary twist. The EP kicks off with a cover of “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows” by Judy Garland and Heistheartist’s original song “Mi Amor” which pays homage to the movies and also introduces the concept of showing empathy towards those with a desire for something better. This is followed by the heartfelt covers of “Lovin’You” by Minnie Riperton and “I Believe in You and Me” by Whitney Houston, to inspire listeners to find love right where they are and keep close to their heart’s desires. The EP also features the anthemic covers of “Diamonds” by Rihanna and “Brown Skin” by India.Arie, to remind listeners to love themselves regardless of societal standards. Heistheartist (He Is The Artist) is an American Christian singer-songwriter from Central Islip, NY. Formerly a secular neo-soul singer signed to "Bentley Records" under his biological name "LeeMann Bassey," Heistheartist discovered that his true calling was with the Lord after hearing an inspiring sermon by TD Jakes online one day. That day he was inspired to teach the world about the Lord, like TD Jakes did with his Sermon, but through music.

His single, “#Boom (Remastered)” hit #1 on the #Christian / #Gospel charts in #SouthAfrica, followed by a #1 iTunes Jazz mash-up of Britney Spears and Snoh Aalegra. The instrumental, “Snake Charmer”  was HITA’s first release of 2021. It reached #8 on the UK EDM iTunes chart. His latest single, “Boom (DooWop Version)” features an incredible intro vocal by Take 6’s Joel Kibble.  It’s out now on MTS Records.

Right off the bat, HeIsTheArtist is notable for his voice. As a singer, he has developed a unique touch, inspired by all the performers that he grew up loving and respecting, as well as perfecting his techniques over many, many years. The artist offers a very passionate take on his sound, and he brings a unique voice to his music. Borrowing from genres such as soul, R&B, and even Pop, this talented singer is able to conjure up a passionate and one-of-a-kind feel. 

"Dreaming in Emerald City" is a wonderful EP, which stands out as a perfect example of what it means to make music that feels personal but also catchy and easy to relate to. The six songs on the EP are very diverse. On the one hand, HeIsTheArtist brings his vocal delivery to the table and allows his soulful technique to unfold. On the other, the instrumentals are inspired by jazz and fusion, creating a smooth and attractive listening experience. The production is beautifully tailored to the sound of the singer's vocals. The instrumentals and the vocals merge well, and the songs feel very well-arranged and constructed to perfection. One of the highlights, “Diamonds,”is a soothing song with a mellow guitar sound and the artist’s signature smooth vocals. There is also room for two masterful acoustic songs, “Lovin’ You,” and “I Believe In You and Me” (Originally made famous by The Four Tops and Whitney Houston with their respective renditions)

Jazz is a genre that is now synonymous with sophistication, while soul is a lot more about instinct and emotion. With this EP, HeIsTheArtist was able to combine both approaches into his one-of-a-kind formula, which creates a very soothing and interesting sound. In conclusion, this EP is quite special because it captures influences from many different styles while also giving people a genuine insight into what this artist is all about, what drives him, and what inspires him to create music that feels like a mirror to his soul.
