Pinoy Otaku Festival (POF) 2019: Asobu will take place at the Trade Hall of Robinsons Novaliches in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines on May 17-19, 2019. The event will feature special guests from both Japan and the Philippines.

Among the guests are Yohgen, Gekitora, Hiro Saeki, Kazuki, Gloco Gaming and Yu-En Cosplay. The event will also feature Filipino bands which are also into both Philippine and Japanese pop cultures namely FREETIX, Kanjiru, Neko Hunter Band and Kulaspiro.

Ariel Villasanta will grace Pinoy Otaku Festival (POF) 2019: Asobu, as well. He is the other half of the comedy duo Ariel and Maverick with Maverick Relova.

The duo that pioneered the comedy reality-show in Philippine TV has an upcoming movie titled “The Untold Story of the Kings of Reality Shows.” Villasanta  stars in “Totoo TV,” “Mommy Elvie’s Problematic Show” and “Pinoy Meets World.”

Moreover, Pinoy Otaku Festival (POF) 2019: Asobu will highlight the world of idols as it rises in the Philippines with Aidoru Sozai, AOS49, CH4U, IVY! Musume, JAPHDOLLS PH, Pepper Keibu, Poly V, Sophia the Artist, Tanchikon and Ureshii-san Tomodachi. The event hosts include Kiel from Choji PH, Tessa Carbonell, Justin Villaseran, Geneva Cabading and Fatima Jongco.

Event Tickets and Charity

Ticket price is set at 100 pesos per day.  If you will be attending for 3 days, then get the 3-DAY PASS at 300 pesos (3 Days access to the convention and includes participation in the raffles).

For those who want to have more perks at the event, you can avail the 3-DAY VIP ACCESS for Php 500 (3 days access to the convention only, participation in Animazing Race, Premium Raffles, and many more).

Pinoy Otaku Festival is partnering with House of Light and Hands of God Charity Works, by giving part of the proceeds (ticket sales) to help support them in their various activities.  House of Light is a support group and help them create more awareness regarding HIV/AIDS, and Hands of God Charity Works provides care for less privileged children.

Day 8 of German vacation: last day in Berlin

Today was not quite as full a day. 

We were tired, and had errands to run in the morning. Among other things, we bought stamps for our postcards and I returned to the café owned by @llamapunk’s friend. The ice cream was delicious (only 4 flavors; I tasted the chocolate with brownies mixed in, and the vanilla), and I got two shortbread cookies with dried strawberries in them to take with me.

It was a wet and overcast day, so we ate our lunch (sandwiches) in the hotel and then finally set off around 2:15. We returned to the Holocaust Memorial, which was more somber on a grey day, but there were still a lot of teenagers running around. 

We then walked through the Tiergarten park to Potsdamerplatz, where we admired the Philharmonie concert hall (which is yellow!) and then went to the Daimler Contemporary, an art gallery owned by the luxury car company. We had to ring a bell to be let into the building, and take the elevator up to the fourth floor, but the gallery had free admission and an interesting variety of German and Japanese artists. I particularly liked Hiroe Saeki’s intricate drawings, Menja Stevenson’s photography and prints, and a digitally modified video by Ryosuke Imamura. It was very quiet--we were the only visitors at that particular moment, maybe because it’s not that easy to find.

We then took a bus back to the neighborhood of our hotel. We were a little too late to visit the Käthe Kollwitz Museum, which is a shame. We window-shopped in art galleries until it was time for our dinner reservation at an organic Austrian restaurant. It was fantastic--though we could only eat there because Wife decided she was willing to suffer the consequences of eating gluten for one delicious meal. She made the most of it by having no main course, but two gluteny desserts! (Austria is, of course, known for its desserts.) The Kässpätzle (a sort of pan-fried pasta with cheese and fried onions; it’s also part of Bavarian cuisine) was delicious, and came with a great cucumber salad. I also had some of each of Wife’s desserts. The Kaiserschmarrn is a cake cooked in a pan, cut into little pieces, dusted with powdered sugar, and served with plum compote. The Marillenknödel are apricot dumplings--basically, an apricot stuffed with sugar and covered in a batter made with mild fresh cheese, and then simmered and rolled in sweetened breadcrumbs (and in this case, chopped pistachios). And then our bill came with two little bite-sized pieces of Linzer torte. All of the food was amazing! 

Then we came home to the hotel. I am more than halfway packed; we plan to leave at 11am tomorrow to catch our train. It’s been exhausting, but fun--and I do feel like I have seen a lot of Berlin in this week. In fact, I had made a list of about 28 things I was interested in doing, and we managed to do all but 4 of them, 3 of which were Berlin Wall-related (and we actually did do the more essential Berlin Wall things), so really it was just the Käthe Kollwitz Museum that I’m sorry to have missed. Well, okay, I also wish we could’ve gone to the Alte Nationalgalerie, but it was closed due to the air conditioning system breaking down. 

Next stop: Hamburg!

The second thing is that I finally got the interview of Mashima in Angouleme (master class) this video lasts 1:30:00 so the time that I translate the interview and I do the editing and I will publish soon! :D The 3rd is that many of my subs asked me if I would make theories about One piece ... well I finally started the manga! haha XD and I already have 6 theories to make you !!! (what is the One piece, the real secret of the missing century, the meaning of the "D", or the haki, or the end of One piece !!) short many things !!^^ the 4th is that I still don’t talk to you about my new FT project ! but I work very very hard !!! (I have received a lot of questions about this, but I think, I'll tell you about it at the same time as I will publish my meeting with Mashima and the live drawing of Gruvia's son, to make it easier ;) A lot of work !!! Cosmogenesis, Hiroe Saeki @ The Daiwa Anglo -Janpanese Foundation

Saeki’s monochrome drawings consist of layers of patterns made with graphite and water overlayed with intricate linework in mechanical pencil on fine grain paper. These patterns have an organic quality, and could be likened to biological or mineral forms, microscopic cellular structures or cosmic landscapes. The powdered graphite moves through trails of water,  re- enacting geological movements, leaving their traces as the water evaporates  The delicacy of the drawings give them a weightless quality, with sparse compositions that bring attention to the void. I think these works sensitively touches on the merging of the organic with the mechanical as well the innterconnectivity of nature and its defiance to be contained.  “ this new work coalesces her vision of the world into a yearning to interconnect with the universe at all scales”

Bookshelf Overload: March 2017

Well then, I managed to acquire a rather large number of books in March. Unexpectedly, most of them weren’t even manga. In part this was due to a bunch of comics that I had previously backed on Kickstarter showing up last month. I can also thank both online retailers and my local comic book store for offering some massive discounts throughout March. (On top of that, I have a tendency to buy books when I’m under stress. Seeing as I’m in the process of transferring from one job to another, there’s been a fair amount of added stress lately, too.) But as for the manga I picked up in March: I was particularly delighted to come across Mitsuru Adachi’s Short Program, which has been out of print for a while now. I also decided to give Kazune Kawahara’s High School Debut a try since I’ve been enjoying My Love Story!! so incredibly much. I was admittedly a little surprised to come across The Secret Devil-chan, Volume 1 by Emu, the first book to be released under Digital Manga’s new PeCChi imprint. The book has actually been available since September I think, but only directly from Digital Manga; I wasn’t sure if any of the publisher’s titles were still being released outside of it’s own web stores. And while 100 Manga Artists isn’t manga it certainly is manga-related. I didn’t realize it at first but it turns out the volume is actually a revised and updated edition of Manga Design which was released back in 2004 (and which I also own). I haven’t had a chance to closely compare the two, but 100 Manga Artists is nevertheless an interesting resource.
