I normally don’t tweet whenever I watch a stream. I just want to immerse myself and appreciate what I watch. But I couldn’t help myself!

Seriously, how is this free?! The song choices, choreography, the background / stage, and of course the delivery of the original song; all of them is so F***ING GOOD!!

The original song, seriously, I was wondering what the heck was happening. I knew Astel is a theater kid so I wasn’t concerned. From what I read, the lyrics are quite emotional.

The way the concert ended was so damn funny. Just them collapsed on the floor!

Not gonna lie, I would like to see the last performance on a blank stage or a black stage with neon ribbons. The ribbons were a nice touch.

Random Starter Call

Ages passed, faces changed, and yet some things could not help but remain the same.  The pettiness of the lower nobility was one such unchanging aspect.  The pride of the higher nobility was another.  Yet in Unohana’s mind, few things were as predictably consistent as the sheer stubbornness of the Hizuki clan.

Back during the modern iteration of Soul Society’s founding, Unohana was not particularly close to the Hizuki head of the era.  She wasn’t any more antagonistic towards him than she was to anyone else, of course, but back then her fondness was reserved for those who directly fought at her side (i.e. her fellow Captains and her Division).  Even that limited warmth had been conditional (any who got in her way were shown no mercy), but it was more than she offered to anyone else.

Even so, Unohana had something approximating respect for Hizuki.  There was something to be admired in doing one’s duty for its own sake, in turning down a reward in service to a higher cause.  They were absolute fools for not making use of every advantage provided to them, but they were righteous fools who stuck to their principles.  There was something endearing in all that.

No matter how endearing it was, however, the fact remained that idealists who snubbed the rich and powerful did not last long on their own.  Luckily for the Hizukis, whether they realized it or not, they happened to have acquired several powerful and influential allies in their dutiful service.  Chief among those supporters being one Yamamoto Shigekuni Genryusai.  And that?  That gave Unohana free reign to do as she pleased.

Unohana’s involvement in the whole affair was incidental at first; if she stumbled across some plot or another, she’d unravel it as a conspiracy against the Gotei 13, but otherwise considered the situation a trial for the Hizuki clan to overcome by their own merits.  Over time, however, she came to learn how to care about even those who were not major figures in her life.  Empathy did not come easily to Unohana, but it did come eventually.  Once it was there, Unohana’s interest in the Hizukis’ survival increased substantially, and she was willing to do far more in the interest of sabotaging uppity nobles than Yamamoto ever allowed himself to indulge.

Thus it was, through their own efforts in the light and the efforts of their allies in the shadows, that the Hizuki clan endured even unto the modern day.  It was not always an easy process, though.  Their habitual stubbornness was a double-edged sword; it allowed them to remain who they were at heart throughout the centuries, but it also produced an unfortunate tendency to double-down on their decisions, and that could make their situation much more harrowing than it otherwise would be.  

Whenever such moments popped up, one of the senior Captains was sent to help attempt to ease the issue back into something resembling reasonable.  Considering the Hizuki clans long and spotless record, the situation demanded no less.  The fact that (at least within the past millennium) all three Captains were seen as some of the most friendly and reasonable was also important; it was much harder to take Retsu, Jushiro, or Shunsui visiting as a declaration of Bad Times than it would be if the visiting Captain were, say, Soi-Fon.  A statement of intent, a reminder that the Gotei 13 was ultimately on their side.

It was Unohana who darkened the Hazuki clan’s doorstep this time around.  She had been very kindly allowed entry by Akira-san, and had been offered tea while she waited for Akihiko-san to have a moment, which she accepted.  It wasn’t too long before the door to the room she’d been lead to opened.  It wasn’t the Hizuki Unohana was waiting for, but it was a Hizuki worth seeing nonetheless.  “Ah, Hizuki-san.  I hope you are doing well this day.  I apologize for the intrusion; I am not interrupting anything, am I?”

Great Grandfather, Taiki: Witnessed YHWACH’s war as a child and was scarred from it for life, which made him paranoid later in life with sleep walking episodes and nervous breakdowns. His father and mother hid children during the wartime while given secret money from the head commanders who believed their hands were to bloody to save the civilians themselves. Build a hidden underground floor after his father’s last wish to be used as a safe haven in case another tragedy occurs. The family member he fears the most for is Akiko, since her idealistic nature and obsession with moving towards the future with lighting speed could get her hurt.

Grandfather, Hayato: Took over the role of head of the clan after his father’s symptoms began to worsen over time. He loved his wife so much that he left the long tradition of naming his children after aspects of nature (as a way to remind the clan members that nature always lay dominant) to honor her instead. If he weren’t Taiki’s only son, the clan elders could have disowned him for that alone.

Grandmother, Aki: Known as a stubborn heeled woman who’s too willful for her own good and doesn’t truly care about what matters, it’s been said her family allowed her to marry Hayato just to get rid of her, only for it to slap them back in the face since she had the most successful marriage out of her siblings. Wanted to have more than three children, but because the medicine back than wasn’t that well advance, she and her husband agreed it’s not worth risking it if she were to die in childbirth.

Oldest Uncle, Akihiko: Named after his mother Aki along with his other two brothers, he has the blandest personality out of the three of them. Many people say there is nothing special of him to note, but that only makes him more pleasant to be around. It took him a long time to settled down, and only got married when he was around the Shinigami equivalent of late twenties, a late age for nobles to get married, especially for first born sons. So far he has five daughters and one son, all of them being named after the flowers in their mother’s garden.

Aunt in law, Hanae: She was born to a family of well off merchants and enjoys the quote life of a housewife. She is has a gentle air around her similar to her brother in law’s, which is why she gets along with him best out of the rest of the family. She is the family’s version of the picture of the man who’s mowing his lawn while a tornado goes along in the background. Just let her attend to her children and gardens and leave her be, god damn it.

Father, Akihito: While he is build like a bear with black hair and ruby eyes that “glow in the dark” (use Hades from the Hades game for reference), Akihito is actually the most soft spoken of his siblings and couldn’t shout to save his life. He had even said once “you too” to a waitress once and refused to leave his room for a week. For most of his childhood people thought he was just shy, but developing medical research proved he suffered from an anxiety disorder for most of his life. He only truly feels bold when he has his wife and daughter by his side.

Mother, Shiho: As the fifth child of a minor house, no one really cared who she married as long as she followed their one rule: never bring a criminal to the house. So when she announced she is to marry into the Hizuki family, no one could say no as she technically didn’t break any rules. She is a tiny woman with soft brown hair and an bottomless black pools for eyes, but with a fierce tempter and a prideful stance. It’s safe to say Akiko got most of her personality from her mother.

Younger uncle, Akira: Akira is the bachelor of the family, and where Akihito is quiet and private, Akira is basically the sun, turning heads wherever he goes and laughs at every joke he hears. He works as “secret jobs” for the Seireitei, which is basically going to the human world to gather information on their recent technical developments when the other Shinigami were too prideful to admit they needed help from other sources. He adores those jobs just form the happy faces of his nephews and nieces whenever he brings back harmless gifts. After the last earful he got from his brothers’, Akira knows better than to bring back a human to gun.

He also may or may not have fathered bastard from across soul society but I’ll unpack that another time
