Notes- Christmas TAG secret santa fic.
Because of this post and @janetm74 and @edutainer2022 here are my additional notes for my 2023 thunderfam secret santa fic.
It contains brainstorming that became part of the og fic and notes as a continuation for the car ride. It was actually these that I came up with first and intended to write but got side tracked with explorations of getting ready, especially given the prompt i was given was “Every day is a school day” with Jeff and Lucy. Also deadlines!
Mind that this is pretty much as is from my notes in its entirety, complete with spelling errors, partial sentences and utter lack of cohesion as I jumped between ideas.
Link for the fic proper on ao3.
---
“Every day is a school day” Jeff and Lucy. And everyone.
Car drive to spent christmas with Grandma and Grant at Gran Rocha. The preparing and road tripping shenanigans.
getting all five kids plus themselves and luggage into the car on time as chaotic as a school day. Jeffs line?
S15, J13, V12, G 6?7, A3
Wake-up call. Alarm going off Lucy tired and grumpy where Virgil gets it from. I’ll get the kids up and you can head straight to the coffee. Jeff fooling around like mock drill sergeant. Scott’s grumpy teenness and chucking a pillow at him with surprisingly good aim for supposedly asleep. Scott getting up. Bed hair mess that Jeff runs a gentle hand through pulling him into a hug. Virgil and John. John and Bagel the cat curled up together. Both hissing at him in unison. Virgil needed to be hugged and woken up more slowly.
Down in the kitchen. Jeff kissing Lucy and trying to steal her coffee. No you cannot steal my coffee Jefferson Tracy, you have your own.  Lucy’s massive science pun mug. Hair in her face looking like little Virgil.
HURRICANE LUCY. Time skip to about to go?
packing- John wanting to fit telescope. Or “But I did leave my telescope behind” but bag full of books.
Last min shoving presents in. Neighbour to feed the cat.
Scott nabbed the car keys first on massive ** many different  keychain so neither Lucy nor Jeff could lose them. Swinging them around his finger, “can I drive” Parental chorus of “No!” Doesn't have license yet but is learning to pilot. argument of Grandma lets me drive on the ranch. Thats the beat up old ute and theres nothing much out there to hit any way.
And they were done. Bags were in the car, kids were in the car, last final bathroom stops had been had.  Lucy patted down her pockets. Keys! She didn’t have them, so Jeff must except that he didn’t. Surely the couldn’t have lost them with the neon pink rocket ship key chain attached to prevent this. Until they both spied Scott leaning against the drivers side door and swinging them around his finger.
“So, can I drive?” Scott asked as if he didn’t already know the answer to that question.
“No,” came the parental chorus.
Then the other kids repeating them, picking up on it slightly behind.
Scott grinning and tossed the keys in the air one last time then caught them. He passed them to Lucy’s waiting hand prompted by a stern eyebrow.
7 seater beat up car. Drive- Kansas to Texas. approx 9 hours to 8 1/2. Lucy english thinking its ages. at least america had good highways. and from her mothers tales at least kangaroo spotter was a redundant position.
Panic at dress clothes for Christmas day
someone packed no underpants. Gordon only packed underwear and swimmers. Trying to sort laundry at last minute. Jeff’s haphazard packing of his own clothes with getting everyone else in military order. Lucy remarking jokingly, “Mightve gotten to mars adn forgot your space suit.
Jeff the nerd, calling Grandma to tell on our way, “Houston we have take off”. Kids dramatic countdown. A “finally”. FOnd eye rolls.
John and Virgil at back seats. Johns already long limbs folded up.
Scott getting the dubious privelige of the middle row. but centre seat between Alan and Gords car seats and on big brother duty.
Lucy hoping but not expecting to get some rest on the trip. Up all night getting ready. has mystery novel to read. but trying to wrangle kids. Putting Jeff’s cowboy hat over her face to keep the sun off as she sleeps.
Stops for toilet breaks. Lunch fast food. “Do not let gordon have soda.” Johns burger order. Virgil picking pickles out to give to john. The chips stealing. Trying to eat and drive. sending older ones in to fish younger out of the play area. losing Scott to it too, send in John planning it like a mission.
Jeff adn Lucy discussion over what coffee is supposed to do. ADHD Jeff. starting with Scott asking for coffee, cheekily. No, we dont need you any more hyper. Jeff’s confident, “Coffee doesnt do that” Even same with Aa. spirited debate. JSSo that means I can have some? eff still saying no coffee for Scott.
Lucy driving at some point.
If Lucy had to hear one more rendition of baby shark she was the one who was going to get out and walk.
music and Lucy and Virgil comparing synesthesia.
John reading massive heavy text book, splayed out across knees. not getting car sick, serve well for astronaut. for fun, reminded he didnt need to study.
Scott bored and restless. tinies asleep. no phone signal. twisting around, being told off for seat belt, trying to see what Johns doing. seat swap and he and John are in the back doing maths and physics, heads bent together. virgil eyes closed but awake or leaning around car seats to look out the windows, bobbing head to music through headphones.
when John adn Scott get stuck, calling questions out to Lucy. Jeff snoring in front seat, head on lucy;s jumper, went from wide awake to clonked out even after the coffees.
Virgil using breath on fogged up windows to draw. Scott and John used it for math.
Gordon are we there yet. Alan copying him.
naming animals and animal sounds. then naming sea creatures. then sounds of sea creatures. some known, some gordon happily making them up.
car sickness. Scott getting car sick, in spite of crazy spins and flips but then hes in control. another reshuffle, Jeff wedged into the middle seat, Lucy laughing and looking in rear view mirror at tall, broad shouldered husband folded awkwardly into the back. John and Virgil back-back. Scott getting shotgun, window open and nauseous. Vomit bags in glove box because learnt from past fiascos and puke in hat story. Scott grumps would be fine if I was driving
some point tinies and Jeff all asleep.  John and Virgil happy together. Lucy getting to check in and chat to scott.
on destination. everyone there, big family.  Lee? Kayo adn Kyrano and Kayo mother. Jeff brothers? packed into the big ranch house. noise and merriment. hot dry texas air. smell of good food cooking. some slight odour of burnt.
explain lucy parents farm????
“The eagle has landed” finding rooms, unpack car. eldest three in together. youngest.
John overwhelmed after trip, not wanting to talk to anyone. near tears at thought of going into party. going to stable to spent time with horses.
Virgil running up to Grant and talking his ear off, to much delight of both parties. Grant, still broad shouldered and strong from farm work, charcoal black hair now salt and pepper grey.
Achievements getting caught up with. Jeff telling grandma about scotts, Scott proud but a bit uncharacteristically shy, leaning into a side hug.
the comments of how big the kids were all getting, and theyd better not be having more. Lucy laughing and very nope five is plenty enough.
somewhat tired cranky, sticky dusty kids. Gordon spilling something sticky on him in the last hour, waiting to get there to wash him off. Recovering excitement at bath.

Elizabeth Blackadder (1931 - 1921 , UK)- Celebrated artist admired for her paintings of flowers and the first woman to be elected to both the Royal and Royal Scottish academies, a long interesting article by Charles Darwent, which gives great insights in her seemingly dated art.
"In 1994, the year that Damien Hirst made his first vitrined sheep, Away from the Flock, pickled in formaldehyde, the artist Elizabeth Blackadder, who has died aged 89, finished a work called Still Life With Cats. The cats were painted in oil on canvas, joining many others in Blackadder’s oeuvre, alongside arum lilies, Japanese fans and tins of sweets.
Mere difference of age does not explain the gap between Blackadder’s art and Hirst’s. Painters of her own generation – Bridget Riley was born in the same year, 1931 – worked in a style that was insistently modern. This was not Blackadder’s way. When she and her husband, the artist John Houston, visited New York in 1969 on the way to paint the Wyoming landscape, they made trips to the Museum of Modern Art to see Picasso and Matisse, not Pollock and Warhol. Modern art institutions returned the compliment: there are only half a dozen or so Blackadders in the Tate, all but one of them lithographs, few ever on show and none more recent than 1963. The British Council Collection holds only two Blackadders, the Arts Council’s none at all. And yet, there is more to the story than meets the eye.
At first glance, a painting such as Iris Oncocylus (1996), in the collection of the National Gallery of Scotland, is not so much unapologetically outdated as defiantly so. Where Georgia O’Keeffe defeminised flower-painting by making oils of lilies that looked like vulvas, Blackadder’s watercolour irises might have been painted by an unusually adept aunt. A second look shows something more complex. Blackadder’s eye is not so much meticulous as engineered: this is botanical painting rather than flower painting. The disposition of her flowers on the paper is just that, a disposition rather than an arrangement.
In an untypically expansive moment, Blackadder hazarded that “the space between flowers [in her work] is as important as the flowers themselves”, adding that her pictures invented themselves as they went along. The two-dimensional sculpturalism of her irises owes more to Matisse than it does to, say, the flower painter Mary Butler. If Blackadder’s flowers are representational, the voids they create are abstract.
Daughter of Thomas and Violet Blackadder, she came from a family of Falkirk engineers. Her father’s factory in the town, Blackadder Brothers’ Garrison Foundry and Engine Works, had been built by Thomas’s own grandfather in 1851. Elizabeth was born in its shadow, in a sandstone villa at 6 Weir Street.
In later life, she refused to talk about her art. If forced to do so, she spoke in the kind of commonsensical terms that would have had conceptualists such as Hirst in tears – “I paint the centre of my flowers black,” Blackadder might say, adding, in a rare confessional burst, “Well, a kind of bluey-black.” She did, however, admit to having had an early teacher. “My father was an engineer, but he drew a lot, mostly boats,” she recalled in a BBC interview to mark her 80th birthday. “From a young age, he helped me to draw.” Blackadder’s father died when she was 10.
Another childhood influence was also familial. During wartime German bombing of Clydebank, Falkirk being on the bombers’ flight path, the young Elizabeth was dispatched by her mother to her grandmother’s house on Holy Loch. “I got sent out as a gardener for all [her] friends,” Blackadder would wryly recall. By her teens, she knew the Linnaean names of all the local wildflowers, and had pressed most in an album. This dual inheritance was to appear in her work as an artist.
After leaving Falkirk high school, she joined the new joint fine-and-applied arts course at Edinburgh University in September 1949, where the Byzantinist David Talbot Rice was her tutor. Blackadder found herself exposed to the Byzantine obsession with pattern, a taste at once formal and decorative. Another discovery was the Italian primitives, particularly Piero della Francesca. In her final year, spent at the Edinburgh College of Art, she met Houston, a fellow student. When Blackadder won a travel scholarship with her first-class degree, the pair set off for Italy. They were married in Edinburgh the following year, 1956, a partnership that was to last until Houston’s death in 2008.

A bend in space-time Season 2 - [Chapter 11: The machinery of the universe]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Chapter 11: The machinery of the universe] Links : AO3 - Wattpad - FFN
November 15, 1963 - 07:07 pm
The light that filters through the store's smoked window is dull, this evening, and my eyes wander over the arched, inverted letters that spell out the name Merelec. On the sign announcing that the store is closed. On the pile of component boxes and the accumulation of TV sets awaiting to be repaired. In my hand, the soldering iron hasn't moved for a minute now, and I finally turn it off. My head rests on the table in the crook of my arm. I'm tired. Exhausted. And I know it's probably the same for Lloyd, who has even more TV sets lined up to be fixed, at the Dallas Centre store right now. I don't know if we'll get it all done in time for Kennedy's 'coming' on November 22. And we'll have literally seen each other three hours, since he returned from Houston.
I sigh. I haven't heard from Klaus since we hung up amidst a troubled silence on Monday. He didn't say anything about it, but I sensed he was fighting the urge to jump into the Dodge Polara and drive all the way here. If he really fancied it, it would take him a good twenty-five hours of driving, interspersed with stops, to get to Dallas. About three days, assuming he didn't kill himself. I sigh again. I don't even have the strength to think about it.
As my eyes close, the circuit board gradually merges into a dreamlike star map, with the bright spots of soldering no longer making sense to my exhausted mind. I no longer have any energy to flow through the copper wires, not even enough to keep me awake. Capacitors and resistors seem to dance around me as if the universe itself were nothing more than a machinery. And I fall asleep - right where I am - the acrid smell of resin and white-hot metal dancing around me.
Crack!
How long have I already slept, when this space-time anomaly rips the fabric of my sleep? I don't know, just as I don't know whether I'm dreaming or not. I don't want it. Not right now. I need to sleep, and not yet another restless dream in which Five's pointy face stares back at me over the lined-up cathode-ray lamps. I turn my head and bury it in my arms, as if desperately trying to protect myself from him, once again.
"Go away," I tell him through my numbness, to where sleep and consciousness intertwine.
I've tried to do this time and time again, and I've always failed. The dreams I have about Five are always far too vivid and realistic for me to keep them away, or even to distinguish them from reality. I know that - this time - I won't succeed either. I can even feel the air he moves as he leans against the nearest cardboard boxes.
"You'd better ask me how I found you."

I chose to insert an OC - Rin - into the plot of The Umbrella Academy season 2, appearing almost only in deleted scenes. I try to give her an interesting story on her own. What to expect: digging into the psychology of the canon characters, seeing their daily lives through the eyes of an outsider, deciphering what's only skimmed over in the original series. A bit of fun, too, uh?
Any comment will make my day! ♡

7 Texas Men Accused of Raping Toddlers in Mall Restroom
Tumblr media
In a deeply disturbing incident that has shaken Texas, 29-year-old Arthur Hector Fernandez III faces charges related to the sexual exploitation of children, specifically in a horrific case involving the gang rape of two toddlers in a mall restroom. The FBI, prompted by videos discovered on the dark web, has brought to light this appalling crime that occurred in the bustling Houston Galleria.
Discovery of Dark Web Videos
The Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) played a crucial role in uncovering this heinous act. The FBI received videos showcasing the abuse of two innocent children, aged 2 and 3, in a public restroom stall. The accused, Fernandez, a former employee of Galleria, allegedly lured the victims and their families into this unthinkable situation.
Identification and Arrest
The FBI, through meticulous investigation, identified Fernandez by scrutinizing clothing and accessories seen in the videos. Remarkably, relatives of the victims confirmed Fernandez's connection, recognizing the items and acknowledging him as a friend. The agency reached out to these distraught families, uncovering the heartbreaking circumstances that led to the vile acts.
Tumblr media
Exploitation of Trust and Unscheduled Days
The FBI found that Fernandez exploited the parents' work schedules to perpetrate these crimes. One parent, forced to work an unscheduled day, had no babysitter and brought their child to work. Fernandez volunteered to look after the child, seizing the opportunity for his sinister acts.
Quotes from Relatives
A relative of the first child revealed, "They brought the child to their workplace, where Fernandez volunteered to look after him. That was the only time the child was alone with Fernandez." Another relative disclosed,  "Fernandez offered to babysit her, saying he would walk her around the mall and keep her entertained."
Evidence at Fernandez's Residence
The FBI discovered incriminating evidence at Fernandez's residence, including a pair of distinctive white, low-top Converse All-Star shoes matching those seen in the videos. Authorities seized three pairs of identical shoes, reinforcing the connection. Additionally, multiple electronic devices suspected of containing sexual abuse material were confiscated. This harrowing incident unfolded in a public restroom equipped with changing tables, underscoring the importance of vigilance and security in such spaces. The accused, along with six other men involved in these abhorrent acts, now face the consequences of their reprehensible actions. The case stands as a stark reminder of the need for collective efforts to combat child exploitation and protect the most vulnerable members of society. Read the full article

After seeing the sunset, the park's large urban area with a charming lake and scenic surroundings make it the perfect place to check out the city's nightlife.
Twilight Epiphany Skyspace The architecturally stunning Twilight Epiphany Skyspace on the Rice University campus serves as the home of the Shepherd School of Music in Houston. There's an LED show here around sunset, and there are two viewing platforms. Although there is a view of the Houston skyline from the lower deck, it is framed and offers a less impressive perspective of the sky above.
Hermann Park's Miller Outdoor Theatre Jazz, Shakespeare, ballet, and pop concerts are all free to see at Houston's Miller Theatre, which is situated in Hermann Park. March through November. The theater, which is great for enjoying free performances and the rays of the Texan sun, is situated between Hermann Park and the Hermann Zoo. It boasts a stunning view of the sunset.
The Nature Center & Arboretum in Houston Encompassing Memorial Park, one of the biggest urban parks in the United States, for five miles, Houston's Houston Arboretum & Nature Centre is an ideal location for a peaceful haven. The center provides beautiful sunsets, animals among the wetlands, and a calm haven from the daily grind. Photographers and lovers of the outdoors should not miss this tranquil setting.
Minute Maid Park For lovers of Major League Baseball, Minute Maid Park, the home stadium of the Houston Astros in Texas, is a unique experience. The stadium provides a distinctive ambiance for afternoon or evening games with a seating capacity of over 40,000. Savor the succulent sunset beside the world-famous Texas barbecue and game tickets.
Sam Houston Park The Kellum-Noble mansion, rustic buildings, and Victorian architecture can all be seen at Sam Houston Park, a historic property managed by the Heritage Society in downtown Houston. For those who enjoy history, this park provides something special: a prime location to watch the sunset while immersed in centuries of culture and history.
Memorial Park Golf, baseball, swimming, and a running course are among the many sports and outdoor activities available at Houston's Memorial Park, the city's largest open area. It also has Buffalo Bayou-bordering pathways that are well-liked by track runners and bikers and provide a calm setting for picnics and skyline views.
