❥ my top ten redacted audio speakers !!
i’ve seen a bunch of people doing this so i wanted to join in! i love a bandwagon 😋
Tumblr media
feisty werewolf; milo - i mean, come on. *gestures at my blog* look at me. milo very quickly took top spot, by the time i got to the panic attack audio i was like the rest of y’all can pack it up bc this guy’s got me hooked lmfao it was just so sweet to see a softer side of the guy who, at that point in the timeline, had mostly only been abrasive, cocky, and flirty. that accent also does everything for me. the exact moment i fell in love with him was when he said, “of course i’m not mad. i was worried - scared that you were hurt or something. but never mad.” 🫠💖
nervous air elemental; lasko - lasko… what can i say about lasko. he definitely awoke something in me lmao, initially i didn’t want to get into the elementals because meeting new people felt like a chore at the time but he immediately made me laugh and it was all downhill from there… i love that he’s kinda freaky and he makes me want to bite him in the non-canon audios, but even in prime universe he’s just so sweet and a really good friend. and his relationship with coworker makes me so proud of his development
arrogant incubus; gavin - i’ve said it before but gavin’s the reason i’m here! his hbs 2023 audio was my first audio of the channel, and to go back in time and watch his progression to that point was so heartwarming 🥺 him and freelancer are possibly the best pair in the universe, i just adore everything about them. gavin’s audios are actually the hardest ones for me to listen to because the love he has for freelancer is suffocating to witness in a really bittersweet way 😩
yandere cultist friend; blake - this one is um …. i never expected this HAHA when i first listened to the balance he really skeeved me out (as he should), but then mother mother released ‘explode!’ and for some unfathomable reason it got into my head as a blake song and i couldn’t dissociate it from him. on a second listen of the balance, i definitely appreciate his character more and the juxtaposition of him with elliott and sunshine vs bestie is so so interesting to me. i can’t even be mad at bestie because he’d have me wrapped around his finger too 🥲 rly nervous for his next story update
chaotic boyfriend; guy - BABYGIRL. humor is the biggest thing i look for in relationships both platonic and romantic and no one makes me laugh like guy does. he’s so my type and the way honey acts is literally how i am with guys i like, so guy audios are always so much fun to listen to 💖 and no BA hits quite like that pre-recorded one
i ended up talking more than i thought i would so the other half is under the cut!
Tumblr media
it gets kind of messy in the second half because i think these could get shuffled around depending on my mood but for now these are my thoughts!
seer obscura; morgan - morgan is… captivating. i know he kinda only blew up after ‘time is a song’ but it’s with good reason; the atmosphere is so calming but also, like… there’s a longing to it, ykwim? the two of them being the only know seer obscuras naturally lends a hand to the tension between them. no one else understands their unique struggles - so when his new obscura acquaintance calls him up in the middle of the night asking for help and comfort, of course he isn’t going to say no. it’s such an intimate setting for their third audio together and you can feel the tension building the whole time up to “i want to know you.” it’s just a really good audio. very interested to see where his story goes
sarcastic inchoate demon; avior - THE SNARK. THE QUIET KINDNESS. THE MYSTERY. THE YEARNING. THE TRAGEDY. avior’s got it all. sovereign state had me on the edge of my seat the whole time and still does, honestly. his hbs rewind audio is one of my favorites; the effort and love he put into that little date to give starlight a reprieve from their shared hell… he is such a romantic 💖 there’s nothing quite like falling in love while stuck in an actual hell
unempowered boyfriend; geordi - he’s an interesting one for me bc my love of him is directly tied to cutie + cutie’s telepathy giving us a look into his head (i just melt over his whispered little i love yous and compliments). they have a fascinating and messy story that i live for even when it makes me sick lol i adore that they’re both flawed but that they’re taking steps to better themselves. it’s fun when couples in the redactedverse aren’t perfect but still try to be better out of love
mysterious stranger; hush - THE weird guy. within his first audio i went from being indifferent to charmed. i love a mystery and everything about him is mysterious, but he’s also so clueless sometimes that it’s like. so what if he tied doc to the bed in their first meeting, now he’s asking to hold their hand when he’s nervous. so what if his purpose is to free the sovereigns? he learned how to cook for doc. i can’t NOT love him
unknown yandere caller - i’m a ghostface fan, okay. and i’m a taurus. i like when people are obsessed with me 🤷🏼‍♀️ there’s just something so… like. listen. “you’ll start to expect me. you’ll start to crave me.” from the audio and “i know you’ll find them. and you’ll keep them. because they’re from me.” from his card? the arrogance. it’s bewitching. i need him back ASAP i don’t even care if he doesn’t get a real name, i just miss him. come back please 🙏🏻

When I first listened to Vice Grip, I was shell-shocked. Jaw to the floor in complete awe. Not because it was good. It was the worst music I had ever heard in my life, and I listen to 100 gecs. "Surely this can't be the precursor to the hit indie/alternative rock band Joywave?" I thought to myself. This godawful collection of "music" sounded like it came straight from a GarageBand mixtape on a burned CD, played through your family PC's shitty built-in speakers. Which was probably how it was meant to be played anyway.
Once I got over the initial knee-jerk reaction to catapult my headphones straight through the nearest window, I found myself listening to the small handful of tracks for a second time. Why would I subject myself to such cruel punishment? There must have been something in the water that fateful day, because each time I re-listened, it sounded better and better…
Something about it… captivated me. Was it the screeching, autotuned vocals that caught my attention? The vapid and childishly crude lyrics? Or the over-mixed drums and mp3 fuzz that proved its authenticity (and lack thereof)? Izzy Sparks was speaking to me from the faraway, ancient year of 2007. He had taken my heart from the lockbox, so to say. I began to understand.
Taken at face value, Vice Grip's discography contains objectively, the worst songs ever written (save for one*). But we need to go deeper. To truly comprehend the beauty of Vice Grip, one must understand the concept of:
Tumblr media
Somewhere in 21-year-old Daniel Michael Armbruster's mind, there was a great plan stewing. If his eccentric mannerisms, cynical lyricism, and off-putting tweets of today suggest anything, it is that Daniel is no stranger to satire. His devilish plan to create the perfect caricature of 00s synthpop was never meant to be anything more than a one-time joke. How (un)fortunate that Vice Grip was conceived at the height of the second boyband craze, leading to international success and an active fanbase. Their faces were on TV around the world, and even in magazines. Vice Grip even eclipsed the popularity of the Hoodies, their completely 100% sincere pop-punk effort.
Perhaps this non-band came too early. Were they ahead of their time? It seemed Vice Grip had become the very thing it swore to destroy. Fittingly, the band self-destructed after releasing their final album: The Vice Grip Anthology (2320 H.D. - 2009 A.D.). Causes for the breakup include drug addiction, sex addiction, pornography (both producing and consuming), cannibalism, food addiction, feudalism, and college classes.
Eventually fading into obscurity and surpassed by newer satirical bands like Joywave and KOPPS, Vice Grip's genius went unappreciated for the next 15 years. The full Vice Grip Anthology was lost to link rot and Web 1.0's decay. The search for this holy grail was further crushed when former band members revealed that not even they possessed a copy. I mean, can you blame them? It seemed that Vice Grip was nothing more than an unpleasant memory, preserved only in the minds of the ex-emo millennials who had nothing better to do at Warped Tour 2008.
Until one fateful day in the year 2023. The Anthology had at last been uncovered, dug up and dusted off by one of the few fans who had the indecency to pay $9.99 on iTunes for it, all those years ago. It was subsequently transmitted all the way from Pluto to every deviant computer in the world, and is now freely available to all mortals that can withstand the sonic assault on their eardrums.
Everything on the internet does indeed last forever, much to the chagrin of Armbruster FKA Sparks. In his own words, "[The Anthology] is 31 tracks of complete and utter bullshit, presented in chronological order." But for the five or so Vice Grip fans that still exist on this planet, it was worth its weight in gold and then some (so I'm told). It truly is the most amazing album we will ever hear.
I am now at the point in my Vice Grip journey where Holly & Emily is a welcome guest on my shuffle play, rather than a dastardly scourge to make me cringe into the 4th dimension. This presents some difficulties when playing my music in a car filled with more sensible people than I. But they simply have not yet been mind-blown by the frequencies that Vice Grip has to offer.
The true artistry of Vice Grip hides behind the superficial. These are not songs meant to be loathed and detested by their audience. These are songs crafted with love. These are love songs. Because we love it.
Vice Grip truly is the greatest band the world has ever freaking seen.
*Thriller 2 is the best song Daniel has ever made.

Christopher Bang
Bang Chan (Stray Kids)
Deck: Tarot of the Divine
Spread: Sweet Romance
The eyes meet across the room… (What captivates them about you) [15] - Queen of Coins
I can’t possibly know much about you but the cards suggest that Bang Chan is likely to feel captivated by your feminine charms. You don’t have to be girly but you possess the famme fatale vibe and it’s very likely for Bang Chan to notice. You are likely to attract his eyes by being confident in your own skin and not letting anyone discourage or pointlessly criticise you.
Sweet scent lingering in the air… (What pulls them closer to you) [72] - Knight of Swords
Your sharp tongue and witty reason are likely to attract Bang Chan. The way you ask questions in order to truly understand the issue, the way you focus on conversation and the speaker, you listen, you reply meaningfully and your observations are deep and on point. You can probably also retort with sarcasm and merciless wit. Bang Chan finds it refreshing and amusing.
Only the brave ones… (What motivates them to approach you) [46] - 0 The Fool
Your open mindedness towards anything new and your friendliness are the qualities motivating Bang Chan to approach you. Despite your razor sharp reason, you don’t intimidate him, you don’t push people away. You are open to new friendships and new people entering your life. Bang Chan feels welcomed in your company because you respond quickly and with nearly childlike curiosity and what’s more, you truly listen to what he says.
Words as sweet as honey… (What enchants them about you) [18] - 5 of Coins
Bang Chan is likely to feel enchanted by your independence and ability to fight for yourself and stand on your own feet. If that’s not completely true as of now (maybe you are still studying and need your parent’s support), Bang Chan will appreciate your selfless and non-materialistic nature. You prefer to bond with people through thoughts and ideas rather than bribe them with gifts (or being bribed by others). You probably don’t really need a large budget to be happy. Your modesty and resourcefulness will leave Bang Chan stunned.
Lips like petals of a rose… (What makes them kiss you) [26] - King of Coins
The way you get so serious and engaged in something that interests you will likely make Bang Chan to kiss you. You are in the middle of a deeply educated and professional monologue on something you are into at the time, you present your ideas with all the seriousness and passion for the issue, you probably detour to details often, sometimes skipping words because your mind runs faster than your mouth. And suddenly Bang Chan goes forward and stops the waterfall with a kiss. It’s likely to be sweet, short and in a way innocent as he didn’t plan it beforehand, just felt so pulled towards you listening to you. It’s likely you will pull him back into another much deeper kiss after he pulled away and whispered sorry shyly.
Love is a form of insanity… (What makes them fall in love with you) [36] - Ace of Wands
Bang Chan is likely to fall in love with you for your everlasting passion and excitement. You are curious about many things, you have many interests and hobbies and you truly enjoy them with glee. Bang Chan is the same, he’s passionate about what he does and seeing you immersing into another subject of your interest, studying it and trying new skills simply to expand and enrich your life, that’s what he finds so adorable and attractive and proud of you. It’s very likely he won’t even notice the one specific moment, he fell in love with you. It’s likely to happen gradually and smoothly.

Winter reading
I spent that beautiful liminal time between Christmas and New Years with 2 lovely wintery novellas, Small Things Like These, which deserves all the hype, and The Blue Fox, which absolutely crushed me.
In January I didn't read much but I finally finished Matrix. I don't know why that book just didn't captivate me the way Groff's other work has. If I could go back, I'd read this before reading The Bear Woman because that book was too much of a peek behind the curtain of how an author approaches writing about a woman who's story has been mostly lost to history and may have ruined Matrix a bit.
Radiohead's There, There was playing in my head (and sometimes my speakers) the entire time I was reading Tommy Orange's There, There, but it pulled me out of my reading slump.
In January I watched a youtube video talking about this book and something about woman with a chronically ill husband and a father in the ICU who runs away to takes a trip to research her novel in the desert felt very relatable to me. Death Valley is the best kind of autofiction.
Herostories is poems about midwives battling the storms of Iceland to get to laboring women, a celebration of the heroic deeds of mostly forgotten women.
I was looking for some more woman runs away to the desert fun but I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness didn't deliver. It was more of a messy confessional essay on The Cut than a novel. Great cover though.
Josh and I started listening to Daisy Jones and the Six when we drove out to California in September and finally finished it this month. It was a fun audiobook and I think I liked it better listening to it than if I had read it.
I don't get squeamish reading books often but all the smoking in Night of the Living Rez grossed me out. I don't know why it says "Stories" on the cover. It's definitely a novel, a non-linear novel, but still a novel - the chapters are too connected to work as standalone stories.
I'm currently reading Cannery Row and dreaming about a trip up the coast to Monterrey. I'm at that point of the year when I get so drained by work I don't often feel like reading. Cannery Row is a good companion to take slowly.

How Technology Transforms the Spoken Word Into Written Treasure - Technology Org

How Technology Transforms the Spoken Word Into Written Treasure - Technology Org
Imagine sitting back, headphones on, digesting the latest podcast or captivating lecture, knowing that later you can revisit every word without hitting play again. This modern-day alchemy is no longer relegated to the realms of fantasy. The ability to transcribe audio to text is a technological marvel reshaping the way we interact with spoken content.
From journalists piecing together their stories to researchers poring over hours of interviews, the implications are wide-ranging and profound. Remarkably, while this process runs in the background like a silent scribe, we carry on with our lives, perhaps unaware of the intricate mechanism at work.
Delving Into the Mechanics of Capturing Spoken Words
The journey from vocal nuances to printed words is a trail blazed by advancements in speech recognition technology. Continually learning and evolving, these systems listen, interpret and convert what’s spoken into text. Yet, behind this seemingly straightforward conversion lies a complex net of algorithms and trained data models.
They must grapple with various accents, fluctuating speech patterns and environmental noise. Clear examples are seen in the tech industry where interviews and webinars are transcribed for more inclusive information sharing, vital for tech professionals to stay current with trends.
Emerging businesses seize upon this transcription boon, fortifying customer support and enhancing user experience. Through sophisticated voice recognition software, companies are transcribing real-time conversations, and pinpointing keywords to derive actionable insights.
No longer restricted to text or type, customers can vocalize their feedback, which, in turn, brands neatly categorize and analyze. This seamless transition from voice to verbatim text is revolutionizing customer engagement strategies and paving the way for more personalized service offerings.
Moreover, this technological advancement offers incredible support for the hearing impaired and the elderly. Subtle audio cues and inflections in speech, previously lost, are now preserved in written form, enhancing communication inclusivity. The application of such technology can be seen in real-time captioning services during live broadcasts, allowing those who are hard of hearing to participate in cultural and public events as they unfold, thus opening new avenues for participation and engagement.
The Art of Crafting Accurate and Nuanced Subtitles
In an interconnected world, subtitles bridge the gap between languages and cultures, transforming the viewing experience. Crafting subtitles that resonate requires an understanding of regional expressions and comic timing, ensuring that what’s funny or poignant in one language doesn’t fall flat in another.
Consider international conferences or product demonstrations; here, the accurate translation and subtlety of subtitles play a strategic role in reaching a global audience. Engaging subtitles also enhances the accessibility of e-learning content, making education more inclusive for non-native speakers and those with hearing impairments.
The Underestimated Ally in Scientific Exploration
Digital transcription services play an unsung role in scientific advancement. As researchers conduct interviews or brainstorming sessions, the wealth of spoken information needs to be meticulously archived. What was once an arduous task of manual transcription is now addressed with greater accuracy and speed.
Digital texts not only streamline data analysis, but they also foster collaboration across geographic and language barriers—vital for cross-disciplinary teams working on groundbreaking research who aim to share their findings with a diverse audience.
The Boon for Content Creators Amid Digital Transformation
Content creation is an art and a business that demands efficiency. Podcasters, journalists and video producers understand that time is of the essence when delivering their message. Automated transcription tools have emerged as invaluable allies, offering creators the ability to enhance their workflows.
The resulting transcripts are not mere records of spoken word; they’re assets that can be repurposed for blog posts, e-books, or social media snippets. More than that, they improve SEO and create accessible content for all audiences, exemplified by the increased traction a video can gain when captions are provided.
Unlocking the Potential of Online Education Through Subtitles
It’s no secret that visual learning can be enriched with the advantage of subtitles. This powerful tool not only supports those with hearing disabilities but also assists learners grappling with language barriers, thus democratizing education.
E-learning platforms that integrate subtitles report higher engagement rates and course completion—empirical data underscoring the subtitled video’s effectiveness. In these subtitled lectures and instructional videos, learners find a supportive tool that enhances understanding and retention, a testament to the subtitles’ influence on achieving educational inclusivity in today’s digital classrooms.
Progress in technology that enables audio and video content to be transcribed or subtitled has made such strides that it’s now integral to tackling linguistic and accessibility frontiers. The shadows behind the scenes in this process remain complex, but the outcomes are simple and powerful, granting us the ability to recall, reference and relish the spoken word like never before.

This journal is a remnant of a wanderer, an adventurer of sorts.
More precisely a solo RPG journal for me, traveling through the mists, and exploring the wonderful and horrifying place that is the home setting of Ravenloft.
The Hickman couple created something in 1983 that captured the fans of gothic horror and at the time emerging Dungeons & Dragons enthusiasts - it became a cult setting for many alike.
My personal experience with the world of Ravenloft runs back to 2017 when I first started to run Curse of Strahd, the 5th edition variant of the classic module I6 - Ravenloft. I was just starting college and gathered a new group of friends to guide them into the mists of Barovia.
Since then I ran the campaign two more times, with more or less success, but I knew that it is the perfect setting for me if I ever wanted to play D&D.
So what is the premise of this blog?
I intend to delve deep into the lore of the setting and explore it through the lenses of a character who travels through the mists and gets to know the colorful (albeit desaturated) Domains of Dread.
I'll write about my adventures, as I slowly slip into the role of this character, and hopefully enjoy my time over the weekly sessions of a couple of hours, and leave behind something that is enjoyable to read as well, since I do have my aspirations of creative writing.
It is also a practice of writing and my (non-existent) English skills, since I'm not a native speaker of the language, but if I'm to write, I need to hone the skill well enough to create something that captivates the readers' curiosity.
So expect grammatical issues, or sometimes errors in semantics, as I power through descriptions and ways to express my experiences during play.
Aesthetics? Format?
I also try to leave behind sketches, and make it pleasing to read this journal. I'm already thinking about the formatting of the text so one can separate the narrative from the game mechanics, and only read the fiction emerging from my dice rolling and decisions. Solo Roleplaying is a very interesting concept in itself, that deserves a dedicated post later on.
I think my time with Play-By-Post (pbp) games gave me a certain standard when it comes to "written play" and how certain things should be presented.
Writing in first person or third person will be always one of the difficult decisions when it comes to the tone of fiction. For the setting the first person perspective offers a certain kind of intimacy, especially to convey the character's emotions, that might be a better option to convey a personal experience. Bram Stoker's Dracula (Read it if you have the time) was also an inspiration for this choice, since the plot is told through letters, written from the perspective of the characters.
And while reading I will listen to music that inspires me, I'll most likely leave a Spotify/Youtube link at the beginning of each post to have an audio ambience for the entry.
In the coming weeks I'll figure out the blog aesthetics as well, refreshing my CSS skills and/or looking for a suitable template.
So who will be the Wanderer?
I don't know at the moment, but I need to find first where I should start. There are many wonderful resources online that can help me choose the first Domain of Dread to venture to. What I also need to choose is the rules themselves. Since the first Ravenloft was written for AD&D 1E - I might opt for using an older version of the traditional formula. There are some pros for it:
It's OSR compatible. I have a truckload of OSR resources, that can be fairly easily adapted to it, thus giving me more creative and gameplay freedom.
Lots of compatible Ravenloft materials. Lots of resources exist for AD&D 2E which also has an easy conversion backwards, if I would ever need to have that, but again the difference between 1E and 2E are minor.
It's simpler. While it's obscure in nature, it is less complicated, and less restrictive with certain aspects of the game, compared to 3E/3.5.
It's crunchy enough. 5E is nice, but lacks a certain kind of crunch that I liked about the older editions. AD&D 1E might have just enough that will be still simple enough for solo play, that I don't have to spend too much time figuring out the system while playing.
In the next post I'll be exploring my options for the character and the first Domain of Dread.
But I think it's good to write down the foundation of the thought process, and I hope it gave perspective for you as a reader on what the hell I'm doing here.
Cheers,
Mythwriter

Strike Out Against Drugs is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
Tumblr media
Strike Out Against Drugs is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that operates in association with Hope For the Hurting, a larger  L.A. based umbrella organization that is committed to charity work. Our mission is to help build a drug free community and to help our younger generation make positive decisions. We need your help so that we can help young people by educating them on the dangers of short and long term drug and alcohol abuse and addiction. Through powerful personal testimonies, counseling, seminars, education, and panels we empower school aged children with specific knowledge about physical and mental health problems, difficulties in academics, and involvement with the juvenile justice system, for a few examples, that can occur as a result of drug abuse. We also teach young people how to set personal boundaries and we introduce them to valuable coping and problem solving skills that help them to manage stress and specific pressures. The young generation of today is highly technologically advanced and Strike Out Against Drugs is incorporating more sophisticated audio and visual equipment into its presentations in order to engage its listeners and provide a stronger and more lasting impact. Apart from basic funding that our organization requires for items such as travel and outreach resources, we are looking to update our presentation equipment that includes microphones, speakers, projectors, laptops, monitors, software, and documentary equipment. Our young students are most likely to hold onto the knowledge that we aim to pass on with items such as notebooks, pens, printed materials, and even ipads. Other items that we can leave them with so that they keep us in their day to day lives can include backpacks, stickers, buttons, and t-shirts aimed at their age group. It also helps to be able to provide lunches and snacks during the presentations. Strike Out Against Drugs also incorporates field trips and fun days in its list of programs to promote healthier relationships and activities, so we look for help with funding for these events too. There are so many ways for you to get involved, and our organization will do its best to spread the word about how you demonstrated your concern and joined us in this urgent cause. Our Children are our Greatest Blessings! They deserve the best thought-out and captivating presentations. In a letter of appreciation from LA CAUSA YouthBuild (Los Angeles Communities Advocating for Unity, Social Justice, and Action, Inc.), Case Manager Maria Aleman states that, “They (the students) enjoyed hearing the personal experiences you offered, as we felt some can relate and understand better by stories rather that information alone.” Your contribution will help us reach the targeted youths in all possible locations with smart and engrossing events, enhanced with updated technology, that are centered on drug and alcohol addiction as well as on building healthy drug free communities everywhere. Chasing Lanternflies: Voices of New Brunswick's Youth
Tumblr media
Last Sunday, local non-profit Hidden Gems Literary Emporium (which also doubles as an art gallery) hosted an open mic night that doubled as a launch party for the locally curated zine Chasing Lanternflies. 12 people total performed, mostly people sharing poetry, rap, or short story excerpts they had contributed to the zine.
For those unaware, zines (pronounced "zeens") are small-circulated, self-published works that include writing, art, and sometimes other activity/information/interview pages. They are typically made for and/or by a particular group. They originated among the geek (science & science-fiction) and punk communities, and are traditionally low-budget, and DIY in production and appearance. This zine was a bit more professional looking, but still stayed true to the roots of being of and to a particular audience. The contributor and coordinator, Kenia Hale (seen below on the right) described it as "a love letter or an artifact to the people [she] met here," and wanted to capture what its like to be a young person in this place and time.
In the next few paragraphs, I will review each of the performances, referred to as "acts"; however, I would like to note that regardless of any criticisms I may have, I acknowledge that it takes a rather large amount of chutzpah (courage) to present your work live, especially if you have little experience with it. On the whole the performers did quite well, and the environment was extremely supportive, with loud applause after every act, no matter how short or apprehensive. Additionally, I would like to note that one of the owners and co-founder of Hidden Gems, Kaila Boulware Sykes (seen below on the left), made a point to give each performer a book she specifically chose for them at the end of their reading. Not only do I love this idea, but I think it well illustrates the environment and community that they cultivate at Hidden Gems.
*Note: All name spellings and pronouns are the best I could surmise from introductions, as I did not get to talk with all of the artists*
Tumblr media
Act 1: Vivian- Going first for anything can be daunting, and on top of that it appeared that she didn't have much experience reading live. She sped through her piece and was somewhat difficult to understand at times. That being said, her piece was humorous and heartfelt, and I quite enjoyed listening to it.
Act 2: Sydney, stage name: Anja Muse- A very confident speaker, she performed 2 powerful and punchy spoken word/rap style pieces. Themes included black bodies and their relation to themself, self-love and acceptance, and taking back power/voice/love. The pieces themselves made use of rhyme, dry humor, consonance, assonance, and some double entendre. Sydney's delivery was clear, and showed intentional phrasing. Apparently a seasoned performer, she held the audience captive, and even earned a few outbursts of agreement for some lines, which they left space for.
Act 3: Trevon- Performed a spoken word piece that was very solidly grounded in location (New Brunswick) and vivid, concrete imagery. In contrast to this, there is a strong sense of pondering and mental wandering. The performance was good, but not particularly unusual/noteworthy. The writing itself was beautifully aware of sound, with alliteration, consonance, and assonance being prevalent.
Act 4: Gianni- This was more of a quick bit of info about the piece of art she submitted. It was a picture of a mosaic tray she made for her mom's birthday. She mentioned how she wanted to take inspiration from her Hispanic heritage, and shared amusing imagery of having to hide it from her mom while living in the same house. Timid in public speaking and discussing her work, she didn't go into too much detail.
Act 5: Shelly- Wrote a piece for the zine entitled "Flora and the Lanternflies" that was inspired by the zine itself and her friends. She read an abridged version of sorts, but did not give away the whole story. There were sharp transitions between locales that gave the impression of flashing vivid memories interrupting the main character's view of the forest in front of them. There was also an intriguing bit of tension between the innocent/dreamy quality of one setting with the sad and imperfect/harsh quality of the other. Shelly seemed fairly confident in her performance, and made an effort to distinguish this as a live experience by playing a forest soundscape in the background as she read.
Act 0/5.5: Truth, the young toddler son of Kaila was drawing throughout the show, on himself and paper apparently. His on-paper art was shared with us. Mostly abstract scribbles, which makes sense as I think he's about 2-3, but they showed an affinity for color fields that would probably make some abstract artists proud.
Act 6: Isa- The only musical performance of the night. She was going to sing with a backing track, and when it failed opted to just do it acapella. She did so wonderfully, with remarkably accurate pitch and a beautiful natural rasp to her voice. Her vocal style seemed to include some short clipped ends to lines. One of the people who was vocal in her encouragement throughout the night, and someone who spoke loud and clear on stage, it was evident performing was not new to her. This was unsurprising as it was mentioned that she was the singer for the local band Speak Easy. She also had 2 short poems that she shared, one personal and one about climate change. Both were visceral and gritty like her singing, and I personally loved them.
Act 7: Suzie- She read 2 poems, both of which were full of tactile imagery and unusual similes and metaphors. There were clear but dueling narrative voices, one cute/innocent, and one more adult/serious. What I really enjoyed though was that she altered her spoken voice to match the switches in narrative tone, resulting in a sense of embodiment that added greatly to the reading. On a separate note, she also unintentionally/subconsciously dressed like a lanternfly, which didn't really have much bearing on her performance, but was a fun little detail.
Act 8: Fatua- Also read 2 poems, both emotional poems about love and hardships, and assigning meaning to things in life. I regrettably was not able to get down the full first line for her poem "Don't Give Me Flowers", but I remember hearing it and just going "damn that was a good line." For her first time reading her work to a live audience, she did very well. She spoke mostly clearly, and didn't rush through her pieces, taking time to explain a little before reading them.
Act 9: Ianna- She shared a single piece entitled "Ode to Body", and took the time to explain some of her history with the piece, and how it was something she had tattooed onto herself as a physical reminder/manifestation of it. She also asked the audience to close our eyes for her reading so as to pay more attention to our own physicality and presence throughout the performance. She put a lot of passion into her reading, and she had a tendency to draw out the length of some words to emphasize them. It was a clear ode to oneself, one's body, and to owning one's power.
Act 10: Ashambue- A published author, and 3rd generation New Brunswick resident, he read a couple poems/raps from his book "Am I a pessimist?" There was a clear emphasis on rhyme and flow and feeling, with themes focusing on day-to-day struggles of life in America nowadays. The second poem he read had a clear and apt extended metaphor of racism in America as an abusive relationship. Clearly comfortable speaking/performing, he was intentional in his phrasing, and unafraid to talk about his history and experiences.
Act 11: Karim- His pieces focused on themes of masculinity and femininity, life as a queer black man, and loss. He seemed a bit unsure of himself/anxious about performing, but spoke well. His performance voice differed from his normal speaking voice, and had a round, full quality to it that emphasized the gravity of his writing. That combined with his use of even, almost hypnotic cantor, and direct but beautiful language legitimately gave me chills at one point.
Act 12: Kenia- Closing the night, the curator of this whole endeavor shared an excerpt of the short story she submitted to the zine. A speculative fiction piece that centered queer love and the idea of both separated and found families/community, it blended imagination and science beautifully. The general premise seemed simple but interesting, and the scientific aspects seemed well-researched. She was another person who seemed mostly comfortable performing.
Overall, it was a pretty cool night, full of lots of different perspectives and voices of young people in a true Hidden Gem (pun absolutely intended) of a location here in New Brunswick.

The importance and advantages of language and accent for commercial voice over artists
Tumblr media
Language And Accents For Commercial Voice Over Artists
Language is an integral part of any communication. Multilingual means the ability of a person to speak multiple languages fluently. As a commercial voice over artist, being multilingual gives you an advantage over non-multilingual voice over artists.
Apart from English, the following are the top ten in demand languages in the voice-over industry. They are:
Spanish
French
German
Arabic
Portuguese
Mandarin
Italian
Japanese
Russian
Dutch
Tumblr media
The following benefits come with being a multilingual commercial voice over artist:
Benefits of being a multilingual commercial voice over artist
Along with passion, dedication, hard work, and unique voice skills, having good command over multiple languages help set you apart from other commercial voice over actors.
Helps to diversify: Being a multilingual voice-over artist sets a stage for diversification in the voice-over field. It helps you get more voice-over jobs from different languages
Increases income: A multilingual commercial voice over actor can record the original voice and other languages. It saves the clients from looking for dubbing artists, thereby increasing your income.
Consistent voice: If the same voice over artist can do the original voice-over and dubbing, the voice is consistent throughout all the recordings.
You might already be multilingual or might be still in the process of learning and mastering different languages. In either situation, be sure to mention the following aspects while approaching the prospective clients:
Mention what you know and how much you know: Always mention the languages you can speak fluently. If you have learned the language as a course, say the level you have completed.
Prove your language skills with a demo: Clients who look for a voice-over artist for their projects invest their time and money. As a commercial voice over artist, keep your language demo recordings handy. Make separate demos for each of the languages in which you are fluent. These demos make the screening process fast and easy for the clients, increasing your chances of getting a voice-over job.
Never give a false impression: Provide the demos in the languages you are fluent in. Since demos are short, it might be tempting to do it in a language you are still learning, but faking it could be a permanent black mark on your career as a commercial voice over artist. It will be much more difficult if hired based on false demos since the real voice-over projects are longer and need consistent fluency in a language.
Apart from being multilingual, commercial voice over artists must be aware and fluent in the different accents. Accents help to influence and captivate the audience. It is easy to learn a language, but the real challenge comes when you have to give up your mother tongue accent and pick up a new accent. But with practice and perseverance,  commercial voice-over actors can master accents and become successful and sought-after.
The next aspect that would go parallel to the language is the accent. An accent is a way that people speak a particular language. Accents of the same language differ according to the geographical region or country. For instance, the English spoken in Australia has a different accent than the English in the UK.
Tumblr media
How to pick up a new accent?
Some accents are easy to pick up, but some require a lot of time and effort.
As a commercial voice-over artist, you can pick up and master an accent with these three simple tips and tricks steps:
Listening skills: Listening is the critical component of learning a new accent. Listen to people who speak with an accent. Listening to speakers with authentic accents rather than movie actors is best.
Train your mouth: The next step is to try and imitate what you hear with the proper movement of your mouth. Every sound or syllable has a place in the mouth while speaking. Observe how the lip, tongue, and mouth move for different accents.
Practice to perfection: Practice is the only way to perfect your accents. Practice, not by just reading the lines, but try using the accents in your daily life. It helps you to get speed and fluency. If possible, record and playback your accents to find your flaws.
Get a trainer: If it seems impossible to pick up an accent by yourself through the above steps, you can hire a trainer or enroll in some classes.
Tumblr media
Some important aspects of learning any accent
Learning a new accent is like learning a new skill that requires some training. Commercial voice-over actors need to do different accents to be able to capture a variety of audiences. Following these aspects can make your accent learning a fun process.
Phonetics: Phonetics is the sound a particular letter in the alphabet makes. Phonetics changes with the languages. You can start mastering an accent by learning the phonetics of that language.
Melody: Every accent has its own musicality. Some accents are soft, while some require a lot of pressure in the mouth while speaking.
Rhythm: Rhythm refers to the high and low tone patterns in an accent. Some accents have a consistent rhythm, while others have frequent rhythm variations.
Grammar rules: As a commercial voice-over artist, you must learn a language and master the accent like a native speaker. To achieve this fluency in an accent, you need to have a more profound knowledge of grammar usage. Grammar rules are different over languages. So first, get the grammar rules right.
Meanings of words: Meanings of words differ over different accents. Understanding the meaning helps provide a context for the word. For example, a torch in British English is called a flashlight in American English. A pharmacist in American English is called a chemist in Australian English.
Tumblr media
Language and accent complement each other. It is meaningless to learn a language without the perfect accent. Commercial voice over artists need to tingle the audiences' emotions to capture their interests which can only be achieved through the perfect use of language and accent.

You've prayed for them, manifested them into your life. You've asked and received.
They've broken tradition in some way. Either in their family, social group/community or they will be the one who breaks your usual type.
A very good listener. Has a penetrative gaze, their facial expressions are actually very emotive. You'd actually find it fascinating.
Anytime they're stressed they'll go and take a walk or be out in nature. They gather inspiration from there as well. They value they quiet time but they also work well with others. They know several people likely but trust very few. Probably have this same set of close friends for the past several years. They don't really open up easily but their aura is comforting. Pretty non judgemental and grounded.
A leader / has latent leadership qualities in a group setting. (can have a strong Aries or Mars influence in them)
Might be into puzzles, board games, putting things together.
Experimental and changes their look often. But they pull it off brilliantly.
Looks really good in red and / or white.
Strong morals, strong sense of right and wrong. They could be going through something but it's not easily visible on their face. Could have an air rising (gemini, libra or aquarius) or can keep a poker face.
Very attractive. Since they do change their appearance often they have definitely bleached their hair at one point. Fair skin with a sun-kissed glow / tan to them. Broad - strong shoulders, narrow waist, strong legs. Might have played sports or is good at sports. This is someone who learns things relatively quick given how attentive they are.
I'm tempted to say they have daddy vibes. Yes even if they identify as female. They have the BDE.
Ambivert but leaning a little more towards the introvert side. However in social settings they do handle things well given their confidence regardless of how shy they can be. However once you get to know them they'd be very quirky and funny around you. The kind to randomly do a weird tik tok challenge but for you/close friends/cuz they felt like it and not the camera
Cinematography, cinema, editing, photography.
Well travelled, street smart and knowledgeable.
They love hoarding knowledge, you'd be surprised.
You'll meet them when you leave a place/location or situation that's been causing you stress and giving you more anxiety and repression than peace and progress. Highly likely during travel or once you've relocated to some place.
2.
Sensual. So damn sensual and captivating. They look unreal sometimes honestly it's intimidating.
Something about their voice is downright so enchanting and sexy. You can't help but feel attracted to them, it's almost annoying how drawn you feel. (possible lilith rising, could have scorpio and taurus or capricorn placements) I mean I wouldn't be surprised if they sing, have an asmr channel, are a speaker, spokesperson or representative etc
Very dreamy, rather spiritual as well. They definitely have faith in something that they feel is above them. They seem a little prone to really vivid dreams as well as nightmares. Might even be a bit clairvoyant or Clairsentient.
Secure in their business and career might own a business actually. Thing is there is a lot of goals they want to accomplish. But they're not the kind to stall it, they actively go for it. They don't care, they'll achieve it. Especially if you tell them that they can't, then they definitely will. However their ambitions aren't the shallow kind, they really do want to leave a mark or simply express themselves for how they are on the inside.
Either they look like a complete softie, care bear, mom friend or they look like a siren or what Christian Grey thought he was or they have the aura Eric Draven had in The Crow or Maleficent carries. There's no in between. They switching positions like that Ariana song.
They have the most kissable lips.
Highly likely have tattoos because they love the sensation of getting inked.
Tall, lean, Dark hair, dark eyes, beauty spots, really nice hands. Look really good in every shade of blue and green, black (definitely black) and even certain floral or geometric prints. They may also like wearing accessories a lot.
For some reason I saw a crown.
Emotional and intense, they need a creative outlet of expression or they shut down. Like, I kid you not they need to at least once completely lose themselves in something then come home and pass out on the sofa.
Expect a lot of thoughtful random gifts and display of affections from them. They're a bit possesive, I almost feel they can be a little bratty but oh when they look at you, they have eyes only for you. Talking to them is finding a best friend from a life you have no knowledge of but yet it feels right.
Sincere
Trust
Romantic
Passionate
Beach baby / loves the water. Doesn't really like the cold as much.
They may have a pet? They seem to be very good with animals.
You'd meet them when you feel really good about yourself, you'd be really feeling yourself or would have achieved something. Making travel plans or setting your next goals it might even be night. It'll feel perfect actually, right it happened at the right time. You'd be getting signs though but I feel you'd be preparing yourself for other exciting stuff to take proper note of them and boom it happens.
3.
An explorer, a seeker, a student who wants to keep learning, keep being a ray of sunshine in everyone's life.
They seek their soul family/found family or would really want a family of their own someday. Very good with kids likely or at most, very patient with different types of people.
Honestly if they were a Pokémon they'd be bulbasaur.
Regardless of their age they're very youthful, the inner child is intact.
They might dress very vintage or old school. Very laid back actually. Also something about walking barefeet on wooden floors came up. They look they belong in a old photograph / polaroid almost. I'm not getting much on their looks besides they look like they belong in a painting or old polaroid. They feel like home, they feel like laying in a field and relishing the golden hour, they feel the the type whose hand you'd hold and run off with. Red and browns are definitely their color, they pull of the muted tones really well. (almost thought of Taylor Swift's Willow music video)
Might have a strong aquarius and capricorn influence in their chart as well.
Their upbringing may not have been in the best conditions but they've worked very hard or are working very hard to improve their quality of life or give back to their family in some way. In some way they've turned their life around. They did a full 180. Crazy.
Deep voice. Warm whispers.
Honey in tea.
Carnations, lilies and red grapes.
They'd like to celebrate the little victories in their life with you. They get happy over the simple things so much, I can just feel my heart melt because of this person and their smile. They're so affectionate and kind and it's making me tear up almost. Wow.
Also they smell really nice. Flowery notes maybe?
They love touching foreheads.
Might play an instrument or paint.
Honestly, I kid you not. They feel straight out of a fantasy book. The closest characters I can think of is Westley from Princess Bride, Aurora from Maleficent and Belle from Beauty and the beast.
You'll likely meet them when you've shut out something toxic in your life. You may not even be looking for love, this might be after a break up even, you may even be escaping a situation or be away from a gathering and be around New people / faces you aren't as familiar with when this happens. Your anxiety will ease around this person. You might even had a passing thought or dream of this scenario before it happens but you'll brush off the thought thinking that isn't possible or something, then you'll be in for a surprise regardless.
