What he doesn’t realize is that his genuine effort and desire to be a good boyfriend make him adorably imperfect, leading to unexpectedly sweet moments.

Hiori doesn’t know how to express his emotions properly. He’s great at thinking about what he wants to do for you, but terrible at actually saying it.

I hope you can excuse this, but I'll use this ask as a mini vent post! Nothing super graphic, just my general gripes with the world. Feel free to skip it!

In all honestly, I've gotten insanely rude comments on my Strawpage. You know- the usual. Death threats, telling me to kill myself, how my art sucks and I deserve to be hit by a car, that I am an abuser, an enabler and an overall shitty person... The usual. Aside from an anon denouncing my Christianity, nothing really hits deep. I find solace in the fact that I've never told anyone to kill themselves, which, me thinks, defacto makes me a better person than all of these people. Or a single person. Idk who wrote these, they're all anonymous.

Even so, if there were a million people breathing down my neck telling me I was wrong, just having three of you guys telling me you enjoy my work, is enough for me to stand my ground and keep creating.

On a different note, i... Feel shitty. I fell back into looking at numbers, calculating optimal posting times and scanning over every single interaction my posts get. Tumblr was manageable! Very small audience, nice and peaceful atmosphere. Twitter? Oh, man. The analytics stare down at me and I stare back. Numbers are losing meaning and becoming a statistic that *has* to grow everyday, lest I'm a failure. I'm thinking of giving the account over to my friends - but still. Large part of me doesn't want to, and I know exactly why (the numbers). And I can't exactly stop posting.. It'll be a good gateway for commissions, and yk. SOMEONE has to pay for Smilks lavish lifestyle 🙄

I completely agree with this post by @apparentlybychance and what I write below is from my perspective. My understanding comes from the perspective of someone who studied marketing since 2019, is a community manager and currently works in a marketing agency. 

You are not compelled to take everything I say as the real and only way to look at it, this is my opinion and I respect others as well.

It's clear that Louis needs a new marketing team, as the current one doesn't seem to be doing its job properly or, worse, doesn't even seem to understand what they're doing. Their attempts to divert attention to topics such as his "fatherhood" or sexuality are way too obvious, while his music is poorly promoted. Many fans try to fill that gap by promoting his music organically, but it doesn't have much impact as we are not an enormous fandom and it's not our responsibility either. Moreover, the fan base shrinks with every failed "strategy", which generates disinterest, anger and abandonment of the fandom. This is also reflected in the organisation and promotion of their shows and music releases. 

The worrying thing is that this mismanagement is not new; it has been going on since the beginning of his solo career. Some justify this by saying that Louis prefers to be an underground/indie artist and be left alone with the usual fans, but that makes no sense, that's just a justification for the bad actions of his team. No artist seeks to stagnate or limit his growth. To advocate without questioning every decision of an artist's background doesn't mean being a "bad fan", and it is important to understand that questioning the strategy is not attacking the artist. 

It is frustrating to see that many fans believe that Louis doesn't really want to grow as an artist, which, again, makes no sense. The problem is the lack of planning and analysis on the part of his team, who act without foreseeing the long-term consequences. I don't understand this image they want to give him, because as a fan for years, this is not the Louis I grew up with. Maybe he's trying to distance himself from One Direction and avoid the mainstream stuff, which is admirable, but this kinda rude and distant image doesn't seem to align with his original (and real) essence. 

Those of us who work in marketing and communication have a different, more analytical and technical vision, which allows us to detect patterns and strategies (or the lack of them). This is not a justification to invalidate other opinions in any way, but to offer an informed perspective. With Louis, it is clear that there is no clear strategy. His team seems to improvise, as if every decision is made without a long-term plan, simply reacting in the moment.

The resurgence of the babygate stuff a few days ago is another example of this lack of planning. From the outset it seems to have been an idea launched without considering the consequences and, now that it has grown out of control, they don't know how to handle it or shut it down for good. This only creates more chaos as the years go by. The exposure of the child has been contradictory from the beginning: How can you justify wanting to protect his privacy when he was initially exposed so much by his whole family, from pregnancy onwards, and then included in the documentary "All of These Voices"? Nothing has any coherence if you analyse it at all.

As for the blocking on Twitter, it is hard to believe that Louis has blocked so many accounts without it being known beforehand. It's an absurd and ineffective tactic to manage the narrative of his public image. I agree with the post that "Louis and his team are no different. They like to use subtle tactics like blocking, following, unfollowing or general interactions on their social accounts (mainly X) to manage the narrative of their public image" as this is part of a strategy that has been carried over from One Direction, like when he tweeted "I am in fact straight" or "Larry is the biggest load of bullshit I've ever heard".

Or Another example we can name is this 2012 interaction with Rebecca Ferguson, where she expresses the overexploitation she was receiving and "Louis" replies "Success is impossible without proper hard work". That contradictory image does not fit with the Louis that many of us fans have known and followed for years. Why would an artist seek to lose fans and, therefore, limit his growth?

Over time, all this has made their actions feel fake and automated. As a fan, one ends up questioning and analysing every action from another perspective, as nothing seems genuine or truthful. His "Hope everyone is doing alright" tweets seem scripted and even programmed, lacking that closeness that used to exist. While we know that artists' social media accounts are controlled, the fan/artist connection remains crucial to maintaining public support and loyalty. When repetitive patterns and bad strategies accumulate, the authenticity of the artist is lost, turning him into a kind of "robot" with no control over his actions, which can end up damaging his image and damaging the relationship with his fans, often without him being fully aware of it. 

From a music marketing perspective, there are several key aspects that Louis' team seems to ignore. An effective marketing team should focus on  research and investigation of the audience, clearly identifying the artist's target audience, considering factors such as age, interests and content consumption platforms. The lack of consistent branding is evident, as Louis' public image doesn't appear to align with his musical and personal essence, leading to confusion.

A well-planned release strategy should include a pre-launch campaign with teasers, interviews and strategic collaborations, something that seems to be absent in most of his projects. In addition, multi-channel promotion is essential, using social media, interviews, streaming playlists and specialised press, without relying exclusively on fandom. A competent team should also focus on authentic storytelling, creating an emotional and genuine narrative to connect with the audience, rather than resorting to polemical tactics that distort his image.

Fan growth and retention is another key aspect. Good marketing seeks to expand the fan base while maintaining the interest of the current, as opposed to what appears to be happening. Finally, long-term planning is essential, with measurable goals and clear direction, rather than reactive and inconsistent decisions.

In conclusion, Louis' team is not managing his career professionally or effectively. Successful marketing requires planning, analysis and authenticity. His fans deserve a clear and respectful narrative, and he deserves a team that will really promote his music and his career. I hope that for LT3 we have a good promotion, that his team starts to get things right because I don't want his career to continue to suffer consequences from this, besides from his image to be ruined by the mismanagement of those working with him.

Can I ask you how you ended up a purchasing manager and what the "technically" means? I've been a purchaser for a couple years and I'm trying to figure out what to do next. I've taken my role in much more of a creating-reports and helping-people-with-data direction than probably purchasers are supposed to, so idk if I should look for another purchasing job or something else

We're a tiny, tiny (less than 10 employee) company so I'm kind of a one-person procurement department with about eight other roles stacked on top (including marketing, website administration, and proofreading my boss's emails).

The purchasing part of what I do is I manage vendor relationships and customer licensing through our vendors, and I research hardware and configure hardware solutions for our clients then do the ordering and order management.

I think my boss's goal with "purchasing" as a job description is just to keep me distinct from accounts payable/receivable (because of the type of business we are, the purchaser at this company needs to have a significant degree of computer literacy, so the role has always been far removed from the accounting department at this business; I'm not a tech, I'm not sales, I'm not precisely an office admin, but I kind of am those things stuck in a blender with an executive assistant).

"Technically" just means that "purchasing manager" is what the business puts on my tax form but I don't have the requisite freedom to make choices to *legally* be considered a manager in California (so 'technically' purchasing manager is my job description in actual fact, but i don't 'technically' meet the requirements of being a manager - my job title is fake).

I think that in normal procurement jobs there is some data crunching that is required, but I see it more as logistics than analytics. If you're more interested in the analytics side of things than the logistical stuff, it may be worthwhile to cast your net outside of the purchasing pool.

rings of power, s2 eps7-8

I don't actually know if Sauron is my favorite character in the show or not, but he definitely consumes my thoughts the most, that's for sure.

Reactions to individual episodes first, then I'm going to pick away at the "Opportunist vs Planner" thoughts that I have on Sauron now that I've watched both s1 & s2 in a separate post. I think I want to do some rewatching of specific scenes for it.

This has spoilers for the show plus what I remember from LotR.

episode 7: Everything with Celebrimbor and Sauron is the centerpiece of this episode for me. Wow. So gripping and painful. Celebrimbor finally forcing his mind past the illusions that Sauron has wrapped around them.

So instead of mithril, the Nine Rings for the Men were made in part with Sauron's blood. Maybe that's the reason that the kings become wraiths in the future, instead of it being an inherent flaw in humans (at least in RoP continuity).

Lots of battle scenes, which I never really can feel analytical about. Except to note that, in this case, I feel like the times when people choose or don't choose to fight likely has a great impact on morale: the orcs saw very clearly that the Elves were willing to halt the fighting in order to attempt to make a play to save Galadriel's life when she was captive. Vs Adar throwing them into the meat grinder in order to get this Sauron guy that has never directly harmed any of them (that they know of). Adar says that he's doing this to prevent them from being Sauron's slaves, but these Uruks have never experienced being Sauron's slaves (yet).

"Elven memories do not dim" was said by Arondir a couple of episodes ago, but the meaning of it is tangled throughout the show -- elven memories do not dim, and so Galadriel chases a ghost for centuries because of the death of her brother. Elven memories do not dim, and so the Southlanders are kept a careful watch over and held accountable for the choices of their ancestors. Elven memories do not dim, and so Adar's desire to kill Sauron is as sharp now as it was when he first killed Sauron centuries ago and he cannot step back and think through it all logically and see that he is playing into Sauron's hands by treating his own people's lives as cheaply as Annatar is treating the lives of the elves of Eregion.

The tight (yet flawed) grip that Annatar has on Eregion also shows how deeply flawed his plans for Middle-Earth are. He papers over atrocity and calls it holding back the storm. But Celebrimbor was able to put his finger on the deepest flaw, which is that Sauron has convinced himself of his own righteousness. He believes that he's doing all this for his lasting peace, for the healing of Middle-Earth, for the perfection of the world. And any means are justified to achieve that end, in his mind.

But... and I can't remember where I saw this quote, which is a shame, but the thing is that there is no great end. It's all means. You never reach that perfect world of peace and healing, so all you end up with is the blood and terror that you caused in your attempts to create your impossible ending. But Sauron... I think he genuinely believes that if he only had more power, more control... then he could achieve that perfect world. If only everyone would stop fighting him, then everything would be great!

A tyrant, as Galadriel said last season. That's a tyrant's way of thinking. As he proves with what he does with Eregion, a city that is tightly under his control at this point -- he makes it into a bloody battlefield, and he uses up the people he is pretending to protect, because they are simply tools for him. (Poor Mirdania had a particularly nasty ending)

The conversation between Galadriel and Celebrimbor was really beautiful. Both in him extending hope to her, and also the two of them sharing that moment of recognizing that they'd both fallen for Sauron's words because they wanted to believe him. But Celebrimbor also reassuring her both that he is not certain if anyone is strong enough to fight Sauron when he's at his most persuasive and that "it is not strength that overcomes darkness, but light". I feel like there was a lot in his speech that calls forward to what does eventually defeat Sauron in the end. Not strength of arms, not even strength of will, but kindness, even pity, and the ability to keep going in the darkest of times.

Elrond has really come into his own in this season. S2 has been great for Elrond all the way through. And his hair has been looking great too. I loved the scene with him and Durin. <3

My mom feels like the world is doomed and Sauron has gotten everything that he wanted, or will get it soon (and wanted us to watch the next episode as quickly as possible). Very stressful episode for her!

episode 8: The moment when Sauron kills the orc (Glug, I think?) is darkly funny, but it also once again makes a point that the show has made before: surrendering to the invading evil doesn't get rewarded in the end.

The Southlanders who knelt to Adar were the first wave sent against their own people: cannon fodder to die.

And now the main Orc that we've seen through the season is casually killed by Sauron after his switch in loyalty led to Adar's death. Just like Adar did last season with the Southlanders, Sauron divided the Uruks against each other this season and, just like last season, the ones who surrendered their power to him were then basically on the front lines of being the next to die.

This was a strong episode overall. Not as focused as the last episode, because we checked in with all the other plotlines too, but still good.

So Durin IV has all the dwarven rings in his possession. He knows how dangerous they are. He has the connection to Elrond. But we also know that the rings resist being lost and cannot be destroyed by conventional means (Celebrimbor tried melting the Nine Rings and failed).

Gandalf has his name! And it sounds like the Harfoots and the Stoors are about to reunite and potentially become the Hobbits. I will say, RoP really redeemed Tom Bombadil for me. I never really had any positive feelings about him from the book, kinda found him annoying, but he was genuinely charming and likable in RoP.

Numenor has come to claim Pelagir as a vassel state. So it will be interesting to see where that goes. And Elendil is off to see his Mysterious Other Son on the West Part of the Island. I did not recognize the son's name, though maybe I should have, idk. But Numenor wants to cut down the forest that Arondir only just promised that they wouldn't cut down so... so that promise isn't going well.

Sauron's scenes with Celebrimbor and then Galadriel gave me a lot to think about. Both of them were able to make Sauron angry enough to lash out at them and get through the veneer of patience that he was trying to put on. I am going to want to think over those scenes some more. Definitely rewatching at least those scenes again. I feel like there was a lot going on there.

The scene with Adar and Galadriel was also really good. Heartbreaking but good. And it was a great contrast to Sauron, actually! Because both Sauron and Adar express an interest in creating a lasting peace -- only Adar then takes action to lay down his arms and make the first step towards peace with Galadriel by giving her back her ring. Meanwhile Sauron is, you know, torturing people, destroying a city, etc.

I feel like this season has done a lot of bookends and mirrors. Galadriel falling off a cliff to keep Nenya from Sauron echoes Elrond jumping off into the waterfall to keep the Three Rings from Gil-galad and Galadriel at the start of the season. And, of course, Adar using the Orcs to murder Sauron in the first episode leading to Sauron choosing that same method to kill him in this episode.

Both Celebrimbor and Adar seemed to be used, in part, to give us information about Galadriel and her feelings and reactions to Sauron. Again, something I think I want to poke at after rewatching some scenes. More thoughts later after I've had some time to think about it, I think.

Next season, I'd love to see Sauron and Morgoth interacting in a flashback! I feel like we would learn so much. We've gotten hints about their relationship (Sauron directly compares how he's treating Celebrimbor with how Morgoth treated him) but I'd love a flashback.

It seems like we're going to get the establishment of Rivendell next season. I kinda assume that's where they ended up.

My mom was really glad that (most of) her favorite characters survived! Also, I learned that her two favorite characters are Theo and Isildur, which I would not have predicted. She was glad to get some hope at the end of the episode after everything seemed so grim at the end of ep7. She loved the character development over the course of the season. The two characters she feels are the most attractive are Adar and Sauron (but Sauron has cold eyes and is less attractive as Annatar than as Halbrand, so Adar wins).

On transandrophobia and the concept of co-substantiality

I refrained from talking on this topic as it's not a debate in my french leftist circles but seeing how it's prevalent here on tumblr, I think it's a good opportunity to talk about some concepts.

First of all, on a linguistic note, people people create words to suit their needs. The etymology doesn't matter : if transandrophobia is created to description "the specific oppression that trans men suffer", it does not imply that mysandry exists. It's an opression specific to an identity.

This bring me to a critique of some interpretation of intersectionalty. That it would only be intersection of oppressions. As you can't be oppress as a man, there is no intersection between being a man and being trans (so no need to use a different word than general transphobia).

This interpretation is honestly baffling. I'll take an example that I think everybody will agree on : Black men are more often arrested by police (or killed, or put in prison...) than white people because of the racial integral state. But also more than black women, why is that, how can we explain that this police brutality is more harsh on black men ? The same reason as the stereotypes saying that black men are more violent, criminal... This is a specific oppression for black men (who may choose to create a word to describe it).

This is not to say that black men are more opressed than black women. There are differences on the kind of racism that they suffer. Intersectionality is not the addition of oppression, it is used to describe specific interactions of class, race and gender and the social relations associated with them. (even if in general men oppress women, everything depend on the social relations)

There are still a lot of critics of intersectionality to do. As a materialist, I prefer the notion of co-substantiality of the social relations (CSSR) (coined by Danièle Kergoat, french sociologist).

A social relation is a antagonistic relation between two social groups around an issue. it's a relation of material and ideal production.

Social relations are co-substantial : they form a knot that cannot be cut at the level of social practices (except from an analytical sociology perspective) and they are co-extensif : when deployed, the social relations of class, gender and race reproduce and co-produce with each other.

CSSR doesn't naturalized the categories for example : "workers and woman" are part of gender and class relations. Sometimes in the struggle, they can form a collectif subject, original in its practices, but a subject always in process and not reductible to that category.

This is the main issue with intersectionality "mapping the margins" this means fixing the categories, naturalizing them. This concept struggles to reflect a shifting and historical relation of domination.

Multiplicity of categories hide the social relations. But we cannot separate social categories and social relations where they were made. Working with those categories is risking to leave blind spot. Spots that can be the strongest aspects of domination, just as they can be bearers of resistance.

Co-substantiality is the complex dynamic interweaving of all social relations; each leaving its mark on the others, modulating each other, building each other up in a reciprocal way; the fact that they form a system does not exclude contradictions between them.

Refusing to reason in terms of fixed entities allows us to put the political subject (and not just the victims of domination) back at the center of analysis, taking into account all its ambivalent and often ambiguous practices.

Forgive yourself for the rough relationship you have had with your body over the years. The relationship we had with our bodies growing up is the prime reason it takes a lot for us to learn to trust ourselves again. There is so much unlearning we have to be willing to do. When I was younger, I loved to read and prided myself off being a good thinker. If I could have bypassed my body into enlightenment in high school, I would have done it because the last thing I cared about doing was feeling--deeply feeling and hated being called a “cry baby” when I was much younger. I had a sharp analytical mind and was on the math and debate teams in middle and high school and graduated with 3 Bachelor degrees-accounting, biology, and chemistry. I couldn't decide what subject I liked the most and decided to major in them all over a 6 year period. I am grateful that I came across this path of love and way of beauty and opening/expansion in my late 20s because it is truly the purest form of energy. I am thankful that I could reclaim the lost parts of me that brought me back to my soul, alongside strength and flexibility, and is aging me well. It's often the very subtle violence and abuse we normalize with our female bodies, like living mostly in our heads, that creates the most harm overtime. Doctors won't tell us that because they honestly do not know the deeper mysteries or practicalities of being female. We know the obvious ways we harm ourselves (our cells), like when being intimate with the wrong people or drinking too much, but we often miss the more subtle, culturally-acceptable ways encouraged by society and how we learn to socialize together. Sugar used to be my baby, my drug of choice. I used to keep cookies and candy near my bed at night and snack while watching television. I would sweetened everything-toast, cereals, teas, and enjoyed plenty of cakes, pies, and other sugary items. I loved pretty, well-made, high-quality, sugary pasteries from the fancy artisanal bakery as well. But after some years, too much sugar ages you faster than what is necessary. Because sugar, refined sugar, even too much sugar alternatives like agave or coconut sugar, processes as a stimulant or drug to the body. Even white carbohydrate foods like potatoes, rice, white bread, etc. turn into sugar once digested. And most people eat a load of carbs and dessert afterwards on a regular basis, which increases their chance of chronic pain, especially as they get older. Too many carbs or sugar actually represses your body and decreases your female libido. There are a few exceptions to people who can eat more carbs, such as long-distance runners, high-intensity athletes or very thin people with high metabolic rates, and the like. Think about how your body feels after you have had incredible sex with a lover. Mm. The very act of healthy lovemaking is deeply warming, grounding, and relaxing. It is extremely embodying to center this feeling and impulse, this grounded rooted core, in your life, even when you are not making love. If you practice this, it will positively impact every area of your life. Reclaim the beauty of your body just for your own love and care, and not simply for the public gaze and consumption. Breathe life back into your body by limiting or greatly reducing your sugar consumption and get into autophagy, which cleanses your cells and tissues and radiates your light. Move your energy out of your head a little more often and discover ways to stay in your body from the neck down. And witness the differences in how you feel and emanate overtime. Not that long ago I threw out the idea of creating a Journey to the West reading group, and was delighted to see a fair number of people interested in the prospect! So in the effort to see this come to fruition while still taking into account everyone's different schedules, time zones, and busy lives, here's my general proposal for how this will work:

The version of Xiyouji that this reading group will start with will be the Anthony C. Yu English translation, firstly because while long it is the most complete and accurate translation out there, and secondly because thanks to @journeytothewestresearch it is completely free to download and read as pdfs! I'll create a separate blog specifically for this reading group, which will act as something of a hub/archive for people's analysis, art, reactions, memes, criticisms, additions of context, etc. as we make our way through the journey. The schedule that I'm thinking of would be to do one chapter per week, which would be more or less 20 pages per week. This group would "meet" every Sunday, which would be the day participants are encouraged to finish that week's chapter and/or submit their creative/analytical pieces about it. Sunday would also be the day where I'd give a quick recap on that week's chapter, and would mass reblog anything participants submitted to have that work in the archive. This is what I imagine for starters, but if it works out well we could try organizing larger events or even chat rooms.

I haven't been active in any Solas tag since Veilguard came out, because, generally speaking, Solas stans have been a bit unhinged and hateful to a lot of people in the DA community, including devs and people I consider my friends. It would be unsurprising to me if they were now cannibalizing their own circles.

In numerous cases, masking is actually yet another tool of our oppression: rather than allowing us to pass through the world as neurotypical, it restricts us to an even narrower realm of expression than non-Autistics get to enjoy. When we’re masking, we might believe we’ve unlocked the guidebook to seeming normal and likeable, but actually, we’ve just located the muzzle that was already on our mouths.

There are times when a person must mask for their own safety. Black and brown Autistics use masking to protect themselves from violent white supremacy and police killings. Autistics interfacing with the medical or psychiatric system often have to mask to be treated with respect. It’s perilous to be openly Autistic while we are at work.

Sometimes, masking is necessary. But the fact that it is necessary does not make it good — and the fact masking may bring us some short-term relief doesn’t mean it’s compatible with any of us leading an actually liberated life. To get free, we must escape the social conditions that demand that we mask, as often and as fully as we can.

When it comes to making friends, collaborating, or meeting new people within an even playing field, masking puts many of us at a sharp disadvantage — but by being a little bit more openly freaky and nonconforming, we may discover that the right people actually like us more.

Like the OP of this Reddit post, I used to communicate by attending to content, not energy. I would practice conversations in the mirror, and learn conversational scripts from TV shows like Hannibal and Mad Men (not the best training base, I know). If somebody asked me a question about how my day was going, or what my favorite book was, I thought really long and hard about what the optimal answer was, and how to translate that answer into something pleasing or socially acceptable.

Everything I did and said was meticulously gamed out. And I failed at socializing. Because what most people picked up on was the gaming. They got a calculated, distant energy from me, and that made them wary. People could sense that I was uncomfortable, and they didn’t want to bother me or intrude, and so they gave me a wide berth.

I know that my hyper-analytic, sarcastic self will never appeal to everyone, and in contentious situations, I’m quite comfortable being disliked. But in order to bond with the people I actually might like, I had to learn to relax enough to be present and receptive to other people’s energies.
