Did you know that I've also tried my hand at board game design? This is my unnamed co-op modern monster apocalypse tile game that borrows a lot from fellow tile-based adventure-survival game Betrayal at House on the Hill.

The basic idea is that the players are randomly assigned an apocalyptic scenario and two adventure environments and depending on which combination is rolled the game will play out differently. The game plays out in two phases with each phase taking place in a different adventure environment, and the goals of both adventure environments must be achieved to win. For example, if the plant scenario is rolled, the first adventure environment is the catacombs, and the second adventure environment is the park, the players must do two things to win: In phase 1 they must search the catacombs for roots that need to be burned to advance, and in phase two they must storm the park to kill a giant bulb that has grown there and is releasing spores across the city. I didn't want to go overboard to start with so I only made a few scenarios and adventure environments, namely: Enemy Scenarios: Plants, zombies, monsterization, old gods, nuclear, and virus

Adventure Environments: catacombs, the streets, the office tower, and the park.

A real quick explainer for the elements you see pictured above:

The large central tile is the adventure hub. There is item storage at the hub and multiple places to embark from.

The smaller tiles are room tiles. Each room tile has three color coded values. Red is enemies, blue is items, and green is an event. Whenever a tile is first flipped from the stack and added to the board, a number of dice of each color are added based on what the tile's values are.

Enemies must be beaten before item and quest dice on a tile can be claimed.

The tile stacks on the right are the tiles for the 1st and 2nd phase. Once phase 2 starts the phase 1 tiles are removed from the board and players begin exploring again drawing from the other stack.

At the top left is a character sheet. Character sheets are a little more complicated so let's take a closer look at that snout.

Each player has a character that looks like this, more-or-less. They have a name, a moniker, two unique abilities, a health stat, an energy stat, and a symbol that represents a non-unique ability, in this case being a that he can walk through tiles with enemies on them.

Item cards that a character collects are placed in the inventory slots on the character sheet. Items are things like weapons, ammo, healing items, etc.

The meaning of the weapon icons from left to right:

The crosshair is what you must roll on a d6 to hit with attacks using the weapon.

The muzzle flash is how many attacks the weapon can make when you attack with it.

The explosion is how much damage it deals on a hit.

The bullets are how much ammo the weapon holds in a magazine followed by a letter that represents whether the gun uses small or large bullets. Pistols uses small bullets while shotguns uses large bullets, for example.

This character begins with a companion card. Companions are NPCs that accompany the player and provide some bonus.

You can see that the player die is mentioned on rex's card so this is a good time to point out that the dice in the above picture aren't placeholders and are actually meant to be the game pieces. The white dice are player dice and when something calls for the player die to be rolled you literally roll your character. When blue item dice are claimed you roll them to see what item you get. When enemies is encountered the enemy die is rolled and the rolled number represents the enemy that must be fought based on the scenario, vinny vines for example.

So what does all the stuff on the monster card mean?

Lets talk about the three circles on the right. Once you know what enemy card to use, you roll the enemy die again and the number that comes up shows you which tab of the character sheet you should place the enemy die on. Enemies can either move or attack. Enemies can only attack if they're on a tab which corresponds to a color they can attack from (indicated by a skull). If they're not on a color they can attack from, they can move to an adjacent tab.

I don't know what the die underneath the circles means. I'm sure it will come to me someday in a dream.

On the bottom row, starting on the left:

The crosshair is what the enemy must roll to deal damage when it attacks.

The slashes are how many attacks the enemy makes when it attacks.

The explosion is how much damage it deals on a hit.

Heart is how much damage it takes to kill it.

That looks fun, right?! Lemme tell you, if I just finished every project I get to the prototyping stage on I'd have a whole catalog to show for it lol. This is yet another game you'll probably see me post about at some point or another, AND ITS NOT EVEN THE ONLY BOARD GAME I'M WORKING ON. I feel like I need guard rails when I'm working on a project, you know? Someone to grab me by the shoulders and turn my back around so I'm walking on the path again instead of wandering off to check out a cool thing I saw in the bushes.

daddy katsuki

Katsuki is naturally a workaholic. In his day offs, he still insists to be in-call and responds immediately to any reports near around his neighborhood. His partner’s not particularly fond about his habit, he sometimes forget they do have two daughters and he leaves without letting them know. That caused a minor emergency family meeting. Katsuki apologized by making them a very rare, special dinner. His daughters were really impressed of his cooking skills, his partner usually cooks for them so Katsuki didn’t really have enough chances to showcase his remarkable talents expect for being the current number two hero. And a good plumber. Not very good, he exploded the toilet two times. His eldest was not really happy as her room was next to the restroom.

For now that they’re expected to be staying at home in this time of pandemic, crime rates are unsurprisingly still present, but the police are advancing their security hundred more times and some pro heroes are taking shifts by pair to patrol each night around the city. Katsuki only has one shift every Tuesday from four in the afternoon until ten. He’s getting the hang of it, he’s spending lots of time with his family and learning more about them each day. There was one time, he was praised by his daughters (who are already grown up, how the fuck did that happen) that he’s improving and that they plenty appreciate his effort. Katsuki cannot stop smiling every time it crosses his mind.

Deku and Shouto often visits and his daughters love them so much. They always cling on to them and Katsuki threatened to kick Todoroki off the building if he give money to his daughters without him knowing ever again. Todoroki swiftly announced they’ll be having a mini party at his place for Christmas and Katsuki bellowed at him, saying that he’d rather stay at home than have his family possibly catch the virus from attending his party. His daughters didn’t really liked the tone of his voice.

That’s why now, Katsuki’s all bored after finishing God-knows how many episodes of Kitchen Nightmares in YouTube for the past week. He decided to practice the dishes he’ll make for Christmas because he’ll prove to Todoroki how much he doesn’t want to attend his mini Christmas party and get COVID-19 and also he wants him to be away from his daughters because they’re his.

Call Katsuki possessive, because he is.

It’s late afternoon, Katsuki is preparing the ingredients he ordered online the day before on the dining table. He put on a tank top he wore this morning and tied the strings of the orange apron behind his back. He silently cursed of how hideous it looks but it’s their only apron, he can worry for something else.

Katsuki puts his phone in a stand and places it in front of him. He scrolls in his notes and review the recipe again. He’s making Chocolate and Lime Mousse. Now, Katsuki never made this nor eaten this before, but he saw Gordon Ramsay made this with his daughter and thought he’ll give it a try since it looked pretty doable and his eldest daughter loves fruits and desserts.

Speaking of the devil, Katsuki heard quick and heavy footsteps down the stairs and of course he knows who it is.

“Satsuki!” Katsuki shouts, his voice echoes to the whole floor.

His eldest daughter, Satsuki (16), dressed in dolphin shorts and oversized shirt halts in her steps and turns around to the direction of the kitchen.

“Yeah, Dad?” She answers, slowly making her way to him. “Whatcha’ doin?”

Katsuki looks at her. “Practicing Christmas desserts, you wanna join me?”

“You were really serious about that.” Satsuki’s eyebrows furrowed. 

“Of course I am. I am a man of my words.” The girl snorted. “Will you help me or not?”

“Fine, I don’t have anything to do anyway. I was going to crash in the couch anyway.”

“Fantastic. Go get the white chocolate in the fridge then.” Katsuki said, eyes back on his phone and he occasionally scans the things in front of him to make sure he got everything right and present.

Soon Katsuki is heating up double cream in a pot and Satsuki is breaking the white chocolate in pieces just like her dad told her to. It’s comfortably quiet as they work on their own. Satsuki’s humming under her breathe and shoved the last piece in her mouth, squealing in delight. She gave the bowl of chocolate to her dad who thanked her under his breathe.

“What’s your favorite chocolate? White? Milk? Dark?” Katsuki asked Satsuki who’s leaning on the counter and watched the cream simmer.

“Uhm...” She hummed. “I love milk chocolate with nuts. Only with nuts.”

“But you’re allergic with nuts.”

“I honestly don’t mind.” Satsuki looked down at her arms where scattered marks of her allergies are standing out of her pale skin. Actually, she does. It’s just that everything with nuts are delicious. 

Cough.

“What’s yours then?” She asked.

Katsuki’s arm stopped, he looks up for a second then shrugs. “I like anything, but dark’s pretty good.”

Satsuki’s nose crinkled. “It’s bitter.”

“I drink expresso straight from the glass.” Katsuki snickered at her and he removes the pot from the heat and Satsuki watches him pour it in the bowl of chocolates. “Look at that.”

Satsuki switched places to have a better look. Her mouth slowly opens in awe as she watched the white chocolate melt with the piping hot cream. Katsuki glances at her and he smirks, putting the pot away in the sink. He caught Satsuki dipping her finger in the bowl and licks the chocolate happily. 

“Oi! No fingers!” Katsuki snarls, making his daughter laugh. “Don’t put that finger again or else, Satsuki.”

“Gods, it was just a bit. You’re overreacting.” Satsuki snorts at him and Katsuki gives her a daring look, before attacking her soft spots on her sides and Satsuki trips down on the floor squealing her lungs out.

Five minutes after that, Katsuki brings out a tray of eggs from the fridge.

“Now, you have to separate the white from the yolk in the eggs.” Katsuki said and he proceeds to crack one egg, sliding the yolk to the other piece and letting the white part slide down to a ceramic bowl. Satsuki does the same, and they repeated that part until they separated six yolks from the egg whites.

Katsuki fishes out a whisk and handed it to Satsuki. The girl eyed him suspiciously.

“Obviously you need to whisk it.” Katsuki said in a ‘duh’ tone and rolled his eyes.

Satsuki hesitatingly takes the whisk and shoves it in the bowl. “You’re just making me do everything here.”

“I cracked some eggs and made the mousse, excuse me.” Katsuki crossed his arms on his chest and huffed. Satsuki shakes her head. “We’re going to take turns. I’ll go after you. Thirty seconds only.”

Satsuki grunted in acknowledgement and she continues to whisk the egg whites quickly to let it foam, and she has been at it for fifteen seconds now. Satsuki momentarily pauses, rests her already sore arm and regains her breathe.

“What the hell.” She cursed under her breathe and heard Katsuki snicker behind her.

“Ten seconds left.”

Satsuki increases the speed and squealed when the bowl almost slipped out of her grip.

“You can stop, I’ll take it here.”

Satsuki sighed and thanked him then Katsuki flashed a blinding grin at her while holding an electric whisk proudly in the air.

“What the heck?! ” Satsuki screeches, Katsuki’s grin only grow wider as he plugs it in the socket and laughed out loud. “That’s cheating! How could you?!”

“How could I? I don’t know what you’re saying, darling.” Katsuki said in a teasing tone. He turned the electric whisk on, it made a loud sound and Satsuki screamed at him.

“I’m out of here, dad.” Satsuki raised her hands in dismissal, walking out of the kitchen. “It’s over.”

“Satsuki!” Katsuki calls out, he bends backward slightly and bursts out laughing again. “Get your ass back in here!”

Of course, Satsuki walks back in. Complaining.

“You can’t do that to me!” She cries. “Thirty seconds?! This fucking weakling of a whisk? And you’re using that machine?!”

“Because -”

“I was staring to feel competitive!” Satsuki cuts him off and Katsuki pressed his lips together to stifle his laugh. “My arm is limp!”

“Because it’s the best way to whip egg whites!”

“Then why didn’t you give me that in the first place?!” Satsuki falls on the floor and pouts at him. The sight made Katsuki coo and he pouts at her back playfully but ends up laughing again. Satsuki slaps his calve and Katsuki released a girly screech.

“Cheater!”

“Oi, shut up!” Katsuki’s head whips around the room. “Someone might take that the wrong way!”

“You’re a dirty player, dad.”

“Stop with that now, Satsuki. Come pour the sugar carefully in the bowl now.”

Eventually, Satsuki stands up and do what he said. Though there’s a disappointed frown on her face and Katsuki can’t help but to chuckle fondly at her. He stops the machine and placed them on the side. 

He leans over and put a hand behind Satsuki’s head, pressing a kiss on her temple and Satsuki’s frown deepens. Alright, he’s starting to feel bad now.

Katsuki sighs and crouches to her height, but the girl avoided eye contact.

“Come on now, you’re that really upset, are you?” Katsuki said softly.

Satsuki doesn’t answer.

“I’m sorry, baby. Daddy’s sorry. Can you help daddy now? We’re almost done though. I promise I’ll give you more chocolates after this.” Katsuki pulls her in his chest and wraps his arms around her shoulder, swaying their bodies sideways. He feels her grunt on his chest and Katsuki cracked a smile.

He pulls away, crouching down again but this time Satsuki meets his eyes. Her eyes, just like his -- bright, shining rubies but hers are glassy and moist. Katsuki’s heart breaks and he pouts playfully at her while Satsuki’s lower lip trembles.

“You can forget about it and help me instead. Daddy’s gonna be nicer now.”

“Don’t call yourself that, it’s weird.” Satsuki sniffles but she waits for Katsuki to finish folding the foamed egg whites.

Katsuki smiles to himself. What a time to be fucking alive, indeed. (Ironically, the world’s in chaos.) He could never ask for anything else. He’s happy but this is a different kind of happy, you know? This is more than achieving the number one spot - this is more than just being the fucking number one hero, it is something phenomenal he’s never felt before and it’s getting better every day he realizes more of the life he has now.

Task 02 - The Third Degree

The interview was a good idea. Jesse knew that with at least some certainty. It was a way to at least know who they needed to keep an eye on, to try and weed out anyone with bad intentions before they even stepped foot into the town. It wasn’t flawless by any means, but maybe it would do them better in the future than just welcoming anyone off the streets...They didn’t need another Kit in their midst, after all. 

But that didn’t mean he wasn’t dreading it. It was, in essence, a job interview. And sure, he was already slotted in to take on the role in the newly formed council and had been part of making this whole interview a reality, but that didn’t make it feel any less like a means of proving his worth to be here. That he was here for a purpose and here to stay - hopefully, anyway. 

He cleared his throat as he sat down across from the interviewer and recorder, faces and names blurring just a bit as he instead focused on the questions being asked. 

Where do you come from?

“Originally from Chicago,” he answered simply, shoulders lifting in a bit of a shrug. There wasn’t that much more to it.

How would you describe yourself as a person?

“Uh-” he hesitates a minute, considering the question. How would he describe himself as a person? He’d never had to really think about it before. “I don’t know, really. I guess loyal, driven, a leader. At least, I aspire to be, anyway.” He hated talking about himself. It was easier to concern himself with others and not deal with himself. 

How many walkers have you killed?

It’s an interesting question, truly. The number of walkers a person killed spoke to their experience out there in the apocalypse, how they were able to handle themselves in this hellish world. It also took a special kind of person to keep track of that. 

In the beginning Jesse could remember avoiding it at all costs. They didn’t know anything about this ‘virus’ or these people - were they still people? Were they alive? Was it possible to get them back? But when it was life or death, Jesse chose life and chose his family, time and time again. 

“I don’t know, honestly. Avoided it for a while, but when it was necessary it was necessarily.”

How many people have you killed? Why did you kill them?

He knows that this question is meant to be since the outbreak, he knows even to anticipate it. Yet he can’t help thinking back to the war, to those he had killed without all that much thought. Sure, another example of kill or be killed, another example of doing what needed to be done. And yet...

But even without considering before the answer doesn’t really come easily. Because he remembers all the blood on his hands, what he’s had to do to survive. When months had gone by and walkers became common creatures they all knew had to die and weren’t going to be coming back - well, the lines blurred between the living and the dead. He didn’t like to admit it, wanted to pretend that sentiment wasn’t true...but in that period before he’d stumbled upon Fairvale and had a little sense and hope knocked back into him --

“Jesse?” 

His name pulls him back to reality a little and he looks up at the interviewer, clearing his throat. “Uhm, 8 people. I think. Wait - 7, I guess...” He folds his hands together tightly, certain that it wasn’t the answer they were expecting or looking for. It’s written firmly in their expressions even as they try to compose themselves. A killer as part of their council? Had they just opened themselves up to another Kit? 

He tries to tell himself it had to be done, every death at his hands were for a reason. First because of a bite that had been hidden away, one that transformed the former companion into one of those things. There hadn’t been any consideration in that one, even if they had become something of a friend. They didn’t really count, either - technically they were no longer a person when Jesse pulled them off the boy and slid a blade into their temple. It was the kid that was truly his first, one that had reminded him so much of Liam, that he’d come to want to protect just as much as his own baby brother.

Bitten on the forearm, terrified of what was going to happen to him, the group stood around him with solemn expressions. Perhaps because they all knew what needed to be done but none of them was willing to step forward and do it. In part also because the boy’s older brother had fallen to his knees beside the younger, clinging to him for dear life with seemingly no intention of letting anyone else get close. 

“We - You have to help him.” He still remembers the look of desperation in Liam’s eyes as he pleads for Jesse to save him, to keep their friend from dying at the hands of this - disease. But Jesse’s no doctor. All he knows is a bite means death and becoming one of those monsters. But if the disease can’t spread then maybe there’s a chance? The idea of removing the infected limb turns even his stomach, brings back flashes of memories that he’d buried down deep - so similar the situation and yet so incredibly different. 

But living with one arm less than before was better than dying.

“Hold him still -” 

In the end, it didn’t even matter. While it didn’t seem that the disease would take him, it was the blood loss and infection that did. And that blood was now on his hands, seeping into his skin, burned into his memory. 

But what came next was worse, a grief stricken older brother to the boy that lay dead on the operating table (though realistically it was nothing more than an old bar top, with supplies that never should’ve been considered for the task at hand). When they’d pulled Liam towards him with a hand around his chin, ready to snap his neck at any moment. You took everything from me, now I’ll do the same to you. 

If the roles were reversed, Jesse wasn’t sure how he would’ve reacted. But somehow a life for a life didn’t make sense. He tried to plead with him, talk him down...but eventually there wasn’t any choice left. If he wanted to keep Liam alive (and he’d rather die than let anything happen to him) then pulling the trigger and putting a bullet in the brain of someone he’d begin to consider a friend was all he could do...

That story was still fresh in his mind, one that replayed in a loop with different (sometimes better, usually far worse) outcomes if he closed his eyes for too long. But he’d be lying if he said it hadn’t gotten easier after that. To say he’d killed a person, a human, living person - but he’d done it because it meant surviving. Keeping himself or his family alive. 

Are you searching for anybody?

“Yes.” He may have stopped in Fairvale to hang his hat and to have somewhere to call ‘home’, at least to some extent, but he wasn’t going to give up on his family. He’d just needed to refuel, recuperate, make a plan...

“My parents, my little brother, Liam. We got separated when a horde of ‘em came through. I told them to run while I drew the walkers away...” There had to have been a better solution -  he thought that over and over since that day. They should’ve stuck together. But in the heat of the moment it seemed like the best option, and he’d assumed they’d circle back and find each other again without issue. They’d done it again and again. Told him to hide, told him to stay there - and he’d always managed to find him again. 

But not this time. By the time he’d circled back to where he’d last seen them there was no sign of them. And he searched. And he tried not to think of what it meant that he couldn’t find them, that they weren’t here, that this wasn’t as easy as it had been before.

He stumbled upon other groups of survivors, pockets of people who had their own agendas and ended up on the wrong side of his gun in the desperate search for his family. But Fairvale had been the first place that actually sparked a little bit of hope in him. Maybe they’d found it already - no, that hadn’t been the case - but maybe they would find it, too. Just as he had.

Why are you here?

It’s a question he’d asked himself a few times since he’d arrived just a few weeks prior. Why are you here? Why wasn’t he still out there looking - not that he wasn’t taking every opportunity to continue the search. “Because I’m no good to them dead. Because I can do something here. Because chasing a moving target is impossible.” He can only hope that that’s been the problem, that with both of them constantly on the move the odds of them finding each other decreased with every passing day. If he stayed in one place - or at least had a place to go back to - then maybe that increased their odds of finding each other again.

Would you consider yourself a team player?

“Sure, yeah. I’ve always operated best on a team, I think.” 

Are you the type of person who will try to make the best out of a bad situation?

The best out of a bad situation. Like trying to survive when the world was burning around them? “I’m not sure any of us would be here if we didn’t at least have some sense of that.”

What skills do you have that will benefit the community and your fellow survivors?

“I was in the marines, a few years back. I’ve been told I’m a good leader. I try to keep the best interest of the people around me at heart. And I’m not a bad shot.” 

Can you handle yourself in a crisis?

The answer, again, felt pretty obvious. “I think I’ve proven that already, but given we’re all still standing here i think for the most part the answer to that has to be yes for all of us.” They were living in a crisis - for over six months now. If they couldn’t handle themselves in a crisis then they were either extremely lucky to still be alive or already dead.

What are you willing to do to protect the people and things you care about?

“I -” He’d already killed to protect Liam. He’d more quickly step into the line of fire than let anything happen to those he cared about, if he knew it would keep them safe. “Anything.”

Do you have any pre-existing medical conditions our medical staff should be informed about?

This was another question he wasn’t looking forward to. His disability was often hidden from others, behind a pant leg he looked no different unless you knew to pay attention to the slight hitch in his gait. For the most part it didn’t hinder his abilities - running wasn’t as easy as it had once been and he couldn’t be on his feet for lengthy periods of time without discomfort, but he imagined almost everyone suffered those ailments if only in a very distinctly different way. 

He just didn’t want people looking at him like he was broken. At least not in that way. He’d seen the pitying gazes all through his recovery. This, as much as he hated to say it, could be a fresh start. 

But he also wasn’t stupid. He couldn’t do all of this own his own. Sometimes, he’d need a little extra help.

Captain Allen sucked in a harsh breath of steam-filled air and let it out through his nose. It didn’t help calm his pounding heart. Not much would or did after these sorts of operations. The adrenaline was too potent, the excitement too real.

He threw himself down onto the locker room bench and stared at his hand in front of his face. His fingers trembled, shook. He made a fist and grinned a little to himself, wishing he had an outlet. A punching bag to beat, a race to run, hell, he’d even settle on a tree to climb. Allen leaned back against the row of lockers behind him, hissing as the cold metal stung his hot, damp skin. The shower hadn’t helped him unwind. He wasn’t sure why he’d expected it to. There was still so much left to do tonight. He needed to get dressed, do his report, then head home.

But fuck. That op had been something. Drug heist gone wrong, gunfire all over the place and shooting over his head as he’d charged inside. Hell, he’d felt the air come off a bullet as it whizzed past his cheek. It was… Fuck, it was the kind of high that couldn’t be found any other way. Risking your life was worse than any drug, and far more potent besides. He’d come out of it without a scratch, but the thrill still sang in his veins.

A door to the locker room squeaked as it was opened. Allen blinked, sitting up in an instant. He grabbed the towel he’d wrapped around his neck and quickly covered his lap with it. “Thought you guys already cleared out,” he called, willing himself to relax a little. Too much excitement had awoken more than just his heart, and he sure as shit didn’t need any of his squad seeing him sporting wood in a place like this even if it was the kind of reaction all of them fell victim to every other mission or so.

To his surprise, it wasn’t one of his men that turned the corner of the lockers. Or, well… Technically it was. Allen still wasn’t entirely sure how to classify the RK900 model the unit had been gifted by Cyberlife following the successful dismantling of the android revolution a few months ago. The thing accompanied the SWAT unit on the majority of their assignments now, providing support and going in first when bullets were flying and negotiations on the verge of breaking down. It was good at following orders, as much of a team player as any of them could profess to be.

But... that didn’t explain what it thought it was doing in here.

“Didn’t I tell you to head back to your charging dock?” Allen muttered, relaxing a bit since it was only an android. His dick was tenting his towel and he didn’t bother trying to hide it, instead leaning back against the locker to will it away. His erection and the android both.

The android stared at him with cool blue eyes. Allen glanced at it, taking in its perfect face, its pristine uniform. It’d gone ahead and removed the majority of its tactical gear as was protocol, but it still wore the bulletproof black fatigues and empty thigh holster packs that made up the SWAT dress. It hovered about a yard away, its boots making loud, wet sounds against the damp tile floor. Despite charging in first for the night’s op, it’d come away without even so much as a scuff on those shiny black boots.

“Captain Allen,” it said in a low, flat voice. “I was about to return to my charging dock but noticed you hadn’t exited the building. Is there something inhibiting you from leaving?”

Allen blinked. He rolled his head on his shoulder and looked the android over, but he knew well enough the thing couldn’t lie. Not after that deviancy virus had been eliminated, at least. “I never asked you to check in on me,” he said, wrinkling his nose. He bit at his lip and shifted, his skin overly sensitive in the wake of his arousal. “You do this for every guy in the team?”

“Yes.”

Allen snorted. “You answered that pretty fast,” he observed, noting where the android was looking. A frown curled his lips. He’d heard more than a few times what some of the guys got up to when they had completed an op that ended a little too well. The kinds of things they’d do with RK900 here in the locker room or in one of the lock-up areas that didn’t have a camera. Allen had never joined them. He’d figured it was something they did for morale, something that kept them working well as a team. Not really the kind of thing a superior should join in on. Or condone, he added silently.

“You expecting something from me?” he said aloud instead, wondering why his heart chose now to pound a little faster.

RK900 blinked slowly and came a little closer, falling to his knees without a word. Allen colored a little, new heat rising to his cheeks, but he didn’t let himself move or react besides that. The android stared at his covered, tented dick, the LED on his temple spiraling yellow for a handful of seconds.

“Allow me to assist you, Captain,” RK900 finally said, wetting his lips with his tongue. “You can’t be comfortable like that.”

Allen furrowed his brow and spread his legs a little beneath the towel. Unconsciously, he told himself. Because he wasn’t the type to encourage the passing around of their top-of-the-line model like a communal sex doll. “You know I’m not like the other guys, right? You don’t have to do this kind of thing for me,” he said, hating how his voice had lowered a few octaves in the time it took RK900 to come closer. “Or do you like it when they use you like that?”

RK900 said nothing to that, probably because it was too busy tugging away the towel to bare Allen’s flushed dick to the world. The android assessed it for a moment, LED cycling yellow in slow, even flickers, and then went blue just as it leaned down to take him in its mouth. Allen grunted and laced his fingers through soft dark hair. “You really don’t waste time, do you?”

Wrong thing to say. RK900 promptly dropped his cock and pulled back, looking him in the eye carefully. “I apologize,” it said. “Would you prefer it if I teased?”

“If you… Jesus, what are they fucking teaching you?” Allen rolled his eyes and yanked RK900 back down by the hair. “Just fucking suck my dick if you’re going to do it. I don’t need the girlfriend treatment. Just get it done.”

The good thing about androids was that they obeyed these days. RK900 didn’t argue, didn’t fight him; it just opened up its mouth once more and took him down to the hilt, bobbing its head in rhythmic pumps to work him off cleanly, economically, and efficiently. Allen sighed and closed his eyes, melting against the wall. He kept a hand on its hair, but he didn’t do much to direct. He was a little ashamed to admit that the android managed to pull a sound from him. It wasn’t loud. FOUND MEMORY

The flash drive had seen better days. It was in the rain gutter of the street, scuffed and faded. At first glance it looked like a total loss.

But Charles had found another similarly distressed flash drive and it had worked perfectly. On that previous thumb drive he had deleted a basketball coaches resume files and gained about 20 megabytes of useful memory.

Charles looked at the scratched and pitted thumb drive. The usb connection looked good. Not mashed out of shape or corroded.

And it looked like it might have gigs instead of megs! It would be a nice freebie if it worked.

At home Charles plugged the drive into his computer and warily opened it to see the contents. There was a single MOV file. So it still worked and that was good.

The cautious thing to do would be delete the movie and format the drive. But then he'd never know what the movie file was.

The file onscreen showed a thumbnail of a clown. He ran his antivirus software on the MOV. The software said “No virus detected.”

So he double clicked the file and the computer’s default movie player ran the film. It was a medium resolution shot of a clown in close-up. Red rubber ball nose. Black line outlines for a large happy mouth. White makeup, of course. Bright red, long, wild hair.

The clown stared into the camera without changing expression. Charles deduced this was someone interested in the success or failure of the make up, checking himself on video.

Charles would not mind deleting this at all. The clown face begin to slowly turn, presenting first a profile, then the back of the wild red wig.

Charles thought, “Better than the mirror I guess.”

“But very boring.” he said aloud.

As he thought how boring it was, he passed into a cat nap state and a moment later jerked awake.

There on the screen was his face, removing the white make up with a Kleenex.
