Sebelum Lepas Landas

Prosedur keselamatan di saat pesawat mengalami kondisi gawat darurat adalah hal yang terus dilakukan awak pesawat mana pun. Baik diperagakan langsung maupun via video. Hal yang sama, tak ada yang berbeda dari jaman ke jaman. Mungkin membosankan, atau sudah hafal, sehingga ketimbang menyimak, banyak orang memilih tidur, memotret pesawat di luar jendela, mengirim pesan di detik-detik terakhir, main game. Dulu, itu semua saya lakukan juga. Apa pentingnya? Kalau terjadi sesuatu, masak sih nggak ingat harus melakukan apa saja? Pasang pelampung, kembungkan, pasang masker, ikuti lampu…. Gitu aja, kan? 

Tetapi itu berubah pada tahun 2012, ketika saya bergabung dengan Total EP Indonesie, perusahaan migas asal Prancis. Di sini, sejak hari pertama, saya belajar bahwa urusan keselamatan bukan hal kecil. Meleng sedikit, ngantuk sedetik, meleset semili: fatal akibatnya. Berkunjung ke lapangan, melihat pekerjaan yang dilakukan, saya belajar bahwa abai, lalai, tak peduli akan membawa bahaya buat diri sendiri dan orang banyak. 

Di kantor ini, kami harus mengikuti training keselamatan. Salah satunya berjudul HUET:  Helicopter Underwater Escape Training. Di sini kami belajar seperti apa kondisi gawat darurat di udara itu, apa yang harus dilakukan ketika helicopter jatuh ke air. Apa yang harus dilakukan ketika air mengepung, pintu mana yang harus dibetot, keluar ke mana. Kurang dari 15 detik sudah harus mumbul, kalau nggak SELESAI hidup kita. 

Pelatih terus mengingatkan, “Jangan panik. Tenang. Nanti semua akan terselesaikan dengan baik.” Siap! 

Saya masuk tiruan helicopter yang pelan-pelan digerek naik. Pada ketinggian tertentu, tanpa aba-aba, kami dihempaskan, masuk air dengan dahsyat. Seketika itu juga, semua yang diajarkan tadi HILANG! Melepaskan seatbelt mendadak jadi hal yang tak dikenal. Posisi jendela entah di mana. Dan ketika berhasil keluar jendela, ini permukaannya ada di mana siiiiih? Begitu kepala berhasil muncul dari air, secara teori, saya sudah mati. Kelamaan di dalam sana! Terpaksa ulang sekali lagi. Saya panik. Nggak tenang. Dan semua tidak terselesaikan dengan baik. Betapa berbedanya teori dan praktek itu, Saudara-saudara!

Di kali kedua, saat dihempaskan, saya tetap kaget, hanya jauh lebih tenang, sehingga seatbelt bisa dilepas, jendela tampak, dan berhasil molos keluar. Nggak jadi mati! Dapat kartu yang mengijinkan saya duduk di bangku deretan pintu emergency karena saya telah dinyatakan mampu mengatasi keadaan darurat. Horeee!

Tetapi kartu itu saya dapatkan setelah sempat dinyatakan “mati” di percobaan pertama, dan saat latihan, kan? Dalam kondisi sebenarnya, mana bisa diulang sampai lancar? Begitu gagal, ya mati beneran dong ah.

Kegagalan di percobaan pertama HUET –yang membuat saya dinyatakan “mati” karena telat keluar dari air—adalah titik saya memutuskan untuk tidak pernah lagi  mengabaikan penjelasan awak pesawat menjelang lepas landas. Saya hanya perlu beberapa menit saja untuk menyimak, mengingat kembali hal-hal penting (yang pernah saya dengar berkali-kali) itu sekali lagi. Beberapa menit itu bisa jadi akan membuat saya lebih tenang ketika kondisi gawat darurat benar-benar melanda. Nggak lupa-lupa amat lah. Kan baru dijelasin tadi. Ya, kan? 

Saya tidak tahu dengan yang lain, tetapi buat saya, beberapa menit sebelum berangkat itu penting. Saya perlukan.
