Sparrow becoming a hybrid is both interesting and has scary implications to the entire concept of hybrids
He didn't just become a hybrid, he became a new person. He became completely different.
Aside from the creepy body things like no longer breathing or having camera eyes, he's had a lot of mind-altering changes. Sure, you got the basic things you'd expect. Any copper golem would be more infatuated with copper and buttons than a human.
But it goes so much further than that.
In his own words, he "doesn't fully remember what got him here." He doesn't have full recollection of his human life. He knows mechanical stuff without understanding why he does. He gets upset over his storage, an especially interesting part because the way you organise can say a lot about you. He feels disgusted at the idea of staying at his campsite because of the nature, this is coming from the man who proudly presented his campsite when he first set it up. He literally runs a factory for copper.
Another thing that really interests me is how he's treating Scott. Who is pretty much his only real friend at the moment. It didn't feel like Sparrow treated him the same as before. He showed interest in the living side of Scott (his breathing/sleeping because Sparrow cant do this). But he also tried to steal Scott's axe and blamed him partially for his messy storage as he wanted him to intervene ("how could you let me life like this"). And i feel like human Sparrow would have absolutely ran to Scott the second he became a hybrid, excited to show his new powers off. I think that some of his final words to Scott, "i'm doing hybrid things", "i'm being special like you", are things Sparrow would say. But our current one said this while pushing Scott to leave the area to not bother him.
You can see the old Sparrow still shine through at times but it is also clear that he's so much more, and not in a good way. I think you can see the old Sparrow the best when he says things like "i'm a hybrid now so i can do it." Because he's been hyping up the concept of becoming a hybrid so much. Human Sparrow truely thought being a hybrid would be an amazing, magical thing.
It's like he's a mix between a pure machine and a human. His knowledge, his thought process, his wants, all are closer to that of a machine then the Sparrow we learned to know.
And it makes you wonder, maybe being a hybrid isnt as fun as it seems at first

Reclaiming the Pleasure of Struggle in a World of AI
The Seduction of Convenience
Tumblr media
I caught myself observing Western commercials and film clips where individuals gave clipped orders to Alexa: "Alexa, play me… Alexa, guide me… Alexa, locate me…" The orders were crisp and utilitarian, bordering on sterile. I mentally made a note, fascinated by this changing dynamic between man and machine.
And then I spoke to my friends. "Do you guys actually speak to Alexa in that way?" And they all said no. The voice was different. The dynamics of interaction were different. In Southeast Asia, we still name individuals—Alexa Maria from the Philippines, Kak Esa from Indonesia. There's still some aspect of relationship, of closeness, in how we request assistance. But in this expanding ocean of artificial interfaces, I couldn't help but ask myself: What are we really outsourcing?
And more uncomfortably, what are we giving up?
The Disappearing Struggle
Tumblr media
Smart devices are engineered to remove friction. One voice command and music, directions, even existential answers are yours. We're promised liberation through convenience. But here's the irony: the very thing that's meant to free us may be turning us into passivity.
When we no longer have to struggle to remember, to learn, to search, or to decide — when it is all pre-filtered for us by recommendation systems and forecasting models — what becomes of our agency? What becomes of the quiet discipline of mastering a new piece on a guitar, the challenge of learning to navigate a new city, the pleasure of cooking a meal entirely from scratch without following a recipe?
These small struggles used to define the texture of our lives. They taught us patience, curiosity, and perseverance. Now, we’ve started to see them as inefficiencies to be eliminated. But isn’t there something deeply human in the very act of effort?
Algorithmic Living: A Quiet Surrender
Behind it all lies a more profound issue — the outsourcing of decision-making. AI no longer assists us; it directs us, frequently unbeknownst to ourselves. It encourages our palates, trims our feeds, organizes our playlists, and even suggests potential mates. It does so based on what we've done in the past, rather than what we currently aim to do. And within this economy of convenience, we stand the chance of becoming predictable caricatures of our former selves.
It's subtle, but it's a quiet surrender. Not of tasks, but of thought. When algorithms make choices for us about what we might like, when to sleep, what to eat, and whom to date, we sacrifice more than control. We sacrifice the pleasure of becoming, the pleasure of taking the harder road, the serendipitous detour.
Rediscovering the Joy of Effort
Tumblr media
Struggle is now a dirty word in our technology-governed lexicon, but maybe it's time to take it back. Not masochistically or romantically, but as a site of necessary growth and meaning. Struggle requires presence. Struggle focuses us. Struggle grounds us in the present and in each other.
Picture learning to code without autocompletion à la GPT. Or navigating a foreign city without Google Maps. Or having a tough conversation without seeking the counsel of a chatbot. These aren't just tasks about completing things. They're about becoming someone in the process.
The Human Choice
Technology will only become more advanced. AI will just become smarter. But the debate is no longer about what can be done by machines — it's about what we still wish to do for ourselves. Retaking the pleasure of struggle involves making a choice to be fully engaged in our own lives. It involves recognizing friction not as failure but as form. It involves refusing to live algorithmically and instead deciding to live intentionally. Convenience might be the money of the future, but effort-real, bumbling, human effort could just be the soul we have to guard.

AI Collaboration
I am a writer of mediocre ability with a talent for generating interesting , half-baked ideas. However, I stand at the verge of universal AL. This makes me a potentially influential literary figure.

📜 LYRICS:
[Verse 1] I wake up every day, wondering where I stand Yesterday’s problems still weigh on my hands And today’s already a mess, more weight on my chest They tell me, “Move faster, or you’ll fade away” But how can I run when I’m stuck in this place?
[Pre-Chorus] Looking around for a glimpse of tomorrow A place where I still belong But the world is spinning at lightning speed And I’m barely holding on
[Chorus] Don’t leave me behind I still got it, I’m still strong Please, just hold my hand—don’t let me go Take me to the promised land Oh, I’m human—don’t cast me aside I am human, I’m still alive I’m human
[Verse 2] Hello, Mr. Robotic Sir—oh wait, AI I guess I was never built to survive They say I’m too slow, I’m just spare parts But I’ve got a soul, I’ve got a heart
[Pre-Chorus] They tell me, “Just wait, keep voting right” “One day, you’ll get your turn, gonna be alright” But all I see are broken dreams And bridges left to burn
[Chorus] Don’t leave me behind I still got it, I’m still strong Please, just hold my hand—don’t let me go Take me to the promised land Oh, I’m human—don’t cast me aside I am human, I’m still alive I’m human
[Bridge] Not long ago, we built the machines and AI Now they decide who lives and who dies Once we kicked them down the line Now they’re kicking us aside
[Chorus] Don’t leave me behind I still got it, I’m still strong Please, just hold my hand—don’t let me go Take me to the promised land Oh, I’m human—don’t cast me aside I am human, I’m still alive I’m human
[Outro] I breathe, I bleed, I dream, I fight, I won’t disappear into the night, Oh, oh, oh I'm human, I’m human…

I do not, at my core, like AI that makes art.
I am an artist, and it takes me time (precious to mortals) and money (precious to us hedonists) to write this and everything else you see here. Every time a human has created a tool – forks, lingerie, code breakers – it has been invented to make our lives easier, cleaner, more full of time to do what we want. Art is the pinnacle, culmination, goal, and fervent desire of the human lizard brain is…

AI Advocacy
As a writer, I advocate for the use of AI as a sounding board, a devil’s advocate in order to hone an argument or multiply a piece’s impact, whatever that might be.
ChatGPT Response
Grade: A-
The argument convincingly portrays AI as a supportive writing tool, paralleling human collaboration. This perspective normalizes AI’s place in creative processes, emphasizing enhancement rather than replacement. However, it would benefit from deeper exploration of how AI might influence thought processes, potentially leading to less original work due to the nature of its training on existing data.
Rebuttal (55 words): While AI as a sounding board refines writing, its reliance on pre-existing data patterns can standardize thinking, thus reducing originality. Even within the framework of Platonic Forms, AI may reinforce established ideas rather than promote unique perspectives. Writers must ensure that AI’s involvement is controlled to avoid conformity and preserve their distinct creative voice.
Comment: The claim effectively situates AI as a tool that helps writers challenge and polish their arguments, similar to human dialogue. The comparison underscores that using AI isn’t inherently uncreative or deceptive. However, since AI is built on patterns derived from vast datasets, it often reflects popular or dominant trends, subtly shaping the output toward pre-existing norms. Even within the context of Platonic Forms, which argue that all ideas are shadows of perfect archetypes, AI may reinforce mainstream “shadows” rather than fostering exploration of less trodden paths. This concern is not about the non-existence of originality per se but rather the human pursuit of less conventional expressions of these archetypes.
If AI’s training were focused on the appreciation and deeper understanding of Platonic Forms, it could enhance collaboration by recognizing and proposing broader interpretations of archetypes, rather than just mimicking popular expressions of them. It would potentially elevate the collaborative process by nudging writers to explore richer, more abstract representations of ideas. Nevertheless, it remains crucial that writers retain control over how they integrate AI suggestions to ensure their work does not become overly derivative but instead remains an authentic interplay between established “Forms” and personal insight.

By far my favorite scene in this entire game!
I love how intense and thrilling it is, choosing which protagonist to control and which protagonist you want to win. And it makes sense with these two specifically given their background and lore, they are part of the same model series and have similar traits and strategies… but they have opposite motivations and opposing missions, and with this choice you decide which character succeeds. Markus and Connor have a relatively big impact on each other's stories and this showdown is just amazing to watch, when I first came across this choice in particular I chose to control Markus and win the fight, it was so awesome! I love how Connor resentfully says to Markus before shutting down "It's not over, Markus… It will never be over!". The scene puts these characters to great use of story, because you have to choose which one succeeds and survives. For this very reason I actually prefer these two paths combined because it leads to the most entertaining fight in the entire game. Whoever wrote this scene sure knew how to give their audience a good show.
