- Just because it is real that doesn't mean that Sebastian and Ciel would believe in it.

-Once he finds out that his s/o can use magic he couldn't believe it.

- And depending on what his s/o can do will make him decide how interested in his s/o.

-If they can do any magic that will benefit the young lord and or protect the manor then he will immediately like them.

Hey! Do you have any advice for people who want to start a writing/fanfiction blog like yours?

yes i do!! this actually ended up being pretty long, but hopefully this helps! 🥛

figure out your writing style before you actually start

as much as you can make small changes along the way, the way you start will be the way people expect you to continue

don't start off your first posts super long with a ton of characters. you might find out later that longer requests are overwhelming or tedious, or that it's hard to go in detail with a lot of characters and you run out of ideas. start off with one or two characters per post/request, and as you go along you can expand that number if you feel up to it!

it's a good idea to make mental notes as you write your posts! notice if you use a certain word/phrase a lot that you could remove, what stage in writing a scenario you have the most trouble with, if there's a certain type of music that sparks your creativity, etc!

figure out your strengths and weaknesses before you have a lot of followers because then when you are getting a lot of requests it'll be easier since you know your limits ^^

never leave an idea in your head

that idea is the baseline of a story, and if you don't write that story, no one will

creativity and uniqueness go a long way in writing. any thought you have, immediately write it down. even if you don't post it or ever speak about it again, that's one more thing that you fleshed out about your au. it makes the character more real and alive to you, which in turn makes your reading come alive.

people like seeing something different from the norm. they don't want to see the same x reader posts or 'character with an s/o'. they can't something different that makes them laugh, cry, or spark creativity for themselves.

so yea, write about which characters clean their belly buttons or not, which characters snort when they laugh, who prefers their apples peeled or not. literally anything can be made into writing, which is why you should never leave an idea in your head.

maybe you're talking to friends and something they say or a meme they send sparks your imagination. don't just let that moment pass- grab it and squeeze every drop of creativity out of it. anything you have about your characters in your head makes it easier to visualize what they would do and how they would act.

figure out a schedule and routine, even if you hate it

writers block and finding motivation is probably the hardest thing to work through, but it's so rewarding when you do

ah, yes. schedules, routines, and finding motivation, some of nature's greatest acts against humanity. i'm a massive procrastinator as well as being quite lazy, and i've had quite a few times where i just randomly didn't post for a while simply because i didn't want to.

one tip i reccomend is that when you're really motivated, write as much as you can, but don't post all of it. what i suggest is always leaving some sort of post in drafts- whether it be a request, scenario, incorrect quote, or even just a random headcanon.

then, when you're unmotivated but still want to post, you can post that without doing anything. this also is a good idea if you have a busy schedule!

getting the motivation is hard sometimes, but try to take note about what sparks your creativity. maybe make a playlist that reminds you of the characters you write about, or read other writing that triggers your imagination.

if you like routines and schedules, then that's really good! don't stop, it'll be a massive help when running a request-based blog!

maybe it's just me, but i hate leaving requests for more than a few weeks and start panicking as soon as i go a few days without answering any. if you're the same, that's a good motivation lol. try to find stuff like that! if you find something that motivates you, never ignore it.

get in touch with your audience

it's best not to look at them as just 'followers', they're real people and they support you!

talk to your followers! you'll meet so many cool people when you do! (please stay safe though obviously, the block button is always there if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe)

be down to earth and grateful for every like, reblog, comment, or follow that you get in your notifications. after all, without them, you wouldn't be writing!

try to talk to your followers and show them that you're thankful for each one! you don't have to tell them everything that's going on in your life, but try to be open and honest!

just be yourself, there's nobody better! if your followers can see you as a human being who cares rather than just a random person on the internet, they'll feel so much more comfortable with you. that in turn makes them want to read your content because they feel like you're a real person who they can laugh and cry with ^^

Yeah, this may be my first time writing for fnf characters, and you should rq more bc I'm so hot n sexy /j. But uh, yeah! I thought this would be fun lol!!

Ruv:

Ruv at first really doesn't... understand it?

It's not like he isn't supportive!! No no, he loves what you do it's just...

He feels like this isn't really helping YOU in the long term.

He also wants to make sure you're safe, and having your identity (and his) out there, freaks him out a bit...

Especially with the more... eccentric... fans...

But if you invite him to play with you off-stream, he can get it pretty quickly. Esp if you take him mining!! He will spend forEVER in the mines just to find the block you're looking for.

“Ugh, I wish I had diamonds >:/” *like an hour later* “RUV HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO GET 30 DIAMONDS?????”

He's very good at gathering material, and killing mobs. And did I mention he loves pvp?

You give him Hypixel and Skywars and trust me he'll be distracted for HOURS. My mans just wants his wins.

He likes the game, but probably wouldn’t spend hours on it just to grind kinda thing. Would hop on if you asked him nicely.

Streaming on the other hand, he's doesn't really like the fact you stream.

If you're a faceless streamer, he gets a little more relaxed about it. He'll join you on a very rare occasion for quote, “emotional support”

And he likes watching you play, it's somehow soothing???

But if you aren't a faceless streamer, he is NEVER going to come near the room you stream is EVER. You could literally drag him there (if you manage) and he still will never enter that room.

He's literally a criminal???? Why would he want his identity leaked????? That only ends badly.

But he does still watch on a (totally secret) twitch account. He'll watch the entire thing to make sure nothing A. goes wrong or B. just to collect more channel points.

But as soon as stream is over he attempts to at least offer to hangout or something.

If you vlog at all, he'll come with and help...

But he just ends up as the camera man. Everything you do in said vlog, he'll get for your video and that's it.

But, all in all, he isn't too bad about it. Just be careful with the cameras. Alright?

AGOTI:

The most supportive out of EVERYONE. Manz LOVES when you do streams.

If you invited him to stream with you, no matter the time, it's fuck all to whatever else may happen that day or if he's gotten enough sleep. It's gamer time boys.

You may have to explain a couple jokes to him during stream, but he can get it with a bit of time.

And yes, he LOVES playing Minecraft with you!! Playing one of his favorite games with his favorite person??? Fuck yeah!!

He's definitely the guy that just spends all his time in the nether, like.

You'd literally have to drag him out.

But he does it for the grind baby!! Netherite 4 lifeeee 😎😎😎!!!

If you're someone who has a webcam (and uses it for stream) than he may be a little less affectionate, but only if you tell him not to.

AGOTI 100% doesn't give a fuck otherwise, he's going to love on you for all of stream and he BETTER see that shit trending /hj.

But for real, he loves just being near you when you're streaming, it's just so... comforting!!

You're voice is just so soothing to him, he can't help but be near you!! But, if it genuinely makes you uncomfy he'll lay off.

And yes, he's always going to encourage the shipping of you. That's just gonna have to be a given.

And of course, lets you use his music in stream (and makes sure it plays during stream.)

If you do vlogs for your channel, he 100% will go with anything you plan. Need to run halfway across the city for a bit? Absolutely let's go! Slipping and falling? Yes. He'll do anything for the cam.

But in the end, he loves what you do. And loves to be apart of what you do.

Whitty:

Like Ruv, he's a little weary about your streams.

Again, it's not like he isn't supportive!! It's just that he really doesn't want Updike finding him.

But that doesn't mean that he won't watch your streams... despite the fact he barely understand how streams work.

He isn't there often, and doesn't really understand what streaming even is but... you're happy, so he's happy!

If you tell a joke to him off-stream you're going to have to explain the SHIT out of it...

“Oh, poggers.” “...what...?”

If you end up being able to teach him Minecraft, he's definitely no help at all. He'll end up staying in the base because he's a bit too scared to go fight the mobs.

But on the plus side, he's really good at building! He'll make a pretty little cottage for you if you ask.

Also surprisingly good with red stone?? Like he just makes little contraptions to make it easier for you to do certain things.

Any excuse to not leave the base, looks like you'll be collecting resources, sorry hun.

If you decide to vlog, than like Ruv he's 100% behind the camera. He may even help set up a stunt or two ;).

As long as the camera isn't on him, he's all for helping. Anything to make his little s/o happy :).

RE: JUNGKOOK CHANGED IN RUN

Why did Jungkook not want to be on Jimin's team in the last run episode? He has changed a lot from before. Thoughts.

My first thought is, you don't gotta interpret everything in a negative light.

Not every strong reaction is a bad reaction.

I'd be a phony ass fraud if I sat here and told you with my two thumbs that I didn't raise a brow at that moment. I did.

Especially when you contrast that episode with run 112 which falls on all fours with this current situation- ok may not all fours.

But in that video, like many others, RM had suggested they form teams based on the sunglasses they wore, just as he had suggested they form teams based on the seating arrangements.

Of course he'd meant it as a Joke just as we discussed in a previous blog post. Personally, I expected they make a draw, rock papers or even dance in circles like they did in the other episode to decide who got who in the competition.

But it seems in all the times he's been paired with JM he's been supper thrilled about it. He even warned the members not to underestimate him and JM when they'd unanimously concluded they were the disadvantaged team in the game- Jin not even bothering to ask them what their scores were on Korean.

He reset the timer to 10 seconds when Jk pointed out he wasn't good at reading fast

When the time stopped and they were asked to make a team of four, he turned to find JM almost immediately as if to make sure JM was part of the four, he held on to his arm to prevent RM from breaking the link.

He was supposed to pair with Yoongi and Jimin with Tae but he didn't even try to find Suga. At least V did try to find Jimin. He moved towards JM and when he realized JK was hugging him he went for Suga.

Throughout the episode he was giving JM tips on how to cheat and shot when he wasn't sure of the answers.

Yet in the last run, he didn't seem as enthusiastic about being paired with JM- or so, he'd have us believe. Smirk.

He ain't slick. Lol.

To me he seemed, on the surface of it, either really salty about the others having Jin or RM on their teams or upon reflection, just plain ass overcompensating for something.

I'd go with the later.

It's similar to how, Jimin got the Sauna card and he'd complained about not liking the Sauna but then swapped cards with Tae so he could be on JM's team.

Or how he'd make a theatrical show of wanting to win a competition but smirk satisfactorily to himself when he loses.

I really don't think it's a big deal.

Personally, I love watching them paired up and doing such activities. It's a great way to see how they work together as partners and as a team.

It's also a great way for them to spend time with eachother, enjoy eachother, nurture their bond and strengthen their relationship.

Fanservice or not, scripted or not, you cannot deny that spending time together doing activities together is good for building a relationship.

They spend a considerable about of time together off cameras but a lot of their time is spent on cameras and at work.

They gotta find a way to make their relationship work on the work as I keep saying. All that 'fanservice' people say they are doing? That's them making it work. They gotta find a way to go on dates, feed eachother, hold each other's hands, tell Jokes, laugh at eachother's jokes, express their attraction for each other, flirt, share eachother's interests and do things couples do without inviting public scrutiny to their every interaction and invasion of their privacy.

So where they see an opportunity they go for it. For JK it's the the little decisions he makes on their behalf like choosing where they will sleep, what activities they can do together, wanting the bigger room, making sure JM wins the presidential suite, or choosing a room detached from the other rooms.

He invests in his relationship the best way he can. Same goes for Jimin.

I keep saying this whole fanservice culture is a win win situation for them- for even any queer idol couple in the same band.

What seem like a challenge could technically be an opportunity for a date for them without dispatch breathing down their necks.

A typical example would be this. Jimin said he wanted to go get Yoga with the others but ended up going with YoonKook on their brewery excursion.

The more time they spend together, on and off cameras the more closer they get and the more they get to know eachother on a deeper level.

But you have to bare in mind, they need their personal spaces too in order for their relationship to function properly.

Jimin used can be very needy in his relationship but for the most part he enjoys his independence too.

Jk has always had a strong sense of independence but he can equally be quote needy and over attached once he is in a relationship- especially when things are going great for him.

Spending time apart, persuing personal goals and interest is good for them.

If it helps, think of moments when they hang around eachother as Jikook dates and when they hang quietly in the background of videos do think of those as them having their me times at work...

Would they miss an opportunity to 'date' or hang privately with eachother? I don't think so.

It's in their dicks interests and the interest of whole production team and crew to allow them to be around eachother as often and as much as they want and can.

I for one, I'm not prepared to sit through yet another excruciating episode of Jungkook wanting Jimin- physically and emotionally. I'm still dealing with the PTSD from the last BonV four episodes.

Y'all buy me Ko-fi please. I don't intend to sit through that shit sober.

If Jk is pushing to be on JM's team and what not it's mostly because he feels he needs to spend more time with him. If he's not pushing for that it just means he or they are both allowing for space and room in their relationship for eachother to pursue other activities and interests or even connect with other members- unless of course they are having relationship problems which I don't think is the case.

Jimin is particularly good at this.

He goes out of his way to nurture his relationship with the others even on set.

He does this especially with Tae.

He'd take Tae to go see places he and JK had already been to, he'd request to take pirate rides with Tae- even though JK is available and won't hesitate to let him know, he often make plans involving Tae or even the others- in Soop when Tae asked him to go ride around the town with him he chose to stay and manspread on Jin and Yoongi. *I'm cackling. Lmho.

Jimin is a funny guy.

Now does this mean he doesn't like spending time with Tae or that he's changed? Hell no.

Hell, Tae does the same thing from time to time too. I mean when he found out he had picked a Sauna card he asked to swap it knowing very well Jimin had picked that card too. Soulmates coulda soulmated that shit in hot piles of steamy.

Sure JK lurks around sometimes. He is the resident intruder stepping on Jimin's other ships' neck. Love him for this. Lol.

Perfect Disney villian.

Tae had to drag his ass away from the kitchen for intruding when he and JM were cooking in the Kitchen. Let's not talk about him physically removing him from JM's car or all the times he's complained about JK raining on his Vmin agenda.

When V wanted to be on a team with JM this man literally sabotaged him, hugging Jimin first. It's his laughter afterwards for me. Lmho.

V needs to insure his Jimin cos at this point it's trademark infringement. Hashtag soulmates. Lololol.

Jk needs to go ahead and free Vmin.

But JM does this too, in much more subtle ways- I'll never forget the look he had on his face when he had to get off the bus and walk home as punishment. It was the most heart breaking thing I ever seen.

Then he had to hang off Hobi to get JK to leave his friends and come to him.

It's why I used an ellipsis the last time I talked about Jimin being very mature now. Old Jimin would have, clapped back, made JK pay for that outburst if he genuinely thought JK meant what he said or believed JK really wanted to be on a team with someone else.

Y'all don't see him when JK compliments other people? He stays kicking his feet under the table🤣🤣🤣🤣

Jimin can be pretty scary and petty when he's mad or offended.

I’m a regular follower of yours and highly admire your talents. As a writer for the Adam Driver fandom, I feel like the readers are very cliquey based on observations and it pains me to say that. If you write everyday or long elaborate fics, you get replies and reblogs, many of them in fact. For others of us who want to share our talents but the creative muses don’t cooperate on a daily basis to have the equivalent output, as a result, get no recognition or comments. That lack of interaction sends the message that those contributions are not welcome because they don’t fit a certain unspoken criteria. What suggestions do you have, short of writing every single day, which is a dream in and of itself, to increase reader interaction without straying from your original style?

this is such a great question and I, too, have noticed some "cliquey" readers within the fandom. it obviously doesn't apply to all the readers out there, and there are so many lovely people who are supportive, but this fandom can be a bit, well, "cliquey" (writers & readers alike).

as someone who used to be able to pump out fics on a daily basis, and who's hit a bit of a bump in the road these past few months, I understand you. it's really frustrating when the muse isn't there, but you want it to be! the best thing you can do is just stop putting pressure on yourself to write, which I know is hard, but it works. take a step back, read other people's fics (I often find this helpful), and write whenever it feels right.

I don't think that because people aren't interacting with your content as much as others doesn't mean that it's unwelcomed, per se. it just means that the fandom may have a different taste than what you're writing, which is fine, but it's also frustrating to see others getting more interaction. I understand that; I've also been seeing a lot of that sort of thing over recent weeks and it's really, really frustrating.

the most important thing is: never, ever change your writing to conform to other's tastes. if you're enjoying what you're writing and you're proud of it, then I can guarantee that you'll always have readers. and you should write whatever you want and whatever makes you happy! that's what this is all about, having fun and writing what you want to write! there may not be very many readers, or as many as some of the "big" blogs, but there will always be people out there who appreciate and enjoy your fics (even if they're not always vocal about it). never forget that!

and try not to let the stats get to you too much (easier said than done, of course). trust me, it doesn't benefit anyone and you just end up getting caught up in that instinct to change your writing just to get more likes and reblogs and comments.

something to remember, and a quote of sorts that I always come back to: Clinique will always sell more than Chanel, but it's always the higher-quality stuff that really impresses. don't sell yourself short ;)

but here are a few tips on getting your work out there:

✶ TAGGING! tag the shit out of your work, because more tags = more likely to pop up on someone's dash. tag the character, the pairing, the fandom, the actor...all of it! don't be afraid to tag, tag, tag!!

✶ SELF REBLOGS! tumblr is shit lol and I often find that I miss people's posts sometimes because they just don't pop up on my dash. but, if you self-reblog, there's a more likely chance that your work will get out there!

✶ REBLOG THINGS FROM THE FANDOM! pics, character gifs, other people's writing...get your name out there a bit! thirst brings us together lol.

✶ CROSS-POST! if you're comfortable with it, post your work on other writing platforms! AO3 is my personal suggestion, but there are others like Wattpad or Fanfiction.net. I can't speak on how many adam peeps are on those particular platforms because I don't personally read anything on either of them, but it could be worth it!

✶ TAKE REQUESTS! again, only if you're comfortable with it. some of the best ideas come from others and I often find that other's ideas get the creative juices flowing for my person projects, too.

✶ AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, KEEP ON WRITING!! just because your work doesn't get as much interaction as you'd like doesn't mean that you'll never get that interaction. it takes some time to establish your writing "portfolio" and, truly, it only takes that one fic getting more recognition to bring more eyes to your writing. keep writing!

Ever since I got this, it was one of the first so its been a little while. I keep wondering if its a threat? But again, pets dying isn't planned. I should have enough to go for plot so that there is no need to kill pets.

The only problem with batcow, is pinterest doesn't have many pictures of cows that look like they could be pets because there are rarely people with them so thats why batcow hasn't shown up. Since I have more time to plan this one, I'll look for more options and see if I can find any.

what if, and hear me out, we made it gay🌈? or, at least, masc fem reader?

No, simply because I'm not comfortable writing it as the main relationship/character. I've tried before and I didn't like it in the least and scrapped a week work. So If I tried I doubt I would finish it, if I did, it wouldn't be good because I would probably just give up part way through. So I can definitely do ships and all that that aren't the main but for some reason every time I've tried to do it as a main relationship, I hate it. Sorry!

I'm actually planning for more poc to happen in the current one. I noticed lack of poc not long ago and confused myself as to why so there will definitely be more representation.

As for lgbtq, I'll try. I was planning on trying to have at least one ship or something because I haven't. But as long as its not the main relationship I can do it so that I'll at least post it.

When Forever Ends

Pairings: Lucifer Morningstar x Reader

Warnings: angst, not gonna lie this is intended to rip your heart out, I apologize ahead of time. It's sad and the only fluff is sad, sad fluff. I tried to negotiate for a slighter happier ending but the requester said and I quote 'Nope, rip my heart out and make me cry.' And the song they asked for doesn't help lol. So here it is.

Summary: Your voice echoed in his mind, he saw your smile every time he closed his eyes. It'd been years, but lately everything triggered his memories of you. He couldn't give you forever, but he promised he'd love you forever, even long after you were gone.

He knew, from the moment his eyes opened, he knew today would be hard.

This day always was.

It didn't matter how much time had passed, or how things had changed, this day would always provoke memories that squeezed his heart. Memories he never wished to forget, but hurt nonetheless.

He took longer to get ready then he normally did, his mind elsewhere as he poured himself a drink. It was early, to early to be drinking, but he needed the comforting burn the amber liquid offered him, needed the momentary distraction.

"Don't take too long Lucifer, a bad morning doesn't mean the day is ruined, we'll just have to make it a good day, won't we?"

He lowered the crystal glass away from his lips, a sad smile on his face. He couldn't almost hear your voice, as if you were right there. The almost joyful way you'd playfully scold him for taking to long. He sat the now empty cup on the glass bar, drifting towards his bedroom.

"Not today love." He muttered.

He wanted nothing more then to spend this dreary day locked away in his penthouse. Left alone with his memories of you, but his friends would be expecting him, and he had no excuse to give. So he got himself dressed and he put on a smile that never really reached his eyes, and he went on with his day.

"Must I? It's a rather tedious task, isn't it?"

You raised an eyebrow, smiling a bit as you fixed his tie.

"You don't have to do anything Lucifer. If you don't want to do something, don't. If you don't like something, change it."

You patted his chest lightly as you finished adjusting his tie.

"After all the devil is all about free will, isn't he?"

"Lucifer!"

He blinked at the sound of Chloe's voice, he hadn't realized he was so lost in the memory. Both Ella and the detective were watching him with almost concerned expressions.

"Well don't stand there gawking, don't we have a case to solve?" Lucifer huffed, turning his gaze away from them.

"We've been saying your name for almost five minutes." Chloe said slowly.

Her expression was sympathetic, and she placed a comforting hand on his arm.

"You seem really distracted today, is everything okay?"

Lucifer looked at her from the corner of his eyes, taking a step away from her reach.

"I'll be just fine detective, don't we have more pressing matters to focus on?" Lucifer said dismissively.

Ella frowned as her and Chloe shared a skeptical look.

"But Lucifer... you're crying..."

He frowned a little, slowly raising a hand to touch his cheek. A small smile graced his lips and he let out a quiet laugh as he started at his hand.

"So I am..."

Chloe took a step forward, trying to offer him comfort but Lucifer raised a hand, taking a step back.

"Perhaps it'd be best if I sat this case out, I'm afraid my mind is elsewhere today, I wouldn't be of much help."

He left in a hurry, their sympathy only making the pit in his stomach grow. They watched him go and Chloe pulled her phone from her pocket.

"We should call Linda."

Lucifer heaved a heavy sigh as he sat at the red light, impatiently waiting for it to change. He tapped his ring on the steering wheel, wondering just how much longer until the red turned green.

"You'd think the devil would be more patient with all the deals and favors you make."

He smiled at the memory of you saying that. He'd been rushing you, eagerly hoping to get to the party on time. You, however, seemed content to take things slow.

"If you're always rushing, you'll miss out on the things around you." You'd told him.

He'd begun to slow down a little after that, enjoying every moment a little more.

A honk from the car behind him pulled him from the memory, and he quickly sped away. Driving faster then he should have down the busy streets of LA. The sun was beginning to set when he finally reached his destination. He parked the corvette, shutting off the engine. He didn't move, not for a while.

The rows of tombstones seemed to stretch on for miles, and he took a small breath as he exited his car. It was memory now, finding the black marble stone, with the golden writing on it. He'd come to it so often, he could have found it blindfolded.

Lucifer stared at your name, engraved in elegant cursive, an old black and white photo of you, set in glass just under your name. You looked so beautiful, smiling as you proudly showed off the ring he'd given you. His heart dropped and he placed a hand on the smooth marble of your stone.

"Don't cry Luci, we always knew I couldn't be with you forever, we just didn't know it'd be this soon."

The first sad memory he'd had of you today and it made his vision blur. You had looked so pale laying in that hospital bed, so young to be so sick. He grasped your hamd tightly your own grip so weak.

"I don't know where I'm going, but I will always love you Lucifer."

He reached into his jacket, pulling a chain from his pocket, where your ring hung.

"Lucifer?"

He heard the voice, but didn't turn around, holding that ring tightly.

"I suppose the Detective called you?"

His voice was quiet, and Linda catiously approached him.

"She was worried, we all are."

He gave her a small smile before turning back to your grave.

"I'll be just fine my dear doctor. This is just a rather hard day for me."

Linda turned her attention to the tombstone, reading the name and looking at the photo. The date however surprised her a bit, she wasn't expecting it to be so long ago.

'1920-1945'

"You must have been very close."

Lucifer smiled a little, opening his hand to delicately trace the diamond on the silver band.

"Very much so..."

Linda looked at the ring, her heart breaking a little as she realized what it was.

"It's been seventy-five years, and this day never gets any easier."

He tucked the ring back into his pocket, kneeling down to brush a few blades of grass from the grave.

"She was so young to die so soon, although I suppose it was a cruel sort of mercy, I couldn't have bared to watch her grow old without me." Lucifer muttered.

"I can't give you forever, but darling I will love you forever, for all of time."

You had smiled when he said that, your hand growing colder in his.

"Heaven or hell, no matter where it is I go, l'll always be thinking of you Lucifer, and you'll always have my heart."

Lucifer softly skimmed his fingers over your photo before standing up again. Linda placed a comforting hand on his back.

"Forever and always darling."

Thanks for the advice :) omg I find the understanding people the hardest one as well, like I always have two options that I can't seem to decide, and there's always words that I don't know! How did you improve those, and in general basically English cause I'm not that good at English either haha did u stick to like a study timetable for UMAT?

Hmm, well at the time, my friend photocopied a few practice paper exams for me, so I just would write down all the word options (usually 4 words for each question) and study the dictionary meanings. If you can manage to get a few papers I think that would help. And I didn’t have a study timetable, I barely prepared for it LOL I just did it so that I wouldn’t have any regrets (which is good because otherwise I wouldn’t be an optom lol)

Area of Study and Module Essays

As for English in general, I really hated it, but I mainly improved because I would write a lot of practice essays and then send it to my tutors for feedback. 

Unless you’re a natural at English, I would advise that you disregard what the teacher says and memorise your essays. I can’t write something under exam pressure that still makes sense, so memorising helped me to deal with exam anxiety as well. However, there’s a way to do this so that you can answer 90% of questions thrown at you. 

The school gave us like a bunch of practice essay questions at the time based on past exams, and the questions can be grouped together into the different issues they ask you to talk about.

Have all the quotes and techniques written up in an extra-long exemplar essay.

The format of each sentence inside the paragraphs should be like 

“The [author/playwright/speaker] 

[illustrates/demonstrates/other action verb] 

[some facet about the theme of the paragraph] through 

[alliteration/metaphor/symbolism] which 

[insert consequence e.g. emphasises the blah blah blah]”. 

I dug up my old English essays to find you an example :) (I did As You Like It for my main text)

“Duke Frederick paradoxically announces “her very silence, and her patience/Speak to the people”, and banishes her, touting “thou art thy father’s daughter, there’s enough”. The high modality and use of verse illustrates the dramatic tension of the scene, and has illustrated Rosalind’s filial ties restrict her expression of outrage at her displacement”. Yet,Celia’s antithetical statement that “Now go in we content/To liberty and not tobanishment” allows her to embrace the wider world of the forest.”

You can of course, rearrange the elements of the format above so it doesn’t make your essay sound repetitive and makes the sentences flow nicely. 

You can see I save on word count by using the technique (antithesis) as an adjective, as opposed to saying “Shakespeare uses antithesis in Celia’s statement…”

Then change the introduction + the topic sentence + the concluding sentence in each paragraph to suit the exam question. You get better at changing these the more you practice, don’t worry!

It’s even easier for the questions where you get to choose what issues to talk about. 

Some Real Tips for Creative Writing

As for creative writing, that was also mainly just writing stories again and again and getting feedback from the teacher. 

Just so you know, for my exam, I wrote something based around culture. Basic story was pretty unoriginal: girl gets invited out by friends, but like has to take care of grandmother, was going to ditch grandmother to go, but then has internal monologue, *insert angst about how different her culture and friend’s culture was*, *some memories about grandmother*, *sprinkle some weather parallels her internal strife*, /struggle/, and then runs home, *insert comforting imagery of cultural foods and items* for bittersweet ending in 1200 words. Somehow this was the one story I got full marks from LOL

For some reason, the English teachers always badgered you to write something original, but then they were like write what you know. Which kinda threw me for a loop for ages, because I was awful at making up plot lines. Stick with writing what you know, the story turns out much better. 

Just write like one super good story with all the elements of the area of study in it, so that you can add elements of the prompt. 

English teachers always badger you to use the prompt properly, but no one can think of stuff on the spot, so again I just ignored their demands. 

But like there should only be one “complication” or else you won’t be able to resolve it in 1000 words

Likewise, no story should be spanning more than one day. You can span one week if you do something like “After a week had passed”. 

Always write in 3rd person just in case they complain that your writing has too much monologue. English scarred me and now I can barely read first person stories without feeling irked :’(

Find a balance between monologue, outside action/dialogue, and descriptive imagery. This is something that you should specifically request from someone who is reading your story to comment on (most of the time when people critique your story, they’ll pick at small things, but can forget to give you advice on the big picture). 

Likewise, find a balance between short sentences and long sentences to alter the pace of your story. The monologue should have both types, descriptive imagery will always be long so it slows the pace of the story, and dialogue can be varied to alter the story pace.
