BAKUGOU KATSUKI

-Loud boi isn’t gonna let anyone know that he’s intimidated.

-He’s already a little nervous to meet your family for the first time, though he’d never admit it. You were so hesitant to ask him to come over, and at first he thought it was because he was the loud and aggressive one.

-But that Saturday afternoon when he walks up to your house and your dad answers the door, he’s like ‘oh’ and it all clicks into place.

-He loves you a lot, so he wants to make a good impression, but he also never backs down from a challenge. So he and your dad have a stare down in the doorway, until you stroll around the corner and see them.

-You scold your dad and tell him to stop being rude to your boyfriend. Your dad doesn’t say anything, but he sighs and lets Bakugou in.

-The fun doesn’t stop there, though. You tug Bakugou around the house from room to room introducing him to your family, and every single one of them gives him the same cold, mildly threatening stare.

-Ngl your uncle who lives in the basement apartment kinda scares him, but he doesn’t say anything and tries to play it cool. The guy is built like a brick house and covered head to toe in intricate tattoos.

-He doesn’t mention it, but you can tell that your boyfriend is wondering about potential ties you have to the mafia, with a guy like that living in your house. But you assure him it’s just your uncle’s quirk that gives him the art on his skin, and that he’s actually pretty shy about it and doesn’t like going out.

-The last person he meets is your mom. With everyone being so much taller and physically stronger than you, he assumes that your mom is gonna be the person you got your tiny genes from.

-Lol no

-She’s at least six feet tall, and without a doubt the most intimidating person in the house. She’s got the face of an angel and the grace of a butterfly, but behind her smile Bakugou can see the willingness to kill anyone who hurts her baby (you).

-Lunch with the fam is a little awkward at first, until your younger cousin goads Bakugou into a spice eating contest. Then the shouting at the table begins, everyone placing their bets on who they think will win. You’re the only one who bets on your boyfriend, and you get like a hundred collective bucks out of your family members when he wins.

-He’s earned the respect of your cousin, who’s like eight maybe and now deems Bakugou a respectable opponent. Bakugou is torn between yelling and patting the kid on the head, so he probably does both and shouts at the kid to keep practicing so they can try and beat him one day.

-At the end of the visit, your boyfriend is surprisingly calm. You’re walking him home, arm in arm, not really saying much. Though you do tell him that he’s taking your living situation pretty well.

-He’s like wdym? And you explain to him that most of your friends and potential partners are scared of your family and refuse to come over because of them.

-Bakugou just scoffs and is like ‘of course they are, because they’re chicken shits. As if I’d be scared of a bunch of-’ and he pauses because you start laughing, not at him, just about the situation.

-Your family actually really likes him and find him a suitable boyfriend for you. They know you’re strong, but they want someone who can protect you and who’s loyal to you, and they see that in Bakugou. They probably invite him to the next family gathering.

MIDORIYA IZUKU

-A nervous boi

-He wants so badly to make a good impression on your family, to get their approval of your relationship. He knows you’re close with them, so he doesn’t want their potential opinions of him to sway your desire to be with him.

-He dresses casually but tidy, and while he waits at the door he fiddles with his shirt a bit.

-Almost has a heart attack when your sister opens the door and glares down at him with the rage of 1000 suns.

-He does his best to introduce himself formally and be polite, but your sister is making it awfully hard for him to stay focused. She doesn’t say anything to him, so he just continues chattering until he’s off on a tangent and saying way too much.

-And you’re like ‘I feel my boyfriend danger senses tingling’ so you go downstairs and lo and behold. 

-Ofc he’s not in any actual danger, just the danger of making a fool of himself. You set a hand on your sister’s arm, and the moment you do it’s like all the anger in her body dissipates and she turns into a sweet, smiling bean. Then she skips away to go do her homework.

-You pull Midoriya inside and give him a once-over anyways, just to make sure your sister didn’t burn holes in him with her glares. But he assures you he’s alright, and he’s a lot more relaxed now that you’re around.

-Probably says something like ‘I can see why you were so nervous about bringing me to your house, your older sister seems really protective of you’

-and you’re like ‘um,,,,actually she’s my younger sister’ and he’s like ‘wot’ and you’re like ‘also she’s the least scary of everyone’ and he’s like ‘wOT’

-You waste no time parading him from room to room to show him off, all while his soul slowly escapes his body.

-Your parents actually scare him the least, like, of course they’re protective of you, but they have the common courtesy not to exaggerate their scary qualities. They still tower over both you and Midoriya, but they’re mostly civil in terms of interactions.

-Your older brothers scare him a little bit more. They share the basement suite, so you drag your boyfriend downstairs to introduce them all to each other...and interrupt their poker game with their friends.

-All of them have some kind of tattoo visible, nothing Midoriya recognizes as any gang symbol, but he’s still wary. However, he manages to say hello and all the pleasantries, and actually gets a smile out of one of your brothers, who tries to rope him into a game of cards.

-Thankfully you save him with the excuse that you still have more family to show him off to, but he’s left with the promise of ‘later, then’.

-Lastly is your sister, who he’s technically already met. She’s arguably the scariest of everyone. She’s easily almost six feet tall and looks like she could bench press the two of you with ease. You promise him that she’s a literal sweet pea, but when the two of you walk up to her room, Midoriya isn’t so sure.

-She glares at him hard, like she’s judging him about everything and if he doesn’t pass she’ll snap him in half. He has to swallow the lump in his throat, and quickly looks around the room for some kind of thing to ask about that might get her to open up.

-And he sees it. One of the rarer All Might figures from an old merch line, one that he also has, so he’s like ‘do you like All Might’ and it’s like a switch is flipped.

-You breathe a sigh of relief as the two of them start nerding out about their favourite hero, sprouting facts and recalling films and old news videos. When he mentions that All Might teaches at his school, your sister honest to god squeals, and starts asking all kinds of questions about what kind of teacher he is, what he’s learned, what it’s like to be a protogee of such a great hero. He answers everything with glee, all his former fears forgotten.

-When it comes time for dinner, your sister insists that your boyfriend sit next to her, which is apparently a very high honor because one of your brothers sulks off to the other end of the table. (You assure your brother later that it’s just temporary and that your sister just really likes your boyfriend).

-But seeing the two of them interact warms your heart, it’s usually hard for your sister to make friends because she’s so intimidating, so you’re glad they’re getting along. And so does the rest of your family! They see Midoriya’s kindness and hardworking attitude, and they warm up to him pretty quickly.

-It ends up being a really enjoyable night, despite the rocky start. Though sadly yes your boyfriend does eventually get roped into a game of poker, and yes your brother’s cheat, but you cheat too, and you’re all betting in chocolate coins. You share your hoard with him.

TODOROKI SHOUTO

-He goes into it being not nervous, and ends up being Quite nervous once he meets your family.

-When he arrives, you’re thankfully the one to answer the door, so he doesn’t get hassled, so everything seems pretty normal right off the bat. Until your cousin walks through the room and is like ‘???? who’s this pipsqueak???’ and Todoroki is torn between being his usual snarky self and being polite.

-He wats to throw shade right back, but for your sake he wants to make a good impression. You’re used to his manners (or lack thereof) but he doesn’t want your family to think he’s not worthy of you. He really loves you a lot and wants to stay with you.

-So he goes for a formal introduction, even going in for a handshake. It’s kind of funny, because your cousin is like ‘lol what are manners’ but your glare forces him to return the gesture. His hand completely dwarfs your boyfriend’s, and you have to hide a snicker.

-And then the guy awkwardly wanders out of the room.

-You and Todoroki kind of just stand there for a second, and then he’s like ‘is this what you meant when you said your family was intimidating’ and you’re like ‘:3′

-You give him a tour of the house, a nice modest place with traditional aspects. It’s nowhere near as big as his, but he like it that way, it makes the place more homey and warm.

-You introduce him to family members as you come across them; your younger twin nuisances cousins, who are more mischievous than dangerous, your aunt and her wife, who look like they could get away with murder, your brother and his friends, who mostly only glare at Todoroki to try and make him uncomfortable.

-Thankfully he’s used to the stoic and slightly scary expressions, thanks to his dad. He wonders momentarily if you’re safe here, but then he realizes that everyone in the house is especially kind to you, and very affectionate when they think he’s not looking. He doesn’t even bother asking the question.

-Lastly are your parents, who are in the kitchen preparing dinner. They’re a little perturbed that you’re both in the kitchen when they’re working, but they seem to be less purposefully intimidating than everyone else. They’re still a little scary though.

-Then he notices that your parents are making soba. From scratch. Which is particularly difficult to master, so he figures they must be pretty well practiced if they’re so good at it.

-Without thinking, he asks if they’ve made soba before, and soon your parents are sprouting off about their culinary careers and the restaurant they run. You were supposed to take over one day, but you ultimately chose a different path in life, even after they taught you so much.

-Todoroki didn’t even realize you could cook, but now he wants more than anything to try your meals someday, or learn a few things from you and make dinners together.

-It startles him a little that he’s thinking so far ahead in your lives, but honestly if you’ve managed to get him as a boyfriend then you’re likely to have him for your whole life, if you want him.

-He talks a little more with your parents about the food, expressing in his way that he’s looking forward to a dinner that’s had so much hard work go into it. And you can see the little light go on in your parents’ heads, the light that signals they approve of your choice in boyfriend and have started making room in their hearts for him.

-Dinner is nice, pretty peaceful aside from your twin cousins causing their usual trouble, but he’s nonplussed by it. he still wonders how you managed to come out so small in comparison to everyone else, but it doesn’t bother him too much. He can see that you’re loved and well cared for, and a little piece of him hopes that one day he’ll be able to get to know your family even better.

BEST MOVIE MOMENTS OF 2020

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Abe Makes Dinner from ABE

Teen chef protégé Abe (Stranger Thing’s Noah Schnapp) hopes that his dinner blending Israeli and Palestinian dishes will mend a bridge between his Israeli and Palestinian families (as well as his atheist father). But he gets a sad dose of reality when he learns the hard way that a wedge between families can’t always be solved with a meal.

“Wait for It” from HAMILTON

On June 16, 2016, Leslie Odom Jr. surprised many by beating Hamilton star/creator Lin-Manuel Miranda for the Best Actor award at the Tony Awards. And now they understood why thanks to Disney+ presenting the musical. And it all has to do with the song “Wait for It.”

In this soulful musical number, Odom Jr. allows us to understand Aaron Burr’s beliefs in letting fate leads his path. Whether it’s winning the heart of a married woman or watching all his loved ones parish, Burr is willing to wait for destiny to reveal why. It also showcases the contrast between Burr and Hamilton. This song changes Burr from History’s villain to a complicated anti-hero.

10)          Deku and Bakugo go full Super Sayan in MY HERO ACADEMIA: HEROES RISING

My Hero Academia always delivers great action scenes and they truly shine in their latest round in the cinema.

In his final battle to protect young brother and sister Mahoro (Tomoyo Kurosawa in Japanese, Dani Chambers in English) and Katsuma (Yuka Terasaki in Japanese, Maxey Whitehead in English) from ruthless power-stealer Nine (Yoshio Inoue in Japanese, Johnny Yong Bosch in English), underdog hero-in-training Izuku “Deku” Midoriya (Daiki Yamashita in Japanese, Justin Briner in English) transfers his “One-For-All” power to hotheaded classmate Bakugo (Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese, Clifford Chapin in English). The result is an image of the in super powered form resembling Super Sayans.

When Deku reaches 100% power, the film suddenly turns white then stretches into abstract imagery.

Honestly, the main reason I put this on the list is because it’s pure awesome and I’m not afraid to admit it.

9)            A Survivor Model from COLLECTIVE

This documentary follows the reporters of Romanian Newspaper Gazeta Sporturilor as their investigation into the Colective Club fire in Bucharest that killed 27 people and left 180 injured exposed vast health care fraud that caused survivors to die in the hospital and would bring down the government. Another key focus is a survivor who was so badly burned she lost most of her fingers. The camera focuses on her as she watches conferences about the fire.

In a standout moment, she models for photo shoots. In this moment, we see a beautiful woman who refuses to allow her disability to stop her, revealing her power.

8)            the Wuhan Flu Song from BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM

Many best scenes of 2020 will focus on the bed scene with Tutar and Rudy Gulianni. But I prefer to focus on the scene where Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen) performs the “Wuhan Flu Song” at a Anti-Masker Rally. Not only is it deliciously cringy and hilarious, but It perfectly captures all of Cohen’s strengths as a comedic performer.

As with Borat’s previous cringy yet catchy “Throw the Jew Down the Well, Cohen uses the Borat persona exposes the ugliest side of America. Watching the Qanon conspiracy theorists cheering on Borat (under the guise of Country Steve) singing about injecting Obama with the Coronavirus horrifies while splitting sides. This moment reveals the dangerous consequences of misinformation and conspiracy theorists on society. Plus, the song is shamelessly catchy as hell.

Add the fact that Cohen was nearly attacked during this scene shows how far he’s willing to go to make a point and get a laugh.

7)            The Dinner Scene from LET HIM GO

This scene is a perfect example of how you put subtext in a scene. On the surface, It’s just Weboy matriarch Blanche (Lesley Manville) serving porkchops to her daughter in law Lorna’s(Kayli Carter) former parent in laws Margaret (Diane Lane) and George Blackledge (Kevin Costner). But with the context of Margaret and George trying to deliver Lorna and their grandson from her abusive husband, you can feel the hostility in the atmosphere.

It’s a credit to the actors and their ability to hide their aggression under a mask of southern hospitality. It’s especially true for Manville, who brings to life a woman who is a master of hiding her cruelty under a pleasant smile. She may sound welcoming to them, but you can tell something’s off about her. No wonder she’s able to manipulate the police into siding with her. Hell, many audience will be surprised when they find out she’s British in real life.

Lane matches her every step of the way with the most nuanced jabs.

It won’t get as much appreciation due to it’s unassuming nature. But it’s a perfect scene to show how to bring nuance to a performance.

6)            The Restaurant Scene from THE INVISIBLE MAN

At first, it seemed Cecilia (Elizabeth Moss) finally has the drop on her sociopathic control freak ex Adrian (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). After days being tormented by him, Cecilia finally has proof of how he turns invisible. Now she goes to a public restaurant to convince her sister Emily (Harriet Dyer). But then a  levitating knife appears out of nowhere and slits Emily’s throat before flying into Cecilia’s hands.

Director Leigh Whannell and cinematographer Stefan Duscio do an excellent job using everyday envirnoments to create a sense of unease. Whenever the camera lingers on a kitchen, you search with anxious eyes for any sign of Adrian. In this case, they use the ambience of a crowded fancy restaurant to create a false sense of security. And yet, you can’t help but wonder if Adrian’s still watching them.

It’s in this scene where title character goes from a good villain to a great villain. Here we see what a cunning monster he truly is. The scene also showcases Moss’s terrific performance as her desperate eyes showcase the complete helplessness she feels in this scenario.

5)            Edna sheds her skin in RELIC

Rarely do the words “horror” and “heartbreaking” go together, but that describes the ending to this underrated gem.

Kay (Emily Mortimer) returns to her family home to care for her mother Edna (Robyn Nevin), who seems to be suffering from dementia. Now she and her daughter Sam (Bella Heathcote) find themselves trapped in the crawlspace while fleeing a warped Edna, who has been warped by a supernatural force. With contorted joints and decaying flesh, she has become monstrous. At first it seems they have defeated Edna and are heading out the door.

Then Kay looks back to see her mother lying on the ground, struggling to breath. This brings the film into a unexpected turn as Kay carries the creature that used to be her mother to bed. When Kay peels the skin off Edna’s body to reveal a charcoal skinned, dying creature, the film goes from creepy to heartbreaing. Anyone who ever lost a loved one to dementia will recognize to devastating feeling of watching them fade away right in front of your eyes.

4)             The one-take action scene in EXTRACTION

Well, we can’t have a best movie moments of 2020 list without mentioning the 10 minute action sequence from Extraction.

As black market mercenary Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) shields the kidnapped son of a drug lord from other mercenaries, his race across a Bangladesh village delivers all you want from an action movie. Fast paced car chase? Check. Semi-automatic gun battles? Check. Hand to hand combat? Check. Parkour across rooftops? You bet. Sometimes you’ll even get people get hit by cars during hand to hand combat. All of this happens while cinematographer Newton Thomas Sigel makes it look like one take.

Sure, sophisticated viewers will recognize there the cuts are hidden. But when director Sam Hargrave is willing to ride on the hood of a car as it races across dirt roads for the sake of a shot, you can’t help but be impressed

3)            Opening Bike Ride from THE CLIMB

The film begins with what sees like a regular bike ride. American Mike (Director and Co-Writer Michael Angelo Covino) and Kyle (Co-Writer Kyle Marvin) are racing across the road of a French mountain before Kyle’s wedding. But then Mike reveals he’s slept with Kyle’s fiancé, resulting in the furious Kyle to chase Mike. Unfortunately, they’re both too exhausted to commit to a long chase.

The whole opening sequence could be its own short film. Covino and cinematographer Zach Kuperstein) shoot it all in one unbroken take, allowing the awkward exchange to flow more naturally. It leads to a hilarious moment when Kyle tries to chase Mike, but neither have the energy to keep going. Plus, it summarizes the reoccuring cycle of the film with Mike becoming increasingly self-destructive and a terrible friend and Kyle being nice until pushed too far.

2)            The Ending from UNCUT GEMS

After spending two hours in a state of panic, it looks like the audience will finally breath a sigh of relief. After locking his pissed off brother in law Arlo (Eric Bogosian) and his goons Phil (Keith William Richards) and Nico (Tommy Kominik) in the Jewelry store with him, smooth talking jeweler and gambling addict Howard Ratner (Adam Sandler) makes the biggest win of his life via pinpoint accurate predictions of a basketball game. Now he has millions of dollars; way more than enough to pay off his debt. Everything’s coming up Howard. That is until the furious Phil puts a bullet in Howard’s head and proceeds to rob his store.

With all his reckless behaviour (including putting his girlfriend at risk) and overconfidence, you knew at somehow Howard was going to be punished. But when the flilm cuts to scenes of Howard’s family celebrating the game and his girlfriend leaves with the money, you can’t help but know how bad they’re going to feel when they find Howard dead.

Then the camera zooms into Howard’s bullet wound to reveal the same colourful kaliedescope imagery as shown within the title uncut gems. With Daniel Lopatin’s enchanting new wave score playing, this moment gives the audience a moment to finally relax before closing with Gigi D’Agostino’s L’amour Toujours.

In spite of (or because of) his flaws; Howard is himself an uncut gem.

1)            The little things inspire Joe from SOUL

Everyone recognizes “The Pixar Moment”; that scene that elevates a Pixar film from great to extraordinary. No one can truly define it, but it’s the one scene from the film everyone talks about. It’s the ten-minute prologue from Up. It’s Anton Ego’s reaction after trying Remy’s dish in Ratatouille. Even a lesser Pixar film can have this moment; a perfect example is when Lighting McQueen allows Ramirez to race in his place in Cars 3. Now we can add another film to the list thanks to Pixar’s latest masterpiece Soul.

After a day of escaping the afterlife and being trapped in the body of a therapy cat, Joe Gardner’s (Jamie Foxx) has finally achieved his dream of being in a Jazz band. And he feels…nothing. So, he heads back to his piano to ponder his direction in life. Then he finds the items 22 (Tina Fey) collected while in his body. What results is a moment fans will be coming back to in their moment of need.

As Joe rests 22’s items in front of his piano and starts playing, he comes to realize how a pizza crust and a seed truly meant to her. In the process, he comes realize the moments that seemed meaningless at first had some magic in them. The joy of playing for his father. The feel of the ocean waves flowing on his feet. The taste of a café’s pie.

In a time when many people can’t do any major activities, this moment serves as a reminder of to appreciate the little things in life. I imagine many audiences will return to this scene in their lowest moments.

Chapter 3:Boys and Ghouls

Katsuki yawned as he got out of bed.The memories of last night came rushing back to him as he looked at himself in the mirror."It all seems like a crazy dream..."He muttered to himself,running a hand through his hair.He put on a clean binder and opened the door-and crushed the door knob with his werewolf strength."Please,let this be a dream."

After his Mom's daily yelling and beating,he put on his hearing aids and uniform,grabbed a sandwitch and his backpack and headed to school.Like always,Deku caught up to him on the way.

"Good morning,Kacchan!"

"Morning,Deks."

He(he was wearing a 'he/him' pronouns pin today)blinked in surprise."Deks?"

Katsuki faltered,"Y-yes?Is it okay if i call you that?"His mind was screaming at him now,telling him how stupid he was.

He smiled,"You can call me whatever you like,Baks."

Katsuki smiled,"Okay,Zelda."He burst out laughing at look on his face.

"Whatever you say,Link."He grinned at the surprised look on his face.

"Oh my god."They both whip around at the sudden voice,seeing it was Jirou with Hagakure next to her,holding their hand,"Is this how nerds flirt?Am i witnessing a nerd mating dance?"

"I think it's sweet."Said Hagakure,"Besides,you've said loads of nerdy stuff to me.Like-"

"BABE!Don't tell people that stuff!"

Katsuki mouthed 'babe' to Deks,grinning,and his best friend stifled his laughter.

Hagakure smiled sweetly.Behind a pole behind her was a silver-haired and blue eyed girl,watching Katsuki.He raised an eyebrow at her and felt an odd tingling sensation in the back of his head.Deku followed his gaze.

"Hi!Who are you?"She ran away.

"That was weird."Jirou commented.

"I'm sure she's just shy."Defended Hagakure.

"Whoever she was,what does she want with me?"Katsuki asked outloud.

"I'm sure it's nothing bad."

"Typical Deks,always assuming the best out of everyone."

Deks smiled at him,blushing,and Katsuki smiled back.

"Subtlety,thy name is not heard."Muttered Jirou.

"So we're sure last night wasn't a dream?"Asked Kirishima as they walked into the gym and Ashido and Yaomomo walked up to them.Yaomomo and Katsuki responded by showing them her fangs and taking out his claws respectively.Kirishima grinned."Yep,this is real!We fought werewolves and a vampire and won!We're superheroes!"He whisper-yelled.

Yaomomo made the face of a flushed person,"I don't know if i'd say that-"

"Nope.Can it.You're a superhero,Yaomomo,deal with it."Cut in Sero.Yaomomo looked like she wanted to protest but before she could,class started.Katsuki felt the sensation again.

"Uh,who's that girl watching us?"Whispered Ashido to Katsuki.Turning his heads back,he saw the same girl from this morning watching them through the gym room door!

"We don't know."Deku responded,whispering as well,"She was watching Kacchan this morning too."

"Creepy."

The girl flinched and ran off again.

Katsuki remembered Yaomomo's words."I think she might be a monster."He whispered,"I feel this weird feeling when she's around."

The gang was on high alert."Do you think she wants to kill us too?"Kirishima whispered.Katsuki shruged,unsure.

"...I don't know,she just seems scared more than anything."

"Maybe she just needs friends."Ashido offered.Sero nodded in agreement.

"I'm kinda scared of her."Kirishima admitted.

"HEY!"Coach yelled,"You seven!Pay attention!"

"Friends!"Yaomomo called out to them after the final bell rang,"Please come to my house.I have something to show you.Or someone rather."

They all got into her limo and Ashido rested her head on her shoulder.They smiled at eachother.Kirishima and Kaminari grabbed a couple of chocolate bars from the snack bar.Sero sat down next to Yaomomo.

"So who is it you wanted to show us?"

"Mina's new teacher,Ms.Shuzenji."Katsuki,Sero and Deku's eyes widened and Kaminari chocked on his chocolate bar.

"The school nurse is a wixen?!"Kirishima exclaimed before slapping a hand over his mouth and whispering,"The school nurse is a wixen?!"

"I knew it!"Said Ashido,draping herself over Yaomomo,"Those medicines worked way too fast!They must have been magic!"

The limo stopped and they exited,Ashido holding Yaomomo's hand and skipping."So where is she?"Ashido inquired once they entered.

"Right here."They whipped around to see Ms.Shuzenji entering."'Hello,Ashido."She smiled kindly and Ashido smiled back."Ready for your first lesson?"

"You bet i am!"

Yaomomo sent Katsuki and the rest of the boy's off to the men's section of the hot spring and asked one of the butler's to give them cloth to cover themselves.Katsuki undressed in the changing room and wrapped his own around himself in the function of a binder and shorts.

"Kacchan!"Deku called him over to where he was,standing by the water and Katsuki made his way over to him,trying not to stare at his bare torso(He could see his stretch marks and he wanted to trace them with his fingers).Deku smiled at him and grabbed his hand,leading him into the spring.As they got into the water,Katsuki grabbed his other hand."We deserve some rest and chillaxin' after last night."Deku commented as they kept their hands connected.

"I still can't believe last night was real."

"Yeah,you're a werewolf now."Deku agreed,laying on Katsuki's chest, smiling and closing his eyes peacefully.Katsuki did the same."I've always wanted a monster boyfriend."

In the background,Eijirou,Kaminari and Sero were gaping at them.

"What the fuck?!"Kaminari whispered-yelled,"Are they dating or not?!"

Eijirou shrugged it off,"It's no big deal.I mean,what if i called you my boyfriend?"

Silence.Kaminari looked at him while opening and closing his mouth like a fish,blushing.Sero gawked at him.It was then that he realized what he'd said and he blushed so much that his face probably looked like Kirby.

"Not that i would-Not that i don't WANT you to be my boyfriend-you're super duper awesome and attractive-I'll shut up now."He swam to the corner of the spring,facing away from Sero and most importantly,Kaminari.

"Woah,seventh wheel.My power."Sero muttered.

"You're not a seventh wheel!"Kaminari protested."We love you!"Eijirou turned around,smiling at Sero.

"We love you a lot!Right,guys?"He called over Bakugou and Midoriya,who nodded.

"You're awesome!"Said Bakugou.

"You're the best!"Midoriya agreed.Kaminari drapped himself over Sero in a hug.Kirishima joined.And so did Bakugou and Midoriya.Sero tried to keep an annoyed expression but failed,smiling.

"Thanks guys.I love you too."

"I wish i had friends..."A sad voice said and everyone's heads snapped to-

"You!"It was the same silver haired girl from earlier!She flailed her arms.

"I swear i wasn't peeking on you!It's just-I just-"She got teary eyed and Midoriya ran up to her,hugging her.

"It's okay."

Izuku didn't know this girl.Nothing.But someone had to help.

"So you're sad because you don't have friends,right?"The girl snifled,nodding."I'll be your friend."

Her eyes widened."R-really?"Izuku nodded,smiling.A beautiful smile slowly made it's way across her face and she hugged him back."I'm Yanagi Reiko.What's your name?"

"Midoriya Izuku.It's nice to meet you."

"So...you're not gonna try to kill us?"Kirishima asked slowly.Yanagi shook her head.

"I am not like the rest of my kind.I do not wish to harm anyone."

"And your kind is..."Said Kacchan.

"Ghouls."

"As in,those people that scream so hard they kill you?"Sero asked.Yanagi nodded,"Okay,i'm really glad you're on our side."

"Why were you following us?"Kacchan asked.Yanagi twirled her fingers.

"Um,i sensed that you were a monster so i thought we could be friends?"

Kacchan stared at her before smiling,"Bakugou Katsuki.Pleasure to meet you."

"I'm Kirishima Eijirou."Kirishima chimed in.

"Kaminari Denki."Kaminari leaned on Kirishima.

"Sero Hanta."He did a two finger salute.

Yanagi bowed."It's an honor."

"Hey,hey,none of that.Were friends.You can be yourself with us."Kacchan said,placing a hand on her shoulder.She blinked before giving him a closed-eyed smile and straightening up.

"Thank you,friend."

"Hey gang!"Yaomomo greeted them as they arrived in the living room.She blinked in surprise upon seeing Yanagi,"Who is this?"

Katsuki jabbed a thumb in Yanagi's direction,"This is Yanagi,our new friend.She's a ghoul so she sensed that i was a werewolf and she wanted to be our friend."

Yaomomo smiled at her,"What a pleasent surprise!I'm Yaoyorozu Momo and i'm a vampire!You can call me Yaomomo!"

Ashido and Ms.Shuzenji came in then,beaming."Hey,angel!"She kissed her girlfriend's cheek,who would have blushed if she could.

"Welcome back!How was the lesson?"

"Awesome!"She stretched.

"Really?I thought you hated studying."Kaminari commented.

"Yeah but this is freaking magic!"

"And who is this lovely young lady?"Ms.Shuzenji asked,pointing her cane at Yanagi,who was tucked behind Katsuki and Deku.Katsuki introduced them.

"There's still plenty of time before the sun goes down."Ashido said,"Let's party with our new friend!"

They spent the next two hours showing Yanagi human things.They showed her nachos,the legend of zelda and boba,all of which she loved.Then Yaomomo's parents came home.

"Momo,who is she?"Mrs.Yaoyorozu asked upon seeing Yanagi,who shrunk behind Sero.

"This is our friend,Yanagi.She's a...ghoul."Momo responded.Mr and Mrs.Yaoyorozu's heads snapped towards Katsuki and the rest his friends."They know."She reassured them.Shock overcame them.

"They know?!"Mr. Yaoyorozu exclaimed.Yaomomo took in a deep breath and retold the happenings of last night.Their eyebrows seemed to dissapear into their hair.

"Why didn't you tell us?!"Mrs.Yaoyorozu said,hugging her,"You could have been killed!"Mr.Yaoyorozu joined in,kissing the top of her head.

"I didn't know how!You were out of town and i thought i could handle this by myself!"

"You did.And i'm proud of you but also very,very worried for you and your friends."Mr.Yaoyorozu said.

"If it makes you feel any better,i can kinda like the new gear."Katsuki said,taking out his claws and was stunned when Mr.Yaoyorozu smiled at him.

"Then you are a very brave young man."Katsuki blushed and scratched the back of his head.Woah,Mr.Yaoyorozu was kinda...hot.

"Thanks."

"Dabi will come again."Mrs.Yaoyorozu stated,"And he's not the only danger.There's thousands of monsters out there that can't wait to sink their claws into some innocent humans."

"What about a werewolf protecting them?"Katsuki showed his fangs.

"Or a wixen?"Ashido lifted up a pink,lava-like potion from her utility belt.

"Or a ghoul?"Yanagi stood tall.

"You won't always be there to protect them."Mrs.Yaoyorozu said out of concern more than anything,"They need to be able to protect themselves.And we can teach you how."

After her friends(except Yanagi) agreed to come by every day after school for training and left in the limo,Momo went to talk to her parents.

"Mom,Dad...Yanagi says she dosen't have any family that treat her nicely.Can she hide from them here?"

Mom and Dad smiled."Of course she can!"Dad said.

"Monsters protect Monsters!"Mom added.Momo beamed and ran to the kitchen to hug Yana-Reiko who was drinking tea.

"They agreed!"Reiko looked stunned for a moment before smiling widely and hugging back.

Oh right, I forgot to ask now that you finished the Yakuza/Overhaul arc but on a scale from Endeavor to All For One, where does Overhaul fit on the bad dad scale?

somehow this very simple ask which could have been answered in like three sentences turned into my definitive ranking of the top ten Known Dads in BnHA. I’m not sure how either. but here we go

9. All for One

is super creepy and manipulative and purposely brainwashed Tomura into hating All Might through a series of meticulously calculated encounters

decided the best way to help Tomura reach his full potential would be to step out of his life and get himself arrested

hasn’t even seen his other son, Izuku, since he was a baby! what a fucking deadbeat smdh

but on the other hand, he does seem supportive and indulgent towards Tomura and gives him lots of praise and encouragement

8. Endeavor

dad score - 39/100

abused his kid

abused his kid’s mom, in front of his kid

you wouldn’t even know it, but he actually has other kids, whom he never seems to acknowledge or pay even the slightest attention to whatsoever!

only had kids in the first place so he could raise his kids to beat All Might. has no problem telling this to said kids and even to All Might’s own face

having said that, the only reason his score isn’t in the negatives is because as of chapter 165, it seems like maybe? possibly? he just might be trying for the first time ever. or like. trying to try. if you can count showing up to Shouto’s supplemental course to shout “SHOOOOOOOOOOUUUUTOOOOOOOOO” at him from the stands as trying. but like, I feel like he is attempting to be encouraging. it doesn’t mean he’s not still a piece of shit, but if the guy is trying to be better then, like, it’s better than him not trying, you know?

but he’s still terrible

7. Kurogiri

dad score - 60/100

Tomura’s Actual Dad

is calm, rational, polite, and a respected doctor of medicine (probably) (idk you guys I just still get that vibe)

took Tomura and all the other kids on a character-building trip to Villain Island in an omake from chapter 149 which I consider to be canon

there’s nothing more dadlike than taking your kids camping and trying to teach them how to survive in the wilderness

taught Tomura how to get along with others

always seems to have his back, which is real important you guys

6. Gran Torino

dad score - 70/100

not the best score but a C is still respectable. mostly it’s just cuz he was out of the picture for so long. although we’ve since found out that Toshinori by his own admission had a habit of pushing away people who cared about him, so that may have had something to do with it

cares a lot about Toshinori even though he’s shit at showing it

made him into a man by beating the shit out of him until he got super strong

was right there in the thick of things with Toshinori during both of his fights against All for One. he straight up risked his life to back him up against the strongest villain alive

took it in stride when he found out he had a grandson that he’d never met, and took him under his wing as well and raised him for like three whole days and taught him how to use a microwave

5. Ochako’s Dad

dad score - 80/100

I probably should have given him a higher score, honestly. he seems really sweet. he’s probably a better dad than Bakugou’s Dad tbh, but Bakudad gets the edge just for the much steeper difficulty level. because let’s be honest, there’s a biiiig difference between raising a sweet baby angel like young Ochako, and raising a sentient roman candle with a potty mouth

but he works so hard to make ends meet, and somehow he and his wife managed to scrimp and save enough to send Ochako to U.A. because they wanted her to follow her dreams and they want the best for her

and they’ve always been so supportive of her on like the three occasions we’ve seen them in flashbacks or talking to her over the phone or visiting her after the sports festival

look at this thumbs up though

tell me that’s not the most dad thing you’ve ever seen in your fucking life

4. Bakugou’s Dad

dad score - 82/100

has like two lines in the entire series, but

as previously mentioned, raised Bakugou Katsuki and somehow survived to tell the tale. so honestly he probably deserves some kind of medal

also, since we know virtually nothing about him other than what was in the omake profile from volume 11, I’ve been imagining him as being kind of like Calvin’s Dad from Calvin and Hobbes

so he gets bonus points for that positive association

really there’s no reason for him to be this high up tbh except that I firmly believe he’s a great dad and I’m just waiting for canon to prove me right. I’ll be right here waiting, manga

3. RockLockRock

dad score - 90/100

he’s awesome

also, look. being a hero is inherently dangerous. you never know where you’re going to get called to next, and any mission could end up being your last. injuries and trauma go hand-in-hand with the job. most of the hero characters we’ve seen don’t have families, and I have to assume that’s not a coincidence. so to me, all of this means that if a hero character actually does go through with starting a family, it means they wanted that family more than anything, and you can bet they freaking love the shit out of said family. I have no doubt that RLR is and will continue to be an amazing dad

plus his kid is just too damn cute

2. Aizawa

dad score - 95/100

first of all, if this was a ranking of Hottest BnHA Dads, you better believe he’d be at the very top and it would be no contest

he has 20 kids and somehow he’s able to handle each and every one of them

risked his life to save the kids barely two weeks into the school year with no hesitation, even though he nearly died

did the same thing again barely two months later. this time thankfully without the nearly dying

has the total respect and trust of each and every kid in his class. and considering the personalities of some of them, that’s no small feat

specifically, it says a lot that even Bakugou doesn’t give him any lip and always listens to him without complaint and is even polite

speaking of Bakugou, he defended him to that Jerk Reporter during the Hideout Raid arc and proved that he understands his students better than anyone

isn’t afraid to deal out strict discipline when the situation calls for it, but it’s always for the students’ own good

isn’t above trolling the shit out of his kids on occasion when he feels like it

is good with kids of all ages and not just teenagers, as evidenced by how good he also was with Kouta during the forest invasion arc

lastly, as we saw in chapter 136, he has an untold repertoire of secret dad moves just waiting to be unleashed, such as (a) crouching down to a seated Deku’s eye level, and (b) gently punching him in the chest while affectionately calling him by a nickname. who knows what other moves this man has in reserve. I for one can’t wait to see more

1. All Might

dad score - 96/100

indisputable best dad. A+. although even he didn’t get a perfect score, because nobody is perfect and there’s always room for improvement

always knows exactly what to say. despite constantly seeming to stress about it. probably he only stresses because he cares so much and he’s worried about doing things exactly right

loving father to the two most difficult children in the whole series, Midoriya “which bones did you break this time” Izuku, and Bakugou “like I said, anyone who even attempts to parent this child automatically deserves a medal” Katsuki

this man literally got down on his hands and knees and begged Deku’s mom to let him try to be the Best Dad Ever to her child. he loves him so fucking much

Nighteye (I forgot about him until after I had already made the list and was too lazy to go back and insert him in his rightful place at number 3. 92/100. loses points for FUCKING DYING AND MAKING ME CRY)

Fat Gum (same deal as Nighteye in that I forgot about him. 75/100. he’s loving and jolly and gives out free candy, but he let Kirishima get all beat up. BE MORE CAREFUL NEXT TIME)

Vlad King (haven’t seen his dad skills in action much, but according to his profile he’s nicer to his kids than Aizawa is. okay but DID HE NEARLY MAKE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE FOR THEM though. because Aizawa did. 85/100)

Present Mic (not a dad. is at best a Weird Uncle. 70/100)

Jirou’s Dad (I forgot about him too lol. he’s a wacky dad who likes to rock and roll! he tried to be a Stern Dad to impress All Might and Aizawa but failed miserably. took his wife’s last name!! so secure in his own masculinity. wants his daughter to live her best life and follow her passions. 93/100. he’s fucking great)

Alright just finished season one of My Hero Academia (Boku No Hero Academia) and heres my thoughts

I like it, i’m not like super invested? But people have said that season 2 is better than season 1 so i’m down to keep going. The world is super interesting and there seems to be like limitless directions for new powers and abilities. I’m glad everyone seems to have a few things they can do and no one is really a one trick pony, even Izuku’s main asset is really his studying and strategy which I think is a lot more interesting than just a big smash anyways. Bakugo seems like he has the most potential for growth so i’m interested to see how he changes, and though right now Izuku is a bit bland I think he has a lot of places to go. He only seems bland to me because he’s sort of doing the same thing over and over again which is alright. You know like, struggle, get overwhelmed, cry, steel himself, fight back no matter the consequences, get super hurt, get saved, cry again. But to be honest even saving that I do really love him, hes adorable and has a great spirit, I love his determination even in the face of overwhelming odds, which is what All Might thinks of him. So i’m basically on the same page as All Might which is this little fanboy really has something in him but he has a lot to learn. 

Season one didnt have too much with Todoroki but he seems interesting too, very strong at least but I bet from how much the fandom loves him he gets some more backstory later. Kirishima is a badass enthusiastic shark boy and I like him, but I’m not too hopeful he’s gonna have a lot of spotlights (the ones i like never do lol). EraserHead is a motherfuckin badass holy shit i was whatever about him then the big fight at the end of season one happened and i love him now. Hopefully he doesnt die and if he does i hope its cool at least. Also who the fuck was sick ass cowboy in the very last episode with the sick as hell outfit and the sharpshooter shots he was so cool hes like the coolest teacher. I like Thirteen too. All Mights cool but i prefer him when hes weak or pissed off and big. 

I want the grape to die, Frog is cute I like her I can see why people like her, the pink girl like barely talked and I think she drops slime? She didnt get a lot of air time. Iida is a very standard character for anime, like the “needs to loosen up” super obsessed with honor and family tradition and school and respect with not too much to distinguish him, but his heroic aspect to that traditional character makes him more endearing and I want to see him grow more past that. 

The designs are VERY cool I am so into them, even the minor villains and even in some CROWD shots you get this incredibly diverse world with all these mutations and rules and outfit designs and all sorts of stuff. the Major villains look COOL as FUCK and some of the hero designs are so RAD. Some of them, i like dekus (without the mask obviously I think that changed though based on the episode thumbnails) but some other ones are whatever. Like uh, the pink girls aerobics outfit whats up with that. 

Animation is pretty okay, and in the fight scenes, at least Eraser Heads it was very dynamic and super cool. Major complaint is honestly just a complaint about how Manga is written and subsequently their anime adaptations, which is the general feeling that you could tune in at literally any moment and understand whats happening and while thats GREAT for a weekly aired show or when you just walk into the room it is SO ANNOYING to have every single character  be like “This is exactly whats happening in very specific detail, even including some things I logically wouldnt really know, and very deliberately highlighting the thing that I dont know. Now im going to do something within two seconds of animation, then spend ten seconds explaining it because this is what i did and how i did it and why i did it and what im doing next OH HO hero is that so? because you didnt think of THIS which is what I’M going to do and heres how i planned around it and an exact description of what just happened and how I anticipated all of that, OH HO VILLAIN but did you consider THIS thing that I JUST DID and that i accomplished because of THIS ability and this duration and exploitation of your plan you just listed?? Here let me explain it again” 

like oh my god oh my god please stop just actually fight for ten consecutive seconds without explaining yourselves dont justify EVERY PUNCH but you know all animes do that really. 

so overall, i like it, and i will watch season 2 but im not super sold on it. People say season 2 has more of a hook though which I’m hoping is true cause I really want to like this show it seems to have a lot of places it can go and some great opening for those classic incredibly awesome moments, you know the ones that make your arm hairs stand up and you’re GLUED to the screen, i really want that. I think i had one moment of that when eraserhead jumped into action that was the one time i was like OH FUCK
