Summary: Your father invites a work friend to the neighbourhood barbecue.
Characters: Nick Fowler (Dad’s friend trope)
As per usual, I humbly request your thoughts! Reblogs are always appreciated and welcomed, not only do I see them easier but it lets other people see my work. I will do my best to answer all I can. I’m trying to get better at keeping up so thanks everyone for staying with me <3
Your feedback will help in this and future works (and WiPs, I haven’t forgotten those!) Asking for more or putting ‘part 2?’ is not feedback.
Love you all. You are appreciated and your are worthy. Treat yourself with care. 💖
You tug at the skirt. No one should see that much of your thighs. You do your best not to notice them. Ugh. It's going to be the first thing he sees...
You spin around nervously. What are you doing? You're going to get in so much trouble. No! You're twenty-one. You're grown. You've never gone out and just had fun. You do everything your dad says. This is the one thing that's just for you. Nick is that one thing.
Your heart flutters. You want badly to run across to the bathroom and check your reflection in the big mirror but you're too scared. You're still building up your courage for the inevitable; sneaking out.
You open your phone camera and flip it. You face it to yourself and angle it on your dresser. You pose and twist, trying to make the clothes cover more.
The panties ride up again. You shove your hands up the skirt to adjust them. It's annoying. That and the way your chest feels ready to spill out of the bra.
You give up and close the camera. Ooof. You think it's okay. You tried extra hard on your hair and you even opened up the makeup your aunt sent you two years ago for Christmas. You haven't seen Marnie since you were eight. Your dad doesn't like her.
You watched a few tutorials. You didn't try anything with a lot. Just some liner, mascara, and lip shine. Enough to add just a little more than usual.
What if you look stupid? You swing between insecurity and anticipation. When you think of Nick, you think of what he told you to do. And how you did it! It felt amazing. You wonder if he'll want to do it himself. You giggle without filter.
Your phone vibes. It's him!
'Honesty?' His message challenges.
You reply, 'always.'
'Good girl.' The first message has you holding your breath. 'You like this?' The second one makes you blow it out.
The third almost has you choking. It's a picture of him.
He has a pair of dark red slacks on and a tight black short with a little shine and little golden emblems embroidered into it. The top three buttons are undone. You can see a hint of his muscles as he stands with one hip cocked and his hands casually in his pocket. He has his gold chain and watch, and bracelet to match. The metal on his dark shoes match.
And his hair. It's perfectly styled and his beard looks darker despite the patch of silver on his chin. He's just so handsome. How could he want you?
'I like it!' You add the exclamation as an afterthought.
You stop and look down. You won't look good with him. You can't compare.
You check his reply as it buzzes. 'Just like?'
You blink. You type 'love' then tap the suggested heart emoji instead. You hit send and bite your lip. He sends back an emoji in turn; the one blowing a kiss. Wow.
'Be there soon. You ready for me, princess?'
You shiver. 'Ready'.
'Good girl.' He sends back.
You smile. It feels nice to have someone tell you you're doing something right. You get good marks but that's not the same. Professors don't care that much.
You pace. You can't stay still. You haven't for the last hour. You're really going to do this.
You're dizzy from walking in circles. When the phone vibrates, you nearly drop it. The last thing you need is to draw attention.
'Here and waiting. At the corner, princess.'
You look at the door. This is it. Not a sound.
You grab the shoes and tuck your phone away in your purse. It's beige and boring but all you have. You listen at the door. You can hear Austin's bass speakers as he plays his video games. The noise will offer cover.
You hope.
You ease the door on its hinges. You tiptoe out and inch it shut. Light shines beneath your father's bedroom door. You keep your eye on it as you sneak towards the stairs.
You take each step cautiously. Every creak makes you wince. At the bottom you wait. No one comes after you. No one hollers for you to go back to your room.
You approach the front door and open the console beside it. You punch in the code to disarm it. If you're dad knew... the beep of each push makes your insides knot, not the way that Nick does.
The screen flashes blue. You're free. For a little.
You go out into the night and shiver. You go to the bottom step and put on the heels. They're just high enough to make you wobbly.
You spot Nick's car. You head for it, biding your anxiety as your chest bubbles with excitement. Your thighs tingle as he waves through the windshield. You can't help but think of the phone call and the way you whined his name.
The door clicks as you near. You get in but can't look at him. All you can think of is what you did. The way you touched yourself.
"Hey, princess. Where's my kiss?" He purrs.
"Kiss?" You squeak and make yourself look at him.
He grins. "Been away so long. Think I earned it."
"Oh, um..." you murmur. "Sure, but..."
"But?" He echoes.
"Not like... I'm not..." You cover your face in embarrassment. "I never... did it before."
Your voice is smothered by your palms but you know he heard. Your skin is on fire. He may as well just let you sneak back home, right then and there.
"Relax," he shifts in his seat and grips your wrists. His hands feel so big. "Hey, princess, that's just fine by me." He pulls your hands down and you stare at his neck. The shadows gather in the crook of his collarbone. "You just let me show you how, then you'll know exactly what to do."
He moves your hands down to your lap and lets your wrists go. You quickly twine your fingers through each other. You're trembling as he frames your face with his hands; thumbs stretched you your temples, fingers splayed across your skull. He leans over the space between your seats and stops only a few inches away. His thumbs caress your hairline.
"You look so good, baby, but you'd look even better if you looked at me," he rasps.
Your eyes flick up. The faint light of the streetlight reflects off the hood and paints his features in shadow and pale yellow. He smirks and leans in even closer.
His nose brushes yours. "Princess, relax. You gotta relax."
You try. He tilts your head back and brushes the tip of his nose against yours. He exhales and it wafts over you. You can smell his cologne. His lips touch yours lightly and a low growl rolls up his throat.
He presses his mouth to yours. Your eyes widen then you squeeze them shut. He hums as he kisses you and his tongue swipes along your lips. You flinch and lets you part, but keeps you close.
"I got it, princess. You're shy. We can take it slow. We can work on more as we go."
You gulp. "Okay," you wisp.
"Okay," he agrees.
His hands linger on you for a moment, then he slowly peels them away from you. He sits back in his seat and shifts again. He reaches down to tug on his belt. Maybe his shirt is caught.
"Alright, baby, as much as I'd like to keep you all to myself, I promised you a date," he switches gears and grips the wheel. "I can feel the tension in you. You need a drink."
"Oh, I don't..."
"Sweet thing like you doesn't drink, I know. But you can have one. With me, huh?" He drives past your dad's house and you shrink down. "You know, I just want to treat you right. I wanna give you all the nice things." He slows at the corner and looks over at you. "Show you off," he reaches over to pet your head. "Whew, look at you, princess. You look spectacular."
"I... do?"
"Course you do. You look tasty." He growls. "How about me? I do good? Am I everything you thought of earlier-"
"Nick," you gasp.
"You don't gotta be shy like that. You're only doing what everyone does. Nothing wrong with getting to know yourself." He assures. "Make it easier for you to get to know me."
"Um, yeah," you rub the side of your neck.
"Relax," he commands again and rests his hand on your leg. The sudden warmth makes you wince. He squeezes. "You sit back. Let me do the driving."
"Alright." You utter.
He drives on. His hand stays on your leg like a vice. His fingertips dip into your soft flesh and knead, then release and caress you. His touch sends electricity through to your core.
When he slows again, you look up at the blue light of the marque. The cursive letters mark the luxe looking business. A martini bar. You're not sure how it's different from a normal bar. You've been to neither.
"Don't you move," he taps your knee and finally pulls his hand away.
You obey. You don't know if you have the strength or courage to leave the car. He comes around to the passenger side and opens the door. He offers his hand. You take it.
He pulls you out of the car and you stumble on the heels. You crash into him and he chuckles as he steadies you. He squeezes your hip, his fingers poking into the soft cushion along your bum.
"Careful. Can't have you messing up that pretty face," he brings his knuckles up under your chin. "Baby, turn this way." He moves you with him and the streetlight close by shines down on you. "Damn, you look delicious."
"Nick."
"Nick." He enunciates sharply. "You say my name when you think I'm wrong."
"No--"
"No... princess, I never want to hear you say that. Got me?"
You stare up at him. His tone sinks like a stone down to your stomach. You nod against his hand. "Yes, okay."
"Good girl," he drops his hand and grabs yours. "Come on. I'm thirsty."
He struts forward, tugging you with him.
You place your feet carefully, focusing on not tripping. You must look ridiculous. He opens the door and lets you go, nudging you in ahead of him. A woman within greets you, all dressed in skin-tight black.
"Mr. Fowler," she greets. "Bar or table."
"Bar's fine," he answers as he stretches his arm around you and clasps onto your hip.
"Yes, sir."
She steps past you and beckons you onward. She leads you into a room swathed in violet light, a bar lit with white lights under the trim, and glasses lining the wall behind it. Nick walks you up to it and points to a tall stool. He helps you up and leans his hand on your lower back.
"Thanks, Sienna."
"Of course, sir." She backs up and spins, strutting back to resume her perch near the door.
Nick claims the stool next to you, sitting sideways to face you. He grabs the small folder standing on the bar top. He leans in and shows you.
"Gin or vodka?" He asks. You stare at the list of brands and shrug. He chuckles. "You don't know?"
"I'm sorry," you wring your hands anxiously.
"Sorry for what? That's alright. I'll pick for you."
"Okay, thank you," you say.
"You're so sweet, princess. Too sweet." He turns to face the bar and leans over so his arm rests against yours. He peruses the menu as you swelter in his presence. "Gin, sophisticated. How about a cherry for garnish? You like cherries."
"Um, sounds alright."
"You got cherry gelato, remember?"
"Yeah, I do..." you squint at the menu.
"Think I'll get a cherry too. I'm in the mood." He drawls.
You look around the bar. There are other men in slacks and jackets. Men with pretty women across from them and a glint in their eyes. Men as confident as Nick but you can't compare to the women.
"What're you looking sad for?" He runs his hand up your back, his fingers stoking a chill.
"Sad? I'm not... I'm...nervous."
"Ah, princess. Don't be. You're with me." He kisses your temple and you can't help but smile. "That means I look after you."
"Thank you, I, er..."
"Mm, mm, didn't I say those would fit you perfectly?" He runs his other hand along the edge of your skirt.
"You did."
"And they do."
"Thank you." You say again.
"No, thank you for being so gorgeous, baby." He sniffs and pulls his hand away from your thigh. "Let's get drinks before I lose all self-control."

The Rise of Keyboard Warriors
What’s something most people don’t understand?
Ever wonder why some people are so bold online but wouldn't say a peep in person? Enter the rise of keyboard warriors—a curious breed of internet users who turn every comment section into their personal battleground. Hiding behind screens, they dish out criticism, stir up arguments, and act like their words have no consequences. But here's the thing: their actions aren't just harmless venting. From spreading misinformation to fuelling toxicity, keyboard warriors are leaving a mark on digital spaces and not the good kind. If you've ever found yourself tangled in one of their threads, you know exactly what I mean. Let’s untangle the mess they’re leaving behind.

A keyboard warrior is characterised by their tendency to engage in combative or confrontational exchanges on the internet, typically behind the mask of anonymity. Here’s what typically defines them:
What Is a Keyboard Warrior?
If you’ve spent even five minutes in a heated online comment section, chances are you’ve encountered a keyboard warrior. These individuals eagerly wade into digital debates armed with sharp words and click-ready snark. But what drives them to type with such intensity? Let’s break it all down: their traits, their love for anonymity, and why certain platforms seem to provide them with the perfect stage to thrive.
Definition and Characteristics
Anonymity: The cloak of anonymity empowers keyboard warriors to express thoughts they may never voice in person. This lack of visibility emboldens them to provoke, insult, or attack others without fear of repercussion.
Aggression: They thrive on conflict, often escalating debates or creating hostility. Whether it’s political arguments, hot-topic debates, or personal criticisms, a keyboard warrior will jump in.
Lack of Accountability: Unlike real-world confrontations, virtual disagreements rarely carry real consequences. Keyboard warriors take full advantage of this safety net, feeling invincible behind their screens.
The rise of keyboard warriors aren’t just fuelled by caffeine and Wi-Fi—they thrive on drama and negativity. Psychologically speaking, they often exhibit tendencies like impulsiveness or a need for validation. Many of them relish stirring the pot, finding satisfaction in others reacting to their provocations. Why? Because reactions, even negative ones, feel a lot like winning online—like collecting trophies on a bad reality show.

Origins of the Term
The origins of the term "keyboard warrior" reveal how technology has shaped social interactions. In China, the phrase "jiànpánxiá" emerged as early as the 2000s to describe individuals who used their keyboards as weapons of verbal combat. Originally, it was a tongue-in-cheek label for people who engaged in debates or criticism online but rarely acted on issues in real life.
Globally, the term gained momentum with the explosion of social media platforms and internet forums in the 2010s. The anonymity and reach offered by digital platforms gave rise to a new breed of internet users who could express strong, unfiltered opinions. The term soon became a catch-all label for those actively critiquing, combating, or trolling from behind a screen.
According to sources like the Cambridge Dictionary, the term reflects the irony of exerting influence through online spaces while often being disconnected from the real-world consequences of their words. Tools like comment sections, anonymous forums, and social media posts added fuel to its popularity.
For example, China Media Project explains how Chinese internet users embraced this term in the context of activism and criticism within controlled online environments. As it migrated to Western culture, it broadened into general use, often describing antagonistic behaviour in any online community.
Psychological Factors Behind Keyboard Warrior Behaviour
If you've ever wondered why some people transform into virtual gladiators the moment they log on, you're not alone. There's a fascinating psychological dynamic at play that explains this drastic shift in behaviour. To truly understand the rise of keyboard warriors, we need to peek behind the digital curtain and examine how the online world prompts them to act in ways they probably wouldn’t dare to offline.
The Anonymity Factor
The anonymity provided by the internet is one of the most influential factors behind keyboard warrior behaviour. It allows users to hide behind usernames or avatars, stripping away real-world accountability. This psychological layer of invisibility can disconnect people from the emotional consequences of their words. Without the fear of judgment, individuals often feel emboldened to express opinions or criticisms far more aggressively than they would in person.
Research has shown that anonymity reduces self-censorship by providing a sense of detachment from one's actions. For example, the concept of the online disinhibition effect explains why individuals express themselves more freely or exhibit unexpected antisocial behaviours under the veil of anonymity. When users believe they won’t face repercussions, inhibitions drop, making it easier to mock, criticise, or even attack others.
This cloak of invisibility becomes part of what psychologists refer to as moral disengagement. It’s a fancy way of saying people separate their actions from the usual ethical rules. Without real accountability, online forums become war zones for their words. Explore more about this psychological phenomenon in this insightful breakdown.

Validation and Attention Seeking
Many keyboard warriors are driven by a deep-seated need for validation and recognition. In a digital world where likes, shares, and comments equate to social approval, people often look for ways to stand out. Controversial remarks or antagonistic behaviour can be an easy way to command attention.
Aggressive or extreme comments tend to provoke reactions, whether positive or negative. This is particularly appealing for individuals who feel unseen or unimportant offline. When a remark garners dozens—or hundreds—of replies, it provides instant gratification, feeding a desire for relevance. Some keyboard warriors may even chase viral moments, knowing divisive statements elicit more engagement than neutral or polite conversations—a phenomenon amplified by algorithms.
Psychologists suggest this validation-seeking mindset stems from underlying self-esteem issues. For those who feel overlooked in everyday life, online platforms offer a stage where their words can command power and create ripples far and wide, even if through hostility.
To read more about the role of attention-seeking behaviors in online interactions, see this detailed psychological analysis.
Empowerment Through Digital Distance
The physical separation between users in online interactions also plays a pivotal role in the rise of keyboard warrior behaviour. Face-to-face conversations incorporate body language, tone, and immediate feedback, which are critical for setting boundaries and evoking empathy. Online, these crucial human interactions are stripped away, creating a distance that minimises accountability.
For keyboard warriors, this lack of proximity offers an illusion of power. Knowing there's no immediate personal risk—such as confrontation or social embarrassment—they feel free to say what they'd typically suppress. This isn’t just boldness; it’s a cultivated sense of superiority fostered by an environment where their words can't physically harm their own social standing.
Additionally, the inability to see the emotional impact of words on others fuels this dissociation. Without seeing tears shed or the anger on someone’s face, it’s easier for a person to dehumanise their target, focusing instead on the gratification of winning an argument.
If you’re interested in how digital distance creates this perception of safety, this article dives deeper into the psychology of online aggression.
These psychological triggers—anonymity, validation, and perceived safety from distance—combine to form the perfect storm fueling keyboard warrior behaviour. Understanding these factors helps us decode their actions and find better ways to respond thoughtfully.
The Impact of Keyboard Warriors on Society
Keyboard warriors are a growing influence on how people communicate, share information, and engage with each other online. Their behaviour shapes social norms, affects mental well-being, and even threatens the accuracy of the information people use to make decisions. This section examines three key areas where keyboard warriors leave their mark.
Polarisation of Opinions

Keyboard warriors amplify divides in both social and political discussions by encouraging hostility and aggressive rhetoric. Instead of contributing to meaningful conversations, they often push opposing sides further apart. In heated debates, their inflammatory comments act like gasoline on a fire, discouraging thoughtful dialogue and fostering "us versus them" mentalities.
One clear consequence is the deepening of political polarisation. In public forums or even under news articles, keyboard warriors resort to insults, sarcasm, and name-calling, erasing any chance for measured responses. This behaviour can intimidate others, especially those with moderate views, leaving the online space to fringes on both ends of an argument. This facilitates a downward spiral: conversations become extreme arguments where the loudest—or most abrasive—voice seems to "win".
Studies found in articles like this one on societal divides highlight how these behaviours impact real-life rhetoric too. When online environments normalise extreme opinions, the effects can influence offline community dynamics, reinforcing echo chambers and perpetuating hostility.
Spread of Misinformation
Keyboard warriors don’t just engage in heated debates—they are often responsible for the rapid spread of unverified claims or outright falsehoods. The anonymity and immediacy of online interactions allow rumors or clickbait headlines to gain traction before any critical fact-checking occurs. Through posts, comments, and shares, these messages ripple far and wide, reaching audiences who may lack the tools to judge the credibility of such information.
False claims regarding health, politics, or even science have serious implications. For example, during global crises like pandemics, misinformation about treatments or public health guidance spreads quickly. A study on social media trends found that polarising commentary from online users added confusion surrounding available facts. Articles such as this one on mental health misinformation highlight how unchecked claims can even deter people from seeking proper care.
Furthermore, keyboard warriors rarely feel accountable for propagating these narratives. After all, not much is required beyond a quick share or retweet. For those reading such posts, discerning fact from fiction requires effort that many skip, leaving harmful misinformation to thrive.
Mental Health Consequences
Victims of keyboard warriors face real and lasting consequences, particularly in the area of mental health. Endless streams of negative comments, personal attacks, or relentless trolling can leave individuals feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or even depressed. For some, these online experiences escalate into harassment, which can make seeking help difficult when they feel invisible or unsupported.
If you’ve ever felt drained after a difficult online exchange, picture that multiplied exponentially for someone targeted by relentless harassment. Victims might second-guess their every post, delete their online presence, or even suffer from low self-esteem due to the emotional toll.
The impact extends further: individuals within marginalised groups disproportionately face online abuse. These experiences can magnify feelings of isolation, making access to mental health resources critical. Articles like this one from the APA emphasise the urgency of addressing how misinformation and hostility online converge to harm mental well-being.

The ripple effects of keyboard warriors go far beyond the screens they hide behind, impacting both individual users and society at large. Their actions highlight ongoing challenges surrounding empathy, accountability, and truth in digital spaces. By understanding the harm caused by their behaviour, we can build better tools and norms for online engagement.
Legal Ramifications and Laws in Australia
Keyboard warriors often operate under the assumption that online anonymity protects them from legal consequences. However, in Australia, the law says otherwise. Misusing the digital realm to bully or harm others can lead to significant legal repercussions. To help you better understand this, we’ll explore Australian laws addressing cyberbullying and defamation, as well as resources available to those who are affected.
Cyberbullying and Defamation Laws
In Australia, the legal framework is clear: harmful online behaviour is unacceptable and can lead to serious consequences. Key legislation applies to keyboard warrior behaviour, particularly in the realm of cyberbullying and defamation.
Cyberbullying: The act of using the internet or electronic devices to intimidate, harass, or attack another person can be classified under multiple laws. For instance:
Defamation: Keyboard warriors who post harmful or false statements online can also face defamation claims. Australia takes defamation seriously, with the Defamation Act 2005 playing a central role. According to this law:
Understanding these legal parameters highlights an important point for anyone engaging in toxic online behaviour: being behind a screen doesn’t shield you from accountability.
Support Resources and Hotlines
For those affected by online harassment or defamation, Australian organisations provide a range of support services. Whether you’re processing emotional trauma or seeking legal help, these resources are invaluable.
Lifeline (13 11 14): Lifeline offers 24/7 crisis support for anyone in distress. They also provide trained counselors to help manage the emotional challenges that come with sustained online harassment. Visit Lifeline for more details.
eSafety Commissioner: This government body offers resources and pathways to report online abuse. Their platform includes educational tools, complaint escalation services, and programs for prevention and recovery. They work actively to remove harmful content from websites and social media. If you're unsure where to begin, these organisations offer immediate assistance while guiding you toward long-term solutions. Remember, the law and support networks are on your side when dealing with the toxic actions of keyboard warriors.
Dealing with Keyboard Warriors: Practical Strategies
Keyboard warriors thrive on provoking reactions, but that doesn’t mean you have to fall into their trap. Handling this type of online behaviour effectively requires a combination of strategies to protect yourself and maintain your peace of mind. Below are several approaches you can implement to deal with and minimise their negative influence.
Recognise and Ignore
One of the most effective ways to deal with keyboard warriors is simple: don’t engage. Many thrive on the reaction they get from their targets. Whether they're picking fights or making inflammatory comments, their goal is often to provoke an emotional response. Recognising their behaviour for what it is—a pursuit of attention—allows you to take the control back.
Here are some tips to keep in mind:
Don’t take it personally: Remember, the keyboard warrior’s actions often come from their own frustration or insecurities.
Pause before responding: Often, walking away for a moment helps you regain perspective and avoid escalating the situation.
Mute or block if necessary: Social media platforms have tools to help you avoid seeing their content entirely.
Ignoring provocations isn't a sign of weakness—it’s a powerful way to maintain your mental peace. For those needing more tips, check out this guide with practical advice on dealing with keyboard warriors.
Utilising Reporting Mechanisms
Most platforms have incorporated tools to handle abusive behaviour, yet many users don’t take full advantage of them. Reporting harmful content not only protects you but can ensure that others on the platform steer clear of abusive individuals as well.
Here’s how you can use platform mechanisms effectively:
Familiarise yourself with policies: Each platform has guidelines detailing what constitutes inappropriate behavior. Learn the specific steps to report content or users.
Screenshots as evidence: Before reporting, take screenshots of the problematic comments as platforms might request evidence. This is vital for cases of harassment or threats.
Report and block: Use the "Report" feature to raise the issue directly with the platform. Once reported, blocking the user prevents them from contacting you again.
If you’re unsure how to proceed, resources such as the Online Harassment Field Manual provide step-by-step instructions for reporting abusive content on various platforms.
Seek Support When Needed
Dealing with prolonged online harassment can be emotionally taxing. In some cases, it may be helpful to lean on your social or professional communities for support. You don't have to face these challenges alone.
Consider these steps:
Talk to someone you trust: Share your experiences with close friends or loved ones. Venting can provide relief and help validate your emotions.
Join online communities: Various forums and groups offer advice and solidarity, especially for those affected by online abuse.
Access professional support: If the harassment has escalated or affected your mental well-being, contact specialised services for assistance.
For those in need of reporting options or support, Report Harmful Content is an excellent resource for removing abusive or harmful material from online platforms.

By applying these strategies, you can regain confidence in managing online interactions. It’s important to remember that you have the right to protect your digital space and mental well-being from undesired negativity.
Promoting Digital Civility
How do we change the tone of online behaviour? By fostering a culture of respect and kindness through educational initiatives and awareness campaigns. It’s time for the internet’s equivalent of a manners lesson.
Digital civility campaigns: Organisations like Microsoft’s "Power of Zero" campaign are creating programs aimed at teaching kids empathy and responsible online behaviour at an early age.
Online training courses: Schools, companies, and community groups can use short courses to teach media literacy and respectful communication. Think of it as digital CPR—everyone needs a basic skillset to navigate conflict healthily.
Public endorsements from influencers: Imagine your favourite celebrities openly promoting empathy and civil engagement online. These endorsements can shape behaviour, especially for younger audiences (learn more ideas here).
Golden rule reminders: “Treat others the way you want to be treated” is a timeless lesson that still applies—online or off. Campaigns emphasising this ethos could shift how we approach virtual interactions.
In-app prompts to encourage thoughtfulness: Before users hit “submit” on a controversial comment, platforms could add pop-up reminders like, “Would you say this to someone face-to-face?”
Much like teaching toddlers to share toys, promoting digital civility requires patience, strategy, and a willingness to take the lead. The internet doesn’t have to feel like a constant shouting match; with the right steps, we can make it a more respectful and enjoyable space for everyone.
Conclusion
Keyboard warriors may never completely disappear, but the way we interact online can always improve. Whether it’s setting firmer personal boundaries, advocating for better moderation, or fostering kindness in digital spaces, everyone plays a role in combating the chaos.
Removing the fuel that feeds these anonymous warriors attention, makes an immediate impact. Platforms too, must step up with tighter controls and smarter tools, ensuring accountability is enforced consistently.
A healthier internet isn’t just wishful thinking—it’s a necessary step for preserving constructive dialogue and mutual respect in digital spaces. So, the next time you encounter a comment troll, remember this: disengage, redirect, and protect your peace. Change begins with you.

announcement #826363 + blog recs
yall are probably sick of me repeating myself seventy times but hopefully this is my last announcement/update post for a while!!
as of last night 🔥🕺🏻 i have decided i want to become a try hard for one of my units and try to get a placement which is rather competitive, therefore i will definitely be posting less until exam season is over (in 2-3 weeks time)! (i will probably regret trying)
i will also then have to spend extra time studying 🤓 for the following exams so i don’t leave the page blank and look like a dumbo 😿
this means that i DEFINITELY will NAWT be working on the last part to that fake dating au until after 🙃
i may still put out a smau every now and then, but i have decided to reblog some of my old posts/faves on days i don’t post so newer people can enjoy them <3 or just so i can reminisce idk
you guys can also check out some of my moots who post regularly and get your daily entertainment fix from them if you aren’t already familiar with them!!
moots who i interact with a lot 🫂👩❤️💋👩: @all-with-angel @bluukive @tojislovergirl (mostly smaus but they have some written work)
@madamechrissy (super mouthwatering written fics , highly recommended for gojo enjoyers) also jumpscared me when she back my lil ol blog 🫣
and some of my newer moots who i have yet to annoy on a regular basis 😗 @loveyislost @sluturu who i believe have a range of works (smau + others)
also yall can follow my side blog if you want which will just be a mix of my requests as an archive and fics i want to revisit <3 @coralsgrotto
don’t hate me for the tag plz🫰🏻🖖🏼

fic writer asks: 23, 29, 30!
(Yes, I am angling for a pic of Reggie!)
also including questions from other darling folks @nzchance @queermccoy @eidetictelekinetic @emphasisonthehomo thank you! ☺️
(6) When do you title your fics? Before you write them? As you write them? While posting to AO3 and that “Work Title” field is staring at you?
hm, sometimes a title clicks a chapter or two into writing, usually from my chill vibes playlist, but all too often i have a finished fic in front of me and i'm like "...shit" then i've got the ao3 post in one tab and wikiquote in the other. that happened with "an awful and dreary blank" and "got my head check by a jumbo jet" came close.
(7) Navigate to your complete list of works on AO3. What are your top 5 Additional Tags?
hurt/comfort, whump, hurt [character name], emotional hurt/comfort, major character injury. i have a niche okay!
(9) The two fandoms you’ve written the most have been suddenly crossed with each other! What AU are you writing?
elementary/9-1-1 let's gooo. i flipped a coin to decide which cast gets home court advantage and elementary won, so bucktommy are in new york for this thing going on with knicks (playoffs? idk). buck spies something going on outside the garden, jumps in to save the victim, and he succeeds, but the victim is weird and hostile to him in front of a hundred witnesses, and buck gets taken in for questioning the next day when the victim turns up dead.
sherlock & joan take an interest in the case because bell tells them about how their prime suspect is a puppy of a guy with a decorated history as an la firefighter. bell knows about some of this because tommy came to the precinct like what the fuck are you people doing this man flays himself when he hurts someone's feelings, he's not a murderer. joan looks at the victim's pocket square and clocks him as a diplomat from luxembourg or where tf ever, setting off an academic lecture about thread content from sherlock to bell that makes him roll his eyes. joanlock go down a rabbit hole while buck stays at the brownstone (the hotel banned him for being a possible murderer) and babysits arthur.
(12) Do you write in order, jump around the draft, or a mix? Something else?
i've seen my style described as dessert first. i virtually never write in order.
(21) Without getting into any discourse, just thinking as a writer approaching characters, would you ever write about your NOTP? If you did, do you think that would change how you feel about it? (If you’ve done this, how did it go?)
not as a main focus, but i've incorporated canon notps to explore ripple effects on the characters i'm actually writing about, how joan felt about mycroft, what people think about tommy and abby, etc. it doesn't make me suddenly positive about the pairing, but forcing it to be part of the world and the history of the characters helps nudge it into being more of a neutral thing.
(22) Do you have a fixed writing routine, or do you write when you have time? Is there a time of day when you prefer to write?
my routine is chaos. ideas flow through my brain and dry up so quickly that i basically just keep the app open on my phone constantly. for "the safety that's evaded me" i had a rough plan and for the first two weeks i was able to limit myself to a short burst once a day, closing the app when i had a scene or a decent chunk of one down. that was nice. i didn't fuss quite as much about editing and making it perfect.
(23) What is your #1 distraction when you’re trying to write? If it’s a pet, post a pic
herself regifer wrecks (no angling required. i will send you photos any time❤️)

(29) Have you ever actually remembered one of those 3am “I’ll remember it in the morning” ideas?
once or twice! usually when i write it down though it's choppy and doesn't flow anywhere near as perfectly as it did in my head. love brains!
(30) Finish this sentence with your fandom’s variation(s): No beta, we die like _________
i've seen "like buck did for 3 minutes and 17 seconds" but i propose "like bobby did. no really. i'm sad too but firedad is in the ground"

!!!! sure! :D i don't have much more drawings but i'll be sure to tag and share what i've thought of so far and for future posts :D (i'll use "#maeka's isat adventures" ! i also have another au where i put them into rain world so i'll share what doodles i have on that too on a separate post using a similar tag ^^ but anyways!)
this is maeka and their appearance in isat! (a wip, but mostly current) (if you wanna see more of her and not just this au, check out her toyhouse page :3)

more rambling under the read more :3 some things are subject to change as i keep thinking more and more about this au and it's really all a mess of thoughts but feel free to read!
so this isn't her normal outfit; she wears it partly as a cover-up. the jester hat hides her ears, but she doesn't like wearing it very often and they hate that they have to hide as much as they do, because of how they look in a world where it's unheard of.
speaking of! she knows where she is. she knows that this is the world of a video game, and it's one of their favorites, ever. somehow whisked away to dormont, vaugarde, just to help siffrin! and she's the one that's looping, and remembering. it's still tied to siffrin, but they don't remember it (at first). they have to find a way to get back home, but they need to make sure siffrin gets to the end, and doesn't believe it's the end.
they have to make sure they don't freak anyone out, they have to make sure they can remember how things go (because like siffrin, remembering things is not her strong suit. it's not tied to the loss of her home, she just has an awful memory unless things go the same for a very, very long time.) and sometimes. they mess up!
because she shares the job of "siffrin's guide" with loop, they're the one she interacts with the most. but even though they're her favorite character, she finds that loop isn't her favorite person to interact with. loop is untrustworthy of her, especially when she slips up and mentions that she knows how things are supposed to go, they know how the story ends and how to get there and who loop really is. loop doesn't believe it at first, but they don't have much time to talk because maeka hides themselves when siffrin comes along (some loops, she shows herself. sometimes, she doesn't. the first instance of them all meeting was maeka walking up to them at the favor tree, and they were both suspicious of her. she doesn't have any weapon, nor does she have any Craft. so they had to placate them by immediately telling them what they were here to do.) (and also, that first loop, loop had called siffrin over to the favor tree without realizing that he doesn't remember dying, he doesn't know he's looping, so they're stuck there awkwardly trying to go about their conversation until maeka showed up, and loop accuses them and says "so you're the reason why stardust doesn't remember the loops!" yadda yadda yadda.)
again, this might be all subject to change bc i'm just yapping and yapping at this point, but the thing is now that siffrin doesn't remember the loops, loop has to launch into a script of their own each time, loop still has to help siffrin while this weird cat person is there, knowing about them, knowing more than them, when that was their job and their job alone. so rightfully, they're a little pissed about that. they don't treat maeka respectfully as they should, and they end up clashing a lot more than expected. loop self-projects onto them, maeka shoots back while also still reassuring them that she doesn't hate them, and it's a constant back and forth until loop actually gets it in their head and they calm down about it and they can actually focus on the task at hand (aka keeping siffrin alive. having to remind them of what they need to do each loop does take a toll, but again, it's not forever. i'm thinking the loop that he starts remembering is the loop after they beat the king for the first time. maybe he even remembers all the loops before that, after.)
because maeka is powerless, she doesn't enter the House. she can't directly speak with or see siffrin either, so before they reconcile, she tells loop what to tell siffrin and only sometimes does loop actually listen. but again, that pisses loop off that they have to follow her instead, like why didn't the Universe give her their powers instead? why did they have to suffer here when it's not even their main job anymore? what's the reason they're still here? what even is the point?
maeka comes up with the idea to hold hands, and for her to match their breathing together so she can participate properly, too. you can guess how loop feels about that, but maeka just wants to help.
so really, it takes a long time for them to get to the king, because maeka keeps trying to skip ahead and loop doesn't want to listen, so siffrin keeps getting stuck. and having to tell siffrin the only way to restart is to die (touch the weird water floating around, they remember after the first time to Not do that) (and Again because of loop's pettiness, they outright distress siffrin with telling them they need to die, so let themselves get beat up by a sadness with no healing, good luck explaining that to your party and all that. aaaand maeka Hates that. because it's not something loop is thinking of clearly, or they are, but they just don't care because they want to get back at maeka for taking their place, and siffrin really doesn't need to suffer more than needed, especially when he can't remember in the first place, so they don't know! just because loop hates them both doesn't mean they can do that and be okay with it.) (and loop isn't okay with it. they regret it. they know siffrin deserves better but they themselves can't keep their own emotions in check with this know-it-all cat in the way. the one knows everything, but can't get in there and do it herself. it's a long journey ahead of them, and only once act 3 begins, does everything start to simmer down with siffrin remembering and getting that entire conversation over with, while maeka begins to freak out because y'know, kingquest. she doesn't want to let bonnie die. and she wants to do this without letting either of them know what happens, so it's kind of a mess.
i um. rambled on for way longer than i meant to lol like oooooops but i couldn't help it maeka is my baby and isat is one of my favorite games of all time and i Can't stop thinking about the implications of her just existing in that world and interacting with my two favorite characters ever augh
i might ramble more later in a separate post when i draw stuff idk but 🙇 enough for now lol thanks for reading all this way if you do!

hi guys. have this with no explanation except these drawings are about my fursona isekai'd into isat. thank u

and drawings i did the other day too

Artfight against @ejsuperstar ft. The Mad King and Chip. They're both so evil. I hope they have the most extravagant downfall of any onscreen villain.
This interaction is based on a little fic writing >:)
#For those who are reading the tags- Chip is ejsuperstar's Cookie Clicker OC. LIKE- COOKIE CLICKER. FROM DA GAME. IT'S FUCKING BRILLIANT.#Okay now to talk in the comments#first of all. The fic is literally so good. I had the privilege to read it uwu#These two are literally so evil. They just show it in different ways.#Bravus in intimidation and cunning And then Chip with his manipulation and deceit.#Also the “Magic” vs “Science” motif here is so 👀😤✨💅#i mean. Bravus is from medieval times so of course he thinks anything like what Chip has is magic. But ALSO Magic 100% is real in his world#I think it'd be neat to keep my human's slitted irises. They look human- but just slightly off to make anyone in your AU notice#forgive my human facial anatomy *cries*#the *Poof* is a reference to fairly odd parents. LMAO#I'll post the speedpaint later if ur down! Videos always take so long for them to upload here#The Mad King#I am so happy with how this turned out. Like seriously. Took me about 3 hours???? idk i need to check#hope you like it. *bonks you*#I love how Chip is still intimating with a fricking cookie in his hand. Man looks so silly#art#my art#chip#deltarune#deltarune chara timeline#cookie clicker#cookie clicker oc

actually incredibly funny to me that ranpos entire thing centres on how his intelligence is not because of an ability or any other great thing, its just him. hes entirely, completely, inarguably human. and Yet, when it comes to dazai, so many people are Desperate that there just Has to be another explanation. his intelligence cant just be that hes unusual, no it must be a marker of separation, of difference so great it disallows the reality of his humanity.
#dazai osamu#ranpo edogawa#bsd#sorry hating on main again. AND about to put 3 billion tags on this bc i have shit to say thats not well worded enough to be its own post#asgr cooking up shit about being that smart that young in places that dont accommodate it in a healthy way#(ranpo being disliked by adults bc hes smarter than them and dazai doing god knows what and then joining the mafia and directing it all#towards violence.) and then everyone only accepting it for ranpo but not for dazai is Crazyyy.#anyway. it leaves them Lonely which contributes to the inhuman feeling. FEEEELING!!! not reality#theyre going to feel beyond understanding bc their intelligence puts them ahead. theyre going to be easily bored bc things dont shock them#etcetcetc.#and then this is countered for both by ranpo finding fukuzawa who makes his own way to allow ranpo belief in his own humanity by#telling him hes Different in a Special Way rather than being some kind of monster by telling him that its all just an ability. (whether tha#is his best idea is. beside the point) whereas dazai has chuuya who doesnt need to be an intellectual match to surprise dazai and be#able to figure him out ('i know how you work' line in sb is fucking insane given the whole ln everyones like omg hes beyond understanding.)#theres still always gonna be moments where they feel Aside from humanity bc they dont think like normal people (hence the way dazai talks#abt humanity in dead apple. as fascinating and not worthless but still as distinct from himself and ranpo is 'im better than you'ing his#way through life.) but it IS just a feeling.#anyway!!! part of the reason their dynamic in particular is so sweet is bcccc ranpo is entirely human and hes that smart just by himself!!#and dazai tests it to check if its an ability but its NOT and you Can be intelligent in a way that seems impossible for human beings#and it doesnt disqualify you from humanity.#wahh#theres a lot of stories within bsd that work like this. investigating the things that make us feel outside of humanity#and then saying despite despite despite you will never be anything but. no matter how different you are you will always be at your core#a human being. and yet the fandom is OBSESSEDDDD with putting a bucket on their head and going SECRETLY A ROBOT! SECRETLY A LIVING ABILITY#SECRETLY AN ILLUSION THAT EVERYONES ALL SEEING!!!#like good god does it not get tiring#'dazai manipulated people too good this week. he knew too much info and is too good at things for a 15 yo so ive decided hes the book'#what the fuck are you saying

Told my friend I was planning to draw this & When I asked her why she immidiately deduced that Gaston was the one giving birth, she said (1: ive made related jokes b4, but two-) "you tend to punish men for their sins."
And we'll. Can't argue with that. Anyways, this meme:
Gaston please Beau was just born he hasn't had time to grow into his features yet... *
[Ref and rambling under cut]
Ref image:

(*Which Are mostly Gastons actually, just w/ Lefous height and build. (and even then, grown Beau has noticeably broader shoulders than Lefou lol))
(Srry This is the only real drawing of the lad I have but u get the vision)

The kid that Actually has mostly Lefou's features would probably be Birdy, who mostly just takes Gast's height & eye color
I would've added a mini comic bit of the girls saying stuff but I got lazy :P
#tbc Birdy is. a nickname. her name is Brigette#yes all the children have names & personalities. they are. like. genuine characters.#like unfortunately they are NOT just for the bit I care about them deeply they've existed for awhile now#so!! meet my gafou fankids!! let me know if you wanna know more abt them!! asks and whatnot r open!!#given up on trying to be cool on this website#batb#batb 1991#beauty and the beast#meme redraw#fanart#Gaston batb#gaston#lefou#gafou#technically.. with the implications... sakuatsu fic recs
ace-spec recs for @bbyboyakaashi
into the tides by ftld
completed | E | 16,657 words
“I’m not that into sex,” Sakusa says without regard for the public setting or the strangled noise that erupts from Atsumu’s throat. He hooks a finger through the handle of a delicately patterned teacup, arches an eyebrow, and waits. // this whole series >>> i'm love them
build me up by kromotriga
part 7/? | E | 37,100 words
Atsumu’s fingers involuntarily twitch as he types ‘strap on harness’ in the search bar of a favorite sex toy site while he waits, wondering what Kiyoomi has in store for him. He has his own toys he likes and is used to but he’s never seriously thought about the harness part before, about what a hypothetical partner might wear. Then Kiyoomi emerges from the bathroom and he doesn’t have to wonder anymore, phone slipping from his hand to be lost in the sheets. // fem omi fucks atsumu for most of this series, as she should <3
anytime, omi omi. by deliriious
completed | E | 2,156 words
what's better than fucking your boyfriend's thighs, or between his cheeks while he sleeps? kiyoomi thinks for a long moment. reaaally gives it some thought, before coming to an irrefutable conclusion. nothing, that's what. // consensual somno is like. catnip for me
lay me down by kromotriga
part 3/? | E | 13,563 words
It’s been almost six years since she’s last heard him say her given name. Atsumu may not need memories, experience become muscle become memory instead, but memories of standing huddled together in a deserted hallway after their last high school match still flood through her all the same. Sakusa— Kiyoomi had tenderly cradled her face as gentle thumbs wiped away tears of frustration, over Inarizaki's loss to Itachiyama, over Kiyoomi's rejection after months of what she’d thought was mutual romantic build-up. "I want to kiss you but I can't, yet," he'd whispered, knocking his sweaty forehead into hers. "The next time we meet I'll be different, but if you still want to I'll kiss you then as much as you want." With that promise Kiyoomi had reluctantly pulled away and Atsumu hadn't understood what he meant until he'd made news a few months later by joining his collegiate men's team. He may have missed her, as she did him, but that doesn’t mean he wants anything more than friendship now. Atsumu still reaches out slowly, his eyes following her movement, to lay a hand over Kiyoomi’s, fingers brushing his wrist bone where another pair of symmetrical moles stand out on his pale skin. “I missed you, too.” // skts reunion fics my beloved, they're everythingg
part 1 | part 2 | part 3
#sldkf all of these are just. them fucking <3#i truly don't think they're gonna be helpful for self-exploration but i vibe with them. but good luck anyways !#kinda broke my rec guidelines for this post but you can blame that on a lack of ace content. also i didn't feel like checking other ships#i think i sent you the first one before but shhhhh. also go read no fucking way by wrunic. i said it before but it's in my last rec list#if you notice 2 of these are by the same person..... what can i say i'm love their fics#whoops i need actual tags#haikyuu#miya atsumu#sakusa kiyoomi#sakuatsu#haikyuu fic recs#my recs
