Are we gonna start off each episode with the topic of beheading? We’re two for two.
So Sagiri actually wanted to become an executioner because she saw how perfectly her father made his cuts.. I don’t necessarily wanna call that cute but hurray for following in her father’s footsteps I guess?
Oh, good to see she’s not completely heartless about the whole process. Well, I imagine beheading others would instill fear, grief and other emotions into anyone and would probably take many attempts, or several years even, to not feel pain anymore while doing so.
Also, those lifeless bodies we saw in the OP/ED surrounding her now have context with them being her doubts, like right now as this red-haired man explains with the truth reflecting in her blade.
I shall never skip this OP by the way and yes I’m gonna comment about it each week. I heard the full version of it the other day and it’s just as lovely.
Ooohh finally getting little looks at some of our cast like Chobei, Yuzuriha, Nurugai and Tamiya. Same with some of the swordsmen with Shion, Fuchi, and Toma somewhere I’m sure.
All the criminals are throwing their rage at the shogun while Gabimaru is just over here complaining that he can’t breathe with that paper mask over his face.
This dude unrolls a certificate to show them the official pardon but it’s hilarious since none of the criminals can actually see it with their eyes covered.
Yuzuriha knows of our hollow man hm? & despite myself not knowing a thing a out her, I think her voice suits her.
SPEAKING OF VOICES, Gabimaru shares a va with Langa (sk8) and I dunno how it completely slipped my mind last week or how I didn’t pick up on it.
Eh so weird, that poor dude with the flowers blooming out of him is actually still alive?
I’m not entirely sure why, but Nurugai reminds me of Dororo? Maybe it’s the character design somehow.
Oh good lord, large tattoo man just got beheaded with no questions asked.

“Naturally, if your monitor dies, whether by accident or homocide, you’ll be beheaded.” Glad we mentioned that little bit. But if by some crazy chance they all die, then no one can behead the criminals, right?
“If your monitor isn’t with you, you won’t be allowed onto the return boat.” Oh good, I’m glad we’re answering all my questions right as they come up. So y’all can’t just kill them for funsies because I’m sure they were all just thinking that.
Ya know I was thinking that, there’s way too many criminals here right now and not enough asaemon to monitor them, of course they’re gonna fight for a spot. That and a lot of them just look like randomly placed characters.
Ahha, and looks like our bastard Chobei is gonna get a head start on reducing their numbers. And I know he doesn’t share a va with Bakugo, but that’s all I hear with him, just a little. I have heard him in other things but nothing I remember too clearly.
The fact they can all fight rather well with their hands tied is kinda impressive, I won’t lie about that.
Oh? I assume our main cast are those with these red seals. The special ones with great abilities.
Our man Gabimaru is actually quite the legend huh? Yet he hasn’t move an inch since coming here.. he’s so chill. I love it.
Not me somehow getting Nozel and Noelle vibes when this Eizen man tells Sagiri she isn’t suited for this kind of job. Go prove him wrong girl!
Not that I want her end Gabimaru’s life, but I hope our girl manages to get over her doubts..somehow.

Like Gabimaru last ep, I didn’t expect her to actually have emotions like this. It just didn’t seem like something an executioner would show ya know? So I’m happy we got a look inside her mind and past this time.
Ah so aside from our cast there’s seems to be a couple more criminals joining the party that I’m not familiar with.
Same with the other executioners too, but I finally spotted Toma and got a clearer look at Tenza!
“There is no danger.” Well that’s a blatant lie if I ever saw one.

ok so i will get to your other ask later bUT I SAW AN INVITATION TO SHARE MY IDEAS ABOUT THE DARK MOON BOYS HIDING OUT IN A TRAVELING CIRCUS AND BY GOD I WILL TAKE IT. anyways i imagine this happening pretty soon after the escape, where they do have a pretty good handle on their powers (they’ve had them since birth, anyway) but are still grappling with the vampire bit a little and just need to Sit for a while and Think without arousing either civilian or orphanage suspicions, which is really hard to do if you’re trying to brainwash people into letting you stay by their homes or hopping into a different barn every night. but when they see the tent of a traveling circus pop up on the outside of whatever town they’ve landed in, heli and jakah look at each other and just Know. it’s almost too easy.
a circus provides both a stable living situation but with Constant movement as it goes from town to town- gives them time to think without worrying about the orphanage finding them since they’re here today and gone tomorrow. and as for civilian suspicion, the circus is where all the (for lack of a better word) “freaks” go. the outcasts, people who are Different and ran away. either way, it makes for a more interesting act the freakier you are. so it’s safe, mostly
and for once, they’re not freaks. they’re just another circus act, weirdly normal. they’re so used to blending their powers with play and daily life it’s second nature- shion’s mesmerization plus heli’s telepathy makes for a good fortune teller stand (im imagining the kind of circus with like . a fair set up outside the tent with booths? one of those old-style ones). come to think of it the anti-grav would make shion a good tightrope walker and heli could learn the sword swallowing trick (to explain why he carries his mysterious big sword around all the time). noa can climb just about anything and can use his shadow powers to build a reputation as an escape artist (“you blink and he’s disappeared! vanished into the shadows!), solon’s got a special touch with animals so he teams up with the lion tamer, jakah and jaan have the classic super speed and super strength, and jino :D jino is the best fire-eater the circus has ever seen ! he does the “jump through the ring of fire” thing every show without fail and comes out grinning every time. and remember that thing we mentioned with the kitchens and jino scaring the shit out of someone by crab-walking in? probably bc he picked up some skills from the circus’s actual contortionist and enjoys using it still! i imagine the circus as a more peaceful era for them because for once their powers don’t put targets on their backs. BUT what if . what if that’s where they learn the hard lesson that just because someone has powers that doesn’t make them “one of us.” i have an idea of them living (relatively) happily at the circus and becoming closer to the crew, learning their stories and sharing some of their own, and getting close to someone particular who may have powers like them, but they end up being an informant and the orphanage shows up to drag the boys away, and in the battle they have to watch their beloved circus burn to the ground

YES YES GIMME. ik ive waited uhh,, *checks calender* FIVE DAYS to answer this but it still remains that i have been extremely excited to answer it whenever i finally got around to stopping forgetting about it.
this is so much!!! its SO MUCH and to be clear i mean that very very affectionately. im like that shark in the part of a fisherman's boat where they put all the fish they catch. a travelling circus would be SO PERFECT for them, especially early on, because like you said, its both a stable living situation AND provides constant movement, which is exactly what the vampires need to stay under the orphanage's radar. the brothers can actually SETTLE for once without having to worry about constantly having eyes on the back of their head (except, WHOOPS, the irony.. not that they know it yet). and, since its earlier on in their travelling days, maybe there not so accustomed to being on the run yet, and a consistent living situation is like a call home to them...
all the acts you came up with for them are so impeccably fitting-- shion and heli as fortune tellers! shion as a tightrope walker! jino as the circus's best fire-swallower/dancer YES!! and heli learning the sword-swallowing trick would be so neat (to be honest im still not entirely sure how that works LMAO). i can also picture shion as a trapeze swinger or silk aerialist because, again, assistance from his anti-grav powers would help him pull off those acts flawlessly. and maybe he and jino could do the jumping-through-a-ring-of-fire act together-- jino ignites the hoop, and shion uses his anti-gravity to jump through! aND YES JINO PICKING UP TECHNIQUES FROM THE CIRCUS'S CONTORTIONIST THATS SUCH A GOOD IDEA :0!!!
i have so many thoughts about the brothers just. LIVING in a travelling circus. like if its one of those ones where they travel from town to town in a procession of carriages, the brothers probably have their own caravan where they sleep, eat, get ready for shows, everything-- theyre all (or mostly at least) in different acts and usually different acts get sectioned off into different caravans, but because they're brothers they arranged to live together (and if the caravan provides a safe place for them to let loose with their powers in nobody but each others' presence, none of their colleagues have to know). i can imagine heli getting REALLY good with the little kids that come up to his fortune-telling booth wanting to know their future, leading to him developing a fondness for children far into HIS future (<//3). and i bet circus life helps prepare them for the lives they don't even know they're going to have yet: they get used to making friends and then leaving them, because they know they're just going to be moving to the next town in a week, anyway. they get used to acting like people they're not and putting up fronts-- and even though it's just for fun in the circus, even though they're playing characters in their acts, the knowledge certainly comes in handy.
now though youve got me thinking about the idea of an informant being planted in the circus by the orphanage... because on the one hand, it could just be a flat-out evil/antagonistic person meant to turn the boys over to the orphanage and teach them a "lesson" about never trusting people, but also... if it's someone that has powers like the brothers do, wouldnt they have to have been made by the orphanage, too? and, yeah, maybe by now the orphanage has figured out how to give fully-formed adults magical powers via pill or whatever so it's just one of their operatives given a power to make the brothers trust them, but i like making things way more complicated than they have to be, so.
maybe the plant was raised in the orphanage, just like the boys were, only a little later on-- maybe, by now, the orphanage hasn't figured out how to give adults powers, but they HAVE figured out how to give humans powers without it killing them. so, this is a person, probably intended to be nothing but an experiment/soldier since they were basically a baby-- except, unlike the brothers, they never escaped. they were raised and turned into this soldier and then, at a certain age, they were sent out to track down the seven escaped "failures". theyve never been in the real world before, not really- never known the taste of freedom, free will, uncontrolled action. of course, they still have to stay on track to complete their mission and they have to report back to the orphanage regularly, but... theyre on their own. who's to say they cant have a little fun while they're at it? they join a travelling circus at the approval of their orphanage superiors, because, for the same reasons the brothers think it's a good place for them to hide, its an equally good place to search for them: constantly on the move, undercover, and the perfect place to hide in plain sight, the informant can search for the escapees in every town they visit without arising suspicion-- only to be surprised when the escapees come to THEM. it's almost too good to be true.
they don't act yet, though-- because they don't know for sure that its them, they dont want to be wrong and mess it all up. so they wait, biding their time, watching the seven brothers and attempting to get close enough to them for them to slip up and reveal something. as things progress, the plant and the brothers get closer and closer, the brothers opening up more and more; really, they've all but said it outright, now, the informant should just report them and be done with it. but... they're so nice-- they don't seem dangerous at all. theyre hurt, although they never talk about it; they seem so scared, all the time, of everything. and... the informant's never had a home like this before. so they wait, and wait, until the seven brothers practically give themselves up and by that point it's unavoidable. the informant completes their mission: the orphanage comes, a fight happens, the circus burns to the ground. it's an utter disaster. but the informant can't help but feel a little happy when they hear that the brothers have evaded capture once again.
also, last thing i promise, this gives me the additional sad thought of the brothers crossing paths with a survivor from the circus years later. that's a memory-wipe none of them really recover from.

Thoughts on Higurashi Gou Ep19
OK this episode was actually just fucking with me by having Rika at a Western-style preppy boarding school drinking tea in a parlor and having debates with people. This level of concentrated Umineko content bait is going to literally kill me at some point.
Thoughts under the cut. [Plus even more Umineko stuff, but honestly who can even blame me at this point, lmao]
I don’t think I commented on it last week, partly because I was hoping we’d get the actual visuals for it in this episode, but the new ED theme is extremely good. I think I like it a lot more than the first one, but they’re both really good. I’m kinda biased though, since the new ED feels extremely Umineko-y, but still, it’s really good.
I’m kinda surprised that we still haven’t gotten the visuals for it yet. And instead of just having the ED theme play over the final scene of the episode or something, it was another round of having the credits roll over a black screen for the duration of the ED, which makes the continued lack of visuals really noticeable. I guess it’s possible that they just haven’t completed the animation for it yet, but I’m hoping that they’re holding back on it because something about the visuals for it is a spoiler for something that’ll happen in the next episode or two. And that makes me really curious to see what it might show, since at this point there’s only a narrow list of things that could probably be ‘spoilers’ for upcoming stuff in this arc.
Realistically I doubt it’d be on the level of straight up showing Umineko characters, but I’m probably still gonna get my hopes up anyway, lol.
At the very least, with how this episode brings us to 1987, and we know that Rika dies as a teenager in 1988, we’re rapidly approaching the point where everything goes to shit, and we already know that Satoko apparently got contacted by Oyashiro-sama, so honestly it wouldn’t be that strange for some kind of witch character to show up, even if maybe they’ll be presented in a somewhat abstract and indirect way.
Anyway, this episode went a long way to show the path of trauma that leads Satoko to initiating the new loop, but I think there’s going to be more going on in the next episode or so that really pushes her over the edge. Obviously she’s already in a downwards spiral because of Rika drifting away from her, and her being socially isolated all over again, but I don’t think this alone would make her go as far as trapping Rika in an endless torture loop.
I wonder if maybe Satoko is going to start getting directly bullied by the other girls at the school, rather than just being ostracized by them. It’d suck to see it happen, but it’d be the sort of thing that’d make her situation even worse than it is now. 
From what we heard here about how the school runs, I don’t think they’d directly expel Satoko for having low grades, but if she winds up slipping into the Special Class, it’d probably make her feel more and more like everything could fall apart for her at any moment, which could also make her way more volatile.
I’m pretty sure we already know that Rika ends up getting killed in 1988, and that’s how she got thrown into the new loop, so I’m curious to see how that ends up panning out. Satoko might just end up snapping and straight up killing her out of anger, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s some kind of horrible accident. With what Satoko was saying in this episode about wishing she could just have fun setting up traps around the school, I could see her setting up a situation that ends up getting Rika killed.
Either way, it feels like we’re on the brink of disaster, and I’d be surprised if it takes more than one more episode to show how everything falls apart and the loops start.
Which is also making me wonder how the arc as a whole will be paced out. In spite of being the longest arc in the show, it feels like there’s still a LOT that needs to be covered. We still need at least one more episode to conclude this big flashback sequence, then we’ll probably get some sort of flashback to show how the Gou question arcs played out in the background to solve those mysteries, and then we still have to go back to the end of Nekodamashi to follow up on that whole cliffhanger, and get into whatever the true ending of the show will be.
I still doubt that we’ll get a full second season, but I’m just not sure if five more episodes will be enough to do everything it needs to do.
At the very least, I’ve basically given up hope on Gou doing more than the bare minimum to touch upon Rena or Shion’s backstories at this point, lol.
I’m also still wondering what the ending will be like in the first place. Ideally everything would just work out fine and Rika and Satoko will talk things out and resolve everything peacefully after we return to Nekodamashi, but I’m feeling more and more like this will have a darker ending than that. Mostly because it really feels like this is barreling straight towards the ‘Bern/Lambda origin story’ route, and that just makes me feel like the ending will be really depressing and make it more clear why Bern is so messed up in Umineko.
And on that note, on top of it just being really nice teasing, it’s actually kinda neat to see Rika entering this sort of Western-style ‘high society’ life, since it goes a long way to clarify why Bern’s entire personality and aesthetic is the way it is. They never really ‘explained’ it in Umineko, aside from it just matching more with Umineko’s more Western-style setting, and in a lot of ways it feels like this ‘explanation’ was thought up way after Umineko was written anyway, but even as a retroactive explanation it’s still nice to see them show why Rika ends up that way. They haven’t shown exactly why she’s so bitter in Umineko, but at least now we know why she’s the sort of person who likes stuff like this.
In a lot of ways, everything about this whole arc and the St. Lucia’s stuff kinda feels like Ryukishi’s sort of clumsy way of directly tying together these loose threads between Higurashi and Umineko, and showing us exactly why Bern ends up the way she does. I kinda agree with the criticisms I’ve seen that Rika apparently idolizing high society upper-class life and seeing St Lucia’s of all places as Heaven on earth feels really forced, and I think that has a lot to do with what I said about how Ryukishi probably just designed Bern as a Western-style goth lolita because that fit Umineko’s setting more, and he’s only just now trying to go back and give an in-universe explanation for it via Gou. So for better or worse it kinda has this vibe of retconning parts of her character in order to brute-force this connection between the two series.
Though I can’t help but be OK with it, at least for now, since it just makes it feel like he’d only be this overt about it if he was actually setting up for something better that justified making up all this new story stuff just to contextualize Bern’s whole character in Umineko. It might just be his way of tying things together and he’s not setting up for anything, but it’d feel like a waste at this point if he’s not, considering how many people are already feeling like he’s messing with Rika’s character retroactively to make it all tie into Umineko. So it’d at least feel more justified if it’s actually setting up for something along the lines of an Umineko anime remake, even if that’s still probably just wishful thinking. 
Anyway, I think this episode is gonna cause lots of discourse about how people feel about both Rika and Satoko’s choices in this episode, but my stance right now is just that they’re both understandable, while also both being in the wrong in their own ways. Ultimately this just boils down to them not communicating with each other properly. I can see what people mean by Rika’s whole attitude here feeling out of character, but I can understand why she’s genuinely enjoying her new life, and honestly she’s always had major issues with not talking to people about things and just going with the flow, so I get why she’s not doing more to reach out to Satoko, especially since doing so would mean rocking the boat with her new friends who clearly all look down on Satoko.
And on the other side of things, I think Satoko’s whole side of things makes total sense, even though she’s also in the wrong for continuing to respond to trauma by bottling it all up and rejecting any help or communication that people offer her. That at least feels like a totally natural extension of her personality, especially when you think about how the current timeline is one where Teppei never came back to the village, and so she never had to have her whole character arc where she learns how to open up about her trauma to people and seek help. Also the end of the episode makes it feel pretty likely that this is going in the direction of her re-developing HS, which would go a long way to explain why she’d go into a full on downwards spiral, mentally. I highly doubt that she actually got completely cured for good, even if Hanyuu’s absence changed how the virus works.
Which also reminds me that we still haven’t heard anything about what happened to Satoshi, despite them talking about the virus more or less going away. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s past the point of no return, and learning about his fate might be one of the things that fully pushes Satoko over the edge.
Either way, I get why a lot of people don’t really like where this is all going, but I’m at least enjoying it for what it is [even though I’ve had to really readjust my expectations for it, lol]. But tbh at this point a big chunk of this is just me being hype about the pipe dream of a new Umineko anime, and if this ends up not leading to that, I’ll probably be a lot harsher on Gou in hindsight after it ends.

You know, I’ve seen a bunch of complaints about the lack of prominence of non-Rika and Satoko members of the Games Club in Gou, but... is there any reason for the other three to be prominent other than just because we want to see them?  Unlike Rika and Satoko, their character arcs are finished:
(Higurashi and also The World God Only Knows spoilers under the cut:)
- Keiichi’s arc is mostly learning to trust his friends, with a side of learning how to put his talents to use to to help his friends inside the system.  The former arc is completely resolved by the end of Tsumihoroboshi-hen (and the lesson sticks; Onidamashi-hen does him a bit dirty, but with Rika’s help he does remember), and the latter arc by the first half of Minagoroshi-hen (carried into Tataridamashi-hen).
- Rena’s arc is related to Keiichi’s: it’s okay to ask friends to help with big personal problems.  Again, this is resolved by the end of Tsumihoroboshi-hen (pending full answers for Onidamashi-hen - if H173 wasn’t involved there then Gou did her dirty).
- Mion, unlike any of the other Games Club members, doesn’t really have a character arc at all, as fitting the one character who never goes L5 in OG.  She basically starts off having already learned the lessons needed to escape Rule X and Rule Z of the OG loops (the former by personality, the latter by virtue of her position), and is functionally a static character whose role is to provide a safe space for other characters (the Club) and access to resources to help everyone escape June 1983.
The one exception here is the “who does Keiichi wind up with?” question, and I think it’s pretty clear from Gou that Ryukishi07 has no intention of ever providing a canon answer to that question.  I’m a little dubious about that from a characterization perspective (4-5 years is an awfully long time for teenagers to crush on each other without either getting together or moving on), but it’s a bend rather than a break - I can absolutely buy Keiichi (who was nerdy before moving to Hinamizawa) not really understanding that Mion and Rena want to jump his furry seal for years on end even *before* factoring more restrictive Japanese cultural mores, I can buy Rena pining but not really doing anything for such lengths of time as well, and AIUI Mion (the character most likely to actual take action to resolve the situation) has apparently been living away from the other two for an extended period.   Aside from that, though... well, there’s the issue of “why were the club bonds insufficient to prevent the events that lead to Gou and could this have been avoided?” (AFAICT the answers are “friends sometimes grow apart with time” and “no”), and if you moved the timeframe forward a few years I could see a new interesting arc (how would these three characters react to the economic slump of the early Heisei years just as they’re graduating college?), but other than that all three are basically in the same boat as Mion was in OG (only relevant insofar as they can help the other characters who still have arcs solve their problems).  They’re less relevant this time around because so far they have no reason to be relevant.
Contrast the other two full members:
- There was already enough hanging Rika threads to support Saikoroshi-hen as an epilogue arc.  More importantly, on top of the dangling Seacats connection one of Rika’s key character flaws (a certain kind of selfishness) was never really resolved in OG (Saikoroshi-hen suggested that the loops alleviated it, but never resolved it - and indeed the arc ending can be read as the triumph of that very flaw!)
- Satoko should have learned to not bottle up and try to bear it on her own when she’s having trouble and ask for help just like Rena did (Minagoroshi-hen), so if Gou is as presented she’s been done dirty there (if the mirrored narration theory is correct and Rika is actually in Satoko’s situation then this melts away, mind - in that case the issue is the very same selfishness issue I mentioned in Rika’s section).  But her abandonment issues remain, and there was also the old dangling question of “is there a connection between Satoko and Lambdadelta?”.
(Now, that’s not the entire story.  There’s one other big dangling plot arc left unresolved by OG Higurashi: the Satoshi situation.  That ties into Satoko’s situation; more importantly, it means that there is one occasional Club member whose arc is not quite finished: Shion.  Actually, that’s not quite right since Shion’s got two arcs and one is finished in Meakashi-hen (her understandable resentment at her family) - but the other (her love of Satoshi) was left stalled at “I will wait until he wakes up”.  Except, of course, for some reason Gou has so far completely avoided covering that dangling plot thread despite the other character most affected by it being the new nominal MC, so Shion has been left in the lurch.  The Clinic is coming up next episode (and that one official art does have Satoko holding what looks like Shion’s ribbon), so we’ll see if that changes - but as it is, the dangling Satoshi thread is one of Gou’s biggest flaws, and Shion should really be more prominent in Gou than she has been.)
(You know, this entire argument is reminding me of back when The World God Only Knows was still ongoing, where I called Chihiro as Winning Girl within a day of the chapter that finalized the five goddess host candidates during the Goddess Arc (the Chihiro Incident) - one of the three key reasons was because four of the five girls had a reason for still being plot-relevant, but not the girl who didn’t have a goddess (who was always going to be Chihiro, because Normal Girl is not compatible with being a goddess host)... unless she was Winning Girl.  Actually, at least one of the other two reasons also had elements of this, too: I’d recognized that Keima’s character arc was acceptance of the real world and getting together with a girl who wasn’t an eroge archetype was the logical endpoint of this (and by Keima’s own admission that was Chihiro.  Somehow large parts of the internet never got the memo; apparently 4chan’s rage was legendary when the final chapter came out.  Learn to narrative-fu, people.)

Rintarou: I was just thinking that maybe familial love doesn’t have to be something you are born into, but is also something you can make. 
Kiichi: Why, isn’t that natural? Even in this generation, there are people who choose to become family with strangers, no? 
Rintarou: ( If I ever get married and started a “family”, would that mean I have to settle down and become the backbone of the house? )

Touji: Mi-mi-mikekado-senpai, what are you doing here?! Does this mean the song didn’t work… ? 
Shion: What are you talking about? 
Touji: Well, you see, I was hoping listening to this song would strengthen your nostalgia, and then maybe you would resolve to visit your family or to give them a call, or something like that…? 
Shion: As if I would. 
Touji: But… why? Why doesn’t anything work on Mikekado-senpai?! 
Rintarou: Hey, so Touji’s the one that’s been playing the song then? 
// After I call out to him, Touji looks down at the faces of all the students who had gathered and resigns himself to speaking. // 
Touji: Actually, in order to allow Mikekado-senpai to spend some time alone with his family, I concocted a plan. 
Shion: Hah? 
Touji: Because I heard Nito-kun say that anyone who hears “Samba of the Fireflies” would definitely feel like going home! So I immediately ordered Yoshiji to get a recording of the song performed by a full orchestra! However, even when I played it in the room as he slept, it didn’t seem to be working, so then I thought that if all the school staff went home, and the dorm was forced to be shut, then even if it was reluctantly, he would have to go home. 
Touji: Thus I started playing the song from the Kiichi statue along with the 5 o’clock chime but… 
Yuma: Oh was that what that was? 
[flashback:

Touji: ( As I thought, I’m sure what she truly wants is to spend the New Years with her family. Guh, my small scale project is not enough, at this rate Mikekado-senpai will be met with sadness… ) 
Touji: ( But I, Harimiya Touji, have devoted this life to senpai, there is no storm I would not weather. Nay, I would weather even a hundred storms! ) 
Yuma: ( Harimiya? Why is he sneaking around on the platform? )

Touji: Mochizuki-kun, you saw that?

Danganronpa Despair From the Heart (prologue) - Nostalgia
Every end has a beginning.
Shocking, I know. I’ve actually started a fic for this. Wow, it’s such a surprise. XD
Sarcasm aside, this was a long time coming. And I’ve finally started it! Yay!
What do you guys think? (please send me asks!)
“O-oh, is it on already?”
“Yes. Please state your number and name.”
“...Number 45. My name is [REDACTED].”
“What is your reason for applying?”
“Well...This sounds dumb, but... I-”
[REDACTED]
“Ah, so that's your reason?”
“I guess...It's pretty stupid, I know...”
“It isn't. And...I think that's all we needed to hear.”
“Really?”
“Yes. you will get a letter within the next week regarding your result.”
“Oh...Thank you.”
“No problem. And good luck.”
The girl clicked the remote, and the screen turned into a flurry of static.
“Really?” She said, turning around to face the only other person in the room with her. “THAT’S the one you want? REALLY!?”
The man nodded. “Of course. Do you have a problem with that?”
The girl pouted annoyedly and tapped her foot on the ground. “Multiple.”
“Well tough. We’ve made the choice.” He folded his arms. “The character designers already have an idea of what to do; costume and makeup department are already making sketches, writers already have backstory drafts up; you got a problem? Too bad.”
“Why didn’t I get to choose who it was!?”
“You already had a say in who got the callbacks.”
“Yeah, but that’s different!”
The man’s eyes narrowed, as if the teenage girl was a toddler throwing a tantrum. “Of course it is. You’re just lucky we haven’t fired you.”
“Fired me? HAH!” The girl laughed. “You can’t fire me!”
“Either way,” He continued, turning to leave the room. “That’s the choice we’ve made. Stick with it or leave.”
The girl rolled her eyes just as the man closed the door behind him.
“Want me to work with this?” She said, clicking the remote a few more times to reverse the footage on the screen, before pausing on a single frame.
“I’ll work with this.”
“Hello? Can you hear me?”
A voice suddenly cut through the dark silence.
What…? Ugh, my head hurts...What’s going on?
“Heeeeey, are you awake?”
Huh? Who’s…Who IS that? What-
“Hey, I’m talking to you, guy with green hair! Rise and shine, buddy!”
...I guess I should try to…
He reluctantly forced his eyes open. His vision was a little blurry, but from what he could see, a girl was standing over him.
“Ngh...” He put his hand to his head and slowly sat up.
The girl’s eyes widened as she shot backwards. “Whoa, okay!”
He blinked a few times to get his vision clear.
This definitely wasn’t his bedroom.
From what he could tell, it looked like he was on one of the beds of a school’s nurse’s office.
“Huh?” He rubbed his head in an attempt to get rid of his throbbing headache. “Where-”
“Honestly, I don’t know either.”
He stopped at the girl’s voice and turned to face her.
The girl had long blue hair – which faded into a lighter colour – which was secured with a star-shaped hairclip. Some of it draped over her right shoulder and a rounded spike had been styled at the top. She was wearing a sailor-style uniform with a blue collar and a dark navy bow underneath a light blue hoodie, as well as a blue skater skirt with a white stripe, white stockings and dark shoes.
She was looking directly at him with bright blue eyes.
“I woke up here as well,” She continued, gesturing towards another bed on the opposite side of the room to him. “I didn’t really know what was going on, and you were knocked out too, so...” She shrugged. “Yeah.”
He focused his gaze on her.
Something about this girl made him feel...Nostalgic.
He shook those thoughts out of his head. “Do you have any idea what’s going on?”
The girl raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t you hear the part when I said I woke up here too?”
“...Good point.” He slowly eased himself off the bed.
The girl looked at him, a little concerned. “...Are you...Okay?”
“Well my head still hurts...” He replied. “I still have no idea what was going on, everything was black for a long time and-” He gestured towards the general area around him.
“Ah. Good to know we’re in the same boat.” She fiddled with her hair a little.
It took a few moments before some of his memory came back.
“Wait a second.”
The girl stopped and looked back over to him.
He continued. “Did…” He pointed in her direction. “Did you get scouted by Starlight Academy?”
“Uh...” The girl nodded. “Yeah.”
“That means...You’re an Ultimate student, right?”
“Oh! Yeah!” The girl smiled a little. “Somehow...Ehe...Wait, are you one too?”
He nodded. “Yeah. I got a letter from Starlight Academy a while back saying that I’d be doing my next few semesters here.” “Ooh! Me too!” She replied cheerily. “Maybe that’s where we are!”
“What, the academy?”
“Yeah!” The girl gestured to their surroundings. “I mean, this does look like the kinda nurse’s office you’d find in a school.”
“Well yeah, but...Why?”
“Hm?” She spun back around.
“Why would they do it like this instead of, y’know...A proper induction?”
The girl shrugged. “I dunno, maybe they just have a really weird perception of trust building exercises.”
“Yeah, evidently.”
Neither of them said anything for a few seconds.
The girl cleared her throat a little. “I think it’s about time we introduced ourselves.”
“Oh. Right.” The boy nodded. “Well...My name is Rantaro Amami. And I’m the Ultimate Adventurer.”
The girl’s eyes lit up. “You’re an ADVENTURER!? THAT’S SO COOL!”
Rantaro laughed it off. “Hehe, not really...”
“Well it is compared to mine...”
“Speaking of. It’s your turn.”
“Oh yeah! Well, uh...” She paused for a few seconds. “I’m Kokoro Hikari, and I’m the Ultimate Lucky Student. Nice to meet you!” She offered a hand to him.
He shook her hand. “Likewise. So, uh...” He started to ask. “Ultimate Lucky Student? What does that mean, exactly?”
“Well, it’s kinda dumb...” Kokoro replied with a shrug. “The academy does a country-wide lottery or draw thing and picks a random high school student to attend. And...” She gestured to herself.
“You won that draw?”
“Yeah.” She nodded. “It’s not really an Ultimate talent, though. They probably just hand out the title out of pity...”
“What makes you think that?”
“Well, I didn’t exactly do anything to earn my title. A lot of the students here get their titles by excelling in their craft, right? I mean, look at you!” She gestured towards him. “You’re an adventurer, for crying out loud!”
Rantaro shrugged. “I guess.”
“Point is, you actually did something to get your title. You earned it.” Kokoro sighed. “All I did was win a draw.”
There was a bit of an awkward silence.
“Actually,” Rantaro said. “I...Think I’ve seen you somewhere before.”
Kokoro stopped. “Really?”
“Yeah, it’s just...Your name, your face, your voice, I just...” He turned around to think. “I just remember it from somewhere, but I can’t quite put my finger on it...”
“Hm...” Kokoro said. “I do idol work I guess.”
Rantaro turned back to face her. “Idol work?”
“Yeah!” She nodded. “Y’know, stage idols and stuff? I initially picked it up as a summer job, but it’s kinda a part of my life now.” She laughed a little. “I mean, I’m not as popular as a lot of the idols you see, but I would rather have gotten into here for that than just a lucky draw...”
Rantaro slowly nodded. “...Yeah, that’s probably where I know you from.”
But part of him was still skeptical of that really being the case.
Kokoro shrugged. “Maybe.” She stopped. “Hold up.”
“Hm?”
“Well, you’re an Ultimate student and I’m an Ultimate student, right?”
“...Yeah…?”
“Well, there might be more Ultimate students here!”
“Really?”
“Going by the fact that both of us were scouted for this year, I think the rest of the class might be somewhere around.”
Rantaro put his hand to his chin. “If that’s the case...We should try to find them.”
Kokoro nodded. “Yeah, good call.”
Rantaro headed over to the door and walked out, with Kokoro following behind him. This lead them to a hallway with some other doors apparently to different classrooms appearing at random on either side.
“So, where should we start-?” Kokoro started to ask, but was cut off by a voice from behind them.
“Why not start here?”
The two of them spun around to face the source of the voice.
The boy behind them was about Rantaro’s height. He wore a pair of glasses over his violet eyes and had long purple hair that was tied into a ponytail. He wore a light royal purple shirt – partially tucked into his grey shorts – under a dark purple short sleeved thin jacket with two breast pockets on either side, and wore grey fingerless gloves on both hands. He had semi-transparent purple tights and grey boots, and it even looked like his skin had a slight lilac hue.
He smiled a little. “You wake up here too?”
“That was quick...” Rantaro said to himself, before turning to the stranger. “Yeah, we woke up in that nurses office a few rooms down.”
“Huh.” He replied. “Looks like everyone here’s the same, then...”
Kokoro’s eyes widened in surprise. “Wait, everyone?”
“Yeah, I asked everyone. They all woke up somewhere here with no memory of how they got there.” He shrugged. “Pretty weird, huh?”
“Understatement of the century...” Kokoro shook her head and put her hand on her hip.
Rantaro shrugged. “At least we know now there’s more people here.” He looked over to the boy. “How many were there?”
“Well...” He tilted his head a bit as he thought to himself. “Counting myself and you two...Fourteen.”
“Fourteen people?” Kokoro asked.
“Don’t look at me, the school board were the ones who decided on the class’ numbers.”
“Hm. So, uh...” Kokoro continued. “Why don’t we get introductions outta the way? I’ll go first. I’m Kokoro Hikari, and I’m this year’s Ultimate Lucky Student.”
“And I’m Rantaro Amami.” Rantaro followed. “Ultimate Adventurer. And you are…?”
“Jasper Shion.” The boy extended a hand to him. “It’s a pleasure.”
There was still some air of mystery about him, so Rantaro was a little cautious when he shook his hand.
“Uh...Yeah.”
“Wait,” Kokoro said questioningly. “What about your talent?”
Jasper looked over to her. “What about my talent?”
“You, uh...Never said what it was.”
Jasper nodded. “Yeah.”
“Well, Rantaro and I both said ours.”
“Mm-hm. And your point is…?”
“I think what she’s trying to say is,” Rantaro decided to ask himself. “Aren’t you going to say what your talent is?”
Jasper paused for a few seconds, staring at Rantaro questioningly. “...Why should I?”
Rantaro and Kokoro looked at each other for a few seconds.
“Uh,” Kokoro asked. “Do you...HAVE an Ultimate Talent?”
“Of course I do.” Jasper answered. “I mean, why would I be here if I didn’t?”
“Good point...”
“I do have a talent.” He continued. “I just don’t want to say what it is.”
“Why not?” Rantaro asked.
“I have my own reasons.” Jasper replied cryptically. “But I don’t have to say it if I don’t want to.”
Rantaro flinched back a little. Jasper’s seemingly mysterious aura had almost forced him to instinctively step back.
After that the boy in question immediately snapped back to normal.
“Anyway,” He said. “Why don’t you continue searching?”
“Huh?”
“For the rest of the class. I’ve already met them, but you two evidently haven’t.” Jasper pointed towards Rantaro and Kokoro.
Kokoro looked up to him. “…The man’s got a point.”
“Right...” Rantaro nodded, before turning back over to Jasper. “It was nice meeting you.”
He smiled. “Likewise.”
Rantaro quickly turned back around on him and Kokoro’s initial course and continued walking.
“Any idea where anyone else could be?” She asked.“I mean, it’s not like they’ll all be gathered in one place or something, huh?”
“No clue...” Rantaro shook his head.
“I could help you if you want.”
Rantaro stopped and turned around to see that Jasper was trailing after them.
“...Are you following us?”
Jasper shrugged with a deadpan stare. “I have literally nothing better to do.”
“Good point-”
“Hey,” Kokoro said from up ahead. “What’s this over here?”
Rantaro immediately headed over to the source of her voice, with Jasper following behind. Kokoro was standing in front of a red door.
“To answer your question,” Jasper said, very matter-of-factly. “...It’s a door. It’s also red.”
“Yeah! I figured!” She said. “But it has no doorknob!”
“Yeah of course it- wait it has no what.”
“Look!”
Rantaro and Jasper took a closer look at the door.
There was a large grey circle with the shape of what looked like a large chess pawn carved into the middle. And other than a decal of another chess piece – a king – Kokoro was right.
Rantaro looked over to her. “...Are you SURE that’s a door?”
“Of course that’s a door, dumbass.” A voice said from behind the three of them.
A girl was standing behind them, with blue hair tied in a ponytail and secured with a hairclip shaped like a pink wrapped candy, and fake-looking golden baby-doll eyes. She was wearing a white sailor shirt with a baby blue collar and a pink bow, a white and blue pleated miniskirt and blue boots with stockings with pink candy stripes.
She was glaring right at Rantaro.
Jasper rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath. “Oh, god...”
“Huh. Polite introduction.” Kokoro said sarcastically.
“I don’t care.” The girl replied.
Rantaro sighed.
This will evidently be a fun one…
He decided not to rise up to the girl’s rude remarks. “Are you an Ultimate student too?”
“If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t be standing here, would I? Don’t ask stupid questions.”
He was finding it very hard not to rise up to the girl’s rude remarks.
“Well then...I’m Rantaro. Ultimate Adventurer. This is Kokoro, Ultimate Lucky Student, and this is Jasper, Ultimate…...Uuuhh...”
“Don’t bother.” Jasper quipped.
“Could’ve said that earlier. Anyway,” He turned back to the girl. “And you are…?”
“Tsumugi Shirogane.” The girl introduced. “Ultimate Confectioner.”
“Ultimate Confectioner?” Kokoro asked.
“What, do you need your ears cleaned out or something?”
Well, Rantaro thought. Makes sense given her aesthetic. But you’d think someone who makes candy would at least try to be sweet or something, right? But with her…
He looked over to Tsumugi, who just scowled.
...She’s more sour.
“Anyway as I was saying,” Tsumugi continued. “Of course that’s a door.”
“There’s no doorknob.” Jasper replied, pointing at the door.
“Just because it doesn’t have a doorknob doesn’t mean it’s not a door.”
“There isn’t a keyhole either.”
“There is.” She replied smugly. “You three are just too dumb to see it.”
Jasper groaned. Rantaro decided to take the helm again.
“Well then, where is this keyhole?”
Tsumugi scoffed. “Why should I tell you? I mean, you’re not the kind of person I’d associate with.” She pointed at him mockingly. “With your tacky jewellery and your fake green hair.”
He growled a little. “It’s not fake you bi-”
“O-KAY!” Kokoro said loudly, detecting the rising intensity of the situation. “We will look at this door...Later!” She suddenly grabbed Rantaro by the arm and started dragging him off.
“Wh- hey! What’re you-”
She continued dragging him away as Jasper had started to also make his leave.
“It was nice to meet you! BYE!”
Kokoro stopped and released him after rounding a corner.
“Okay,” She said, just as Jasper casually arrived after them. “Looks like we’re out of earshot.”
“Um.” Rantaro turned over to her. “Why did you do that.”
“The situation was escalating and I panicked!”
“All she did was insult his hair.” Jasper replied. “And his jewellery. And practically all three of u- oh I see what you mean now.”
“Exactly! I didn’t want it to turn into a full blown screaming match!” Kokoro turned around and started to look down the hallway in front of them.
Jasper turned to Rantaro. “You didn’t need to introduce me to her, by the way. I’ve already talked to everyone.”
“I was just trying to be polite.” He replied. “Doesn’t seem to register with her, though...Was she the same way when you talked to her?”
“Tried to talk to her.” He corrected. “She kept saying something about me looking like the ‘edgy one’ from a knockoff anime.”
“Damn.” Rantaro said, sighing. “I don’t really watch anime. Some of my sisters do, but-”
“Sisters?” Kokoro perked up, turning back around. “As in...Plural?”
Shit. That slipped out without thinking.
“...Uh......Yeah.” He confirmed.
“How many?” She asked.
Oh god, here we go...
“………...Twelve.”
Rantaro could practically hear Kokoro’s eyes widening.
“TWELVE!?” She exclaimed.
“Yeah, twelve?” Jasper added.
“Yeah, yeah, I get that a lot...” He sighed. “My dad remarried a lot after I was born, and two of them were adopted, so...”
Jasper raised an eyebrow. “...Huh. Sibling rivalry must be hell.”
Rantaro shrugged.
“Twelve younger sisters!? That’s awesome!” Kokoro squealed, jumping up and down a little. “Tell me about them! Tell me about them! Tell me about them!”
“Ahahah...” Rantaro laughed it off nervously, already guessing her and Jasper’s reactions if he did. “...I’d...Rather not...”
“Aaawww, pleeeeaaaase?”
“No.” He affirmed bluntly, before brushing off his tone with a slightly forced smile. “I’ll...Uh...Tell you about them at some...Point...Later.”
“Pleeeaaaa-”
“Kokoro.” Jasper said firmly. “He said no.”
Kokoro pouted.
Rantaro was just about to say again that he was going to tell her at some point (which he wasn’t actually planning to), when the three of them heard something from a nearby room.
The door was marked “stage room” with a sign. The three of them headed inside to investigate.
The room inside was like a typical stage room you’d find in a school – only without sets of chairs on the floor in front of the stage. Said stage had two sets of red curtains; one opened set at the front, and a closed set at the back, as well as a door nearby the stage to get to the backstage area.
There were also two people inside.
One was a girl, with silver hair tied into a messy ponytail. She wore a light lavender-pink jacket with a collar and the sleeves rolled up, with darker trousers and light grey shoes. Her easily most notable features were a medical eyepatch over her left eye, and a bag – holding a bow and some arrows – over her shoulder.
The other was a boy. He was very short, so he almost looked like a middle schooler. He had bobbed pink hair with a fringe styled with a diamond-shaped emerald hairclip. He had a short trench coat and two chunky bangles to match the colour of his hairclip, salmon-coloured trousers and light pink shoes, and an almost coral-coloured bead necklace. He had emerald green eyes and a 4-pointed star-shaped symbol under his left eye.
The boy cheerily smiled at them, while the girl closed her eyes – well, eye – and looked away.
“Okay,” Rantaro asked. “Let’s be real here. What on earth would we need a stage room for?”
Kokoro shrugged. “If one of us was the Ultimate Actor or something. Or Ultimate SFX Artist. Or Ultimate Anything to do With Theatre.”
“Well, there’s something close-” Jasper started, but was cut off by the other boy walking over to them with his shoes clicking on the ground, almost like they could be mistaken for tap shoes.
“Hey there!” He said with a smile. “It’s good to see some other people.”
Kokoro discreetly leaned over to Rantaro. “Hey Rantaro, who let a third-grader in here-?”
“I’M NOT A THIRD GRADER!” The boy snapped, causing Kokoro to jump back in surprise.
“Aah sorry!”
He sighed, pouting a little. “It just REALLY gets on my nerves when people do that.”
Well, he IS really short.
“Anyway,” Rantaro said. “Let’s just do introductions. I’m Rantaro Amami, the Ultimate Adventurer, and this is Kokoro Hikari, the Ultimate Lucky Student.”
“I’m Yuuma Todoroki.” The boy introduced. “The Ultimate Jeweller.”
A jeweller, huh? Rantaro thought. He is wearing quite a few accessories, so it makes sense.
“So does that mean you, like,” Kokoro asked. “Make jewellery and stuff?”
Yuuma nodded. “Yup.”
“Actually,” Jasper asked, looking to Rantaro and Kokoro. “Ever heard of the company The Velvet Box?”
“I guess.” Rantaro replied. He had heard of the company from TV adverts and such.
“Yeah,” Kokoro said. “Some of my friends at school wear their stuff. Why?”
Jasper nodded towards Yuuma.
It took a few seconds for the two of them to realise what he was getting at.
“Wait, that’s YOUR company!?”
Yuuma shrugged. “Kinda. I mean, it’s my dad’s, but he got sick so I had to take over.”
“A lot of the jewellery The Velvet Box sells is his designs.” Jasper added.
Rantaro was impressed. “Nice.”
“Oh, it’s nothing!” Yuuma replied casually. “I’m honestly just glad to see other people here.”
“What about that girl there?” Kokoro asked, briefly signalling towards the only other person in the room.
“I tried.”
“...You...Tried?”
“Yeah, not much of a socialite I don’t think.”
“Hm...” Rantaro said thoughtfully. “Well, it was good to meet you.”
“Same here!”
Rantaro turned around and started to walk over to the other girl, with Kokoro and Jasper following not too far behind.
She barely reacted when Rantaro walked over.
“Uh...Hey.” He said.
The girl didn’t say anything.
“...Hello?”
The girl didn’t say anything at first, but then sighed before finally responding.
“…...Hey.” She turned to look at the three coldly. “What do you want?”
I think I can see what Yuuma meant now.
“We’re just introducing ourselves.” Rantaro answered. “We haven’t met you-”
“I have.” Jasper corrected.
“Well, Kokoro and I haven’t.” Rantaro refuted, before turning back over to the girl. “Anyway, I’m Rantaro Amami, and I’m the Ultimate Adventurer.”
“And I’m Kokoro Hikari.” Kokoro introduced. “The Ultimate Lucky Student.”
The girl looked at the three of them for a few seconds before saying “...Can’t we just skip this?”
“What? No!” Kokoro argued. “We’ve literally just met you-”
“Already met her.” Jasper corrected again.
“Zip it, you’re not helping!”
“Ugh, fine...” The girl said with a groan. “Ahmya Aika. Ultimate Archer.”
Rantaro wasn’t surprised, given the fact that she carried a bow and arrows on her back, but then realised something.
“Wait.” He said. “Do I...Know you from something?”
Ahmya blinked. “...What?”
“Wait a second!” He realised. “You were on the news a while ago!”
“She was?” Kokoro asked.
“Yeah,” Rantaro continued. “She’s a respected archer despite her young age, but someone shot her eye out during a competition.”
Kokoro took a step back in shock. “What!?”
Ahmya didn’t respond for a few more seconds.
“...Oh yeah.” She replied. “One of the competitors really didn’t want me to win, so they hired someone to shoot me in the eye.” She shrugged. “I still managed to win, though. It’s how I got my title apparently.”
That explains the eyepatch. Rantaro thought. And her aloof nature I guess...I mean, she lost her eye. If someone lost a part of themselves, it would make sense for them to turn cold.
“H-how can you say that so casually!?” Kokoro exclaimed.
Ahmya just tutted.
“Did you do any other competitions afterwards?” Jasper asked, slightly shifting the subject away from her injury.
“Some.” She replied. “But not the large-scale ones I used to do. I didn’t want the news coverage all up in my face.”
Jasper shrugged. “Makes sense.
“Well, um,” Rantaro said, sensing that Ahmya didn’t want to talk for much longer. “It was...Nice meeting you.”
Ahmya nodded every so slightly. “Hm.” She turned away from them to stare vacantly at the wall, twirling a lock from her messy ponytail with her finger.
I think she’s more comfortable in her own company. Rantaro thought. We should leave her be for a few minutes.
“Well I dunno about you,” Yuuma said from behind them, catching their attention; well, aside from Ahmya, as she wasn’t paying attention to them. “But I’m getting kinda bored of this place.”
Kokoro briefly looked over to the door to behind the stage. “We haven’t checked backstage yet.”
“Don’t you think I would’ve done that already?” Yuuma smirked. “There’s nothing really there, aside from some sandbags, crash mats, some kinda area where people would get changed for a show I think, I don’t really watch theatre so I don’t know.” He turned and headed towards the door. “I’m gonna explore to see if there’s anywhere that’s interesting.”
He left the room, the clicks from his shoes getting quieter as he got further and further away.
The room was silent for a few moments, when surprisingly Ahmya broke the silence.
“Some kid.”
“Oh, uh, indeed.” Rantaro was a little surprised by the fact she said anything at all. “I guess we’d better make a move too...Do you want to come with us?”
Ahmya said nothing, but eventually shook her head.
That’s a no…
“Let’s just head.” Kokoro said, pointing towards the door. “We’ve still got places in the academy to check out.”
“Okay.” Rantaro said, briefly nodding towards Ahmya as if to signal a farewell.
Ahmya nodded back, before turning back to the wall, prompting Rantaro, Kokoro and Jasper to leave.
“I’m still not getting the point of having a stage room,” Kokoro said as the three of them walked through the hallway.
Rantaro shrugged. “Every school has one, I’m pretty sure.”
Jasper nodded. “Yeah, the high school I used to go to had one.”
“Yeah, it’s a mandatory thing I guess.”
“Looks like it-”
They were stopped by what sounded like a bang from somewhere they just walked past.
Kokoro froze. “What the hell was that!?”
“I’m no expert,” Jasper replied. “But I think that sounded like someone punching something.”
“We should head in.” Rantaro said, Kokoro nodding in response.
The three of them headed into a room, which appeared to be some kind of open-plan dining hall, with a few tables and chairs and an empty doorway to a kitchen. There were two vending machines – one dispensing snacks and the other dispensing drinks – against a wall, and a girl was angrily pounding her fist against the drink dispenser.
They couldn’t see her face, but the girl was short and had long dark hair tied into a braid with a golden tie. She was wearing a dark jacket and a white skirt with white semi-transparent stockings and black heeled boots. She was carrying what appeared to be some kind of katana in a bag over her right shoulder, with a golden dragon design on the back.
“Dammit…!” She hissed, punching the machine again. “Why won’t this damn thing work!?”
“Um, hello?” Rantaro said, trying to get the girl’s attention.
“Okay,” The girl completely ignored them and prepared to kick the machine’s glass in. “Fuck it.”
“WHOA, WHOA!” Kokoro ran over in a panic to stop her. “CALM DOWN, PLEASE!”
“Huh?” The girl stopped and turned around as the three of them approached.
She had dark skin and golden eyes with some dark eyeshadow, and a small scar below her left eye. Her hair was styled in a messy fringe over her right eye, and some areas had been dip-dyed gold. She had a white shirt under her jacket with a faded blue ribbon tied in a droopy bow underneath the collar.
She sighed and put her hand on her hip annoyedly. “What the hell do you want?” She then took notice of Jasper alongside the two. “...Oh. It’s you again.”
Jasper shrugged. “I have literally nothing better to do.” He pointed at the machine. “You DID try putting money in that thing, right?”
“Tch. Would if I had any. The bastard who kidnapped me stole my cash and my phone.” She folded her arms. “Which is a real pain in the ass right now...”
“Wait, what?” Rantaro asked. “You don’t have any money on you? Or your phone?”
“Didn't you hear a word I said?” The girl replied bitterly.
Rantaro stopped to think for a few seconds, before holding his finger up to signal the group to wait.
“Hold on.”
He quickly searched both of his pockets.
Both of them were empty.
“Wait, what the hell!?”
He suddenly turned over to Kokoro, who was looking at him in bewilderment.
He gave her a determined look. “...Check your pockets.”
“Huh?” She asked. “Why?”
“Just do it.”
“Okay, fine.” She put her hand in the left pocket of her hoodie. “But I don’t see why you-”
Her expression suddenly shifted to confusion. She stopped and checked the other pocket, also coming up empty.
She started to panic. “Wait, where the hell is my phone!?”
Rantaro put his hand to his chin. “Just as I thought...”
Jasper narrowed his eyes, bemused. “...Shouldn’t that have been the first thing you checked when you woke up?”
“Zip it punk, you’re not helping.” The girl snapped.
“Wait,” Kokoro asked, pointing at the vending machine. “What would be the point of having vending machines if we weren’t gonna have any money?”
“Maybe it’s a card-op thing.” Jasper suggested. “Some schools have cards you can swipe for this kind of thing.” He mimicked swiping a card against a scanner. “They might give it to us at some point later or something.”
“I checked.” The girl replied. “It’s coin-op. Not only that,” She pointed at a small sign next to where you would put your coins. The sign had a picture of a coin, but with the shape of a bear’s head that appeared to be split into two halves.
“It says it only takes...Whatever this means.”
Jasper shrugged. “Then I’ve got no clue.”
“I think the real question is why the academy would take it in the first place.” Rantaro said. “I mean, they don’t have a real reason to take our phones and money off of us.”
“Because they're authoritarian fuckheads, that's why.” The girl replied.
“I’m...” Kokoro started. “Not sure that has anything to do with it.”
“Whatever. Whoever the fuck is running this place, I already hate them.”
“Okay...” Rantaro couldn’t shake the unease this new revelation had given him, but decided not to focus on that for now.
“That aside, we should get introductions out of the way.”
“Why? I already know him.” She pointed over at Jasper. “And I don’t know if I can trust either of you.”
“Well, we haven’t tried anything yet, have we?” Kokoro asked.
The girl tutted. “That doesn't prove anything to me.”
“Whatever...” Rantaro said. “Anyway, I'm Rantaro Amami. I'm the Ultimate Adventurer.”
“And I’m Kokoro Hikari, the Ultimate Lucky Student.” Kokoro added.
“Tch...” The girl folded her arms and sighed. “Fine...Sachiko Akahana. Ultimate Delinquent. There, you happy now?”
Kokoro froze, suddenly taking a slight step back.
Rantaro couldn’t help but be a little shocked either.
...Did...Did I just hear that right?
“What the fuck are you two staring at me like that for?”
“Sorry, I just, ah...” Kokoro stammered. “Don't think I heard that last part right.”
“You did.” Jasper answered.
Kokoro’s eyes widened in shock. “E-eh!?”
Ultimate Delinquent? Rantaro thought. I guess that explains the sword and her confrontational attitude…
“If you don’t mind me asking,” He started to ask. “How did you get your-”
“Don’t even think about it.” Sachiko snapped.
“Huh?”
“I'm not gonna tell you how I got my talent unless I know I can trust you.”
Rantaro sighed in resignation. “Okay then...”
“Hey, it isn't nice to be so distrusting!” Kokoro objected.
Sachiko’s glare narrowed on her. “...What was that?”
“Bad idea.” Jasper said from the side.
Kokoro ignored him. “Well, I think you're being really rude!”
“I don't give a damn what you think about me. Now fuck off before I have to hurt you.”
“Please don’t antagonise her-” Rantaro started, only to also be ignored.
“I know you're not exactly the model student type,” Kokoro argued. “but you could stand to be a little nicer to people!”
“Who the FUCK do you think you are!?” Sachiko snapped angrily, grabbing the handle of her katana. “Get out of my way before I break you!”
Kokoro froze and took a step back.
“Okay.” Rantaro said, swiftly grabbing onto Kokoro’s arm. “We’re leaving now.”
“Wait what-” Kokoro started, before Rantaro sprinted off with her in tow.
“SORRYWEGOTOFFONTHEWRONGFOOTTHEREHOPEFULLYWE’LLBEABLETOTALKAGAINATSOMEPOINTBYE.”
The door slammed shut, leaving Jasper and Sachiko in the room together.
Jasper clicked his tongue. “Well. That was a thing.”
“Was that REALLY necessary!?”
“Hey, you did it to me earlier. And you were pissing her off. It was pretty necessary.”
Rantaro had dropped Kokoro off in what he assumed to be a safe distance away from the dining hall.
“Well she WAS being rude!”
“She’s literally called the Ultimate Delinquent. I don’t think making her angry is a good idea.”
“Hey!” They heard someone say. Both of them looked up to see Jasper walking over to them.
He shot an annoyed look at Rantaro. “Thanks for leaving me in there.”
“I’m sorry, I panicked. How is she?”
“Well she hasn’t broken the glass on that machine yet, so that’s a good sign.”
“I guess...”
“Hey, guys!” Kokoro suddenly said, running over to a nearby door. “I found another weird door!”
Rantaro and Jasper immediately followed over to see what she was talking about.
The door in question was painted a dark lilac colour, with a white decal resembling two band-aids crossing over each other.
“Another one?” Rantaro asked. “It’s like that one we found earlier.”
“At least it actually has a doorknob this time.” Jasper pointed out the door’s silver knob, with a similarly coloured keyhole underneath it.
Rantaro tried the door.
“Damn. It’s locked.”
“What do you reckon is in there?” Kokoro asked.
Jasper shrugged. “The symbol is of two crossed band-aids, so I reckon it’s probably some kind of nurse’s office.”
Kokoro shook her head. “No, Rantaro and I woke up in a nurse’s office when we arrived here. And that was all the way down the hall.”
“Then I have no clue.”
“Well, we can’t get inside...” Rantaro sighed and stepped back from the door. “So there’s no way of knowing right now.”
“That’s a pain...” Kokoro agreed, before something else caught her eye. “Hey, what do you think is up there?”
“Huh?” Rantaro turned to look at what she was looking at.
Not too far away from the door was a staircase leading upwards.
“Oh yeah.” Jasper recalled. “There’s another floor to this building.”
“Why didn’t you say so?” Rantaro asked, irritated.
He shrugged. “Neither of you asked.”
“Would’ve been pretty good to know!”
“Yeah, yeah.” Kokoro brushed both of them off, already walking towards the staircase. “Looks like the next step is this way.” She stopped once she got onto the first step and laughed to herself a little. “...Pun not intended.”
Rantaro smirked a little, starting to follow her. “It totally was.”
“It wasn’t!” She argued playfully. “Let’s just go.”
Rantaro nodded as him and Jasper followed after her to the next floor.

RWBY Musings #40: A Squiggle Meister’s Views on Jaune and the Arc Family

“ on jaunes similarities to jon snow I have to point out that jon snow is from the north ( and ned stark was lord of winterfell) Jaune has mentioned he has seven sisters a few times through out the series. The Seven Sisters is another name for the Pleiades star cluster, which is named after the seven daughters of Atlas so jaune is actually from atlas/mantle but just visited mistral like they had friends there (and considering the theory that jaunes ancestor was the king of vale what if  instead his ancestor was the king of mistral). you know jon snows father ned stark (in the books it was never stated that his father wasnt ned stark) was the lord of winterfell and he was raised in the north and the pleiades which are also called the seven sisters constellation are the 7 daughters of atlas and jaune has 7 sisters you know weiss is based on snow white who is woken up from a death like sleep by her prince charming true love kiss and jaune saved weiss from a near death experience by amplifying her aura with his own . oh and if jaune and weiss get together and he takes her name he will be jaune schnee or jaune snow which soundss like jon snow ( funny enough both jacques and jaune have french first names”

If Jaune is originally from Atlas, that would make a boat load of sense. Back in V2, Jaune did mention hearing Weiss sing before when he was describing why he liked her. I’m not sure if the Schnee Dust Company hosted any charity concerts outside of Atlas in other parts of Remnant. The only time we’ve seen Weiss perform is on her home turf. If Jaune is Atlesian or at least from that side of Remnant then that would explain how he was able to hear her perform.

I find it interesting that so far in the series, Jaune is the only character to recognize Weiss for her singing talents. My wild guess is that he probably saw her perform once live in person at a concert hosted by the Schnee Dust Company and that’s when he first became enthralled by our veteran ice queen.
Wouldn’t be too shocked if Jaune also frequented some of those concerts just so he can see Weiss. Do you know what’d be cute? If after one concert when he was younger, Jaune brought Weiss some flowers that he had planned to give to her backstage? The idea was to give it to her in person but he never got the chance to since he was immediately stopped by security. So instead the flowers were tossed aside with a random set of gifts that Jacques Schnee probably ordered to be discarded. However Klein or whichever designated butler or caretaker was overseeing Weiss at the time managed to snag one of the gifts for Weiss before it was permanently hauled in the trash and it was the one from Jaune. Though Weiss never learnt who the flowers were from (since Jaune never revealed his name; just said her was a secret admirer or something like that), she remembered cherishing Jaune’s flowers the most since the young white knight had also taken the liberty of leaving her a little letter secretly hidden with his gift. The letter not only voiced little Jaune’s praises and admiration for Weiss and her talents, but also wished her all the best with her life, filling the girl with a pleasant sense of encouragement. Weiss cherished that letter the most because it had been what helped cheer her up following another miserable experience where her mother was absent from her concert (again) so it was just her and her father. And his company was never quite pleasant. They didn’t even share the same limo as Jacques would always have the family chauffeur take Weiss home while he took another to entertain privileged guests.
I think it’d be pretty sweet if Weiss and Jaune shared a little history like this. It’d be good for Weiss ultimately or hopefully at least, warming up to Jaune; finally seeing that he’s a good young man rather than the nuisance he used to be back in previous seasons.

Y’know this makes me wonder something about Jaune now. Is his family rich? Like considered Atlesian upper class? So far, according to RWBY, the only people to have seen Weiss perform in person are the Atlesian elite or at least that’s how it appears.

So...if Jaune’s family name: Arc is supposedly of upper class by Atlas standards, then shouldn’t his last name be known like the Schnee Family? I’m curious now. All fans know about Jaune thus far is that he has seven sisters, shares a huntsman ancestral background and that his great-great-grandfather fought in the Great War using the weapon that Jaune later inherited.

What if...Jaune had a Sofia the First moment where his father, a huntsman originally born in Mantle, remarried into Atlesian upper-class?
So Arc is in fact the family name from Jaune’s paternal side of the family while his new mom---his stepmom carries a surname that is a possible staple in the Atlas community. Perhaps not as well-known as the Schnees but still right up there with the rich and elite? It would be pretty cool if Jaune had a Fred from Big Hero 6 moment where it was later revealed to his friends that his family were rich and well-endowed. However in Jaune’s case, it would be more like his stepmother and his sisters were rich and well-endowed whereas he was always more of the runt of the litter, since he was the only child to not be biologically born to his stepmother.  It’s certainly another way to tie Jaune’s character with John Snow, since Jon was originally believed to be the rejected bastard child of the noble Starks when in actuality he’s the true heir to the Iron Throne. Jaune already comes from a noble family of strong huntsmen; at least on his father’s side as he presumed. It’d be funny if he’s also secretly as rich as Weiss, thanks to his stepmom, but never brought it up. But this is just me speculating here.

‘...The next town is Shion. My family used to visit there all the time!’ ....Oh yeah, don’t you have like four sisters? ... Er...Seven.’
Y’know I used to think that Jaune was the youngest born of his siblings, hence why it was so easy for him to be the target for teasing from his sisters. But...what if... Jaune is the middle child of his family. In looking back at earlier seasons, especially during the scenes where the topic of Jaune’s sisters was brought up, it was never actually confirmed if Jaune’s sisters were older or younger. As a matter of fact, each time the sisters are mentioned, it’s always with an air of ambiguity. No real specification of age.
‘...Over there is the great hiking trail and over there is where we went camping all the time. I got my own tent because I was special. Also so my sisters would stop braiding my hair...’

Since the story never specifies, I’m gonna assume it’s a mix. Jaune is literally the ‘Malcolm in the Middle’. He’s the Special Boy because firstly, he’s the only boy child of eight children. Secondly he’s most likely the fifth eldest kid in the bunch and lastly, and this is mostly me feeding more into my earlier theory, Jaune is the only child from his father’s first marriage.  
My hunch is that Jaune’s sisters are actually a mix of step sisters and half sisters that he gained after Papa Arc remarried. Since Ruby mentioned the number four when she first talked about Jaune’s sisters, let’s say when Jaune’s dad married his second wife, Jaune gained four older sisters who were his stepmother’s children from her last marriage. Later, Papa Arc and Stepmommy Arc had three more daughters after Jaune. So in actuality, Jaune has four older stepsisters and three younger half sisters with him being the middle man and only boy. Now again, this is just me speculating here to further emphasize my presumption but...who knows? Could be a possibility? There’s still a lot of mystery to Jaune’s family tree left to be discovered so yeah, who knows.  
If Jaune is eventually revealed to hail from Atlas, it’d be awesome because it could give the gang a potential nice place to stay when they arrive in Atlas. Plus it’d be a really, really nice way for us to finally meet Jaune’s family and his infamous seven sisters at long last. The Seven Daughters of Atlas indeed.
Y’know while other RWBY theorists have been imagining Jaune’s sisters to be badass huntresses, am I the only one who’s just picturing them all each as pampered princesses; spoiled by the Atlesian lifestyle. Not so spoiled that they’re pompous and annoying but enough that they consider the huntsman lifestyle, as Whitley put it, ‘far too barbaric and hostile’ for their tastes. It’d be interesting if Jaune sisters, particularly the older ones, never desired to become huntresses due to the dangers of such a lifestyle. It’d be interesting if it’s revealed that Jaune’s sisters constantly worry for their brother’s safety due to him choosing to become a huntsman like their stepfather and his side of the family. But after seeing their brother in action against a Grimm, Jaune inspires, perhaps his younger sisters or at least one of them to become a huntress. Maybe? But that’s my view of the Arc Sisters. Everyone’s got their own. 
Jaune’s Parents
Suppose... Jaune shares a very close bond to his father and to some extent, even his sisters (despite their tendency to tease him a lot as the only boy child). However Jaune has a somewhat strained relationship with his step-mother. 
Not in the sense that his step mother is a wicked woman who constantly treats Jaune like an outsider and stain on her family household but more in the sense that his step-mom strongly desires to be a great mom to Jaune but doesn’t really know how. And while the two do get along well, Jaune has never been able to connect to his stepmother emotionally due to him still harbouring some emotions about losing his real mother at a young age. And despite his stepmother’s efforts to fill that void in his life, Jaune never calls her ‘mom’. He always refers to her as his ‘step-mom’; even in the many long years since their families united. 
Since we’re comparing Jaune Arc to Jon Snow, I don’t want Jaune to be a bastard child of his family or have a mother figure that hates him; like in the case of Catelyn Stark.

I know in Game of Thrones, Catelyn Stark was pretty much a bitch to Jon. That being said, I don’t want that to be the case for Jaune. If he does indeed have a stepmother, it’d be refreshing to see a parent-child dynamic where the step parent actually tries to connect with their stepchild. Of all her children, Stepmommy Arc has always struggled with her bond with Jaune since he was the only child from her second husband’s first marriage. Not to mention that Jaune always kind of felt that his stepmother didn’t like him when in fact it was a misunderstanding.
So far in RWBY, Blake is the only known character with both her parents still in the story and actually happily married.

A nice way to highlight a comparison between Weiss and Jaune is to indicate the possible similarities between their families. Again, I understand this is merely just a theory of mine but it would be mighty fascinating if part of Jaune’s family, at least on his new mother’s side, is very prestige in the Atlas community. So both Jaune and Weiss will share family members who married into wealth.
Though unlike Jacques, Jaune’s dad actually remarried his stepmother for the right reasons. It’d be a nice way of showing Weiss what her family could’ve been if her father wasn’t such a jackass or, as the FNDM likes to call him, a JACQUES-ASS!
It’d be nice if we got another Atlesian family in the series where the marriage considered of an outsider being courted into higher class society but out of love rather than the pursuit of power. I’d love to see the kind of father Jaune’s dad is.
He certainly seems like the family man type since Jaune mentioned him taking the entire family camping in Shion Village frequently back in V4. It’d be interesting to see if Papa Arc contrasts Jacques Schnee in the sense that he’s the Ned Stark to his...whelp, I guess,Jacques Schnee is more the RWBY equivalent of Cersi Lannister from GOT in terms of their conniving wit and just how low both characters will stoop to get what they want, right?

A Gift from a King
Lastly to conclude my long-ass reply, I’ll answer your point on Jaune's ancestor. Yeah...I don’t think Jaune's great-great grandfather was the King of Vale or the King of Mistral or even a king at all for that matter.
If anything Jaune's ancestor was most likely a revered huntsman whose bravery and strength during the Great War was remembered as he probably helped to shape it and lead Remnant into a new era of peace between the Four Kingdoms. Remember the statue in the Beacon Academy courtyard? The one of the huntsman, huntress and the Grimm? The same one that Jaune was seen looking at back in the V1 opening?

I could be wrong about this but I think the heroic huntsman immortalized in stone in that statue might've been Great-Great Grandpapi Arc. Or at least reminded Jaune of him and the lineage of strength he was expected to uphold.
It'd be exciting if Jaune bared some similarities to his great-great grandfather in his youth.
Like perhaps Jaune has always perceived Great-Great Grandpapi Arc to be this powerful warrior prodigy from the get go based on all the tall tales he heard about him growing up.
However what if...in his teenage years, when he was about Jaune’s age at the start of RWBY, Great-Great Grandpapi Arc was a scraggly-looking young kid who desired to become a brave huntsman but lacked the talent and formal training. It was then when he met the King of Vale who later became his first friend and mentor. Under the King’s tutelage, Jaune’s great-great grandfather was transformed from an incompetent fighter to a strong huntsman worthy of fighting for his kingdom in the Great War.    As a result of their friendship as his pupil, the King eventually presented young Great-Great Grandpapi Arc with a weapon upon successfully completing his training. The weapon was a sword and shield---Crocea Mors, as the King christened it, which the man proclaimed suited the young Arc lad perfectly as he believed he would go on to do amazing things for his Kingdom with such a weapon in his arsenal. And as we all know, Great-Great Grandpapi Arc fought in the Great War wielding Crocea Mors as his trademark weapon of choice. That's my theory. I think Crocea Mors was gift from the King of Vale to Jaune’s ancestor.
I’d also love to think that Great-Great Grandpapi Arc originally fought alongside the King of Vale in the Great War; adding to my hunch that they were once comrades in arms. 
It's very easy for the Arc Family to have ties to Vale on Jaune’s father's side of the family. However he can also have ties to Atlas too. Y'know in the event that his dad did marry a woman from Atlas?
I really want the concept of Jaune Arc being half Valiant / half Atlesian and/or mostly raised in Atlas to become canon now. I like it because not only could it give us another character with ties to the Kingdom besides Weiss but as I mentioned before, it’s another way to pinpoint some similarities between the two and help strength the White Knight friendship. 
But that's just me.

Anyway since there wasn’t any prompt/ship request I just went ahead and chose my own :’) So it’s an Albatross Soulmate AU oneshot since I’m a sucker for both

Just be warned there’s a mention of character death (Alba’s) but it’s very glossed over!! ALSO there’s a lot, a LOT of fluff. Lots. It’ll rot your teeth. Ros kisses Alba like fifty times and it’s great

Shion had never really believed in the solidarity of soulmates.
While growing up, he’d silently trace fingers over the blank space on his wrist, feeling a sense of emptiness. It was common for people to be born without soulmates and later on wake up one day to find a name written on their wrist. But five years passed, then ten, and by fifteen he gave up all hope that there was somebody meant for him and him alone. Which was fine. Crea was in the same boat, his wrist being a blank slate for even longer than Shion. It was extremely rare for people to go this long without getting their soulmate’s name—Shion wasn’t sure if he and Crea were lucky or unlucky to know each other, two lost souls without a person to call their own. So they confided in each other, then, since Rchimedes would always clam up and go silent at the mention of soulmates.
Shion would often catch his father looking at his own wrist, his expression dark and sad. The name Cecily was painted in a strange red color, one he’d never seen before.
It seemed that both he and his father were cursed in the soulmate department—for normal people with their soulmate’s names on their wrist were depicted in two colors. White symbolized that their soulmate was alive and breathing. Black, well…
Black essentially meant death. A devastating thing, to watch the name of one’s soulmate turn as black as night.
But Shion’s wrist was neither white nor black, just blank, so he could never tell the status of his soulmate or whether they were even destined to exist at all. And he couldn’t even begin to wonder what Rchimedes’ red color signified.
It wasn’t until he finally broke free of the dimensional rift that he understood.
Time passes quickly outside of the rift, and before he knew it a thousand years had gone by while he’d been in slumber. When he woke up, dazed, on the edge of the desert, he moved to rub at his temples—and then he saw it.
A name was written, in hasty but somewhat elegant writing, on the inside of his wrist. Alba was a beautiful white color, nearly blending in with the paleness of his skin. He had to blink and rub his eyes a couple times just to make sure it was real. His soulmate was alive? No, no, of course, it all made sense—he was destined to meet them all along, just not in his own time. Here, a millennia later, his wrist was telling him all he needed to know: his soulmate was here, somewhere, and he was sure that they had a fancy scrawl of Shion on their own wrist. He wondered if his name was invisible as well, but now it appeared white, just as Alba’s name did.
Imagine his shock when he ran into Alba minutes later, on the run from a tornado, no less. Trust his soulmate to get into the worst of trouble right off the bat.
Shion was enamored by him. He was a short kid, with sparkling hazel eyes too full of innocence, and a fashion sense that could be called laughable. Even so, he was brave, willing to put himself at risk even if it meant death. His reckless streak gave Shion a near heart attack on too many occasions. Not to mention he was weak. Having courage didn’t count for much if he didn’t have the physical strength to back it up, so Shion pushed him and pushed him, trying to help him become stronger.
He didn’t tell Alba that he was his soulmate. Not right away, at least. Going by the name “Ros” helped him avoid any questions about his status as Creasion and also allowed him to stay near Alba without putting him in danger. If people knew who he really was (well, the demons, to be more precise), they’d definitely come after him, and he didn’t want to get Alba caught up in that, no matter what.
But, inevitably, it happened anyway.
After Dezember’s attack, Shion watched in sheer horror as the name on his wrist suddenly blotted, like ink was being spilled all over it. The pretty white letters darkened and dimmed until they stood out, a stark contrast to his pale skin, in the deepest black color he’d ever seen. The color of despair. Of loneliness, of loss.
Foyfoy shook him and shook him, but he couldn’t tear his eyes away from the obsidian letters. Alba. He felt like he was going to be sick.
But he knew that if he didn’t do something, then the name Foyfoy on Hime’s wrist would turn black as well.
It was a last second decision, really. Foyfoy landed on the ground in a heap, and Alba sat up like a rocket, eyes wide. The black letters seemed to disintegrate into tiny particles, leaving the name pure and white again. Shion could feel his entire body being flooded with warmth, as if Alba’s life force was pouring into him, and the earlier devastation was being chased away by his sunshine.
He didn’t get a lot of time to enjoy their reunion or the fact that Alba was alive, because Rchimedes needed to be sealed again at any cost, or else he’d wreck havoc on the world. At least, more than he already had by the indirect influence of the demons he created.
Shion knew that if he sealed himself away once more, this would probably be the last time he’d ever see Alba. If a thousand years slipped past once again, his soulmate would be forever lost to time. The mere thought of it left him dizzy and weak. Even so, he gave his best words of encouragement, a gentle nudge reminding his hero to keep moving forward.
Leaving Alba behind was the hardest thing he’d ever had to do. Seeing those pretty brown eyes full of desperation and fear at his declaration of returning to the rift made his heart twist painfully in his chest and his stomach turn upside-down. But for the sake of the world, and for Alba, he had to make some sacrifices. Even if those sacrifices meant he couldn’t achieve a happy ending with the person he treasured the most. If it meant protecting Alba from another terrible fate, this time at the hands of his father, he’d do it. He never wanted to see his skin turn dark as night ever again, under any circumstances.
So he said goodbye.
After that, it’s all a rush. Janua’s there and then he’s not, it’s this strange tan-skinned boy with sharp violet eyes, who turns into Crea and shakes Shion up so badly he can’t even breathe. Rchimedes charges in and Shion hits him so hard with sealing magic that both of them see stars. When he looks up again the sky is blue and he’s surrounded by a grove of trees, breathing in the fresh air.
His heart leaps up to his throat, wondering how much time has passed outside in the real world. He’s terrified to look down at the name on his wrist, not wanting to see it be any other color than—
Alba is still the color of freshly fallen snow, and he breathes a sigh of relief, gently pressing his thumb into the letters. But that still doesn’t guarantee Alba will live for much longer—Shion can’t gauge how much time has gone by. Maybe it’s only been a few months. Or perhaps it’s been years and years, and Alba is lying on his deathbed somewhere, still waiting.
Nevertheless, Shion can’t find him just by standing around. Before long he winds up in the middle of some grand tournament with an arm full of apples, eyes scanning the crowd for any familiar faces.
Shion has never believed in the solidarity of soulmates. But fate is sometimes kind, and it leads him right to the person he’s looking for.
When he comes face to face with Alba once more, he can immediately tell that the boy has changed. No longer is he a baby-faced failure, but standing before him is an actual hero brimming with confidence and strength. Shion can hardly believe that he’s the same person. He looks…different. Older, wiser, more mature. And taller, too—they’re nearly the same height now. That sort of ticks him off.
Alba’s face immediately morphs into one full of tears, his bottom lip trembling and hazel eyes shimmering in the sunlight. Okay, maybe he hasn’t changed entirely, after all.
“You’re here,” he chokes, swallowing down his sobs. “You’re really here. Shion.”
Shion inhales sharply, feeling his own eyes begin to water. So, Alba’s finally figured it out, huh…? Took him long enough. For a self-proclaimed hero, he can be pretty dense.
“It was you all along,” Alba continues, wiping away tears with his sleeve. “You knew the entire time, and you didn’t say a damn thing—”
“I didn’t want to put you in danger,” Shion admits softly.
“That’s no excuse!” He cries out, sniffing with frustration. “Why didn’t you just tell me? We could have figured it out together…!”
“You died because of me,” Shion spits out, his tone dripping with bitterness. “I—I had to watch your name turn black on my wrist. I don’t…” He bites down on his lip and swallows, feeling something expand in his lungs and make his eyes sting.
Alba sighs. It’s long and deep and it makes his face look tired and more aged than ever. “You were just trying to protect me,” he murmurs. “And I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I was so stupid and reckless and that I got killed. But it wasn’t your fault, Shion.”
“Are you even listening, Hero? They were coming after me, they were targeting me—”
“Even if I wasn’t your soulmate I still would have gotten caught up in it anyway!” Alba snaps, trembling. “But you…you left. You left me and you didn’t even bother telling me that you were my goddamn soulmate, and—and—!” He starts to cry again, choking on a sob. Shion’s breath hitches in his throat.
Without warning he surges forward, apples toppling out of his arms as he does, long forgotten. Before he can even think he has his hero pulled into an embrace, and they’re both shaking as Shion runs fingers through his hair.
“Oh my god,” Alba rasps, hugging him tightly. “What if you never came back? What if I had to go the rest of my life without ever seeing you again, what if I died by myself but knowing that you’d been mine all along—”
“Don’t say that,” Shion begs in a moment of weakness. “Please, don’t ever…”
Alba sobs quietly into his chest, and everything is so overwhelming, but it’s warm, warm, and his heart is glowing.
“I don’t ever want to see your name turn black either,” Alba whispers, and Shion grips his wrist so hard he yelps, but he takes it all in stride because this is Shion, Ros, the sadist and the sarcastic, the loyal and his soulmate.
Shion kisses his hair and holds him tight, feeling more relieved than he ever has in his whole life. He smiles as he says, “Black’s not your color anyway, Hero. You should really stop wearing those tacky gloves of yours.”
Alba rolls his eyes fondly, thinking There he is, and nuzzles his face into Shion’s shoulder.
“You’ve grown,” Shion says softly, pressing his lips against Alba’s head over and over. “I’m honestly shocked. The weak hero who couldn’t do anything has become a man.”
“Rude,” Alba squeaks out, his face flushed from Shion’s attention. “Of course I’ve grown. It’s been a whole year since you left.”
“Hero’s catching up to me,” Shion muses. “But you’ve still got a long way to go before you’re known as a legendary masochist.”
Alba groans in exasperation, but it’s cut off when Shion finds a place behind his ear with his mouth that makes him melt.
“I missed you,” the brunette breathes, sighing when those kisses trail down to the underside of his jaw. It’s escaped him that both Rchi and Janua are still there, but they’re being polite and looking the other direction for their sake.
“I wish I could say the same. It was only a few minutes for me,” Shion jokes, laughing when Alba regards him with a face that looks highly offended.
Alba opens his mouth to retort, but soon finds it occupied by another. Shion kisses him slow and sweet, and as they wind and intertwine around each other their wrists press together, the names Alba and Shion almost glowing with the strength of their affection.
When they finally break apart they look equally wrecked, and Alba tries to memorize the flush on Shion’s cheeks and the heat in his crimson eyes.
“I’m never letting you leave me again,” he says hoarsely, his voice cracking. Shion nods and softly brushes his lips against the corner of his mouth. It’s so weird to see Shion this affectionate, but the revelation of them being soulmates and that Shion’s waited a millennia for him makes it all okay.
“I’d be offended if you did, Hero,” Shion chuckles quietly, leaning forward so that their foreheads touch.
Shion has never believed in the solidarity of soulmates. But now, holding his own who is firmly there, he thinks he can start believing, as long as Alba always stays by his side.
I initially wrote a different ending that takes place in the current chapters, Alba was supposed to get caught in a collapsing building saving some kids and he temporarily dies but is revived by his magic, Ros was going to see that his wrist was black again and has a heart attack lol and goes straight to Alba without checking his wrist a second time and has a breakdown crying because he thought he really died this time :’) But then my writing had other plans and led me in this direction instead so
OH AND!! Cecily’s name was red on Rchimedes’ wrist because of the whole transferred to the future not really dead but in his point of time is sort of thing

HEAVENS’ role in UtaPri
First off hello friends and how are we today?  Happy 4th to my friends in the States and have a safe one and to everyone else I hope you have a very lovely day So this post is a bit of an odd one because we are going to talk about HEAVENS.  Now that in and of itself ISN’T “odd” because if you follow me on Youtube or Twitter you know pretty much that is one my big subjects I yap about when trying to play “Detective” to figuring out their backstories before we get the canon material. What is going to follow is me discussing their “role” or position in the UtaPri universe and how we should look at it going forward especially with their inclusion in Dolce Vita READY? GO!!!
So first off start this piece we have to discuss this HEAVENS started as an Antagonistic trio that was formed by Raging back in Season 2 (Maji Love 2000%).  Back then they were the intended roadblock for STARISH to prevent them from winning the UtaPri award and it would be decided in what could only be determined as a “Winner take all” because the loser would have to disband if they lost the competition.  Back then it made sense for STARISH to win especially once you see the OVA where QN would eventually confront their Juniors about challenging them.  This comes to fruition as when we get to to “Revolutions” its the QN that would (originally) be chosen by Shining to represent his company.  STARISH congratulated them but eventually decided they wanted to see if there was any way they could get a shot at being the group to rep Shining in what was called the “Triple S”. This brings us to an interesting point:  What would HEAVENS’ role be IF they came back? Well... We know that in S2 they WERE Antags as a trio but the big question that started to form in my mind was “Are HEAVENS even Antagonists?” and this question would mull around for quite some time.  To be honest its one I legitimately wrestle with because there is A LOT to say otherwise anymore and now when you hear “Rival/Antagonist” it doesn’t make sense (or at least to me) but that is what we are going to explore here See when you look at S3 you have a setup which really muddy the waters and the roles of what group plays what role in the story STARISH is the main group so people can look at them as the Protags...that’s fine!  They have been there since the beginning so no one can look at them at this point and NOT see them like that HOWEVER One thing I thought about is would “Protagonists” try to basically c---block another group or would they be happy for them?  Okay you could argue that for this story to make sense they HAD to because it was their “one chance” (the reason this is in quotes is coming up) to get the spot SO...what happens? Shining decided to put their will to the test and makes them do a “Cross-Unit” project (and even to this day I debate if its a “Proper C-U”) and if they did well enough they MIGHT get an opportunity to compete for it. What happens?  Well we know what happened Originally Shining was  going to be stubborn and refuse them even after their new group song was delivered to him.  They got the spot because QN came in and went “HOLD UP!” and basically MADE Shining put them in!  NOW...this is an interesting thing to see because what QN does SEEMS like a very “Heroic/Protagonist” thing to do BUT what happens after STARISH gets put in....eh we know at this point QN says that if they won they were going to take Haruka from STARISH which...this made no sense BECAUSE Haruka WORKS for the Agency that QN and STARISH work at!  How in the hell does this work from a story perspective? Okay but here’s a better question:  Who the hell is the “Protagonist” in this setup? Okay the obvious answer is STARISH because now they have to defend Haruka again AS WELL AS win the Triple S!  The good news here is, at this point, from a story perspective you could have worked with QN winning and then STARISH picking up the pieces because...even though this op would be gone it might endear them to more people because now they are clawing and fighting their way back to the top and EVERYONE can root for them (and that might be the case now...never discussed that before to be honest). HOLD UP! At the Triple S HEAVENS returns after disappearing from their defeat at the UtaPri awards presenting a new roadblock but now they not only were the roadblock for STARISH but also QN...THIS WAS INTERESTING! When Season 3 ends on the cliffhanger no one knew how the contest would end so knowing who would be the winner (and also knowing Haruka’s fate) would have to wait over a year till S4 Alright before we talk about Season 4 (and a drastic change for HEAVENS) we need to discuss something between Seasons 2 and 3 In Season 2 when Eiichi made the declaration that “After HEAVENS won Haruka would become the composer” you could (justly) be mad at HEAVENS for this because of the idea that, should HEAVENS win, STARISH is disbanded and Haruka is going to Raging’s Agency...fine! I wondered why then when S3 happend (and maybe this happened and I didn’t see it) why there wasn’t as much anger when Reiji basically made the same declaration?  Again maybe it did happen and I didn’t see it but it was weird because with the role that QN SEEMED to be playing only for it to switch at the end was jarring as all hell and made me wonder what we were supposed to think.  Like QN didn’t really do anything “wrong” save make that declaration and this was the same boat HEAVENS was in at the end of S2...confusing to say the least! NOW WE GET TO SEASON 4 So this season in some weird way was going to feature all three units:  STARIS, QN and HEAVENS in what would be HEAVENS’ first full season so we could see what they got! This season muddied the waters a little bit (at least to me) because if HEAVENS’ role is to be “Antags” then shouldn’t ALL of the characters tried to be “Holier than thou/My s**t don’t stink” kind of characters?  Logically that is what you would do but then...it didn’t really manifest itself that way but it DID become a very odd story First off there’s this Raging was the one that introduced the project Since S2 Shining has been the character that we associated with the introduction of the project (UtaPri Awards/Triple S Entry) so this switch made things interesting.  We wouldn’t KNOW what role that he was going to play OR how Shining was going to be used and that left A LOT of uncertainty and it was interesting too because, thinking back to the end of S3 Shining and Raging were standing back to back on top of Shining Tower! THEN THERE IS THIS! The best I can tell (and someone can tell me otherwise) the entire project would be done at Raging’s place.  Now this was interesting ESPECIALLY in the “bookend” episodes which belonged to Tokiya and Otoya!  Its interesting because keep this in mind, for the most part, HEAVENS members tried it seemed to get along with their partner (the two big exceptions I admit were Yams and Shion...at first) and in Tokiya’s case when he saw what “Daddy Dearest” was doing with Otoya...ehhh he wasn’t down for that (and frankly neither was I). The Otoya episode was an interesting bookend for two reasons: 1.  They saved the leaders for last 2.  It showed that “Daddy Dearest” not only had intent on picking off those two anchors BUT we now know he is one of the biggest abusive a--holes on the planet and practically destroyed Eiichi mentally when he was younger and there is a lot of baggage that man has to unpack before anyone can really get close to him! Okay there was one more reason It mirrored Cecil/Shion which is arguably THE MOST IMPORTANT EPISODE in the the project! Oh and there is this Did Shion’s breakdown remind you of anything?  Think back to when Haruka had hers back in the third episode of Series 1...Shion’s episode with his breakdown happened in the THIRD episode of the Project! What I thought was interesting was, as we went through the project, it seemed clear that the writers wanted to change the role that they had been given.  Remember we established back in S2 that they “appeared” to be the Antags but something Raging said struck me when he pretty much told HEAVENS they were disposable to him and that struck me! Here’s why: Shining has had a set role since about S1:  He was the roadblock that STARISH would face in some way to be able to get what they wanted! S1:  Told STARISH they weren’t going to have Nanami as their composer and they weren’t down with that S2:  Threatened to take their spot from them if Cecil didn’t make it back from Angapolis in time (which he does) S3:  Refuses to give them the spot in the audition UNTIL QN comes in and forces him to! What we had NEVER seen until Season 4 was what HEAVENS went through with Raging and starting with Episode 3 (Mighty Aura) what we found out was that Raging was very cunning and manipulative jackass!  Notice I said RAGING and not HEAVENS?  I wonder if they ever knew about any of his “dealings” with idols from other Agencies? When Raging basically tells them he could throw them away it makes sense why Rage was so willing to put them up for disbandment (then as a trio) in Season 2 but Shining was ALSO willing to put up STARISH!  Was that confidence or did he really not want them together?  Remember in S1 (and I almost forgot this) he tried to prevent Nanami from giving the (then 6 boys) a group song with Ringo in tow...I have argued that part of Ringo’s role during Season 1 and 2 has been as Shining’s lackey and I don’t know that that could be argued against.  Maybe it could but if we look at how things are in that office you almost always see Ringo with Shining but rarely Ryuya...I wonder why What’s interesting about the way that things played out in Episode 9 was that I think they wanted to show you that HEAVENS was pretty much mindfucked by Rage a lot and its why they were the way they were.  The part that kind of messed everything up was the EiiOto confrontation later because then people forget the “Why Eii acted the way he did” and more the “Broken Otoya”. This brings me back to HEAVENS though When HEAVENS STARTED in UtaPri they were villains BUT its the WHY that we discovered that now makes me ask the question: When we get to the movie and Dolce Vita...what is HEAVENS’ role? Well this question becomes an interesting one because as we know in the “joint concert” we saw the HEAVENS members on the Triple S stage with STARISH and QN (and I called them “whipped puppies”...debating if I still stand by that) and they were there WITHOUT RAGING BUT The question becomes in my mind this Do the STARISH CHARACTERS see HEAVENS as Rivals or is this game strictly a dangerous chess match between Shining and Raging because, say what you want, but the reality is that moving forward do you think HEAVENS wants to do Raging’s bidding after the hell he put them through? NO! The thing is though that Shining wouldn’t pull the trigger to take them in after KNOWING the BS they were going through (cos you know STARISH had to tell him right?  They didn’t just go to bust in on Raging’s place without his blessing right? So here come the question that we, the UtaPri family, have to answer between now and whenever the movie comes out: What is HEAVENS’ role? Honestly...the way I see it is that they aren’t going to be third wheels much longer.  I think Broc is going to make that attempt to make sure that you care about them and they will do a better job than Season 4 or even 6th stage because I don’t care how much lipstick you put on those pigs...they’re still pigs! I can’t ever call HEAVENS really “Rivals” (and yes reading that on Mamo’s blog made me CRINGE HARD) but what I can call them are two things now Part of the UtaPri family and most importantly MY FAMILY and I am very protective of them as we all know...maybe overprotective but after this past season its easy to see why! Shion sent you a text to make sure you were still coming. He wanted to see you, but he did not want to waste his precious free time.
[To Her ♡ ] Oi, are you coming to meet me? I got us a table already.
[To Shion] I’m on my way! I just had to wrap up my recording!
[To Her ♡ ] Fine. I’ll wait but if you take any longer you’re buying.
[To Shion] I’m coming! You said you were buying!
[To Her ♡ ]

He loved teasing you like this. It was fun to see your little flustered face. It was always so cute! He felt his cheeks flush with color. He should be thinking of something different so you would not be able to pick up on his crush...wait! Idols can’t fall in love...If that is the case then he was on a sinking boat because he was in love.
You found your way to the agreed eating place and found your friend. You walked over to him with a smile. You crushed him in your usual hug for him. He always loved this part of your comings and goings.
“I know you didn’t wait long! Our texts are time stamped!”
“Someone is a little OCD. Don’t worry, I’m paying so you can order your usual. What were you recording?”
“I have a duet with Ai-san. It sounds so good too! He’s so talented. I hope I can be like him one day.”
“You can be better than him.”
Shion could feel the green jelly monster go into his blood. Oh how he wished he was singing the duet of life with you! He covered his face with the menu so he could pout in peace. You had no idea your friend was getting attacked with envy.
“I’m ready~”
“You can sing so much better!! You don’t need him!”
Realizing his outburst he tried to ignore it as if it never happened. You looked him over to see if something was wrong. You reached over and felt his forehead for a temperature check. He felt fine anyway.
“What are you doing?”
“Fevers make people act weird. Are you alright? You’ve been acting weird today.”
“Can we...just eat?”
“Yeah...you know you can tell me anything, right?”
“I know...just later.”
“Ok, Sweety.”
UGH! That pet name made his heart flip every which way but up. He couldn’t hold back his blush as he ate his lunch. With your meal over you noted your friend’s silence. You were outside the restaurant with him and stopped walking. You grabbed his hand to stop him.
“Shion, talk to me. I need to know what’s bothering you.”
“I can’t…”
Next thing you know you found his lips on yours.

Your eyes grew feeling his lips. When...how did this happen? You knew how it happened, but why? Did he have feelings for you? Did you have feelings for him?? Either way a kiss is a kiss. You moved your lips against his until he pulled back. His little face was beyond blushed as he looked down.
“I...I want you to be my princess. I don’t want to share you with anyone. I love you.” You smiled and hugged him. You ran your hair through his fluffy hair and kissed his cheek.
“I would be honored. Be my prince and I’ll be your princess.”
He looked into your eyes and smiled. He finally had a girl to call his own. He remembered someone told him being loved could be so special but...he never thought it would be like this. He hugged you tight and gave your face butterfly kisses.
“I’m so happy you said yes to me. I have to go! I have so many things to do!”
“Wait, what are you doing?”
“It’s a surprise! Meet me at my place tomorrow for lunch. Wear something comfortable because you always look cute.”
You could only watch as your new prince ran off. You shrugged at his unconventional methods. Most guys at least usher their girl home. You went home after him and waited for his lunch date? The day went quickly with your work so the afternoon almost snuck up on you. You went to his place as instructed. With a quick knock you could hear feet padding to the door. You smiled hearing his excitement.
“Princess! Hi.”
“Hey, Prince. What’s this special lunch date?”
“It’s something like that. Come in.” He grabbed your hand and ushered you inside. In the front room was hearts and lots of them. He set up his room with a heart shaped cake, your favorite foods in heart shaped containers, plates shaped like hearts.
“I wanted us to have a special evening tonight. So, can I spoil you tonight, Princess?”
You turned to him with a smile. You hugged him then kissed his lips.
“Yes, only if you share your brownies.”
“I guess I can share those. You’re to cute to resist anyway.”
With another kiss he led you to the couch for a sweet night of cuddles, movies and plenty of treats. Neither of you remembered about Shining’s benefit in part, it had nothing to do with yours. A night was the perfect ending to the day.
