Just saw this post on my dash and wanted to comment on this keeley bit cause i've seen this argument made a few times now and i just feel like i wanna add my own carrots to the soup:

Am i pissed off that people keep forgetting keeley's queer? Absofrigginlutely. Am i pissed off that a character can't casually mention her attraction to women and be taken seriously for it? You BETCHA. But the sad truth is that if i asked my family whether they thought keeley was bisexual and showed them the evidence they'd all go 'it's just a joke'. Which, yeah, is homophobic (rural queer rite of passage 😌) and sucks balls. But to me it proves the point that in mainstream media, we've just not reached the point yet where keeley's off-hand comments about her sexuality are enough to make an audience question its own homophobic bias. And i think it's easy to forget that in our tumblr bubble, as op mentioned in their above post, all of these takes and accusations around whether someone is acting homophobic or not (this applies to tedtrent shippers accusing tedbeccas of homophobia as well, though i've only seen that on twitter so far) are so far removed from the ACTUAL homophobic takes that are prevalent in the larger fandom of white conservative christians who think ted lasso is about how to have a positive attitude towards capitalism. Queer people saying 'i wish the ted lasso writers took keeley's sexuality more seriously' are not the enemy, just as much as queer people saying 'let keeley be silly and goofy about liking women' aren't. It's casual audiences who are so oblivious to any sort of queer insinuation that even if keeley were to kiss rebecca on the mouth, they'd probably call them very good friends. And while i think it's flipping fantastic to see keeley be unashamedly bi while being in a relationship with roy (well yknow, hopefully again soon), wanting something more explicit on tv that will cause obvious discomfort in the very specific homophobic audience niche of sports fans and karens is perfectly valid. AND IT DOESN'T MATTER WHICH CHARACTERS WOULD ENGAGE IN SUCH A PLOTLINE. I think many people flocked to tedtrent because people started laying out (very sparse) arguments within season 1 and 2 that could be read in a queer way and now that not only ted is a main character but also trent a title character the ship was bound to gain more popularity as that's just how these things work. But if in the end tedbeard turned out to be canon i would eat my own arm (out of positive emotion and delight). If colin and isaac turned out to be a couple i might worry that the storyline lasts for 1 episode and nothing more due to the size of their roles, but ultimately i'd sob at the tv and wouldn't shut up about them ever again. It really doesn't matter WHO challenges the general audience as long as it happens. And as much as i love keeley, her comments so far haven't managed to trigger that sort of uproar in the audience that would kick off an avalanche of arguments around queer characters and their space in media (and i wanna specify again that this refers to the general audience, not the queer tumblr-residing one that has obviously had this discussion around keeley). Anyway ted lasso writers, let keeley and jodi balfour's character get nasty on screen please 🫶

(Also, i keep seeing posts insinuating that the tedtrent fandom has turned awful and i'd be much obliged if someone could enlighten me on that front as i don't know whether i'm just entirely oblivious in my own bubble of people but whenever i check the tedtrent tag all i see is gifs, theories for the upcoming episodes or people going 'haha i know i have shit brain fungus but what if')

1. denpa - genre is still alive in my heart. god will strike down kawaii future bass with his righteous thunder. i genuinely think that its kawaii future bass's fault— i know a lot of people blame it on denpa singers becoming vtubers but i dunno, the denpa singers that i know that took on those careers still do denpa stuff ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ on the other hand all the singers that have pivoted to kawaii future bass don't do denpa anymore. 4. synthpop - i feel like this has been dead since the early 2010s but when jpop and kpop were into this sound >>>> (think lovegazer (album) btw its really fucked up how much deco seems to hate this album. ik some of the songs are on the 2008-2014 comp but not all of them... he wants to erase this and his gumi songs so bad. but to me i love this so much its such a strong album)

5. eurobeat - i know god is kind because eurobeat exists

h/m - not really a genre but, DTM music in general - i really fucking love DTM music from the early 90s to mid 00s. i fucking love amateur midi music. i think its natural bc i grew up in a time where midi music was still really common + a lot of my interests (largely subculture) have crossover into music and a lot of producers started off as desktop music nerds or had love for such a subculture. (and ofc a lot of early post-miku vocaloid music had that charming sort of DTMer midi touch to it so its triple the nostalgia) this isnt the most subversive example, but i really love this album like crazy

also another h/m is 2nd gen kpop. i am not a kpop guy, i only had friend's recs in the early 10's— but i have a lot of love for that music and that is what kpop is to me. i don't really like a lot of the current trends (songs almost entirely in english, egregious rapping where none of the members have any flow, everything being girl crush) its just not fun to me. i think current kpop needs to be fun again its too serious, then i might actually get more into it or at least enjoy it as a bystander. more songs like this please

Do you have any advice as to how to make a bigger following to announce upcoming content such as a comic? I know you're working on a comic and you're excited to get it going cause you share your art here and on insta. I guess the more direct question is how did you get your followers? Was it from your fanart or from your ocs? I personally followed because I saw your art style and ocs.

Ummm my following has been built up over a number of years? And I guess it depends on the platform as to where they likely came from.

On all platforms, a good chunk of followers probably came from fanart, likely my VLD days if I were to guess. However, my first like, wave of followers on Instagram actually came from when I did resin charms and crafting.

But yeah, most of my following I'd say came for the fanart, hopefully stayed for all my content. And despite knowing how algorithms and people on social media kinda work, there isn't really a quick way to gain a following. At least, not a consistent one.

You can post fanart and jump on trends and tags and stuff, and that'll definitely help boost your following a bit as its something other people can quickly relate to and latch onto. Its a lot harder to get people to follow for just original content unless you're hitting a niche or market with that original content that people are still interested in.

Consistent posting, across all platforms, is still a good standard to keep if you're wanting to build a somewhat dependable following, just know that it will take time.

As far as promoting upcoming projects and getting people interested in them, I'm not like 100% sure if there's a perfect method to that. For me, I wanna be able to talk and get excited over my stories bc my ADHD brain chases serotonin like its a good meal and therefore if I'm not excited, I don't do them LOL. But I also like seeing others get excited for the content too. So without giving away everything, I try to be fairly transparent about my work and my stories and stuff. I really love interacting with followers and getting to talk and expand on ideas, like through asks, because I don't usually have a lot of time to get to develop stories linearly. There's so much I wanna do but I can't just do it right there and then (partially cus of time, partially because of motivation, partially cus of performance anxiety) so getting to sprinkle through my stories and plans is fun and also helps me think about aspects of them I may not have originally.

Also even though I post 90% sketches, TYPICALLY i think cleaner work performs better on Tumblr??? but that's kind of a vague theory, my sketches always do better but if its what I usually post and what people expect, then of course that's what will do better anyway. Plus they're usually somewhat sequential, like mini-comics.

Social media, especially art posting, is a big gambit with only some mostly tried and true methods of operating. My best advice is just to take it gradually, don't get discouraged by numbers, and don't depend on numbers to validate your interest in your art or your stories.

Any tips for someone who has just opened a Tumblr account and has like zero followers? I'm asking cause it was an impromptu decision to write fics hehe. I don't know how to reach out to people? I've just like posted a masterlist with summary of some stories I've in mind. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you.

Hi, anon! Honestly, everyone's experience on this site is different. I know some (very few) blogs receive 1,000 notes on their first post, while other (most) blogs slowly build up notes and followers over time. I was definitely the latter, it took me 5-6 years to gain my current follower base, so try to go into this with that in mind. A few tips:

1. Post. I know this seems fairly obvious, but the only way to start is to start. Post your writing.

2. Post frequently and consistently. To a certain extent, being seen is a numbers game. You can have the best writing out there, but if you only ever post one thing, the odds of it hitting that sweet spot where people find it in the tags is less.

3. Post on a schedule, if possible. This is especially helpful when you're just starting out, as it lets people know when to check back on your blog. I used to post every four days. I know other blogs who posted once a week on a set day.

4. Tag appropriately. The Tumblr tag system sucks, but use it to the best of your ability! For a Jungkook smut, tag "Jungkook smut," "Jungkook fanfic," "Jungkook writing," "Jungkook one shot," "Jungkook x reader" and so on, and so forth.

5. Join networks / discord servers where you can promote your work. This... I will recommend with a grain of salt lol. There can be a lot of drama from networks/servers, but they are a good way to meet other writers and promote your own work. Networks will reblog your work to other readers/writers, and discord servers usually have a channel for you to post your fics when you finish.

6. Take requests / use prompts. These can be super helpful when you're starting out! Until you gain your own follower base, taking requests from readers means at least one person will be reading your writing/hopefully sharing your work. That can often be the kind of motivation which leads you to write more.

7. Take this piece of advice with more grains of salt, but we all know there are AU's and tropes which are searched more than others. Fantasy can be a hard genre to start off with. Heavy angst has loud readers, but fewer readers (you'll get feedback, but lower note count). More people search for smut than non-smut. I don't want to say don't write what you want -- ultimately, the best part of fanfic is you can write whatever you want. But. If you do have niche interests, it just means fewer people will search for that type of writing. Again, it's not a bad thing, but it's something to think about. Once you have an established following, it's a bit easier to take risks in terms of genre/style.

Ultimately, try and have fun and enjoy the experience! Try not to compare yourself to other blogs you see. They've likely been posting for longer and have put in a lot of work to generate the follower count they have. Don't set specific follower goals for yourself, but do celebrate once they come! Just keep working hard and eventually, people will follow. Wishing you all the best with your writing, babe!

Hopefully I don't need to explain what's fucked about this but I've been asked 'what's wrong with me' since I was like...8? And that's not good for a child? A child doesn't understand medical jargon? Now I get so nervous around little kids because nobody told their kids that my medical history--which later became quite traumatic in some ways--isn't their business, but sure! Complain about people wanting to know if they can feel safe around you!

@munchiezxx posted about the idea of Movie!Emma having an internet following like an aesthetic Tumblr or a YouTube channel for her music and I’m having like a thousand thoughts about it so here are some headcanons under the cut cause I went off.

-Has probably had Tumblr for eons 

-Loves the cottagecore aesthetic and started out reblogging pretty pictures

-Her 15 followers at the time encouraged her to make her own stuff

-She had no other friends, so why not. Editing the photos is fun enough anyway

-Gained a decent following

-Eventually she starts dabbling in taking her own photos, and not just for her blog.

 -When she starts dating Alyssa she takes a thousand photos of them together

-Alyssa agrees that the ones that don’t have her face in them can go on Emma’s blog if she wants

-Then she makes a separate blog for her photos outside of cottagecore, which her followers love

-She kinda dips from the internet for a bit during canon and randomly comes back with a link to her video and includes something like “hey guys. sorry i haven’t been active in a bit but ive been working on something and itd mean the world to me if you support it. dont be too harsh cause i haven’t actually sang anything since i stopped doing choir at church” in the text of the post

-And then her followers are literally so shook about this girl actually having a face and an incredible voice and they spam her askbox telling her to post more

-This gets so insane she eventually makes another post like “please stop yelling at me im working on it i have a life too”

-her next video she dedicates to Alyssa directly and its just a simple cover of Photograph by Ed Sheeran, at the end of which she reveals she’s going to NYC for a photography program and they won’t have to do long distance

-her aesthetic blog peters out in college but she’s still giving her followers content between her original work and the occasional cover or original song

-its a very subtle kind of internet fame after the Unruly Heart buzz dies down and honestly she prefers that, she has a small but dedicated group who tune into everything she does and that’s all she needs.
