Hi, I was wondering if you could recommend some good Yunmeng siblings angsty fics? I recently got into this fandom and I struggle to find good fanfic centered around this trio.
An opportunity to flood the dash with fic recs? Why yes, don’t mind if I do!
Disclaimer: I read mostly death-interlude and post-canon Yunmeng Shuangjie fics, so a lot of that sib angst has to do with Jiang Yanli not being there anymore. (She really was the glue that held their three pieces together. 💔) I also lean heavily on reconciliation and happy ending fics. This is all to say that these may or may not fall under what you’re looking for.
little flowers and small nothings in spring by CeliaBlair24 (11.2K)
“It’ll be easy for me, little brother. All I have to do is close my eyes.” There’s a scream lodged in his throat that he can’t let out, even if he wants to.
MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH. Something went wrong with the golden core transfer. Jiang Cheng-centric. Jiang Yanli is alive. The angstiest, most gut-wrenching, beautifully written story I have ever read. It’s gorgeous and so fucking good, but it utterly wrecked me. I haven’t been able to read it again.
murky waters and many envies by newamsterdam (8.4K/21.1K)
He tries for a smile, but it’s strained, like when he would try and convince Jiang Cheng that his injuries weren’t really much to worry about. (If they weren’t serious at all, Wei WuXian would exaggerate his pains and make Jiang Cheng care for him. It was only the real hurts that had to be hidden, downplayed.) “I don’t wish to cause you any more trouble, or grief. We can just be… strangers, again.”
Good angst. Good stupid, stupid Twin Idiots angst. Novel-compliant. Jin Ling locks them in a closet without their magical powers and weapons. The sequel is a night hunt with, you guessed it, Jin Ling. Amazingly written. Two of my all-time favorites.
The Heart’s Reasoning by flowercity (11.5K)
“What…” A weak voice sounds near his ear followed by an equally weak grasp on his collar, “What are you doing, Jiang Cheng…”
“Shut up!” He snaps, pulling him closer, “Shut the fuck up, I don’t fucking know what I’m doing!”
Jiang Cheng-centric. Novel-compliant. Jiang Cheng saves Wei Wuxian at Burial Mounds and then agonizes over it through 11K words lmfao. Lots of feels. Just superb.
The Way Home by monoquist (1.9K)
But night after night, you’re still waiting at the pier, alone with your memories and a solitary lantern calling out to boats that will never return to shore.
Jiang Cheng-centric. (I’m beginning to see a pattern here…) Jiang Cheng working through some feelings. Some of the lines in this fic are just gut-wrenching. Good angst. Good ending.
Where the Lotuses Lie by dirtybinary (3.1K)
“Look at you,” he says. “Look at us. If we die in some stinking river cave in the ass-end of nowhere because we were quarreling, Shijie’s going to be so mad.”
Jin Ling disappears, and Jiang Cheng ropes Wei Wuxian into helping him. Not really angst. Just very amusing, and very Twin Idiots.
détente and the only way out by cafecliche (3.9K/12.2K)
Wei Wuxian is sitting up before he’s fully awake, a move he sorely regrets about two seconds later. “What?” he rasps. There’s a hand on each of his shoulders, gripping tightly. “What’s happening? Are you okay?”
Wei Wuxian has a cold and has to stay at Lotus Pier (read: Jin Ling). Sequel is Wei Wuxian trying to keep Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji from killing each other.  Again, not heavy angst. Instead, it’s that low simmer of feelings that occasionally boils up and punches you in the face.
before you stumble by Anonymous (9.8K)
Wei Wuxian has always hated these sorts of things, courtesy and ritual and good manners, and yet here he is, making an effort for Jiang Cheng. Because he probably thinks that Jiang Cheng would take any excuse to kick him out. Because he thinks -
Jiang Cheng thinks -
Jiang Cheng abruptly forces himself to stop thinking.
Twin Idiots once again on a night hunt because of Jin Ling. I love this theme so much. Light angst. Jiang Cheng and his many suffering feelings. It’s fabulous.
everyone else is spring bound by Lise (18.3K)
It matters because he’s trouble and trouble follows him. It matters because he’s reckless and stupid and you could get hurt because of that.
He knew both of those were unfair, and not entirely true. He knew Wei Wuxian wouldn’t put Jin Ling in danger, not deliberately. He knew the real answer was: it matters to me because I’m his younger brother, we grew up together, and he hasn’t visited me even once.
I can’t make a Yunmeng sib fic rec list without including a fic from @veliseraptor who wrote this gorgeous 18K gem of Jiang Cheng and his many, many feelings. Amazingly written. Light angst. All the many different internal conversations Jiang Cheng has with himself while he struggles to like, emote in more ways than sharp anger was, just, so, so good. Anyway, please read it, then everything else she’s written.
I hope these satisfy your reading needs for the moment, anon! I have paused my regular ao3 perusal of more Yunmeng Shuangjie, so many of these are old goodies, but still excellent reads. If someone else wants to chime in with more full trio-centric fics, please do!!

47: What is your favorite type of porn? Vocal/Amature.
48: Do you like oral sex? (why/why not) I do, both giving and receiving. Why does anyone like anything? Because it feels fabulous, when done correctly.
49: How do you feel about tattoos on someone you are interested in? I don’t care either way.
50: How would you feel about taking someones virginity? If I were going to, I’d have made sure I was committed to at least being in that person’s life in some capacity. I don’t believe in doing something like that and ditching.

55: Do you feel comfortable going “commando”? Perhaps ;).
56: Would you have a problem with going down on someone if they hadn’t shaved their pubic hair? I prefer it to be at least trimmed, but it wouldn’t stop me, no. Ultimately it is just a preference, not anything I’d ever make a fuss about.
57: If you could give yourself head, would you? ....Maybe? What in the world?
58: Booty or Boobs? Booty.
59: Have you ever cheated on someone? (Why?) Absolutely not.
60: What is your dirtiest sexual fantasy? Truthfully, to be used for sexual gratification. Just...Hard, rough, fast sex.

82. Are you into any BDSM? I am, yes.
83. Have you ever wanted to have sex with someone but knew you couldnt for any reason? Why? I’ve been attracted to people I haven’t slept with, because the feelings were not returned.
84. Do you like dirty talk? Yes.
85. Are you loud or quiet during sex? Masturbation? I tend to be a little loud.
86. Have you ever been interrupted during sex or masturbation? Who/what? I have not.
87. What kind of porn do you like to watch? Vocal/Amature.
88. Have you ever confessed to someone that you got an erection over them? What about masturbated to them? No, I haven’t. I could though. I’m sure he’d enjoy that.
89. Have you ever masturbated because your sexual partner wasn’t there when you needed them? I have.
90. Have you ever had a one night stand? Do you still keep in contact with them? No, I have not.
91. Have you ever had a friends with benefits? Are they still beneficial? I have. No, they are not.
92. Any kinks you’ve always wanted to try but haven’t? I’m not sure. Perhaps some form of pet play.
93. How should someone who is interested in sleeping with you approach the topic? Unless they’re Thomas, I’d prefer they didn’t.
94. What are your absolute no-nos in bed? Oh, the usual. I don’t like bodily fluids of the non-sexual variety. No bathroom stuff. No weapons.
95. How do you feel about quickies? Yes, I love them. I think quickies are hot, to be honest.
96. Have you ever tried roleplay in bed? Would you? I haven’t, but I would.
97. Describe the best orgasm you’ve ever had. What were you doing? Alone or with someone else? What made it so good? It was intense, to say the absolute least. My whole body felt like it was on fire, and I couldn’t stop shaking. It was with Thomas, the night we made our bond.
98. Have you ever filmed yourself while masturbating or having sex? I have not.
99. Lights on or lights off? Lights on.
100. What would you like to do more of in bed? Everything. Anything.

Evens for the opera asks? Thank you!!
Thank you! Here they are, finally. (Under the cut for length.)
#2, 4, 6, 8, 10: [Already answered!]
12. Favorite clueless tenor?
It’s a tie between Hoffmann (Les contes d’Hoffmann) and the Duke of Dunstable (Gilbert & Sullivan’s Patience).
14. A mezzo-soprano character you love?
Marfa in Khovanshchina. The three basses may be more politically/historically significant, but Marfa is the heart of this opera (and she gets some fantastic music!).
16. Create a hypothetical opera adaptation off of a classic novel (and cast it if you want!)
Edward Rutherfurd’s historical novels could be interesting material. (*checks shelf* I have two: Sarum and Russka.) The structure is a series of novellas, with each novella set in a different historical period, but always centered on a particular location and the same set of (fictional) families, so that you’re following them across time and seeing how they’re affected by history. You’d have to narrow the scope for an opera, maybe choose one particular novella, or a small set of scenes across eras where there are strong thematic parallels. I haven’t engaged with these books in a while, but I remember being moved to set passages to music when I was reading them, like arias from a hypothetical opera.
18. Best tenor/baritone relationship?
Skula and Yeroshka in Prince Igor are not particularly nice people, and I’m not sure I even find them sympathetic, but I’ve always thought they have a certain potential for Shenanigans. (*checks libretto* …oops, Skula is technically a bass.)
20. Favorite tenor singer?
I like Shicoff and Lemeshev a lot. They have pretty different timbres, so I like them in different sorts of things. Shicoff sings with so much passion, and has darker colors in his voice. Lemeshev is my go-to for a lot of Russian rep, including art songs. A lighter lyric voice, very well-suited to Lensky.
22. An opera that you do not vibe with. :(
I tried to watch Shchedrin’s Dead Souls when the Mariinsky had it up a few weeks ago, but I couldn’t quite get into it. It looked like a very dynamic staging, and I was curious about the folk music elements (I performed an aria from one of his other operas in a college recital once, and that was very folksy, too) — but this score didn’t catch my ear enough, and I was short on time while it was streaming, so I gave it a pass.
24. Favorite opera couple?
I’m not much of a shipper, but I think Ganna and Levko in May Night are a solid pairing. I also find Konchakovna and Vladimir in Prince Igor endearing, but maybe that’s less about character dynamics and more about how fabulously the voices blend in their duet. (Depending on the timbre of your mezzo and your tenor, it can be hard to tell who’s singing which lines! I love that.) I want to ship Olga and Lensky, but some productions of Onegin make that easier than others.
26. Favorite soprano singer?
I heard Krassimira Stoyanova in a few things recently, and thought her voice had some really interesting colors.
28. A character who deserved better?
So many. But isn’t that kind of the point in tragedies?
30. A Shakespeare play you’d like to see as an opera?
The Henry VI plays would be a *mess*, but I’d love to see someone try.
32. Your favorite secondary/minor character in an opera?
The Muse/Nicklausse in Les contes d’Hoffmann. Genderbending trickster sidekick whose goal is to get Hoffmann to stop falling in love with doomed ladies and focus on his writing. This character appeals to me in a lot of ways.
34. What would a gender-swapped version of your favorite opera (or any opera of your choice) look like?
Fun fact: There’s a discarded stanza from near the beginning of Ch.3 of the novel where Pushkin considered having Onegin fall in love with Tatyana after their first meeting, instead of the other way around. Maybe a gender-swapped Onegin could play off of that alternate storyline in some way? (I’m picturing a massive rewrite of the opera, with themes repurposed in meaningful ways. It would be highly controversial to a lot of people, but if done well it could be great fun.)
36. Favorite opera trope?
When they hang a lampshade on the tropes. Gilbert & Sullivan are very good at this.
38. Favorite mezzo-soprano singer?
Olga Borodina. A luxurious voice, somehow dark and bright at the same time.
40. You can steal one costume from an opera production to keep — what is it?
A few years ago, the local opera company had a costume sale to clear out some of their storage. I got this cravat for very cheap. It goes well with a number of my waistcoats and I have found many occasions to wear it.
Tumblr media
42. Talk about an opera that you don’t normally talk about.
I watched a really interesting production of Charpentier’s David et Jonathas several years ago. The ballet sequences were repurposed into a series of staged flashbacks, which (among other things) introduced Saul’s wife and showed her death before the events of the main story. Then, in the scene where Saul consults with the Pythoness, the tenor who played the Pythoness was dressed as Saul’s wife. But his mannerisms made him read as some kind of otherworldly trickster. There was very much an unsettling sense of what are you and why are you wearing her face? The chorus women were also all dressed as Saul’s wife, and they drifted mindlessly around him as the walls of the set kept shifting and repartitioning into different rooms. The effect was fantastically creepy and contributed to the theme of Saul’s madness. I have no idea what this scene is usually like in a more traditional production.
44. An opera character you’d want for a best friend?
Muse/Nicklausse, again.
46. An opera you love more for the plot than for the music?
I saw the local opera company do Britten’s The Turn of the Screw a couple years ago. It was a very compelling piece of theater — wonderful acting from all the leads, shapeshifting dreamscape of a set. The music made very little impression on me.
48. Most musically difficult role you’ve seen/heard thus far?
Hermann in The Queen of Spades. He’s onstage almost constantly, and sings in every. single. scene. That must take incredible stamina.
50. An opera you’d recommend to opera newbies?
Maybe I’m not the best person to ask. I know what I like and I’m always excited to share my faves with people who seem interested, but the set of operas I’m familiar with is a little skewed. (As you can see by my other responses!)

If you’re new around here, Things I’ve Read Recently is a series of posts I do that are basically mini-reviews of books that I either forgot to review, didn’t have enough to say for a full review, or just didn’t want to do a full post about for whatever reason.
I worked in a thrift store all summer and I had like a half hour lunch break. And doing nothing but eating alone is boring, so I read a bunch of magazines and then started bringing a book.
Now, I didn’t feel like taking notes while I ate, so I didn’t bring any review books. And I didn’t really feel like reading anything… you know, good. So I looked at my physical to-read stack and my book shelves and mostly found whatever looked trashiest. Never underestimate the power of good trash. Sometimes you need to read something that doesn’t make you think. At all.
So let’s talk about what I read this summer!
(Note: As I said, I didn’t take notes on any of these, so I don’t have notes to do content warnings. There’s like murder in most of them, and fatmisia and racism stuff. It’s trash, don’t be surprised by dumpster fires. Assume there’s no diversity in most of these.)
Killing Britney by Sean Olin
Published: July 1st, 2005 by Simon Pulse Genre: YA Thriller Binding: Paperback Page Count: 234 with no extras at all, actually Part of a series? Nope Got via: I wanna say thrift sale or yard sale. I own it and I don’t think I bought it online or anything.
Summary (from goodreads): Britney is the girl everyone loves to hate.
Ever since Britney transformed herself from freak-and-geek to the most popular girl at school, her life has been touched by tragedy. First it was her mom, who drowned on a family rafting trip. Then her hockey-star boyfriend, Ricky, was killed in a hit-and-run.
When the deaths continue to pile up, everyone fears for Britney. Sure she’s popular, blond, and fabulous.
But is that enough reason for someone to want to… kill her?
Thoughts: This was trash. It’s very clearly written by a man who had possibly never spoken to a teenage girl when he wrote this. Maybe because of the time period it was written plus that it’s written in third person, but it does have a kind of removed feeling. Which works for the “twist” ending (it’s a really predictable twist), but normally isn’t my favourite.
At the same time though it kind of worked for how my mindset was when I read it? I didn’t really want to connect to the characters. I just wanted to be entertained for a short period of time while I ate.
Also apparently this won an award for being appealing to reluctant readers, and I can totally see that. This was actually recommended to me by a friend like fifteen years ago. (I can remember that, but I can’t remember where I put my tweezers. Why is my brain like this?) That friend wasn’t a huge reader, but apparently liked this and thought I would.
Well, friend, fifteen years later, you weren’t wrong! Five dumpsters out of five.
(No, I’m kidding, I’m not rating these.)
The Betrayal of Natalie Hargrove by Lauren Kate
Published: November 12th, 2009 by Razorbill Genre: YA Thriller Binding: Paperback Page Count: 235 plus an excerpt for a book by a different author and an add for the Kissing List. Part of a series? Nope. Got via: I think I actually bought it from amazon.
Summary (from goodreads): All it takes is one fatal mistake…
High-school beauty Natalie Hargrove has spent years plotting to become prom queen. She’s got just what it takes: popularity, glamour and ruthless ambition.
When someone threatens to overturn her perfect plan, Natalie needs to take control. So she convinces her boyfriend Mike to help play a prank on her nemesis, Justin… one that goes terribly wrong, and Justin ends up dead.
Natalie is plunged into a sea of secrets, shame and scandal.
Because it turns out there’s one thing even Natalie Hargrove can’t command – and that’s fate…
Thoughts: This was also trash! Not my favourite trash of the bunch here, but it was good enough for what it was. I actually thought the setting of this was really interesting. It’s set in… Charleston. I don’t know where that is. One second.
So it’s set in South Carolina! And takes place around Mardi Gras and has a whole bunch of southern high school traditions that I wasn’t really aware of. Do you remember that book I read last year, Ruined? It kind of reminded me of that, but, like, trashy CW teen show content instead of a ghost story.
Seriously with how popular Fallen was I’m surprised this was never made into a terrible movie. It’d be kind of fun to watch, honestly. Lots of teen drinking and sex, some murder, lots of drama, all that jazz. Not my favourite, but it worked for when I was reading it.
Traveling On into the Light: and Other Stories by Martha Brooks
Published: September 1st, 1994 by Groundwood Books Genre: Contemporary YA Short Story Anthology Binding: Hardcover Page Count: 146 plus an about the author Part of a series? No, but one of the stories was expanded into a book called Being With Henry Got via: I have no idea. I’ve had it forever, and there are not library marks or anything.
Summary (from goodreads): The miracle of unexpected connections and small victories that enlarge and transform shines forth in this haunting collection.
Here are teenagers on the brink of discovery: Jamie, who comes to understand that the lost can be found in unexpected ways when he goes looking for his dead father and finds a living memory instead; Laker, a runaway able to face his mother’s rejection because of the kindness of a total stranger; and Sidonie, who, threatened with the loss of the love that made her feel safe, discovers she can survive and face the unknown.
Out of alienation, isolation, and loss coms hope for the future in the support of friends, family, or lovers, the healing power of memory, or the sanctity of a safe place from which personal dragons can finally be faced.
Thoughts: This actually wasn’t trash. I grabbed it because it was in the box in my closet, and short stories seemed easy to read in small bursts. It’s actually pretty good. It’s older, so some of the stories obviously haven’t aged the best, but looking at it in the context of it being twenty-five years old (and most of the stories older), it’s not a big deal.
Also, like, props for this actually having queer characters? One of the characters in one of the stories has a father who has somewhat recently come out as gay and begun a new relationship. While normally that’s a plot I find a bit tiresome, for the early 90s, it’s handled pretty well.
I’m probably not going to keep this as I don’t feel any urgent need to reread it, but it was good enough.
Speaking of the 90s…
Obsessed by Jo Gibson
Published: This bind-up was released May 27th, 2014 by K-Teen Books which is a division of Kensington. We’ll talk about the original pub dates in the review. Genre: YA Thriller Binding: Paperback Page Count: 356 plus an excerpt from the next book, which we’ll talk about. Part of a series? This contains the books The Crush and the Crush II. Got via: Yard sale!
Summary (from goodreads): From master of suspense Jo Gibson comes two heart-stopping novels of romantic obsession–where the love never dies. It kills. . .
The Crush
Michael Barton is smart, sweet, gorgeous–the total package. Which is why some of the girls have decided to have a little contest. Whoever hooks up with Michael first will be the winner. There’s just one problem. One of the girls has been harboring a secret crush on Michael for years. She’ll do anything to be his girlfriend. She’ll play the game. She’ll win his heart. She’ll beat the competition. . .to death.
The Crush II
Michael Barton has experienced the dark side of love. He has survived the advances of a psychotic stalker. He has endured her deadly game of obsession. And now he is free from her web of lust and lies. But Michael has a surprise waiting for him. His secret admirer is still out there. Watching. Waiting. Plotting her next move. And if Michael thinks he can escape her this time, he’s wrong. . .dead wrong.
Thoughts: Originally the two books that make up this bind-up were published in 1994 by Zebra, specifically from their Scream Line. You may or may not know this, so let’s talk a bit about Zebra, because this is very interesting. Zebra, which is also a division of Kensington, mostly started as a romance publisher. In the 80s and 90s, however, they were quite successful publishing westerns and horror novels. They apparently (I can’t find too much information on it) had a line called “Scream”, which seems to have been somewhat similar to Point Horror line, but clearly not as popular.
The other interesting fact about this book? Jo Gibson is also known as Joanne Fluke, who writes the Hannah Swensen series. I find that so interesting. There’s also an excerpt for her… I think only non-cozy adult book, The Other Child, at the back of this book. Which is just such random advertising!
This is kind of trash, but it’s trash in a very specific way. Honestly, I did not realize that was such an old book when I started reading it, since I literally grabbed it because of the cover. It wasn’t until I got to a part about how cellphones were so expensive and unusual that I was like “what the hey?” and actually checked the publication date.
This is 90s teen pulp horror. You don’t go into this expecting a good book. The characters are barely characters, there’s a ton of 90s isms, the plot is ridiculously predictable, and it’s not remotely scary as an adult. You gotta think about being twelve and reading this with barbecue chips on a Friday night when you’re still young enough that staying up late on a Friday is a treat.
I also wanna just talk about these covers.
Why are her fingernails so long?? That’s not a thing in the book at all. There’s absoluely no sense to it. I love it.
This was great! I’m actually gonna keep this and I would love to get my hands on the other bind-ups of her books. I’m super charmed by this.
Well, that was fun! What did y’all think of this round-up?
Peace and cookies, Laina
Things I’ve Read Recently (89): Stuff I read at lunch at my summer job that was mostly kind of trashy If you're new around here, Things I've Read Recently is a series of posts I do that are basically mini-reviews of books that I either forgot to review, didn't have enough to say for a full review, or just didn't want to do a full post about for whatever reason.

WOW!Why Every Judge Backed Up This Product??!!
Tumblr media
(ET,Thursday, August 16, 2018 ) - It was the most watched episode in Shark Tank history when Trevor Hiltbrand, a Stanford University Student, nets the biggest deal in Shark Tank history as all 5 sharks teamed up to buy 25% of the company for a staggering $2.5 million dollars! After taking over the emerging health industry in just 6 months, he is now ready to take over the world with the help of the sharks. After a complete re-brand and re-packaging, Trevor is now ready to launch the Live Active Garcinia™ in the United States.
Never before had the judging panel unanimously decided to each invest millions of dollars into a potential company.
After buying a staggering 25% share in the Trevor's company, the Shark Tank panel have personally mentored him, helping him undergo re-branding and re-packing of his miracle product.
Touting his discovery as “the greatest step forward in weight-loss history,” the judges were quick to offer up their hard earned cash to back the entrepreneurial young man.
“I was shocked. The most I was hoping for was some advice…I wasn't even sure that I would manage to get any investors,” explained Trevor.
After outstanding offers from each panel member, the young man burst into tears.
“It didn’t feel real. The fact that all these successful, business-minded people wanted to be apart of what We were doing and willing to invest their own money, it was very emotional!” explained Trevor's partner.
The young man is the first contestant in the show’s long duration to ever receive a standing ovation and offers of investment from all panel members. Trevor and his team said they celebrated the success with champagne and cake when the episode wrapped.
The Stanford student was the first contestant in Shark Tank history to receive investment offers from all five panel members.
Since filming the show-stopping episode, Trevor has been hard at work putting the advice of his mentors into play.
“We completely re-branded our company and came up with new packaging,” said Trevor's partner.
This young man's small team recently unveiled the product that netted them millions of dollars in investments.
“The product we displayed on the show have been rebranded into the Live Active Garcinia. It’s the original formula, all we’ve done is change the name and the packaging,” explained Trevor.
These students launched the products for sale through their company website and say they sold out within 5 minutes.
“We even made sure we had more product than we thought we could sell, but all of it sold out within five minutes!” exclaimed Trevor.

Asia is such a fascinating continent. It’s wildly diverse. It’s mountainous, tropical, rural, urban, populous, remote, affordable, expensive, naturally stunning and architecturally beautiful…all at once! I first visited Asia in 2005 when I traveled to India. I immediately overwhelmed by new sights, smells, tastes and sounds. And I also immediately in love with Asia. I traveled to Cambodia in 2009. And then in 2014, my husband and I began to consider a move to Asia, so we started traveling around the continent. We visited about 9 countries in 6 months. We moved to Indonesia in 2015, and it’s been home ever since. I’ve had the great privilege of seeing even more of Asia since living here, so I thought I’d share my top 10 list of places I’ve visited in Asia (so far!) Hopefully it inspires you to see a part of Asia that you haven’t seen yet!
#10 Chiang Mai, Thailand Northern Thailand is delightful, and Chiang Mai is the major city in the region. It’s full of Buddhist temples and delicious street food. We spent 2 months in Chiang Mai in 2014, and even got to celebrate Songkran, the Thai New Year complete with giant water fight! We visited the mountains and rode elephants. It was a beautiful experience and Chiang Mai will always hold a special place in my heart.

#9 Kathmandu, Nepal I’m not sure how I first became fascinated by Nepal. But I’d wanted to go for years. So being able to set foot in Kathmandu in 2014 was amazing. This tiny country sandwiched between mega China and mega India manages to maintain an identity all it’s own. We visited just months before the massive earthquake that devastated many parts of the city and countless lives were lost. I can’t imagine the extent of the impact on the beautiful people & culture of Kathmandu. Given the chance, I would surely return!

#8 Angkor Wat, Cambodia I first traveled to the majestic ancient temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia back in 2009. And then again in 2014. I will never stop being amazed by the scale, scope and wonder of it all. The temple complex is massive, unable to take in during just one day. Angkor Wat almost demands multiple visits. We were able to catch a sunrise at the iconic tiered tower temple, and it was magical.

#7 Shanghai, China I was surprised by Shanghai. I had previously traveled through other large [and smaller] cities in China, and wasn’t sure how I would feel about Shanghai. But it was a beautiful city. We were blessed with stunning blue skies when we visited, which I recognize is pretty rare around cities in China. We walked the ancient streets, traveled to the top of the ultra modern Shanghai Tower, enjoyed the view of the river, and ate delicious dumplings. Shanghai is probably my favorite city in China, and would love to go back for a longer stay!

#6 Golden Triangle, Thailand I love absolutely this northern corner of Thailand that borders Myanmar & Laos. The beautiful Mekong River runs right through here. The towns are small, but the culture is rich. We spent a few weeks here, traveling through villages and crossing the borders of neighboring countries. Recently, this area has been all over the news with the soccer boys trapped in the cave. My heart was filled with joy as they were rescued. As I read & watched the coverage, I was transported back to this place. I simply adore this area of Thailand!

#5 Lombok, Indonesia This stunning tropical island often gets overlooked by the fame of Bali to the west. But Lombok is just as beautiful, and much less of a tourist hotspot. I’ve been here a couple of times, and every time I am captivated by a new aspect of this stunning island. Climb a volcano, discover gorgeous waterfalls, enjoy pristine beaches, eat delicious food and meet incredible people. That’s Lombok.

#4 Ha Long Bay, Vietnam What a naturally stunning place on this planet. The limestone mountains of HaLong Bay are breathtaking to behold. Sure, it’s touristy. Sure, some parts have been overrun with the tourist industry. But even with all that, HaLong Bay is worth the trip. There’s so many ways to do HaLong Bay that you can find one that suits your travel style. Whether it’s cruising in luxury or rock climbing adventures, you can take it the views of the Bay. I’ve been here twice, and soaked in all the natural beauty to behold. And as many times as I can, I will go back to HaLong Bay.

#3 Singapore This city nation is unlike anywhere else in Asia. It has such a cool blend of East meets West. The food you can find in Singapore is simply fabulous. It’s a cross cultural experience to dine in the famous hawker centers of the city. If you love any type of Asian food, you can find it in Singapore. From excellent shopping to incredible skylines, Singapore is not to be missed. I love wandering the city streets and admiring the stunning architecture. I’ve been to Singapore a few times, and each time I love it more!

#2 Hanoi, Vietnam When I first visited Vietnam, I was skeptical. I didn’t know much about it, and had set my expectations pretty low. But every part of Vietnam surprised me…in the best way possible! The food was delicious! The architecture was unique and creative! The culture & people were beautiful. Especially Hanoi. This city just stole my heart. It’s a street photographer’s dream. It’s one of the most affordable places in all of Asia that we’ve visited. I’ve been twice, and would love to return!

#1 Bali, Indonesia Perhaps it’s no surprise that Bali is my number one favorite place in all of Asia. We’ve called it home for over 3 years now. On the surface, Bali can look like the ultimate getaway. It has the reputation of escapism. But for me, it’s where I’ve put down roots. I’ve learned the language. I’m constantly learning the culture. I’m getting to know the people. I’m here to do life with them. I’ve been to their weddings, funerals, birthday parties and tooth filing ceremonies. The Balinese people are simply lovely. To only see the tourist destinations in Bali is to miss so much of what the island has to offer. Get off the beaten path. Ask locals for recommendations of what to see and do. Drink coffee together. Take selfies together. Experience one of the most beautiful places on our planet, both in nature and in people.

Have you been to any of these places in Asia? What did you like about them? Hopefully this list helps inspire you to come over to Asia and experience one of the most wonderful regions of the world!
Counting down my top 10 favorite places I've visited in Asia...so far! Asia is such a fascinating continent. It’s wildly diverse. It’s mountainous, tropical, rural, urban, populous, remote, affordable, expensive, naturally stunning and architecturally beautiful...all at once!

Everyone loves Corelle!! It’s featherweight, conveniently stackable and an excellent option for my requirements.
Everyone loves Corelle!! It’s featherweight, conveniently stackable and an excellent option for my requirements.
Really unhappy when using the cups (these were created in The far east). They are simply reducing their blue colored color selection. The dishes and dishes are very good (they had been built in America).
To have an new residence, in this situation for recently-weds. The layouts are presently so different and amazing it’s turn out to be hard to solitary 1 out. I actually do ignore glasses and saucers–but our company is now particularly useful to the cups. These meals enter in the dish-washer, the microwave oven, and keep on being the colourAndnbsp;immediately after several years. They generally do not disappear.
They are certainly not fairly as many as Corelle’s assumed good quality. Have realized terrible glazing in locations on many of the servings and a number of the evening meal dishes certainly are a bit irregular. Nevertheless, for every single day use and comfort of washing, and simply being compact when compared to the stoneware we received recently, they are really very good. Perform including the cups greater for capacity and coping with far better than the dinky Corelle from decades earlier.
I really enjoy these meals! These are so light source and straightforward to take care of. They also have stylish shapes. With all of the data of late about recycled plastic ware not in good health make use of with diet the Corelle will give me fantastic ease and comfort and peacefulness.
Enjoy these recipes. They happen to be gentle together with the design is actually comparatively.
I like this set in place, nonetheless its every day life is just short.
Right after 4 mos of mindfully use and fretting hand clean up, the dishes and dishes scraped. I can begin to see the metallic underneath the enamel layer. Really let down.
Also, amazon . com site is attractive plenty of to subject the warrantee, which is actually a return.
Pretty doubtful about corelle high-quality from now on. I like this arranged also have a for just a spherical two decades. Fairly long lasting and lovely.
My Corelle Dinnerware Establish emerged tightly twisted in addition to new ailment. I had delay this invest in for quite a while. I needed The far east however it is so high priced. The Corelle is stunning. I don’t take a meal washing machine as a result it spots the kitchen sink as well as being not remedied like chinese suppliers. It is not necessarily delicate! I got 2 packages with the intention that basically if i shattered one or two I wouldn’t must structure a lot more without delay. An additional factor, basically if i performed crack a little something, I will change it by discovering an individual reselling their own on Amazon marketplace. The variety of habits can even come together, at the very least in my view they might. One and only thing I ignore can be described as saucer for those mug. Nevertheless I required a mug and they also don’t come along with saucers. I am just not sorry I purchased the cups, They believe terrific within your fingers which has a warmer enjoy with them. That concerns in my experience with a frosty day time! Appreciate it, Linda
Regular food merely weigh up far too much for my spouse to elevate and bear upon her surgical treatments. Attaining roughly shelving to eliminate recipes was easily way too hard in her shoulder joint. These load the expense properly. They are simply light and portable and check wonderful – we couldn’t be more comfortable using our choose. We acquired two offerings – all dishes, servings, saucers for example., turned up in top condition – no potato chips or smashes.
I proceeded to go straight back to Corelle. I needed a really pricy group of Pfaltzgraff. It had been amazing, nevertheless it really chipped very easily, thus i made the decision to return to Corelle. I needed my other established for a few years and do not stood a chipped or broken down chunk. Like it and definately will keep it going.
enjoy these, really lighting with you and a second click the ground but by no means best white dinnerware shattered
Excellent for each day – absolutely love the dishes (the bigger the first is greater than the slightly older type of Corelle, that i am thrilled with). The lesser dishes are fantastic for toast during the morning. We have ample dishes but the are best for section command ;), plus the a cup of coffee cups are considered the just ultimate. Absolutely love the retail price and all about these
Affection this arranged. It appeared a little bit of “ancient girl”-ish while in the snap shots initially when i first purchased it, however, if it landed I fully transformed my thoughts about that. It seems a whole lot better physically which is very tough. My dads and moms hold the Corelle fixed aided by the berry on there and they’ve obtained it consistently without the troubles. However these are folks that decline to utilise cutlery along with other barbecuing implements considering they can’t be make the dishwashing machine, so they are certainly not highly emotional or attentive relating to food.
I prefer these and acquired them considering that I love how easy to carry they are simply, but they also do keep along within the water, not really that ideal for a nail biter rofl It’s a little bit of tricky to buy them aside!!! Basically If I experienced fingernails, it becomes a simple process!
I had generally beloved Corelle Ware and also have tried it for ages. It unquestionably attained my anticipations. Excellent is definitely fine. I found myself only let down every time a working week just after I got myself it the retail price lowered from $40 right down to $26 for exactly the same arranged. How on the globe managed to do which happen?
We picked up two groups of these plates for my Mum on her birthday celebration and she appreciates them. We certainly have friends and family dishes at Mums on a regular basis so these include employed like regular cuisine plus they are incredibly sturdy. The flavored coffee cups are particularly attractive intense-task stoneware. The foods are light-weight plus they thoroughly clean up very well. I might strongly recommend these meals to every person. We have used them regular and in addition we are content with them.
These containers are ideal for us. Compact but heavy duty. Paid for extra products to accommodate ever since the dishes are small-scale. You can find a breakfast cereal serving intended included in this tendency and therefore i picked up bare bright Corelle assisting dishes simply because are an even better worth as opposed to State Bungalow dishes.
This is the next collection of these I ordered. I needed at first ordered these for my families as being a Xmas treat a couple of in the past nonetheless they previously had presently picked up their and permit me to make them. So thankful they would bring about I adore them a great deal of we possessed to obtain more! They also have as picked up 3 units of their very own. These are fairly strong. I’ve fallen the dishes just before without having to break. Wonderful!
I am just pretty frustrated because of this goods,Single serving chipped at the same time heating up in micro-wave together with other one out of the diswasher.
I really enjoy Corelle- I preferred this sequence. Spotted them web based- got a Amazon . com site Surprise Charge card- so in fact it charge me $4.79 out from my budget. So for $4.79 will never whine. But within the retailer I bought these from- they seem to be a little flawed/unnatural. A small number of items 1 larger dish and two dishes look “warped”. But other then that. really enjoy them.
I assumed I’d blog post this overview soon after I lowered a soapy serving with the house basin around the tiled floorboards last night. It created a serious racket and so i was particular it was actually broken down, but it surely wasn’t. I’ve possessed this looking for half a year now, and am thrilled using it. No food items unsightly stains, safe for use with the micro-wave and dish washer and relatively stop immune!
Market price was fantastic but a lot better than that would be their overall flexibility, micro-wave, cooker and so forth .. They happen to be light-weight Andamp; don’t use up the most space or room as my previous recipes managed. The trend is fabulous Andamp; I adore that. The mug is an effective dimension without having to be so large that my senior less strong possession can’t manage. They coordinate the cups very well at the same time
This type of adorable habit. I’ve blended many elements of the wintertime Frost Bright along with them and it also meets up appropriately. I journeyed from large stoneware to such really light foods and haven’t regretted it for one moment. As well as, they’re basically unbreakable.
It’s not too high quality (low cost appearing) but can be a fine established for realistic use. I will apply it regularly from home however i wouldn’t apply it for a proper celebration.I do think it’s terrific supplement towards the total price!
We enjoyed this plenty of we bought a 2nd placed. We have a set up at our next dwelling. Ideal for micro-wave. We don’t utilize it for provider but wonderful to obtain accessible and way, much better than pieces of paper dishes. Pretty long-lasting. Effortless to keep mainly because dishes are so incredibly skinny. Java mug is an effective measurements, also.
Really enjoy this dinnerware. The lite excess fat in the dishes will make it this easy for my partner (who may have joint disease) for our grandkids to take care of. I strongly suggest the crooks to anyone that wants long-lasting every day dinnerware…
Why managed i put it off such a long time to acquire corelle? My mother once had a full large range of corelle. So i never imagined regarding it, right up until i needed obtained very substantial dinners so when i began to clean them (within my unique residential home), i recognise thats a job i had get myself personally with! I am just so thrilled i got these corelle, they really are so gentle and so this precise set in place can be so dainty and attractive. Cleansing them following dinner time is easy because they are so simple to clean and they may be dedicated to the dishwashing machine way too. Currently being microwave oven risk-free, we rely on them to warm up food items to boot. Anything emerged undamaged, no broken or cracked or chipped dishes. Adore them!
I would personally of rendering this a 5 legend ranking but one of the many treat dishes is destroyed currently, might be I used to be overly challenging in it however i didnt know it would crack. Everyone loves having the dishes within the microwave oven to warm-up leftovers and how big the dinner time dishes are appropriate.
good for my remolded your kitchen in granite crafted from dark/green/gold,,, I have to request a different established,,well, i have assistance for 8 Bext Doctor. Lynne
They were an amazing alternative to my former Asia collection. Awesome benefit!
Corelle outstanding and gratifaction happens to be the exact for years and so this is not any exception to this rule. I needed a set up years in the past and also have long gone back in it now to apply exterior for BBQs. A lot better than melamine and dish-washer risk-free on all shelves of your dish washer. Only grievance would be the greens meal will be much smaller compared to it ought to be, alternatively I am just most content with this collection.
I needed a arranged that wasn’t ungainly. I’ve held these for up to yearly and they’ve placed up wonderful throughout a lot of washes in your dish washer. Superb within the micro-wave, at the same time.
This list of cuisine is really worth the funds. Have owned and operated Corelle recipes historically, rather happy with them, they last for many years! Place Bungalow routine is very really! Like the pink tone for the glasses. Love the modification to stoneware through preceding type of glasses, that has been a superficial receptive glass that precipitated caffeine in becoming chilled too quickly, adjust is really a extensive development. Only criticism may be the smaller-sized platter is very small, puts useful to have a sandwich scaled dish rather than a delicacy dimensions. Will nevertheless begin using these but must choose a couple of luncheon dishes in order to make this a very purposeful range containers. But on the whole very happy with the buying, Andamp; endorse these people to any person taking into consideration choosing a sensibly priced collection of day-to-day meals.
I’ve have this dinnerware consistently and called for an additional fixed since you can have never an adequate amount of these containers. They really are so light. I’ve under no circumstances harmed you however immediately after two decades. The senior you will get the a reduced amount of you would want to cope with substantial major recipes.

Ideal minimal couple of foods I obtained for an individual that is aging population. They may be light in weight and also a wonderful layout. This similar established bought from any local retail store for a similar fee but without the servings. This particular one finding the glasses incorporated taught me to purchase it on the net. It came punctually from owner and absolutely nothing was destroyed. A really good shop for.
These meals are incredibly excellent to provide on plus they clean up quite easily at the same time. I really like the lighting excess weight experience together with the layout. Mugs are exactly best dimensions.
I actually have suffered from various types of dinnerware, i am betrothed 44years… and also to exactly the same gentleman far too. The different containers, the dishes, wine glasses, servings, saucers.. were actually chipped. In spite of how cautious I used to be, I’d must chuck them and obtain new. I traveled to a garage area selling, and obtained various dishes, the evening meal dishes.. and i also wanted it a great deal, I proceeded to go over the internet to choose a finished establish. I am just quite content with this remedy and suggest it to everybody focused on a good quality product which persists very long, and appears unique on top of that.
Terrific Corelle superior quality. Straightforward to cleanse, spectacular minimalistic habit, and also that extremely lumination but strong assembly.
Light in weight; pleasing flower structure in the boundary; ideal looking for control that opt for coping with light and portable objects!
Been hanging around for the appropriate chance to purchase these for a amazing amount. Its been some thirty years given that now we have possessed a very good collection of Corelle dinnerware. Thank you so much
I’ve generally dreamed of Corelle existing ware Andamp; lastly wanted to order some personally! I’m remarkably happy about it!!The structure I select truly satisfies my identity Andamp; I adore which the plates are really light-weight considering that I needed stoneware previously. I’d strongly recommend this particular product to everyone!
Lightweight, particularly very thin. The caffeine cups are classified as the most large tens within the collection. Didn’t recognize that the dishes was included with covers… I assume this is actually a great contact even so can’t certainly envision utilizing them.
I enjoy Corelle goods having said that i feel like the Corelle cheated me now because of this Corellle Dinnerware place. The dishes and dishes come in America and delightful. I really enjoy it. Nevertheless the mugs come in The far east. The glasses are way too large and low-priced. Two breaks have the glass nevertheless i don’t need to spend your time to come back. I would recommend Corelle ought not selection products and services manufactured in North america and Chinese suppliers, then state this revolutionary product is done in United states of america. I look and feel so distressed even continually appreciate Corelle products and solutions. Many thanks for looking at.
They are excellent. The cups are actually good. Uncomplicated to maintain and the perfect measurement. Like this establish! Hard to interrupt far too! Far better acquire on a save despite the fact that because doing so came broken down when obtained while in the email.
When you get it approximately $20, it’s a terrific importance-for-capital collection. It always promotes for $27 on The amazon website, nonetheless have witnessed occasions when it markets for only $20. However those occasions are small number of and also small. So just invest in when you need it.
Really appealing and lightweight bodyweight. Doesn’t require much space in cabinet. Not hard to clean. When plan came, one of the several cups was shattered. Referred to as organization additionally they received a replacement straight out to my opinion. Extremely pleased with choose.
These matched up our pre-existing dishes and dishes. They happen to be pretty slim and light-weight. We haven’t become any cracking on these types. Even if we certainly have obtained one thoroughly shattered.
The dishes and dishes are gorgeous and moreover, they come in the You.S.A. I want the caliber of these dishes and dishes. The cups, nonetheless, are discouraging. They can be stoneware, created in Chinese suppliers. These would scratch very easily. The ability for the mug is in addition not big enough. In general, nevertheless, the number of dinnerware is perfect significance. The dishes and dishes are worthy of getting.
Glasses are generally more greyish than soft bluish. They recipe established is Corelle that are great day to day cuisine.

From Jennifer
I just burned the heck out of my hand with a flat-iron while doing my hair. I put one drop of Hempworx on it and it stopped the burning immediately, and this is the Peppermint! I thought the Peppermint may make it hurt worse, but nope! I totally recommend this for something as simple as burns. It works! Update: No blister today!  Read on the rest of these testimonials are truly amazing, too!!!!! For more information or to place an order go HERE.
Susan shares:
Long testimony! I have suffered for 20 years from fibromyalgia, horrible headaches, super tight painful muscles, stiff joints, depression and anxiety. Most recently March 2016 I suffered a hip injury, started limping which caused greater trochanter bursitis, tendinitis, and I have been limping ever since. This caused problems with my SI joint, muscle spasms in my legs, and plantar fasciitis. I have gotten injections every 4 months just so I could continue working. My quality of life sucked because I was in so much pain. This wonderful woman ordered some CBD oil for me and told me to take it. It took me 4 days to try it and the only reason I did was because My pain kept me from sleeping and I could barely get out of bed. I started out with half a dropper full of 500 mg and It started working immediately! I could feel my muscles instantly relaxing. I’ve been taking half a dropper 2x a day for 2 weeks and I feel like a well oiled machine! I don’t have any joint pain at all and I feel like my whole body moves so smooth. I am not limping anymore and my plantar fasciitis is better. I don’t even think about taking my anxiety medicine because I feel so calm. My headaches are almost non existent and I can go for days without ibuprofen or Tylenol. I am in such a good mood because I feel great! This stuff is a miracle and I wish I would’ve found it sooner. All this stuff didn’t happen overnight..it happened gradually so give it time to work and take it consistently. Thank you God! CBD Oil Is it Legal? What is it? Will it Help Me?

From Kelli:
HERE IS MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE::: Well, folks. Its been a week since i started giving Sierra the CBD OIL in place of her 20 mg Adderall 3X daily. I guess i should start this by telling you all that Sierra has ADD/ADHD/ & ODD. While the pills do work, they have horrible side effects, such as thoughts of suicide, depression, sleepiness, and not to mention the horrible mood swings, plus many more that i wont go into. Sierra isn’t quite 15 yet. She has always been on the Honers Roll and been a top student. However, she can sometimes be mean, both physically and emotionaly. I researched this product for months. After all, I was going to be giving it to my child. After seeing other parents sharing about the results that they were having i decided to give it a try. I absolutely HATE giving my child her prescribed medication almost as much as i hated the side affects it gave her. For the past week i have been giving Sierra 5 drops in the morning and 5 drops in the evening. I stopped the medication completely before doing this several days before hand. Her and i both noticed a difference on day 2!!! Not only did i not have to fight with her to take it, but she actually said, “Hey mom, do i take that calming oil again today?” That is NOT normal for her. Within just a cpl of days of taking this oil her mouthing and meaness has all but subsided. There is no more anxiety, her ADHD/ADD is non existant to those around her, and her ODD is nowhere in sight. I cannot tell you how happy I am that i gave this product a try. I am now taking it myself for my pain from my endometriosis and since i started taking it i haven’t taken any over the counter or prescribed meds for pain. I absolutely love this oil and i fell so very grateful that i was introduced to it. All You Need to Know About CBD and Anxiety (Infographic)

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
From Christy: i have been taking the 500mg oil for just over 4 weeks. I have had great results with regaining my clarity, less anxiety, energy level is up, and fewer night sweats. I have also noticed how my finger nails have become harder and grow quicker AND my hair feels thicker and darker. Anyone else experiencing less gray?

Hello. My name is Glenda. I’d like to share an experience that I haven’t seen here. Today is Tuesday. Sunday night I felt the manifestation of a cold sore, a fever blister, on my lip. I put a drop of HempWorx CBD oil on my lip before going to bed. Yesterday morning, the swelling had gone down and there was no pain. Another few drops throughout the day (maybe three total). Today, Tuesday, completely gone! I love this stuff! Thank you for being patient and showing me this marvelous product which I now share as well. Blessings to all.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
From Jenny .. “My personal testimony: In September of this year, I was about to marry the man of my dreams but my body was so uncooperative. I was on 14 different medications. I was chasing symptoms and side effects. I was miserable, stiff, and in pain all the time. I was about to get married and just barely even mobile. I did a lot of research on different brands. I finally decided to try Hempworx. I started with just 5 drops of 500mg 2x a day. I worked my way up to a full dropper 2x a day and decided to move up to the 750mg. It took some time to really feel a difference. It didn’t happen overnight. After about 3 weeks I started noticing that I was taking less pain medication so I cut down on the long-acting dose I was taking. Over that next week, I started cutting down on everything. Currently, I’m not on ANY extended release pain medication, no NSAIDS for inflammation, no sleep meds, no acid reflux meds. I take my Humira injection weekly and my 2 meds for diabetes and that is IT. From 14 meds down to 3 in a 3-month time frame. My advice to you? Be consistent. Give your body time to adjust to the changes. Don’t give up, you can and WILL feel better!” Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain, explained, Including CBD Oil
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Last week, I followed my gut and took Ryan off ridalin, with his doctors consent. He would come home agitated and filled with anxiety and just did not want to be anywhere. No appetite which I was told was normal and loss of sleeping. Headaches and imagining bugs and over moody started to appear after being on it for 6 months BUT he was getting amazing results at school which is what I wanted. Don’t we all want that for our kids.
Last week I decided that was enough, I miss my boy, doing good in school wasn’t worth it. So I reached out and got some ordered. I talked to her back in September but it was working so I wasn’t completely on board just yet….I did my research. I thought it was illegal…BUT ITS NOT!!!! Look you the farm act, CBD oil does NOT have THC which is why you can buy it in Minnesota
The first day of switching with his new meds that aren’t a controlled substance and the oil, his body was adjusting….he did not have a good day. But Tuesday no note was sent home, his school work was done and he was his normal energetic self! The third day was the day it hit me, he got off the bus just tired and Hungary. He’s only in kindergarten, that’s a long day…..I listened to him complain, I put the drops under his tounge because he likes how it makes him feel and five minutes if that complete 360….we were talking about his school day and what he drew and my plans for the night which he didn’t fight me, he was just happy and calm I’m sharing my story because I know alot of children are affected with these controlled substances and it doesn’t have to!!! #cbdoil #itworks #miracledrug
No more Xbox or screens to just make it through the day!!! He’s just happy to be alive and around us again.

Here’s Part 3 of the write up following our recent road trip in Spain and Portugal, if you missed Part 1 you can read it here and if you can read Part 2 of the update here.
After leaving Mirando de Douro we headed out of Portugal into the Province of Salamanca, with the small town of Candelario as our destination – sort of between the Natural Park of Las Batuecas Sierra De Francia and the hills and mountains of the Sierra de Gredos
The approach we had taken on the trip was by and large to look for accommodation the night before and to make a good route by simply keeping where possible to roads that were in the hills, national parks or that seemed to run by rivers and lakes – and all in all the approach worked well.
Our route took us first towards Luelmo, then Ledesma and then down to El Cabaco – the first part of our journey was more on the flat side, the scenery whilst enjoyable wasn’t always stunning, but that all changed when we were close to El Cabaco.
Having said that, the views outside the town of Ledesma were simply fabulous and we stopped by the bridge that crosses the Rio Tormes to marvel at what we saw and to take plenty of pictures – some of which will be among those we have enlarged and printed for display at home, a sample of which are in the gallery below.
Before we got to Candelario we happened upon a town that looked more like an old Tudor town than a place we expected to find in Spain – I think the place was called Alberca, we turned back, parked up and went for a wander – just another of the fabulous places we saw on the trip
It was a steaming hot day as we made our way to Candelario and we stopped a couple of times for refreshments, and even when we were only about 15 miles or so from our destination we still felt the need to stop for cold drinks!
The town we were headed for – Candelario, is about a 1,000 metres above sea level and has a population of around a 1,000 or so – and we had read that some people regarded it as one of the most beautiful towns in Spain – whether it meets that lavish statement I really don’t know as there is so much of Spain I haven’t seen – but make no mistake it really is a wonderful, charming, peaceful and beautiful town.
We stayed at the Hotel La Fuente – and it’s a place that I would have no hesitation in recommending – secure parking for the bike, good quality accommodation, only a few hundred yards from the centre of the small town and a great breakfast as well. On top of that there were a few bars to grab a cold beer and a couple of places to eat – and it was a lovely place to wander around after a day on the bike.
By the time we left Candelario we were getting towards the back end of our trip (and the need for a new rear tyre) which will be covered in the fourth and final part of the ‘two up in spain and portugal’ post
two up in spain and portugal (part 3) … Here's Part 3 of the write up following our recent road trip in Spain and Portugal, if you missed Part 1…

AK Monthly Recap: February 2017
After a quiet January, I got back to the road in February with two trips that were out of the norm for me. A trip to Florida and a cruise — two very typical American vacations, but not the usual kind of trip I take. Even so, I had a blast on both trips!
Best of all, these were trips with friends — a road trip through Florida with Cailin and a cruise through the Caribbean with Jeremy.
Punctuated with some fun times at home in New York, it made for a very satisfying month. Here’s everything I got up to in February!
Destinations Visited
New York, New York
Orlando, Islamorada, Key Largo, Tavernier, Marathon, Key West, and Miami, Florida
Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Favorite Destinations
Key West is one of my new favorite places in the United States!
San Juan is a fabulous city and I was happy to return.
And I’m just discovering how awesome Miami Beach can be.
Highlights
Having fun at Universal Orlando. Universal Studios was the main reason for our Florida trip. Cailin is an ambassador for the park, and part of her partnership is that she gets to bring friends with her to experience the park for themselves. She kindly invited me and I was happy to join her. We had a great time!
Some of the highlights: throwing out beads on a Mardi Gras float, going to the actual Moe’s Tavern from The Simpsons, wearing our hot pink BEST FRIENDS shirts, experiencing The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (and doing a hilarious Bertie Botts Roulette video on Facebook live!), having breakfast with the Minions, riding The Mummy over and over (flying around in the dark, fiery explosions, Brendan Fraser demanding a cup of coffee — what’s not to love?), and THE FOOD. Seriously. I did not have high expectations for the food at Universal but the restaurants at CityWalk were excellent, especially Antojitos. They made the best salmon over sweet potatoes…
Road tripping down the Keys. The Florida Keys were amazing and both fulfilled and defied my expectations. They were absolutely beautiful, gritty in all the right ways, and surprisingly a lot like New Hampshire…
Having a little too much fun in Key West. Let’s just say that at age 32, Key West is for me what San Juan del Sur was at 30, Vang Vieng was at 26, Las Vegas was at 23…it’s a fun place. And wild. And incredibly beautiful and historical as well, but still — this is a place where you come for fun. The highlight was our sunset cruise with a bunch of rowdy Boston sports fans and unlimited rosé…
Trying all the key lime pie. This was my major diet fail this month — but I did eat clean otherwise. Cailin and I decided to go on a quest to find the best key lime pie in the Florida Keys and we sampled eight different top recommended pies across the archipelago. Stay tuned for a post on the best slices!
Kicking back in South Beach. We had two nights in Miami at the end of our trip and decided to just chill out — we ate ceviche, relaxed on the beach, and vegged out at the W’s pool.
Enjoying my first cruise ever. Jeremy kindly invited me to join him on a weeklong cruise on the Carnival Vista. The cruise was split between February and March, so it seems a bit weird only writing about the first half of it here. I’m still on it as I write this, and I’m having a blast. It did take some getting used to (it was SO OVERWHELMING at first!) but once I found my zone (balcony, adults-only deck, fitness center, spa, and sushi bar), I was happy as a clam. And my favorite part was getting to know the staff. I’ll be writing more about my introduction to cruising in the future, so stay tuned.
An awesome catamaran ride in Grand Turk. We booked only one official shore excursion and it was a good one — a catamaran ride with snorkeling and a visit to a private beach. The water in Grand Turk is an UNREAL shade of blue and the beaches are fine white sand — Jeremy and I definitely chose the perfect excursion.
Revisiting Old San Juan. Jeremy and I had both been to San Juan previously, so this day was about wandering the town, revisiting some of our favorite places, and taking photos. Puerto Rico is a fantastic place and I’d love to return for a third time and see new spots (Culebrita, yo vengo!).
Meeting up with blogger buds for the first time. This month I met Hannah and Adam from Getting Stamped at Universal Orlando and Gloria from The Blog Abroad came to visit me in Harlem! It’s so nice to meet blogger friends in real life.
I also got some nice plane views over New York en route to Orlando. So pretty!
Challenges
As far as months go, there were no major personal challenges, and for that I am grateful.
From the “learn from my mistakes” files — Cailin and I decided to save money and have me be the sole driver on our Florida road trip, but we really should have paid more and shared the driving. Orlando to Islamorada took six hours and was a slog, especially through traffic around Miami!
Post of the Month
You may have noticed publishing was much lighter than usual this month. I only have one non-recap post, but it’s a good one: Where to Stay in Barcelona: Best Neighborhoods and Accommodation
Most Popular Instagram Photo
This is a bit of a misnomer — my actual most popular Instagram photo was the recipient of roughly 2,000 fake likes from a spammer that has started targeting me and a host of other travel bloggers. (Their method: give 2k bogus likes “as a gift” and then ask us to sign up for their paid service. No thanks. Plenty of travel bloggers use bots to artificially inflate their Instagram numbers, but I refuse to play that game.)
But this is the most popular photo minus the spamming — one of Key West’s legendary sunsets.

What I Read This Month
Whatever Happened to Interracial Love? by Kathleen Collins (2016). Kathleen Collins was one of the first prominent black female filmmakers, and she died in her 40s in the 1980s. This collection of short stories she wrote was only recently found among her belongings and published last year. Some stories read like poetry, some like prose, some like plays.
More than anything, this book is about how black women love and the sacrifices they make as a result. I loved these stories of women who fell in love, women who stayed by their cheating men, women who attempted to carve out a life of their own. You could call it a companion piece to Beyonce’s Lemonade. It’s a relatively quick read and one that I highly recommend. Category: A book by a person of color.
When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi (2016). I was afraid to read this book for a long time, despite its stellar reviews. I tend to avoid books about confronting death and grief (the same reason why I haven’t read Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking), and I didn’t know how I would handle reading about a brilliant young neurosurgeon diagnosed with terminal cancer. This book is about how he evaluates his life prior to diagnosis and his outlook afterward. I shouldn’t have avoided it.
This book is written so beautifully. The best memoirs are fascinating stories that are told well, and this absolutely fits the bill. Dr. Kalanithi wrestled with whether to become a doctor or a writer, and tentatively planned on leaving medicine to focus on writing later in life. But what a way to leave the world — this book is a treasure. I read it in one sitting. I’m grateful that I got to know Dr. Kalanithi, if only posthumously. Category: A book about a difficult topic.
What We Do Now: Standing Your Ground in Trump’s America by various authors (2017). This book, obviously published quickly following the 2016 election, is a collection of essays by liberal leaders talking about what needs to be done in the resistance against Donald Trump. Some of the authors include Elizabeth Warren, Paul Krugman, Bernie Sanders, and the first Somali-American legislator, Ilhan Omar.
I had read a handful of the essays before, including Warren’s and Krugman’s. Everything was organized by topic, from LGBT rights to the environment. And honestly, this is a very preaching-to-the-choir book, especially if you’re a liberal who follows the news, but I enjoyed reading it nonetheless and got some new insights. Category: A book with multiple authors.
Wendy Darling, Volume II: Seas by Colleen Oakes (2016). My cousin Colleen is an incredibly prolific author and the mind behind two young adult series of retold fairy tales. My favorite books of hers so far are the Wendy Darling books — a dark retelling of Peter Pan from Wendy’s point of view. These books are visually lush and much more mature.
In the first book, Wendy realizes that both Neverland and Peter Pan are far more sinister than they appear, and she escapes with her brother Michael. In the second, she joins Captain Hook and his crew as they sail Neverland, trying to stop Peter Pan with the help of bloodthirsty mermaids and deranged fairies. And if Peter Pan was sexy in the first book, CAPTAIN HOOK was sexy in the second! I love Colleen’s view of Neverland! Category: A book involving a mythical creature.
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie (1934). I’ve actually never read a book by Agatha Christie in my life (!) but I needed a book that’s becoming a movie this year, and I got excited when I saw that not only is Murder on the Orient Express going to be a movie in December, but Leslie Odom Jr. (a.k.a. Aaron Burr from Hamilton) will be in it! It has an awesome cast: directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh with Odom, Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Daisy Ridley, Michelle Pfeiffer, Josh Gad, Willem Dafoe, and DAME JUDI MOTHERFUCKING DENCH.
This iconic mystery takes place on the Orient Express from Istanbul to Calais in the 1930s. A passenger is murdered and the train gets stuck in a snowstorm, which means the murderer is one of the passengers in the car. Good thing detective Hercule Poirot is on board and is able to deduce who the killer is.
One thing I didn’t expect…the surprising amount of casual racism about Italians and Italian-Americans. According to one character, the Italian must be the murderer because Italians love to stab people…That said, it’s a reminder that Italians and Irish were once treated with the prejudice and scorn that Muslims, Latinos, and Africans receive in America today. I’m eager to see how they modernize the film. Category: A book that’s becoming a movie in 2017.
What I Listened To This Month
“Etunnel” by Primary feat. Gaeko. Another one of Spotify’s picks for me (seriously, Spotify knows my tastes inside and out), this is a lovely Korean electronic/hip-hop song with a touch of Burt Bacharach. Give it a listen; I bet you’ll love it!
Fun fact: I didn’t even know it was Korean until I looked it up just now…
What I Watched This Month
I’ve started watching Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix. This comedy stars Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as boring-yet-happy realtor couple living in the suburbs with a teenage daughter — until one day Barrymore’s character suddenly turns into a zombie and starts eating people.
It’s not the sharpest or most cutting-edge comedy of all time, but it’s wacky and I love it! The cast is great, and it has a very sweet message of doing everything you can to protect your family, even if that means killing people you can’t stand in order to eat them.
What I Cooked This Month
No pics, but I am cooking these turkey spinach burgers all the time. They’re super healthy and a good source of protein, and I love making four at once so I have a few ready to go in the fridge! Plus, they look like Oscar the Grouch.
Four pieces of advice: 1) This recipe calls for a truly insane amount of spinach — just go with it. 2) Be very gentle when mixing the turkey; if you mash it too hard it will be too dense. 3) They will fall apart if you grill them, so bake them in a glass dish. 4) Top them with avocado or guacamole — it’s the best! Avocado is my main substitute for cheese these days, and I find it just as satisfying.
Fitness Update
I’m still working hard on my fitness and I think I’ve been making progress at a much faster rate lately. Something has shifted — I work harder and better and am feeling great!
That said, this was also my first month traveling since starting my fitness regimen, and it was challenging to keep up workouts and eat well on the road. I could have done better with both, but I’m glad neither trip turned into a gluttonous free-for-all, as it would have in the past.
I tried two new classes this month — Pon de Flo with Oneika, and IMAXShift with Beth. Pon de Flo is a Caribbean dance class in SoHo that includes HIIT segments — think Zumba but with more push-ups. IMAXShift is a spin class in front of an IMAX screen located in DUMBO — you ride through space and lasers and the sky.
I only lost a few pounds in February, but I don’t mind — according to my body analysis I’m gaining a ton of muscle, which is heavier and cancels out a lot of fat loss. Weight isn’t as important as you think. More important is that I look and feel different — especially in my face, my upper arms and my thighs. And I’ve lost three inches off my waist since December.
Also a bonus: I went bathing suit shopping and found three suits that I loved and felt great in!
Coming Up in March 2017
I have a few more days on the cruise at the beginning of March, and beyond that, I have no travel plans scheduled in March. Which, once again, is great. I feel like I’m actually starting to live my goal of traveling 25% of the time or less.
I do have a lot I want to do in New York this month, including visiting the new Golden Girls cafe in Washington Heights, so stay tuned for more local coverage!
Plus, Cailin is coming to stay for a few days (amusingly, she’ll already be at my place when I get back from the cruise). I’m also looking forward to hosting my book group at my apartment, which is shockingly the first time I’ve invited more than two people into my apartment simultaneously!
What’s coming up for you in March? Share away!

I don’t have much news from this week, it’s been quite a quiet week really. I’ve been slowly carrying on with my decluttering and have filled another three huge bin bags with either things for the charity shop, or rubbish. I’m still feeling ruthless so will be carrying on with the decluttering for a while yet! I need to get around to clearing some shelf space as currently all the lovely books I got for my birthday are in a box as there is literally no space to put them on any of my bookcases or shelves! Eeeek!
This week I’ve finished reading three books:
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
I had the ebook of this on my TBR for ages but just never got around to it so when I spotted it on an Audible deal recently I snapped it up. I’ve listened to it over the course of a couple of days and it was ok. I think the book has been so hyped for so long that it was going to be a huge ask for it to live up to. It was enjoyable enough but I was a bit disappointed.
The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton
I love love love this book! It was close to 900 pages long and I’ve read it over the last ten days or so – I couldn’t stop thinking about it when I wasn’t reading it, and now I’ve finished it I really miss it. It made me remember how much I used to adore reading big books and I’m definitely going to make more effort to read longer books. I highly recommend this book if you haven’t read it yet.
Well-Read Women by Samantha Hahn
This is a book I got for my birthday and I adore it. It’s such a beautiful book and whilst it’s only 112 pages and is predominantly paintings I’ve added it as a read book here because I literally spent a few hours looking at the paintings and reading the quotes. This is a fabulous book for a book lover – I’m definitely going to be buying copies as gifts in the future.
This week I’ve blogged five times:
#gallery-0-14 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-14 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; } #gallery-0-14 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-14 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Sunday: Weekly Wrap-Up (29 Jan) where I shared all my book, blogging and real life news from the previous week.
Wednesday: WWW Wednesday (1 Feb) where I shared what I was currently reading, what I’d recently read and what I was hoping to read next.
Thursday: January Wrap-Up where I wrapped up the first month of 2017, sharing all the books I’d read, links to all my reviews and blog posts, and how my plan to reduce my TBR was going.
Friday: My Birthday Book Haul where I shared my huge haul of books that I was lucky enough to receive for my birthday last weekend.
Saturday: Stacking the Shelves where I wrote about the books I bought myself or received for review over the last seven days.
This is what I’m currently reading:
#gallery-0-15 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-15 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 16%; } #gallery-0-15 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-15 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Books for Living by Will Schwalbe
I completely and utterly fell in love with Will Schwalbe’s previous book so I’ve been really keen to read this one. So far the book is wonderful but unfortunately my copy is from NetGalley and the formatting is making it very hard for me to read. I’m considering putting it to one side for now and buying my own copy to read.
The Good Immigrant ed. by Nikesh Shukla
This is a book that I’ve been wanting to read for ages so when I spotted it for the bargain price of £2.99 on Kindle this week I snapped it up. I’ve read the first four essays so far and it’s a very thought-provoking read. I want to read this slowly and give myself time to really think about what’s being said so I’m reading an essay or two each day. I definitely recommend it though.
Last Night in Montreal by Emily St. John Mandel
When I started reading this it seemed very different from Station Eleven (which I read a few years ago and completely adored) but as I get further into it and more and more layers are peeled back it’s really clear how the author got from here to there. I’m really enjoying this book.
Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands by Chris Bohjalian
This book, like the two below, is a really enjoyable novel but my reading of it is being hampered by my struggles with holding a physical book at the moment. The novel itself is really engaging though and I would recommend it.
The Roanoke Girls by Amy Engel
This is a really heavy , stiff paperback book to hold so I’m struggling to hold it open to read. I’m enjoying the story but may have to give up on this one until I can get hold of an ebook version.
The Age of Bowie by Paul Morley
I’m still enjoying this book but the format is slowing my reading down. My husband is thinking of getting the audio book version as I’ve been recommending the book to him ever since I started reading it so I may well end up listening to it with him.
  Update on my TBR…
TBR at the start of January 2017: 1885 (see my State of the TBR post)
TBR in last week’s Weekly Wrap-Up: 1889
Books bought/received for review: 12
TBR Books culled this week: 0
TBR now stands at: 1904
I really hope to at least get my TBR back under 1900 this month – ideally by reading lots of my own books and not accumulating more, but I do need to do a cull at some point too to make room for my birthday books.
Weekly Wrap-Up (5 Feb) I don't have much news from this week, it's been quite a quiet week really. I've been slowly carrying on with my decluttering and have filled another three huge bin bags with either things for the charity shop, or rubbish.
