It's been a nasty month, but my real week of horrors of being stressed to the max while being treated like trash is about to start tomorrow at 5 am. Wish me luck.
#I'm having a weird 'calm before the storm day' today#the last couple of weeks of absolute horrors always started on a Thursday or a Friday and then went right through the weekend#but this time there's a weekend in between the preparation and the start of the event#and everything is done and I can't really prep much more#but I also can't relax because I'm dreading next week#the last time I had this conference one of our participants overheard the way my boss talked to me during the event#and the way she pressured me into taking the blame for what was essentially her (my boss's) own mistake#& I said fine no problem because 1. I was dealing w/other stuff and 2. there's nothing I can do if my boss wants to throw me under the bus#anyway the participant who overheard the conversation came to me later with tears in her eyes and said#'I am SO sorry for what just happened to you -- call me if you ever need to talk'#anyway there was already so much weird political drama around this event last week#that I don't even want to think about what offensive bs I'll be dealing with this time#yeah I really need a new job

sometimes people will ask me about working in a library and I have to find a gentle way to tell them they literally would not last a day working in a public library
#i do not care what customer service jobs youve worked before. nothing will prepare you for library patrons#some real things from the log we keep of problems: a woman bringing in a squirrel#several people bringing snakes#a man being tazed repeatedly by cops in the middle of the room#today a guy set the building next door on fire then came in here and the cops had to come arrest him#unfortunately there are many overdoses in our bathrooms#sometimes people will just start fist fighting each other right in front of everyones books#sooooooooooo oh sooooooooooo many creepy people calling us repeatedly to masturbate to women reading things out loud#something that happens shockingly often is patrons typing their email address into google and screaming at us bc were hiding their emails#or like they dont know their password so the scream at us for not having that#a gentleman once began flinging feces at employees at one branch#once i was leaving work and someone FILMED ME and we literally never found out why#I've known many many people whove been stalked by patrons. one who had her house broken into#its a labor of love

I had a whole rant prepared but I felt like my feelings were better summed up in a meme.
#people saying packing premade food to events is trashy or running errands with friends is bad can suck my wiener#that's the point#people who say a car is freedom and not a mode of transportation for emergencies and necessity can suck my wiener too#I will keep biking and I will keep bringing little picnics with me everywhere#I love outside food and I love hiking trails with friends and I love it all#but tbh I would have folded if it wasn't for all the support here on Tumblr#especially with cooking#I used to hate to cook#like 6 months ago if there was nothing to microwave at home I wouldn't eat#but now? Now it's different#I love all the pictures of cooking and fresh fruit#they make me feel much better#yesterday I made some puerto rican inspired chicken stew and it was really good#and I've been making my own boba#but I wouldn't be if it wasn't for the romanticization of cooking#goat talk#even today I had yogurt with banana and pansies and granola which isn't really cooking but I prepared something for myself

#had to put my dog down unexpectedly today#fucking devastated rn#she was completely fine last night.#acting like her sweet self nothing was wrong at all#vet found a ruptured tumor on her spleen she had heavy internal bleeding#like I just feel gobsmacked rn she was literally fine then this morning she didn’t even come when I called her and I knew something was off#the last two dogs I’ve lost we saw it coming so I was able to like. prepare myself emotionally to an extent#but I got this feeling of dread on the way to the emergency vet and I just knew I wasn’t gonna come back with her#and I think she knew too#if I didn’t have my other dog there for support I think I would’ve just completely fallen apart#sorry y’all

Must remember this - starting a lesson by inviting the students to come up and graffiti the entire whiteboard with all the worst and most mystifying things about public speaking is a great way to get everyone participating enthusiastically!
#Honestly there is no way that lesson should have worked. We did it - because - um - I had nothing prepared and was low on sleep.#I think I tend to mention my successes and leave out all the ways I can be a bit of a crummy teacher on here#and the times things don't go my way#and that's something I'd like to remedy -#but today by sheer grace the lesson really flew with the students! We basically just spent the whole session letting students give each#other strategies for dealing with those hard parts of public speaking#while I wrote their suggestions on the board. It flew because the students threw themselves into it - not because I was up to the#mark today. I love my students. Sometimes we don't click#and sometimes we do. AMDG#teacher life

I have a sty that hurts like hell and we're leaving for a week long trip tomorrow. We have nothing packed and I'm incredibly overwhelmed and tired
#i didnt take a nap when i got back from work and i think thats what fucked me up#peachy speaks#im running on 4 hours of sleep#been awake since 2 am for work#im exhausted and its coming out in extreme emotions#i feel so cranky#im excited for the trip as its to a theme park in Idaho ive wanted to visit#but we have nothing put together because we had to run a bunch of errands today to prepare#and im still sore from the gym and a two hour motorcycle ride#my knee hurts because i tweaked it at work yesterday and its being a bother#but im being lent some ear buds so that will help#my eye hurts so badly and overall i just want to curl up and cry

#I got SO much done today I feel fucking GREAT#i finally worked through the tricky bit of this chapter that had been stumping me for a month and wrote 1000 good words of new analysis#like i spent November writing and deleting trying to figure out how to structure this#and today at like 650am i just sat down and wrote through it in 300 words like it was nothing#and im finally in the bit im prepared to write about and it was just flowing#and then I helped my dad edit and basically rewrite something for work and was like. on a roll#and after powerworking for like 11.5hrs I'm now a popsicle outside with my reward blunt
