I once again find myself yelling at the tv today.
This is what happens when my husband is traveling for work.
…and also when he is at home.
Bridgerton and Helluva Boss spoilers below the cut!
This post is also basically borderline gibberish, so 🤷
BRIDGERTON SEASON 3 SPOILERS AHOY!
THE SCREAM I SCRUMPT WHEN THAT MAN PICKED UP LADY BRIDGERTON’S…handkerchief? I don’t actually know
BUT OH MY GOD
LET HER FIND LOVE AGAIN GODDAMMIT
Tho ngl part of me kind of shipped her and Lady Danbury but that would be a little weird what with the events of the Queen Charlotte series… STILL. I’m glad they’re at least besties.
BUT OMGGGGGG. I am so excited for her to get another chance at love!!! 😭 God the scenes in the Queen Charlotte series and the 2nd season with her broke my heart.
I also have such a soft spot for multiple great loves in one’s lifetime idk I am a sap like that. I’ve seen it in my own family and my in-laws and I just find it so sweet and bittersweet.
AUGH I AM JUST SO HAPPY AND I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE MORE WITH THIS MAN
It’s possible they actually do introduce him but I paused the episode like right after so lol I am as yet in the dark
Also I LOVE seeing Colin realize he caught feelings. Especially after Pen has pined after him for so long.
WELL WELL WELL HOW THE TURNTABLES
But omg her having to write about herself HURT MY HEART
I was wondering how they were going to mend fences somewhat with her and her struggles with Colin and Eloise and DAMN she went straight for her own jugular
THAT’S NOT SELF-COMPASSION PEN!
Ugh there is so much sweetness this season so far that I’m gonna get cavities T_T
I love getting to see the characters get to play more and be unabashedly themselves
I am a season 2 super fan lol. It’s been so nice getting to see more of the fucking phenomenal chemistry between Kate and Anthony
I love them so much T_T
I love Lady Danbury too. And that we’re getting more of her friendship with the Queen because MY HEART THE FUCKING PREQUEL OH MY GOD IT WAS SO GOOD
T_T her love with George gives me life and also SO MUCH SADNESS
Lol it’s also a little weird watching this because I live in Charlotte, NC which consists of Mecklenburg County both of which are named after the queen lol
We are ~the Queen City~ literally. That is Charlotte’s literal nickname.
HELLUVA BOSS SPOILERS AHOY!
I pretty much watched the entire two seasons over the past two days
I wasn’t sure how I was gonna feel about it after Hazbin but I loved it in a different way
love Stolas so much T_T he is such a sad little bird man and CAN HE AND BLITZO JUST BE BOYFRIENDS AND GIRL DADS OKAY?!
also as soon as his dad showed up I was just like “wait one goddamn second, JAFAR?”
And it was! But I recognized him from the Broadway and then I fucking found out he had basically been Jafar since goddamn 1992???? I had no idea it was the OG Jafar in the Broadway Original Cast recording
I also really love the portrayal of Lust and his relationship with Fizz (I am too lazy to look up the spelling of his name). Just s’cute! And god the panic attack he had…ouch. Lol I really felt him on the thought spirals too. WELCOME TO THE CLUB!
Ngl Blitzo annoyed tf out of me at first but he really grew on me and PLEASE LET THEM BE BOYFRIENDS AND GIRL DADS OKAY
the episode of them as kids omfggggggg so goddamn CUTE
I also love Millie and Moxxie or however you spell it
Of course I was gonna that’s literally Invader Zim right there but omfg they’re so cute and I love how stupid in love they are
just nauseatingly so and in such a good way
I literally watched Hazbin for the first time like…2 or 3 weeks ago? And have been obsessed since. Alastor is my fave but Stolas from Helluva is right up there with him
I am BASIC OKAY
I actually only watched Hazbin because Spotify played some of the music for it on my daylist and I got hooked and now I’ve been listening to electro swing and I didn’t even think I liked jazz but then I realized I like a lot of jazz vocals from other stuff so it fit really well
~It’s all gibberish from here folks!~
I love…idk how to word it…like unique instrumentals? Which duh jazz, but I’ve never been a huge brass/band type instruments person
I played violin, strings are my fave
Except for the organ and the harpsichord omfggggg god I love me some fucking organ and harpsichord music
I am a SUPER COOL AND FUN AND EXCITING PERSON OKAY
lmaooooo
Ngl growing up going to church the organ music and hymns were my fave part
I don’t really go to church anymore, but damn if I don’t miss the music. Lord of the Dance is my fave hymn of all time and I used to get SO HYPE when we’d sing it
Communion was always the best too because we just got to sing hymns the whole time lol
If I’d stuck with church I’d def be in the choir now because I LOVED IT
One of my fave church memories was when I was a teen and they had a session where everyone got together and just sang favorite hymns
But I mostly stopped going to church because of how fucking toxic the folks at my church were (in addition to all the problematic shit about gender/sex and the rampant Christian hypocrisy etc) but it’s hard to escape church in the south
I drive 5min down one road and pass like 10 churches which is not much of an exaggeration because there is literally like one on every corner down here
Also found out the other day that the denomination I’m part of JUST removed the ban on lgbt preachers??? Didn’t realize we still had one, so that was a bummer, but hey at least they got there in the year of our lord 2024…..
Continuing on the church tangent I’ll never forget the time we had Baptists come to our door when I was in high school to try to share the good word and I told them I was Methodist and they just looked at me in borderline disgust before leaving 💀
Or the time the MORMONS CHASED ME when I was trying to go pick up food for my dog 💀💀💀
I saw them a few stores down and started power walking and they started hustling and I was just like “am I genuinely being chased by Mormons right now???” and I was!
To each their own, but I am not interested in being converted kthnx
I’ve got a lot of complicated stuff already with Methodism so I’m good on the religion front! Still consider myself Christian but don’t feel the need to harass other people about it! Or to evangelize! Or to actually go to church! But again, I live in the south so church in general is still very much present in the lives of my loved ones and nigh inescapable
Lmaooo no one is gonna read this monstrosity of a post but goddamn can you tell I didn’t take my adhd meds today and that my body has refused to sleep for like two weeks now!
So of course I’ve been having ocd spirals of “this is it, we’re an insomniac now, we’re never gonna sleep again, we’re gonna die from never sleeping again, it finally fucking happened” 🥰
Yaaaaay I need to go to bed
And HOPEFULLY SLEEP FOR ONCE
shut UP ocd 🖕

TPN S2E01 Thoughts (anime-only)
Watching with friends:
youtube
.
Opening thoughts so far
Tumblr media
of course this parallel which i already cried about in its own post. I just. my emotions. AHHHH-
.
Tumblr media
I’m not sure what it means but the cut from two hands forming a grid to the chains being aligned similarly and creating a chainlink fence. The hands covering someone's vision could be the deception of the farms or something of the like, especially since it comes after the shot with all the moms lined up. But those illusions are a prison, therefore the chains. I'm just not sure how it correlates to the post-escape. I guess the system/society overall
I rly just wanted to appreciate the smooth transition work haha
Another TPN server member pointed out its not two hands covering someone’s vision, it’s a demon and human hand, making a deal. I’m blind. Match cut still cool.
.
I also can't believe my prayer for empty space composition got real. I JUST LOVE IT BECAUSE I WAS SAYING IT THE WHOLE TIME I was like "I hope they do a thing on the poster or something, where its framed like the three of them are there but norman's is just empty space" AND THEY DID IT!! ONCE AGAIN MY FEELINGS. IM SO HAPPY THEY DID IT BUT ALSO OUCH
Tumblr media
.
The episode
A lot happened but it didn't feel rushed particularly for me personally, excluding the few shots it didn't stay on long enough to really make out anything (and you can pause on those so). They reference they've only recently entered this type of forest (implying they've been on the way for a while), and the forest before that wasn't as... "fantasy", they also referenced being up on a high point of view (likely the cliff they stand on at the end of ep12 or another high point they've been at) where they've seen the river.
The only thing that I feel could have used some time is Ray. Having him have that sort of resolution like 5 minutes in (when before he was sure he'd be dead and therefore didn't plan to take any responsibility for what happens after the escape) feels kind of weird, especially if we haven't seen Emma burdening that much by herself except emotionally and implied also for other activities (I feel that there's some setup missing for her leaving Ray to do the bait thing later in the episode).
I also think having a bit more time between the "oath" and him breaking down being like "I can't give up, I promised" (which was amazing angst, I approve) wouldn't have hurt, but it's also kind of a nice circle within the episode I guess.
Overall, they seem to be moving fast (although I'm not really bothered by it personally), but unless they directly contradict something from the manga, I think if someone wants more details, they can read the manga and add those informations into their experience! Not everything needs to be reiterated, sometimes. And so the anime can move forward faster, both for better and worse.
Haven't read the manga though so I don't know if that works the way I think it does.
But yeah. I feel like an earlier point would have been a good cliffhanger too, maybe around the time Emma faints?
.
[About the carving in the tree]
What I assumed was that Ray gave them the clear signal, but if he didn’t returne, they'd gone looking for him and get hold up. So he carved that, i assume, to tell them what happened and make them go the other way instead of looking for him. Not that they'd listen probably but YKNOW.
I'm not entirely sure.
My friends and I had this whole tangent about “it'd be funny if the demons saw it and just showed up at Minerva's base. Minerva dead”
though I also assume that the coordinates are minerva internal stuff but then again the one scientist did just randomly lose the pen for krone to find so. yknow. idk if their system is the most competent in being secretive and not having a demon pick one up at some point haha-
.
“ what do you feel about the general vibe of this new direction? ”
tainted anime-only but I'll try to give thoughts udsihsdj
Hmm I don't really have any particular feelings I suppose? I'm definitely excited though, I feel like even though the setting and feel has changed from kind of subtle thriller to like, out-right scary monsters and survival, the underlying kind of angst and sincerity stayed the same? I guess it could also be argued that since the anime put less focus on the internal planning and more focus on the character expression and stuff, it's not as extreme of a shift for the anime in a bubble.
I guess I initially thought TPN was kind of "grounded" - ..... aside from the yknow, big children eating demons - if that makes sense? But I think it's also interesting from a meta perspective that the outside or at least segments of the outside (since they said that the previous forest didn't have all those fish bugs and plants) are so fantasy based because in the bubble of GF house its kind of easy to assume the world is just kinda ours but slapped demons on top of it (so in a twist of events, the trapped children who grew up in a lie knew a lot more about their world than we did).*
So I think the fantasy direction is kind of interesting (i also find it interesting that it's only segments of the world, apparently, so I wonder if that has any implications for why the fish bugs and plants are limited to those regions aside from... I guess just natural territory).
* which i also find interesting, because apparently they had a book on it in GF. Which heavily implies that either those things existed before the demons or the demons didn't "take over" fast enough to stop the making of books that depict those things. So I guess really the fantasy elements for them in-universe aren't really surprising. It was kind of surreal, watching them talk about them so normally when so much of the setting up until now was very non-fantasy (again, demons aside of course)
I wrongly assumed the last book being from 2015 implies that the demons took over then, but that contradicts another observation I made before and I totally forgot about but I like it more. So I’m going to redirect you there: Year Count based on demons thoughts
It’s probably gonna go more into demon stuff and all that so that's cool and I'm curious. I'm still not sure if the two new demons designs imply that they're lesser or not, because they have those masks that essentially "fake" what other demons seem to have naturally (the multiple eyes, the horns) but I'm not sure if that means they use that to substitute or if it's the other way around. It kind of feels like paying tribute to those characteristics but I can't really... explain it well haha

The Countdown
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Summary: you and bucky have a small fight before a mission during the holidays and you’re both irked at each other.
Warnings: cursing, alcohol
Word Count: 2791
A/N: inspired by s1e14 of the oc titled ‘the countdown’. i only watched the first season, but i always thought the new year’s kiss moment was beautiful. i listened to dice by finley quaye a lot while writing this (also found this song on the same episode of the oc)
_______________________________________________________________________
“You were supposed to be home for the holidays! And for the new year!” You say, irritation stewing in your belly. You cross your arms and shift your weight to your right side.
“I was home for Christmas! Doesn’t that count for something?” Bucky retorts.
“Neither of us even celebrate Christmas like that…”
“So? I was still here!”
“We were supposed to ring in the new decade together!”
“So what would you have me do? Tell the world to pause just because you want a New Year’s kiss?”
“Well, excuse me for wanting to start the new year and the new decade with my boyfriend! I guess I’m asking for too much from you, huh?”
“I guess you are!”
You roll your eyes so far to the back of your head that you are certain you can see the whites of your skull. You look away from him, so he can’t see the hurt in your chest. Why is he so nonchalant about it? Doesn’t it mean as much to him as it does to you?
Evidently not.
“Whatever. Have fun. Be safe I guess. Don’t get too injured. I won’t help you with anything more than bruised knuckles.”
I love you, you stupid idiot.
Bucky lets out a chuckle despite himself. He’s already dressed in his tactical suit, buckles and velcro done and all. You knew he had to go, but damn, would it kill him to look a little sad about leaving you for over a week and missing New Year's Eve and New Year's Day with you?
You can hear Sam calling for him out in the kitchen of your apartment.
“Well, I guess you’ve gotta go,” You shrug, “Have fun on your trip. You guys are going to Bali, right?”
“Don’t be like that,” Bucky murmurs, a faint cloud forming in his normally clear eyes.
“Enjoy your beers and your Mai-Tais, Samuel,” You call out, narrowing your eyes at Bucky.
“Leave me outta it, baby girl,” Sam replies.
You hand Bucky his black duffel, trying to thrust it at him and failing because of how heavy it was. He quirks his lips in amusement but falters when you send him a searing glare.
“I’ll see ya when I see ya,” Bucky says. You’re about ready to bite his head off. Why can’t he see it? Why can’t he feel it the way you do?
“Yeah. See ya when I see ya,” You echo, trying to swallow the lump in your throat.
***
“‘See ya when I see ya?’ That was the saddest string of words in the English language I’ve ever heard,” Sam says, thumping Bucky on the back of his head.
“Oh really? Thanks for your opinion,” Bucky snarks, “She knew I had to go!”
“So? She’s allowed to not be happy about it.”
Bucky silences him with a glare and Sam rolls his eyes.
“Y’all are both some idiots.”
***
Bucky hadn’t even kissed you goodbye or told you he was going to miss you. The thought that he wouldn’t miss you leaves you motionless and in tears.
Does he still love you? Does he even like you? How could he look at you like that, like you were annoying him? As if he didn’t love you more than life itself, as if he didn’t spend every night falling asleep to your soft, rhythmic breaths? As if his crevices didn’t match yours, as if his stormy blue didn’t seek your brown warmth?
Had he even looked at you like that? As if you were an annoyance to quell?
He hadn’t kissed you. He hadn’t said goodbye to you.
You can’t help but wonder- is he thinking about you?
***
You haven’t sent Bucky a single text, emoji, meme or photo. It’s been four days since Bucky said ‘he’d see ya when he sees ya’, and the words (or lack thereof) rattle in his mind mercilessly.
They could replace Hydra’s trigger words, he thinks darkly.
But you hadn’t even kissed him goodbye or told him you would miss him. He can’t get your sad, brown eyes out of his mind or the way you had folded in on yourself with your arms twisted together like vines after you had handed him your duffle bag.
He’s half expecting you to dump his stuff out in front of your apartment, indicating that you’re through with him and the darkness and the missions and the waiting and just… all of it.
You deserve better, he tells Sam grimly as they are staking out a Hydra base in the middle of Mount Batur in Bali. Bucky can’t help but think that Hydra is incredibly stupid for building a new base in such a heavy tourist location. But maybe they needed a change in scenery.
Sam had sent Bucky a glare, as if to say ‘is this really the best time?’
Bucky sighs, “Why was that so dramatic? ‘I’ll see you when I see you? Seriously? God, I want to electrocute myself every time I remember that I said that.”
“Tell Zemo that. He’ll be more than happy to fulfill that wish of yours,” Sam snorts.
“I miss her,” Bucky whines, “I’m so stupid, Sam.”
“So tell her,” Sam says simply with a small smile, “Including that last part. Multiple times.”
“I can’t believe I didn’t even kiss her or say goodbye. I’m the worst. But I wouldn’t blame her. If she wanted to go, I mean. I feel like I’m too much and not enough at the same time,” Bucky confesses softly, anxiety filling his voice.
“Sounds like you both need to sit down and talk. But before that, just call her-”
Bucky’s already calling you, eyes automatically searching for your name and the star emoji next to it. International fees be damned.
“I didn’t mean right now!”
***
You’re absent-mindedly scrolling on your phone, the blue light from the screen keeping your mind stimulated despite the fatigue behind your eyes. It’s 3:12 AM, you’re sleeping on Bucky’s side of the bed and you miss him. You wonder what he’s doing- is he safe? Is Sam safe? Is he protected? Does he know that you love him?
You can’t believe you let him go without saying goodbye, without a kiss, without telling him you loved him. You just said ‘you’d see him when you see him’. Well, in your defense, he said it first.
Hovering over his name, you contemplate calling him. Nah. He’s probably busy.
But he always told you he’d never be too busy for you. And that was true- you had called him a few times in the middle of anxiety attacks, or during a bout of insomnia- just to name a few instances. Despite the fact that he had been in the crux of a mission, fighting people off, dodging bullets left and right… He had tucked his cell phone in the crook of his neck and ear to calm you down in his low, comforting voice. You had been able to hear the rhythmic beats of his footsteps, with the occasional yell as he told you about his day, told you to follow his breaths, and listed the things he liked and loved about you. His voice was your favorite melody, a melody that fills you up with warmth and familiarity.
You sigh and stare at the ceiling before feeling the buzz of a phone call in the palm of your hand.
Bucky’s name with a yellow heart emoji, along with a photo of both of you pops up on your phone and you accept the call quickly, butterflies strumming in your belly.
“Hi,” You say breathlessly.
“Hi,” Bucky says, sounding equally as breathless. You can hear Sam yelling at him for being distracted, you can hear commotion, glass breaking and doors slamming. But it’s all background noise.
“Are you okay?” You ask, “It’s like… 8 AM over there. Early morning Hydra base break in?”
“Yeah. I haven’t even had a coffee yet, can you believe it?”
“Those Hydra guys won’t know what hit ‘em,” You chuckle.
There’s a beat of silence between both of you.
“Hey… I’m sorry I left things so weird before I left. I’ll see ya when I see ya? Who the fuck says that,” Bucky mutters and smiles when you laugh, “I miss you, I’m sorry I won’t be there to start the new year with you, sweetheart. I’m such an idiot. And I’m sorry I made you feel so small.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t say goodbye to you,” You whisper, “I miss you, I always do.”
“I know, honey. I always do, too,” Bucky murmurs, closely evading a punch to the stomach and a kick to the shins, “Save a kiss for me, will ya?”
Bucky groans when he gets punched in the nose and you wince at the cracking sound.
“Ouch, that didn’t sound so good,” You remark, “Come back to me in one piece, will ya?”
“I will,” Bucky promises, “I gotta bring you out here someday. You’d love it.”
“I think I would, too. Bali looks beautiful. We’d both get nice and tan on those pretty beaches.”
“You’re already tan,” Bucky snorts, “You’d get that nice, bronzed glow.”
“And don’t you forget it,” You yawn widely.
“Get some rest, honey,” Bucky murmurs. You hear a muffled explosion in the background and somehow you still yawn.
“Be careful out there, sweetheart,” You reply mildly and then after a second, “I’ll see ya when I see ya.”
“Stop making fun of me,” Bucky whines and you laugh.
“Goodnight, honey.”
***
Specks of gold sit on the walls of your friend’s apartment, glittering at every turn of your head. It’s simple, paired with a large balloon of a bottle of Moet champagne, with smaller balloons coming out of the opening of the bottle. Strings of pale yellow fairy lights line the ceilings of the apartment, casting a slight glow on everyone in attendance.
Your friends have outdone themselves this year. They had asked for your recommendations on decorations, which had been your duty. So truly, you had outdone yourself this year. There is a station for champagne bottles chilling in buckets of ice and champagne flutes. And another station of liquor, mixers and solo cups to drink out of, as well as finger foods and snacks. It had been a potluck style party and everyone brought different entrees to have for dinner.
You had objected to the red solo cups- “We can afford to drink out of something nicer than red solo cups!”
And the subsequent retort- “And who’s going to wash all the glasses, huh?”
So the red solo cups stayed and you tried your best to not think about how out of place they looked with all of the gold and glitter. Everyone was wearing a mix of black, silver, gold or burgundy. And you? You were wearing a silk, olive green camisole, black pants and a black blazer with a glittery finish to it. Golden teardrops hang on your earlobes, swishing with every turn of your head and a necklace that Bucky had bought you sits along on the column of your throat. You had left your chunky heels at the door- of course you wanted to show off your New Year’s manicure and pedicure to your friends.
Several rounds of games go by- Cards Against Humanity, What do you Meme, and of course, beer pong and flip cup and then more food and drink. It’s about thirty minutes to midnight and you haven’t heard from Bucky in a few hours. You had sent him photos of yourself getting ready, selfies with your friends and of the decorations. All of the texts say that they’ve been delivered. But maybe he’s busy.
You’re starting to feel the sting a little bit when couples start to get cozy with one another, some cuddling subtly and some cuddling not so subtly. You check your phone once more, wondering where in the world Bucky could be. At least you have the solace that he’s safe- he had told you that everything was okay, they had gotten the information they needed. Him and Sam were safe.
Sticking your phone in the back pocket of your pants and fixing yourself a mixed drink, you rally everyone together for toasts to end the decade off. With Bucky burning brightly in the back of your mind.
***
You call Bucky at 11:56 PM. You’re not sure where he is, if he’ll even have cell reception, but you do it anyway. He doesn’t answer and you go straight to voicemail. It’s 11:58 PM by the time you decide to leave him a voicemail.
“Hi,” You begin, “Um… It’s probably already next year where you are, right? Happy new year, honey. To many more new years, new adventures and new… everything. I’ll text you in the morning, miss you, love you.”
With your heart feeling a little lighter, you join your friends in the living room to watch the countdown live. You don’t notice that one of your friends has disappeared and another one has a sly look on her face when she glances over to you.
***
Bucky is sweating bullets. He’s been running around the city for the last hour, from one edge to another. Sam and Bucky had finished up their mission late on the day before New Year’s Eve and Bucky thought it would be cute to surprise you before midnight on New Year’s day.
But of course, their quinjet had had a few technical difficulties, they had run into some trouble, and it had taken them behind schedule a few hours.
So now, Bucky is currently sprinting to Williamsburg from the subway station because the subway car going to Brooklyn is currently out of service for the next forty-five minutes.
Just his luck. This is the most stressed Bucky has probably ever been.
***
It’s 11:56 PM when Bucky feels his phone vibrating. He quickly checks who it is, silencing it when he sees that it’s you calling. Bucky is currently running up twelve flights of stairs to get to your friend’s apartment building. The elevator was taking far too long, and Bucky was far too impatient to wait.
To the twelfth floor he goes.
Bucky hears his phone buzzing again, but just for a second. It’s a voicemail and he’s certain it’s from you. His heart sputters for a moment at the thought of you missing him. As it always does.
Just two more floors to go. Sam would mock him for how long it’s taking him to get to the twelfth floor.
With wide eyes and his chest heaving, he sprints down the corridor to apartment number 12-303. He has to make it, he has to get to you before…
Ten!
Apartment 12-295 is on his right.
Nine!
Apartment 12-299…
Eight!
Apartment 12-301…
Much to his relief, the door to apartment 12-303 is unlocked. He had texted your friends hours ago, asking them to please leave the door unlocked. At least that had gone according to plan.
Your friends peek over to see him at the doorway and each give him a smug smile. Your back is facing away from him as you’re watching the countdown on the television screen. You turn your head a fraction, looking over your shoulder to call out for everyone to come watch the countdown, and then you see him.
You gasp loudly, hands over your mouth in complete surprise. Your heart is singing for him, begging you to to join him. You’re tethered to him, feet moving of their own accord. Time stops for a moment, the faint sounds of the seconds counting down were nothing but static in your ears. All you can see is Bucky. Bucky who had done who knows what to make this special for you.
Bucky’s right in front of you with a small smile. He pulls you to him, not wasting a second before pressing his lips to yours just as the raucous cheers of happy new year go off around them. It’s just Bucky and you standing there with his hands cupping your cheeks and your hands light on his wrists. Glitter and confetti gently falls on his shoulders and your dark hair, giving you a crown of sparkles. Your soul is aflame, and you’re unable to keep yourself from smiling into the kiss.
He pulls away with bitten lips and rests his forehead against yours. He pulls a speck of confetti from your nose and kisses you once more.
“Happy new year’s, honey,” Bucky murmurs.
“Happy new year’s, baby,” You say, kissing his chin, “Thank you for doin’ this for me.”
“I told ya,” Bucky grins, lopsided and your favorite, “Told ya I’d see ya when I see ya.”

Masterlink in Pinned Post!
"Okay, like this?"
Allison giggled at Olivia, enjoying the way she held the Chinese ring daggers that the shorter brunette had insisted that Allison teach her how to use. Right now, Olivia held them loosely, the tip of the blades closer to cutting her wrists more than protecting herself.
"Stop laughing at me!" Olivia called her out with amused eyes. "I'm trying to be a badass like you!"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Allison choked down the rest of her laughter. "Let's start over."
Olivia nodded and put the daggers back to the starting position that Allison had taught her. "Okay, now what?"
"Now, you twist them like this," Allison demonstrated the move with the set she was using. "and then you flip your wrists up and raise your arms like this."
Olivia did as Allison told her, wincing at the slight bruises starting to form around the base of her fingers. Chinese ring daggers were no joke and now she understood why Allison came to school with bandages around her fingers for a couple of weeks the previous semester of school.
She did the move sloppily, nowhere near as sharp as Allison's, of course, but that was expected. Allison nodded in approval, a small smile forming at her lips. "All right, keep practicing that," she said encouragingly. "Once you tighten that up, we can move onto the next move."
"Considering that I'm not athletic whatsoever, I think that went okay," Olivia breathed as she slipped the daggers off of her fingers.
Allison laughed. "Does that mean you want to try the crossbow?"
"Don't even think about it, Al!"
-
Olivia walked through the woods surrounding the old Hale House. They were training Jackson about control before he headed off to London, England. To say that he was being a bitch about it all would be an understatement. He was taking his temper out on her and Scott—he was upset about what he had done as the kanima, his brush with death, and the fact that his parents had found out what happened and were moving the family to London for no other reason than to get him away from everything supernatural.
Olivia could take his temper and his snide comments because she had seven or eight years to get used to it. Scott, however, did not. Too many comments about he used to suck at lacrosse and cheated the whole semester, how he used to have only Stiles as a friend, his mom's income, and Allison breaking up with him had gotten to Scott.
He stomped away with golden eyes, leaving her to deal with Jackson on her own. Since she was still harnessing her own abilities, she just sent Jackson home for the day and then proceeded to go and find Scott. She found him by a small creek, sitting on the bank.
"Hey," she called as she walked over and sat down next to him. "You okay?"
"I'm fine," he told her quietly. "Just lost control for a second."
"Anyone would have. Jackson's a dickhead. I don't know how he has more two friends," she huffed out a laugh. "Other than me and Danny, I think the rest are just afraid of him."
Scott's lips quirked into a half-smile. "Probably," he hesitated. "Have you, uh, have you heard from Allison?"
Olivia frowned as she thought of her friend. "A couple of nights ago. She's not doing too well. I think Gerard messed her up just as much as her mom's death."
"He's a psycho," Scott agreed. "Did she ask you about me?"
She hesitated, not wanting to hurt his feelings—how had she become this empathetic person? "I'm sorry, Scott, but no," when Scott ducked his head, she reached for his hand and took it, trying to give him as much support as he needed. "I know it hurts but she's going through a tough time. And you're both different people now, you've both changed."
"So does that mean she won't want to get back together?" Scott asked miserably, lifting his head to look at her with wet eyes.
"I don't know," she answered honestly. "But, Scott, listen. I know you love her, I know you do. And what you had was amazing and odds-defying. But sometimes relationships don't last. It doesn't mean that those people don't love each other, but sometimes circumstances can alter the path of the relationship."
Scott frowned and looked back at the creek. "I really love her."
"I know," she squeezed his hand. "but sometimes love isn't enough. Then again, I can't predict the future. Allison may come back from France and want to get back together, she may not. I just want you to be ready for whatever she decides, okay?"
"...Okay," Scott said after a minute and then attempted to smile at her, changing the subject only slightly. "Are you a love guru or something, Liv?"
Olivia laughed. "Nah, I'm not so good at love."
"That's not what Stiles says."
"Hey," she slapped is arm playfully. "You guys talk about me?"
"A little too much—ow, Liv!"
-
Derek sighed reluctantly as he sat Olivia down on her bed, taking a seat in the armchair a few feet away. "Okay, I didn't want to have to do this, but you and Stiles—"
"Oh no. Oh, God, please don't do this," Olivia pleaded with her cousin, her cheeks warming up. "Derek just walk away."
"No, I have to get this out," Derek insisted. "You have no one else to tell you."
"Uh, yes I—"
"Obviously, you and Stiles are in a serious relationship," Derek interrupted her. "and with a serious relationship comes...personal relations."
"Personal relations?" she looked at him in disbelief. "What are you, eighty-five years old?"
"Fine, sex," Derek glared at her. "You and Stiles will start having sex."
Olivia sighed and though she appreciated that he was there to give her advice and take care of her, Natalie had given her and Lydia the typical parental sex talk when they were eleven and twelve and they got their periods around the same time. Then, a few years later, Lydia gave her an actual sex talk after her experiences with some boys and then Jackson—the kind of talk that was rated R and too inappropriate for parents to talk about with their kids.
"Now, you probably won't experience this, because I'm tempted to rip off Stiles arms if he doesn't keep his hands to himself, but," Derek winced, looking more uncomfortable than she felt. "but sex...is...natural."
"Derek, please..."
"Just let me get this out before I lose my nerve," Derek cut her off; Olivia nodded, her lips twisting in amusement. "Under no circumstances are you to have sex without a condom. Only when you're married and want to have a family is when it's accepted to go without."
Olivia hid her smile to nod seriously. "Okay."
"And never, ever do anything you're uncomfortable with," Derek continued. "If you say no, Stiles will stop if he's a good guy. If not, I put pepper spray on your keys and a rape whistle in your purse."
"Oh, God..."
Stiles was not a guy who would put his hands on anyone without their express permission. Usually he was a nervous wreck anyway if they did something sexual. And he was always respectful of her. But, if he was out of his mind or crazy enough to force her into relations—as Derek called it—than she would kick his ass. And then break up with him. She loved him but she loved herself too and she was not going to put up with that.
When Olivia nodded her understanding, Derek cleared his throat. "Now..."
He paused to pull something from behind his back. Olivia's mouth fell open when she saw what he had. "Oh, my God...please tell me that's not a banana and a condom, Der! Oh, my God, it is!" she winced and buried her burning face into her hands. "Please don't do this Derek."
"I want you to learn how to put on a condom."
"I didn't want to say this, but Derek, I've already had this talk, two different times, okay?" her voice was muffled by her hands, but Derek got the gist; he looked horrified. "Lydia even taught me how to put on a condom."
She almost added that she knew how to do it multiple ways, but Derek looked like he wanted to die from embarrassment from what he had already heard.
He glared at her. "Why did you let me ramble on?!"
"I didn't let you ramble on, you kept interrupting me!"
"You're grounded!"
A genuine laugh spilled from Olivia's lips. "You can't ground me!"
"Well, I just did, so there!"

"Top five favorite ice creams. Go."
Olivia blinked in surprise from Stiles' random prompt. They were on the beach, laying on their towels and trying to tan after a dip in the ocean. She raised up onto her elbows—she was laying on her stomach—and looked down at Stiles, from where he was laying on his back, hair halfway grown out and the black ray bans she gave him as a gift on the bridge of his nose.
"I don't like ice cream very much," she told him.
"There's not way you don't like ice cream," Stiles disagreed; she shook her head. "Come on, you don't even like chocolate-chip cookie dough?"
"I don't like raw cookie dough."
"Unbelievable. I'm in love with a heathen," Stiles joked. "So, not one ice cream?"
"I have two that I usually get if I actually want ice cream," she confessed. "I like vanilla and mint."
Stiles looked up at her in disbelief. "Vanilla and mint?" when she nodded, he scoffed. "Sorry, nope, I'm not dating a heathen, I'm dating a senior citizen."
"Hey!" she gently slapped his toned abdomen in offense. "I'm younger than you."
"Your favorite ice cream flavors are vanilla, which is the most basic out of all the flavors, and mint—without chocolate, by the way—which only adults eat. No offense, babe, but you need to live on the edge sometimes."
Olivia pinched his side because of the pet name and laughed. "Living on the edge is eating different ice cream flavors? Wow, what a life you live, Stiles."
He poked her in the cheek. "At least I don't have the personality of an old lady."
"Ouch, that really hurt."
"Hey, I'm just saying," Stiles put his hands up defensively. "All right, how about the worst five moments of your life?"
Olivia raised her eyebrows. "What a serious change of topic."
"Here, I'll pick a new one—"
"No, it's okay," she assured him. She leant toward him more and rested her head on his stomach, facing him. "Number five would be my very first day of school."
"Really?" that surprised Stiles. "You love school, though."
"I do now. Before I started school, I hung out with either Lydia, or Cora, Derek, and Laura," she shared with him. "They were all my heroes and my best friends. And I'm a year younger than Lydia and Cora, so I didn't start school with them and it made me so upset that I threw a fit."
"You, having a tantrum? Wow, I didn't expect that," Stiles commented sarcastically.
"I really was an angel," Olivia went along with him and then went back to the story. "Anyway, my mom started teaching me stuff because she was in college studying to be a teacher. By the time I went to preschool, I was too advanced and I was miserable because Lydia and Cora weren't with me."
"So they let you skip a grade."
Olivia nodded. "I tested out of preschool and went right to kindergarten."
"We had class together," Stiles remembered. "You were quiet."
"And you were weird," Olivia returned with a laugh.
Stiles joined in with her laughter. "All right, what about number four?"
"Number four was when I was seven years old and I realized that I wasn't able to draw," at the look Stiles gave her, she defended herself. "In my defense, I wanted to be an artist back then. And I was not good at art. At all. I was always jealous of Lydia's ability to do anything, especially draw."
"You shouldn't compare yourself to Lydia," Stiles scolded her quietly. "You're perfect, even with all your flaws."
Olivia smiled gently, touched by his words. "Thanks, Stiles."
They kept going with her worst moments in her life. Her third worst moment was when she and Cora got lost in the woods outside of the old Hale House when they were five or so. She had been really scared and Cora hadn't yet mastered her enhanced sense of smell, so they were stuck out there for four hours—when Talia and Peter had found them, they were grounded for two weeks. Her second worst moment was the night of winter formal, when Peter had bitten Lydia and herself.
"The worst moment of my life was when I heard about the fire," she said quietly, tracing the pattern of Stiles' freckles on his stomach. "Everyone but Laura and Derek were in the fire. They came to me and told me what happened. Our whole family was dead, my mom was dead, and my dad barely survived."
Stiles brushed his fingers through her hair; he knew what it felt like to lose a parent and he couldn't imagine what it was like to lose two at the same time—because she had lost Peter, too, even if he wasn't dead. He just turned into a psychotic alpha who wanted revenge without carrying about those closest to him.
"I was lost for a really long time," she admitted quietly. "Derek and Laura left for New York and I was suddenly living with Lydia, Uncle Thomas, and Aunt Natalie. But I eventually got better."
"Yeah, you did," Stiles gazed at her with soft, loving eyes. "and you're the strongest person I know."
"I'm not strong," she denied, avoiding his eyes. "I'm a coward. I hide my feelings away deep down inside of me. I act like a bitch to anyone I don't care about. Most of the time I'm an emotionless robot."
"No, you're not," Stiles sat up and simultaneously adjusted her until she was sitting in his lap. "The people who say you're emotionless don't take the time to pay attention to you. I'm sorry, Livvy, but you're actually very easy to read."
Olivia gaped at him, unsure if she should be insulted or relieved. Maybe it was a little bit of both; she was a little insulted because her emotionless robot mask was a comfort to her and not to mention, something to push away all of her negative feelings. On the other hand, it was special to her that Stiles was able to read her so soundly. The only other people who had been able to were Lydia and Derek but Stiles being able to, the boy she loved...that was amazing.
"I love you."
"I love you, too," Stiles emphasized his words with a quick but loving kiss. "Okay, that's enough seriousness for now."
"Mmm, I agree," Olivia smiled at him.
"So, how about...your top five pizza toppings?"
"Well, number one is pepperoni..."
"Ah, what a classic."

Olivia woke up eight hours after Stiles, Scott, and Allison had fallen unconscious. Lydia and Isaac were sound asleep but Dr. Deaton was awake and there to greet her when she woke up. She was disoriented, the memories with Allison, Scott, Derek, and Stiles going through her mind like flashes.
She didn't tell Deaton about the memories, but instead thought on them. It didn't take long to realize that one of those memories were unlike the other. Derek hadn't been in the ritual like the others, so why did she see him?
It worried her. It worried her so much that she excused herself from the exam room and called Derek. It was Cora who answered the call, shockingly—she had no idea how Cora was better but boy, was she glad that she was. She told Cora that she was worried about Derek and in return, Cora told her just how she hadn't gotten better. Derek had given up his alpha status to heal Cora; he was now a beta again and very, very weak at the moment.
Olivia checked her tethers and she saw that Cora was right. Derek's tether was bright blue again, like the color of his eyes before he killed Peter and became an alpha. It was strange, but it was more worrying than the memory she had. Kali and the twins were supposed to come for Derek before the lunar eclipse and not only was he not an alpha anymore, but he was tired from healing Cora. He was screwed.
She told Cora that she would call back soon before hanging up. Then, she cried. She cried for Derek, she cried for Stiles and Allison and Scott, for Noah, Melissa, and Argent, and finally, for herself.
The whispers in her head were loud and they were pressing. She could no longer focus on anything but the names of her loved ones and the pain that filled her heart from her loss, even if Stiles, Scott, and Allison came back. She had the potential of losing the boyfriend she loved, two friends, and Derek, her protector, guardian, and father-figure for all intents and purposes.
It was not okay. None of this was okay.
Stiles, Allison, Scott...Derek, Derek, Derek...Stiles, Allison, Scott...Over and over, came the whispers until a migraine grew and she fell asleep once again.
She woke up only three hours later, more collected. She stayed seated in between Isaac and Lydia, who had now woken up for the day, and they all listened to assurances from Dr. Deaton that Stiles, Scott, and Allison would be okay. There was worry in his voice but somehow, his words comforted them. Olivia had the feeling that the man could give someone the worst news of their life and still be a comfort.
It was eight hours after the first time Olivia woke up, sixteen hours after they first fell unconscious, when Stiles, Allison, and Scott all woke, sitting up out of the water with loud gasps. Olivia, Lydia, Isaac, and Deaton rushed over to the tubs, the ice long gone, and handed the three of them towels.
"I saw it, I know where it is!" Scott claimed, taking the towel that Lydia held out for him.
Stiles nodded. "We passed it," Stiles confirmed as he climbed out of the tub soaking wet. "There's—there's a stump, this huge tree. Well, it's not huge anymore, it was cut down. But it's still big, though, very big."
As Olivia wrapped a towel around him, Scott added, "It was the night we were looking for the body."
"Yeah, the same night you were bit by Peter."
"I was there, too, in the car with my mother," Allison was still sucking in huge gulps of air. "We almost hit someone."
"It was me. You almost hit me," Scott told her; Allison gasped in amazement while he turned to the others. "We can find it."
Olivia, Lydia, and Isaac all exchanged worried looks. It didn't go unnoticed by Allison, Scott, and Stiles.
"What?" Allison asked them.
Isaac was the one to answer them. "You guys were out a long time."
"How long is a long time?" Stiles wondered, glancing between the three of them and then over to Dr. Deaton.
"Sixteen hours," Deaton broke the news.
Scott's eyes widened in shock. "We've been in the water for sixteen hours?"
Dr. Deaton nodded. "And the full moon rises in less than four."
Scott sighed heavily and sat down on the rim of his tub. "I have to go back to the alpha pack."
Olivia gulped uncomfortably and spoke up, "I think I should go with you, too."
Scott looked at her with an understanding expression and nodded slowly.
"No, dude, you are not going back with them," Stiles told Scott firmly before pointing to Olivia. "And you, don't even think about it, all right?"
"I made a deal with Deucalion," Scott reminded him. "And he wants Olivia, too. A lot."
Stiles scoffed. "Does anyone else think that sounds a lot like a deal with the devil?"
"What does it matter, anyway?" Isaac piped up from his seat next to Allison.
"Because I still don't think we can beat Jennifer without their help."
Allison shook her head at Scott's answer and turned to Dr. Deaton pleadingly. "He trusts you more than anyone and Liv is obviously going to agree with him. Tell them they're wrong."
Deaton glanced at Olivia and then Scott. "I'm not so sure they are," he admitted. "Circumstances like this sometimes require that you align yourself with people you'd normally consider enemies."
"So we're gonna trust Deucalion?" Isaac shook his head in disbelief. "The guy that calls himself death, destroyer of worlds? We're gonna trust that guy?
"I wouldn't trust him, no," Deaton advised and gestured to Olivia and Scott. "But you guys could use him to your advantage. Deucalion may be the enemy, but he could also be the bait."
They all paused as they heard the door to the lobby open. Deaton went out first, and when they heard Ethan's voice, Olivia, Lydia, Stiles, and Scott joined him.
"I'm looking for Lydia," he told them.
Lydia looked at him expectantly. "What do you want?"
"I need your help."
Olivia gave him a suspicious look. "With what?"
"Stopping my brother and Kali," he paused only for a second. "from killing Derek."
Olivia lifted her chin, all of her concern for Derek coming back into focus. Stiles, Scott, and Allison were all right, but what about Derek? His tether was still shining bright blue and although it wasn't enough to take all of her focus, his name was still floating around in her head.
"You should go, Lydia," Olivia cleared her throat. She had never liked Lydia's relationship—if anyone could even call it that—with Aiden, but there was at least one benefit from it, other than Lydia's happiness. And it was that Lydia had a hold over him. If she could convince Aiden to not kill Derek, then maybe he had a shot at surviving.
Lydia looked at her like she was crazy. "Are you sure?"
"All day, I've been hearing warnings about Derek," she confessed, glancing at Ethan. "I don't know if he's going to survive or not, but if you can convince Aiden, maybe..."
"We'll turn against Kali," Ethan spoke up in agreement with her. "We won't let her kill Derek."
Lydia didn't think it over very long, but that was Lydia; she was brave. "Okay," she agreed and gave Olivia a quick hug. "Just be careful."
"No, you be careful," Olivia insisted; Lydia smiled at her and when she walked out the door with Ethan, she turned back to the others. "Okay, what's the plan?"
-
"Just grab anything," Scott told Stiles through the phone as he, Olivia, Allison, and Isaac got out of the elevator in Allison's building and headed to her apartment door. "Stiles, I'm not smelling your dad's boxers. Socks? Okay, I'll smell the socks."
He ended the call and as Allison unlocked the door, Isaac asked, "What about me?"
"See what you can find in my dad's closet," the door opened and they all filed in. "Anything with the strongest scent."
Allison opened the door to her dad's office and stopped in her tracks, making Olivia, who was right behind her, slam into her. In the office was Agent McCall and two deputies, waiting for them at the desk.
"Quite the arsenal your fathers got here, young lady," as McCall spoke, Scott came up behind Olivia and stared at his dad in shock. "Scott."
Scott carefully squeezed past Olivia and Allison to enter the room. "What are you doing here?"
"Following one of the only leads I have," McCall stood from Mr. Argent's desk chair. "Now, since I don't know where you've been, why don't you have a seat and we can talk? You too, Isaac."
Isaac, who had been hiding in the hallway, came and stood next to Olivia. "How do you know my name?"
"Your name's one of the few things I know," McCall told him. "To be honest, the rest of what's going on around here has be stumbling in the dark, even over the smallest clue."
"If you're trying to tell me that you don't have a clue, I learned that a long time ago," Scott glared at his dad.
"I'm really hoping to avoid the embarrassment of dragging my own son into an interrogation room," McCall said firmly, meaning business. "Really hoping."
Olivia, Allison, and Isaac entered the office. Scott and Isaac let Olivia and Allison take the chairs and stood behind them. None of them were taking this very seriously; Isaac was eating some Icebreaker mints, for crying out loud.
"I'm not gonna lie, I'm more than a little disturbed," McCall admitted. "Not only by the number of missing parents, but the fact that it's Stiles' father, your father, and your mother."
Isaac shut his case of mints, popped one more into his mouth, and said, "Mine are both dead."
"Mine too," Olivia added, though, technically, that wasn't true. As far as anyone outside their little supernatural circle knew, Peter had disappeared from the long-term care unit in the hospital and had never been recovered.
"Save the cliché teenage apathy for your high school teachers," McCall glared at them. Olivia narrowed her eyes at him. What a dick. "The four of you know more than you're saying and I'm fully willing to keep you here all night if I have to."
"We don't know anything," Scott emphasized. "Stiles already told you that."
"And you can't keep us here," Olivia glared at the giant McCall, recalling some of the information her Uncle Thomas told her about his job. "Not without some kind of warrant."
Agent McCall gestured to the desk full of weapons. "I've got a desk full of probable cause."
Allison scoffed quietly and stood from her chair. "My father is a highly respected private security consultant and federally licensed firearms dealer. That means he has to own a few weapons," she told them as she stepped toward the desk. She pointed to a large crossbow and then a huge knife. "Like this one hundred and seventy-five-pound tactical crossbow or this carbon steel marine combat knife," she then poked at one of the handguns. ".50AE Desert Eagle..."
She stopped for a moment and hummed before picking up a smoke grenade. "A smoke grenade with pull-ring igniter," she pulled the ring and threw the grenade toward McCall and the deputies. "Go!"
Olivia, Scott, and Isaac all scrambled out of the office after her, ducking to avoid the smoke currently choking up McCall and the others. Olivia, Allison, and Isaac got into Allison's car and Scott sat on his motorbike and drove away from the apartment. They only stopped when they reached the woods, where a sign prohibited entrance to the preserve after dark.
As Olivia got out of the car, a scream ripped its way out of her throat. She didn't even notice that Isaac and Scott immediately covered their eyes, too focused on the feelings that overwhelmed her. Not only had Stiles gotten hurt—and she didn't know how, which worried her all the more—but Lydia was screaming and she felt everything her cousin felt. Someone was dead, more than one person was dead.
"Olivia, what's wrong?" Allison grabbed Olivia's hands, which were covering her ears, and pulled them away from her head as she stopped screaming. "Olivia?"
"Stiles is hurt," Olivia croaked, her throat now in horrible pain from the combination of the garrote and the loud scream that had escaped her. "And Lydia, she screamed. Someone's dead."
"Is it Derek or Stiles?" Scott asked worriedly.
"No, I would have known if it was," the tether that connected her with Derek wasn't lit and Stiles was, though it wasn't a dangerous feeling that came from it. "It's someone else. Maybe one of the alphas."
"I'll call Stiles and you can call Derek," Isaac offered.
Olivia nodded in agreement and pulled out her phone, quickly pressing on Derek's contact to call him.
"Ollie, what's wrong?" Derek answered a hint of panic in his voice. "We were on out way out of Beacon Hills when we heard Lydia scream."
"I think one of more of the alphas are dead," she told him. "Are you okay? Did you get out in time?"
"We did," Derek confirmed. "but we're heading back to the loft now to check on Lydia. I'll call you, okay?"
"Okay, be careful, both of you," Olivia bit the inside of her cheek. "Love you."
"Love you, Ollie," both Derek and Cora chorused before ending the call.
"I didn't get anything from Stiles," Isaac walked up to her side, giving her a worried look. "Did you get Derek?"
"Yeah, he's okay for now. He and Cora are going back to the loft to check on Lydia," Olivia told him as Scott and Allison walked over to them. "What if Stiles...?"
"He's not," Scott tried to comfort her. "I don't get it, though."
"Well, we can't wait for him," Isaac decided. "Come on."
They all turned away from the vehicles, only to come face-to-face with Deucalion. "You're cutting it a little close, aren't we, Scott?"
"We got a little delayed," Scott informed him. "Where are the others?"
They knew that one of them, if not all three of them, had died. When Deucalion spoke, he only confirmed it, unbeknownst to him. "Occupying themselves with other pursuits."
Olivia inhaled deeply and steeled her nerves, speaking up, "Well, I've come with Scott to join you. If you'll still have me, of course."
God, I can't believe I'm sucking up to a blind, psychotic, alpha werewolf, she lamented privately.
"Of course, you're still welcome," Deucalion said pleasantly. "You, Scott, and I will made a good team."
Olivia exchanged a nervous look with Scott before he turned to Allison and Isaac. "Okay, get Stiles and then get to the root cellar, okay?" he told them. "We'll keep Jennifer away long enough for you to get them out of there."
"How are you gonna do that?" Isaac wondered.
"I have a plan."
-
"Sir," Olivia spoke up uncomfortably. "Uh, Mr. Deucalion."
"Please, just call me Deucalion, Olivia," he chuckled pleasantly as they walked through the woods, heading to an unknown location.
"Deucalion, right," she corrected herself, ignoring the half-amused look that Scott was giving her. "I just wanted to know why you wanted me as part of your pack. I mean, other than the fact that I'm an anchoram."
"Anchorams are rare, as you likely know. But what you may not know, is that they are immensely powerful. You've harnessed most of your powers, yes?" he glanced at her, even though he most likely couldn't see her (Scott had told her what Gerard told him about Deucalion; he wasn't always blind).
"Some. I can calm a werewolf down if they're losing control, or use that same ability against them during a fight," Olivia shared her progress. "I know when my pack members are in danger or close to death and I know how to locate them."
"But's only for your pack mates," Deucalion said knowingly. "One day, when you master those abilities, you'll go on until you've unlocked them all."
"What do you mean?"
"At the height of your powers, you will be able to locate any supernatural creature in the world. You'll be able to use their strengths against them, like you do for werewolves now. You can physically make a werewolf lose their lycanthropy, making them human again," Deucalion listed, the most recent ability making Olivia and Scott shared a look of shock. "And, of course, using the banshee side of you, you will be able to predict the death of anyone you hold dear to your heart, not just your pack mates. Every anchoram is different, though."
She could hardly believe the magnitude of her abilities. In all honestly, it sounded like a lot. Maybe too much. "How do you know all of this?"
"My great-great-great-grandmother's mother was an anchoram," Deucalion told her. "Her name was Marguerite Richardson, nee Hale."
Olivia looked at him in surprise. "We're related?"
"Very distantly. I used to be great friends with your aunt."
"Wow."
She honestly didn't know how to react to that.
She and Deucalion fell silent and the three of them continued walking. The storm got progressively worse the more they walked on. The wind was strong, the rain felt like glass against their skin, and it was so dark Olivia was having trouble seeing, using only the outlines of Scott and Deucalion to keep going.
Finally, though they entered a distillery. The one that Derek and Paige used go when they wanted private time.
"You said you had a plan," Deucalion reminded Scott once they were under the protection of the metal roof.
"On the first day of class, Jennifer sent all of us a message. It was the last line from Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness," Scott told him. "I got a message of my own to send to her."
He proceeded to take out his phone and gave it to Olivia so she could film him. He stood in front of the revenge symbol that they all had seen many times before, and Olivia started filming.
"See this symbol?" he pointed at the swirl all the while glaring at the camera. "It's a symbol of revenge. You talk about balance, about saving people? We know what you really want...And now, you know where to find us."
Olivia stopped filming and handed the phone back to Scott, who sent the message to Jennifer right away.
"And now, we wait," Deucalion sighed.
They only waited ten minutes until they came. Yes, they; Derek was with Jennifer. It confused the hell out of Olivia. Was Jennifer forcing him onto her side? Was he actually on her side? Was he acting like he was on Jennifer's side to catch her off guard while he was really on their side?"
"Derek," she breathed. "what are you doing?"
"This might be hard to believe, but I'm actually trying to help you both," Derek eyed her and Scott meaningfully.
He was fooling Jennifer, he was actually on their side—not Deucalion's, Olivia's and Scott's side.
"Ooh, like brother against brother...and sister," Deucalion commented, almost tiredly. "How very American this is," he faced Jennifer as he brought together his seeing cane. "Are you ready, Jennifer, hmm? Did you gather your herbs, pray to your ancient gods and your oak trees, slit a baby's throat, perhaps? Should we show them why you needed to sacrifice nine innocent people just to face me? ...Or is it twelve now?"
Deucalion's eyes glowed red and his wolf features appeared on his face. Surprisingly, Derek was the one to make the first move. He swiped his arm at him, but Deucalion simply grabbed the arm, and then the other one. With Derek trapped, Jennifer went up to the plate. Using whatever powers she had, she threw them at Deucalion, expecting them to work.
Except they didn't.
As Scott slipped something into Olivia's hand, she closed her eyes and brought up her tether map. She found Deucalion easily this time, in between Derek's bright blue and Scott's orange tethers. It didn't surprise her, since Deucalion was clearly the most powerful werewolf she'd come across—it made since that he was easy to find. What would be hard, however, was fighting to use his control against him.
She heard grunts and groans from Jennifer and Derek as she focused on Deucalion's deep red dot, which was also larger than her the other werewolves she had come across. Despite how tired she was, both physically and mentally, she used all the power she had left to hit his dot with her bright purple blasts. She hit him but he actually was able to push back against her, forcefully making her take a step back.
She gritted her teeth and raised her hands toward him. She felt her power build within her and she projected it toward him. For a second, just a second, his features started to fade, long enough for Derek to knock him over. Then he was back up and throwing Derek across the distillery and then stomping toward Jennifer and lifting her up by the neck.
He forced her down on her knees in front of Scott. "Kill her," he ordered Scott, his voice demonic. "Do it."
Scott didn't move, though, and that pissed Deucalion off. He roared loudly, so powerfully that Olivia had to fight to stand and Scott dropped to the floor, his wolf features out on display.
"Now kill her," Deucalion demanded once again. "Your parents are dying. That storm you hear, she's burying them alive. It's her connection to the telluric currents. Kill her and it ends."
"It won't end," Jennifer objected forcefully. "Not with me. He'll have you kill everyone you love. It's what he does."
"They're dying, Scott," Deucalion tried to get Scott back on his side. "Your mother and the parents of your best friends. Kill her now and it's over. Become the alpha you were meant to be. Become a killer."
"Scott."
The firm way in which Olivia said her friend's name made him stiffen. She knew that she had given him some control over the shift that Deucalion forced upon him. They both knew that if Scott killed Jennifer, he would no longer be a true alpha. And that was exactly what Deucalion wanted from him.
Scott glared at Deucalion. "They're not dead yet."
"Who's going to save them? Your friends?"
Scott shook his head and said determinately, "My pack."
Deucalion looked at him for only a moment before he threw Jennifer to the side and raced over to Scott, snarling furiously. He grabbed one of Scott's clawed hands and held it up, forcing him to hold it out.
"Maybe you just need a little guidance," he gritted through his teeth, guiding him over to Jennifer.
At once, Olivia had her hands up again, the arrow tip that Scott had given her, which he snagged from Allison's apartment, in one hand. She pulled together her power. Her anger and fear and all that anxiety that had piled up inside adding to it.
She screamed as her power blasted itself into her tether map and right at Deucalion's dot. His grip on Scott immediately faltered so much that Scott managed to free himself and he staggered, blinking rapidly. \
"Scott!"
"I forgot to tell you something," Scott spoke loudly over the grunts that Deucalion forced out of his lips while he struggled to fight off Olivia's attack. "Something that Gerard told me. Deucalion isn't always blind."
At the same time as Scott, Olivia threw her arrowhead at the concrete by Deucalion's feet. Both of the arrowheads were flash bolts; they lit up at contact and Deucalion practically fell on the floor. Olivia winced at the bright light, obviously effected by the bolts, but not like Derek, Scott, and Deucalion were, and dropped her hands, more than a little tired out.
It didn't help that the lunar eclipse had started. Like werewolves lost their power during the eclipse, it appeared that she did too. She leaned one hand against the wall as Derek ran over to her, allowing him to steady her.
On all three werewolves, their features had gone away.
"The eclipse," Deucalion stumbled to his feet. "it started."
They all noticed that Jennifer was gone at the same time. As they all looked over to the entrance of the distillery, Scott whispered, "Oh, no."
Jennifer dramatically entered the distillery, her disguise of a beautiful face gone. She was also wearing a completely different outfit from before, which was pretty weird. Olivia didn't know how she changed within a minute and she had to admit she liked the outfit Jennifer was wearing before more than the one she was wearing now.
She shrieked as she held a handout to Scott and threw him against the wall. She didn't make a move toward Olivia, which had to do with the fact that she was leaning against Derek, but went straight to Deucalion. He fell to the floor and Jennifer was there beside him within a second, grabbing his head and bashing it against the concrete repeatedly.
Blood had started pouring out of the wound at the back of Deucalion's head and his eyes rolled back into his head before Derek interfered. "Jennifer!" she stopped and looked back at him. "He doesn't know."
"Know what?" she growled back at him.
"What you really look like," Derek told her. "He knows the cost of bringing Kali into his pack, but he's never seen the price you paid."
Jennifer paused for a full minute. "No. No, he hasn't," she said finally before turning her attention to Deucalion. She placed her hand over Deucalion's eyes and she must have healed them because he started to scream in pain. When Jennifer released him from her grip and stood up, she ordered him, "Turn to me. Turn to me!"
When Deucalion turned to face Jennifer, his blue eyes were no longer cloudy. Honestly, he didn't react too badly to Jennifer's real face. It didn't seem to be therapeutic for Jennifer like she thought it would be. She changed back to her fake face and pulled her right arm back to finally kill the alpha.
But instead, she faltered. Derek let go of Olivia, gesturing over at Scott to take his place since she didn't have much of her energy back, and walked over to Jennifer and caught her.
"What is this?" she asked weakly.
"Healing him made you weak, just like healing Cora did to me," Derek informed her. "You won't have your strength for at least a few minutes."
"Then you do it," Jennifer's voice broke. "Kill him."
"No."
She looked at Derek, surprised, while Olivia smiled proudly. "What?"
"Like my mother used to say, I'm a predator. I don't have to be a killer," Derek moved his hand from her back up to her neck, squeezing it tightly. "Let them go."
Jennifer struggled with his grip and gained enough of her strength back to throw Derek a few feet away from her. He landed against a random bale of hay and raced to him, punching him forcefully in the face, two times, then three times.
Olivia threw herself out of Scott's arms and into the line of fire. She pushed Derek away, knowing that the eclipse would end at any second, and received the blow that was meant for him to the face. Her head reared by from the hit, but she managed to kick Jennifer away from her.
At that moment, Olivia felt her powers rush back into her body. It felt like a vibration. Something that she had gotten so used to being there, she hadn't noticed it. The eclipse was over and Derek and Scott had their powers back—and so did Deucalion.
Derek flew through the air and hit Jennifer, holding her against the floor. "Your fifteen minutes are up."
Jennifer managed to get up and dodged the attack that Scott gave her. Before either of them do anything else, she had taken some mountain ash from her pocket and threw it around her, creating a barrier that would protect her from Scott, Derek, and Deucalion.
"Like I told you, Derek, either you or the parents," Jennifer said nastily. Apparently all of her "love" for Derek was gone. "Well, I guess I'll just have to take them now. In a few minutes, they'll be dead and I won't need a lunar eclipse, even to kill a demon wolf."
Derek and Olivia exchanged a horrified look. By the time they looked away, Scott had stormed over to the circle of mountain ash and held his hands up, pushing them against the supernatural barrier between him and Jennifer.
"You've tried this before, Scott," Jennifer taunted him. "I don't remember you having much success."
Scott pushed harder at the barrier, his body leaning further and further into it. Blue light streaked past his body as he broke into it, getting a hand through. The more he pushed through the barrier, the brighter his tether looked in Olivia's head, until finally, it turned a deep, alpha-werewolf red.
The barrier fell apart. Scott was an alpha.
Jennifer had fallen to the floor from the small eruption that occurred when the mountain ash barrier broke. She frantically crawled away from Scott, looking up at him with horrified amazement. "How did you do that?"
Scott glowered down at her. "I'm an alpha now," he said powerfully. "Whatever you're doing to cause this storm, make it stop or I'll kill you myself. I don't care what it does to the color of my eyes."
"It won't change the color of mine, so allow me," Deucalion growled as he strode past Scott. With one swift move, he threw his clawed hand forward and slit the length of Jennifer's throat. She choked on her own blood and she slumped down onto the ground, dead. Olivia was not reluctant to admit that she was glad to see Jennifer dead.
As soon as Jennifer's heart stopped, the storm above them ceased. Olivia slowly reached for her pocket, the blood loss from the blow she received on her face from Jennifer making her sluggish, and called Stiles, hoping that he and everyone else was uninjured and safe.
"Olivia?"
"Hi," Olivia sighed in relief from just hearing his voice. "are you okay?"
"Yeah, we're okay," he confirmed. "We're all okay. What about you and Scott, are you okay?"
Olivia glanced at Scott and Derek, who stood close together discussing something. "Sort of."
"Do you think you and Scott could come and get us?"
"Yeah, of course."
"Great," Stiles huffed out a laugh. "And, uh, bring a ladder."
"I'll get right on that," Olivia giggled. "Hang tight. We'll be there soon."
Derek walked over to her as she ended the call, bent down, and helped her to her feet. He wrapped an arm around her and let her lean all of her weight against him while they walked over to Scott, who was standing in front of Deucalion with a stern look on his face.
"My mother told me you were a man of vision once," Derek told Deucalion, his voice strong. "We're letting you go because we hope you can be that man again."
"But if you're not, then having your eyesight back won't matter," Scott threatened him. "because you'll never see us coming."
With that, the three of them turned around and left the distillery.
-
Unfortunately, Olivia ended up in the hospital once everything was over. Because of Jennifer's strength, she had a concussion and the bruising around her neck was worse than she, or anyone, thought. She only stayed for one night and by the next morning, she was itching to get out of there. She wasn't a fan of hospitals, especially Beacon Hills Memorial—no offense meant to Melissa.
That morning, only two hours before Natalie was supposed to come and get her checked out, Derek and Cora interrupted her and Stiles' conversation. Just by the looks on their faces, she didn't like what they were going to tell her.
Yeah, she really didn't like it.
Cora was the first to speak. "Ollie—"
"You're leaving again, aren't you?" Olivia interrupted her, recognizing the guilt on her face.
"I am," Cora confirmed with a slight nod. "With Derek no longer an alpha and Boyd gone...I can't stay. I don't really...get along with your friends."
Olivia frowned but ultimately, she knew Cora had found a good life down in South America where she had been living for the past six and a half years. She was going to miss her fiercely, especially since she just discovered that she was alive, but she had to let Cora go so she could be happy.
"You'll call, right?" Olivia asked finally.
"Of course I will," Cora leaned forward and gave her a goodbye hug. "I love you, Ollie."
"I love you, too," she said as Cora pulled back. She looked at Derek and added, "Let me guess, you're going with her."
"Just dropping her off," Derek corrected her. "Peter's coming too."
"And you're coming back?" she checked, a little worried that they wouldn't be back and she'd lose her Hale family members all in one go.
Derek heard her heart start to race. "We'll come back," he confirmed taking her head and squeezing it. "Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone."
"How can I? You're taking all the stupid with you," Olivia finished the quote, thanking whatever supreme being that was out there for Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, and the friendship that came out of Captain America: The First Avenger. "I love you, Der."
"I love you, too, Ollie," he promised. "We'll send Stiles back in. Remember what I told you—"
"Wear a condom, yeah I got it."
"Actually, I was going to remind you about the pepper spray and rape whistle."
"Get out of here!" Olivia took the paper cup she had been drinking out of and threw it at Derek, who caught it easily.
Derek laughed and he and Cora left the room, giving her one last goodbye. Her smile slipped from her lips as she watched them walk away, but she wasn't able to be sad for long. Stiles had waltzed right back into the room and took his seat on the chair next to her bed.
"So," he grinned at her. "We defeated Jennifer and Deucalion is no longer his evil self. You know what that means?"
"No, but I bet you're going to tell me," she smiled back at him.
Stiles chuckled. "I am. It's time to get engaged."
"Ha! Very funny, sweetcheeks."

The Untamed episode 39 + 40 liveblog
Not sure how this is going to end, but I think this arc is wrapping up.
I can’t tell if he’s doing something magic or if he’s just really good at sneaking around in fog
Yikes, that was a pretty close call. Good thing Wen Ning caught on so fast.
Bringing up the actor friend again
Oh, Wen Ning kept his chains, just as like weapons/reinforcement then?
Wait, I thought she was a ghost already?
Guess not?
Wait, was that Song Lan back to having normal eyes again?
Shoot here’s the masked guy- is he the actor friend? He’s the only other one associated with Xue Yang at the moment.
And he’s gone.
Oh, the girl has the puppet marks too?
Stabbed 3 times!?
Yeah I’d give Song Lan the final blow here
Oh, there is something weird with his finger
Kind of just yikes at Xue Yang’s whole monologue
:,(
Oh no
I wasn’t initially expecting that to be how he got his neck wound, but after the last episode... yeah
Wow, that seems really lacking compared to the setup that WWX had for Wen Ning.
Can’t fully feel bad for him at this point, but it is kind of hard to watch
Threatening the guy isn’t going to help if it’s still just a corpse
Guess the guy really was the first person to treat him alright huh
Who left the candy there while he’s dying?
It’s a sweet gesture (no pun intended), but unless he was using Song Lan to ferry them around, who’d even have them??
I wonder how long there been there after that.
Where’d Song Lan go?
Oh they made a grave for her :,)
Wait, they’re just leaving Wen Ning and the disciples together?
Oh there he is. He doesn’t have the markings?? I thought he was, like, still undead, surely?
Awww his plans are very sweet, even if tragic. Is he keeping the spirit bag on him along with the sword?
The white sword + carrier really contrasts the rest of his outfit in a nice way
cut from Song Lan with his sword to both of them walking together, my heart
:,)
I think this might be the last we see if either of them, honestly - it feels pretty final.
I’m so glad I wasn’t more attached to these guys - they don’t have the luxury of the fallen half of the pair getting resurrected, and it hurts enough as it is.
Wait, what was in the bag that went into the coffin?
A second coffin underneath it!?
Is that Nie Mingjue? The robes look like the same pattern.
They cut away but I’m going to assume it was.
Okay more focus on the disciples, particularly on Lan Sizhui at the toy stalls
The butterfly for younger kids, then? I think Wen Yuan had one in a stick, right?
Okay there was a lot of emphasis being put on that butterfly
Wait. Wait that quick flashback cut was one of Wen Yuan and his toy, wasn’t it!?
Is. Is the implication that Lan Sizhui is Wen Yuan. Am I reading this right? I’m fairly certain, but I’m also like !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! right now
How’d he get to Gusu, though? None of the Wens were cultivators, right? And the burial grounds were far away - they only had 3 days before WWX could get up.
I’m sure it’ll be elaborated on, I’ve just had this screen paused for like a solid 5 minutes to type this all out on my phone.
Anyway !!!!!!!!!!
Awwww WWX flashing back to Wen Yuan too
That’s definitely the intended connection to draw, okay.
!!!!
Just hands Lan Sizhui the lantern with no explanation, haha
Oh good he’s got his mask back on
It was headless!?
That is a lot of data points on the masked guy
The implied ‘him’ is Meng Yao, I’m assuming?
Yeah I’m not sure that he’s a good enough fighter (or cultivator) to do all this, but I guess he could be getting someone else to? Maybe?
And now for whatever the disciples are discussing, I guess
Ouch, Jin Ling
LAN XICHEN KNOWS, OKAY
wasn’t expecting him to just. address him like that out of the blue
End notes:
Okay. Okay that was a lot.
We got our last bit of flashbacks from Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen, backstory Xue Yang, and probably the last we’ll see of either party.
We also had the heavy implication/pre-reveal sort of thing that Lan Sizhui is Wen Yuan, which I am very happy about and eager to see more of (best boi twice over it seems, haha).
There was also momentum on the main story - found Nie Mingjue’s body and a heavily implied murderer. Even if he isn’t the guy in the mask, at this point I’m not sure how Meng Yao could not be involved, particularly with how the show has been building him up.
Also like. Where is Wen Ning? He can’t be inside with the disciples, right? ...was Jin Ling there when he got identified on Danfan mountain?? Does he know who that is?????
- episode 40 -
A couple hours later: I have time to watch more and lingering hype from the Lan Sizhui thing, I’m going to keep going
Pfft - ‘lets not attract attention’ ‘shoot he’s right there’
The staring as he asks for liquor, haha
Hahaha it just keeps going
He just stuck the chicken back in his friends mouth
Was that Wen Ning outside?
Yes, okay, it was him. Coming in spider-man style
I love this episode
Ouch haha
Wait is LWJ planning to drink liquor again
Oh thank goodness I don’t know if I could handle that again so soon
Why the head? Wouldn’t it be the most damning to have?
Are we skipping right to the next month??
Wait I just realized - who are these other guys in red? They’re dressed differently than the Wens, but...???
Did Jiang Cheng come just before them? He doesn’t seem to have a retinue. Or was he waiting for them??
Jin Ling and his boatload of uncles
Wait that’s actually like more accurate than I thought they’re all more or less uncles. Wow.
Oh right Mo Xanyu got thrown out of here
Okay, so Meng Yao’s wife is going to be relevant
Is Nie Huaisang drunk?
Doesn’t seem to be handling things well
Awwww Jin Ling’s trying to defend him
Oh boy that’s, ah. Yeah that’s gonna land him in hot water with everyone.
Oh, teaching him a new move?
Hahaha he’s kind of an awful influence
Haven’t seen the paper person in a while. What’re they doing now?
Even with the paper person he’s messing with LWJ’s ribbon.
There’s synth music I can’t
Is she scared of Meng Yao?
What’s in the letter? Really doesn’t seem to be good.
So it is definitely the letter and not, like, food poisoning, so: really bad.
So it implied he got their son killed?
They’re saying a ‘she’ sent the letter, but WWX said ‘he’. Unless there’s multiple then I guess there’s a broad range of suspects.
He’s. Switching emotions being projected really fast and it’s kind of terrifying.
What’d he just do to her
That was a doorway?
Are those chains
They’ve been building him up for a while but I genuinely am shocked that he’s gotten so bad. Holy crud.
I assume that’s the head?
Yyep
He can do Empathy with just the guy’s head??
End notes:
So this episode started out really fun. And then it went a little internal politic-y and then it went to whatever brand of spy-slash-horror drama this is.
I really don’t know how to feel about this one. In other news: major plot progression, I guess?
I don’t know. When he was first introduced (and for a while afterwards) I kind of liked Meng Yao, so I don’t really have a solid emotion towards whatever’s happening right now. Definitely don’t like him as he is now, though, and he has concretely gone full-blown evil antagonist.
He’s also probably the ‘actor friend’ of Xue Yang, considering... the conversation between him and his wife (Qing Su?). I didn’t comment much during that, admittedly, albeit mostly because my brain was blanking out with internal sirens going the entire time.

i can’t breathe (sneak peek)
NOW. I wasn’t gonna post this after this week’s episode happened because ouch my soul. And I don’t have time to update multiple WIPs. So after this I’ll be posting the entirety of this fic on AO3 when it’s finished, which won’t be for a couple weeks unfortunately but I swear it’s coming, it’s just become a bit more of a project than I had originally thought
HOWEVER
Y’all are yelling at me to post something so fine here’s the opening scene, have fun crying
A couple things: this goes AU after 3x17, Magnus has the loft because I wasn’t creative enough to figure out another solution and he had to have his own place for the purposes of this fic, and this takes place about a month after the almost proposal because the Shadowhunters timeline is GARBAGE and I refuse to accept it
If you REALLY like pain, I was listening to lovely feat. Khalid by Billie Eilish and i can’t breathe by Bea Miller on repeat while I was writing this (Bea Miller’s song is the inspo for the title and various thematic elements of this angst monster) (also wow way to drive a knife in my heart with that scene and that song Shadowhunters fuck u very much)
Feel free to scream or ask questions in my ask
TW for depressive thoughts and all the Magnus feels
*
*
*
Waking up becomes the worst part of his day.
Sleep is bliss—there is no reality in dreams. He’s filled to the brim with power, the familiar hum of magic coursing through his body, as steady as Alec’s heartbeat. It comes out of him in waves, blue fire wrapping delicately around the loft and out to the balcony and caressing his skin like a lover’s lips. He’s drunk and high and having an orgasm all at once and he’s never felt this alive.
For a moment, when he wakes up, golden light casting across the bed from the bay window and dancing tenderly on his skin, nothing is different. Nothing is missing.
But then, the knowledge of his new reality comes crashing down on him like a tsunami, and Magnus is drowning in grief, as if that part of him—the only part he really knows—died.
Every day is a new kind of hell—he might as well have stayed in Edom.
Magnus breaks out of his traitorous thoughts when he feels something stirring next to him: Alec, grunting softly as he rolls over. His long lashes flutter, opening to reveal big pale eyes that are clouded over with sleep.
He yawns until his jaw cracks and mutters, “Hey.”
Magnus gives him a small smile, barely a quirk of his lips.
“Good morning.”
Alec shuffles closer into Magnus’ side, clearly not ready to get out of the comfortable cocoon of blankets he’s sequestered himself in.
Normally, Magnus adores Alec in the morning; he’s the softest Magnus ever sees him, wanting nothing but warmth and sweetness. He reminds him fondly of a cat lying in a sun patch on the floor, sprawling his limbs out over the bed or on top of Magnus. He normally could spend hours tracing the runes on his pale skin, slowly waking Alec up with feather light kisses and barely there fingertips.
That was before, though. That was Magnus Bane, High Warlock of Brooklyn.
He has no idea who Magnus Bane the mundane is, and Alec’s sleepy embrace only reminds him, with a pang, of what he no longer has.
Magnus extracts himself from the bed with some difficulty, Alec’s arms tightening around him like a boa constrictor. Alec groans in protest, lifting his head to drowsily glare at Magnus.
“Where are you going?” he pouts.
“Coffee,” Magnus says, because he knows it’s an answer Alec will wholeheartedly accept. There’s no limit to Alec’s caffeine addiction.
“Oh, okay,” Alec murmurs, predictably, sinking back down into the bed.
A part of Magnus, growing louder by the second, demands that he crawl back into bed and wrap himself up in his all too enticing boyfriend, thinking of nothing but them, existing in this space like nothing is wrong and there’s no gnawing pit in his stomach.
He can’t, though. He’s already put Alec through so much—Magnus doesn’t understand why he stays, why he lets Magnus do things like ruin romantic dinners or pick fights and cry, why he’s so patient and good. Far better than Magnus can ever be, that’s for sure. He doesn’t deserve it, and Alec especially doesn’t deserve what Magnus is giving him in return.
Which is, well, nothing. Nothing at all.
“I’ll be right back,” Magnus says, feeling suddenly overwhelmed and hoping Alec is still too tired to detect the note of panic in his voice.
He leaves the stifling bedroom and pads down the hall, his fingers automatically coming together in a phantom snap for coffee to begin brewing. The air rushes out of him when he remembers. Everything’s manual now.
As Magnus preps the coffee, he recalls, his face wrinkled in slight disgust, soon after he’d lost his magic for good. He’d almost had a breakdown over the damn machine, when he’d gone to make some for himself and Alec one morning and realized he had no idea how to actually make coffee.
Alec had wandered into the kitchen, wondering what was taking Magnus so long, and had found him sitting on the floor, head hanging low with the machine in pieces around him.
Of course—because Alec really must be one of those white knights in fairy tales—he’d hauled Magnus to his feet and helped him pick out a new coffee maker, a simple gold without any bells or whistles. When they got back, Alec sat Magnus down at the kitchen island and--with a teacher’s patience and a protective desire that was all Alec--walked him through how to make a perfect pot of coffee by hand.
Magnus pours the coffee into two mugs now, his fingers tingling when colliding with the warm ceramic. When he closes his eyes, he can almost pretend it’s the feeling of magic sparking at his fingertips.
Almost.
He goes back into the bedroom and finds Alec out of bed, pulling on a shirt. His phone lies on the edge of the bed, and his hair clings to his forehead, damp from the shower. Magnus wonders just how long he was in the kitchen for.
Alec makes no comment on it. He takes the mug Magnus offers him gratefully and sips, grinning at him.
“Perfect,” he says, eyes incredibly soft as he gazes at Magnus.
Magnus fidgets, a feeling of guilt that’s been ever-present lately when he looks at Alec washing over him.
“I have to go,” Alec says, apologetic, after a few moments of silence. “I’m sorry, Jace called, it’s important.”
Magnus nods his head too fast.
“Of course,” he says, more than a little relieved that Alec is leaving. He loves Alec, loves his grounding presence, but if he has to endure another day of pitying glances he might scream.
“You gonna be okay?” Alec asks, eyes probing as he slips on his leather jacket.
“Who, moi?” Magnus rolls his eyes, playing up nonchalance for Alec’s benefit. “I’ll be just fine. I’ve got some house stuff I’ve been meaning to take care of anyway. Dusting, scrubbing, Marie Kondo-ing. You know.”
Alec pauses in lacing up his boots, looking at Magnus in suspicion. Clearly, Magnus isn’t doing as good a job of hiding his emotions as he thinks he is.
Alec smashed through all of Magnus’ walls without even trying, by simply existing, and Magnus has to fight to rebuild in the wake of his new identity. He hates it, and he’s more than positive Alec isn’t pleased with it either, if the disastrous dinner on the balcony almost a month ago now is anything to go by. But he has to protect himself and without his magic, he doesn’t have very many ways left to do that. He’s safe behind the walls; nothing can hurt him here.
“You sure? I can try and leave work early, make Jace or Izzy take some paperwork for me—”
Magnus cuts him off, painting a wide smile on his face with as much false joy as he can muster.
“No!” he says, too earnest. “I’m fine, darling, honestly. You’ve got Shadowhunters to order around, you don’t need to worry about me.”
Alec slides his phone into his pocket and steps forward, closing the distance between them and cupping Magnus’ cheek with his palm. His eyes run over Magnus’ features, looking for… something.
“I always worry about you,” he murmurs.
Magnus doesn’t know what to say. If Magnus is fighting to rebuild his walls, Alec’s are crumbling down like skyscrapers in an earthquake. He’d worked so hard to get Alec to expose himself, and now that they’re here, Alec bearing everything to him in that urgently sweet way of his, all Magnus wants to do is hide.
He settles for a small smile, leaning into Alec’s hand and kissing his palm.
Alec’s phone buzzes violently in his pocket, and he winces.
“Gotta go,” he says, kissing Magnus’ forehead and disappearing out of the bedroom.
Magnus hears Alec’s tender call of ‘see you tonight, love you!’ as he leaves, the door falling shut behind him.
The loft is quiet, too quiet now, and Magnus stares off into the distance, embracing the hollowness of his chest as another empty, useless day stretches out before him, like the gray ocean fading into the horizon.

8x07: A Little Slice of Kevin
You’re not misreading this. We’re recapping a Buckleming episode by choice! Is it a hot mess? Yep. But does it also have literal pining!Dean, gothic romance stormy night window visions, boner scenes, roadside confessions, and badass Cas? Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.
Then:
Tumblr media
Where’s the angel? Also, Mrs. Tran is a bit of a badass.
Now:
At a playground (!), a small boy makes a mess with paints so his teacher takes him to the bathroom to clean up. Her eyes flash black for a moment before the two disappear inside (literally). A windstorm suddenly blasts its way through the park revealing the now empty bathroom.
Meanwhile, Dean is cruising around in Baby in a pine forest (while listening to The Animals’ “We Gotta Get Out of This Place”. LOVE.) He sees a dirty, bedraggled Cas walking on the side of the road and slams on the breaks. Backtracking, he sees nothing.
Tumblr media
Well, nothing but a literal sign indicating there’s multiple pining situations happening. Dean then gets. out. of. the. car. to stare forlornly at his surroundings.
Later, at the cabin, Sam finds a case --the missing boy/tornado from the cold open. He notices similar happenings all over the world. They guess demons but have no clue how any of it connects.
Crowley is peak evil demon while he tortures poor Samandriel out of names. It also seems that Sam and Dean were right about the missing people. Crowley has collected them all in his dystopian sci-fi factory.
Tumblr media
Kevin and Mrs. Tran are on the run, and she has 1000% embraced the mother of a prophet gig. She’s making holy water traps, hex bags, salt barriers, and has even hired a witch to make demon bombs. (Sidenote: This scene is the only time I hear Amy Wong on this show.) They check in with Delta Mendota via Skype. *insert gross Buckleming innuendos* She’s ready to help and is in no way, shape, or form going to backstab these two.
The brothers interview the teacher of the little boy who disappeared.
Tumblr media
Later that night, while Sam sleeps and Dean googles “how to save an angel from Purgatory”, lightning flashes and Cas suddenly appears outside the window. He’s gone just as soon as he appears. Dean rushes to the window and stares at the rain in disbelief.
Sam awakens and wonders what Dean is doing. Dean confesses to seeing Cas outside, and earlier on the side of the road.
Tumblr media
Dean then starts to replay his time with Cas in purgatory, wondering why Cas didn’t try harder (while beating himself up for the same reason.) Before finding the portal, Cas pulls Dean aside and thanks him, “for everything.”

(Like, ouch. It’s little moments like this that make me really feel the profound effect Dean has had on Cas. This human, of all humans over the course of Earth’s existence, made such a lasting change in this angel.) Dean “Save the Hallmark” Winchester refuses to even humor the idea of Cas not making it through the portal.
Crowley is having second thoughts about abducting all these people, who believe they were abducted by aliens.
Tumblr media
He tries getting them to read the demon tablet, but they are hopeless.
Meanwhile, Delta arrives at the Tran hideout with the demon bomb materials. *insert more gross Buckleming innuendos*
The next morning, Sam is discovering more missing people, while Dean hangs out in that liminal world between worlds where Cas and him meet so often, the bathroom (Lol, I typed that thinking it was going to be a poetic line, but that just sounds dirty.)
Tumblr media
“Hello, Dean.”
Cas appears, for real this time. I’m not sure Dean’s eyes could pop out any further from his head.
Cut to Sam being all chatty and questioning about Cas’s return from Purgatory, while Dean continues to stand and stare in utter disbelief. Cas has been trying to reach out but hasn’t been at full power (Ahem, at this moment I would like to point out that the brothers still have the Enochian warding on their ribs and shouldn’t be detectable by angels. How strange that Cas can still find Dean though.) Cas has no explanation as to how he got out. Dean flashes back to their final moments in purgatory.
I love this exchange:
Benny: Aren't you guys all about faith? Castiel: Not particularly
Benny’s soul gets sucked into Dean’s arm via a spell, and Dean and Cas head for the portal. They find the portal at last, led to it by the delicate dance of a leaf. I love this! It's so pretty.
Tumblr media
Leviathan arrive.
In the present time, Dean and Sam discuss the improbability of Cas being back with them, while Cas cleans up in the bathroom.
A story told in two gifs:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, what the actual fuck, show?
Meanwhile Linda Tran continues to be my favorite, chewing out the witch Delta for trying to change their deal. Suddenly Kevin comes running in. The salt line's been brushed away from the bathroom windowsill! Enter Crowley and a demon lackey, who were let in by Delta. Crowley zaps away with Kevin and orders the other demon to kill Linda. But Linda is ready!
Tumblr media
Sam and Dean are busy tracking more demon omens. Sam lists out the names of the missing people and Castiel recites along and then completes it (as he watches TV). Damn it, Cas, stop being adorable. STAHP.
Tumblr media
Turns out, those are names of the prophets and they're written on the subway wall in Castiel's mind. Just like slayers, there's only one active prophet and the rest are potential prophets, who get activated when a prophet dies. There's a brief mention here of Chuck. The idea is set forth that Chuck died, thereby activating Kevin. (Chuck you got some 'splaining to do!) Their prophet talk is interrupted by a call from Linda Tran, asking for help.
In Crowley's latest dank industrial hideout, he swans around the table of prophets and bullies Kevin. If the other potential prophets can't do anything to interpret the tablet, they can at least die for it. Crowley brutally kills one of the women when Kevin refuses to translate the tablet, dousing Kevin with blood.
Elsewhere, Dean, Sam, and Castiel wait on a lonely highway for Linda to show up. With nothing more exciting to do, Dean flashes back to Purgatory again. They're fighting the leviathans and it's sharp and brutal and hard. Just barely, they manage to defeat them. Dean steps into the portal and reaches for Cas. They grasp hands, Dean trying to pull Castiel along with him, but the pull of the portal is too strong. Castiel slips from Dean's grasp as Dean zaps away from Purgatory. Dean jolts back to the present and asks Cas to step out of the car to talk. Dean shouts at Cas that he did all he could to get him out. He didn't leave Cas. HE DIDN'T, DAMN IT! Cas squints at him. “So you think this was...your fault?” (Me: Oh my lord these two are bad at words.)
Tumblr media
Their confrontation is interrupted by the arrival of Linda who shows them the demon she has in her trunk. It's demon interrogation time!
Tumblr media
Speaking of interrogation, Kevin's tied to a chair in Crowley's weird industrial dungeon. With no answers, Crowley chops off one of Kevin's fingers. After screaming in agony, Kevin agrees to read the tablet. He skims through the table of contents for things such as the “collective tapestry of the soul” and “demonic transport to the regions of hell.” (I love this.)
The Winchester-mobile and Linda drive off to Crowley's mysterious industrial pit. Sam cuffs Linda to the car (SAM) and Dean kills the demon in the trunk. Then they head for the compound.
Tumblr media
While Crowley casually blows a pinwheel, Kevin discovers a section about sealing the gates of Hell. NOW Crowley is interested.
Sam, Dean, and Cas infiltrate the plant. Sam heads inside and encounters a ton of demons. He pulls out a jar and chucks it at the ground. It explodes and blasts away the demons. There goes their one demon bomb. Meanwhile, Dean and Cas get waylaid by a solitary demon, who knocks the crap out of Dean with a telekinetic blow. Castiel smites the demon, but staggers immediately afterward. His power is super low.
They find a locked door – behind which is Crowley - and while Dean tries to pick the lock, Cas flaps his way into the room alone. Crowley greets him with, “Which Castiel is it this time? I'm never sure. Madman or megalomanic?” They both pull out angel blades and when Crowley scoffs and questions Castiel's power, Cas goes full on angel. His eyes glow blue and he unfurls his wings. “You're bluffing,” Crowley shouts.
Tumblr media
“You wanna take that chance?” Castiel asks (and I pause to fan myself). The tablet breaks in two, and Crowley grabs half of it and zaps away.
The next day, Sam bids farewell to Mrs. Tran and Kevin. He's sending them off to Garth. (Yessss I want to watch that show.)
While Sam and the Trans are off having semi-adult conversations, Dean flips out at Castiel, berating him for heading in alone. “Look, I don't need to feel like hell for failing you, okay? For failing you like I've failed every other godforsaken thing that I care about! I don't need it!” OUCH. There are no underlying issues here AT ALL.
Castiel tells him that it wasn't Dean's fault that Cas got left behind. Cas intended to stay behind in Purgatory to do penance. He tells Dean to reexamine the memory. Instead of Cas desperately trying to hang on, Cas actually pushed Dean away and told him to leave. He didn't want to be saved. “I didn't deserve to be out. And I saw that clearly when I was there. I planned to stay all along. I just didn't know how to tell you. You can't save everyone, my friend. Though you try.” GUH CAS
Tumblr media
Sam interrupts because, of course. And then suddenly the world disappears and Cas finds himself in a white room. “Hello, Castiel,” a woman in a neat gray suit says. She tells him that he's in Heaven and asks him about Sam and Dean. Castiel immediately spills all the beans EVERYWHERE like a firehose of bean soup.
“Why am I telling you any of this?” he grits out. The woman in the suit is the angel Naomi and she orders Castiel to report on the Winchesters' comings and goings. The angels saved him from Purgatory and reprogrammed him for this one purpose. Castiel refuses, but is powerless to resist her as she zaps him back to the conversation with Sam and Dean. He looks confused, but doesn't remember a thing. Not long afterwards Cas walks off, looking unsettled, leaving a very perturbed Dean behind.

Just Another Tuesday
Summary: The reader falls asleep watching her favorite show and wakes up to a completely different world, just in time to help the Winchesters save Sheriff Mills.
Pairing: Sam x Reader Other Characters: Dean Winchester, Jody Mills, unnamed demons
Word Count: 4158 (The challenge said “try” to keep it around 3000… and I tried… and I failed)
Warnings: Canon typical violence, mentions of anxiety and panic, major character/minor injury
A/N: This is my almost late and (definitely too long) submission for @impala-dreamer’s Titles are Hard Challenge. This was not the fic I set out to write but the original idea I had turned out to work better as a Sabriel fic and this challenge was Sam or Dean x reader only so… there’s going to be another fic with a similar title but a very different story sometime in the future.
This hasn’t been beta’d or even really proofread. I’m probably gonna do that later and update any glaring typos I see but I wanted to get this posted now because the challenge deadline is today and the masterlist has already gone out… oops! If you’re adverse to typos (which I totally understand, I can be like that sometimes), maybe come back in a day or two to read this one. I’ll remove this part of the A/N when it’s been proofread.
Your name: submit What is this? // <![CDATA[ function replaceAll(find, replace, str) { return str.replace(new RegExp(find, 'g'), replace); } function myHandler() { var input = document.getElementById("inputTxt").value; document.body.innerHTML = replaceAll('Y/N', document.getElementById("inputTxt").value, document.body.innerHTML); } // ]]>
Just Another Tuesday -
“Tuesdays are the worst,” you muttered as you finally pushed through the door at the end of the day. It had been an especially greuling Tuesday, at that, and you couldn’t wait to unwind in front of the television. You threw your things on the table, promising yourself you’d put them away later, grabbed a snack and a drink, and plopped down on the couch. You queued up your DVR to the newest episode of ‘Supernatural’ and pressed play, ready to escape into the world of Sam and Dean Winchester and whatever monster of the week they found themselves up against this time. You had missed the episode when it had aired on Thursday but, somehow, you had managed to avoid spoilers so far, even on Tumblr, but you knew your luck was wearing thin and, besides, you wanted to be caught up in time for the new episode that was scheduled to air in a few days.
As you watched the episode, you found yourself drawn into the story. A powerful coven of witches had been kidnapping local women for a ritual and the Winchesters were questioning a local who happened to be named Y/N and even looked a little bit like you. Dean had teased Sam about how she had been looking at him and his lack of a sex life but the next morning they learned from the sheriff that Y/N had gone missing, too. The Winchesters saved the day and Y/N and Sam shared a meaningful look but, ultimately, he went back to the motel with his brother.
Your eyelids were heavy and fighting to close by the time the episode ended and you were surprised that you had actually made it through to the end. Walking to your bed felt like too much effort, especially after the day you had had, so you clicked off the television and pulled a blanket down from the back of your couch and snuggled in for the night.
When you woke the room was darker than you expected and you were warmer and more comfortable than you had any right to be considering you had been sleeping on the couch. You shifted a little, intending to get up and make your way to your bedroom for the rest of the night, but you stopped, frozen in your tracks as you realized there was a strong arm wrapped around your waist. The arm pulled you back into a very solid, warm chest and a face nuzzled into your neck as lips pressed kisses into your skin, causing you to tense even more.
“You regret last night that much?” A familiar voice asked, sounding hurt even as the voice’s owner continued to hold you close.
You felt your body relax at the sound of the voice, despite the fact that you still didn’t know where you were and you couldn’t quite place who the voice belonged to. Your brain was on high alert but your body seemed to be sure that you knew this man and that you would trust him with your life. Your mind was whirring and it finally clicked where you had heard that voice before.
But… it couldn’t be. He was a fictional character.
You turned to face the person with whom you were sharing a bed. Long, shaggy, brown hair framed a familiar face. Stubble covered his jaw and sleepy but still bright hazel eyes met your gaze. “Sam… What am I doing here?”
Sam leaned in and pressed his lips to yours. “Good morning to you too, Y/N,” he responded with a laugh before trailing his lips across your jaw.
You felt yourself getting lost in the moment until a pounding on the door dragged you back to reality - or whatever reality this was - and you scrambled out of the bed, wrapping a sheet around yourself.
Sam smiled fondly at you as he pulled on his underwear and jeans before answering the door, standing in the doorway and shielding you from whoever was outside. He was giving you time to gather your clothes, you realized, and you scooped them off of the floor and darted into the bathroom.
As you got dressed, you heard Sam talking to a few other people, all of whom had familiar voices. “What the hell is going on?” you muttered to yourself. Once you were fully clothed, you meandered back into the main room to find that Dean and Castiel had joined Sam. You pinched yourself, realizing that you must be dreaming, but pain shot through your arm making you whisper “ouch.” Suddenly, three sets of eyes were on you.
Dean looked back to Sam, an impressed look on his face. “Sammy! I didn’t think you had it in you!” he joked, giving his brother a pat on the shoulder.
Castiel, however, continued to look at you, his penetrating gaze seeming to stare into your very soul. The angel’s head cocked to the side like you had seen so many times on television. His eyes were even bluer in person, you thought before banishing the idea from your mind. This wasn’t real, there was no ‘in person’ happening. This was a dream or a hallucination or something…
“I can assure you that this is very much real,” Castiel said, answering your thoughts. He paused for a minute before adding, “You don’t belong here.”
The angel’s brusque words weren’t intended to be rude, you knew the show and his character well enough to understand that, but Sam hissed an admonishing “Cas!” toward him, drawing the blue eyes away from you as Castiel looked at Sam in confusion.
“No, Sam,” you interjected, drawing all of the eyes back to you, “I think… I think Cas is right.”
Castiel’s head tilted again and Sam’s eyes widened almost imperceptibly but Dean’s reaction to your words was more guttural. The hunter crowded into your space, forcing you to walk backwards until you were pressed against a wall and he towered over you. “Who, or should I say what, the hell are you? How do you know who he is?”
You were terrified. You knew Dean would be reaching for the gun he kept in the waistband of his jeans or maybe for a knife but you didn’t have any answers. None that would placate an angry Winchester, anyway. You tried to shrink back into the wall, wishing that you could wake up from what was quickly becoming a nightmare as you saw the demon knife in Dean’s hand.
“Dean, stop. She’s human.”
Castiel’s words made Dean take a step back but his face was still hard. “Start talking,” he commanded.
You tried but no words would come. You could feel the tears beginning to well in your eyes and as you struggled to blink them back, you finally managed to blurt out, “This isn’t real. None of this is real. You’re… you’re not REAL!”
Your shout made Dean take another few steps back and you allowed yourself to slide down the wall. Sitting on the floor, you drew your knees up against your chest and tried to manage your breathing. You heard the door open and close again, not sure if someone was coming into the room or leaving it, but you didn’t care. You stared at your knees, trying to make sense of what was going on around you.
Finally, a large hand on your shoulder pulled you out of your thoughts. There was comfort in the touch and you looked up to see Sam crouching in front of you. “Talk to me,” he asked, his eyes worried, “what’s going on in your head?”
He gave you what could only be described as puppy dog eyes and you allowed him to help you to your feet and sit beside you on the foot of one of the beds. Cas was still there, standing near the table in the room, but Dean was nowhere to be found.
“Where’s your brother?” you asked weakly.
Sam smiled at you. He was clearly worried but staying calm to help you keep calm, too. “He’s picking up breakfast,” he told you. You had seen every episode of Supernatural multiple times, so you knew Sam’s tells and you were sure there was more to Dean’s disappearance than that but you decided not to push it. “What did you mean when you said we weren’t real?”
You took a deep breath and stared at the floor as you answered, not sure how Sam would react. He’d probably think you were insane, hell, you were starting to question your sanity yourself. “You… Dean… Cas… you’re not real. None of you. You’re fictional characters on a tv show.” As you spoke, you realized just how crazy this all sounded but you couldn’t manage to stop talking now that you had started. “I fell asleep on my couch. This is either a weird dream or one of my friends pulled so many strings and called in about a million favors to pull this off. Is this a practical joke?” You looked at Sam. “Please, please, please tell me if it is. You can drop the act and I promise I won’t turn into a crazy fangirl. As much as I love you two, I’m too drained to really freak out about being with Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins… and Jensen is right outside, yeah?” Your voice was small and quiet as you spoke but Sam, or Jared, or Sam, or… having him smile next to you was helping.
The man - or angel, you really had no idea at this point - at the door stepped forward and touched two fingers to your temple. Warmth flooded through your body and you felt yourself relaxing and calming down some, only for your anxiety to spike again when you realized what had just happened. “I believe you’re from an alternate universe, Y/N” Cas told you. “A world similar to ours but with a few key differences. What’s the last thing you remember before you arrived here?”
You thought back to the night before. “I had a rough day. Tuesdays are usually pretty bad but this one was especially terrible and when I got home I fell asleep on the couch while watching Supern… watching my favorite show.”
You heard Sam’s breath hitch a little as you spoke. “You were about to say Supernatural, weren’t you?” he asked. “That’s why those names - Jared, Jensen, Misha - sounded familiar.”
You caught onto his train of thought almost immediately. “The French Mistake,” you whispered. “Except, that was just an episode of the show. It didn’t really happen; Misha’s not dead.”
Sam grabbed your hand and gave it a squeeze. “It happened for Dean and I, so I guess your world is similar to that one but not exactly the same.”
You nodded, following Sam’s train of thought. “How are you so calm about all of this?” you asked before you could stop the thought from spilling out of your lips.
Sam laughed and you wished you could bathe in the sound, almost forgetting your fear and confusion as you watched him. “I’m sorry,” he apologized, “it’s not funny and I shouldn’t be laughing. It’s just, that’s not the question I expected you to ask.” He looked at you like he was trying to figure you out before he continued. “I’ve traveled in time, met gods and God, and I’ve been to a couple of alternate worlds and timelines myself. Your situation definitely isn’t normal but it’s not as weird as you might think.”
“Well, thank Chuck I woke up next to the rational brother,” you managed to joke.
Sam laughed again and even Cas chuckled at your words. “We’ll figure out how to get you home, Y/N.” His thumb brushed over your fingers as he held your hand.
You leaned into him and kissed him on the cheek. “Thank you,” you replied.
Dean came back, then, taking in your and Sam’s joined hands as he entered the room. He didn’t mention it, opting to set a brown paper bag on the table and rummage through it, tossing some food towards Sam and then something to you, too.
You were able to snag what felt like a breakfast sandwich out of the air with one hand and Dean looked somewhat impressed as you unwrapped the foil that surrounded it. “I wasn’t sure what you would want to eat so I went with bacon and eggs. Figured I couldn’t go wrong with a standard like that unless you’re a vegetarian or something.”
You thanked Dean and took a bite of the sandwich, wondering why he was suddenly being so kind to you but deciding not to look a gift horse in the mouth. Over breakfast, you, Sam, and Cas filled him in on what the three of you had figured out. Dean shuddered when he was reminded of the time he spent as an actor, but agreed that your world sounded similar to that one.
“I’ll pack the car and we can head back to the bunker to figure this out,” Dean offered as he finished his own bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. He was still eyeing you suspiciously but that could be because Sam was still holding your hand as much as it was because of your nearly unbelievable story and arrival and you tried your best to let it go as he left the room.
Less than a minute later, Dean was back. “We’ve got a problem,” he announced.
Everyone looked up at him. He was standing alone in the doorway and you knew instantly what was wrong. “Jody needs help.”
Now everyone looked at you, curious as to how you knew that. Sam and Cas both looked concerned but Dean was looking suspicious and angry again. “I…” you started, your voice trailing off. You looked at Sam, finding strength in your favorite character who was somehow now sitting beside you. “It’s the episode preview. Last night, just before I fell asleep, it was the last thing I saw. Dean came into the motel room and told Sam and Cas that Jody called asking for help.”
Sam gave your hand a squeeze and you both turned to look at Castiel as the angel spoke.
“Did this preview give you any more information?” He asked.
All eyes were on you again and you wracked your brain to remember more of the 20 seconds you had been shown. “They never give much information and sometimes they move so fast through pictures and clips that you can’t actually absorb anything… Most of this one was you two in the Impala. They briefly showed someone following Sheriff Mills but I couldn’t see enough to recognize him.” Your eyes dropped to your lap. “I’m sorry.”
“Hey,” Sam said, his hand coming up to your chin and tilting your face towards him, “you’ve already given us more to go on than we usually have.” He turned to Dean. “We’ll get her back home and then head out to Sioux Falls.”
“Jody sounded urgent,” Dean replied at the same time as you responded “I don’t know if there’s time for that.”
Dean looked at you with surprise but nodded in agreement.
“I’d like to help, if I can,” you offered. “Maybe something will stand out, a location or something from the preview.” Your eyes darted between Sam and Dean as they shared a silent conversation. You knew that they were used to people not understanding them but as a fan of the show, you could tell exactly what they were trying to communicate.
“Sam, you don’t want me to come because you’re worried about my safety and you still think of me as the Y/N you saved from the witches. Dean, you don’t want me to come because you don’t trust me. But you both can see the value I’d bring to this with what I know and could potentially remember or piece together.” You stared at both brothers, daring them to challenge your observations. You didn’t know where this confidence was coming from but you were going to ride it as long as you could. “Look, I’m not trained in all of this like you guys were but where I come from, the fans of Supernatural can be almost scary with what we know and what we can do. I’ve never killed anything but I know the show like Becky knows the books and I swear I’m not going to kidnap you or do anything crazy like that. Hell, I’m still not positive that this isn’t all some crazy fever dream and I’m not lying in a coma somewhere in my world. Now, if you don’t mind, I’d really, really, really love to ride in that beautiful car of yours, Dean, and meet one of my maybe not so fictional heroes, Jody Mills.”
The brothers looked impressed, if a little scared, and nodded at one another. The decision made, you all walked out to where Baby was parked. There wasn’t any time to waste but you couldn’t help but circle the car, running your hand along her shiny finish. You had always hoped to see one of the fan made replicas but you knew nothing could stand up to this moment.
Once you were all in the car and on the road, Dean began quizzing you about how to dispatch various supernatural creatures. When you even knew how to kill an okami, you could tell the older Winchester was impressed. “It can’t be easy to find a Shinto priest around here, though,” you observed and Dean actually laughed.
The Winchesters were everything and nothing like you expected them to be, all at once. Sam napped in the passenger seat while Dean drove and, once he woke up, the magical Winchester WiFi appeared. It turned out that Sam kept a mobile hotspot in the Impala’s glove compartment and the wifi wasn’t all that extraordinary, afterall. As the sky grew darker, Sam managed to cajole Dean into letting him drive for a few hours, something that you didn’t usually get to see but made sense - with all the driving the two of them do, Sam has to do some of it and of course it wouldn’t make it to television if he usually took the night shifts. You had napped on and off throughout the afternoon so you kept Sam company while he drove, using the opportunity to get to know the real Sam Winchester.
When the car pulled into Sioux Falls you were almost sad. This had already been more exciting and fulfilling than any day at home and all you had done was ride in a car. You looked out the window and something caught your eye, an old hardware store with the windows covered in paper and a for rent sign out front.
“Stop! Jody’s in there!” you gasped, pointing at the store.
Sam turned around in the passenger seat. “Are you sure? She texted me not even an hour ago to meet her at the station.”
“I just… that building was in the preview, for a brief second and it looked like she was walking through abandoned store aisles when that guy was following her,” you explained.
Sam looked to Dean, who had his phone out and pressed to his ear. “Jody’s not answering her phone,” he announced as he quickly turned the car into the parking lot. The boys got out of the car and jogged around to the trunk, loading up on weapons for any possibility.
Sam loaded a gun and held it out to you. “You know how to use this?”
You nodded in response. You had never actually fired a gun but you understood the mechanics of it.
“If you need to use it, shoot three times. That’ll unload a silver bullet, a witch killing bullet, and a devil’s trap bullet into whatever’s coming at you. It’s enough to stop most things.”
You nodded again, praying that you weren’t up against a vampire, and followed the brothers into the building. The inside looked exactly as you expected it to and you stayed close to Sam while the three of you maneuvered through the dusty store. You made it all the way to the back before you heard a sound coming from the store’s back room. Sam motioned you to stay put and you watched as he pulled the door open.
Suddenly a blast threw him backwards into some of the shelves. You rushed forward, kneeling in front of him and aimed through the door. There were two creatures in the room and a person bound to a chair. The creatures started coming towards you and you raised the gun Sam had given you, firing at one and then the other, three shots each. You managed to hit your mark and both of the creatures stopped in their tracks. Dean rushed around the corner and into the room, releasing Jody from the ropes as you made sure Sam was alright.
He was awake and nothing seemed broken so, that was good at least. “It’s nice to have someone coming to my rescue for a change,” he joked. It was a weak joke but you took it as a good sign.
“Looks like we’ve got some demons on our hands,” Dean commented, pulling the demon blade seemingly from nowhere.
If there was one thing that bothered you about Supernatural, it was how the Winchesters had practically abandoned exorcisms in favor of killing the demons. But that also meant that they were killing the vessel, too, and these people didn’t ask to be possessed. “Wait!” you called out. “I shot them in the leg, the vessels won’t be dead. We should exorcise them.”
“Once these demons are back in hell, what do you think these people are going to do about getting shot?” Dean asked. “I’ve had the law on my tail more times than I can count and, sweetheart, I don’t think you’re up for that kind of crazy yet.”
Maybe Dean was right. Evading the FBI had been rough on the boys. You were about to tell Dean that when Jody spoke up.
“The alarm was tripped, I came to check it out and found these two in here bleeding,” Jody said. “They’ll give me a description of the person who shot ‘em, if they can even remember, and I’ll follow up with them a few times but nothing will ever get filed.” Her explanation put you at ease and you let out a sigh of relief.
“In that case, Exorcizamus te, omnis immundus spiritus…” you exorcised the demons from their vessels, who then fell to the ground in pain as Jody called for an ambulance.
“I like this one, she’s keeping you boys honest,” you heard Jody say to Sam and you smiled to yourself, excited to hear one of your heroes say that she liked you. “Now, you three better get out of here,” she whispered and you, Sam, and Dean booked it out of the abandoned shop.
Once you were safely in the Impala and headed back to Kansas, Dean spoke again. “Even I have to admit, you were pretty solid out there, Y/N.”
Sam smiled as he tapped away at his laptop. “So get this, there’s been a string of disappearances not to far from here, mostly centered around the lunar cycle. Sounds like it’s our kind of thing,” he told you both. “What do you think, Y/N, before you go back are you up for one more job?”
“I think I can handle one more,” you replied with a smile.
It kept going on like that. After every hunt, Sam would ask if you were “up for one more job,” and you would always agree “I think I can handle one more.” You became a formidable hunter in your own right as your relationship with both brothers and their chosen family grew. Cas, Jody, and Donna were the friends you had dreamed of having, Dean was like the brother you had always wanted and Sam was… well, Sam was definitely not like a brother.
Until finally, after months on the road together, there wasn’t a nearby case to take on and the bubble burst as Dean parked the Impala in the bunker’s garage on a Tuesday afternoon.
“I guess we should figure out how to get you home,” Sam mumbled, not looking at you.
“Or, maybe,” you ventured, “maybe I could stay?” You didn’t want to look at the younger Winchester, afraid that he might reject you, even after everything you had been through together - and done together - over the past 12 or so weeks.
Instead, warm arms surrounded you and large hands were tilting your face up. Sam practically devoured you with kisses before he pulled back with a grin on his face. “I’d like that.”
Maybe Tuesdays weren’t as bad as you had initially thought.

Brendan Taylor talks 'Supernatural' Breakdown and Briana Buckmaster Pt 2
Here is Part 2 of Brendan Taylor's interview with Lynn about returning to Supernatural as Officer Doug Stover (he also appeared on the show in 2015 in the Plush episode) and working with Briana Buckmaster, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. Part 1 of the interview is here. L: I’ve often said that I should bring the casting agency a fruit basket, because they only cast the best most committed people. Jared and Jensen said occasionally they get someone who doesn’t fit, but they don’t last long. B: Yeah, no. I think with the amount of actors they go through; it’s kind of a rite of passage to be on Supernatural. They did say there was this one person who was just like doing his own thing, doing weird awkward loud warm-ups and they just kinda pulled him aside and were like, you can’t do that on this show (laughing) L: (laughing) That’s not this show. B: I don’t think they’ve had to do that a lot, but I think you have to listen – when everything else is going so well without that behavior, why would you think that you could get away with that? L: You must not be very observant not to pick up on that. But I’m always in awe of guest actors, constantly having to go to a new setting with new people and having to be that observant, so you can pick up on the norms right away and fit yourself in. That’s intimidating! B: Yeah, and you know, my first episode, to be honest, I felt that in a way. Briana was back for her third time in Plush, and I was brand new, so they had a rapport and I really kinda didn’t and you just -- all you can do is just what you’re paid to do, and that’s what I did. Obviously, it was rewarded with getting to come back on the show, probably a multitude of factors decided that. And this time I got the opportunity because they split up a lot in the episode, Briana goes with Jared, and I go with Jensen, so we spent a good bit of time together, shooting the shit and chatting. We’re actually around the same age, which is funny. L: I saw that you tweeted ‘Jensen and I got along like a house on fire.’ B: Yeah, we were just kinda joking about the same things, we have a similar sense of humor, like a dry sense of humor, I guess? L: That sounds about right. B: We were just like sharing a lot of internet memes, showing them back and forth between takes. L: (cracks up) B: Like dad jokes. I was showing him some memes he hadn’t seen. It was pretty fun and we just kinda clicked in that way. L: Oh, Jensen and memes, that’s awesome. Okay, I’m moving to the comedy portion of the chat now – what were the worst times when you kept cracking up and couldn’t hold it together? You and Briana tweeted something about ‘the butterfly’ scene and Jared and Jensen kept making you laugh. B: (laughing) I actually watched and was like, where’s that scene? Oh, they cut it entirely. Which actually makes sense because the way it was written, it made Donna come across as maybe not so bright. They had the FBI guy talking about the patterns of this abductor, and he’s saying oh their migration patterns move up north in the winter and in summer down south, and then pause…beat… and Briana says (in a dramatic whisper) ‘Like a butterfly.’ L: (cracks up) B: And the line just made Sheriff Donna sound clueless, and we all look at her like, duh. But trying to keep a straight face through that line, oh man, it was hard. We kept doing it over and over and especially when… [At this point Brendan is laughing so hard he can’t go on, and I’m laughing so hard just picturing it…] B: Sorry, it’s bringing me right back…. And Jensen would look over almost anticipating and she’d go (dramatic whisper again) ‘like a butterfly’ and he’d just go ‘shit!’ L: (still cracking up) B: And the FBI guy, he was a nice guy, but there’s a time when he’s on camera and we’re off camera and we’re just being unprofessional… L: The poor guy B: So Briana’s tactic was just to look straight ahead and not react to them (J2) reacting, but in the meantime, it was a funny image. Jared is kinda my height and the camera is kinda over our shoulders behind looking back at the FBI guy, and Jared is on the left side of camera facing out and then it’s Briana and then it’s me. But she says the ‘like a butterfly’ and Jared just kinda slowly turns his head and I just see his eyes over top and I just couldn’t handle it… L: I don’t blame you! B: They know their power and yeah, their mastery of screwing around. L: Oh yes they are very good at it B: Jensen is also really funny, they’re both just really funny. Briana’s tweet about this scene: FUN FACT: we couldn't stop laughing at a line they inevitably CUT OUT of this scene. "Like a butterfly" i would say. And Jared and Jensen would pretend to look at me like "duh Donna". Eventually I had to just not look at them to not laugh. "Nice tactic" Jensen said. L: They are really funny. I thought you did a good job with the lines you had that were supposed to be funny too. You deadpanned it a little with a lot of them and that made them even funnier. B: Yeah I do a lot of commercials – I don’t know if you watch tv a lot and catch them – but one thing they allow me to do is work on the comedy. Just having an understanding, there’s a moment in that intro scene when we’re looking at the car and Dean says about Donna, oh yeah she’s family. And I just kinda am smiling along and then drop like what?? Like this whole time? And we had this moment at the end of that scene where he’s big time bullshitting. I like that scene because it is so obvious, like no one would really believe that, but at the same time we kinda love that Doug just wants to believe. L: Exactly, he’s a little naïve and sweet… B: Yeah, but I added that moment when Dean turns and walks away, I have a little like (laughing) ‘Huh. All right..’ L: Oh yeah, that was good, that’s what I mean, your funny lines came out very funny because of the way they were delivered and all the little nonverbals too. B: I could have easily just kinda stayed there smiling like a goofball, and then we get from that oh Doug is just like totally clueless, but I think it’s important to understand the arc of the episode to see that he’s starting to gain a suspicion. L: Yes, I liked those hints. And I love that you were thinking about that throughout too. B: Another funny part that was all me (cracking up) was the head slap [when Marlon asks ‘what’s the matter, you vegan?’ and Doug slaps him upside the head]. I thought it was important for Doug to have that scene to show that he’s not a pushover, he does something a bit out of character that’s putting someone in line because he does care. It’s not just everyone else doing everything; he’s active in it. I mean, it could have easily been Sam or Dean who does that, but I think it’s especially funny that Doug got to do it. L: Yes, and him having taken that in, like yeah, that’s how they do it in the FBI. B: Yeah, kinda looking up to them, like I wanna be like him. Practicing the head slap, Steven (Yaffee, who plays Marlon) was fine with me just kinda knicking his hair, but it would kinda be different every time, he would look at the screen and look back, and I didn’t want to – I mean, the stunt guy is always there, even for something as simple as that – you don’t wanna hit someone in the temple or the ear. L: Ouch B: (cracking up again) And I kept – I was worried about hitting him too hard, and we had a few takes, there was one where I just like, I completely missed his head! L: lol B: And then they didn’t cut, so I just kept trying to do it again, and the guys were like, what are you doing? And everyone just couldn’t hold it after that; it was just funny that I kept trying to do an impulsive slap like twice in a row. L: I hope some of this will make the gag reel. B: I hope so, it was like partially me, Brendan, just trying to get this thing right, and it was partially just it’s funny to kinda see something comedic for no real reason. L: I wouldn’t be surprised. I wasn’t surprised when they brought you back either. Every now and then you get a guest character that resonates with the viewers. There was a bit of a gender role flip with him telling Donna she’s treating him like crap and I think we were rooting for him. B: Yeah definitely, and in the end of that first episode it was open-ended so I kinda hoped they’d have some kind of closure to that, but I’m fully aware that me and Doug are part of Donna’s story line. And it should be her going forward, and I think it was important to show that she doesn’t need a man to keep her going, and I think that was showing that. But it is nice to have someone who’s supportive and caring. L: Well, if Wayward Sisters goes… B: That would be… obviously, I would love that. I understand the hesitation, you could never see me again, and Donna will go on and kill monsters. I think it’s important that she takes her own path but of course, I would love to be back. Even in this episode and consistently multiple times in each episode, someone is in danger, and someone is about to die -- even in this one, the FBI guy is about to shoot Sam in the head and it pans over to the camera and then blam! OMG and you look over, and of course, someone is bleeding and then he falls over, and there’s Dean with the smoking gun! L: That was such an awesome moment. B: That happens like all the time on Supernatural in one form or another, and I think it would be cool if that same kind of thing happened and Doug is standing there with a gun. I think he just needs some time to process. I do say I love you Donna but I can’t do this, but I did also say – within the episode – I’ll always be there for you. Dean says, you’ll always be there for her, right? And I say you betcha. L: That’s right. He wasn’t rejecting her, just saying that he can’t do it. That’s why it’s so tragic. B: So yeah, obviously relationships are complicated, but also holding myself (Doug) accountable for what I said about being there for her. I think that’s something to think about – obviously, to come back in a way that doesn’t outshine the girls though, that somehow highlights the force against evil I guess, as a member of the team L: Yeah, that’s what Dean was saying, we could use another hand on this side from someone who knows. I felt like they deliberately left that door open, so… B: I sure hope so. I was texting Briana last night – and all the cast was messaging her saying how great they thought the episode was. L: She kicked ass. B: I think – I’m not up to speed this season, but this was one of the best ones I’ve seen recently. And she’s a big part of that obviously. L: I have a good feeling about it all. It was so nice to get to chat with you. Anything I didn’t ask you about? B: It was great chatting with you too! Oh, I posted a lot of photos from on set and I appreciate that the fans appreciate those behind the scenes things. L: Oh yes, I’ve got a lot of them, they were great – you did nearly kill the entire fandom by posting that picture of Jensen on set wearing glasses though. B: (laughing) I can’t even understand that, I didn’t know that I wielded such power with that! It was just a picture of them screwing around, it didn’t even come close to occurring to me that would be the response to that photo L: Oh yes, I could have predicted it. B: And then people were like, you broke the internet! I’ll post a few more too tonight that are pretty fun. L: Fans really appreciate the behind the scenes because most of us will never get to be there. B: I sort of gathered that and essentially nowadays you have the ability to do that with social media, and true fans like to know every single bit. L: Absolutely we do. B: Oh and I was gonna mention that I did set dec for 15 years and I worked on the episode LARP and the Real Girl, helping build that big set out in the field. I did that job for many years, day calling around so I didn’t have a permanent place on Supernatural but I did span a few weeks at a time there working on sets. That’s why I posted a picture of George Neuman [the set decorator on Supernatural since Season 1], who was so happy to see me back there. And I was on the show in Season 8 too. L: You were? B: They cut my scene. L: Oops. B: I did post a photo a while back, I’m trying to remember the episode number. I was so excited that I got on Supernatural. It was a scene with Alaina Huffman. It was me and my friend Adam Pateman, and we were sorta business guys chatting about how unfair the world is blah blah blah and we go down these stairs from a law office kinda thing and we look over and Alaina is standing there with her demon eyes and you look back at us and we both have demon eyes, and she’s recruiting her army. L: Oh cool – but gotta say, this role is a million times better! B: Oh totally, that was just a one time thing. It was cool, but I do remember gathering my family to watch, like ‘yeah I’m on Supernatural!’ and then… L: No I’m not… B: It happened a few months prior on another show where I got a part in the finale, and they cut that scene as well. It was starting to look like I was making everything up! L: Yeah sure you’re on these shows… B: My family was like we watched the episode two times… L: Like, where were you? That sucks. So do you like acting more or set dec? B: I haven’t done set dec, knock on wood, in almost three years. For me, acting is a goal. It’s actually very hard to make it as you probably know. It’s always been a passion of mine, and I couldn’t really handle it anymore being on set literally a few feet away watching people do what I wanted to be doing L: Oh god yes, that would be so painful. B: Yeah and I was taking classes on weekends, it was something I pursued in high school and then in university it was sorta on the back burner, but then I found my way back to it. And as I gained more experience with set dec and knew more people, I was able to go to more auditions and slowly they started paying off more. It was a very gradual thing, not an overnight success thing, which is a very rare thing. It does happen; it happened to my buddy Jordan who’s on Riverdale overnight. Anything on that show is huge, so it can be an overnight thing, but it’s not the norm at all. So slowly I’ve started to work and checks would show up and I also did a lot of theater and all of a sudden it started to go in the other direction. Now it feels like I can kick back a little. I think even in Jensen and Jared’s position, who are like the only actors in the industry [in Canada] who have a full time job (laughing), I think they, yes they have that, but you still have to put in work, to keep it consistent and help it grow. It’s ironic that I have way more time now as a full time actor, but you sometimes make plans and – while we were talking I saw that I got something from my agent for an audition on Monday so I won’t be taking my car in to get fixed on Monday, I guess I can’t do that now! L: Fingers crossed for you for Monday! B: My character is back on the The Magicians too in March and I’m also on The Arrangement up here. I got all three emails for those within a week of each other, so those are the kind of lucky breaks you hope you get, but you have to work for it. And fingers crossed for Wayward Sisters, this has been an awesome thing to be part of! Hopefully, Brendan will have more chances to be a part of Supernatural – and Wayward Sisters – in the future. Until then, check him out on The Magicians and The Arrangement!
