sorry to be depressing but do you think there’s any chance for awsten to improve? I was a baby in the 2000s but from what I understand certain members fob, mcr, panic etc were incredibly messy and behaved in kind of obnoxious ways throughout their 20s and even into their early 30s and acted out due to combo of fame and mental illness but as they aged, had kids etc they calmed down and are now really respectful generally……pete in particular acted pretty misogynistic when his mental health was at his worst (and he was also subjected to insane amounts of media and fan scrutiny) and he was like 25ish but now obviously has grown up and matured since then. obviously tiktok didn’t exist back then but there was a similar fame-obsessed culture back in the 2000s. I know awsten definitely doesn’t have even a fraction of the kind of success that fob had at their peak but do you think there’s a chance of awsten following a similar trajectory and growing up? or do you think he’ll act like a dick forever? lol

no this is a good question!!! disclaimer i was not around following fob/mcr in the 2000s lol i am just a very dedicated student looking back across time. that being said the comparison between pete wentz and awsten is one ive talked about before because obviously awsten idolized pete and their lyrics are comparable (in a way that makes awsten come up short lol)…… but frankly i dont think they make a great comparison in this way.

like you mention fob reached much higher levels of fame than parx ever has (or will) but i think its hard to contextualize that if you werent there. pete was literally in EVERY mainstream tabloid constantly for a period of like 5 years. his dick pics leaking and then dating/marrying ashlee simpson while fob simultaneously became hugely popular AND hugely hated as an “emo band” defined a generation of celebrity. he was quite literally an A/B-lister. people magazine payed millions for exclusive photography rights for his first child. pete was one of the most papped people in america…. he was like FAMOUS (in)famous. in a very difficult way where it truly was like fame < infamy lol

awsten frankly invents most of his “celebrity problems” himself by being too online. that sounds harsh, but like, if he just Logged Off a little he can live a completely normal unhindered life in the real world. sure some fans might stop him for pics every now and again but he wont be literally tailed and SHOUTED AT by paparazzi like pete was lol. for all he gripes about the internet being too invasive to him he has actively curated and invited that for his whole ~career~ lol

so going back to your main question….. i dont know if hell get better? i think its hard because….. tiktok and the level of instant powerful crushing online fame it brings is NEW. the level of (sorry to use this word but literally) “cancel culture” on twitter and shit is unprecedented. did yall see allie x get instantly cancelled then redeemed in 24 hours the other day? shit is out of control. i cant even imagine what that stress feels like when every fan is willing to go for your throat for clout at any moment, esp with parx fans on …other websites being famous for shit-stirring every chance they get.

he might get better, and stop down this path of neurosis and being an ass online, but its gonna take something shifting him off that path. we cant use bands like fob/mcr as a blueprint bc this is so wildly different, imo. i think deep down he hates what hes become and what hes doing isnt fun for him either……. i just dont think he feels he has a choice. hes addicted to clout and virality as a lifeline tied to his perceived career now, and when he doesnt get the amount of attenion he expects you can literally WITNESS him panic and rage and melt down about it. i understand why, given the environment hes trying to operate in. but its a rough transformation to watch. im not saying theres no hope for him, but i think its gonna take something drastic to get him off this path lol :( hes also not showing any sign of “growing up” so its not like thats something that just automatically happens to people lol

It becomes a habit for him to reach over and run his hands over your belly. It's soothing for him.

Fatherhood:

A+ Dad.

Turns out being used to not getting enough sleep is perfect for parenthood.

He feels bad he doesn't spend more time home, even if he's plenty home.

He doesn't always understand his kid, but he'll always support them.

He scares you at first. Not because he's mad but because he looks void of emotion at first.

He's not mad. Actually, he doesn't know how to feel at first.

I imagine you wouldn't be activley trying, but you weren't against the idea.

He holds you close when he realizes he's frightened you. He smiles and rubs your back.

"This is incredible. I love you so much."

Pregnancy:

He's 100% lost.

Suddenly, he knows nothing and he's trying his hardest to help you.

Really, he'll do almost anything you ask.

He'll even try your strange cravings with you. Turns out peanut butter pickle sandwhiches aren't all that bad!

Shinsou is a body worship kind of guy and when you get pregnant...omg be prepared.

He LOVES the way you grow. When your belly gets big, he can't keep his hands off you. Not that he could before, how do you think you got pregnant in the first place? Damn.

Fatherhood:

Again, he's very lost.

But he's so determined to be a good dad.

He's amazing once he gets the hang of it. Really, he's great.

He loves, loves, LOVES his baby. He comes home every day so excited to see them.

Nervous wreck.

Even if you were trying, he'd be nervous. Overjoyed, but nervous.

What if something went wrong? What if something happened to him at work? What of he couldn't be there for you?

He's excited, but so scared.

What if he's not a good enough dad?

He starts to become a little overbearing.

Pregnancy:

He worries about you constantly.

If anything, I mean ANYTHING goes wrong, he starts to doomsday prep.

He's always so quick to get you to the dr, the hospital, the midwife, whatever.

He's obsessed with your body though. The way you look all round and plump and so perfect. He's in love all over again.

He cried when he first heard the baby's heartbeat. Like, "it's just so fast and l-little."

Tries to be there for everything. Every dr appointment, every couples class, all of it.

He becomes a hermit. He doesn't wanna go anywhere or do anything. He just wants you, him, and the baby home and safe.

Fatherhood:

He cried so hard when he first held them.

So nervous but so determined.

He just wants to be a good dad so bad.

He's a bit of a push over. He spoils them rotten.

Cant stand to hear the baby cry. He rushes over even at the sound of fussing.

Gets to the crib faster than you most of the time.

He loves to sit in the rocking chair and feed the baby. Its very calming and it makes him feel like a good dad. ❤

4. Tomura Shigaraki

Initial Reaction:

Fear. Absolute utter terror.

He's petrified the moment the words, "I'm pregnant" leave your lips.

He's very quiet, his movements are slow, he looks calm, but he's shaking.

He doesn't know what to do or what to say.

He loves you, he truly does. You're the first person he truly respects and trusts and cares about. So why is he so afraid?

He doesn't know the first thing about babies, and becoming a father, the very figure he struggles with most, shakes him to his very core.

Pregnancy:

At first, he goes through the stages of grief. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, but finally, he accepts.

He hides you away when you start to show. If anything were to happen, he needs to know the two of you would be safe. He visits, often, almost everyday. But he doesn't live with you.

There's apart of him that wants this. Wants the normalcy or a family. He wants a chance to redeem himself.

To be good at heart. He takes very good care of you. He's very specific about hiding the pregnancy from others.

At this rate he's the leader of an army, a movement, he can't risk you being involved in that anymore.

He loves being able to care for you. Something in him loves being so sweet and kind just for you. You're the only one he could ever love and trust this much.

Fatherhood:

When he first saw them, something snapped in him. Something so small and precious, he helped make that? Half of that, is him?

But they're so...perfect?

Even though he has full control of his decaying quirk at this point, he's afraid to hold the baby.

So for a while he'll only hold them close to his chest, tucked into his arm. He balls his hands into fists to be sure he doesn't touch them.

He's in shock and disbelief because he can't believe the baby is so perfect. At first he's convinced something is wrong with them. But as time goes on, he's reassured, they're fine.

He's constantly thinking about them. Constantly wanting to make them happy, to ease their crying, to soothe them.

It's heartwarming to watch him read to the baby. He reads to them, every night. ❤

Vlad is just a bunch of repressed trauma, untreated mental illness, and privilege in a nice suit. He’s unhealthily coped with these issues in harmful ways for DECADES, taking the route of projecting his emotions onto other people instead of looking inwards. He thinks if he can have this, he’ll be happy. If he can be rid of that, he won’t be in pain anymore.

He doesn’t love Maddie, he loves the IDEA of Maddie. He loves what she represents to him—the youth he had and lost, the friendship and connections he missed out on, companionship, love, family.

He “loves” Maddie and resents Jack because those feelings give his life purpose and meaning. Without his obsessions, he has nothing of true, emotional value—only his wealth, influence, and complete lack of personal connection to others.

He becomes obsessed with Danny for the same reasons he’s obsessed with Maddie—because he doesn’t romantically love Maddie (he’s merely attracted to her, and interprets his obsession + attraction as “love”).

He’s obsessed with them. He wants Danny as a son and a protégé because he desperately wants someone who can understand him, and who doesn’t passively let him do what he wants. Both Danny and his mother are spunky, stubborn, and intelligent, and I think Vlad wants that type of personality in his life because those people can put him in his place and truly feel like equals to him.

Where he processes his obsession with Maddie as “romantic love,” he processes his obsession with Danny into their “nemesis” rivalry.

And I do think Vlad has completely forgotten Maddie’s actual personality. Where she IS intelligent and sensible—she can be just as dense, reckless, and hard to handle as her husband.

And I think the longer Vlad goes with his obsessions unchecked the more he digs his heels in, because if he DOESNT get Maddie, if he DOESNT get Danny, if he DOESNT get revenge on jack—then his whole life would be wasted with nothing to show for it.

It’s why I think that even a redeemed Vlad would still be petty, non-communicative, jealous, stubborn, and would try to be controlling or take matters into his own hands where he really doesn’t need to.

But he would also be FIERCELY loyal, dedicated, thoughtful, and COMPLETELY ride or die. I also imagine him as the type who, even when annoyed or frustrated, would always have an open door when someone he cares about needs it. Not to mention he’s smart, witty, and passionate.

Really, there’s REASONS Vlad is the way he is—and yes, he’s an awful person who’s done terrible things, but that doesn’t mean he’s incapable of change, or even that he’s truly evil or cruel. It’s why the bigger, badder ghost villains don’t take heed of him. It’s why he gets into prank wars with a teenager. It’s why he loves the Green Bay Packers and his cat.

He’s only human.

interesting that they focused on junhao for everybody. can understand he probably has the most different and struggle experience so probably more interesting for dramas sake lol im surprised they dont spend more time on shengen, considering his popularity.

im glad they really pointed out how each member of this team did well! they really all did a great job with each of their parts, and they each got a little part to shine, and when put together, it was a complete performance. im proud of them and happy for them!

aw.... i feel like we’ve been waiting so long to hear lin mo get complimented.... i feel like it’s been since qcyn namanana that we’ve been waiting for him to redeem himself and climb back up to the peak. ugh its been nearly a year and a half. im just so terrified of whats gonna happen next bc im way too skeptical at this point to expect this high to continue, esp with what happened after namanana last time......... but for now, im happy. relieved hes finally getting the recognition he deserves and im happy that hes happy. lol i was also half scared we were gonna get spirit of the knight-ed again with his pink hair (nightmare flashbacks to lin mo and changxi’s deletion from that perf) i dont think ill ever get over that :( i feel like as a lin mo stan, ive been trained to not keep my hopes up and to prepare for the worst bc hes the type of person who just always gets the short end of the stick, it feels like. 

aw the part when they go back to the waiting room and jin fan is waiting for them with an encouraging smile and the whole exchange of "帥的真的帥的" "哇~可以吧" "我沒想到" "那必須的" our leader did them proud :’) 

ugh the part where luo jie calls them and tells them he can’t come back........ heart breaking. i can see why lin ran and xikan would be really affected. lin ran has been luo jie’s go-to since he left and knowing how their usual friendship involves making fun of one another and jokingly complaining about each other, it hits hard when lin ran says he cried his eyes out. it hurts that they didnt get to share the stage again before he left. xikan may not have shared the stage with luo jie during ip, but hes known him since then and has been with him through both rounds here. it interesting bc i feel like the namanana perf was very light hearted on qcyn but i cant see that happening here, esp with their outfits? 

aw shiwei and chaowen taking charge to raise their spirits :’) 

lin ran’s voice fits so well with this song wow! i really like his lines! also lol i didnt know xikan would have abs but okay and tbh im always hesitant about dances with props bc it always is so easy to look messy..... like every slight difference in angle in the way you hold your arms is immediately magnified 

and like sxl’s fan is obviously broken and having performed fan dances myself i know that that’s like the most annoying thing to happen on stage, and can be really difficult to deal with, even tho it happens ALL THE TIME with those types of fans ugh :( 

i mean its super kind of them to leave luo jie’s space empty for him, but its kinda weird to have parts of the audio missing sadly :( and also chaowen’s voice did something weird in the middle there, like its sounds weirdly weak 

wait didnt yixing tell them to close the fan? but they didnt? 

xikan’s facial expressions are perfecttt, good for him! wish they gave more screen time to shiwei during shiwei’s lines lol... but also i cant help but hear lin mo’s voice during that part LOL ugh speaking of which i miss that team dynamic namanana team a on qcyn HAHAHAH hwx being a brat and fjj running around wild and lin mo giving up on them all just laughing like idiots for hours on end while bo yuan just judges them from a corner LOL i love the beginning of the wenxuan and lin mo friendship good times :’)

Emery lay on a hospital cot, the bright white of the sheets made grey from all the ash. Half his face and neck had a gruesome burn on it. On his good side, his ginger hair was charred at the ends, and on the bad side, it was burned almost completely off. His clothes were charred too, and Ayana could see more burns on his skin through the holes in the fabric. 

“Oh my god,” she whispered. Gingerly, she touched the good side of his face, running a hand over his cheek. He flinched slightly at the contact, and she recoiled, bringing her hand up to her chest. “Emery…”

“You know people stayed in that building?” He laughed, just a little, and then went into a coughing fit. A nearby nurse scolded Ayana as if she were personally trying to kill his patient. “That kid ran through and said there was going to be a fire, and those clowns were like, ‘no, I have work to do, it’s so important I meet this deadline’. Can you imagine? I was glad to have a good chance to have a break. You…” He coughed again. “You don’t give your staff enough breaks.”

“Yeah. I know.” 

He made a motion that was almost a shake of his head. “They’re clowns, but I had to go back in for them, you know? Couldn’t help myself. Went in with this other guy, and he did most of the saving but…” Any sort of joy he got from his laughter faded instantly, it was like it was never there. “He didn’t make it out. Hell, I don’t even know his name, but I remember how he looked with his clothes all on fire. He’s a hero, though. Will you find out who it was? Let me look at some pictures of people? And give out his name, I want the press… I want them to know.” 

“Of course…”

Emery opened his mouth to reply, but all that came out was some wheezing. The nurse looked over again. “He needs rest,” he said. 

Ayana pressed her lips together and tried to hold back any more tears. It was stupid, but she didn’t want Emery to see her cry. “Is he going to be okay?”

“He’ll be fine. He just needs time.” The nurse sighed, and glanced around. “A lot of people, though… They weren’t so lucky.”

11/26: alright lads, we finally made it to thanksgiving break. i really think these are going to be my redeeming moments. I’m feeling confident. let’s fucking nail this

okay to talk about EXACTLY HOW i would handle giving charon a big good boss fight and also sympathetic backstory and redemption and all that jazz

there are approximately ten million words beneath the cut, and also ten million raspberries in my shampoo, and these charon thoughts are just as sweet as that

alright so ALREADY i kinda did feel like he was sort of a friendly enemy when i first played the game?? like his Thing of being the constantly never fightable dude actually was kind of sympathetic in a way. it always just felt like he was Chilling Out and not giving much of a shit about being evil and also had nothing personal against you the player. he doesnt follow any of cyrus’s big philosophy and he’s clearly only here for the money and really phoning it in, and that kinda makes him not your enemy at all, even though he’s on the team youre fighting. Like I always found it a good establishing moment that in the Valley Windworks when they first introduce “hey this time there’s two galactic teammates here” and all, CHARON IS STANDING DIRECTLY IN EYELINE OF YOU RUINING EVERYONE’S PLANS. he’s just standing there! and of course he’ll never do anything to warn mars about you, the game just isnt programmed that way. but it fits really well with his character if you think of it as an intentional thing? just imagine this random gramps sitting there drinking tea while all his teammates actually Care About Things and Use Effort. He’s always criticizing team galactic’s plan too and like WHY IS HE DOING THAT TO YOU if not because Nintendo Wants Him To Be My Best Friend ok. Like he doesn’t fuckin trust anyone on his team so why would he spill the beans about his big secret plans he has to make money off of this villain plan and then bail before they actually do all the dumb shit with legendaries and such. Yes ok its PROBABLY just because its a videogame and they need to exposit stuff to the player that the character is probably just thinking and not saying out loud. But wouldnt it be so much better this way!!!! Also even when you finally face off against him personally in the postgame for his actual dumb money plan he’s still like ‘lol fourth wall breaking time im gonna not have a boss battle cos if you beat cyrus’s ass i aint got no chance’. Dammit nintend i still wanted to fight him but thats endearing so i cant stay mad at u! And he has several lines during it with stuff like “i like seeing children trying so hard BUT YOURE TOO LATE” and “youth like you can live in idealism but for me its all about the money”. Like man u remember that time i had a big angry rant about how his manga version was super OOC cos they didnt just choose to make him eviler but made him murder a child? like the only time anything involving children is mentioned in canon its him being mildly more polite to children!!! MILDLY FRIENDLY! LET ME HAVE THIS...

okay so YEAH the first big change would be just giving him more screentime and more fleshed out character in these early scenes. Make him a full on friendly character who is technically on the opposite side but has no beef with you and no loyalty to the greater plan of his team. So he’s just comically like “oh hi again! yeah lol today’s plan sucks huh?” and makes idle conversation while the main character villain admin of the day is actually doing important plot stuff. like have him along for everyone’s scenes not just mars at the start, dissappear for hours until the very end. And yes definately keep the thing of the game constantly lampshading that he’s a new character for the third version of the game, and everyone in the team thinks he’s useless and forgets he’s even there. it was annoying in the original game cos he actually didnt get any love from the writers themselves, but yknow you could give him an expanded role and rewrite that stuff to be more like “oh poor guy he’s the underdog”, yknow? am i the only one who felt inherantly sorry for him?? i mean he’s a tiny grandpa!!! and he looks so sad on his official art!! Oh oh and also add the additional running jokes and expanded characterization he had in his very brief anime appearance, which was honestly the only well written part of the entire team galactic arc. It fleshed out a bit of his relationship with jupiter who never really appeared alongside him in the game except to say “im not teaming up with you” at the end. Having the context that she finds him annoying cos she’s very serious and also very dedicated to cyrus so she hates this opportunistic bastard pretending to be dedicated when its an obvious lie. And also she thinks his laugh is obnoxious XD Oh also I liked how they expanded upon that one scene of Saturn being sarcastic at gramps and made it into an actual thing that him and charon most often work together and have a mutually sassy dynamic. I found it humanizing that anime saturn is very serious but can comically overreact to very minor teasing from this grandpa! I thought that was better than the games where he’s just serious or the manga where he was 100% changed to be 100% silly and kinda stole charon’s personality for reasons i will never understand.

ANYWAY! IN SUMMARY! show scenes of charon being endearing by being not really interested in the big evilness, being underdog-y by always failing at his smaller evilnesses and getting disrespected, and also maybe drop in some more interpersonal relationships between the admins to hint that charon does indeed have some friendship going on even if he’s a tsundere bitch who’d never admit it. Also maybe the other thing from the anime where they made him a cool computer guy? cos srsly it was lazy that the games just said “he’s the science” and never clarified wtf he actually does at his job. cos cyrus is already a science boss??? he kinda already did most of the big sciencey plans?? why does he need this man if its not for mechanical or legendary pokemon stuff OK HEY MAYBE COMPUTERS! also its funny to imagine him being a memey blogger but sun and moon actually made faba canonically that so i dont think you could improve on him. TAKE NOTES FROM BEAN MAN, NINTENDO

Also maybe you could hint at the rotom backstory before it actually happens? like could just show some mild implications that he is sad, cos the ‘friendly enemy’ thing would already be decent foreshadowing for him potentially having a soft spot. “Wah i am an emotionless evil money man” says local villain, while gossipping with Dawn about his coworkers and sharing lemon squares. But like I mean i don’t really want him to be LITERALLY that, i still like him being grumpy and guarded about his secret good heart. I’m just saying “friendly” as in.. sort of a disconnect between what he says his personality is and how he actually acts. The stuff he actually says is very grumpy but like.. hey he’s saying stuff to you when he doesnt need to, and nobody else on this team is casually talking to you as if youre not an enemy. Like he’s SUBCONCIOUSLY friendly and doesnt realise it? He’d never SAY “i am lonely hello please talk to me” but he’d sure as hell walk over to you and talk to you anyway. About grumpy things! Grumpily! And maybe express occasional compliments in a sort of “haha im surrounded by idiots you’re way more down to earth than all these adults who act more like children”. Cos in that fourth wall breaking moment he has, he respects that you’re a badass and decides thats why he’s not gonna have a boss fight. “You’d just kick my ass, so lol fight these grunts instead while i run away and do my evil plan” That is the kind of sympathetic charon i want!! He’s doing a douchey thing by breaking the script of how boss battles work and making everyone else fight you instead even though he knows that they’ll lose. But he’s also likeable because breaking the script of boss battles is unexpected and comedic! And he’s also accidentally being complimentary to you so its like SIMULTANEOUS JERK AND NICE AT THE SAME TIME. Thats the good stuff!! That quality grumplegramp content!!! if he got redeemed and just 100% changed his personality to lose all the sass and sneakyness then that’d be boring yo...

OKAY WHERE WAS I? Okay hey once you’ve established that, maybe now you have a basis for the sad foreshadowing!! Like you could have one scene where he’s suddenly NOT friendly, he’s not just grumpy in the funny sort of way but actually seems cold and stoic and actually does something useful to the team’s mission or whatever. Sort of a ‘whoa what’s wrong with him today’ thing and it could be subtle cos on the first playthrough you’d just think he was being a jerk cos he’s a jerk and all. but maybe it happens on a scene of team galactic doing some evil plan in eterna forest/other place that’d potentially relate to the rotom sidequest. like he’s just really fuckin depressed to be reminded of his one big failure in life. OH maybe it could actually be at the unnamed junkyard thats mentioned in his backstory but doesnt actually feature as an area in the original game? It could make sense that it’d be part of their plan cos team galactic attacks various energy sources and other technology related places to find the stuff they need to make the big world erasure machine. could just be simply them robbing some old generator parts after their attempt to take the whole power plant failed.

Oh and also maybe add a lil something to his last scene at the galactic lab? Cos like.. what we already have in the game has potential to be a moment where he did a good thing but no its not. Like when you look at it, hey he kinda helped you out here by being all “hey lol saturn the kid is here, bye im not stopping u, feel free to take the lake trio”. Even if saturn is the one who actually SAID feel free to take the lake trio and actually had a good hint at redemptiveness moment and all. Please never take that away, that was good, you just coulda had both of them do it, yknow? And we dont wanna make charon go full good guy all of a sudden when he hasnt even finished his characetr arc, so instead make it more of a moment where its like “im a bad guy but this is going too far”. Like maybe ACTUALLY HAVE A PAYOFF for the foreshadowing that he has no loyalty to cyrus and is blatantly plotting to betray him at some point. He never actually did!! He only tries to capitalize on cyrus already being defeated in an entirely optional sidequest that fails at delivering a proper payoff.

So hey! My idea! Add some complexity here by making it clear that charon is evil in a more petty and mundane way and not in a.. like.. actually dangerous way. Once things start getting actually dangerous he starts chickening out! Like he’s a jerk who does mean things to get money but he’s just MEAN and not friggin murderous or worldending. Give him a moment of “oh shit cyrus was actually serious oh god how do i get off of this train”. Like it seemed that he never really believed that team galactic would ever truly create a new world, and he certainly didnt give a shit about it, he just thought he found an easy opportunity for a paycheck in some dumbass’s deluded plan that’d never really work. But OOPS i guess it actually is happening, oh fuck! Give him a bit of a crisis where he realizes what he actually helped this man do, but not like a full on “everything ive ever done is bad and i dont wanna be evil anymore”. Not YET! Just friggin.. “oh fuck i cant spend money if the universe doesnt exist and also i am dead”. “PLEASE HELP ME CHILD, CYRUS IS GONNA TAKE AWAY THE MONEY!!” xD It’d be fitting for his character and a good light moment of comic relief after the emotional and dark stuff happening around this section of the game. Like he already kinda does that by having that scene of saturn snarking at him, but it could be even more funny! Move the first him and saturn bickering scene to earlier on and have this be like a satisfying scene of saturn actually winning? cos in the anime it was always charon being smug and making fun of him while saturn gets all grumpy about it, now it could be the reverse with smug charon having a breakdown and realising his whole money plan is in shambles and its his own fault.

Also maybe it could have additional payoff with Charon actually helping you take down cyrus? Again, not actually because he’s switched sides but because he's still evil but evil for different reasons than cyrus. That good ‘reluctant teamup with minor goofy villain to take down big actually scary villain’ thing. With the added bonus that the minor goofy villain is objectively a worse person than the scary villain and the scary villain is still redeemable, as opposed to in the manga where they used this same trope in the form of “cyrus is good now and we’re making charon the big scary villain to prove how good cyrus is cos charon is worse”. That was dumb. It was especially dumb cos WHY ON EARTH would you pick charon for this??? like they still had moments of him being comedic and wimpy yet at the same time wanted us to believe he was legitimately threatening? ANYWAY my idea for this is that charon’s computer skills could pay off and it could be something like “oh i always put a failsafe kill switch in my computer just in case i need to grab the money and run”. Like him being a paranoid untrusting selfish asshole was actually the reason he was able to save the day! Also it would explain why cyrus’s machine only fails and summons giratina in platinum version. the manga actually did say that charon sabotaged the machine so thats one actually good thing that came from it! Congrats u filled one plothole while making twenty more XD

OH and perhaps this same section could also foreshadow the rotom thing? like I was thinking about how he could actually choose to give up and let you take the lake trio and have it still be 100% in character. It could be an extension of his “shit, i didnt think things would get this serious, please save me from the consequences of my own actions!” moment. Cos I think that any normal dumb greedy money man would still be horrified at the idea of mutilating a thousand year old majestic unicorn of mythology and then flushing it down the toilet when it outlives its uselessness. Like he doesnt do it because he wants to help you save the day or anything, just cos the idea of killing the lake trio is just too evil for even him. It could be kind of a meaningful moment about how cyrus is doing all this for good reasons yet they caused him to do these actions that are even more evil than the actual dude with evil motives. And maybe you could establish this through a scene of him and cyrus inetracting, which could also help amp up how intimidating cyrus is, in preparation for the big climax? Have charon trying to wimp out of “disposing of the useless specimens”, but cyrus is having none of it. Like it could start off funny with him making up loads of other excuses cos there’s no way he’d admit he’s having Feelings and all. “Wait but let me have them! if theyre useless to you then i can just sell them right?? ha ha thats the only reason im saying this, lol you know me i’d never be swayed by any sentiment” But cyrus sees through it instantly and gets right up in his face like fuckin Raw Cold Fury, no you are NOT going to disobey me. He is PISSED OFF because the only reason he kept this useless senile old bat around is because he’s the only one in this group who isn’t a simpering moron at the mercy of their pitiful heart. If you can’t even do that, then what’s the use of you? So everything charon tries fails and all he accomplishes is getting fired on the spot for even TALKING ABOUT defying his boss. And cyrus just orders saturn to dispose of the lake trio instead. Saturn of course is smarter and says nothing in defiance, but then the both of them work together to let you take the pokemon and just act like they failed to stop you rather than doing it on purpose. And its kind of an uncharacteristically quiet and intense moment between these dudes that are usually at each other’s throats with funny banter. They’re united for a moment but for very different reasons. Charon knew that cyrus wasnt a good guy from the very beginning and he just underestimated him, and is now feeling in over his head and worried this could be the end. And saturn always thought cyrus was good but is starting to struggle with doubts. And maybe charon actually tries to warn saturn about it? Like “hey i knew this all along but i never told you but HEY CYRUS MIGHT ACTUALLY KILL US ALL” and saturn starts on his usual speech about cyrus being the greatest but he starts to question it and AAAAA! but ultimately this moment isnt the moment where he makes the right choice, and he does end up going back to cyrus and continuing the plan. and also charon is on the edge of actually doing something good and trying to stop cyrus’s big ol doom time (albiet for selfish reasons of No Money In The New World) but he also wimps out from this chance and instead decides to grab as much cash as he can and run the fuck away, as if its even possible to outrun the destruction of a whole dimension. but at least him and saturn agreed on the lake trio rescue operation, thus their moment of almost-redemption helped the player even if they didnt actually turn good. AND then you’d have the surprise moment of charon actually stepping up at the last minute and doing his thing to sabotage the machine and all. which again doesnt really solve the whole thing and doesnt really make him turn good but at least it downgrades the threat from ‘cyrus actually succeeds in destroying the world’ to ‘okay we just need to deal with a slight case of poke-hell and one collossal centipede’. Srsly man sinnoh’s plot has the highest stakes cos in platinum you straight up actually fail and cyrus actually would have destroyed the world if not for giratina! Oh and also a random note is that i think it’d be funny if charon helped you out while still running away? like you just learn about the machine sabotage being his responsibility cos it flashes his goofy hacker logo from the anime or something. Maybe instead he hacks your Poketch and is like HEY HELLO IM GONNA SPLODE THE THING BUT NOT COS IM A GOOD GUY, BTW I AM A SAFE DISTANCE AWAY PLEASE DONT LET CYRUS KNOW I DID THIS

SO YEAH! whatever! whether or not we get that added bit of teamup with charon in the climax, we’ve still given him a bit more screentime so the player actually remembers him and actually cares about doing his optional sidequest in the postgame. so him not having a boss fight would be less of a letdown and all. But having the teamup plot would be a good opportunity to turn the wifi event into not a wifi event! maybe during his panic charon drops the key to his secret lab and thats how you get it? cos really it makes no sense at all that the magic wifi gods can just hand you something you’d have no idea existed and never have an opportunity to get. none of the other wifi items are literally a thing owned by a significant character that needs to be teleported out of his pocket by plot magic! Also it sucks that a chunk of important backstory would be hidden in a wifi event so if they still wanted rotom’s alt forms to be a wifi event then JUST make it the ability to get the forms and not the charony diary bit. Cos it makes no sense that the ENTIRE REASON CHARON EXISTS is to introduce the rotom form event yet you’d have no clue he was connected to rotom until after youve already finished the event. It gave no damn indication you had to take the key to this particular dude’s lab in team galactic!! ANd click on an otherwise unmarked wall!! Put the diary somewhere else and hey there’s a Charon Clue(tm) and now you can actually find the damn event, there you go, fixed. Also annoying cos nothing in the event tells you you have to go somewhere entirely different to catch the one rotom in the game, and click another unmarked piece of scenery that only has a staticky screen to indicate rotom if you happen to be playing at night. Seriously this is why serebii.net was such a lifesaver!!

Okay so WOOP there we go, here we are at a point where the player has seen more of charon and had oppotunities to grow to like him as a character and be suspicious that maybe he could have some sympatheticness. And if he drops an Importante Key Itemme right before the end of the game then thats a hint that postgame stuff exists involving him, and at least one clue where to find it! All the rotom diary stuff would play out exactly the same except that its less of a hell to find, lol.

BUT THEN the big difference in Stark Mountain is that now you have the full context of charon’s backstory and the game actually reacts to you having that knowledge. Like maybe if you dont do that step first then either charon never appears at stark mountain until you do, or you get an abbrieviated version of the quest without the redemption plot? I was thinking actually maybe make it one of those daily repeatable quests, to avoid the player doing the quests out of order and permenantly losing the chance to redeem gramps. Like if you dont see the rotom diary then instead of a big actual quest you just get some five minute “oh we’ve seen team galactic sneaking around stark mountain, defeat them for Some Money Or Something hey thats weird that they were only stealing money hey yknow who’s all about the money? charon! maybe go follow up on his Importante Key Itemme to continue the plot.”

SO THEN once you return Emboldened By The Knowledge Of Good Gramps, you get the proper thing. And... it would actually play out totally the same as in vanilla platinum. Charon doesn’t have a boss fight, all his minions leave him and say he sucks, he gets anticlimactically taken out by someone else in a cutscene, and his last moment is someone making a crack about him being so frail and useless that the hot volcano breeze could knock him over.

BUT THAT ISNT THE END

Its just a fake out that its gonna have the same funny ending as every other charon appearance, and the same lack of him being remotely threatening.

cos NOW WE FINALLY GIVE THE MAN A GODDAMN BOSS FIGHT

and yknow how i said i hate the manga where he’s all super evil and owns three legendaries and kills a guy? okay take away all that stuff but KEEP THE MOMENT OF GRANDPA GETTING TO DO SOMETHING BADASS FOR THE ONLY TIME EVER

Maybe he surprises everybody by actually not being down for the count! And by now he’s just SO pissed off from a whole game’s worth of failing and being disrespected that he does something desperate and stupid at the last minute. If he was meant to be the dude who invented the red chain, maybe he could use it to control heatran even if looker took away the magma stone? like i feel it’d be in character for charon to secretly steal a prototype red chain for himself during the whole “oh fuck my boss is legit destroying the world i need to get out of here” thing. Grab some stuff to sell now your last paycheck is dissappearing into an ominous void, lol. He didnt expect to actually be using it, and if the actually completed red chain puts enough stress on its weilder to make them cry blood then this thing must be even more risky to use! so its a really huge holy shit moment of tiny gramps actually doing something intimidating! and his boss fight could actually be using heatran and actually having heatran get to goddamn appear in this sidequest. it was soooo underwhelming to have to return thru the dungeon a second time to actually see heatran, this time without any story stuff to break up the long walk...

also this entire thing could be a great climax to his character arc and sort of a moment of “okay THIS was actually his motivation all along!” Cos I always felt like Charon’s real motive was low self confidence? Like he’s always on about money but he seems to focus more on SUCCESS instead. Fame and success. “Ha ha i am the greatest scientist and i want people actually aknowledge me” is a thing he repeatedly brings up and also that other characters directly demonstrate in how they act towards him. It just feels like he thinks he can buy that with money if he’s failed his whole life in earning it. And the old “acts egotistical because he actually hates himself” character archetype would work really well as a sympathetic interpretation of his character. It would be like how he’s ‘subconciously friendly’. The thing he actually does (being boastful) is because of a different reason (not believing his own lies and being super insecure about his self worth), but he keeps it so well hidden that not even he realises that its really what he feels. Similar to how he acts grumpy because of a different reason, because he actually DOES want friends and he’s just guarding his emotions under a million walls cos he’s scared of being hurt again. And scared of how he knows he’s a weak willed person who might betray his friends again for his desperation for money. Which is really a desperation to feel valid as a human being, which is really just ‘i want friends’ again under another coat of paint. So depressingly he caused his own problems because of the same character trait that was once a positive in his life! I think he works well when interpreted from that angle, he’s like a dark subversion of a pokemon professor or of your classic ash ketchum figure. Like “the power of friendship” is what turned him evil, and also turned him into a guy who acted awful to his friends. And it could add to this thematic thing if “loving pokemon” was also referenced throughout his plot in a negative sense?

That’s actually one other good thing about the manga, they removed his greedy grumpyness (bad) but replaced it with the same motive as the villain of the 2nd movie (weird flex but okay). Aka “a guy who collects legendary pokemon just as trophies and has forgotten how to treat them like genuine friends”. Even if that wouldnt be his main character concept in this hypothetical rewritten game, it could still be a secondary trait that’s used to suppliment the main emotional arc. Like instead of just saying “money money money” you could flesh out more scenes of him actually talking about HOW he’s gonna get the money and what he’s gonna use it for. Via collecting all the rare pokemon, and to collect more rare pokemon. Which will somehow (in his twisted cynical perception of how the world works) make him a person of value and get people to respect him. It could also tie together pretty much every scene he already has! Cos his backstory is finding this pokemon friend... who was a rare unknown species. And maybe as a kid he decided to become a scientist initially just out of excitement to learn more about his new friend and show them to the world! But then the realities of the difficulties in being respected as a scientist gradually wore him down and he became more cynical, more obsessed with recognition, more believing that the only way to get it was by being an asshole and he’d just get taken advantage of if he kept being soft. And he started to forget why he really wanted that fame in the first place, and instead it just became an obsession, a vain hope that he’d hate himself less if he accomplished his life’s dream. When really from the player’s perspective its obvious that even if he succeeded he’d still be depressed when he realized how he’d lost everything in the process. And it’d be a more realistic sort of way he could have turned from a good kid to an asshole gramps. There wasnt any single day he suddenly made the decision to change, it was just a gradual wearing down of his morals over the years. he became more obsessed and more cynical that normal moral ways of doing things would never get him what he wanted. he started making small sacrifices to his personal sense of morality, and eventually reached the point where he’d completely abandoned it all without even noticing the gradual change. And somewhere along the way he forgot that he started this because of his pokemon friend, and discarded it as “not good enough” in favor of this vain quest to acquire a million other rarer pokemon and just friggin put them on a shelf to boast about them and feel less empty inside. And then also his redemption was a gradual change too? After he reached that point of completely betraying his own sense of goodness, he gradually got sadder and more tired with living this way. By the time you see him ingame he’s not remotely happy with being evil and he’s just a poor dude who’s deluded that being evil is the only way to escape the sadness rather than the cause of it. And thats why his whole ‘oops im accidentally subconciously befriending my coworkers and also the enemy’ thing kinda set him on the road to eventual redemption, cos its the first bit of small upliftingness he’s had in ages. sorta recharges his Ability To Care and he starts realizing what he’s doing and feeling regret. But yeah throughout the main game he never actually acts on his doubts and just repeatedly misses the chance to get redeemed and makes you Kinda Frustrated, similar to zuko or peridot’s redemptive arc? And ultimately reuniting him with his old best friend and showing him that its not too late to fix what he broke = the actual catalyst for his changes to fully stick and he completely switches to the good side.

BUT ANYWAY thats why he needs a boss fight first!

Something like 50-70 years worth of self hate and frustration from devoting himself to a super incorrect way of defeating that self hate, and sacrificing EVERYTHING for the sake of it, and being disrespected the entire time, and being terrified that you’re getting old and running out of time, and almost dying to some guy’s weird void plan, and losing the only thing you had left aka the team galactic job and a few maybe sorta kinda friends you had, and now being disrespected AGAIN by those same people you thought were friends (but never actually admitted it to them) and then also bitchslapped by a frog?? Also this place is real fuckin sweaty?? Yeah stark mountain is a great climactic point for his entire frustrations to boil over and be a bigger eruption than the actual volcano!

Thus we have Grand Dad Gets Serious And Has An Actually Interesting Boss Fight!

but also grand dad is being emotionally open and whoops accidentally might be tearing down those walls he built up around his big ol soft as fuck heart

like the battle would possibly be more ‘you talk him down into giving up, realizing he was wrong, quitting being evil, and going home to his friend that he misses so much. and finally realizing that thats actually the only way he could ever really defeat the self hate that drove him this far in the first place. also he’s not worthless and his friends always believed he was the awesome dude he always wanted to be’. Yknow, rather than actually defeating him and all. I mean you still do that but i think it’d be a case like with the giratina fight where even if you lose or run away you get the same result, just slightly altered text? Just as long as you come here with rotom in your party your victory was already a foregone conclusion. you just get a really cool boss fight as your reward, yknow? cos seriously I WAS WAITING THE WHOLE GAME FOR THAT DAMN BOSS FIGHT!!!

context: it makes more sense if you imagine it as his own internal thoughts of all the stuff he’s been running away from accepting in his own feelings. and/or what he THINKS that the player and rotom would be saying to him, so he’s shocked into speechlessness by the fact that they actually do think he deserves a second chance and has the potential to be good.

actually that could be a really good ending to the fight!!!

like when you get through to him and convince him to stand down, he cowers in fear thinking he’s gonna get the karmic payback for everything he’s ever done. and he tries to run away from reuniting with rotom. half of him is scared that his friend hates him and the other half is.. well..

i think it would be thematically appropriate to end it with a hug

just an image of this lil toy robot pokemon hugging this scared old man, and he’s just so empty and doesnt know what to say. its the last thing he ever expected. and then his shock turns into pain and sadness, as he was really the most scared that his friend actually would forgive him. that everything he ever did really was all for nothing, and he should have done this years ago and saved all that lost time. he’s so scared because he thinks he doesnt deserve forgiveness and he doesnt know what to do now its happening. so he just lets out all those tears he’s never cried over all these years, and the scene ends with him desperately hugging his best friend and never wanting to let go ever again

And then that’d be the big moment that was really the turning point for him, though of course that wouldnt be the end of his redemption and if there was any further postgame content you could show various scenes of him atoning throughout that. or just some images in the second credits scene after you beat the postgame stuff. i’d kinda like if there was some moment of him apologising to the rest of team galactic and joining them in their attempts to rebuild the team into something good. and maybe an extra postgame segment where this redeemified team goes on some bigger quest to try and rescue cyrus from the distortion world and heal his pain too. i think you could get a lot of good scenes out of a redeemed charon being along for the ride! like you’d obviously have cyrus being skeptical that this dude really has changed so much, and probably an extension of that earlier scene where he’s pissed off that the one guy he thought agreed with him about emotions being foolish is actually being the most emotional of everyone. but i think because of that they could also have scenes of relating together and actually starting to form a friendship in the end? like i can see charon feeling guilty for never trying to reach out to cyrus before, and also believing really strongly that cyrus can be redeemed cos like ‘yo i’m way worse than you and i was able to change, please believe that its a possibility for you too!’ Also cyrus likes machines so i think he’d be happy to meet rotom and become friends. And he has that whole grandpa related backstory so it might help a lot towards healing those scars and reuniting the two of them if he starts forming a friendship with a different gramps? THERES A LOT OF GOOD THEMATIC LINKS BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TEAM GALACTIC MEMBERS THAT ARE NEVER EXPLORED IN THE ORIGINAL GAME

also in the original version of this plotline it was a fanfic/fangame idea of an alternate universe swap where dawn/lucas/other customizeable protagonist is a galactic grunt instead of the hero. so a lot of the details were different but in that version the protag was literally adopted by whichever galactic admin they picked as their main friendship route. entirely because of self indulgent ‘i wish these guys were my dad/sister/grandpa/whatever’ feels cos sinnoh helped me thru a tough time as a kid. soooo i cant really do that charon grandpa idea where he also renovates the Old Chateau into a ghost pokemon sanctuary and becomes like an actual good pokemon professor. (also rekindles his friendship with prof rowan and agatha from the kanto elite four cos thats just a random headcanon i have) BUT i could still do all that except the part where he adopts u cos canon dawn/lucas already has a mom lol. And i think it’d be more fitting of canonverse protag to adopt Cyrus? Like obv in the canonverse itd probably be the main boss of the team who gets the bigger redemption plot and is canonically the best friend EVEN THO for tumblr user tumblunni in particular it is All Grandpas All The Time. And i like the idea of Cyboy being a survivor of child abuse who tries to become a good dad just like his parents werent. But i also like the idea of dawn’s mom adopting him as her new big brother and him getting to experience a genuine loving family for the first time! I think itd work that way cos cyrus is meant to be 27 even tho he looks older, and i dont think dawn’s mom is that young and also i just see no chemistry between them as any sort of ship. (and headcanon cyrus as asexual anyway) But also the family does still keep in touch with all the other galactic friends!!!

i talk about religion here, if this kind of thing bothers you, just skip it

 I read a bit of the book of Job, which has always been my favorite bible story, i wont give you the summary but i skipped to the part where god answers Job and it makes me smile. after suffering the loss of his children and his wealth but especially his health, job was in abject misery. his friends tried to console him but they did a piss poor job. Job maintained that he had not sinned but they were saying he must have sinned, and he should make a sacrifice so his fortune could be restored. the counsel of his friends was almost worse than the misfortunes he was suffering. finally god answers Job, and he tells him

“gird up your loins like a man, for you are about to answer to me!”  

 i think hes playing with Job, and i know for a fact, despite the way this sounds Job was both frightened and overjoyed just to hear from god in this moment. Job new he had not sinned, and he spent i dont even know how many days and nights asking god why this had happened to him, to finally hear from god, who he’d spent his whole life faithful to, in this moment he must have been terrified and elated, i imagine god is smiling during this entire speech, and in the end, he says Job spoke rightly of him, in saying that in this world the righteous suffer and the evil prosper, this characterization of the world made jobs friends uncomfortable, but indeed thats how it be sometimes, and god said

“Job spoke rightly of me, while you have not!”

 of course he proceeds to grill job asking him stuff like

“oh you were there when i laid the foundations of the earth?”

but remember, he said Job spoke rightly of him, and god asked his three friends to make sacrifices to him but not job, he restored everything to Job three fold, the number three is important in the bible, its the perfect number, it doesnt mean he restored Job three times as many children, just that his restoration was much more than what he’d lost and it was perfect. people complain that

“Job’s three children are still DEAD! what the fuck did they do? and how does giving Job more kids replace his old ones?”

but they are like Job’s three friends, trying to use the wisdom of men to discern gods ways, life and death are nothing to god, and he redeemed us from death in the end. another thing of note, is that my dealings with god have been nothing like the god of the old testament, its much more personal, and kinder. its because we are now under grace. in the old testament if you straight up MURDERED somebody you just sacrificed some cows and you and god were straight, thats honestly not a bad deal. now people claim we are saved by faith or works or some combination thereof, but i dont think thats so. we just ARE saved, whether you believe it or not, whether or not you take advantage of this. god has given me everything i ever asked for eventually. years and years ago, when i was ugly, i prayed earnestly that hed make me handsome, and he did. whenever i pray for the attention of women, he gives it to me, how could god give me those things? how could i even ask for them? because he knows i want them whether i ask or not! what am i gonna keep it a secret from god? am i gonna try to circumvent god and get those things on my own? just ask, ask and pay attention, it might take wayyyy longer than you think but he’ll give it to you, you dont even have to stop sinning, thats the old testament covenant we are under a new covenant of grace. people pay so much attention to things like homosexuality or perversion, forgetting we are under grace! these things shouldnt be celebrated, but the ones chastising gay people are just the same as the ones they are chastising, both sin and both are under grace, it doesnt matter what you do, thats what grace is! modern christians try to make gods sacrifice in the new testament meaningless, they use mental gymnastics to shackle people to the old law, and even worse than the old law because at least with the old law you could just kill some fucking cows and everything would be right as rain, in their faulty interpretation not only can you not commit adultery, but you cant even THINK about adultery and if you do, there is nothing tangible that will restore you to gods good graces, its frankly, evil, but they too are under gods grace.

7.07 Thoughts

First off - the leaked scripts were real. It was actually pretty annoying. I felt like I was watching the episode twice. I hope Season 8 doesnt have a lad leaker. I really do. I enjoy watching the episodes raw. And lets be completely, dead honest here - I would not have known about the leaks or seen them accidentally if I wasnt as active on Tumblr. At least on Reddit I can choose to avoid certain subreddits. On tumblr, if someone posts a spoiler there is absolutely no way of blocking it preemptively. I dont want to have to leave Tumblr next season... My sister (the family that is visiting right now, that I posted about not too long ago that we do not get along), doesnt watch GoT because she doesnt have HBO. She keeps up via snapchat and posts on Facebook. She thought that Longclaw blinking was super important, if that helps you understand how she keeps up with GoT. In gifs and screaming southerners on facebook. Anywho, when Jon said he pledged himself for D@ny, my sister leaned over and whispered "that made her super horny." Yes. I didn't see "horniness" in Danish Pastries eyes, but that was literally what was written in the leaked script - so obviously it translated to a very VERY casual viewer. So I asked her it she thought Jon was in love with D@ny and she acted like I was crazy for even asking. Obviously he likes her. Like a boy is mean to his crush on the playground, she said. That didn't make me feel much better. Honestly, I dont think Emilia is a bad actress. I think she plays stern, cold boss bitch very well. Or screaming entitled delusional girl. (which I honestly mean because Emilia is such the opposite in real life) And when directors told her to play heart eyes, she did heart eyes. I dont think shes a bad actress. I just find D@ny as a character boring now. Up until saving the Wight Hunters, she hadnt done anything redeemable or "good" since maybe Season 2-3. Anywho- off track. All this talk about honor and keeping his word and being Ned Starks "son" really struck me. He promised to fight for the north no matter the odds. So him pledging to D@ny is his own way of protecting the north. Protecting his family. But how can he talk about honor and keeping his word if he's secretly undercover? I really think he's being sacrificial. Thats something Jon would do. Give up his dreams and personal gain to save everyone. When Cersei, the coldest, baddest, most heartless bitch in all of Westeros, talks about how seeing just ONE wight made her fear for the ones she loves - imagine how JON FEELS seeing thousands of them. He is AFRAID for his family. He will so whatever it takes to protect Sansa, Arya, Bran and the North who chose him as their leader. I dont know if Jon realized immediately, that once Viserion died the NK had him. If Jon did, then that absolutely would have put him on express mode. Now - one big thing when Jon was with Ygritte and the Wildlings, is that they ALWAYS said "burn my body so I dont end up like them." I can just imagine Jon remembering those words every time he thinks of Sansa, Arya and Bran or the coming walkers. That he doesnt want his loved ones to turn into wights - because it was even what the wildlings feared most. Its a fate worse than death. He burned Ygritte. He's burned so many people so they dont turn into wights. He is trying to save his family from that morbid fate. Then we have Theon and Jon talking. So - I think Jon's "it might look that way on the outside" is a hint at his undercover/sacrificial ways. But, whats also really interesting to me, is that Theon brings up RAMSAY. And Jon narrows his eyes like "yea, tell me more about that monster who hurt my Sansa." As if he wants to hear about Ramsay and what Theon went through - as if to understand Sansa more. To get more insight on what happened to her. Theon bringing up Ramsay would make Jon think about Sansa here. And they're talking about THEON saving his SISTER. And Jons response is "why are you talking instead of doing? What are you waiting for?" YES. YES. YES. Jon is so sure that the right thing to do is to put yourself in danger to save your family - your sister. He doesn't think about it. His answer is instinctual. Because thats what hes doing now. JUST DO - dont think. His answer is everything to me. SO MUCH. SO MUCH. Sansa didnt seem that upset when Petyr suggested Jon wants to marry D@ny. Which to me says Sansa has NOT considered a romantic relationship with Jon - YET. And what usually happens in romantic plots, is that theres an awakening moment that brings one of the interests to realize what they want. Maybe this is Sansas wake up call. That the idea of Jon marrying another leaves a bitter taste in her mouth. But we dont see full on jealously in this episode, really. At least I didnt. Okay - now to boatsex. We have a brief moment of Jon standing in front of her door before knocking. He goes TO HER. Which bothers me. I just cant imagine canon!Jon initiating sex with anyone. Hes too noble and honorable. Sex outside of marriage? Possible bastard babies? Reading signs wrong? But this could be a moment where hes deciding - welp, I have to do this to earn her undying loyalty for good. Im not completely sold on ignoring my "he'll fuck the first girl who isnt his sister" or "he has to prove something" headcanons either. I mean, I believe he is giving into D@nys affections because he has nothing else to lose. Sansa is his sister. D@ny is beautiful. And Jon might see something good in her, especially after she has postponed her quest for the throne to save mankind - but deep down their characters are so different that HOW could he really be in love with her? And the fact that their sex scene is over cut with exposition and dialogue means that this scene is more than just a romance. Its a plot point. It has to be spelled out. Its still mysterious. D@ny is in love, but Jon? Jon searches into her eyes as if he has to convince himself to stay hard. I think Jonsa is endgame - but the real question here is, does he love Sansa or D@ny? Will he love both? Or does he love neither? I have more posts about the other characters this episode, the writing, and the problems soon. This is just my quick post episode Jonsa reaction. My phone is at 4% so I will have to come back later. (OMG PLEASE DONT DIE ON ME) Lets just say that I think JonxD@ny is fanservice, and that we shouldnt trust D&DBs writing completely or write any possible outcome and plot turn off. And love each other, we have fanfiction and remember they are fiction. (but Jonsa is endgame ;) ) OH- And "the dragon and the wolf"? The writers obviously thought they were being clever to get a double meaning out of a title, about Rheagar and Lyanna and Jon and D@ny. Doesnt mean theyre a couple - theyre just the most important plot reveal this episode. :p

Yknow what upset me about the SU fandom (before wanted and Lars head)? How they could let every other character have flaws except him. I know he did some shitty stuff but doesn't everyone at some point? Pearl can be selfish, Steven can get angry, Garnet can be unfair. But when Lars shows signs of cowardice or anger or negativity, people HATE it. Flaws are what make us human, and I hate how people just couldn't let Lars make mistakes. That's what growing up IS. Blarg rant over, lot o feels sorry!

I knoooooow dude. It was annoying as hell. Like? Give the kid a break. It was also pretty fucking hypocritical when people would crucify Lars for being a moody and generally hot tempered teenager while simultaneously FAWNING over the Crystal Gems for their realistic flaws.

Lars hasn’t even been alive longer than 20 years and he still got shit all over because yep. This is it. He’s gonna be like this for the rest of his life. He’s the spawn of Satan and will never emotionally grow. There is no changing this kind of behaviour. MEANWHILE the THOUSAND OF YEARS OLD gems who have had plenty of time to grow and develop as people, still fuck up and make morally ambiguous decisions. Do we even need to go into the amount of shit the gems did? I mean, I love them but these are not perfect angels, my dude.

But God no, Lars is clearly the one at fault here for rejecting Steven’s high five that one time.

Also, all these people were so down for mental illness representation until it showed an actually mentally ill character being mildly unpleasant. Because sometimes that’s just what mental illness is. We’re not all going to be a beam of sunshine to be around sometimes. He wasn’t alright in the head and often lashed out as a result. For both mentally ill people and teenagers alike, this is a pretty common thing. Are these people seriously saying that they never once saw themselves in Lars? Becaaaaause I did. Like regularly. To me, he was like a summary of teenage struggles in a nutshell.

Lars had very obvious social anxiety (His desperation to impress the cool kids, his reluctance to be himself in their presence, how to make it seem like he wasn’t “Trying too hard” Like he was simultaneously excited and dreading this potluck because he let himself overthink too much. Also straight up deciding that he just COULDNT show up to the potluck. Anxiety tends to work in pretty paralyzing ways, stopping you from doing things you know in your heart you SHOULD do. Lars had depression (Okay this is more of a headcanon than a fact but I am almost certain that his grades are so bad cuz he cant find the motivation to do shit. Also, according to his parents, all they’re asking for is “A little effort” implying he straight up doesn’t even try. Also “Sadie, do you ever feel lonely? Even when you’re around people?” That is a depressed boy, my dude.)

Lars hated himself. (Buddy, did you HEAR that speech he gave in Stuck Together?? Like dude “I’m a wuss. I’ve always been stupid and afraid” He just sounded so done, so angry, so fucking frustrated. Like this shit had been weighing down on his shoulders forever. With that clear anger towards HIMSELF, it doesnt surprise me in the slightest that he had a tendency to take it out on those around him.)

Now, I don’t think Lars’ habit of being a dick in early seasons should just be overlooked or excused as “Depressed.” Like no. Whatever goes on in your head, whatever comes out of your mouth, regardless of your mental state, you still need to take responsibility for it. The fact was that Lars WASNT taking responsibility, was probably the biggest flaw he had. Because he could just be shitty in general sometimes. A very human-like trait to have. But we’ve all been shitty people in the past and I never understood this “He’ll never change” mentality.

Like Lars in early seasons was intentionally written as a bit of a prick and it wouldn’t matter in the slightest if you didn’t like him. It was understandable. I mean, he blamed Rose for a problem, and yelled about it, referring to her as Steven’s “Weird mom!” Like yeah, that was pretty low. But as soon as Steven yelled in retort, Lars’ face dropped like he regretted his words instantly. It was little touches like these, that really highlighted him as the person he was. Kind of a dick, kind of spoke without thinking sometimes but ultimately not heartless.

The series comes from Steven’s perspective so there are a lot of thing we’ll never see unless he’s present but according to Sadie, Lars is generally a lot kinder in private. We don’t know the extent, we don’t know if he’s nice enough to excuse his public persona but welp, I guess that’s a topic of debate that anyone can have a different opinion on. Sadie seems to think positively about him anyway.

The most annoying part of all of the hate, felt like the fandom was trying to rush Lars’ development. Like there was this pressure in every episode he was in and if he wasn’t perfect yet, he was just gonna get shit on some more. He was being scrutinized for every action WAAAY more intently than any other character.

But like the crewniverse was certainly TRYING. There was clearly something big in store for Lars and I don’t think any of us ever imagined what we ended up getting(HE’S PINK) but patience was a big factor here. You just needed to have faith that this shitty kid would sort himself out eventually. But so many people didn’t believe in him at all and honestly it was kind of disheartening.

But damn, man. He got his big hero moment and I’m so proud of him. While I don’t think his story is over yet, I feel as though Lars Head definitely wrapped up this whole arc that’s been budding since season 1. Honestly, while I still feel that his early actions could have been forgiven with just gradual attempts at kindness and opening up, I’m so happy with what we got instead. Like the crewniverse did not have to go all out. They didn’t  have to make Lars save all those gems, they didn’t have to make him die trying to help, they didn’t have him be the reason Steven made it home safe. They could have redeemed him in such a smaller subtler way but nah man. If that had happened, there would still be a split division of people who STILL didnt like him or felt as though he shouldnt be forgiven.

But the way his development was executed was done in such a big badass extra way, that there would be absolutely no argument whatsoever that Lars had finally proven himself as a good guy. Even people who don’t like him, have to agree now.

AA characters as shitty early 2000s disney channel shows 

APOLLO’S SHOW IS CALLED “BAD MENTORS” beacause of FUCKIG COURSE IT IS hav u SEEN this boy????? help him. 

on paper the plot is that apollo justice (already a perfect name) is a middle school kid (played by a fucking college-age actor) who just got an internship doing some ~vague cool adult job~ 

but the show treats this “internship” as the same as a really exclusive high school the same way spongebob treats driving school like high school, so.. 

anyway. all his teachers are terrible, but theyre all terrible in like...redeemable ways. like the laid-back teacher is sometimes too laid back, the teacher who gives too much homework is really fun to talk to, that kind of thing. like ned’s declassified except terrible and i promise not to compare that masterpiece with this garbage ever again i am so sorry 

THE MAIN TWO TEACHERS are mr wright and mr wong (because pun). 

mr wong is an OBVIOUSLY EVIL MAN. he has a hand scar from a chemical burn shaped like a spooky face, he likes to rob orphanages, he has dreams of ruling the world...but he’s also really understanding and gives apollo all the warm, fatherly help he needs to pass his classes make it through his internship :) 

MR WRIGHT is, however, A WONDERFUL MAN who recycles, donates to charity, and baked cookies for the fundraiser. BUT HE’S ALSO A TOTAL DICK TO APOLLO. brushes him off and makes fun of his Dumb Hair and is just generally a deadbeat asshole. 

theyre also enemies. mr wright and mr wong are arch enemies. constantly fighting. fighting over everything. fighting over who apollo loves more. 

WHO DOES APOLLO LOVE MORE??? that’s the plot. 

also there’s a really anticlimactic mid-season-2 twist that mr wright’s daughter is ACTUALLY APOLLO’S LONG-LOST SISTER. 

(when Real Apollo sees this on TV he says “this show seems really familiar...” and looks over at phoenix/trucy...then at the tv...then phoenix/trucy...then at the tv... hmmmmm....)

PHOENXI WRIGHT’S TV SHOW is called “THE LIE MASTER” and oh man lemme tell you...... 

so Nick is a generally well-liked but kinda troublemaker kid right?? he’s not popular but he’s kinda a putz, kinda a nerd, almost fuse nick with larry here. remember, this is what early 2000s disney thinks we think is cool. 

and he’s got a Big Test but UH OH!! HE DIDNT STUDY!! so he like...makes up a bunch of answers and turns it in. it was a written-answer test, not a scantron or anything.. 

and, because he was bullshitting absolutely everything, his answers are all JUUUUUUUST esoteric and cryptic enough that the teacher not only gives him an A+, but thinks he’s a FUCKIN G GENIUS!!!!!! 

AND HIS PARENTS THINK HE’S A GENIUS. THEY BUY HIM A LIMO. 

AND ALL HIS TEACHERS THINK HE’S A GENIUS. THEY gIVE HIM SPECIAL TREATMENT.

nick is just wWALLOWING In the fucking attention, right?? ? HE LOVES THIS. he can just make up answers and as long as theyre absurd/vague enough he gets praise. it’s amazing. 

his rich snobby harvard-bound BFF Miles’s family starts to like him better than they like Miles even tho before they absolutely hated him, which drives a wedge between him and Miles.. Miles has known him for FUCKING forever so he’s just like 

“i’m onto you, Nicolas.” (because his name cant be phoenix) “I know you and I know you’ve never been that smart. I’ll find your secret. I’ll find it if it’s the last thing I do! THEN we’ll see who overshadows me and wins all the scholarships ive worked so hard for!!!!” 

but there’s antoehr problem. the only person who knows for sure that he’s making shit up.......is the girl hes got a crush on, Maya. she’s a STRONG INDEPENDENT WOMAN and the entire show teases them getting together but it’s only ever actually canon that nick has a crush on her. this is never resolved. 

SHE COMES UP TO HIM WITH HER ARMS FOLDED, POUTIN ALL SASSY-LIKE LIKE “You cant fool me! I KNOOOOW youre just lying!!” 

“What?? HOW?” 

“My sister did the SAME THING when SHE was our age! And now she’s in college to be an engineer-lawyer-astrophysicist! That’s THREE PhDs! She’s gonna get all her doctorates this year and she’s only 16!!”

but Maya says dont worry, she’ll keep his secret...IF she can ride on his coat tails/he’ll make her popular by being her best friend. for the rest of the show she’s giving him advice based on what her sister would do. 

also whenever they need a deus ex machina, maya texts her sister for help.

MILES’S SHOW i havent titled it. oh well. 

after the ~mysterious death~ of his father (that’s never properly addressed as an actual life-changing tragedy), miles is adopted by a STRICT NO-NONSENSE GERMAN DAD and taken to GERMANY where things are DIFFERENT than in america! (but not too different because this is disney) 

(also this is early 2000s disney so the german is incorrect half the time, they couldnt be arsed to get a real translator) 

the show is poorly timed WWII jokes heavily influenced by Home Alone 2: Lost In New York and other wacky misadventures of kids lost in cities/cultures they arent familiar with. i am not going to mention rugrats here because that show was very intelligent and i wont dare squander its name. 

ANYWAY it’s miles and his WACKY TROUBLE-MAKING LITTLE SISTER FRANNY who is way too smart for her age. she keeps getting miles in trouble and then being soooooo cute and innocent that Miles gets blamed instead. 

franny is basically a fucking sociopath. she’s the unholy offspring of angelica pickles and megan parker. 

miles is please dont sue us, skype Video Chat™ friends with phoenix (whose name is actually allowed to be phoenix now that he’s the wacky side character) who knows miles from back in american school before he moved. 

miles can exposition to him freely. 

they either never address the timezone difference or address it way too much depending on the episode. 

after the first season, the studio said that the stakes were “too low,” so the writers introduced the possibility that miles’s father’s death was part of some kind of complex conspiracy scheme masterminded by von karma. 

this was built up for two seasons, never resolved, miles never found out, and the show was abruptly cancelled.

so I got my dad arrested today.

I called the cops on him for beating up my brother.

Apparently in my state no one needs to press charges in order for there to be an arrest in the case of domestic assault. Glad I didn’t know that, I’m not sure I woulda called if I knew.

He cant come home tonight, which is fine. He has to go to court tomorrow. Apparently they don’t need us there, which seems odd to me but whatever. 

I’m very tired. I both can and can’t believe it’s come to this.

I’m not sorry I called the cops on him, he needs to realize that he’s a problem. But I really can’t believe we’re at this point. Where he got arrested. That I got him arrested. 

He’s damaged my family in many different ways. He’s made me scared of men, even my own beloved bf, when they’re mad. He’s the reason my brother reacts with violence, bc that’s what he’s been taught. God knows what sort of toll it’s taken on my mom, ever the peacemaker. I refuse to be the peacemaker. I refuse to make room for someone who won’t do the same for me. I refuse to spend my life accepting people who won’t give me the same courtesy. I’m proud of that, even if it’s come from a point of disappointment and frustration at her behavior. I understand why she does it. She feels she must in order to keep her family as a whole, and as individuals, safe. And it doesn’t work.

My dad is not spending the night in jail, but he was put behind bars until my uncle arrived with bail.

I have a lot of problems with my dad, from his refusal to even understand that other people can’t control their emotions, to his awful politics, to his aggression. Every conversation with him becomes a lecture, an argument, or just the same old jokes.

If it weren’t for the money he brought in, would we be better off without him? I don’t know. It’s hard to imagine. He’s not exactly super present, but he’s certainly here. We have the same sense of humor (tho I am far wittier). I was trying to think of other good things, but can’t, really. He gave me my love of motorcycles, but I can’t drive them. I may have gotten my love of reading from him, but that was pretty independent. We don’t even like the same books. I tried to get him to read Good Omens and he stopped bc he felt it was derivative. Or something. So clearly he has no taste. 

He says if he’s convicted with jail time, he’ll lose his job and we’ll have to sell the house. He will not get jail time, realistically. It was not said as a threat. He deals with shit by making unfunny jokes. 

He took me out to ice cream the other night bc I was upset with my health stuff. He cares. He’s just shit at it. So why is he like this? Why does he think it acceptable to pummel his son for calling him a “Dummy”?  Apparently he thinks he only hit my brother once. He did not. 

I hate my brother. He’s a terrible human being, frankly overall worse than my father. But this is beyond unacceptable behavior. 

I’m so tired. And sad. 

I don’t think much will change. Perhaps this level of violence won’t happen again. What if it does? If I then call the cops again? Will we lose our house? What will happen when he comes home tomorrow? How will he behave? My mom and brother insist he will act as tho his tail is between his legs. I suspect he will act like nothing has changed. Will likely apologize to my brother. Probably have some “meaningful” speech for him. A lecture disguised as guilt. 

I’d like to say he’s not an abusive man. But can I say that when this has happened? When this has happened more than once? Not with frequency, but more than once. I believe it was last year that he tried to strangle Greg, but I think Greg threw the first punch? They were both much more violent when Greg was younger. Greg was very violent, and Dad reacted the same. Despite my brother being much, much younger than now. It’s gotten to a physical altercation maybe....idk 7 times total in my memory, in 25 years, and that’s just a guess. But is 7 already too many? Where is the line? Is 1 the line, what makes someone abusive? Is it 2, when you forgave the first and they do it again?  I don’t understand how to think of my dad. I don’t like him, and haven’t in years. He’s a jerk, and has few redeeming qualities in my eyes. Mom always insists that he’s “a good man”, but is he?

I hope this is humiliating for him. He needs some humility. I want him to be shamed, when giving his statement and explaining that he attacked his son for calling him “dummy”, I hope he is ashamed, I hope he realizes what we live with.

He won’t. He may realize what he did today was wrong. Probably will. He won’t realize what we all live with here in this house. Won’t realize I live in fear Won’t realize mom is so tired Won’t realize that he’s the reason greg is the way he is, at least in part. Won’t realize that BECAUSE he’s the reason greg is this violent, he is indirectly also responsible for the abuse I’ve met at my brother’s hands.

I hesitate to say I’ve been abused, I feel that word is not for me. I don’t think it is. But I am emotionally damaged from the behavior in this house, I feared, so badly. I still fear. I am sad about the people who have made me afraid. I’ve said that before, in a bout of self-realization. I am still sad, and I am still afraid. 

I don’t fear for my safety in this house. He has never hit me, he likely never will. And yet I am fearful. Of what, I do not know. Of loud noises, of angry men, of saying the wrong thing and making things worse, making loud, angry men angry at me too.

This isn’t going anywhere, but it helps(?) to think things out, sometimes. It’s cathartic in a sad and headachey way. I understand myself better. I usually don’t like what I learn, but at least I have learned it. That has to be something. It feels like something, at least.

I think they have the most emotional dynamic of all his potential children, since Vexen feels like he failed to protect this kid and then had to watch him grow up literally as a monster and become this super depressed cynical schemer and then gets to see him finally smile again when they become human again and just AAAAGH MY HEART

Also i never expected him and demyx to be super team up buddies in kh3 but now i love it and im sad we didnt get to see more of them being goofy opposites bickering buds who do care about each other deep down. Also i like the ship of demyx and ienzo so that works really well with that! Think of demyx beibg super excited like HEY BEST BUDDY IM DATING YOUR SON YOURE MY FATHER IN LAW AND WE CAN HANG OUT AAAALLL THE TIIIIIIIME and vexen is just like *internal screaming* ans then they end up on some awkward bonding fishing trip or something and eventually he reluctantly admits that he DOES appreciate the friendship and also totally thinks that demyx is a talented young lad who would make his son quite happy and he's admitting all this to ienzo while thinking demyx is out of earshot and then he turns around and he's right there and HEARTWARMING COMEDY FREAKOUTS! I like him and Lexeus which is kind of a rare pair and i dont really understand why? I mean they knew each other in the backstory and then he's the other notable backstory person partnered with vexen in the organization alongside his literal son so its implied they were close. He is chilly, give him sweaters! He doesnt have a particularly high tolerance for cold weather despite his ice powers. And he has a weak spot for coziness, he'll pretty much drop straight to sleep in five minutes flat if you put him in a comfy chair by the fire. And whoever you ship him with, imagine them totally finding it super cute!! And also imagine them knitting him an embarassing christmas sweater and he's all grumpy about it but secretly appreciates it :3
