22. describe your writing process from scratch to finish

So usually with a long fic I'll sit down and just word vomit everything I want to include in the fic into a document. Then it break that down into the chapter sections about what I think I'll include in each chapter. Then get to writing, deleting the notes as I complete that scene. Whenever I finish a scene I proof read before moving onto the next bit. Things might get moved, more things might get added, some bits might get taken out but having that rough framework really helps to know where I am going and keep pushing through.

43. how did writing change you?

God so much and like really I have the Ted Lasso fandom to thank for that. When I discovered Ted Lasso I was going through the worst period of my life. Crippling anxiety, guilt, depression, exhaustion ... like it was ... it was bad team. And like it is still bad but I started writing again, just a silly little 5+1 Jamie and Ted fic and people liked it and people were commenting and saying how good it was and I know it's not good to do stuff for external praise but it started me believing in myself again. Everything wasn't hopeless because I was good at something and the little friends in my phone were looking forward to what I did next 🥹

70. are you very critical of your own writing? how much do you find yourself editing (either during the writing or after the fact)?

I really have to have the approach of not really thinking about it too much. If I start thinking about what is wrong with my writing and tinkering and changing then I fall into a hole and that fic becomes dead to me. I edit as I write and then give it a couple of read throughs before I post

Thinking about the acephobic takes floating around, and Jaiden Animations' coming out video, and how no, I think there's actually a LOT of overlap and shared experiences between aro and ace spec people and the rest of the LGBT+ community. Like. I'm bisexual, right, but I lean quite heavily towards women and nb folk over men. So growing up I, too, realized all the other girls (I'm nb and afab) were developing crushes on boys and that I was supposed to be doing that too. And, upon having this realization, I picked one, consciously, to have a "crush" on. I didn't really, in hindsight, obviously. I also remember thinking it'd be so much easier to have a crush on the girl who sat in front of me, because she was so much nicer and prettier than any of the boys in class, which is the part I usually tell when asked about growing up, before I realized I was bi.

I also commonly experience pressure to date from well meaning friends and family, who want me to be happy, and don't understand that settling down and marrying a man and having a baby are not what would make me happy, which I know is a huge aro experience.

Basically, I want every aro and ace person out there to know you do belong in this community, that your experiences of not having the expected romantic or sexual attraction to a specific gender IS something you share with some allos in the community. We see you, we love you, we relate to you, and you belong here. I'm sorry if you feel what Jaiden expressed in her video, and that yes, we tend to focus and celebrate more on what we DO feel instead of what we don't. I'd like to change that. I'd like to share more stories of experiences we've both had, because of the heteronormative world we live in.

I am so consistently blown away by the level of talent that artists in the FR community have and share with us. Some of y'all out here creating literal masterpieces of beautiful dragons and sometimes I am just struck with awe at the level of love and talent and time poured into a pixel dragon game.

I cannot stress enough how much seeing the many and varied art pieces produced by all of the amazing artists out here fills my heart with joy and hope.
