My most inconsequential and minor pet peeve in Merlin fics is when someone recognises Merlin's serket sting scar because in series they're always fatal without magical intervention so how would anyone else in Camelot ever had gotten to the point of a scar, let alone enough people who are comfortable displaying it that it's a recognisable injury

Sometimes I share wips and they get reblogged by someone popular and they get a whole bunch of notes, and when I publish the actual fic it gets... maybe half of those, and I wonder where I went wrong XD

y'know something i've never thought about before?

Sophie Foster probably has 0 social skills. Like, even negative social skills. She probably has intense and constant social anxiety. She's probably perpetually at a loss as to what to think about people. In fact, it's probably a driving reason she doesn't notice when people like her.

Know why?

From age five, she was able to read minds.

And she didn't get a choice about it. She got to know the interior motives, the interior mindscape, of every single person she interacted. She never had to watch facial expressions to know how people were feeling. She just got to hear it straight from their heads.

So, when the lost cities demanded she stop reading minds, I'm willing to bet this girl immediately lost her ability to be socially competent, probably because she's never had to guess or connect the tiny details about what people's expressions suggest.

It probably drives her insane, subtly, that she can't know what anyone's thinking or feeling. And she's getting better at it, probably, over the years, but the point remains that for a hot minute, she probably has no clue what's going on.

She can't read Fitz's mind, she can't tell what he thinks about her until he lets her. Same thing with Keefe, and I don't believe she's ever tried to read Dex's mind.

This girl probably relied heavily on what her telepathy could tell her about others.

And I just wonder how long it took for her to adapt to not being able to read minds.
