Santana Lopez is lazy. At least, according to herself in New Directions (5x13) "I'm too lazy to do eight shows a week". Now I have many issues with this episode and the entire understudy plot, but that isn't what I want to expand on here. I just want to talk about this one line.
Warning, this is a very long post.
Where on Earth did the writers get that idea? I can see Santana genuinely believing that about herself since her self esteem isn't always the greatest, but Rachel never corrects her. Santana says she is lazy, and that's it. She's lazy. But wait a minute, are we talking about the same Santana here?
Let me bring up the obvious. The cheerios. I don't think it's possible to be lazy and be a cheerleader under the leadership of Sue Sylvester (unless you're Becky, I guess). Santana was a cheerio for all of season 1 and 3, half of season 2 (only because without her, Quinn, and Brittany the cheerios weren't good enough to win), and presumably all of her freshman year. That's three and a half years of gruelling training and death-defying stunts. And for her senior year she is co-captain, so taking on extra responsibilities.
Also cheerios related, in Diva 4x13 Sue offers Santana a job as the cheerios coach. Despite knowing how tough Sue is she says yes. Later when speaking to Britt she says that she'll take over fully when Sue dies and she's gonna make sure that happens within a few years (presumably a joke but who knows what would've happened).
Then there's the New Directions. Santana is in the glee club for three (almost) straight years. We don't often see much more than lessons being introduced and then singing, but it's established in season 1 that they do vocal warm ups/training. There's also booty camp which runs late season 2 and all season 3. After she gets (unfairly imo) kicked out in The Purple Piano Project (3x01), she agrees to join Booty Camp to come back to ND. In universe she is one of the better dancers, so this is just a punishment that she accepts, she wants to be in the glee club and will do extra work for it. There's also practising for their competition numbers (even if it's the day of). In season 1 she helps come up with some choreography. Santana often has solo parts and was one of only a few members to get a full solo where she doesn't just park and bark (obvi Britt and Mike were the featured dancers but Santana has her own choreo). Santana is also one of only four characters who audition for a solo for nationals in Funeral (2x21), and she's one of only two who have some sort of choreography.
Continuing on with glee clubs, the Troubletones. Santana joined TT to get more focus. We saw TT discussions and dance practise, and we know that Shelby did vocal coaching that was better than Will's (Mercedes: "Shelby's a great teacher, I'm hitting notes I didn't even know existed.") Santana also pushed through a majorly distressing event (outing) to perform and used that pain to lift the performance (RHI/SLY).
School musicals. Santana has roles in three different school musicals. The only one she doesn't participate in is Cabaret, but that is just a sham to get Rach away from the New Directions. In season two she plays two different characters in Rocky Horror, she's double cast as Magenta (a supporting character) with Quinn, and she plays the lips (this is a mistake on the show's part, the lips are Riff Raff's actor in the movie, but on stage this song is performed by a character named Trixie the Usherette who does a reprise of the song at the end). In West Side Story she plays Anita. Finally in Grease she plays Rizzo, it's worth noting that she gets the role with very little notice and still (from what little we see) nails it.
Jobs. Throughout highschool Santana doesn't seem to have any part time employment, but that's the case for most characters. While she's at Louisville she doesn't need to get a job since she got a scholarship and a bunch of money from her mom. I mentioned previously that she almost got a job as cheerios coach. Once she moves to New York in season 4 she works a shit ton of jobs, like a ridiculous amount. She's a bouncer, a cage dancer, she works at the Coyote Ugly Saloon Bar, she's a waitress, a reoccurring actor for Yeast-I-Stat, Fanny Brice understudy, Rachel's publicist, back up singer (and maybe dancer?) for Mercedes which includes touring with her, and she is an active member of Pamela Lansbury before she and Rachel are kicked out.
Even ignoring the jobs that were just word of mouth, she had five jobs, that's more than any other character in the show, and we unfortunately never find out what she ends up doing.
In season 4 after a push from her friends she takes on NYADA extension classes.
Also relevant, in season 4 she drops out of college. This isn't because she's "too lazy", it's because of the environment. She didn't gel with her fellow students, there's no mention of the work being too much, it's purely that the other cheerleaders don't respond well to her. Her "brutal honesty" or whatever, still not a reflection of her work ethic, just her lack of tact (to put it lightly). Also worth mentioning, the two times we see her at Louisville she is clearly working hard. She can't talk to Britt because she's too busy, and in the scene where that Virginia Wolfe girl eyes her up she's in the library studying. In Jagged Little Tapestry (6x03) Santana tells Brittany that she would like to go back to college, unfortunately we never see if this comes to fruition.
Volunteering. Santana is also the character who volunteers the most. In Silly Love Songs (2x12) she says that she often volunteers at the hospital which is where she got the candy striper outfit. Two episode earlier in A Very Glee Christmas (2x10) the glee girls are going to sell their hair, Santana is the one to tell the others to "stop yapping" and just do it and is just a about to cut off her hair when Will stops them, so clearly she was willing to do it. The next Christmas Santana joins Sam and Quinn at the homeless shelter with the other New Directions after the tv special (kinda goes against her prior eagerness to help out, but makes sense since fame is her mistress). In Lights Out (4x20) she joins Rachel and Kurt volunteering at the Ballet Gala. Admittedly here it's takes a push and she only goes after being offered dresses.
Mentoring. From season four the ND alumni often come back to mentor the newbies or just to help out in general. Santana comes back in Glease (4x06), Thanksgiving (4x08), Diva (4x13), All or Nothing (4x21), 100/New Directions (5x12, 5x13), Homecoming (6x02), and Jagged Little Tapestry (6x03). (I'm not including The Breakup or The Quarterback because she came back for emotional reasons.)
Knowing all of this about her shows how hardworking and passionate Santana is. She is constantly working at something. She has her down time (watching Facts of Life, scrolling Rizzoli & Isles lesbian subtext blogs), but that seems few and far between when knowing just how much she works. It can also be inferred that she is a good student at WMHS, seeing as she got the scholarship to Louisville and they probably wouldn't accept her on just cheerleading merit alone, and she is seen multiple times with her books open, studying. (Pot O' Gold and Saturday Night Glee-ver come to mind). We also know that she cares about her education because she reported Will for being a sub par teacher in The Spanish Teacher (3x12).
Along with everything I just mentioned, Santana also takes it upon herself to do side quests when she wants something. She is so determined to prove that Quinn and Finn are having an affair that she gives herself mono (she's immune apparently, but still). She also goes full spy to take down Sebastian, and to take down Brody. With everything else she does and the effort she puts into random situations to do with her friends she must be goddamn exhausted.
Something I must bring up is related to her being Rachel's understudy. But first another disclaimer: I don't want this post to become a discussion on who was in the right in the situation, both women did bad things, that is not what this post is about. I only bring it up because it is the plot where this line is said, therefore some parts a relevant.
Santana only gets the idea to audition for the understudy role as Rachel leaves to go judge the auditions. We do not know exactly how much time passes in between but it's presumably only a few hours at most. This means that Santana had to memorise the song, change the key and structure by herself, and choreograph the number in a few hours. That shows dedication. Later on in The Back-Up Plan (5x18) Santana goes on in place of Rachel to try and save her friends job. Again she has very little time to prepare to play the role as the show is that night, and hasn't been the understudy for approximately a good few months. We don't see her perform but Rach herself says she was really good. It's unfortunate that we never see Santana get any opportunities come from this, but it's Glee so I digress.
In conclusion (I feel like I'm back in highschool lol), Santana Lopez has many flaws and there are many valid reasons to criticise her, her work ethic is not one. Santana is shown to be an extremely hard working and dedicated character who aims high and will put in the work to get what she wants, she won't let other people get in her way. She can be her own worst enemy and can get into a slump when she can't see a direction to go in, but she always pushes through. I think it's cowardly that the show not only decided that she was the sole offender of the Understudy Situation, but also shunted her with a negative descriptor that is in complete opposition to what we know of her. Despite also saying cruel things during the understudy plot line Rachel gets away with not apologising, and then lets Santana insult herself. It's an unfortunate result and complete character assassination for Santana and shows how little the writers care for her. It also destroys the friendship that Pezberry developed up until that point. Santana is not the only character to be described in a negative way even when the rest of the show doesn't represent that, Mercedes Jones gets this treatment even worse and more often. I do have a discussion about her in my drafts, hopefully I'll finish it one day. It sucks that two of the most versatile and skilled characters in Glee are constantly said to not be enough.
Santana Lopez is not lazy.

The Crow Reboot Rant
Tumblr media
NAH NAH NAH, WHOSE IDEA WAS IT TO MAKE ERIC DRAVEN LOOK LIKE A DISCOUNT VERSION OF JARED LETTO'S JOKER?!? IMMA THROW HANDS!!! 💀🔪
There's just so much wrong about this reboot and as a fan of the original crow movie and graphic novel I cannot even begin to express how much this disappoints me.
More to rant ahead, just know it's hella long.
I recently saw and heard more news about the crow reboot and upon seeing what to expect I no longer have any interest in watching the reboot, in fact I wish the fans continue to roast the hell out of it to show the people in charge of this reboot that this is NOT what the people want or need.
Now I just want to go on and say that I have no problems with Bill Skarsgard as Eric Draven. I think he's a hella great actor with lots of potential of doing a great job at being the next crow actor, but my issue is with the writers and the people who made the overall decision to make this cult classic "appeal to modern audiences" which that quote alone was enough for me to completely abandon all hope of this movie being any good. I was already skeptical enough about the reboot and my expectations were low but THIS...this definitely made my expectations drop even lower than they already were and that's surprising to me. Honestly at this point the three crow sequels were a lot better and that's saying a lot because if y'all have seen those you'll know they weren't that good either but at least they were entertaining. 😭 (In my opinion at least, feel free to disagree on that).
It gets even better when you find out that the inspiration for reboot crow was Post Malone and Lil Peep. 💀
Like...is that what appeals to modern audiences nowadays? Was that really necessary for modern day Eric Draven? Absolutely not! The original movie and comic took place in the 90's so LEAVE IT IN THE 90's! Not everything has to be modernized for the sake of appealing to modern audiences. What modern audiences need right now are original stories with good and compelling writing (which probably won't happen any time soon since Hollywood proved to be in the middle of an imagination drought).
Sure, one can argue that the original movie wasn't completely faithful to the source material, that being the graphic novel. However, Due to the unfortunate passing of Brandon Lee during the making of the film, James O 'Barr has stated that he had finished the film as a tribute to Brandon who was a sweet and caring man and so decided to write Eric Draven to have some resemblance to Brandon in the film as a way to honor him. With that in mind, it's no wonder people are much harsher about the reboot, myself included, and find that this reboot would be an insult to not only James O 'Barr but also to Brandon. (Those who know the tragic history of The Crow graphic novel would understand why that's the case but in short it was a way for James to deal with grief).
In my opinion, the original crow film does not need a reboot or a remake. It may not be the best or perfect movie in the world but it is a cult classic and is one of the most beloved movies that holds a dear place in people's hearts. Mine included. Which is why instead of making another movie based on Brandon Lee's crow, that the other crow characters get a shot at the big screen since Eric Draven isn't the only one who gets brought back to life by a crow. I can understand how this might potentially not gain enough traction because it's not the iconic Eric Draven, but I do believe that with good writing and loyalty to the source materials, that it can be very possible to make a good and fresh crow movie without piggy backing off of an already beloved and successful film with the help of the fans who most likely have read the other comics.
In my opinion, I don't think this reboot is worth anyone's time (at least for those who are hardcore fans of the Crow franchise) and I have no hope for this whatsoever. In fact, I'm gonna go rewatch the original movie for the millionth time and reread the original graphic novel because I've already accepted the fact that any potential of getting a good crow movie is officially out the window. Not only that but the book and film are my comfort watch and reads so there's that.
For anyone who wants to hear more details about the reboot I recommend looking up articles or watch videos about it on youtube since that's where I heard the majority of the news.
Tumblr media
Brandon Lee will forever be the best Eric Draven out there, may he rest in peace.

Guess who finished Catching Fire and is ready to rant again! It's me! This is Part 2 of THIS post! So, here is some of my favorite Peeta Mellark moments from Catching Fire!
Tumblr media
Book 2
Favorite: Okay, there are so many favorites. Catching Fire is my favorite book and Peeta is my favorite character so you can imagine that I'm having a tough time picking just one favorite. I think, though, that the scene that sticks out for me the most as my favorite Peeta moment is the one on the beach where he gives Katniss the locket. The fact that he uses his token as a gift for her is just so gentle and so sweet. And I love that he doesn't do it for any sort of pay back or manipulation. He just genuinely loves her and wants to keep her safe. It is also, I think, one of the defining moments for Katniss where she realizes she has feelings for him (in as much as Katniss is able to address those emotions with everything going on). Also, I am adding the scene with the pearl on to this because that just adds to the overall cuteness and generosity that is just Peeta in a nutshell.
Underrated: Okay, many underrated moments. First of all, the painting of Rue. The lead up to this scene is Katniss and Peeta having a conversation about how they are going to kill all of the other Tributes now that they have gotten to know them. Peeta takes Katniss's hands and leans his forehead on them, which in and of itself is just so sweet. And he brings up about how unfair it is that they have to kill anyone. They get on the subject of Rue and it clicks in his mind what he wants his talent showcase to be. He then basically gives the finger to the Capitol by holding them accountable for killing someone so innocent and young and good all while honoring Rue and the other innocent children who have been forced into the games. And he's so sincere about it and when he and Katniss get in trouble with Haymitch and Effie for what they've done in their private sessions, he refuses to back down from it and says he's glad he did it. It's just such an amazing scene that showcases Peeta is just as angry at the Capitol and is just as capable at making a statement.
A few more underrated moments that I won't go on quite as long of a rant about are: him defending Gale at the whipping post, making bread and cookies for Katniss's family, him carrying Katniss princess style up and down the stairs after she hurts her heel and tailbone, and all those soft moments between him and Katniss when they comfort each other. One such moment being after the jabber jay hour where he presses his hand and forehead against the barrier in an attempt to be there for Katniss and then cradling her and reassuring her that her family is safe (and therefore also comforting Finnick who is listening intently and also needs reassurance).
Sweetest: Okay, again I have more than one. One of the sweetest moments (that is also underrated) is the scene between him and Katniss on the rooftop of the Tribute Center the day before interviews. The softness of him sketching her and saying that he's practicing his knot tying when he's really just stroking her hair. And every time they work on the book of plants and he's so methodical about it and Katniss just enjoys watching him work (same girl).
But two other moment that I love so much are ones that I'm not sure if I would categorize as sweet, but more as moving. When he gives the money to Rue and Thresh's families in 11 and the scene where he comforts the Morphling. The scene in District 11 is just so heart wrenching and Katniss's speech after just had me in tears. I always sob during that scene. However, this time I was caught off guard by how affected I was my the Morphling scene. If you want my full rant about that scene you can find that here!
Funniest: Okay, this is both funny, sweet, and makes me cry. The line: "careful, there's a force-field up there." Iconic. Also, him and Haymitch and Prim just covering for Katniss when she's almost caught outside the fence isn't necessarily funny, but the image of him and Haymitch playing chess and throwing around sweets to each other and Prim makes me smile.
Badass: The freaking baby bomb. Talk about iconic. Talk about badass. I love that everyone is trying really hard to get the Games cancelled or at least play into how unpopular they are and cause disruption, and they're all doing really well. However, as much as they add kindling to the fire they don't quite light it. And then comes Peeta with his "if it weren't for the baby" and he doesn't just light the fire, he freaking blows it up. And he's so freaking smart about it and does it in such a perfect way where everyone in the Capitol is losing their collective minds and there are whole riots in the streets and all because Peeta was like "I've got an idea." Also, the fact that it helps with sponsors and gives an excuse for any sort of emotional meltdown that Katniss is experiencing while Snow purposefully targets her and tries to make her look weak just adds to the genius of it. I also love how the minute they get back to their floor Peeta is like "before you say anything, is there anything I need to apologize for?" And Katniss is like "No, you're amazing." Like is genuinely sorry for telling her beforehand because they agreed on being completely honest with each other, but Katniss is just in awe of how brilliant he is and is grateful that she didn't have to overthink anything given she already had enough on her plate. It just shows a) how brilliant Peeta is and b) how great of a power couple they are that together they not only cover each aspect of the Game, but make each other better.

Omg thank you so much for the Twst matchup!! It was so cute! 💕 I'm also astonished at how fast you guys work while still providing quality matchups! It's quite awesome! 😊❤ you guys are officially my favorite matchup blog, don't tell anyone I said that, hehe 🤭
I hope it isn't too much to ask for, but may I please request a 🐇💮 matchup for Genshin Impact this time? I don't want to overwhelm either of you so if you're already too busy, feel free to put a hold on my request :>
I'm a straight, scorpio girl that goes by she/her!
Personality: I'm highly introverted, but am friendly, polite, considerate, understanding and approachable! I'm rather on the private side, so I tend not to say much or really open up easily, but I'm always willing to lend a hand to anyone. I regretfully consider myself to be a people-pleaser at times :'D I have trust issues so it takes me A LONG WHILE to open up. Though, when I do, I'm silly and affectionate! I enjoy cracking jokes with people I'm close to! And although I'm not really into PDA, I will be terribly affectionate with my s/o in private, often kissing them or doing silly things such as dance my fingers on their skin lol. I also tend to be sensitive and take things seriously and wholeheartedly. On the flip side, I can be stubborn, short-tempered, and very self-critical. I'm often hard on myself, but I just think it's necessary for the sake of improvement! I make it a point to do things thoroughly and well-thought out!
Likes: Singing! Especially singing soft jazz or slow lovesongs! (I wouldn't mind singing them to my s/o, despite how cheesy it may sound hehe). I love watching the sunset and ocean as well!
Dislikes: rude, insincere, condescending people. People who don't take things seriously tend to irritate me.
Again, thank you so much! You guys are the best 🥰
🐇💮 | We've decided to match you with...
Tumblr media
♡ Albedo is quite the introverted type as well! He also prefers more affection in private, secluded areas rather than more open and public places. But if you ever want a kiss/hug from him, he will gladly deliver.
♡ He enjoys all the affection, even if it isn't evident on his face sometimes. His favorite thing is being in Dragonspine and just sitting with you in front of a fire. If you'd like him to, he could tell you stories about some experiments of his that didn't go all too well.
♡ Albedo is a very good listener, and when he has it, he'll give amazing advice. He's ways there for you, so feel free to rant/spill your heart out to him. Even if you aren't comfortable talking with him, he'll do little acts of service to make you feel better.
♡ One of his personal favorite things to do whenever you're having a bad day, is to draw little doodles on a sticky note and put inspirational quotes on them. He places them around your house!
♡ He always understands your jokes, but the most you'll get out of him is a chuckle and a peck on the cheek.
♡ Whenever you get upset, he always knows exactly what you need. Most of the time he'll attempt to calm you down first, communication is key, after all. If that doesn't work, he'll leave you alone for a bit. You can even rant to him as he let's you play with his hair. He doesn't mind at all!
♡ Albedo encourages you to work hard, but he can also tell when enough is enough. He'll make sure you take care of yourself. On his days off, he likes to get up before you and make you your favorite food for breakfast!
♡ Definitely enjoys it whenever you sing to him. Maybe with a bit of convincing, he'll even join you. Sometimes when he's painting, he'll be humming with you singing right next to him. It even helps him focus!
♡ Since you're always there to help him out, he actually enjoys returning the favor. He'll run errands with you, and you can drag him around anywhere you want. He'll follow you around with a small smile and a look that's filled with nothing but sweet adoration for you.
The Other Choice(s):
Kazuha: He's a free spirited person who can get serious if absolutely necessary. He'll compose little love poems for you and place them around the house--in return for you to keep singing to him. He enjoys your voice!
Tighnari: He likes to take you around the more safer parts of the forest. You'll be watching the sunset from a hill together. He'll even let you pet his ears of you really want to. Anything for you.
.・゜゜・.・゜゜・.・゜゜・.・゜゜・.・゜゜・.・゜゜
A/n: Ehe don't worry we won't tell anyone! Thank you for requesting again, it's nice to know that people are enjoying our matchups. ^^ Feel free to send an ask if this one isn't to your liking. We hope you have a nice day :>

i’m sorry but the last anon is kinda right, i have an ex who was alcoholic and idk why but seeing that bottle today was really triggering for me because it shows that louis really does have an addiction like who drinks vodka at the rehearsals :(
i obviously don’t blame him, i think it’s his coping mechanism with the shit that’s going on but it’s very sad to see him going down that patch, always drinking, going to the bars everyday and drink so much that he has a “hangover from hell” the next morning, that beer he had during interview with zach sang like why couldn’t he wait until he’s done to drink that beer? i don’t even remember when the last time we saw him sober. anyways, i just hope he knows what he’s doing and so sorry for ranting, i just feel this on personal level :(
I'm sorry for your ex and for you, addiction like all mental illnesses takes a toll not only on the victim but also those around him. I hope both you and that person are happier now!
also I'd like to remind everyone that addiction, like all mental illnesses, can come in many forms, just bc you don't see someone drink when they're with you it doesn't mean they don't have a problem or just bc someone isn't explicitly suicidal and depressed it doesn't mean they aren't going through that internally, and also we can't exactly diagnose anyone without
1- appropriate training
2- talking to them directly
so we can speculate here and I'm happy to talk about these topics in a general way bc I think it's a necessary and constructive conversation to have since evidently many people like that past anon, still see addiction as a choice someone makes and its victims as culprits rather than victims which is the same rethoric politicians use to push back policies to help addicts and discredit mental health in general.
having said that, the behavior you described isn't necessarily addiction, necessary criteria for substance abuse disorder are tolerance (the drug's positive effects slowly decrease forcing you to take higher and higher doses) and withdrawal symptoms if the drug is not consumed, and we don't know if louis experiences that or not (we really don't know for cigarettes either, i think he's shown more worrying behavior with cigarettes than alcohol but it's just my observation not a diagnosis) , with liam we speak about addiction bc he himself told us which is different
anyways, diagnosis or not, recovery or not, seeing someone you love suffer is never nice and it can be very frustrating at times bc u watch someone being essentially destroyed by something and you can't do anything about it! but I think we can't let our frustration and sadness turn into anger towards that person bc it will only make things worse for us and for them. we can only help and support them in their recovery (if we actually know them in person )

I've heard a lot about how not reading theory is a sh*tty idea, but I don't actually know what "theory" to be reading. I can't exactly buy myself a copy of The Communist Manifesto right now, and I don't know where to find anything free, online, and actually understandable by somebody who hasn't got, like, a degree in this kind of stuff. Do you have any suggestions?
hey that’s perfectly fine!  here’s the Manifesto http://www.slp.org/pdf/marx/comm_man.pdf
first up: we’re leftists. any theory you ever want to read is online FOR FREE. because that’s the point yea?
you’ve got marxists.org and theanarchistlibrary.org for basically any theory you’d ever want to read. libgen also has a lot if you can’t find it on those two.
if audio can be easier for you, I highly recommend LunaOi who has great intro videos to theory. I’d actually watch that linked video before diving in, to get an explainer about some of the core ideas.
there’s also Hakim who even did a list of intro works if you really want to get into it. both of these creators are non-Western communists and both provide insight into how simple or difficult their recommendations are to read. Luna is even in the process of translating Vietnam’s dialectical materialism textbook into English for us!
(if you want anything more specific please let me know, the final thoughts part is specific recommendations on the assumption you’re American.)
second up: DO NOT EXPECT TO UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING THE FIRST READ. no matter the flavor, theory does require study. some things will make sense first read, a bunch of others won’t click until you’ve researched around more. if something doesn’t make sense on your first pass, it’s perfectly fine! did you understand physics or trigonometry the first class you had it? no.
third up: you don’t need a hyperspecific label, and you will go much farther by reading/understanding a wide range of leftist history. this point could be its own entire rant so I’ll keep it to a personal example: I call myself a communist because my end goal is a stateless, classless society where everyone is taken care of (like anarchism's) but I believe we need a transitory proletarian state to make sure that goal isn't overtaken by corporatists and fascists. that’s it. my politics are influenced by my desire to make people’s lives safer and better.
final thoughts: don’t stop at European leftists. Frantz Fanon can be difficult to get through, but his Wretched of the Earth is a dissection of colonialism and a proof that the colonized have every right to resist their oppressors by any means necessary.
Fanon is an absolute must-read for anyone who considers themself to be anti-imperialist or anti-colonial. Any leftist from anarchist to socialist should at least know and understand who Fanon is. here’s an intro vid. and a link to the Concerning Violence documentary.
Angela Davis gets tapped for Are Prisons Obsolete, along with numerous other interviews and writings throughout her time with the CPUSA and beyond it.
Unironically read and listen to MLK’s full speeches to see why he’s been sanitized to the American Public.
Study the Black Panther Party and the methods they employed through their 10 Point Program & leaders like Chairman Fred Hampton. Their history intersects with other liberation groups like Yellow Peril and the American Indian Movement during the wider Civil Rights Movement.
Hammer and Hoe is a great book about the black Alabama Communist Party’s fight against white supremacy in the South, and the international socialism that supported black radicalism.
**IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN THE US: apply this to your own history. find out what the liberation movements in your country were, find out who the sanitized radicals are, find out how your history intersects with colonialism/imperialism.**

honestly the villains of CoD are so cool, i love getting my gremlin hands on them and fleshing out how much potential they have
They really are. It's a lot of fun to pick through each of them and figure out where the pieces of their life fall.
My personal favorite part about villains is being able to track their philosophy. Yeah, some people are born a little more rotten than others (I'm looking at you, kid who stepped on my neck), but ultimately, no one is really born evil. What makes a good villain to me is being able to follow their story and see how they got to where they are.
And COD is one of those games that shows some of that, albeit rather small.
Here we go on a rant.
The most obvious and upfront is Menendez and just general history. Mixed with his god complex and shitty upbringing, it's no wonder he thought he was invincible and started to get careless towards the end of his life.
Barkov's story is honestly almost sad, similar to Menendez. He has a reading disability, which put him in a position where he was shoved around a lot as a kid. He wanted to know what it felt like to finally feel strong and stand up for himself. And then he got into the military and saw just what kind of power weapons could give a person. It all went to his head, and he craved for more and more power until he too had a god complex and thought he was invincible.
Then you have Corvus, who I wouldn't exactly say is the primary villain even though it is. It was dying in its new host (Player, who was also dying) and tried to save Player by doing the only thing it knows how to do: attack the mind and find a sense of peace for both of them (aka the Frozen Forest). It also wanted to know what its purpose was in the world, only to be told by its creator it was a mistake find out from its creator it was a mistake. Out of devastation, it lashed out and made everything worse by repeatedly attacking and invading the Player's mind until it was purged.
Perseus isn't as obvious but he's interesting given his age. He's over 40 for sure, and I assume he's in his 60s. So what makes him interesting is that he was around in WWII, when Russia was in its all-time high. War makes money, and the USSR had money flowing. Everyone wanted a good fight, and if that meant chasing Germans out of their motherland, so be it. So when the war ended, suddenly Perseus watched as all of that "fight or die" mentality turned into a bit of a wishy-washy mindset. Which is why he wanted to collapse the west. New war would start, and the good old days would be back.
Makarov is an interesting case. I can only assume he had a more aggressive personality and a bit of a God Complex himself. Similar to Perseus, he didn't like how Russia was stepping down in 1989 (when he was on the Berlin Wall), which made him want to do something about bringing the old Russia he's seen in history books back (he probably had a father who said the same things as Perseus). Two tours where he was allowed to mass murder with few repercussions and he said "I'm gonna make this my career, I love this."
Irman Zakhaev is a bit like Perseus but with the other half of the century. To him, it's about preserving a self-sustaining nation that can brag about just how strong it is on itself (spoiler, if anyone knows about global politics, this doesn't work. World trade is necessary to keep money flowing in and out).
Victor Zakhaev loved and feared his father, and followed in his footsteps because he didn't really try anything else. There's not much about him except that he's being driven by craving for approval from his father.
Shepherd, I talked about in depth, but in summary he was a decent guy (albeit, arrogant) who got handed poor cards. It's clear he grew up in a military family (which makes sense since he's probably also around 60 in MW2, which puts him born in the late 1950s-60s) and has a warped idea on what makes a hero. More than that, he sees his men as unique individuals, which is why the fact that 30K people only became a single statistic really upset him. Yeah, he does help start WWIII by sacrificing a person, but so does every other villain regardless if they're in the same universe or not.
The other games I haven't really watched nor finished so I can't speak much more than that. Or I'm forgetting someone.
The few that don't have as much of an impression or a traceable background are as follows.
Adler... honestly is the more sadistic version of Shepherd. He sees the people he uses as unique tools for his personal purposes. But because there's no background information him except that Stansfield was his best friend in CODM, there's not much to trace.
Al-Asad doesn't have much about him outside that he really hated Al-Fulani and Zakhaev promised to yeet the guy from existence so Al-Asad can take over. Basically just another coup. Not much more about his psychology.
And then there's Rorke who got brainwashed. I can't even come up with much to say about him because it's hard to determine what's his brainwashing and what's his general personality.

It's Gonna Be Me (Part 1)
Gender: Female
Pairing: Peter Parker x reader
Warning: A bit angsty. Not too much though
This starts off as basic as possible, but I swear it gets better soon lol...
Hope you like it!!!
---------------------------------------
Tumblr media
You might been hurt, babe, that ain't no lie
You've seen them all come and go
I remember you told me, that it made you believe in no man, no cry
Maybe that's why
~~~~~~~~~
Peter Parker knew a lot about hopelessly waiting.
Years ago, he'd hopelessly waited to not be the helpless, lanky nerd of the school anymore. That's when the spider came.
Months after the blip, he'd waited for any luck with MJ. That's when the Europe trip happened.
It seemed that every time he'd hopelessly wait for something, he'd always come to find out that maybe the situation wasn't so hopeless after all.
Which was why this particular situation bothered him. Because this one really was hopeless.
It'd always start the same.
"[Y/N]- hey, what's wrong?," Peter asked, furrowing his eyebrows, though he already knew the answer. At this point, the entire school knew the answer.
It had actually lasted longer than Peter had expected. But what mattered now is that his best friend was at his doorstep and in tears.
"Timothy was cheating on me, Pete. H-he doesn't love me... I'm so stupid."
"C'mon, come in." He ushered her to the livingroom. They sat on the couch. "It's not your fault, [Y/N]. Don't blame yourself for his crap."
Tears flowed freely down her cheeks. He hated to see her cry.
"Why do I always pick the bad ones?," she wept softly.
Peter pulled her into a tight hug, giving his friend the best comfort that he could give. He softly told her a rendition of what he said each time something like this would happen.
"[Y/N], listen. You are beautiful. Any guy would be lucky to have someone as smart and as loyal and as funny as you -And Timothy? Screw him. He doesn't deserve you. What matters is that you have MJ, Ned- heck, even Aunt May..."
He let her go, looking away as a blush crept onto his face. "A-a-and me..." He looked back at her, with a boyish smirk on his face.
She smiled back softly. "Thanks Pete." At that, she went in for a hug. "You're the best friend a girl could ask for..."
They sat for a while. She cried on his shoulder. She ranted. He gave consoling words. She spent the night on his couch.
This wasn't the first time this had happened. In fact, her tears that night weren't even a drop in the bucket compared to others.
[Y/N] had always had bad luck with guys.
She'd had her heart broken more times than she could count.
And Peter was always right there by her side, waiting to console her. Every time.
Every. Damn. Time.
And frankly, he was sick of it.
"What's wrong, bud?," Ned asked the next day at school.
"Nothing," Peter mumbled, staring death glares into the lines on his desk.
"Let me guess..[Y/N] found out about Tim?"
Peter blew out a sigh. "Yeah."
"I feel bad for her," Ned said. "I mean, has she ever really had a relationship that's lasted longer than a month?"
Peter twisted his mouth in distress and scratched the back of his head. "Uh, I think maybe when she was with Hank... -yeah that one lasted a bit longer."
"What happened to that one anyway?"
Peter rolled his eyes, clenching his fists. "They were going good up until he stood her up for prom last year."
He thought back to what [Y/N] had cried that night.
'Why do I always pick the bad ones?'
He clenched his jaw. 'Yeah.. why do you?'
Ned's eyes went wide. "Wow. She's really got bad luck doesn't she?"
Peter went silent as he attempted to watch the smartboard in front of him and Ned immediately knew to be quiet. He knew he wouldn't be able to focus but it would still beat having this conversation.
Still, there was only one thought that was stuck in Peter's mind as he held his pencil so tight that he could feel it ready to snap.
'She wouldn't if she had me...'
-
"Okay guys, [Y/N]'s in the lunch line getting her food," MJ announced to the table that afternoon. "And we all know she just found out about Timothy so- you know, when she gets here..try not to be.. yourselves."
Ned nearly spat his food out. "What?!"
Peter swung his head around.
"Come on guys." MJ rolled her eyes. "You both- especially you Ned- you guys have a habit of making insensitive jokes and not realizing until it's too late."
She gave them the meanest death glare, but Peter wasn't having it. "Says you Miss. 'I Like It When People Are Sad'."
MJ scoffed. "Not my friends, weirdo."
"Shh! She's coming!," Ned whisper-shouted.
They watched as their friend [Y/N] walked up to the lunch table. But something was different from the last times.
She didn't look like she had been crying. She wore her regular clothes, not something that looked thrown together. Her mascara was perfect and not running at all. She looked like she hadn't been cheated on at all.
She looked good.
[Y/N] dropped her plate onto the table. "Okay, attention guys!"
"You feeling okay, [Y/N]?," Peter asked, concerned. "I know last night-"
"Last night is over, Pete," she said proudly. "And I am now here to announce that I am officially done with guys!" She stuck her chin up dramatically high.
Evidently, she had yelled that too loudly, because Flash, from another table, quickly yelled out," Yo, [Y/L/N]'s going lez!"
The majority of the lunchroom turned to her.
"What? No," she laughed back. "Not what I meant, Flash..."
He looked her up and down, biting his lip. "So does that mean...?"
"Okay shut up, dickhead," MJ yelled, standing up. "Back to your food, people. Nothing to see here!"
[Y/N] turned back towards the table and composed herself before speaking again. "Anyway, so yeah, I'm done with guys," she said with a big smile on her face.
MJ looked to [Y/N], Ned, Peter, and then back to [Y/N].
This was a problem. A big one. Because MJ knew that a simple fact. Peter liked [Y/N]. Anyone with a brain could figure that out.
"What do you mean?," Ned asked. "Does that mean Peter and I have to leave?"
[Y/N] laughed. "Haha! No, Ned. Of course not!" She lowered her chin a bit. "I'm just sick of getting hurt, ya know? There's only so much heartbreak a girl can take..." She sadly chuckled a little.
MJ furrowed her eyebrows. She looked to Peter, who held a lost expression on his face. "What do you think, Pete?"
Suddenly breaking out of his trance, he started to speak. "U-uh, um, maybe y-your going about this the wrong way, [Y-Y/N]?" He ran his fingers through his hair. "I-I mean..." He looked away. "There are lots of great guys out there who w-would.. kill to have you, [Y/N]."
Obviously, [Y/N] didn't pick up what the young superhero was attempting to put down. She rolled her eyes. "Well, my stuttery friend, until those 'great' guys make themselves known, I'm done."
Peter shrunk into himself, looking anywhere but [Y/N]'s face. "Y-yeah..I guess."
MJ scoffed. Was this really going over [Y/N]'s head? Her and Peter didn't work out but she could still admit, he was a great guy that deserved a chance. That's why they stayed friends afterward. "Isn't this a little extreme, [Y/N]?"
"Not extreme at all," [Y/N] clucked her tongue. "Just necessary."
Suddenly and frantically, Peter stood and practically ran to the trash can to throw away his food and leave.
"What's his deal?," [Y/N] asked, popping some gum into her mouth.
"Seriously?" MJ's face was incredulous. "Learn to read a room, man..."
Since I rant enough about the wizening Ma and Pa received in Sinnoh it's only right to wreak bloody rhetorical vengeance elsewhere:
However harsh it may be, I'm glad Takeshi Shudo isn't alive to witness the hateful desecration of his legacy.
...
In a universe where no one's allowed to age, why are the modern Jessie and James so withered and decrepit?
Dragon Ball has been on for more than three decades. Its stars were permitted to grow up, because the head can cope with the opportunities this offers.
Yet Goku, Krillin, Bulma et al bear a greater similarity to their younger selves than these gurning invertebrates do to Team Rocket, wearing a papery approximation of their skin.
Akira Toriyama is actually concerned about his life's work, still coming up with interesting concepts, brand-new characters, and most importantly, values his audience by keeping to the established canon.
If a Dragon Ball fan reads this, I am so jealous of you.
Consider yourselves fortunate not to have seen the thing you loved the most pulverised and the resulting glutinous mass moulded back into makeshift sloppy cadavers.
Look at the state of that man! That's a good picture these days!
Why have the eyelid lines turned into upside down bags?
And why has she collected her lashes for this particular screen shot?
On eyes with a strangely feline slant...
Has she had a face lift?
Get yer money back on that one, love.
And why has he marks under his eyes and round his flapping gob to add the hint of exhaustion?
And why don't her lips reach the edge of her mouth anymore?
And why must he display Beaver Toof, as if he's only got six pegs left?
Giving it to him but not her implies she's lost the lot, needing to gum objects for a result.
And why do her low-slung ears consist only of lobe?
And why can you see his featureless lugs? Why does his barnet stand outwards in tentacles like he's taken to wearing a floppy Starmie?
What's that's meant to be, purple dreadlocks?
And why is her hairline curved and absolutely straight, like a bad wig, apart from the perfunctory bits to the side, which I guarantee won't alter their position throughout the run?
Hair used to move about, now by law there's a set pattern which cannot change. Stamp that life out immediately.
And what's that flaccid growth between his weary peepers? Is that meant to be fringe?
PFFFT!!!
And why are her digits just as thick and oblong as his?
It ain't fingers. It's trotters.
And why's he got a back to his throat, but she hasn't?
And why are we forced to witness it? You can see all the way to his dangler!
The great gaping pink cave looks like the end of Looney Tunes when Porky Pig pops up and stammers: "That's all folks!"
Remember a lack of Beaver Toof? And triangular mouths?
Remember when Meowth was a cheeky, spirited little cat, not a middle-aged human midget, an emaciated wreck bored of it all?
Remember when it wasn't deemed necessary to expose us to internal organs?
And when James was a handsome, hysterically camp dandy, not a creepy, snot-ridden science dweeb?
And when Jessie was a beautiful, stylish young girl, hot-tempered but loyal, not a sullen, cold, reptilian, Botoxed-to-the-gills gorgon?
Remember when Team Rocket were fun? And attractive?
Remember when they had joy in their hearts in spite of their poverty? And vim? And hope?
Remember them acting with flair and imagination?
Remember when their schemes had variety?
Remember when they had more than a single disguise per era?
Remember when they had many occupations? And were good at them?
Remember when they'd have a go at everything and weren't reduced to flipping condemned meat in a grotty burger van FOR THREE YEARS?!
Remember when those in charge didn't despise them, when they got happy endings?
Remember split screens? And face faults? And background tones? And purple streaks down your cheeks?
Remember big, bright open eyes, not shrunken, sagging and empty holes afflicted by glaucoma?
Remember when Jessie had eyelashes?
Remember when Pokémon was an anime?
And when James had a fringe, not a bent swelling like a balloon animal?
And when the artist could be arsed to draw Meowth's Charm properly?
Remember when the voices weren't nails down a blackboard?
When Meowth didn't sound like a wedge of coal grinding beneath an oil-deprived door?
When Jessie's dulcet tones had a wider range that just screechy, and weren't reminiscent of a cacophonous banshee clawing her way from a bog, using her own mug as a shovel?
When James speaking didn't suggest he was at best, suffering sinus difficulties, and at worst, constantly battling to swallow his own sick from looking at her?
Mind you, I'm grateful the 4Kids cast are no longer here. They deserve better, and their presence would only validate the crude bastardisations.
Every time the guttural howls reach my poor ears a chill runs through my system, and reminds me of The Pokémon Company sacking the real dub crew in preference for a job done on the cheap.
Remember speed lines? And Pokéball-throwing animation?
Remember a new motto performance in each installment, not the same stock footage reused again and again?
Remember when it rhymed?
It shows.
Remember remembering it?
Remember when Team Rocket would walk down the street in their uniforms and no one took a blind bit of notice despite the organisation operating there?
And they didn't fanny about in one scabby polyester costume every minute they were travelling, even when NO ONE KNOWS WHO THEY ARE?
Since Unova, whilst confronting Ash and this era's soon-to-be-forgotten companions, you get this exchange:
Moron-Of-The-Week: "Who are Team Rocket?"
Ash: "They're bad guys who steal other people's Pokémon."
EVERY SINGLE BLOODY TIME!!!
WORD-FOR-WORD IDENTICAL!!!
The writers have such deep appreciation for their work they're sending in cut-and-paste scripts.
Remember blasting off when something blew up, not an explosion from nowhere, or giving it the slip with a jet pack, or abduction by a Care Bear?
Remember when the eyebrows matched the hair?
Remember when he wore it long?
Remember blue shock? And sweat drop? And hammerspace? And comedy violence?
Remember her jagged hairline? And it being RED!!!
Remember proper highlights to it, rather than the odd white lump now and again, as if sweating like a pig, or their heads are infested with giant space ticks?
Remember when they were in all the episodes? And were main characters? And on the introduction sequence?
Remember when Jessie and James used to hug? And hold hands?
And bicker as only a couple can, but you knew they'd never cope alone?
Remember when they'd fly into each other's arms under the flimsiest pretext?
Remember when they meant more to one another than just being a pair of unconnected and disembodied wraiths coincidentally walking down the same road?
And they had more than civil interactions?
Remember when she loved him as much as he loved her?
And no one else could ever take his place?
And canon wasn't infected with the ruinous depiction of her as a hard, heartless bitch barely tolerating him until someone 'better' came along, at which point she'd fuck off without a backwards glance?
'Better', as in a scabby, satchel-mouthed, gormless cretin, just to add surly insult to merciless injury.
Never has such a life-long and hardcore defender of the faith flipped into an ardent Rumishipper as I did after that episode, once I'd swept up the fragments of my soul.
Remember when they were sympathetic?
Remember when they showed human warmth?
Remember when they cared about each other?
Remember when they weren't just a jangling, distorted mess of half-recollected traits?
Remember when they weren't really evil?
Remember Rocketshipping? That was a thing once, believe it or not.
Remember when they had a conscience?
Remember when actually wicked characters turned up, and Team Rocket ALWAYS sided with Ash, rather than the nauseating spectacle of suddenly being best buds with the Boss?
Remember when they had contact with the Twerps?
Remember when Team Rocket and the Twerps loved each other in secret and would endanger themselves to save their 'enemies'?
Everything that was once good and winning about them was sucked out, degree by degree, to leave the corpse, hollow and dead, strung up on wires as a grim marionette.
I'm sure most who see this will vehemently disagree, that I'm completely wrong, that THEY like them.
Yes, you like this three, but you don't like Team Rocket. This is not them. You have yours, and I have mine, but let's not pretend they are the same.
Why, if there is no difference, would I be so hostile, when they meant so much too me?
Did you ever wonder where the original fans went, why they all departed en masse? It's not because they 'moved on' or 'matured'.
They didn't leave Pokémon. Pokémon left them.
As the makers rely so heavily on repetition (sorry, nostalgia) they arrogantly expect us to still be here, having blithely welcomed our memories minced and our canon ripped up or ripped off, apparently.
We're intended to put up with watching them lay waste to ťhe series's body, clinging on for when a rotting bone is pulled up now and again and waved at us, before they chuck it aside to continue the dismemberment.
It's been eaten from the inside out, explaining the facial collapse. Behold the beauty on show:
You see what I mean, don't you?
Don't you? No, because otherwise you'd say the same.
How anyone feels able to describe three deformed freaks as 'hot' or 'cute' I will never comprehend.
The uniform collar protrudes like a solid pipe, emphasising the pencil necks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It gives the impression of wrinkled, leathery tortoises peering out of their shells to secure a tasty lettuce treat.
Is that pretty? No.
Is it so surprising I don't care for my favourites to resemble melted waxwork skeletons of their own dæmonic counterparts?
S&M is a most fitting name, for this is torture.
In the film Death Becomes Her, Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn vie for the attention of Bruce Willis, both taking a serum giving everlasting youth and slimness.
The catch is it confers immortality, but not invulnerability, so when pushed down the stairs Meryl survives but is dead, her neck broken, thus she's zipped up in the morgue fridge.
When Goldie is shot with a canon she too rises, internal organs blown out.
The rest of the adventure involves the pair losing the war against time, patching up and painting over peeling grey skin, holding onto loose limbs as their bodies fall apart.
This obviously is the case here. The trio lapped the potion up at the close of Sinnoh, experienced a fatal accident and are now steadily crumbling to mush before us.
According to grave-diggers the head always goes first, so there you are then.
I have a suspicion that Giovanni lured all three to his crypt, experimenting on them to engineer his ultimate super soldier, which explains their flat, plastic appearance. Those since Unova began are the cyborgs, the real ones locked in his cellar.
You may notice I have about the lowest opinion possible of the current writing team, as they deserve.
Why should I have any respect for vindictive halfwits like this, who hate Team Rocket so much they're going out of their way to distort and uglify them, expressing the resentment in celluloid?
Jessie, James and Meowth lost their only defender in Takeshi Shudo. From that point they descended from loveable, hapless tragic figures to self-parodies (Hoenn) whiney, irritating divs dumping one another at every interval (Sinnoh), robotic, amoral scum (Unova and Kalos) and now physically repulsive minor additions (Alola and Galar). Is that trajectory all accidental?
It not that it's a new 'style' (for want of a better word), as were that the case, this hideousness would apply to the entire cast, but it's only done to Team Rocket. How could that be unless motivated by malice?
Given the sub thesps are obliged to prostrate themselves in the dust, begging fans to make their appreciation known, it smacks of desperation.
They wouldn't need to ask that were the trio treated as an integral component. They must sense the objections and are thus drumming up support to avoid the dole queue.
Are those in charge so resentful of their presence it manifests in mutilating them, keen to do anything that may alienate the fanbase, so at the first sign of a dip in popularity they can leap upon it as the perfect excuse to write Team Rocket out?
Why be surprised? These are imbeciles who reject their own canon at the close of every generation, so why care about someone else's?
If people have to harangue the writers with grovelling praise of their retcons, rehashes and all-round twatting about, butter 'em up sufficiently, with the implied threat of deserting the franchise should Team Rocket be ejected, taking their purses too, all so the smug, avaricious berks deign to put the trio in the next generation, that proves they don't want them, so how can what they write for their characters be objectively of any worth?
Team Rocket would've departed by now, were there not a palpable worry their absence might ring the death knell of the whole thing, turning off the financial tap, which is what matters.
Therefore they are retained, grudgingly, and only so long as the clamour continues at its current decibel level. If that drops it's over, and don't expect a romantic resolution. Why should pleasing you be a concern when you're to leave with them?
Ask yourself: how much of your devotion is based on what they are right now, and how much is from who they used to be?
How long can they live off past glories?
The offences done in Unova and Kalos were bad enough, but remarkably Game Freak found further depths to plumb, therefore it can only get worse.
I have of course retained the loveliest for last:
Be still, my beating heart.
No, really, be still. Stop infact.
Okay, so obviously Haikyuu is not real/a Manga, but isn't it our aim as a writer to depict headcanons/scenarios as real/relatable as possible? The Haikyuu universe isn't very far off reality too (meaning, the universe is pretty close to real life, unlike one piece for example). I love your writing too, and I'm not complaining about anything being "fantasy", I'm just wondering if that makes it wrong to point out things like that and to suggest to make it a little more realistic? :o
Tumblr media
Well… my aim as a writer is to make Haikyuu ( a fictional thing ) seem not so fictional…. BUT you all have to continue to remember
1. These are high school boys - how they’re portrayed through Tumblr makes them see much older. There is not a single high school boy I’ve met that has got their shit together as everyone makes Kuroo/Daichi/Iwaizumi seem lol It’s just by growth milestone standards pretty much improbable
2. They are not experienced at ALL - Hinata, Kageyama, Tsukki (EVERYONE’S FAV), Yams, Lev, Inuoka, and a couple more… they’re all young boys! like… 15? Maybe 16? So the idea of these boys being good at sex (aka Tsukki specifically) is honestly kind of “improbable” to think about… bc they’re Young Boys - and each has a different head canon of mine of when they’d lose their virginity let alone be any type of “Experienced” at sex
Sidenote: I know the manga first started in 2012… Meaning even if they were 15 at first creation they’d be 21 now… that’s fine and dandy… but your requests are for specific scenes/plots where they may or may not be 15-21+
3. Dicks in Fiction are much bigger than dicks in real life - Not every man is going to have a huge dick…. Especially still growing boys! And dick sizes varies in every single region (sometimes stereotypes DO surprise you)… But our audience doesn’t want that. they want big monstrous, anatomically incorrect dicks to fill them lol … as I writer, I write to please my readers.. not be super correct on every little thing I do - if they wanna get torn apart by a beast (which I don’t write about btw don’t ask me to lol gross) then who am I to say “THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE!” like a few anons have told me about the many sessions of sex I write about??
4. I am inexperienced - I have not had sex. I’ve not given head or received. Nor do I have a particular need to feel that. Honestly, the idea of anyone having sex with me is gross. Nasty, no thanks. But! I do watch my fair share of porn lol I still have that part of me… That being said - I do not know what everything that I write about feels like! so if my writing seems super dramatic, or super underplayed… it’s bc I don’t know what it feels like in the least…
Tbh at this point I think I’m mostly an unfeeling robot lol so yeah ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Overall.. My writing serves 2 purposes.. one more than the other really…
To make ME happy - a creative outlet I’ve chosen due to my love for the anime/manga
and to make YOU all happy - a creative way to read your fantasies come to readable life
Sadly, my writing doesn’t always make everyone who reads it happy!
For example! I liked the Noya/Reader/Enno piece I posted this past week! I think it came out pretty nice! Sure, there are a few flaws, and sure I’m sure it doesn’t make sense in some places - but I like it. It made me happy to write it and post it… That’s the dissonance between reader and writers preferences.
and that’s FINE. I’m okay with that, honestly!! I know not everyone is going to like my young, virgin fingers typing out their lewd, kinky, specific fantasies! And that’s their choice and I respect it!
But to say some things are impossible because of xx…. doesn’t make sense… Just tell me why you think it’s impossible, and we can chat about it or we can come to an agreement/disagreement! But don’t immediately brush it off as “Impossible”….
That’s just childish…
Okay! I’m done with that rant lol… I feel like I may have gone overboard and I may or may not get some backlash for saying all this… but I feel like I needed to say it… or at least most of it…
TL;DR: My writing is mainly about self fulfillment and secondly about quality/accuracy :)
Overall, I really thank you, anon, for allowing me to think about this on a deeper level than was probably necessary lol
I’m sure Aachan may have a few things to say, as well, but that’s up to her if she wants to reblog and give her own input!!! I’m all for it though lol I’d love to hear her thoughts, as well!
Anyway! Thanks for poking my brain today, love! No hard feelings whatsoever! Hope you have a wonderful day!
S2 E1 The Child
Ooo, check out Worf's new baldric (and shirt and forehead) and RIKER'S BEARD!!! And Geordi got a promotion.
Riker maneuver.
I got so used to Frakes clean shaven it's odd to see the beard. Don't get me wrong, I like the beard, a lot. It's a very important part of TNG finding it's style. A lot of people credit his beard as signifying the solidification of TNG creatively. I think it's a very important step but I would disagree and argue that the series doesn't really settle in until season 3.
It's like Tinker Bell...crossed with immaculate conception? Or rape...
Riker's beard is a little fuller than it usually is. It has some "nautical" fine-tuning yet to go.
Ah yes, Pulaski. I really don't like her. She's one of the reasons I don't think the series settles until season 3.
This addition of 10 forward (Guinan) and it's retroactive continuity is odd. But I suppose unlike Riker's beard a new room can't just be added to a ship.
It is odd how Deanna responds in this scene. Before the meeting has even begun she sits at the conference table separate from everyone else and is barely responsive. These are her friends and she can't even look at them. Then when Picard announces her pregnancy he initially skips over the entire reason that it's ships business and not just a personal concern.
I've seen some comparison of this discussion as an issues of pro-choice and I would be inclined to agree but I have a few other issues too. One problem I have is this is set up so Troi does not initially advocate for herself. Pulaski and Picard are the ones who present the pregnancy and Troi has physically positioned herself to be removed from the conversation. It's not even made clear what she's feeling. Her response could be anger or it could be determination. Obviously the initial concern is for everyone's safety and once Troi actually speaks up they immediately respect her decision. But from there the show don't address the very problematic issue that Troi wasn't given an option for consent for the initiation of this pregnancy. She hasn't (exactly) been sexually assulted but she has still been violated. This is the second Troi focused episode (after Haven), and the way she as a character is being used is not okay.
I can see Riker's response being interpreted two different ways. He asks who the father is and it's either in the same vein of jealousy and difficulty in letting Troi go as "Haven" or he and Troi are good friends and he's hurt that she didn't share such an important part of her life. (It's not clear at this stage how close they are as friends. In season 6 "Man of the People" Riker says he's closer to Deanna than he's ever been to anyone, but that's a ways away). Neither is a very compassionate response, they're both self-centered, and they're both ignorant of her clear emotional distress.
I love when Wesley turns to look at Troi, and Riker just stares at him before pointedly ordering him to standard orbit.
Data's fascination and wonder at birth are very endearing. He starts to smile when Deanna approves of his presence during delivery. Data's questions do bring up some interesting thoughts on telepathy and babies...
I've seen a fair amount of commentary that I'd like to echo here about some fairly progressive aspects of this episode. Specifically have a man present in the delivery room. Even by the late 80's this was a very progressive and new option for men. A few decades before and this would have been unheard of. Not only that but there is no father, Data is present and a friend. Perhaps the fact that Data is present, and not a man in a true sense, makes this more acceptable. Either way, this this is definitely an episode that does better when viewed in its time, and without more resent "sensibilities" imposed on it for judgment.
(with that said It's the 24th century and the best they can manage is stirrups.... I'm just not okay with that.)
Okay, so Riker. The first scene around the conference table he's selfish, the scene in the bridge he's protective, and then this scene he's very affectionate, supportive, and caring. He seems to genuinely care for her but hangs back so as to not intrude. What is odd is that Deanna doesn't know he's there. Given her empathic abilities (and connection with Riker) surely she would feel how close he was, and what he felt, if only vaguely. Granted there are other things to preoccupy her focus but we still don't, and never really, understand what their connection, their imzadi bond, affords them.
I've seen the interpretation that Deanna didn't want Will there based on the fact that she asked Data to be there. However, she responded positively to seeing Will and Data's presence at this birth seems to be just based around circumstance: he was there, he was available. For Riker's part he may not feel entitled to be there, and Deanna may not feel like she can ask that of him. Ultimately, there's a lot of room for different interpretation because their relationship is so undefined. We know nothing other than that they are ex lovers who still have [unknown] emotions for each other.
I just noticed Pulaski wears a different uniform from Crusher. Pulaski's is a sort of short dress but it's not like the tight short-sleeved little skirt things you can see women (and a few men early on) wear in the background. And she has trousers/leggings.
Pulaski is a prejudiced b****. It's clearly intentional. I don't know why she was a necessary addition to this crew. (I went on a small rant about her being racist for my Encounter at Farpoint post) Where was all of the "holier than thou" enlightened BS when her character was designed?
So, there's a litter of puppies in the nursery, but just for today. Where did they come from? Picard may not have played with puppies but it's worth seeing Patrick Stewart with one (and maybe he got Number One as a puppy)
Okay, back on track now:
The exterior close up shot of the outside of the ship panning into 10 forward is very unusual; there aren't typically close up shots of the outside of the ship. There have been a few but they're rare.
It looks like Wil grew a bit between seasons.
Majel isn't the computer. Why? (At some point I think she is all of the computer, right?)
Amazing performance from Marina.
I love this gif set, I think it really sums up the episode:
I want to see Worf tuck Wesley in. And look at the smile from Riker. I think Riker has finally, and almost entirely, loosened up. Space dads!
Engage.
