Headcanons:

Acronix isn't quite sure about his sexuality. He knows he likes guys, but unsure about others. "Is it just a preference? Or do I like everyone equally and just happened to have crush only on guys so far? Or am I just simply gay?" He isn't even sure if the attractions he felt before were romantic at all. He's absolutely confused. But still proud.

Krux is demi-aroace and doesn't believe in "love at first sight". He genuinely thought it was just a romance book cliche and nobody actually fell in love without forming a strong bond first. And when he found out it wasn't the case, he was absolutely dumbfounded. He never had anyone close enough to be attracted to, so he doesn't use any other label besides demi-aroace. He isn't a big fan of labels anyways.

Having a complex, queer, in-good-faith identity that others might not immediately get is not the same thing as being a violent bigot, and frankly, I think people need to remember that just because you don't "get" an identity, that doesn't mean it is hurting you specifically. Being a bigot is harmful, being a human being with complex experiences is not. Don't equate the two.

It's kind of silly but I always see an "in-between" identity as just "ah, bisexual"

Probably because when I was first in queer online discourse I mainly got "stop being biphobic" stuff as "we are not half and half, we are our own sexuality" and generally seeing bisexuality as the forgettable middle. Sexuality being a spectrum and pointing to bisexuality as the "middle" or in-between of two binary choices. Since I don't think in words usually it can also just be purple for the same idea, you're red or blue, and the in between does not exist to many. It's purple or just the bi pride flag.

So I sit there like "gray aspecs are bisexual" and know if I say that out loud, people will assume I have the most batshit take imaginable. When really it's "they fall on the spectrum when people like binaries."

What's making me think about this currently? Looking at what being plural implies, seeing that non-system plurals can exist, and immediately going "ah, I find myself to be bisexual once again" because I'm sure it'll attract a lot of flack if you can't fit in one or the other.

like it's not that people particularly like me or respect me. torn opinions on whether I am a self hating bisexual repressing my attraction to men or a self hating lesbian repressing my truth (I am a confident bisexual women with a preference for other women and enough age to admit men didn't make me happy). but I am taken more seriously and the reactions (especially from the neoliberal rebranded homophobia crew) are less aggressive. almost like I passed the ritual served my time as an object to men. a concerning amount of people on every social circle and political opinions still seem to believe lesbians have to "just try it" "just to be sure". otherwise they are either infantilized as eternal virgins who never reach complete womanhood. or vilified as fetishist predatory towards women in what is so obviously mere punishment for their complete proud and certain rejection of men. everyone is so lesbophobic it's unreal

Every few years the tumblr queer community decides that we clearly don't have enough problems as is with real bigots, and they pick a sub-category of other queer people to convince us that "actually these are the True Oppressors, Guys, I Promise, they're too loud and privileged and stealing our rights as we speak!" while also mostly using recycled terf rhetoric but Woke This Time to support these accusations. At some point it was bi people (especially bi sapphics), then ace and aro people. Now it seems it's the turn of trans men & transmasc people in general.

And of course, if you as a member of the targeted demographic try to speak up, you're labelled as proof of the accusations. "See? They're loud and annoying and are oppressing us by not letting us target them, instead of shutting up and taking it like good little victims!".

And I, for one, I'm not having it.
