I can’t articulate well but I definitely think the BT delusions and hostility have been amplified by the shift over the years in shipping and fandoms in general, where people have been putting way more focus and importance on whether a ship is canon or not. These days a lot of people apparently see canon as the end-all be-all, and seem to feel sometimes that being canon is a sort of one hit KO in shipping wars, or that it should be and they get mad when it’s not. Like it’s some sort of seal of approval that they are doing shipping the right way and better than those other people who are doing it wrong. When you mix that with how people these days, especially online, seem to feel the need to turn everything into an issue of morality, you get an awful situation where you see people linking what you ship to whether you’re a good person or not, which has no actual connection. And so shipping the “wrong” pairing equals bad person, and then they go looking for so-called “evidence” to back up this narrative they’ve created. It’s kind of insidious? And rage and anger is never in short supply on the internet, and if you don’t have the tools to regulate your emotions then it can snowball very quickly. Rage feeds itself and sustains itself and feels good in the moment, and the internet can be an echo chamber, and outrage can also act as an artificial bonding agent between people, so if you’re not careful you can get stuck in a self-perpetuating cycle of negative emotions, that will ultimately just leave you feeling drained and hollow and exhausted

You are basically saying all the things I've thought about, but I had no exact idea how they connected and how to explain any of it. And here you are, just casually laying bare the core of the issue here.

Everyone should read this and if anyone recognises themselves as being stuck in that self-perpetuating cycle of negative emotions? Get off the fandom train now and take a break. Get away from online fandom for a while. Fandom and shipping isn't worth destroying your own emotional health. Take care of yourself.
