The way Edwin looks at him is so loving too but Charles and his big, tender brown eyes are too much for me in this particular scene. The love confession absolutely needed to happen when it did and how it did (a huge turning point in pushing Edwin into vulnerability obviously) but I do wonder what it would have been like if Edwin could have confessed in this moment, uninterrupted by the Night Nurse.

hellooo, some reassuring words 🫶 so, i know the upfronts have us all gone crazy and i totally get it - it would be great for my mental health to get renewal news asap too. maybe you've heard that 3 body problem was renewed, a show that came out a month earlier than dead boy detectives (congrats to them). a renewal for dbd now would be veeery earlier (but appreciated so give it to me) - less than a month after the show has been released. they did say dbd is getting mentioned so if it hasn't been so far, who knows what's to come? the list on twitter mentioned shows that were gonna come out later this year. we know for a fact that we're not getting a second season this early so no wonders it wasn't included. the press release also didn't mentioned the sandman and we know that has been renewed and is definitely gonna come out.

upfronts aside, have you all noticed that every social media account - netflix, warner bros, etc. - have been talking about dead boy detectives season 1 specifically? now, coming from the lockwood fandom i can tell you that this is a very good sign. like very good. lockwood has been canceled about 3 months after its release with no mention on social media, they were trying to pretend that show never existed. keep in mind that we're just 3 weeks after dbd release and we are getting lots of interviews and social media posts. would've been great to get that before the show was released but at this point i take all that i can get. we've also all noticed that netflix has a shit record of canceling fantasy/ghost shows so at this point it seems like they may need to prove a point. a huge part that is worth a mention and may help us with a renewal is the big part of the queer community + variety of characters. what might also help is that people like sza or misha collins have shown love and support and actively asked for a second season.

views on the show may have not been what we hoped for but: have you taken a closer look at the top 10 for this week (may 6 - 12) specifically? 4th - 10th place have less than 5 million views. and remember, they're the top ten + most watched shows for this week. dbd had 4.7 million views in it's first week of release (april 29 - may 5) which is - again, lower than 5 million - but ranked top 3 with that. people have been very vocal about the fact they're reluctant to start a new show because of cancelation news. and numbers like this definitely show that and how hesitant everyone is. i'm pretty sure netflix is aware of that or has at least seen concern online. every comment section is filled, asking for season 2. and i'm sure a renewal announcement as soon as possible would lead to a major boost in views. it would switch from "i don't want to watch this show because i might not get more" to "i know another season will come out so i'm definitely gonna watch it now".

also, neil gaiman is included & it is part of the sandman universe. i don't think that needs further explanation.

i could very well mention even more but i do think we're good for now.

Castlevania Season 4 is an anomaly, because when put next to Season 3, it feels like either Season 4 was finalized before it's predecessor, and they had no time to update it to be more congruent with Season 3's developments, or they were exhausted after finishing Season 3, took a long break, and they lost all of their animation copies and continuity notes, so they had to write follow-up stories from their memories, but they also wanted to tell something new by then. Know what I'm saying here?

I do. I believe two factors impacted Season 3 and Season 4:

Season 3 was not meant to exist. The story was effectively done by S2, after Dracula's death. Or rather... the three protagonists were done, as per Dracula's Curse - Hector and Isaac should have, by all means, transitioned into the Curse of Darkness story. But the original script, the one revised by IGA, only accounted for a Dracula's Curse adaptation. I believe there is a reason S3 was announced in 2018, but was released in 2020: that suggests production issues. Basically, Ellis received more freedom, but he also didn't know what to do anymore, and it's written all over the season. It's obvious they (Ellis and the Deats brothers; I don't think Shankar had much input by this point) were all throwing shit at the wall to see what stuck, only vaguely inspired by the idea of a "vacuum of power" left by Dracula. The Trephacard gang, in particular, has screentime only because they couldn't be dropped as characters, but they really should have been cut.

S3 was criticized by the fans for being simultaneously bleak and a waste of time, and Ellis was accused by dozens of women of sexual misconduct. The story needed to have a happy ending that would make up for all the previous cynicism, and it needed to be wrapped up quickly to cut ties with the man (they couldn't replace him, I suppose: Nocturne is proof of how recognizable Ellis' style is). Season 4 was painfully rushed as a result.

I've read multiple times the theory that a 5th season was planned, and on Wikipedia they say this:

"On March 27, 2019, Netflix announced they had renewed the series for a fourth season,[21] stating on April 16, 2020, that it would be the series's final season.[22] On July 31, 2019, it was reported that amid a wave of sexual misconduct allegations being levelled against the show's creator and showrunner Warren Ellis, he would no longer have any involvement in developing subsequent Castlevania series after the fourth season's release.[23]"

And yeah, the timeline to say "welp shit better be done asap" matches.

I don't believe S4 was planned in advance. It is possible that as S3 was being written, they started to have a general idea of the kind of character development some characters would go through: for example Alucard was pushed into misanthropy by the end of S3, but with the idea that he'd eventually rise above his father, which happened, although in the span of one episode. I'm on the fence about Isaac learning to "live", because that feels like a response to his massive popularity more than something planned in advance, even though admittedly a few seeds were planted in S3. And as for Hector, I am positive the original idea was for him to go on a rampage in the castle, finally growing into the gigachad his fans wanted him to become, but someone in the crew fell in love with the Lenector ship (or saw how much fans loved Lenore), and they swerved his story into that direction at the last minute. That love story is no product of Ellis' pen, I can guarantee you: he only provided the sassy dialogue. basically what flynn did in frontiers lmao

(Trevor and Sypha did nothing relevant, ofc. Trevor was given the Death fight out of pity and I'm also positive about this)

Caved and watched episode 7 at work saving the last episode for tonight as a treat. Netflix I need the writers working asap I want a season 2 renewal on my desk by Monday I can’t handle anymore cancellations. Like I haven’t binged watched a show in a while I missed this feeling.

Hey!  So I’ve seen a lot of tags from people reblogging from me, tags on Sandman posts.  About how you haven’t watched it yet.  Or you’re not sure if you’re going to watch it. 

Let me take this opportunity to ENTHUSIASTICALLY ENCOURAGE you to do so, ASAP.  According to Neil Gaiman, in order to get another season, people really need to watch and finish it THIS WEEK (ie within the first 30 days of release) as that’s how Netflix decides on renewal.

So if you’ve been putting it off or hesitating, please give it a try?  If you still have questions or concerns about it, feel free to ask me?  I’ve watched the series twice and read the comics like a lot so, I think I’m a pretty good source.

Every day that Dead Boy Detectives isn't renewed my emotional wellbeing takes a critical hit. I keep reminding myself that there are two studios at play in this decision and it took a little over 80 days for Sandman to be renewed, so really it's not all that surprising that the announcement is taking a hot second. But truly I need them to renew it ASAP because I cannot continue to live like this!!!

Anyway @netflix RENEW THE DAMN GHOST BOYS ALREADY. This show has a strong, dedicated, growing fandom and it has been praised by multiple media outlets and critics... there's literally not a single reason you shouldn't renew it, so get on with it PLEASE!!!

Super late with this for the ask meme but I have to let you know that the photo booth scene from "Like the Fog Has Lifted" lives rent free in my mind ever since I read the fic. It’s so beautiful and combines so many things I just LOVE for Julie and Luke—the closeness, Luke’s honesty, the pining and this:

"Kissing Luke is warm like the welcome sight of the sun on an otherwise foggy morning. It’s electric like the moments they share on stage together, spurred on by the roar of the crowd singing along to the music they’ve poured their souls into. Luke and Julie in the photo booth ALSO lives rent free in my head so I feel you! It actually sort of kills me that I wrote it but I'll never be able to see the photo strip in question lol. But I was out at fisherman's wharf with a visiting family member last week. It was perfectly foggy and I had a little giggle when I walked past the penny arcade with the photo booths thinking about my own fic which was fun! So I guess I'll always have that! 😂

I feel like there was a lot riding on that moment (in hindsight I probably should have made the summary for the fic: luke and Julie make out in an old timey photo booth and THAT'S THE FIC) so I love knowing that you love it so much!

Also, imma selfishly need netflix to renew the show ASAP so you can gif that line! 🤩

Today has been an absolutely chaotic day on Tumblr, between SPN and Julie and the Phantoms winning 3 highly deserved Emmy’s on Madison’s Birthday and I am here for it.

i loved it so much

mal and alina are?? so cute?? i don’t remember liking their relationship this much in the books but in the show it’s just. sublime.

i cried on 6 out of 8 episodes and i’m p sure 90% of the time was because of them

they love each other so much?? they make me v emo whenever they’re together

and the letters. jesus christ the letters.

i think i’ve never cried more than when they were sending letters to each other

i liked his fight with ivan, especially because it showcases how his (jesper’s) powers can be used in battle

kaz was incredible

freddie’s potrayal of him was everything i could have wanted and more

his “fight” w the darkling was v funny to me

imagine being an inmortal all-powerful wizard who can manipalute shadows and having an over-dramatic teen who wears all black and a cape avoid fighting you by being good at magic tricks

kaz was as calculating and ruthless as he is in soc and i couldn’t have asked for anything else of his character, tbh

the little kanej moments in the show destroyed me, tore my heart in pieces, left me dead in a ditch-

kaz fighting the volcra off of inej... telling her that he needs her... looking at her worriedly when she's injured... inej killing the inferni to save him and always being by his side when he needs her... good god

someone save me before they drive me insane

inej’s characterization was on point, too

her motives, the references to her experiences in the ménagerie, her devotion to alina, her faith... it was all incredibly done

it felt as if i was reading the books all over again

and amita’s performance was spectacular

i can’t wait to see more of her in season 2

speaking of the crows... their little heist to the royal archives watered my crops, cleared my skin, cured my depression

i really hope they adapt the ice palace arc someday bc it would give me a lifetime’s worth of serotonin

jesper's and inej's friendship gave me so much life

two of my favorite friendship dynamics between the crows are theirs and nina + kaz so I NEED A SEASON 2
