Hey, quick question if you don't mind me asking but what are your thoughts on Drew Tanaka as a character and how she was portrayed in HOO?

canon drew...well. i rbed this post that says "drew was not written as a character but rather a human obstacle who needed to be feminine so the ‘not like other girls’ could defeat her," and i think that summarizes it perfectly. she exists exclusively to make piper look good, which is a real shame bc drew could've been interesting. as-is, drew is not only uninteresting, piper is also uninteresting by extension. it'd be like if nancy was one of percy's greatest obstacles in tlt.

more under the cut bc i'm incapable of keeping things short.

here, in her introduction, not only is drew, a feminine girl, vain, she's also weak and unintimidating, a triple whammy right away! she has no reason to be antagonistic towards piper here, they literally just got to camp. piper's crime right now is *checks notes* not looking cute and existing next to a "good-looking guy." oh, yeah, btw drew likes jason for being hot and powerful.

this triple whammy isn't even restricted to drew, it's the entire aphrodite cabin. they all giggle when drew flirts w jason and when piper is uncomfortable being "gorgeous" and are too scared and weak to stand up to drew. the two exceptions are a guy who got in trouble for saying piper "might not be so bad" and a girl who's afraid of ugly shoes. what an uninteresting take.

anyway, moments like this

are everywhere. now, let's remember for a moment that the aphrodite cabin (including drew!) fought in a war where they were outnumbered and won. but yeah, their biggest strength is their ability to "make an orange t-shirt glamorous" bc piper is the only one out of them who can *checks notes* uhhh run? charmspeak on a quest? carry a knife? she doesn't even know how to fight in tlh! she wasn't at camp for more than two days, she never had any fighting experience! the fact that she's being called tougher than ppl who fought in a war makes me grit my teeth. and thalia was there when it happened!

and it doesn't even makes sense bc we see aphrodite like this is ttc

(also sidenote: why is aphrodite's claiming so egregious and uncomfortable then? it's like rick has a moment of clarity and realizes he's being stupid and then immediately fucks it up again.)

this is interesting! and some of these kids (including drew!) would have met this aphrodite during the solstices. so portraying drew and the aphrodite cabin as a bunch of shallow kids obsessed w makeup that need to be saved by piper "not like other girls" mclean is so contrived. and constantly bringing up how piper's so much better than those shallow and weak aphrodite kids makes piper's entire character grating. rick brings up aneaus repeatedly throughout tlh, a son of venus/aphrodite that founded rome. why are we acting like aphrodite children are weak and stupid when we could be exploring literally anything else? like, you know, how they're traumatized?

and the thing is, he brings up silena! and it's done terribly. piper, who never knew silena and never will, lecturing drew, someone who knew silena and was betrayed by her, has always pissed me off. piper relating to silena bc she feels like she's in the same position? good, that's fine, i have no problem w this. but acting like she knew silena to ppl who actually did and then preaching abt what silena believed should've gotten her smacked (rick didn't even addressed the actual important part, which is how the other campers feel abt silena or how they feel abt surviving a war).

then when piper challenges drew, again, drew fought in a war while piper hasn't trained for a single day, why are we acting like piper could beat drew in a fight? piper can't even use charmspeak bc drew's resistant to it! that's the one advantage piper has! writing it like this comes off like piper is only strong as long as everyone else is weak. she's not rising to a challenge, her competitor is just so pathetic that she can overpower them. she didn't earn her strength. that's not good character development! so we're throwing two entire character arcs away for this!

what really gets me abt all of this is that piper didn't need to be a counselor. piper needed a place to belong. making drew nothing more than a stepping-stone was completely unnecessary, and making the aphrodite cabin weak and vain was redundant bc we already had an example w silena (and again, all the kids that fought in a war). as it is in canon, drew's character is a great example of some of rick's biggest writing flaws.

The context behind the lyrics is that, before the war, Megs gave Scorpio a poem to confess his feelings, because that's what he is; a poet. Scorpio tried to find the right way to reply for a very long time- over six million years in fact. She simply can't find the words or images she wants. So, it's applicable to both of them.

4: "I'm Like a Lawyer with the Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off (Me & You)" - How might either of you show your affection for the other? Is it more verbally, physically, or a secret third thing? // Scorpio is a very physical person by nature. Her primary way to spend time with someone is to pin them down with her weight somehow. She's not good with words. Megs is much more verbal, I think; very much a man of words. There's also the silent affect, of agreeing to call things off for a while for their own protections, to wait until he gets out of prison. The relationship doesn't happen for real for a very long time, it goes mostly unspoken and unacted on.

9: "The (After) Life of the Party" - What was the moment that made you realize you had fallen in love with your f/o (this can either be answered as an irl moment or a moment in a story-driven way)? And vice versa, what was the moment that your f/o realized they’ve fallen in love with you? // Me, irl, it happened about a week ago actually- LOL before it was exclusively a fwb thing but looking at it from the lens of Scorpio's affections I'm like wait hold on...and Scorpio was always sort of sweet on Megs, it just took a while for it to take. I'm not sure when exactly Megs realised- it was before the war, that's certain enough.

14: "I've Got All This Ringing in My Ears and None on My Fingers" - What does your s/i contribute to your f/o’s source? Do they play a specific role? Or are they just hanging around? // Scorpio is Megs' left hand mech for a long time during the war. She defects near the end, because of things involving Op.tim.us and memory loss/gain, and he specifically protects her by shoving her down to the very bottom of the kill squad list. Love <3

1. What’s your favorite character(s) to write for?

(evidently) i write a lot of diluc. he’s one of my favorites to write for, simply because his character is easy to capture for me. like he’s often seen as this big serious guy, but i try to look at the more human parts of him! bc this guy can take on abyss camps singlehandedly but he was probably the kind of kid who was constantly missing teeth bc of his childhood antics :) his angst potential is also endless!!! i cause him lots of pain >:)

7. What story/headcanons do you feel the proudest of?

uhhh i really really liked writing that superhero!diluc piece for my event (“set in motion” on my masterlist) because of the visuals i had to make it!!! like i had this whole moment of realization while watching tasm (andrew garfield and emma stone oh my god) and when i got to the reveal where he uses the web to bring her back into his arms i was like “DILUC!” it was just so perfect at the time 😩 or the xiao fic i put out recently (“if i could” in my masterlist) bc i reread it and had people watching playing in the background and i was like “damn, i’m good 🫣”

I feel like Mike developed feelings for Will way before season 1. Obviously not when they first met because the writers have stated before they don’t believe in ‘love at first sight’ (and I don’t either tbh) but it was probably a gradual thing.

Will probably developed feelings before season 3. And definitely after season 1. Sometime in between those seasons.

i think i agree. ik i just went on my big rant about mike and friendship and love but... yeah. i think it happened for him before season one... but in a way where he didn't realize what the nature of the feelings were just that they were intense and positive. (i rbed a post the other day that said smth like there's love in friendship and friendship in love and if that doesn't fully describe the way mike wheeler feels for will byers then what does?) he prolly hasn't even fully discovered what they mean and in season four... we'll get our "oh" moment. for will i think his moment might have happened between one and two but he didn't realize until between two and three. especially once he started to get jealous of mike and el. and when he reflected on the shed scene bc he has to remember it he HAS TO. bc that line about not falling in love to joyce... and the LOOK on his face after it's not my fault you don't like girls and d*stroying castle byers......... he has realized already but he hasn't accepted it. i think will needs someone else to tell him it's okay? like i think we've seen jon talking to will about 'liking what he likes' and 'being different' enough times. we get the vague metaphors now give us the explicit talk. will needs permission to love himself and to love who he loves but jon needs to tell him that he shouldn't be looking for that permission anywhere else but inside.

This isn't to say that it's bad to hate cis men for their misogyny or that any kind of reverse oppression exists but like...? You're defining your ideology by hating men as a whole and everyone who IDs as a man. But many men are oppressed by people who ID as misandrists.

If you're a white woman, men of color aren't oppressing you.

If you're a cis woman, trans men aren't oppressing you. [Edit: on the basis of gender that is. Obviously it is possible for trans men to have other privileges over cis women such as white privilege or abled privilege. They don't have male privilege tho is my point.]

And white cis men aren't harmed by misandry, obviously, but literally any other marginalized men are? Because the whole ideology involves weaponizing mens marginalized identities against them, there is currently no way to avoid that in the current discourses people are having.

And there's also the unaddressed issue that misandry is closely tied to terf ideology. There's a reason self IDed misandrists keep accidentally rbing terf posts and have to be reminded. And it's really fucking weird how cis women will be told that their rbed post that are shit like "Men are inherently abusive and invasive and horrible" were actually made by a terf and will be like "oh I'm sorry I thought this was about men, ill delete it" and then??? Find more of the same shit without thinking about why terfs think like that? (See: because they simplify concepts like misogyny to "men = bad and women = good" and then apply a transphobic misgendering view to that and are radicalized against trans women as a result.)

Things like "man" and "woman" are constructs, that doesn't mean they hold no meaning, but they don't even remotely = experience. For example the statement "men don't experience misogyny" is incorrect. Trans men experience misogyny because to cis men they're perceived as women, not all trans men pass as cis men enough to not experience misogyny, and people can ID as a man and as a woman at the same time. It simply is not simple enough to be reduced to something like misandry.

For example when you say "I hate men and that includes trans men, they're men so they're bad. Trans women are okay though" (a take I see a lot) not only is this very transphobic against trans men but also excludes all the Bigender and multigender/genderfluid trans women and TMA nonbinary people who ID as both a trans woman and a man. They do in fact exist. You do not understand the trans communities like you think you do.

Basically, I get it. There's nothing wrong with punching up at abusers. But the "misandrist" view has nothing to do with punching up, it's headed by white cis women who are taking out the trauma experienced due to cis white men onto other marginalized people.

Listen to all trans people. Not just the ones who fit your view of womanhood enough to be "one of you". Stop being transphobic and otherwise bigoted and realize that this isn't the epic girlboss moment you think it is.

Anyway don't reblog this it's going to get flooded by terfs probably because they don't like it when I say this stuff lmao. (Which should be telling on its own that when I speak about how misandry is a harmful ideology the main people attacking it are terfs)

But if you're cis especially if you're a white cis woman I want you to think about this. hiiii! thanks for the ask. your choice of characters is really nice! i'll try my best to lay out my opinions here, but i don't think i'll be able to give you some for yosana bcs i am not that confident with my opinions on her ;;; anyways, i'll go with sigma first~

 • Why I like them 

Sigma is simply not unlikable. It’s just the vibes he gives when he is in his own habitat (e.g. the casinio), he really was so confident there and I just… I’m weak for that kind of vibe. And also, his duality, like despite looking confident, he’s an anxious and desperate little thing. But most importantly, his sense of morality. I don’t know, he crosses the boundaries of the popular argument of nurture vs nature. Even when he was dumped into the world without any family or ties or purpose, it looks like he intuitively knows that his purpose is not bound for killing (remember: he didn’t ever want to stab Taneda-sensei. He was only driven by DoA’s mission.) There might be underlying reasons why, and honestly, I’m still looming over it through headcanons and theories (but for now I am focusing on Nikolai and Fyodor, so Sigma baby have to wait). Sigma just wants something that would define him, or make him feel like he belong. Hence, why he was so desperate to protect the casino because his identity is tied to it. If he loses it, what would he be? Of course, Fyodor nails it on the part that he knows what Sigma wanted – a home and a purpose. Also, he’s really kind to his customers to a point that he gives them a second chance in every game by sabotaging the game himself, lol. (And memorizing his clients’ numbers and needs.) That’s some high level of service right there. So yeah, he’s just overall precious. 

 • Why I don’t 

Who doesn’t like Sigma, let’s talk. Okay, honestly, I don’t think he is ever culpable for not being able to get out of Decay of Angels. The strong reason would be because it’s the only place that provided him home, security, safety, and identity. He’s deeply tied to the organization because of that. And yes, because he experiences what it feels like to be a stray, and to stay in prisons, and he doesn’t ever want to go back there. So yes, I don’t have any reasons why I don’t like him. For me, there’s simply not any. 

 • Favorite episode (scene if movie) 

Since we still don’t have Season 4 yet, so I’m going substitute manga panel/s for it. Though idk why I can't insert photos when answering this ask. Is there a new Tumblr update for the features? I think there was, but anyways, I'll just going to verbalize it. Most of my favorite manga panels of him are those where he's the most vulnerable, like that time he gave up in front of Atsushi and that one where he slipped off Atsushi's grip. It makes me want to hug him ;;; 

 • Favorite season/movie 

I’ll just substitute this is favorite arc in the manga. Of course, the current Decay of Angels arc where he appears the most. 

 • Favorite Line 

Sigma has said some lines that really resonates so much, but I will just cite one that sticks out to me. 

 “Hey, somebody tell me, can’t an ordinary man be forgiven for wanting to protect what’s important to him?” 

 • Favorite outfit 

The one he’s wearing, of course! Sigma’s character design is really interesting. The fact that he’s wearing heels and earrings is so groundbreaking. And also, Harukawa-san snapped when they made him have a galactic design in the interior of his coat. And his turtleneck! I really love the fact that he wears a turtleneck underneath, because strip him off other layers and leave him in that turtleneck and slacks, imagine the power he would have. I think it won’t be a stretch to say that Sigma is one of the characters in BSD with Best Character Design. 

 • OTP 

I know GogSig is a known rarepair with Sigma involved, and yes, I have written it at some point – mind you, it’s the fic with my highest word count – but I’m not totally knee-deep in the ship. But I have encountered a rarepair fic before of Chuuya x Sigma, and when it flashed in my mind the potentials of that ship, I do think it’s nice! Kinda has the same vibes with ChuuAtsu, hence why I’m here for it. 

 • Brotp 

I wanted to put Sigma x Atsu in OTP, but I realize I see them more as siblings/best of friends. I don’t know if that counts as Brotp. 

 • Headcanon 

Not much, but I hc Sigma as asexual and nonbinary. And also, I don’t think he’s scared of insects.

• Unpopular opinion 

People sometimes call him Fyodor's OC but I don't really think that's the case. Maybe, my point here is un-improved and I must have totally missed other information in the manga (so correct me if I did) but I do think that Sigma isn’t made by Fyodor. He woke up in a dessert, right? Three years ago (as of documented so there's a possibility of something before three years ago.) But the Decay of Angels only obtained a page in consequent to the happenings of Sunday Tragedy, and the events all rolled over quickly from the moment ADA was framed. (And the casino was made 8 days prior to Skyfall.) Besides, Fyodor fetched him up from a prison which might indicate that Fyodor must have only heard of him, and that there might be someone else who made him. But is it actually canon that Fyodor admitted to making him or I totally have forgotten that part? My memory is so wack sometimes, I’m sorry. And also if people only dubbed him as Fyodor's OC as a joke, forgive me for not understanding ;;; 

• A wish 

I wish Sigma will be with ADA at the end. He just suits to be there, and since BSD has this way to perpetuating patterns like Oda adopted orphans and influenced Dazai by taking in and helping Atsushi, so it is my own wish that such would also influence Atsushi to take in Sigma. Though he already basically had done it by initiating to recruit Kyouka into ADA, but can Sigma be the other one? Please. 

• An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen 

That Sigma would die when he would touch Fyodor to extract information from him. I think it’s pretty much hinted that Fyodor can control his deadly ability but, like, if he knows that Sigma is getting used by Nikolai just to know about his ability, it’s scary for me to think that he would kill Sigma upon the moment of contact. Well, it’s only a theory, so I desperately hope there are other ways to know about Fyodor’s ability without having to possibly kill Sigma in the process. He deserves a character arc with a happy ending!

• My nickname for them 

I like calling him “Sigma baby~” in a way to indicate that he’s a baby. 

 As for Yosano, like what I said, I am not so confident with my opinions of her ;;; except that I DO LIKE HER and I ship her with Kouyou.
