Thank you so much for the tag, @goatskickin! :D I am ill rn, so please excuse the rambling. x) Long post ahead!

What’s your favorite Sims death? Maybe fright? I've only ever had it happen once via ghost, the anim is pretty funny. :)

Alpha CC or Maxis Match? My Simblr probably says otherwise, but I don’t have a preference! I’ve had nearly every possible CC style under the sun throughout my years of playing, and I constantly think about reviving my 'semi-realism' folder (living vicariously through you, other simmers!). I didn't play with CC until early 2006 though, so MM is a little bit more nostalgic. :)

Do you cheat your sims weight? Hell no! I'm still in awe of Nysha's townie body diversity mod finally letting townies be fat. :D I wish the game had a better way of managing bodyshapes so I could add more variety that way.

Do you move objects? Of course!

Favorite Mod? Of all time? Impossible! My continued interest in gameplay is always because of new mods. :)

I did gain a new outlook thanks to a mod recently, though! My wild romance sim Blaze Biermann ended up 'mood swinging' to fortune before he went to uni, and instead of reverting, it got stuck.

He had a few flings still (pleasure secondary), but after he returned home and met his daughter (for the first time since her birth), he started cringing whenever I directed him to romance his dates. It felt like he had grown as a person, and I loved it!

TL;DR: Randomly change your sims' original aspiration/s to give them interesting character arcs! First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack? I mean, not my decision, but our first TS1 EP was Hot Date. I'm pretty sure I got TS2 EPs/SPs in order of release (miss those days of unwrapping a new one every birthday/christmas!).

Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made? I don't usually get very attached to my first-generation sims, but maybe Evonne Milos, from the gameplay/story hood I accidentally destroyed in four days? Never actually played her, but I had a lot of ideas for a corrupt 'sexpot' politician. x)

Have you made a simself? Lots! 99% of the fun I had playing TS2 as a kid was me and my best friend making ourselves and our respective crushes of the week, and we'd always live in one of those Veronaville lots that was two houses connected by a balcony. I can't even tell you the amount of times she got me pregnant against my wishes whilst I went to the bathroom, lmao.

Which is your favorite EA hair color? For colour consistency, probably brown? But there are a lot of brunettes in Brunwick (must be the name!), so I enjoy the recessives popping up in gameplay. :)

Favorite life stage? Ohhh dude, that's so difficult to answer. They all bring different challenges and dynamics to the household! I feel like I've started to appreciate the child lifestage more since Brunwick has grown large enough to have multiple friendship groups. It's fun watching them goof around with each other and be actual kids, instead of sitting indoors skilling. I really need to build a park! :)

But gameplay-wise, a lot! My early years were probably based around creating stories more than actively playing, but when I did I would just emulate perfect families, attempt legacies, and restart BG hoods over and over. x)

Now I'm all about wants-based gameplay; witnessing and interpreting a story, as opposed to creating one from scratch. But I will add drama if I find my interest waning! x)

Who’s your favorite CC creator? Again, super-duper impossible to answer because everyone's CC makes the game fun, but my most recent CC shopping spree was Honeywell and HugeLunatic! :) 🛒

How long have you had Simblr? Technically 2011, officially 2013, but if we're being pedantic, I finally made a dedicated Simblr (this) in 2016. x)

How do you edit your pictures? These days, just sharpen and shrink! CC previews aren't too complicated either- a blurred out screenshot for the BG and a shadow.

What expansion/gamepack is your favorite? Ooh… maybe Nightlife, by a smidgen? I feel like it gave us a lot of new features and items, and the subhood was nice (as a non-builder at the time!).

2024 wrap-up, part 2

this year has been much better than last for reading! I did notice last year as I reviewed my reads that I wasn't reading a huge diversity of authors. so while I never set numbers-based goals for my reading, I did set the goal this year to make sure at least 50% of my reads were books by authors of color

I had SO MANY BOOKS by authors of color on my TBR already and even owned many of them, so I made sure to prioritize those books this year. and it was easy to hit 50% by making sure that any book I read by a white author was followed by an author of color (although I made a spreadsheet in November to make sure I was still on track). I'm a mood reader, but these books cover so many different genres that it was easy to diversify my reading once I prioritized that

another thing I tried this year but was less successful at was to prioritize reading in general by deciding to read one book a weekend

(this probably wouldn't work for a 500+ page book, but I have so little energy for such books anymore even though Lowercase E adored them)

the year started off strong with books finished in a single sitting on a Saturday morning/afternoon. but once April hit, my year got busier and I sort of never recovered

overall, however, I did read more consistently than I did in the last two years. while I don't have numbers for the last two years, so far this year I've read 37 books, which I'm 82% sure beats either 2022 or 2023 (which is nice even if I don't make numbers goals anymore)

The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson

not my usual genre (horror/dark fantasy), but a friend was clearing out her shelves a couple years back and the cover grabbed me. this was my first read of the year and is STILL one of my tops reads. holy shit it was so good. the worldbuilding was really cool, the book had a Gothic feeling that I always love (if I read horror, I usually reach for Gothic before other subgenres), the romance was just SO well done. partway through the book I found myself thinking, "wow, the only thing this book is missing is some queer characters" AND GUESS WHAT HAPPENED THAT VERY CHAPTER. this book was so good that I went online as soon as I finished it to buy Alexis Henderson's next book, House of Hunger.

note for anyone who hasn't read the book: apparently it's the first of at least an intended duology. the second book is postponed indefinitely, but honestly the first book can be read as a standalone. so if you're a "I won't read a series until it's done" person, I urge you to read The Year of the Witching nonetheless

...made myself want to reread this but alas I'm in Georgia visiting the parental units, and the book is back in Ohio

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

all I can say about this book (aside from how masterfully done it is) is that I reached the end, flipped the page, found "acknowledgements" staring up at me, and said OUT LOUD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE POLE STUDIO* "wait what that's it???????" and then YELLED about the book to my instructor and other students

*class had not started yet, I finished the book while waiting bc I'd arrived early

there's apparently both a prequel and a sequel, and I am both looking forward to and scared to read them

actually I read the entire Tita Rosie's Kitchen Mysteries to date, which should tell you how good the first book was! I love a good cozy mystery, and the whole series is great. also: Tita Rosie and Jonathan 5ever oh my god they're so cute together and Tita Rosie deserves the best. if you're the type of mystery reader who likes recipes at the end of your book, this series is for you

I think there are five books so far with a sixth on the way! it's helpful to read them in order since the community in each book does build on the characters introduced in the previous book, but being cozy mysteries the plot doesn't super depend on you having read anything previous

Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q. Sutanto

OBVIOUSLY I've been looking forward to reading this one ever since I learned about it, because it's a little old lady getting into shenanigans. oh my god it exceeded my wildest expectations. I love Vera SO MUCH. I laughed aloud a lot, I cried a lot, and I worried over who the murderer might be because of the multiple POVs and the found family...each member of which had a good reason to want the murder victim dead :,) I'm still devastated (positive)

we're getting a SEQUEL and I cannot overstate my excitement to get a second Vera Wong book

21. Skybound

There's just barely any music for this season due to budget cuts or something of the like, and what music that is there I'm just not super enthused about or I forgot about

20. Crystalized

While there's a good amount of music for this season, I didn't find it super special or appealing, and it was just kind of meh like the season itself

19. Legacy of the Green Ninja

I hate to put this here, but something's gotta go here so it might as well be S2. The music was pretty great and there's a LOT of it, plus it's available to the public on an album, but really the only tracks from this season that stick out to me are Day Jobs and The Final Battle

18. Rebooted

Again, don't dislike the music, but something's gotta take these spots and I can't even recall any pieces from this season except for X-1 Joyride and Built to Protect

17. The Island

The score for this season is miles better than the plot and execution, but there's not a lot of it. There was like, one piece I could find on youtube. It was great though! Really fit the island vibe

16. Fire Chapter

It was pretty hard to decide whether The Island or Fire Chapter went here, but eventually I decided on Fire Chapter just because it had more tracks, plus the ongoing and reused Serpentine theme. None of the tracks really stood out to me, but I loved that they reused the Serpentine theme from the first few seasons for Aspheera and her minions

15. Seabound

This one is here for a combination of reasons from The Island and Fire Chapter. It has a lot of music, plus it fits the ocean theme super well. None of the tracks stood out to me except for the one reused one from Wu's Teas when they're all walking out in their diving gear though, so that's why it's this low

14. Hunted

I absolutely love the plot of this season and the hunter's theme, but the only thing that really stood out to me as 'Wow, this is amazing was Dragon Hunt'. It's also super all over because of the whole realms thing, which obviously doesn't make for a very consistent soundtrack. The Resistance Never Quits is a great track, too

13. March of the Oni

Now we start moving into the great seasons. 13th place might seem low, but considering how flipping amazing the other soundtracks are I think this is well-placed. It's diverse, but all fits together and the two moods are nicely separated, unlike whatever was happening in Hunted. I really like the nice, flowy, and clean tracks when we're around the ninja, and the choppy, dissonant music with the whispers and uncommon time signatures for the Oni never fails to give me good chills

12. Hands of Time

I'm gonna be honest with you and say that I was going to put this one a LOT lower, but then I decided to give it a relisten, and DANG. I can't believe I forgot how much of a BANGER this soundtrack is! Especially the ongoing theme. I think I forgot just because the plot of the season is so forgettable, but the music definitely goes hard

11. Rise of the Snakes

I think this is probably the most expected ranking on this list. The soundtrack is great, but it's not amazing. It's really hit-and-miss, honestly. You have bangers like Falcon Chase, Taking the Bait, Weapons Take Flight, and Race to Ouroboros, but the rest of it is kind of bland and forgettable in my opinion

10. The Lego Ninjago Movie

It seems like no one talks about the score for TLNM when we should absolutely be talking about it! It's great! You should really go listen to it. The percussive flute tracks by Greg Pattillo are especially good. Pieces like Sibling Rivalry, The Rise of Kitty Kitty, and Wise Master Wu are also super great!

9. Sons of Garmadon

I honestly can't remember why I put this so high, but I trust more-awake-Fiddler's judgment. It's got a great score, it's just that not a lot of it is super memorable for me. The very beginning of the season (the first bit of Sons of Garmadon Heist) gets stuck in my head all the time though

8. Pilots

Even though there are only 3-4 tracks in both episodes (depending on whether or not you count the Overture), all of them are amazing. Attack of the Skeleton Army, Discovering Spinjitzu / Dragon Ride, and especially Training Course all go hard, and I love that the very first taste of Ninjago we ever got had such great music. Like, be honest. Do you think that Ninjago would've taken off if it had some crap MIDI, mass-produced music in the background? I personally don't think so. We owe a lot to Vincent & Kramer for the Ninjago we know today

7. Day of the Departed

Considering that this special has like, only one track, this is pretty fuckin' high for just one piece of music among whole seasons worth of music. I cry pretty much every time I hear Maybe I'm Departed, and it hits so much harder after Kirby Morrow's passing. Also, little self-promo here, if you haven't listened to my version of Maybe I'm Departed yet, what are you doing?

6. Prime Empire

Prime Empire's music is just fucking sick. It goes so hard and perfectly fits with the cyberpunk/video game vibes of the season. It's so diverse, too, with tracks from Scott's Stowaway Part 2, to Stayin' Aflight, to Fourth Mile Marker, to the Noir Whip. I'd say one of my favorite parts in the entire thing is when a West Side Story reference appears in the soundtrack of Confidential when two or three of the goons are snapping like the Jets lol. My favorite track in Prime Empire would have to be Fourth Mile Marker, just because it's so beautiful, and the melody also reminds me a lot of the theme from Schindler's List, which is just a beautiful theme

5. Dragons Rising

DR is all the way up here despite being so new because the music is already so iconic in my eyes. I haven't even really paid attention to the 'remixes' of old pieces yet, I'm just in love with the original music. It's so unique, and you really can't mistake it for any other season. I especially love the credits from The Merge Part 1, and Tradition of the Ninja

4. Master of the Mountain

I originally had this at #3, but I made a last-minute decision to bump it down one. Not because of anything about it though. It's fuckin' epic. I love the ongoing theme, and in the suite, I absolutely love at the very beginning the few notes played by handbells. Also in the suite, from about 5:49 to the end is the most epic, magical, grandiose thing I've ever heard in my life and you need to go listen to it right this second. Exit tumblr, listen to it, then come back for the top 3. I'll be here when you get back. And one more thing I love about the score is that it's constantly in different and weird times, and cuts out beats when you're least expecting it. Also, I know I said I wouldn't bring Whips into this, but I absolutely love that the beginning is in 6/8. First whip not in 4/4 let's gooooooooo

3. Ice Chapter

Honestly, I was super torn about whether I should put this one at #4 or #3, but in the end, I chose this spot for a number of reasons. The whole thing just gives off winter vibes, I absolutely love the folk aspect of it for the Formlings theme, the Ice Emperor theme is so freaking dark and scary, and there are so many bangers! Namely Akita Finds Her Animal Form and Twice As Stubborn

2. Possession

If you know me, this might come as a surprise seeing as how much I love this season and its music, but it's actually second place for me. It is home to my favorite piece from Ninjago ever, though, which is Ghost Story. I've probably made dozens of posts about the geniusness of Morro's theme and music when he's around and talked about, so I won't go into great detail about that. Just know that the well-known bit features the tritone (often called the devil's interval) played on a fiddle and/or viola (the fiddle was considered the devil's instrument back in ye olden days). Anyway, I highly recommend that you go listen to Ghost Story because it's just a wonderful piece that beautifully tells Morro's story through music

1. Tournament of Elements

I always go back and forth on whether ToE or Possession is my favorite season, but there was no doubt in my mind that ToE is my favorite from a musical standpoint. It's so diverse, yet fits together so nicely. The music features a lot of traditional drums and chanting, really fitting the whole island/fight club/cult theme. The season also has a bunch of bangers, spanning from Gauntlet of Humility, to Thinking About Yourself, Rooftop Ruffhouse, And That's The Kink, I Am the Titanium Ninja, Lloyd's Flashbacks, and who could forget Sneaking Around, the credits music for a bunch of episodes in a lot of other seasons

Slow Damage in Hunger Games simulator

This was 100% a product of boredom.

Honestly I know that I picked a couple of characters that are dead in-game, but I don't care because I kind of wanted to add them to the mix for the sake of diversity.

Teams were also not very well-thought out, but it should serve its purpose too

So here goes how this sim turned out!

First off: good on Towa trying to start eating for once, but didn't need to break Mayu's nose for that.

Lisa steals from a literal child, Kotarou is done with Mayu's weeb ass and ditches him and Towa keeps getting food. And Fujieda blows Toono's ass for good measure!

Honami delivers sweet payback to Mizuno, good for her! Meanwhile Fujieda is having a conscience crisis after killing a guy. Mayu forgives Towa for breaking his nose, and now I'm having second thoughts about letting Mei into the Hunger Games.

How is Rei discovering all these caves? Taeko turns savage and kills a poor weeb... and Ikuina spies a mysterious reunion between Maya and Taku... 🤔 And Junko consistently proves that knives aren't acceptable for brawling.

RIP Golden Retriever boy (sorry for misgendering you) & RIP Milquetoast Gay Nurse. Sakaki is acting sus with Rei. Fujieda and Towa have a moment while Taku is on the background tending himself, probably.

Sorry, but Madarame just chilling and picking flowers is so funny.

Sponsors decided the girls weren't killing enough people, so free hatchets! And RIP Eiji & Rei, Madarame is just getting started. Fujieda continues to have a mental breakdown and everyone except Towa sucks at making fires, apparently.

RIP Junko, you served looks anywhere you were. Also RIP Taku, Arata, Kotarou and the Roost Owner. Except Sakaki, he can eat shit. Madarame on a murder rampage while his ex is picking up flowers is such a mood.

Taeko decides that murder is kinda hot actually and gets a piece of that fat ass. On the side, Ikuina and Towa are having a normal one, while Maya and Lisa sustain a one-night toxic yuri session.

Also, I just feel happy that Fujieda and Mei are finally reunited 🥲

Mayu goes wild, he decides to avenge his fallen friends! RIP Madarame, you smug asshole. Also RIP Lisa.

RIP Ikuina, Honami & Mayu, you were too good for this game. As for Maya:

Taeko is now having a bit of inner-searching with someone from the past. And Fujieda is now being an ass, but that's too in-character, as far as I'm concerned.

This is consistently the most Towa has gone through just to eat.

Aaaand, there it is. That's a Bad End. RIP Towa, wish you could've talked things over. And RIP Taeko, you fought good.

Which leaves us with only Fujieda and Mei,

Two siblings who have been separated years ago, finally reunited under tragic and precarious circumstances. It's a bittersweet sort of meeting, they have their own lives to fight for, they barely have any time to even talk to each other... but now that every other contestant is gone... they can finally let their guard down.

Mei is so happy to see him alive, even if his hands are stained with blood, even with the horrors they had to live through. Fujieda is so happy, finally having the chance to hold her, to talk to her... it was what he's been hoping for years.

So they do what they've been wanting to. They talk, they cry, they laugh together, they hold each other until the sun sets, until they start to get hungry. There's still supplies left, they can cook something for dinner, so Fujieda decides to cook, because he's the big brother and he's supposed to take care of his little sister.

Mei is thrilled, having missed the tenderness of her brother and she looks forward for the meal they'll share...

... except, she forgets one small single detail:

Her brother can't cook for shit.

And so, Fujieda wins the Hunger Games,

but at what cost?

- What inspired you to create the album "Highschool Sweethearts," and how does it reflect your personal journey or experiences?

My album Highschool Sweethearts is inspired by my long-distance relationship that I have with my girlfriend of 7 years now that started from us being classmates in high school, which where the album name comes from.

You seamlessly blend R&B, Pop, and modern hip-hop in "Highschool Sweethearts." Can you elaborate on how you approached combining these genres and what you hoped to achieve with this fusion?

The blends of the genres came about from my music tastes and preferences. After listening to my favorite artists like Drake, Rex Orange County, and Joji, I took some of their techniques and songwriting processes and added touches to reflect my personality and authenticity, that is exclusive to the music that I make. Kind of like a "standing on the shoulders of giants" sort of thing haha.

Do you have a favorite song on the album? If so, which one is that and why?

It depends on my mood, but my personal favorite right now would be Streets. There's been a lot of songs lately that feature infidelity, casual relationships and hookup culture and this is my attempt to show listeners that being in a healthy, loving relationship is cool too haha.

Can you discuss how you developed your artistic style over time and how it's reflected in the tracks on "Highschool Sweethearts” ?

My artistic style came from the inspirations that the music that I listen to give me. It could come from the lyrics, the instrumental, and even the melodies of how the lyrics were sung. Each track on the album came from different inspirations, hence the different genres in the album.

- With the diverse styles explored in "Highschool Sweethearts," how do you envision your music evolving in the future? 

I hope that I get to condense the diverse styles in my album into a concrete music style that I could say proudly that is my own and authentic. I feel like I'm one step closing in achieving that but there's still ways to go but I am definitely enjoying the process.

- Are there any particular directions or themes you're eager to explore in your upcoming projects?

I'm planning to explore themes in my future songs that are more introspective and reflective in my life experiences, like Mac Miller, Kota the Friend, or Waiian.

Do you have any plans to tour or perform live?

Definitely! I will be performing in open mics and start planning a show to showcase my music sometime next year.

Ok so I have no idea if "boyfriend" is like a common term used in Teyvat, I see no reason why it wouldn't be, but I can't think of a specific instance in which I have read it, so for the sake of making this funnier, I'm going to pretend like it isn't

The mood isn't missing. It's tragic that the material realities of Africa did not select for long term planning skills. The reason you don't hear me talking about it is that it would reveal my thoughts on race, which are not acceptable in polite society.

I mean, are you really that confident they didn't? A priori this seems both unlikely and, if it was true, difficult to ascertain with confidence. Unlikely because Africa is a big place with many different sets of material conditions, the ecosystems there don't seem particularly unusual vis-à-vis those in the rest of the world so I'm not sure why selective pressure would be so different, and it's also IIRC the most genetically diverse region in the world (consistent with a human origin in Africa). These facts collectively make a claim like "the material realities of Africa selected for X" seem dubious. Difficult to ascertain with confidence because there are a whole bunch of confounding factors (wealth disparities, cultural differences, nutritional differences and so on) that seem rather hard to control for even in the best circumstances. I guess the ideal would be trans-racial adoption studies in wealthy countries or some such; I know some of those have been done but I haven't looked into them. Even those don't control for the effects of social bias, etc., since others' expectations of us potentially have a fairly large effect on what sort of person we become. Determining causality in whatever you're measuring among all these confounding factors seems... hard.

So, I suppose my stance on this is simply that I haven't looked deeply at the evidence, but my prior would be that it is not true.

Anyways since this has gotten some traction, I'll say for current/future clarities sake- I have nothing against Brennan Lee Mulligan. I support that he's the reason we have D20 today. That's all well and good. I truly have no ill will against the guy honestly and truly. He has and does a good job with diversity and representation in his work, his messages I'll often agree with (fuck capitalism) and of course the storytelling skills are fantastic.

What I take issue with is rooted in the fact that it is always White Men, who get the spotlight the most. Hence- White Man Obsession. Cause it's almost always them, and I think it'd be benefited if they weren't the only ones in the spotlight. -So this isn't even entirely D20/Dropout exclusive, if the spotlight could be passed to others and then they have space held for them by the audience as well? We'd be golden.

I can take this deeper, but this is where I'll leave it for now.

Hmm, anyways I'd love actually if White Man Obsession would pause for a bit for other things of equal if not more quality and worth.
